Scientists say first half of 2012 warmest on record

WASHINGTON – It won’t be a news flash for the 250 million sweltering Americans east of the Rockies, but the first half of the year has been the USA’s warmest on record, federal climate scientists announced Monday.
Twenty-eight states and more than 100 cities have posted their warmest first six months on record, based on national weather data that go back to 1895, according to the report from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center.
For instance, Chicago is almost 7 degrees warmer than average this year; the Windy City had eight 80-degree days in March and five days in the 90s in May.
New York City, where temperatures are about 4 degrees above average, is seeing its warmest year since records began there a few years after the Civil War ended.
The national temperature this year was 52.9 degrees, which is 4.5 degrees above average and 1.2 degrees above the next-warmest year, which was 2006, the climate report notes.
From January to June, a whopping 22,356 daily record high temperatures have been set across the USA, according to Weather Channel meteorologist Guy Walton. This compares with 2,448 daily record lows during that time, he reports.

Continues here.

OMG – We’re heading to Atlanta tonight. Hot and Humid. Then heading to NY twice in August. Not looking forward to it. Poor Fred would be a hot dog. At least we are skipping Vegas in August..where it is 111 degrees now at 5 pm !! Keep cool everyone !

No matter how hot it gets, right-wingnuts are going to deny that the heating of the atmosphere is due to the changing carbon dioxide level from fossil fuel combustion. I think global warming denial epitomizes the dimwit mentality of conservatives. Even if they can not longer deny that it is happening, they are going to claim, to the death, that it is “natural”.

Have I mentioned that I set up a solar energy lab in my back yard that I run out of my kitchen? Yes, and it is going to cost the government alot less than Solyndra did. So far, I have gotten in a hassle with the CEO from Sunpower ($1.2 Billion in government loans) over the lack of availability of their premium solar panels and they guys over at Suniva, who claim to sell high efficiency solar sells, just not to me. Why? They say it is because they only sell massive amounts of them, or none at all. I do not know how much in government loans Suniva has, but their they are well staffed, just not selling. But there are these guys in Taiwan who are willing to cut me a good deal.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? IT IS TOO DAMN HOT!

Tree ring study proves that the climate was warmer during Roman times.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2171973/Tree-ring-study-proves-climate-WARMER-Roman-Medieval-times-modern-industrial-age.html

It’s funny that the result of this study was published today when we are suffering through a heat wave and the climate has become the topic of discussion on so many blogs, but I suppose it is something to ponder.

Dell #5,

I take it you are taking the “it’s natural” position. The type of data in the article you are referring to is all very interesting. It is not surprising that there have been variations in the atmospheric temperatures over the millennium. However, global warming is the specific trend since the industrial age of the last hundred years or so since hydrocarbon combustion has been used to provide energy. I’m sure there are other things that cause climate change, but that is just a smoke screen. It by no means invalidates the current global warming concerns.

HIGH-POWERED LESBIANS CREATE A PAC OF THEIR OWN
By LISA LEFF
— Jul. 11 12:01 AM EDT

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A group of high-powered lesbians is banding together to form a first-of-its-kind political action committee.

L-PAC, as the independent expenditure super PAC has been christened, is being launched Wednesday with the goal of championing causes and candidates that appeal to lesbian voters.

The group’s goal for the 2012 election cycle is a modest $1 million. Its beneficiaries haven’t been finalized, although likely recipients could be Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who hopes to become the first openly lesbian member of the U.S. Senate, and campaigns working to defeat state bans on same-sex marriage.

Among those spearheading the effort are Chicago Cubs co-owner Laura Ricketts and Sarah Schmidt, a scion of the family behind Midwest petroleum distributor U.S. Venture. Jane Lynch and Billie Jean King also have pledged support.

I am not knowledgeable enough in this subject to make my own determination, which is why I rely on studies done by others to understand what is happening to our environment.

I do certainly believe that some of the climate change is due to natural reasons. After all, the planet has been getting warmer since the Ice Age. Not a lot of thinking is required to figure that out. It is also true that humans have brought all types of filth to the atmosphere along with their inventions of the last 100 years or so. I am not sure if this pollution is enough to cause the global warming we are speaking about here.

For someone trying to learn more about this issue, it is very frustrating to come upon so many false reports. For instance, we now know that the biggest problem for Polar Bears is overpopulation. They are not dying out from global warming as had been suggested. I’m afraid that some animal rights groups are still pushing that false theory in order to bring in funds.

Also this 2012 report shows that the glaciers haven’t melted at all. Just a decade ago we were all led to believe that both coasts would be underwater by now. At least I heard that.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/feb/08/glaciers-mountains

So, when certain groups publish lies and exaggerations, they are not helping their cause. They are only making things more confusing. That’s why I do read and will continue to read the latest studies about climate change. I thought the tree ring study was quite interesting. I’m glad that you read it.

You bring up another point which I find maddening.

My brother is a fervent believer in man made global warming and when I remind him that certain areas have become cooler – including the last few winters in NY – he assures me that this is because of global warming.

So if it gets warmer it’s global warming and if it gets cooler it is also global warming. I guess if it remains the same it too is a sign of global warming. He tells me that it is hard for him to explain it to me because I’ve never studied science. I don’t discuss it with him any more. I’ve admitted my lack of knowledge in the subject, but I don’t like being treated as if I am completely stupid!

My brother, as well as other environmental activists, have a way of looking down on those they don’t consider their intellectual equals.

12

Headclunker 07.12.12 at 6:39 pm

Delle,

There is alot of hype around about global warming and if you are not scientifically inclined, you can expect to be confused. The fundamental mechanism of global warming from increased levels of Carbon Dioxide from hydrocarbon combustion is very sound and basic. The increase of these levels has been measured directly for the last 50 years or so and is on the rise.

Trends in temperature and carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere over the millennium is subject to controversy and discussion and can be caused by any number of natural occurrences. I have a good scientific background and cannot sort through all the hype to know how significant the problem is, but I can tell you with a high level of confidence, it is occurring.

Time will tell. I am going solar.

The Obama campaign is so so so desperate that they are suggesting Mitt Romney had committed a felony in saying that he had nothing to do with his previous company Bain after 1999. CNN interviewed John King and David Gergen both CNN Democrat political analysts and both said that they have confirmed through various independant and Democratic sources that it is correct that Romney did not have anything to do with Bain – unlike what the Obama folks keeps throwing it out there.

It seems to me that the Obama team is clutching at straws and it looks terribly bad on them-but it should surprise no one because team Obama has always run on lies and deceit. David Gergen (again a staunch Democrat CNN analyst)asks Anderson Cooper : “you have to ask youself, is this what the campaign want to run on”? Basically asking if team Obama wants to run on lying and public deception ?
REad an extract below:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/12/politics/john-king-bain/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Washington (CNN) — So just why is 1999 suddenly such a flashpoint in Campaign 2012?
Team Obama says 1999 is the birth year of “The Big Bain Lie” and goes on to suggest that Mitt Romney might have committed a felony.
That provoked a rare statement from Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades, who called on President Barack Obama to apologize for “the out of control behavior of his staff, which demeans the office that he holds.”
Pointed rhetoric aside, just what is the 1999 debate about and why is it potentially significant in the Obama versus Romney race?
At issue is whether Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, is telling the truth when he says he had no role in investment and operations decisions at Bain Capital once he left in February 1999 to take over the Salt Lake City Olympic Games.
Talking Points Memo this week questioned Romney’s claim by citing Securities and Exchange Commission filings listing Romney as Bain’s top officer after 1999. The Boston Globe on Thursday carried a similar account — and that was seized upon by Team Obama.
“Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony, or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people to avoid responsibility for some of the consequences of his investments,” Stephanie Cutter, deputy Obama campaign manager, said on a campaign conference call.
Biden hits Romney on outsourcing record MYB: Romney’s Bain record under fire Adviser defends attacks against Romney Vanity Fair: Romney’s $$$ in ‘gray area’
Remember that last part of Cutter’s statement — about responsibility for “his” investments.
But first, is there anything other than the SEC filings to suggest a hands-on Romney role at Bain post-February 1999?
No is the word from four sources who communicated with CNN on Thursday — all of whom have firsthand knowledge of Bain’s operations at the time in question. Three of the four are Democrats, and two of the four are active Obama supporters in Campaign 2012.
All four told me Romney is telling the truth.
Only one, Bain Managing Director Steve Pagliuca, would talk on the record. The others spoke only on condition of anonymity, citing either Bain’s low-key culture or the desire not to anger friends in the Obama campaign.
Pagliuca, a Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for Senate in 2010, told CNN: “Mitt Romney left Bain Capital in February 1999 to run the Olympics and has had absolutely no involvement with the management or investment activities of the firm or with any of its portfolio companies since the day of his departure.”
In explaining the SEC documents filed in 2000 and 2001, Pagliuca said, “Due to the sudden nature of Mr. Romney’s departure, he remained the sole stockholder for a time while formal ownership was being documented and transferred to the group of partners who took over management of the firm in 1999. Accordingly, Mr. Romney was reported in various capacities on SEC filings during this period.”
Another Bain Democrat who did not want to be identified by name said Romney had no role after taking the Olympics post
“Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. He was just gone. And it happened very suddenly. … After that, he was not on calls or writing memos. He was gone.”
To be clear, all four of the sources voiced professional loyalty and personal respect for Romney. And all four have a vested interest in defending the work of Bain. But they were consistent in describing Romney’s departure as abrupt and in saying they could not recall him around the office in the months that followed.
Two highly reputable arbiters of political debate — The Washington Post’s fact-checking arm and FactCheck.org — also on Thursday stood by their earlier findings that Romney stepped away from any active role at Bain when he accepted the Olympics post. And Fortune reported that it obtained private Bain documents that support the Romney account.
But the Obama campaign and its liberal allies continue to hang their claim on the SEC filings.

Well, the Obama propeganda machine is full cranked up after Romney. The Bain Capital stuff from 1999 to 2003 is a little fuzzy, but if 10 year old stuff is all BO has, he is past desperate. I think Romney has been sparring and is not going to come out full force until September.

The current unemployment and poverty stats on women does it for me. It is the Obama Administration that has been carrying out a war on women and the most obscene part is how he has been getting them to participate in their own demise. Same for the AA community.

Romney needs to get some specific legislation on healthcare out there and make it plain that being pro-life is not going to translate to making laws about women’s bodies, particularly the reproductive parts that do not belong to other people. Otherwise, I am voting NOT.

A deadline for response from BO to an FEC Request for Additional Information (http://query.nictusa.com/pdf/794/12330007794/12330007794.pdf#navpanes=0 ) has passed and nothing has showed up at the FEC website yet. Gee, I hope they have not been too busy worrying about what happened at Bain Capital in 1999 to get their reply in on time.

Headcluker: On the contrary. Today’s CNN ticker has the Obama team telling Mitt Romney to “stop whining” about their felony claim. I can’t believe Obama’s team is willing to stoop so low as to suggest a felony charge on a fellow candidate. It is quite disgusting. As a pre-Obama Democrat, I am ashamed that they don’t believe in productive debate and challenging the issues but continuing with the false charges when it was already proven to be un-true by independent fact checkers.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/07/18/Top-Ten-Things-Obama-Has-Not-Released?

As the Obama campaign and the media continue to press Mitt Romney to release more of his tax returns, and to suggest–without a shred of evidence–that he is a “felon,” it is worth noting how much critical information Barack Obama has withheld from view–both as a candidate in 2008, and during his term in office. Here is a Breitbart News top ten list of things that Obama has refused to release (a complete list would fill volumes):

10. State senate papers. In the 2008 primary, Obama criticized Hillary Clinton for not releasing papers from her eight years time as First Lady–but failed to produce any papers from his eight years in Springfield. “They could have been thrown out,” he said.

9. Academic transcripts. His supposed academic brilliance was a major selling point, but Obama (by his own admission) was a mediocre student. His GPA at Occidental was a B-plus at best, and his entering class at Columbia was weak. Can he prove his merit?

8. Book proposal. Obama’s literary agent claimed he was “born in Kenya”–for sixteen years. His original book proposal exists–biographer David Maraniss refers to it–and seems to have embellished other key details of his life. Yet it has never been released.

7. Medical records. In 2000, and again (briefly) in 2008, GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain released thousands of pages of his medical records. Obama, who had abused drugs and continued smoking, merely provided a one-page doctor’s note.

6. Small-dollar donors. In 2008, the McCain campaign released the names of donors who had contributed less than $200, though it was not required to do so. But the Obama campaign refused, amidst accusations it had accepted illegal foreign contributions.

5. The Khalidi tape. In 2003, Obama attended a party for his good friend, the radical Palestinian academic Rashid Khalidi. The event featured incendiary anti-Israel rhetoric. The LA Times broke the story, but has refused to release the tape–and so has Obama.

4. The real White House guest list. Touting its transparency, the Obama White House released its guest logs–but kept many visits secret, and moved meetings with lobbyists off-site. It also refused to confirm the identities of visitors like Bertha Lewis of ACORN.

3. Countless FOIA requests. The Obama administration has been described as “the worst” ever in complying with Freedom of Information Act requests for documents. It has also punished whistleblowers like David Walpin, who exposed cronyism in Americorps.

2. Health reform negotiations. Candidate Obama promised that health care reform negotiations would be televised on C-SPAN. Instead, there were back-room deals woth millions with lobbyists and legislators–the details of which are only beginning to emerge.

1. Fast and Furious documents. After months of stonewalling Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder asked President Obama to use executive privilege to conceal thousands of documents related to the deadly scandal–and Obama did just that.

In addition to the above, Obama and his campaign have lied about many facts about his past–his membership in the New Party; his extensive connections with ACORN; and his continued relationship with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, among other examples. Obama’s own memoir is filled with fabrications. And now he is lying about his opponent’s honorable record in business. He–and the media–have no shame.

34

DancesWithPumas 07.18.12 at 9:24 am

8. Book proposal. Obama’s literary agent claimed he was “born in Kenya”–for sixteen years. His original book proposal exists–biographer David Maraniss refers to it–and seems to have embellished other key details of his life. Yet it has never been released.
——————————–
It may have also been O’s literary agent, but the author bios were requested of, written and supplied by the respective books authors. Obama himself wrote that he was born in Kenya for his author bio blurb.

7: The medical “record(s) Obama supplied was indeed a one page, undated, note from a doctor. Basically it said Obama is in good medical condition.

I recall a listening to a program on NPR that aired during the medical record hoo-ha… one of the NPR commentators said, ‘… we’ve seen obama working out on a treadmill, what more do we need?’

When I heard that, my jaw almost hit the steering wheel!
Haven’t listened to NPR since.

CBS/NYT: Mitt Romney Has A Razor-Thin Lead Over Obama
Brett LoGiurato | Jul. 18, 2012

Mitt Romney leads President Barack Obama, 47 percent to 46 percent, in a new CBS/New York Times poll released Wednesday night. The race has actually tightened from May, when Romney led 46 to 43 percent. Both polls sampled registered voters.
The key: Romney has a big edge on handling the economy and jobs — he leads there 49 percent to 41 percent.

I differ in that I prefer my news to be unvarnished, uncensored, and unbiased.

What happened in Israel is a reality. It happened to a VIP, and it should get coverage, the same way the tomato throwing incident was covered, at the very least.

Do we get news only when something negative happens in Egypt and not when it happens in (holier than thou) Israel? Look at your comment, you even slipped and said “Egypt” instead of “Israel”.

I still do not see a response from the Grafter in Chief, to the latest Request for Additional Information from the FEC:
http://query.nictusa.com/pdf/794/12330007794/12330007794.pdf#navpanes=0

I think I am going to call Rebecca Hough tomorrow and ask what’s happening. The next campaign monthly reports come out on the 20th.

DWP – If you were referencing my post… It was in Egypt that Hillary was tomatoed and called Monica. I just thought she deserved more dignity than that and if it was kept low key, so much the better.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/she-the-people/post/hillary-clinton-in-egypt-pelted-with-tomatoes-and-taunts-of-monica/2012/07/16/gJQA8E7HpW_blog.html

I didn’t know that she was shot on in Israel…of course this is news and I wish it wasn’t her… if you catch my drift. Quite different from tomatoes and name calling.

Thought I’d clarify that.

Thank you Headclunker for your continued work with the Fec.

Oh, okay. I thought it was odd / unusual for you to take the stance you took with regard to shot fired at Hillary! Good to know you were addressing the tomatoe/ shoe throwing incident and not the other.

I appreciate the clarification. thanks.

Ditto what Stoney said.

DWP – This morning found out that my internet cable was dragged down by the garbage trucks so had to resort to my lap top with ATT card (which was useless in the hotel I was in) Do you still like Verizon?

freddiebrown 07.20.12 at 12:13 am

I wonder if Bachmann is crazy for thinking so….

So the news is that Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann thinks that “long-time aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin, has three family members connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, and is at risk of being influenced by her family members. The members of Congress want to know how she holds a high level security clearance.”

In her letter, Bachmann noted that Abedin’s late father, mother and brother are “connected to Muslim Brotherhood operatives and/or organizations” and that Abedin “by extension may be working on the organization’s behalf.”
The letter cites a 2002 article in the Law Review at Brigham Young University that explains Abedin’s late father, Professor Syed Abedin, founded the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs in Saudi Arabia, which was supported by another organization with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

If you remember, Huma is the wife of the ex New York Congressman Anthony Weiner(sex scandal weiner).

A warning about government bulbs. A new study from Stony Brook claims that they are bad for your skin.

I wish they would bring the Edisons back. I know they make them now in China, but they are not easy to find in the stores.

Thankfully, throughout the last several months I’ve been buying them whenever I see them and by now I have a pretty good supply stored away in my pantry.

Delle – Who knows right? 10 years from now, they may say it causes cancer or something. I might start keeping an eye out for the tried and trusted ones. I don’t mind paying a few bucks more for peace of mind.

Yes, Michelle Bachmann is insane. Not violent but insane.

My mailman’s second cousin married a pilot whose sister-on-law taught a college course in which one of the students was related through marriage twice removed to a distand friend of Osama bin Laden, therefore my mailman may be guilty by association to the 9/11 “terrist” attacks. /snark

I freaking hate men who think women are clueless and talk down to them just because they are “expert” brokers or CPA’s . I’m thinking of changing my broker who kept a large chunk of my investment earning 0 when he could have done 4% in a short term no penalty bond. I just sent him an email asking why my money was “in limbo” and he just glossed over it. My CPA recommended him and would not hear of me changing to someone else. I sense a “i scratch your back and you scratch my nuts” situation here.

60

HP Boston 07.20.12 at 3:50 pm

Freddie go behind one’s back and kick the other in his nuts!!!

61

DancesWithPumas 07.20.12 at 5:56 pm

Freddie
Take half of your investments / funds and invesr with another broker. At the end of a certain period see which one of your brokers outperforms the other, then switch the other half to the winningest broker.
How much of his own money does your CPA have invested with said broker? Talk is cheap.

The many revisions of Barack Obama continue as two revised FEC reports showed up on the website this morning and the latest showed up this evening. BO is not looking so good.

Total monthly $45,910,689.72 for June
Itemized $16,106,853.08
Unitemized $11,993,038.28
Transfers $17,200,000.00

I will do a more complete update later.

63

freddiebrown 07.20.12 at 7:18 pm

I found out that there is 52K in his company (Wells Fargo)un-invested – as in just languishing somewhere. Just waiting for things to “turn around”. I asked if that is earning anything (trick question)besides ZERO (like Obama) and isn’t there anything he can park it that earns anything. There is one for 4% . Well, why the hell not put it in there rather than where ever it was…For all I know, they are using my money to play around. Fucktards

64

DancesWithPumas 07.21.12 at 9:26 am

Freddie
You could be earning on that money in even the suckiest of investment vehicles. A 1% return on a regilar savings is better than ZERO return.

65

HP Boston 07.21.12 at 10:36 am

Freddie
There are jumbo savings at banks, get more than 1%.
Remember NO ONE cares more about your money than YOU!
Trust someone if you are sure they are honorable but they are few and far between. I take care of my own money and as a retired person I stay away from Wall Street. I use a local bank and 2 credit unions and government I bonds. CD’s when I can get more than 2%.
Oh and your broker may feel the 4% return may be to risky, ask him. You may want to seek out a woman to do your investing, I had a great one at Charles Schwab. Miss her!

freddiebrown 07.21.12 at 9:17 pm

Thanks all who commented. I have to contribute yearly a certain amount towards pension (tax deferred) but it has to be managed by an outside broker. At least that is what I was given to understand. Yes, I tend to agree that one has to watch money handlers as not all are honorable. I don’t like doing it as I am not as knowledgeable nor have the time. I do like the idea of a woman broker-I might look around.

Obama Unitemized Scorecard at http://www.mur6142 has been updated with the latest numbers. The line in yellow compares it to the 2008 campaign. It appears that the 2012 campaign to date has even more funny money than the 2008 campaign, even though it appears to be down this month. OFA is not bringing in so much money but it is being transferred in from the Obama Victory Fund 2012, that is the fund shared with the DNC.

Headclunker,
Thank you so much for the updates and the incredible work you’ve done!!

72

Headclunker 07.22.12 at 9:29 am

Thanks DWP. I am inspired by the team of PUMA (special kudos to Theamericanway) and how they put this project together in the first place. It was a valuable learning experience for me. I want to see it through.

And more than that, I believe it was the PUMA effort that made this fraudulent anti-democratic usurper bring in a whole lot of that funny money in the first place.

I made a small correction on the table at MUR6142 with the SA17 and SA18 that were switched on the 2008 election. It make the money path a little clearer. The OVF does not have excessive amount of unitemized money. That is mostly going through Obama for America.

I ventured into Bobot land over at Huffy Post and posted the link to BO’s FEC report and the MUR. Alot of the Bobots replied that I was a liar and a right-wing nut so I had to explain that the main site for the link was the United States Federal Election Commission and post that, too.

It is hard to believe IN-YOUR-FACE 40% mystery funds during a presidential election. If anyone wants that link, here it is:

Headclunker –
It is great work you’ve done. So tedious but necessary.
I hope we can all cut and paste to post it wherever we can get eyeballs to read them.

If you have your posting on HuffPo, pls post it here. I would copy and paste it on any/all of the CNN.com tickers.. It would make their heads spin because the Koolaid crowd are out in droves defending their Messiah.

The Birth Certificate movement is off track. The “natural born” citizen clause would be the way to go since, even though / if obama was born in the US, candidates for the Presidency are held to a higher standard of “natural born citizen”, to include both parents being citizens of the US. Obama’s sperm donor was not a citizen.

The standard was set higher because the founders feared a candidate whose one parent was a US citizen, while the other a British citizen, would be raised with mixed loyalties. Therefore any otherwise viable candidate for the Presidency was required to be born of two US citizen parents.

77

freddiebrown 07.23.12 at 12:25 pm

DWP – Just wondering the reason of your above post. Was it something you read that prompted that ? Many people now won’t touch that topic now, perhaps generally called “birthers”.

But you have a point.
