Arab Hell

by murphy on December 18, 2011

in Islam versus Women,The Habit of Freedom,The War on Women

Photo: Reuters

The attack was captured on video. Warning: it is VERY disturbing.

From the Atlantic:
“there is something especially barbaric about this photo. The taboo of violence against unarmed women is unusually strong in the Arab world. But to watch three soldiers beat a defenseless woman with batons, their fists, and for one extraordinarily cruel soldier with his boot, is not even the most provocative part. For these men to pull her black abaya above her head and expose her midriff and chest is, for Egypt, a profound and sexually charged humiliation.”

The author makes several illegitimate attempts to give the soldiers the benefit of the doubt, and his insistence that “the taboo of violence against unarmed women is unusually strong in the Arab world” rings pretty fucking hollow when describing a culture that regularly sexually assaults, honor kills, and gang rapes innocent unarmed women every god damned day.

We are all giving the obamas some fine Christmas gift this year – a 17 day vacation.

http://www.hawaiireporter.com/with-more-vacation-days-and-separate-travel-price-of-obama%E2%80%99s-annual-hawaiian-holiday-rises

And they will be traveling separately –
“The President and his family are traveling separately to Hawaii because he wants resolve the payroll tax cut issue before leaving Washington – and his wife does not want to wait”.

Of course she can’t wait. She is the first lady after all. And there is plenty of taxpayer money to cover her extra expenses.

So, let’s wish the first family a great vacation and a very Merry Christmas, shall we?

HO HO HO!

Dear Madam Secretary:
Let’s get right to the point.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, you need to run for the Presidency of the United States in 2012.

Every poll shows that you would defeat any Republican candidate for president by a wide margin. However, the same polls indicate the opposite if you are not the Democratic nominee.

That glass is half full of water and the other half with air, so, technically, the glass is always full. :)

Also, the bots may be louder but that doesn’t mean they are greater in numbers. You know, like when there’s one male in a room with ten women, generally speaking the only voice you hear is the male’s.

I believe Republicans and others will hold their nose and vote for one of the pathetic candidates the Rs are running.

Me? I’ll be voting for Dr. Jill Stein unless Hillary runs.

A Chinese company is developing a massive complex in the Arizona/Nevada desert. It intends to build a solar panel factory, then a solar energy plant. The company ultimately wants to build an “eco-city” powered by renewable energy with solar energy manufacturing as the primary source of employment for its residents.

I haven’t had a TSA rant in a while, so I thought it was time.

Seriously though, this is from a Russian news site – Russia Today.

Even they are talking about the invasive procedures that Americans must go through at the airport. They sarcastically call this ‘the season for government gropers and festive full body scans’.

http://rt.com/usa/news/fly-tsa-christmas-security-385/

The problem is – they are right!

26

freddiebrown 12.21.11 at 8:32 pm

Welcome back TSA Delle. You havent been gone too awfully long. My flying season is coming up very early in January so I am bracing for some groping.

Dear Rancho (Mr&Mrs “Rancho”)
Thank you SO SO SO much for your wonderful gesture in providing a few more tents for the homeless. I didn’t see your post above and got the surprise check today. I am so touched to know that Pumas here have trusted me with their hard earned money to help the homeless. I will definately use it ASAP before Christmas – we are now giving out huge sheets of thick plastic sheeting as we have seen their belongings getting wet in the rain. Sending good Karma your way Rancho :) Thanks again.

Delle 12.22.11 at 11:29 am

Good luck once you start flying again. Let us know how it is and whether or not the groping and pat downs got any worse.

From all my rantings, you’d think I would never get on a plane again. Not so. Hubby and I just put down a deposit on a spring tour of England, Wales and Scotland.

I am so looking forward to the trip, but I absolutely dread going through the airport.

The government sure knows how to spoil a person’s vacation!

29

freddiebrown 12.22.11 at 12:30 pm

Delle – It seems to me that your focus needs to be on 99.9% of the wonderful things that are happening in your life with the wonderful vacation coming up. TSA should be only thought about when you reach the airport curb and once you get out of security check. Don’t let what could be so inconsequential in the big picture even put a damper – it is so so so un-necessary. Focus on the fun positive. I don’t give TSA any space in my head and for heavens sake don’t say anything (i hate to say the word stupid) when you’re at security.

What Freddie said.
PS I can’t say that I travel on planes much but I haven’t experienced any of the horrific pat downs and invasions of personal space that are dramatic enough to warrant headlines. Given the millions who fly, adjusted for the number of those record and diseminate the incidents of grotesque patdowns, I’m willing to risk saying that your chances of suffering those kinds of humiliations are close to nil.

*Disclaimer: In no way do I support patdowns, invasive or not.

Delle and others would be happy to hear this: Yes, it is from a Republican but No it is not a conspiracy right wing nut job a ma jig. Last night on Fox news it talks about the TSA’s budget of 8 Billion, more than National defence, more than any other other Federal agencies.. they were asking why? Good question if you ask me. Go to the airport security and you can see that it is over run with “security personnel” all puffed up trying to look impotent.
Read below :

House Republicans look to ‘strip’ TSA screeners of their ‘officer’ title
By Pete Kasperowicz – 12/09/11 09:31 AM ET

More than two dozen House Republicans introduced legislation on Thursday that would prevent the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) from calling airport screeners “officer” unless they have gone through federal law enforcement training or are otherwise eligible for federal law enforcement benefits.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), the lead sponsor of the Stop TSA’s Reach in Policy (STRIP) Act, said that TSA has essentially allowed its airport screeners to play dress-up by giving them metal badges and police-like uniforms in recent years. But she said many airport screeners have no “officer” qualifications, and should have this title removed.

She also said giving airport screeners police-like uniforms has led to problems. She said in New Jersey, a screener was arrested for impersonating an officer, and a Virginia woman was raped by a screener after he approached her showing his TSA badge.

“It is outrageous that in a post-9/11 world … the American people should have to live in fear of those whose job it is to keep us safe,” Blackburn said. “Congress has sat idly by as the TSA strip-searches 85-year-old grandmothers in New York, pats down 3-year-olds in Chattanooga and checks colostomy bags for explosives in Orlando.

“Enough is enough!” she added. “The least we can do is end this impersonation, which is an insult to real cops.”

Freddiebrown and Dances – thanks for your wise advice.

I know you are right. I do know it, but I have somehow allowed these pat downs to become an obsession. I just can’t stand the thought of choosing between a naked scanner and an agent’s hands patting me down as if I was a common criminal.

I will try to concentrate more on the great vacation coming up and less on the airport check-up. Of course that is easier said than done.

I turned on the news this morning, only to hear about some woman sitting in an airport enjoying a cupcake. A cupcake! Imagine that! They couldn’t let this continue. A TSA Agent confiscated the cupcake from her, explaining that the icing on top was against the TSA rules.

My God! This is even worse than anything Orwell thought up.

But I’ll forget about it for now.

Have a Merry Christmas everyone. Happy Hanukkah and all those other good things too.

A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the highway outside Washington , DC . Nothing was moving. Suddenly, a man knocks on the window.

The driver rolls down the window and asks, “What’s going on?”

“Terrorists have kidnapped Congress, and they’re asking for a $100 million dollar ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them all in gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, collecting donations.”

“How much is everyone giving?” the driver asks.

The man replies, “Roughly a gallon”***

Rancho – I got 4 tents with your donation and went to deliver 7 tents, 4 sleeping bags and 20 black plastic sheeting this afternoon – not a very good catch. Needless to say, it was almost un-bearable for me – people pleading to have a tent or a sleeping bag but 7 + 4 to mostly women didn’t go far. You would be glad to know that except for 2 men, they all went to women. I went to give out Starbucks pastries last night and one woman Janice asked me to look for her at 1 pm and I was on time so she got a tent and I got a hug.One caucasian woman was way at the back but I asked her to come forward. She was not very pushy but the guys were very helpful and made way for her. One caucasian guy in his 30′s (looks newly homeless)wanted a sleeping bag but I had nothing left. He asked for a blanket so I grabbed our (well it was more Freds blanket) nice fluffy blanket that was semi new and gave it to him.
So it was a bit sad that I am not richer to do more – so I better go as I am a bit teary about it.

Dear Freddie . .
We read your note just before going to church. The homily was delivered by a friend, and it centered around the song “Where’s The Line to See Jesus”. You immediately came to mind. It chocked me up to read “So it was a bit sad that I am not richer to do more – so I better go as I am a bit teary about it”

I don’t want to sound “churchy” or offend you or anyone on this site, but feel very strongly that I need to say that YOU and your husband were able to greatly touch 11 lives, and NO ONE would have been blessed if you had stayed at home. You responded to an inner call, however you choose to define that. You made a big difference in 11 lives, and touched ours as well.

63

freddiebrown 12.25.11 at 7:14 pm

Hi Rancho – Thanks. It was very difficult to tell some of the folks that I didn’t have anything left for them – and to see the plain need in their eyes was tough. I promised I will be back-so I have to keep my promise.
We went to midnight mass and my atheist husband enjoyed it too, only saying not to expect him to kneel/ bob and such. He was glad none of his nice jackets was in my vehicle or it would have been given away. But of course.

After having a happy Christmas Day, I found this sad news this morning. Lynn Samuels died.

Possibly not many of you heard of her. She was a radio host on a local NYC station.

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/television/wabc-host-lynn-samuels-dies-christmas-eve-69-article-1.996718

I have to admit that I didn’t like her at first. Couldn’t stand her voice and didn’t always agree with her. But she grew on me and I am sad about her passing. 69 is much too young.

RIP Lynn.

65

theamericanway 12.26.11 at 6:48 am

Delle, I’d never heard of her until this morning, but the fact that she was a loud voice against current POTUS & her death was unexpected, raises hackles. Same link as yours but with headline and a few snips.
Former WABC host Lynn Samuels dies Christmas Eve at 69 – NY Daily News

…No cause of death was immediately announced. Her body was discovered after she failed to report for her 10 a.m. Saturday show at Sirius XM radio and the company asked police to go to her Woodside, Queens, home.
…Samuels was a self-described progressive who often threw curveballs. She was a long-standing critic of President Obama, saying she didn’t believe he ever really had progressive credentials.

Fox News radio host claims that the TSA agent ripped off the logo and damaged his bag.

So, he works for FOX. So what! The man doesn’t deserve to be treated like this. I should say ‘mistreated’!

http://dailycaller.com/2011/12/26/fox-news-host-says-tsa-damaged-his-bag-with-company-logo-on-it/

When he inquired about his damaged bag, an agent told him to “call the government”.

The arrogance of the TSA agents is astounding! They are like neo-nazis. They are like…..uh-oh. Better stop now. I feel a rant coming on!
