Dirty Words on Clean Skin: The Real War on Women
Posted on March 27, 2012 by Anita Finlay (“Ani”)

In 2008, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama waged an epic battle for the presidential nomination that captured the imagination and hopes of millions, but the joy of watching a qualified woman vie for the presidency was marred by newsmen and pundits calling Hillary Clinton a hellish housewife, Nurse Ratched, she-devil and bitch. What I witnessed made the bile rise in my throat from such a deep place, I had to get off the sidelines and take action. I transformed from actor and fearful news junkie to determined campaign grunt and citizen journalist.

DIRTY WORDS ON CLEAN SKIN is my shocking exposé about the real war on women…who’s buying, who’s selling, and why they get away with it.

That war is waged daily by mainstream media, party backstabbers, opposing politicians, advertisers and lowbrow comedians on high powered television shows – all of whom miss no opportunity to degrade and marginalize; reducing women to body parts, wardrobe choices and vocal tics.

The quality and preparedness of Hillary Clinton was continually obscured by the bread and circuses of distraction and character assassination. To a greater or lesser degree, these are tactics with which all females running for office have become acquainted. We say the sky’s the limit for women in this country, but the reality was quite different when we were presented with a test case.

For sixteen years, polls have named Hillary Clinton America’s most admired woman, yet when it counted, she was depicted as a vile harpy standing in the way of history. From The New York Times to the `, she is being encouraged to once again stand for the Presidency, yet any prescription offered to a woman attempting to break the “highest, hardest glass ceiling” will be worthless without an honest discussion of those responsible and their methods.

That discussion has yet to take place…
In her recent WaPo article, Twenty Years On, ‘Year of the Woman’ Fades, Karen Tumulty offers many reasons why women have not attained anything approaching parity in political representation, after female membership in the House and Senate doubled in 1992:

“…They made their presence felt beyond Capitol Hill, with the passage of legislation that made the workplace more family-friendly, that directed more medical research to women’s health issues and that made the criminal justice system more responsive to domestic violence.”

Women now represent 16.8% of Congress. We have now hit a plateau, Tumulty says. Another way of putting it is stagnation. The treatment received by Hillary Clinton, who won more votes than any candidate in Primary history, and Sarah Palin, only the second woman to get on a presidential ticket, served as horrifying cautionary tales rather than encouragement. Why would more qualified women run for higher office when a misogynist gauntlet awaits them?

2008 is the year misogyny was made cool. Four years later, the verbal and visual assaults against women continue unchecked. The culprits may surprise you. The facts will shock you.

DIRTY WORDS ON CLEAN SKIN transcends party politics and goes far beyond the treatment of one woman to examine the cost of denying equal respect to all women.

DIRTY WORDS ON CLEAN SKIN is available for purchase today on Amazon and on Kindle as well. The official book launch will be April 24th. I am so pleased to make it available early for my readers. You have encouraged me, taught me to stand up, to make an argument, and most of all, to understand that my principles are more important than being liked.

I am grateful to you all. Thank you so much for your support of my work!

Dirty Words on Clean Skin by Anita Finlay — Website Launch!
Posted on April 9, 2012 by Anita Finlay (“Ani”)
In an election year, we can be sure of two things: First, the incumbent and his opponent are going to pander to groups where their poll numbers need shoring up. Second, we can count on the mainstream media to function as the de facto PR firm for their favored son, further ginning up whatever problem said politician avers we need to solve, coincidentally ensuring his re-election. In this case, that favored son is President Obama.

The current pandering is aimed squarely at the hearts and minds of women. First, we had the contraceptive debate designed to whip us into a frenzy and now, suddenly, and as if it had not occurred to anyone else before him, the President deigns to tell us women we are not cookie cutter people and need to be dealt with as individuals. Will this political pander work? Of course it will. If I’d learned anything in 2008, it is that women have an endless capacity to settle for crumbs rather than standing up to claim the cake. That is the only way we could have witnessed the more qualified female candidate dragged through the mud, only to watch Ms. Magazine offer up a cover photo of Mr. Obama and declare, “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like.”

The real war on women is something entirely different than we are led to believe. It cannot be contained in soundbites and certainly will not be explained in worthy fashion by someone who advantaged himself at every turn by the sexist rhetoric that was used to take down his worthy primary opponent. In the name of changing the narrative and reclaiming the debate, my book Dirty Words On Clean Skin asks us all to examine the daily media and political brainwashing that deliberately shames, marginalizes and abuses women. I am so pleased to launch my website to further this cause…please help it to go viral!

Also on the website is a video that shares more information about the book — and why it advantages all of us to get involved:

Please visit my site at www.AnitaFinlay.com.

DIRTY WORDS ON CLEAN SKIN is now available for purchase on Amazon, and is also available on Kindle!

Thank you very much for your support of my work!

Was yesterday really HP’s birthday?

I didn’t mention it, but it was mine too.

You mean HP and I were born on the same day of the same month?

No wonder I like her so much. :-)

Hope you had a good one HP.

Obama doesn’t like being lectured by a female:

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/04/10/Visibly-Annoyed-Obama-Gets-Lecture-Form-Female-President-of-Brazil

Even when she is the president of Brazil.

Obama is the Emperor of the world. He does not like being chastised by anyone, male or female.

I don’t want to take away from the above book but I had to post this hilarious
link. I didn’t watch it but if you do, please watch out for your shoes should your reflexes get the better of you. The caption: Michelle endorses Obama.
I hope and pray that the election is based solely on his own merit and no one like Oprah, Clinton or any super celebrity comes out to support him nor did he have to resort to fraudulent votes again.

Hi PUMAs, Happy Birthday to HP and Delle and all good wishes to you all. I ordered my book and a great big thanks to Ani for writing our journey.I know it must have been difficult. I am doing everything possible to keep the selected one from being re selected. His BS is getting deeper to wade in. Keep asking the s ame question who is he and how the hell did so many fall for his hopey changey mantra? And still do? Yet Hillary continues to be exactly who she proved she was..incredible woman. How proud I am of her and all of you. Blessings to all.

FLBarbara 04.13.12 at 9:43 am

JJust a thought..if according to Obama Bush has been running the country for the past 3 1/2 years then we really can’t afford 4 more years of Bush in Obamas white house so we need to vote Obama out and blame it on Bush.!!

From texts from Hillary..TTYL

It’s been an overwhelming—and hilarious—week for us here at Texts from Hillary (TFH). What started as a joke at the bar between two friends turned into a national conversation about Secretary Clinton and went as far as talks about 2016.

After a week that included 32 posts, 83,000 shares on Facebook, 8,400 Twitter followers, over 45K Tumblr followers, news stories around the world, Renee Montagne from Morning Edition saying “ROFL,” a Maureen Dowd column, and a tweet from ?uest Love, we think it’s time to stop while we are ahead.

As far as memes go – it has gone as far as it can go. Is it really possible to top a submission from the Secretary herself? No. But then when you get to text with her in real life – it’s just over. At least for us. But we have no doubt it will live on with all of you on the Internet.

The site will stay up but we won’t be posting anything new here. You can follow us on Twitter (@ASmith83, @Sllambe) and Tumblr (Stacy at ImWithKanye and Adam’s work account, Public Campaign Action Fund).

Thanks for all the LOLz. We truly appreciate all the support.

It turns out that memes really do come true.

Delle – What Paul Begala’s article tells me is that when a woman is not playing in a man’s sand box, then she is OK. She is not a threat. They even like her.
When she tries to get into their sand box, then, they are like a swarm of rabid African bees… (p/s: I’m learning about bee keeping thus the analogy).

Funny that Begala thinks that she ran a “messy” campaign. She has the support of a twice elected President and all the 18 million supporters. How much better can you be – but I guess a lot better when you are running against a Chicago fraud.

24

stoney42 04.14.12 at 7:30 pm

I find the Hillary 2016 chatter rather odd. Why now? A little early isn’t it? Perhaps Alexrod and company are trying to stop the Hillary 2012′s momentum.

25

Headclunker 04.14.12 at 8:21 pm

Stoney42,
I think it is what people are saying who do not want to publicly say 2012, instead. If she keeps her 2008 organization and starts preparing for 2016, she could be ready to go anytime.

26

Dragonfly 04.15.12 at 7:34 am

Happy belated, Delle and HP. I love Aries people!!

I am reading the book – I am about halfway through. As painful as it is, I am glad there is a book that gathers the data and the quotes. What I’ve read validates my decision to cut out cable and stop watching network news.

27

Delle 04.15.12 at 2:40 pm

Of course you love Aries people. We are all wonderful! :-)

Thanks Dragonfly.

28

Dragonfly 04.15.12 at 3:40 pm

Delle, what a classic Aries thing to say. :-D

I am an Aquarius Sun but my Mars is in Aries which I think gives me a tendency to like all y’all. My little Dragon-girlfly is an Aries Sun. Let me tell you, PUMAs, she is a force of nature. I am so proud of her but what a road is ahead for her. Already at her young age she has shown herself to be the smartest person around and is treated unfairly (sexism?) for it. This week coming is the most significant testing period for her age group, and she will likely do very well on the examination. Last year, she missed not one question on the state-mandated exam (both reading and math) and was sent special acknowledgements by elected officials we had never heard from or supported. Another girl in my daughter’s class also makes straight As but told my daughter, “you’re the smartest because you can work the math out in your head, and I have to do it on paper.” My daughter’s grades are not only all A, but high As, 97s, 98s, 99s, and 100 at the end of the grading period. The boys are merciless but is it just the age or is it because my daughter is smarter than they are?

I am already looking into Wellesley for this little dragonfly. I wish she could be in an all girl educational environment now. The only private school options around here (pre-college) are fundamentalist Christian or Catholic. Good thing she is an Aries Sun, right? She believes in her own authority, thank goodness. She also has Pluto at her Midheaven, so she is a change agent, whether we can handle it or not. I get schooled in that part of her nature on a pretty regular basis now that the puberty hormones are coursing in her veins.

Almost done with the book. It has been sad to relive that part of our history. I had forgotten as much as I could about it. Certain remarks stood out in my memory without always being connected to the person who made them and certain networks remained evil in my mind without my thinking about why. This thorough expose reminds me of all the answers.

Hillary’s loyalty to the party is going to keep her from being on the ballot for 2012, but not 2016. I hope she takes the time to relax and enjoy some time traveling and writing for a few years after this election and then jumps in there for 2016. I have decided to remain a Democrat as long as she is, but I think everyone here who knows me knows what I will be doing in the ballot box in November – it won’t be to vote for teh One. I’ll probably write in Nader and vote for him. The party system is broken and corrupt, unworkable, and a tool being used to destroy our government. That the media has become simply corporate-owned theater with meaningless spin – no longer the Fourth Estate – is a consequence of the underlying problem and cause: we live in a plutocracy, not a republic.

I was flipping through my May copy of Elle magazine -and ugh! was not prepared for this: Go get a copy if you want to read it – She cannnot be VP to Him!!

“Dreaming of Hillary”
Secretary of State Clinton has won over her harshest critics and become so popular that some Democrats are envisioning a future in which she replaces Joe Biden as vice president on the 2012 ticket and then – dare they imagine it – takes the top job in 2016…

35

freddiebrown 04.17.12 at 2:43 am

I just finished the very interesting candid article..you must read it. Hillary’s inner circle discusses 2016. They didn’t discuss 2012 as “his” prop – as in prop him up as his VP !

My copy of Dirty words on Clean Skin arrived yesterday and so far all I can manage to do is stare at the cover..Emotions run the extreme for me BUT I am so happy this journey is in black and white. I saw Hillary at an event in NYC last month and I wish I could have handed her this book, hopefully Ani has or will, She would love it. I will begin the book tonight.
THANK YOU ANI SO VERY MUCH

37

Ani 04.17.12 at 5:59 pm

I hope you don’t mind if I stop by and say hello!

Thank you all so much for your support of my work. Yes, Dirty Words was hard to write, but it would have been much harder not to. This feels like a personal best and in the end, has turned into a very empowering journey. I hope you will see why as you finish the book. Bless you all for helping me to spread the word, and for your kindness. The best part of all of this is the amazing reaction I have received from my sister and fellow Hillary supporters.

I hope you will also be happy to learn even though the book is still only in pre-release and been out just a couple of weeks, it has already changed a few minds.

Thank you again. Sending light and good wishes to each of you.

Some of you know how I feel about the TSA. I consider the entire program to be an illegal, humiliating and unnecessary intrusion of privacy.

So, of course, I was rather stunned to see Sheila Jackson Lee supporting the presence of agents on buses in the Houston area.

I am LMAO over the “war on dogs” the obots heads are exploding..bwahahaha
Why doesn’t Obama play with his dog? He was told never to play with his food.

Why did Romney put his dog on top the car?
So obama wouldn’t eat him.

Where we see mans best friend obama sees an appetizer.

Damn Obama, you is crazy..at least I didn’t eat the dogs after I killed em”..Michael Vick

And when the obots comment well well he was just a child a response was
“Well then let’s talk about his cocaine use…deal?
And
“He allegedly ate man sausage as a adult”

Can you say backfire?

Delle 04.22.12 at 5:43 am

My vacation time has finally arrived and this afternoon Hubby and I will be leaving for England, Scotland and Wales!

I am very excited about the trip and have been looking forward to it for a while, but you can’t believe how much I dread meeting up with those agents. This is the first time I’ve flown since the pat downs started.

We will be leaving from Kennedy Airport, so if you hear anything on the news about a female passenger screaming hysterically while fighting off the agent – that might be me.

If you hear about a male passenger punching out an agent and throwing him to the ground – it could be my husband. He feels the same way as I do about having strangers putting their hands all over him.

See you in a couple of weeks when I return.

62

Dragonfly 04.22.12 at 8:11 am

Delle, have a wonderful trip! I hope you won’t have to deal with a pat down. I flew recently and the airport security checks were the x rays – I stood in a tube with two openings and lifted my arms with my feet on the marked places. After a few seconds, I was out of there. I was wearing a business suit with a pin during one of the checks – a female agent touched my shoulder where the pin was and that was it.

Will security at kennedy always involve pat downs even if you “pass” an electronic screen?

Well, focus on the good part of getting across the Atlantic to enjoy your adventure! It’s Earth Day, maybe that will be good luck. :-)

63

Dragonfly 04.22.12 at 8:16 am

also, shout out to my friends on the West Coast – on May 20-21, there will be an eclipse visible in your area. Also, there will be the Venus transit in June and an eclipse on November 13, 2012. Please make sure your gas tanks are full and you have preparations made to evacuate if necessary in advance of the May 20 eclipse as such events are often connected to earthquake activity.

Dances, thanks for the link to Ani’s post at Uppity. I love Uppity’s blog and also have really enjoyed reading Ani’s posts and comments. Bill Maher is insufferable, by the way. I loathe him and have for years.

Talking about vacations….I’ll be going to Madrid and Barcelona around May 4 for a week or more depending…if I like it. Meeting a friend there who is on a short business trip so I’ll be by myself for most of the trip. I was wondering if anyone here want to go with or meet there or ? Never been to Spain.

66

I had stopped at a red light a couple of days ago, and a young man pulled up beside me. He tooted and said “Hillary”, then gave me the thumbs-up. He had seen my Hillary 2012 bumper sticker.
Yesterday, I was walking in the grocery store parking lot and a man noticed my Hillary 2012 pin attatched to my purse. He said “I am a Republican and I would vote for Hillary in a heart beat. I wish she would run”
Don’t know these men. They may be “stupid” in their personal lives, but they know who would make the Best President.

off topic but had to share this link and a comment

http://news.yahoo.com/catholic-nuns-group-stunned-vatican-slap-141447455.html

Uh oh, the nuns have been spending too much time on poverty and social justice and not enough on abortion and gay marriage, Pope says. Also, the Pope has reprimanded the US Catholic nuns’ organization for taking positions that are contrary to bishops “who are the Church’s authentic teachers on faith and morals.”

Somewhat related, I heard an interview on NPR of three daughters who were sexually abused by their father who, upon checking himself out of the psych hospital (where he was staying to avoid arrest), got a job with young children from a priest who knew the man had committed sexual crimes. This led the daughters to press criminal charges against their father. He served 5 years in prison, got out on good behavior, and died a year after his release. The sisters’ story is called “Click click, it was his signal.”

hey freddie had to put up the Never Been to Spain song after I read your comment.

I would love to go! Many years ago now I visited Madrid. My favorite parts of the visit (as a 17 year old) were watching flamenco dancers while at dinner and visiting Juan Carlos’ palace. I hear Barcelona is more wonderful than Madrid. I have a friend in Switzerland and family in Finland. Hoping to get the money for the plane tickets so that the dragonflies and I can go one of these years.

Safe travels, freddie.

Maureen Dowd Eats Crow…Maybe
Posted on April 23, 2012 by Anita Finlay (“Ani”)
I missed this NY Times column on Hillary Clinton, entitled “State of Cool,” the first time around, but since I have devoted a chapter to Ms. Dowd and her negative Hillary musings, I felt I ought to report her mysterious sea change, if indeed that is what it is:

Hillary is not going to President Obama’s Democratic convention inCharlotte. Evidently, she’s going to wait for her own.

Yo, Maureen – from your lips to God’s ears.

The recent spate of Tumblr images have reinvented Hillary as the epitome of badass cool, but it is a little too late for the dour Ms. Dowd to try to get on Hill’s good side after spending years trashing her in every column:

It seems it is not legal for a Sec of State to campaign for the President – that is what has been said about the absence of Hillary on his campaign trail or even to stump for him.

I am so worried to see Wolf Blitzers interview with Hillary, again, asking if she would be his VP if asked. It is evident that Wolf is a Hillary supporter. Too many are whispering that Obama might ask her to VP – we know that there’s over 18 million votes right there…and it would be a slam dunk for him.

Dances, I so agree even IF Hillary was on his ticket I would not vote for him. She turned down the VP position in 2008, she distanced herself from him and the Dems as SOS and she is enjoying high approval ratings for having chosen that option. To run along side him now would be political suicide for her, IF he gets 4 more years there is no way a D would have a rats ass of a chance of getting elected in 2016, even Hillary. He is about to go down in history as the worst POTUS ever and she the best SOS ever. why would she join him as his VP with his record?
She has said she will resign and devote her time to her passions and I believe that IF and that’ s a big IF she decides to run in 2016 it will once again be on her own merits, experience and qualifications and NOT about Obama’s now proven record of failure.
