Dehumanizing for the abuser? GMAFB!
There is something seriously seriously F&^ked up in that statement. What the hell is wrong with these people? Sympathy for the devil?

When they aren’t busy protecting the rights of sex abusers, the Occupy doods are writing lists of Demands. This one was drafted for Occupy Portland.

It’s sad really. Some of their ideas seem like good ones (a 1% Wall Street sales tax? Intriguing.) but most are just ridiculous. 100% student loan forgiveness? What the hell?? Have they even thought about what that would mean for kids who are still in college and depending on loans in order to graduate? It’s not like banks will ever make another student loan after the govmt steps in and cancels them. Also, why the hell would anyone make a payment if they knew the loans could be forgiven by the govmt in the future? And if the govmt makes it a crime to foreclose on a home until the economic crisis is over, why the heck would any homeowner bother to make a payment?? Lordy
ProudMilitaryMom 10.19.11 at 2:54 pm
Seize banks? So what happens to the little I have left? What happens to my husbands 401k (the little that is left)? The govt does such a great job with things? So we want them running the banks? Not a good idea.I need to get a bunch of coffee cans and bury what little we have in the backyard until we manage to get Glass/Steagall reinstated.
We have given up a LOT these past few years to be able to keep making the mortgage payment. Due to the back injury- my credit has gone to hell- so we can not get the mortgage company to write us a new loan with a lower rate either.
Some times it does not seem to be worth it to be honest.

Didn’t Obama give them accelerated loan forgiveness already? (P.L. 111-152 -reduced payments to 10% of discretionary income with forgiveness after 20 years of on-time payments). Apparently that’s not good enough. They want a free ride.
Okay, maybe he didn’t give them as much money as they wanted. Some of the savings realized by eliminating the federally-guaranteed student loan program were redirected to help pay for the 2009 stimulus bill. Granted, doubt it made much of a dent in it… let’s see now, what did that bill add to the national debt? Thinking it was around $800 billion that it added… somebody’s gonna have to pay that back at some time. Probably gonna be those OWS grandchildren… so do they want their grandchildren to be paying off grandpa’s tuition bills also?
turndownobama 10.19.11 at 11:03 pm
Here’s what some OWS people at Zucotti Park REALLY said in a recent poll. (The poll was taken by a WJS operative, so it would have chosen the craziest looking people to interview. But they still only got about 4% crazy answers. The rest of the answers were pretty mainstream.)
This is from an article by a journalist who saw the actual questions and answers and disagrees with the WSj about their interpretation.
More details at the site. Those who were unemployed said they recently lost their jobs.

From dwp’s link:
“While no male passengers sitting at the front of the bus explicitly told a female reporter to move, several riders said women did not belong there. One father who sat in the front with his son and daughter and declined to give his name said men and women “need to be separated.” He looked down at his daughter dressed in a bright red raincoat, with her blue eyes frozen in amazement, and said: “She’s small. When she’s big, she will sit in the back.”
Even if the buses allow women to sit in the front, it may take longer for male riders to feel comfortable. As Asaf Amitay, a 35-year-old regular rider on the bus, rode home to Borough Park, he made it clear that he did not believe that women should be seated in the front.
“I don’t like it,” he said. “The women is in the back. The men are in the front.””
holy smokes.

It was signed into law with a start date of July 2014. So they did get something and if it isn’t what they wanted, then they should look at it as an educational experience… you don’t always get what you want.
Personally, I had to work to pay for any higher education I received. It’s hard to hold down a job and take classes. Nobody cut me any slack… ever. Sure, it would be nice to have free education for all, but that isn’t realistic and somebody has to pay for it. What I did find out several years ago, while I was working my ass off and couldn’t afford the time or money for classes, is that our government gives grants to rich foreigners. The grant received by one student I met was more than my yearly income at the time. I’m sure it is the same for many others. Anyway, that really pissed me off. I’m not completely sure how its done, but I believe it was wrapped in foreign aid. I’m not against foreign aid, but we cannot control how the money is spent and, of course, need to look out for our own.
I do digress quite a bit, but that anyone who could say rape is “dehumanizing for the abuser” is well… that person’s mind has to be really feked up. It’s sooooo wrong. Unfortunate that many young women won’t realize just how wrong it is. Women aren’t encouraged to stand up for their rights and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. One of the reasons I heard for electing Obama was that “it would be good for young black children to see that blacks can achieve this.” Well, what about women? The best candidate was Clinton. I’ll leave it at that.
The job market is slim, but it was during the recession in the 70s also. These kids were raised in a time of excess. Makes growing up a bit more difficult. Nonetheless its gotta be done. They need to figure out that their list of grievances isn’t going to be fixed by either party, and of course, that rape is not okay.

It is a public law and if you want to know exactly what it says, you will have to look it up. Sorry, but I don’t know what this board has come to over the past couple of years. For a previous post of mine, I gave links to town newspapers and local media to support my statements and was told (by someone else, not you) that they didn’t trust my links.
Seems to me that these kids think they should get a free education if they are looking for 100% loan forgivness as was stated earlier. Seriously, who the fek do they think they are? They voted for Obama partly because he promised them breaks on education. Hey, they got it! Like I said before, P.L. 111-152 reduced payments to 10% of discretionary income with forgiveness after 20 years of on-time payments. Believe that was changed from 15% of discretionary income with forgiveness after 25 years, but could be mistaken on that and don’t have time to go back and look at the moment.
If you think free education is attainable in this economy, well we might as well agree to disagree. When I look around, I do see “help wanted” signs occasionally at restaurants, shipping stores, and such. There are some jobs out there. I was taught that you have to work hard to get an education as well as a good job, not expected them to be handed to you. I look around and see overweight and undermotivated youth and it disgusts me.
turndownobama 10.20.11 at 3:09 pm
The priorities the OWS people who were interviewed by the WSJ (open ended, they could mention anything they liked) did NOT mention “free education” or student loans at all. See my posts about that survey above.
“Free education” or even “better student loan terms” seems to be a straw man charge made against OWS. Tho I’m sure a few could be found who would agree with it. But it’s not one of their big focuses.
ipotter 10.20.11 at 3:30 pm

You say:
“Free education” or even “better student loan terms” seems to be a straw man charge made against OWS.
Well, it was in Murphy’s link to Occupy Portland’s demands that they want 100% student loan forgiveness, which to me equals a free education. If you want to say its a straw man charge against OWS, you have that right, but I disagree. I do not support OWS in any way. Those were Obama supporters, and in the end I believe they will vote for him again. If they were marching on the White House, I might look at it differently.

Agree with you. And, although there are protesters occupyers in DC, what’s also going on is there are calls for peeps not to bash obama (he is one 0of the 1%, btw). So, until they stop siding with TehOnce, and until there are equal numbers of women in their non-leader leadership, the Occupies will remain in the More Boiz Noize category for me.
PS I did read in one of their lists of demands Full forgiveness of student loans. There’s no such thing as “forgiveness of loans”, someone always ends up with the bill… US taxpayers.

WASHINGTON — Women are more likely to sustain injuries in an auto accident because safety features are designed more with men in mind, a new study has said.
Combing through a decade of data about US motor vehicle accidents, three researchers found the odds of serious injury for female drivers wearing seat belts were 47 percent higher than those of men in a comparable mishap

turndownobama 10.20.11 at 10:10 pm
OK, Portland and Zucotti Park are two different Occupy sites. Portland does have some action going about student loans. The WSJ poll at Zucotti Park of NY OWS people did not find any OWS protestors even mentioning student loans as personal concerns, iirc. So claiming that all OWS everywhere is focused on “free education” would be a straw man.
Also, there’s a difference between “dischargable in bankruptcy” and “100% forgiveness (without bankruptcy).”

Here is an interesting look at Zucotti Park and the occupiers who have settled themselves there.
I would have presumed that after these many weeks some person – or persons – would have had to take charge and organize events and so on. It turns out some did attempt to do this, but other occupiers refuse to take orders. There is also a problem of controlling the noise and of sharing the wealth.
The same problems that take place in the real world just outside the park.

Give it UP, ipotter.
Just because you are unable to resist swallowing the raw, inedible, toxic, pathetic rightwing red meat that “voter” fraud can ever or will ever be able to amount to anything, doesn’t mean you can serve that swill here unchallenged, altho who knows how long I will be allowed to or even care to repeat (and repeat and repeat) the obvious.
It’s a never-ending RAG DOLL the rightwing pit bulls never tire of slobbering over, even after the attorney general scandal where REPUBLICAN attorney generals refused to follow the Bush regime’s marching orders and were illegally fired for refusing to promote this UTTERR BULLSHIT that a second grader would recognize is unable to amount to any possible threat because it is WAY too complicated to commit en masse, which is the ONLY way iot would make a difference.
Not to mention it requires a world view that massive numbers of Americans are not only willing to cheat but also willing to cheat and RISK IMPRISONMENT for a single extra vote.
Nice try, if you’re venal. Sorry about your reasoning power, if you’re simply an excitable fool.
Zee 10.22.11 at 12:01 am
This is not to be confused (except by rightwingers or those unwittingly influenced by such) with VOTE fraud, which is perpetrated ON voters.
Voters are simple American patriots and NOT susceptible to mass fraud. VOTE fraud is perpetrated by people behind the scene who know how to game the system.
Rightwingers who think that lefties are willing to go to extreme lengths en masse and risk jail to defraud their neighbors can inhale on a body part I don’t possess.

Zee 10.22.11 at 12:23 am
#35 dances…take what ipotter says with a grain of salt.
Maybe elsewhere s/he was told it was an “unlikely fabrication” but here s/he was told that would be an excellent line of attack to look into if Zero has to again rise to such a level to be on the ballot in 2012…and that it was a sad missed opportunity in 2008 to knock him off the ballot in the same way he knocked Alice Palmer off, so he had no competition to gain the state senate seat.
ipotter then spent considerable time here trying to promote the idea that Zero’s campaign deliberately gathered fake signatures, which is plainly insane, as there is no benefit to waste time making up fake names when with less effort one could collect enough surplus valid names. The only benefit lies with individuals who want to collect money for nothing…campaigns do not benefit by spending extra time and money creating fake names when for peanuts they can amass more valid names.
McCain and Hillary and Alice Palmer and every last politician on earth all get false info on their lists, due to normal, predictable human nature…or else Obama would not have known to challenge every single name on popular incumbent Alice Palmer’s lists in order to have her knocked off the ballot.
Another nice try, ipotter, but the fact that Zero did not make the effort to get enough extra names to ensure the threshhold of valid names met the requirements means only that we missed an opportunity to use his own dirty trick against him as he used on Alice. It doesn’t mean that there is any doubt the fake names were an “unlikely fabrication.” It only means that his campaign was slack enough not to ensure their efforts compensated for the ordinary, inevitable and universal accumulation of unusable names on any and every list.

I pointed to the TGW link about the women at the back of the bus story several posts ago. Just saying.
Meanwhile, I think it’s important to EDUCATE the kids standing up in camps across the country, but anyone missing the BUS on this one just deserves servitude. The kids are acting on blind faith but are brilliant in their uprising and are to be commended. And luckily they are not alone. SOME adults recognize the service they are doing all of us and prefer to help and guide them.
For the rest of you? Choose Civil Obedience. Be my guest.
Why not trash the DOOD US military as useless pieces of shit since *they* — in FAR greater numbers!!!— RAPE, gang abuse, and then humiliate any SISTER US soldier who happens to be a woman and speaks up about it?
Well, the military deserves to be held to a higher standard and so do these camps of protesters…but my point is that “held accountable” doesn’t mean we denounce the entire military just because far too many guys are pigs and abuse their own sister soldiers, does it?
And, for good reason. These soldiers serve in good faith and so do these kids protesting. Freeing them from the ingrained societal constructs we all move in is a duty. Spitting on them is …. what? a disservice? Or is it better described as reprehensible?
You’re welcome.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/10/18/college-student-credited-with-uncovering-possible-election-fraud-in-indianas/
College Student Credited with Uncovering Possible Election Fraud in Indiana’s 2008 Primary
Shocking election fraud allegations have stained a state’s 2008 presidential primary – and it took a college student to uncover them.
“This fraud was obvious, far-reaching and appeared to be systemic,” 22-year-old Ryan Nees told Fox News, referring to evidence he uncovered while researching electoral petitions from the 2008 Democratic Party primary in Indiana.
Nees’ investigation centered on the petitions that put then-senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the ballot. As many as 150 of the names and signatures, it is alleged, were faked. So many, in fact, that the numbers raise questions about whether Obama’s campaign had enough legitimate signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot.
“What seems to have happened is that a variety of people in northern Indiana knew that this fraud occurred, and actively participated and perpetuated the fraud, and did so on behalf of two presidential campaigns,” according to Nees.
Prosecutors are now investigating. The scandal has already led to the sudden resignation Monday night of Butch Morgan, chairman of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party. He denied any wrongdoing, saying he looks “forward to an investigation that will exonerate me.”
Nees, a junior at Yale University, served as an intern in the Obama White House last year and supports the president’s re-election. But as an intern at the non-partisan political newsletter Howey Politics Indiana, he delved into the Byzantine and complicated world of petition signatures and found reams of signatures that he says appeared to be written in the same handwriting, some apparently copied from previous petitions.
The names were subsequently submitted to Indiana election authorities as the signatures of legitimate voters. Nees and Brian Howey, the newsletter’s publisher, then teamed up with the South Bend Tribune to break the story.
St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Dvorak announced Tuesday that the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Indiana will not be investigating these allegations. So Dvorak is doing so and has requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police.
In a statement, Dvorak said the U.S. attorney “does not investigate allegations of fraud in the submission of petitions by political parties for the placement of the names of candidates on the ballot for federal primary elections. They do, however, investigate fraud in voter registration, the actual voting process and in the tabulation of ballots.”
The state Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb had called for a federal investigation.
“We don’t know the extent of the crime. We don’t know how many people. We don’t know if it was organized. Those were some of my questions. How deep does it go? Does it go to one county? Does it go to one district? Does it go to one state? Does it go to 49 other states?”
Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker also supports an investigation. He released a statement that said, in part, “We continue to fully support the investigation into this isolated incident in St. Joseph County. We want to know who committed this act, and we want that person held accountable.”
Nees thinks the candidates did not have knowledge of the alleged forgeries, but he says such things can easily happen.
“This appears to have been the actions of the northern Indiana political machine that operated within the Indiana Democratic Party, not within the campaigns of either President Obama or Secretary of State Clinton,” he said.
“What’s important to me is that this sort of thing not occur in the future. This happened with impunity because no one thought that they would ever get caught, and in fact it was likely that no one would ever catch them because no structural safeguard existed to ensure that this wouldn’t occur.”
Howey, the publisher of the political newsletter, told Fox News he also plans to examine the petitions that put Sen. John McCain’s name on the Republican ballot. “It makes sense to look at the whole thing,” he said.
As Nees sat on a bench on the leafy downtown green in New Haven, Conn., with the imposing ivy and Gothic architecture of Yale behind him, he reflected on what he had found back home in his home state.
“Election fraud is particularly troublesome, because it undermines the integrity of our voting process and basically of our democracy. Maintaining the integrity of elections in the United States is an important thing.”

Ipotter,
I appreciate your point of view. I wish I had the time and energy to follow up on all Fobama’s FRAUD and FAILURE. We are still working on the 2008 campaign contributions, getting the cross referencing finalized, however, we have already identified the donors that are over the campaign contribution limits. I would be willing to bet, that if they were contacted, many of them would say the campaign records are false. We have filed MUR 6142 and hopefully the FEC is doing just that. We will not know the outcome for some time.
It kind of reminds me of a child abuse case I was involved in where we were having trouble getting CPS to take action. We had to build our case. It was not a problem of a lack of material, there were piles of it. It was the organization and presentation of it that demonstrated that the children involved needed interventions that was the task. While we built our case, there was alot of damage done.
It all gets overwhelming.

#35 dances…take what ipotter says with a grain of salt.
ipotter then spent considerable time here trying to promote the idea that Zero’s campaign deliberately gathered fake signatures, which is plainly insane, as there is no benefit to waste time making up fake names when with less effort one could collect enough surplus valid names.
——————-
Now look at who is being naive.
And, surely, the double downing by you and turndownobama on ipotter is not appreciated. You’re both doing what the blog hogs basil and mr smith do to turndownobama at hillaryis44. It’s not the challenging of statements, it’s the personal attacks / name calling that is objectionable.

TurnDownObama
Rather than dealing in personal attacks against a group, let’s look at the group’s message. Truth is truth, regardless of who speaks it.
————————
If you read your comments above, you’d have to admit that the messages of of the O groups are different, i.e. Portland – student loan debt forgiveness while WallStreet doesn’t mention debt forgiveness, etc.)
The O groups do not have a unified message, except “to occupy”.
I mean, one could go into any random crowd, people leaving a baseball game for instance, and ask what their complaints are, and get the same list as the Occupy groups have, as well as the sexism, although I’m quite sure the random groups would include Obama in their list, whereas the Occupy groups seem to censor / sanitize any criticisms of their man-crush.

=====================
Exactly! It’s the same complaints we all have.
But now the politicians and the news people are talking about them, rather than about ‘deficit’ and ‘debt’ and cutting Social Security etc.
And now the ball game fans are getting soem education about where the power is, and learning to spell Glass-Seagall.

Just when I start to think that I have seen it all, this— 285 Indian girls had their names legally changed, because their parents (read fathers) chose to name them “UNWANTED”. Of course, probably many of the girls named “Nakusa” or “Nakushi were starved or sold into slavery or denied medical care when they were sick, these 285 actually reached childhood and a woman decided that it would probably be best if they not be burdened with the name Unwanted. Just imagine going on a job interview with a name like that?? Thank God for the woman the organized the name change and great hatred to the fathers that did that to these beautiful human beings. http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2011-10-22/India-women-names/50869628/1

I saw where she dissed dakinikat for “getting her panties in a twist” over the rape(s) and sexual assaults at Occupy. Totally understandable… there’s something important going on here, to hell with sexually assaulting women… look at the bigger pictcha here… what could be more important than a DoodBros movement, I mean, come on…
I also made the mistake (yet again) of reading the current comments at hillaryis44 where they (mostly the now emboldened Henry, the freak who refers to his daughter as “the brat”, stupid prick.) are bating you again. And of course, that Basil pig made some oinking comment about feminism. Asshats.

Interesting article about christian missionaries in Africa bringing birth control and empowerment to african women:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/23/opinion/sunday/talking-their-way-out-of-a-population-crisis.html
an excerpt:
“A team of doctors from the Ghana Health Service created a program to send nurses from hut to hut on motorized scooters treating sick children and pregnant women and offering contraceptive pills and injections. Ten years later, child mortality had fallen by 70 percent. But most women were still afraid to even discuss family planning.
Dr. Phillips and his Ghanaian colleagues knew that for family planning programs to succeed, they would also have to empower women to use contraception. But how?
At first, they organized special “durbars” — all-male political gatherings presided over by the village chief — to help explain to men that family planning would make their women and children healthier and stronger. These efforts weren’t very successful.
Then the team noticed two things: Their data clearly showed that large numbers of women were having fewer children, whether or not they lived near the experimental family planning programs. And large numbers of evangelical preachers were establishing churches in the Ghanaian hinterlands to which, every Sunday, Kassena-Nankana women dressed in Western-style finery headed in droves.
Dr. Phillips assigned a student to see what effect the churches were having on contraceptive behavior. To their amazement, they found that female Christian converts were three times as likely to use family planning as women who retained their traditional African faith, and had significantly smaller families.
The churches certainly didn’t promote family planning. But, despite their defense of patriarchal family values, many churches were giving women a voice denied them by their own culture.”

I had to comment on the OWS discussion. My neice works for a Broadway Theater and I am proud to say she is the first woman to hold the title of her current position, a position she worked damn hard for. On the weekends the OWS protest in the theater district, she has had her hair pulled, yelled in her ears, hands in her face and groped, constantly having her ass graped. The police are unable to do a thing as they can not identify any one indivdual as they are all in a crowd. They yell “give me a bone pay for my education” as she walks to her job that she needs to pay for her college education. This weekend I along with a very intimidating friend will go with her and if she is bothered they will then deal with US..Trust me.
This is horrifying. What the hell do they want? Yelling at people going to a play and to dinner ” not to support business” is hurting the millions of people who are employed in the theater district so I just don’t get it.
Anyway..I will defend my niece and any women who is mistreated.
Trust Me. I may then go and ride that damn bus and wait for them to tell me to sit in the back!!!

“I’m 76 and I’m Tired”
I’m 76 . Except for brief period in the 50′s when I was doing my National Service, I’ve worked hard since I was 17. Except for some some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn’t call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I’m tired. Very tired.
***I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.
I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honor”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.
I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia, New Zealand, UK, America and Canada, while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..
I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.
I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?
I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.
I’m really tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.
I’m also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20′s bedeck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.
Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 76.. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter and her children. Thank God I’m on the way out and not on the way in.
There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!
This is your chance to make a difference.
” I’m 76 and I’m tired. If you don’t forward this you are part of the problem”.

Me being one of those that just love to know things. (inquiring minds) I would be interested in which “sentiments” you believe in. The ones that they only speak and get elected with,(ie. small government, personal responsibility, etc) or the ones they actually govern by.(ie. government control of female body, anti-equality, etc)

How did San Francisco Chronicle describe White House: NIXONIAN!!
by Greta Van Susteren Posted in: Nixonian, San Francisco Chronicle
OCT 25 2011 – 6:31 PM ET
I know that the SF Chronicle narrows its Nixonian crack to how the White House is handling press access but nonetheless, that is a big shot across the bow from a liberal newspaper! Can you imagine, the Obama White House being called Nixoian?
I can’t think of any crack the paper could make that could make the Obama White House bristle more (and remember, this newspaper is the San Francisco Chronicle…not the Weekly Standard!) And the Nixonian crack is just the beginning…read today’s paper’s editorial below:
By the way, we will be discussing this ON THE RECORD at 10pm tonight…so tune in!
The Obama White House’s restrictions on media access to its fundraising events makes a mockery of its claim to be the most transparent administration in history.
If anything, there is almost a Nixonian quality to the level of control, paranoia – and lack of credibility – this White House has demonstrated on the issue of media access to President Obama’s fundraisers.
Bay Area reporters will not be allowed inside the W Hotel today when the president meets with hundreds of contributors paying $7,500 or more to attend. Only Washington-based journalists were allowed in the pool – continuing a disturbing trend by this White House to severely limit access to fundraisers. Even former President George W. Bush, hardly a champion of transparency, allowed local reporters to cover his fundraising events.
Fundraisers are not private events in this post-Watergate era. Contributions are a matter of public record, and the public has a right to know what is being said to and by the president. Local journalists are better positioned than their Beltway brethren to recognize who is there – and why.
The White House press office seems to have missed the transparency memo. Earlier this spring, it threatened to blacklist The Chronicle’s Carla Marinucci from future pools after she broke what the White House claimed was an unwritten rule against print reporters shooting video. It threatened further retaliation if the paper reported on the threat – which it did. Incredibly, the White House press office denied making the threats. Now it has cut all local reporters out of the pool.
Most transparent administration in history? We’ll see. Right now, we’d settle for straight answers and the opportunity to do our jobs.

DWP – I saw the Greta interview yesterday. I am sure it is an eye opener for the SF Chronicle – to get publicly punished by the Obama’s “White House” for not playing by their rules and wanting transparency (?!) I pity the koolaiders that still think the word transparency applies to Obama. The door to donor fraud and voter fraud is now wide open or is it closed ? Depending on how you see it.
Don’t forget the article….

There is a group of what I call the conservatives on His44 who all post one after the other and get completely obnoxious about a topic. On OWS the admin is posting similar things, so they feel emboldened. A well placed sarcastic remark can sometimes take the wind out of their sails, tho.

***************************
Is it possible that these women are getting either birth control or birth control instruction from someone at these churches? May not be the actual church but someone they meet at the church. I hope so.

“A national poll conducted for TIME on Oct. 9 and 10 found that if Clinton were the Democratic nominee for President in 2012, she would best Mitt Romney 55% to 38%, Rick Perry 58% to 32% and Herman Cain 56% to 34% among likely voters in a general election. The same poll found that President Obama would edge Romney by just 46% to 43%, Perry by 50% to 38% and Cain by 49% to 37% among likely voters.”

Calling for Hillary Opinions
I have got a email conversation going with Tom.Brune@newsday.com about some campaign contributions for HRC. He is interested in getting some information on the following, so please let him know what your think:
While we’re at it, I’m picking up reports and suggestions here and there that many Clinton supporters have a nostalgia for the Clinton presidency that never was. And I have thought about that and wondered: What would or could she have done that Obama didn’t do, and what did Obama do that she wouldn’t or couldn’t do.
Have any thoughts on that?

The close up of Michael Moore during his CNN interview on site at the OWS,shows him with 3 black males and 1 young white male. Two of the black males occasionally punched the air with fists and one of them covered his face with a bandana (much like a bandit is how I can describe it). They smiled and nodded in approval at Moore’s comments. Nice. But I’m glad to see the bigger shot of the crowd in TUrnDownBama’s link.

“When asked to describe her most defining moment, Clinton said in 2007, “I owe it to my mother, who never got a chance to go to college, who had a very difficult childhood, but who gave me a belief that I could do whatever I set my mind to.”
Dorothy Rodham was born and raised in Chicago, but she left home at 14 to work as a nanny. In Clinton’s 2003 autobiography, “Living History,” the secretary of state said of her mother, “I’m still amazed at how [she] emerged from her lonely early life as such an affectionate and level-headed woman.”

“… As Clinton battled Barack Obama for the nomination in April 2008, Rodham joined her daughter and granddaughter at a campaign event at Haverford College, Pa. Then 88, Rodham didn’t speak at the event, but Hillary Clinton noted that her mother lived with her and “always has a lot of great ideas about what we need to be doing,” drawing chuckles from the audience.
When Clinton ended her campaign during a speech in June 2008 at Washington’s National Building Museum, her mother watched from off stage and wiped a tear as Clinton conceded the nomination to Obama. The following February, Rodham was on hand as her daughter was sworn in as Obama’s secretary of state…..”

This makes me so sad.
Just 2 months ago – in the beginning of September – I was downtown NYC with a few friends. We visited the American Indian Museum, the Statue of Liberty and we had lunch at this new cafe called The Milk Street Cafe.
We loved it there. It was friendly, clean and the food was great. We planned to go back someday.
So, when I read this article I felt very bad:
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/11/01/milk-street-cafe-owner-sacks-21-employees-as-consequence-of-occupy-wall-street-demonstration/
What the Hell do the occupiers want? Is it really their goal to close down small businesses and have people losing their jobs? If it is – then they can strike up a success.
DancesWithPumas 11.02.11 at 11:12 am
Delle
Read more than one source and avoid mainstream (corporate) media. The owner of that cafe said he was misquoted by the journalist to represent a biased point of view.
If you want to know what the Occupiers want, read their Tweets and Facebook comments. Go to the source. Don’t depend on those who are invested in selling papers, articles, points of view, defending the corporate hands that feed them.
You’ve asked several times now “what the hell do the occupiers want”, always followed by you’re own speculation. You’re in NY. Go down to ows and ask some people why they’re occupying.

I actually was in the city today, but I didn’t go downtown. I visited the Morgan Library to see the collection of Dickens manuscripts and letters being displayed for his 200th birthday. I am still a bit too nervous to get too close to the occupiers. Some of them have been getting pretty violent. Consider what happened to FL Barbara’s niece.
I know you are right about trusting the media. I don’t really know if the owner of the cafe was misquoted. But I just watched the local evening news where one of the employees of the cafe was interviewed. She actually is supportive of the occupation, but she did verify that she and 20 others from the cafe were let go. It is because of the police barricades that people can not get to the Milk Street Cafe. It will have to close soon if things don’t change. Or so she said.
As far as me asking what they want, I ask because I still don’t know. Recently I watched a pretty large group of demonstrators on the news singing out their jingle
What do we want?
We don’t know!
When do we want it?
Now!
How can I make any sense of that? I wish I did know what they want. Then I would know whether or not I support them.

“A young Texas woman with cerebral palsy was whipped and beaten by her father for downloading games and music — and she stealthily recorded the whole thing, then posted it to YouTube. A major wrinkle is that the girl’s abusive father is allegedly Aransas County Court-At-Law Judge William Adams.
The video is incredibly disturbing, graphic and violent; I only watched a few seconds before shutting it off. It’s safe to click through to the Gawker link, but don’t watch the video if you aren’t prepared to see prolonged and horrific abuse.”

I watched that video earlier today…horrific. Many of the comments at the YouTube site are equally horrific.
Apparently the video was recorded in 2004. The 16 year old is now 23. Not sure why it’s being posted at this time, but I’m glad it is.
The freak father said the beating was not as bad as it looks, and he has nothing to be sorry for because he was disciplining his daughter for stealing (to whit, downloading pirated music).
Apparently he abused his wife as well (no surprise there) and she left him long before this video surfaced.
I’m not sure he will lose his job since it is Texas afterall, and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t a signed, sealed, and delivered member of the good ol’ boiz law and whacked out religious nutcases network.

I saw a brief clip from the video on tv yesterday. The mother was screaming at the girl, “turn over and take it like a woman”. I know that siding with the aggressor is a survival technique but it broke my heart.
DancesWithPumas 11.03.11 at 9:44 am
gojoyknocks,
I think the exact quote was “Turn over and take it like a GROWN woman”.
I couldn’t believe it! Who the heck spanks a grown woman?
At any rate, I’m glad this video has gone viral, although you have to wonder how many girls and women are being abused that we’ll never know about.

Love the “louieville slugger” suggestion. When I was little “he” thought it would be a good idea to teach me how to work on a car. This was mostly me starting the car and reving the engine while he tinkered under the hood. It was really hard not to accidently go to far. I’m glad I didn’t but sure was tempting.

McClatchy: There’s many a gray head in Occupy Wall Street crowd
NEW YORK — Vince Taylor doesn’t fit the stereotype of unkempt twentysomething protesters at the Occupy Wall Street site in Manhattan, which was clear from the homemade canvas sign he held there.
It read: “75 AND DISGUSTED.”
Taylor, a retired economist with a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, flew across the country last Friday from his home in Mendocino, Calif., to join the Occupy Wall Street protest.
“I thought it’s important that people recognize that there are a lot of very thoughtful people in this country that identify with the Occupy Wall Street people,” Taylor said. Like many of his fellow protesters, Taylor said he was concerned with income inequality in America and corporate influence in Congress.

From Luzerne County PA. Today’s news. Other dispicable men.
Key Figure In Kids-For-Cash Scandal To Be Sentenced
Scranton, Lackawanna County – Attorney Robert Powell of Butler Township will be sentenced Friday morning in Federal Court in Scranton. He pleaded guilty in connection with the Kids-For-Cash scandal. Powell was co-owner of the PA Child Care Center in Pittston Township and admitted to paying $770,000 in kickbacks to former Luzerne County Judges Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan. The kickback payments ensured the detention center was built and thrived. Powell pleaded guilty in 2009 to not reporting a crime to the FBI and as an accessory to tax evasion after the fact. Powell was a key witness in the trial of Ciavarella in February of this year. Powell maintained that he was strong armed by the Judges and that he had no choice but to pay up. Powell also admitted he helped launder millions of dollars from the developer of the project, Robert Mericle. Mericle says the money was a “Finders Fee”. Federal investigators say Mericle was unaware of the kids for cash scheme.
Former Judge and current Inmate Ciavarella was found guilty on 12 felony counts and is now serving 28 years in Federal prison. Former Judge and current Inmate Conahan plead guilty to one count and was sentenced to 17-and-a-half years in Federal prison. Powell will be sentenced at 9 am by Judge Edwin Kosik. Legal experts say Powell faces one to two years in prison. Eyewitness News will have live coverage of the Powell sentencing beginning at 5 a.m. Friday.

I just got done talking with a woman who called to request my donation to DCCC. We had quite a talk. I listened, then she listened. She admitted she did not know that Hillary got more votes than Obama, but then steered the conversation toward letting bygones be bygones. I spoke of how terrible Republicans were to Bill Clinton, but that today’s Democrats are worse than those Republicans. Said the Democrats cannot be given the chance to pass more of O’s crappy legislation and big government. So Republicans must be put in temporarily … and from now on DC will have to be watched like a hawk. I wrapped it up with a thank you, hoped she had a nice day. It took her a few moments to reply. I hope she was thinking over all I had just said.

White House Letter to GOP Fires Back At ‘Overbroad’ Subpoena on Solyndra
AP
White House fires off letter scolding House Republicans, saying demand for more Solyndra documents would put an ‘unreasonable burden on the president’s ability to meet his constitutional duties.’
——–
One less campaign trip on taxpayers’ dime, a few rounds of golf, or yet another vacation and I bet the SAS could provide the documents. Did Obama ever posess the ability to meet his constitutional duties??
freddiebrown 11.04.11 at 4:18 pm
I first heard about Solyndra on Fox, way before any other news station even mentioned it. I was literally shocked that it was a week or more of constant mention by Fox station before CNN even mentioned it. I watch both stations every night during dinner just to be fair and balanced. On a daily basis you hear about blatant foolish free handed use of “government money”. When will they realise or care that “government money” comes from THEY THE PEOPLE, aka us that pay taxes ?
I hope they bring these bleeding corporations to task and soon !
Headclunker 11.04.11 at 6:59 pm
freddiebrown #186,
I first came across Solyndra when I was looking at solar technologies. They had a website presence, but did not seem to be doing any business. Looking back, it seems to me they were a big fraud from the get go.
freddiebrown 11.04.11 at 8:08 pm
Headclunker – I knew you were interested in solar as a business and wanted to ask you what you thought about it but didn’t. I love having solar and wish they were more affordable. Now I am limited to motion sensors, yard lights etc.
It is a shame that we invested so much money into a company that quickly went through all the money in such a short time. There is truth in the fact that if it is not your hard earned money, it will soon be squandered – easy come, easy go.

OK – I need some adult supervision and there is no one home for another week. I don’t want to ask friends because I want this to be low key – as in no one needs to know except you anonymous Pumas here.
I need 20 or 30 inexpensive tents…simple to set up BUT must fit a normal sidewalk. I narrowed this on http://www.overstock.com
http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Happy-Camper-2-person-Tent/5967331/product.html
It looks decent. I am not a tent camper and don’t know if tents are all waterproof – it has a rain fly so it should be. Right?
42 inches high x 76 inches wide x 60 inches deep – Would it fit a sidewalk ?
It only comes in one color which makes for difficulty in identifying ones tent. No big deal.
Can someone (or two) please give me your two cents? Soon ? I noticed it says on the shopping cart “Today”. So hopefully it will be the same price tomorrow.

Thanks for the Amazon link…- I didn’t see the review that the one I thought of Leaks ! Every Friday we drive downtown to the waterfront to walk Fred and I have seen an increase in what appears to be recent homeless people. They just don’t look like your average. There are lots of them that line the sidewalks of a certain area in the evenings when they come together to pitch their lean to (with patch up tarps, cardboard etc), some have tents.
It is difficult to see them setting up their beds with roughly pitched up shelters just for a night – to be taken down the next morning.
I thought it would be nice to get some tents for the ones without, so that it is safe from the elements, looks decent so they won’t get chased out of their side walks by police. A two person tent so they have space to put their stuff inside. I think the only criteria is water proof and fits the sidewalk – unless there is something I am not thinking of. It is starting to be rainy season in San Diego. (rained all day two days ago).
I also wonder if the ones with tents already would feel left out if they didn’t get anything. A gift card to a grocery store two blocks away ?
or money ?
I am looking for 30 tents (below $50 – San Diego is pretty mild, only rains in Winter) so I have to be careful to get the right ones. Overstock. com offers free shipping with trail membership

Very considerate and generous of you.
I’d think the one-person tent would take up the least amount of space. They’re narrow as in the width on one large sized person,, maybe 24 inches in height, and are waterproof.
When I do local day trips to Fiesta Island I’m also seeing atypical homeless (whatever “atypical” means in terms of the homeless. Maybe it’s just that theyre newly homeless and don’t have that “out in the elements 24/7″ look?) living out of their cars. I see these same cars and older RVs jockeying for parking spaces in the off-Island parking lot where they aren’t chased for sleeping overnight. Some tend to park along Pacific Coast Highway near the train station since it’s mostly an industrial area and the overpasses provide some shelter.
I’ve also seen people with backpacks coming out of the thick brush areas on the Island. Because they don’t have vehicles they have the best chance of not being caught by the evening police patroling the roads before the road to the island is barricaded.
I feel complete dread when I see women who are homeless. Women are vulnerable enough in the best of circumstances let alone being homeless.
And, yes, I do feel guilty having a stick and brick home and a second home in my RV, while many of these people have neither.

DWP – Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I feel really bad as well and I crane my neck to get a read of what/who is there and I sometimes see women though not in the last weeks. Some guys look really recently homeless and I saw some reading books.
Last year, I was too late getting it but since Fred and I have no adult supervision now, we are going for it before we get Veto’d. It is raining now.
I don’t know how much room is in a one person tent.. cos most of them have stuff that I am sure they don’t want to leave outside the tent. I will look into the one person tents just to see.
P/S: Generosity ? Not. Just doing something within my doing to free my mind from dwelling on it. Couple of times in the evenings, we see a few younger people, handing out bottled water-I’m usually not by myself so I can’t “stop the car, Honey” to ask them any questions ! I asked the Starbucks that we patronise and asked about their left overs. They said someone comes to pick up. One of the managers there is a very nice gay gal. I will ask her – for sure what really happens to the food.
P/S : Don’t feel guilty about your brick & mortar and RV – We’ve all given our blood, sweat & tears to get there. Don’t even think of sharing it with the 99% – just kidding. P/S: One year, I volunteered at Father Joe’s on Thanksgiving day at the (I think) civic center. It was amazing – Meticulous table settings and the speech by I forgot who, was so moving I was crying at the end of it.

——————-
Usually they use a wall and then barricade themselves with their belongings, shopping carts, etc.. Maybe an inexpensive tent and one of those blue tarps for their bulkier stuff and or to use as a rain fly?
I’d think the less bulk they have to schlep around, the more covert, the better. No?
Let me now if you need and assistance, driver, schlepper, human back-up, etc.

Freddiebrown #188 About Solar Energy
I have been dabbling in solar energy, on the side from my day job. One of the things I need to do is to find a solar installer contractor to work with. The first one I met with was one my sister-in-law picked out to do her install. He was a pig. I tried out some of my ideas on him and he got defensive. Not only was he rude and insulting, telling me they did not do “science projects”, he was stupid. They have this solar panel math that justifies installing the cheap stuff. It goes like this: If you have panels that are 14% efficient and compare this to some that are 18% efficient difference is 4%. A residential install usually consists of no more than 40 panels. And 4% of 40 panels is just 1.6 panels. Not worth the extra cost. I swear he presented this to my sister-in-law and she saw nothing wrong with it.
So the next contractor I had contact with, gave me the same story. I pointed out to him that it was the fraction and not the difference, so the difference is more like: 40 panels at 14% is equivalent to 31 panels at 18%. If you are doing a roof install in a hurricane wind zone, it is a big deal. Yea, and he came up with a seriously good proposal, with high efficiency panels.
When I took a look at the state of the art of solar technology, I decided I could do better setting up a lab in my back yard. I still think it is true. Anyway, I am doing better than Solyndra.

I don’t know how Headclunker does all that she does. I have some experience with maintaining databases while updating them. It’s not easy. She also deals with the lower level technological skills I have. Then there are the redesigns which Obama people have forced her to do as I understand it, to keep their updates compatible with what they provided the first time. That was a cheap cheap trick borne of Chicago and maybe even Reverend Wright. Headclunker overcame that obstacle because she has lots of smarts and and a ton of ‘drive,’ & patience.
FECKTeam is just one of her side jobs. She’s a stellar breadwinner who just this year achieved her proper recognition as an engineer. She’s an attentive Mom, as well as an entrepreneur in transition from one business to another. No doubt she manages and maintains the household.
So glad to know daughter is doing well! FEC will come together if it is supposed to.

I hope all is well. I am heading to Marshall, Point Reyes, Inverness this Thanksgiving week – renting a cabin overlooking the ocean. I’ll wave if I’m near Berkeley etc..
I thought I better do some good deeds, just in case I did some bad ones this year – yer never know, better to have some good karma in the bank in case I need an advance.
freddiebrown 11.07.11 at 4:08 pm
OK – I know Billie JO, DWP are tax paying California folks among others.
Now, please be honest and tell me if you got ticked when you read this. It doesn’t matter if it was said by Bill Clinton but just consider the fact that this is what He wants. Is this a Democrats wish list that WE pay for college tuition for illegal immigrants ? I am sorry, but it made me FUME, to hear this crap. I say, our citizens first and if we have left over money, sure, pay for the illegal immigrants. I want some honest opinions. I am not a heartless bitch but just tired of seeing our own citizens as homeless and out of benefits as the next illegal immigrant.
READ THIS on CNN: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/
TRENDING: Clinton praises Perry over immigration
(CNN) – Bill Clinton came to Rick Perry’s defense Monday over a law the Texas governor signed granting in-state college tuition to children of illegal immigrants.
The former two-term Democratic president said it makes his “skin crawl” when Perry’s Republican rivals attack him “for one of the best things he did.”
BillieJo 11.07.11 at 5:04 pm
Freddie
Is this a Democrats wish list that WE pay for college tuition for illegal immigrants?
———
I don’t care if the Big Dawg, Hillary or God said it, I am DEAD set against paying my taxes to pay any illegal college tuition. Perry likes this too, so it isn’t just Dems.
Calif is in the hole partly because of all the freebies given to illegals in our state.
DancesWithPumas 11.07.11 at 6:46 pm
Freddie
I read that this morning. I do not like it. I think children of illegals should at least pay out of state tuition, and I do not believe in giving non-emergency aid to non-citizens. Isn’t one of the #Occupy complaints their debt for education? I’d rather see any excess (ha) monies given to them; or educators; or our homeless and domestic abuse / crisis centers; or given to state workers who are always being threatened with layoffs and or salary cuts. Barring any of the above, repair the damn roads and keep the state parks open.
The children of illegal immigrants need to discuss their needs with the parents who brought them here illegally. That’s their problem, not mine.
The Democrats and the Republicans want the Hispanic vote. Pandering. It’s just that simple.
freddiebrown 11.07.11 at 8:07 pm
Thank you Billie and DWP. I thought I was one Fricking cold hearted Democrat.
I don’t know how Bill Clinton can say this in light of so many cuts in education etc etc. The fact is that states are broke, the fact is the country is broke. Pandering is one thing, but down right Not speaking for us people that voted for THEM is another. I don’t care if you are the 1% that wants to give your money away to the illegals, just don’t give mine away. I want my tax dollars to be for the betterment of all US citizens..
Yes, Perry is for this too so that is why I wish him nothing but the end of the line.
Do you remember that with every tax form you fill in you get to indicate if you want to contribute $1 to the Wildlife fund or some other thing. Well, I think people who want to pay for illegals (medical, education etc etc) ought to have a way to check off that they want x$ deducted from their pay check or x$ contributed to their cause. LEAVE us the F out of this.
You see all these protests from Latino groups against cuts etc.. or against illegal immigration. I would like to see them volunteer 5 Fing bucks out of their pocket every month to support these causes that are so close to their hearts.
freddiebrown 11.07.11 at 8:25 pm
So I hired a young woman (Latino)and pay her under the table ONLY because she discovered she has thyroid cancer (really, I saw the bandages etc and she got radiation so she could not work that week. She was short $110 for her $1,100 rent so I asked her to come in and gave her a big tip. Her new husband (not the father of her two young kids) is out of work as well because they worked for their father (in law) whose construction biz went out of biz. She said their unemployment doesn’t cover all their expenses. Cut this story short
1) I asked why if she was getting paid $18 an hour at her last job, is her
unemployment check so small. Answer: She only reported $8 an hour as her payroll for 11 years !!!!!. Balance was paid to her in cash (its her father in law’s business) So her unemployment check is only based on her last job at $8 an hour. Oh, she said that both her and her husbands unemployment check was reduced by $2oo last month so she may not be able to cover Nov’s rent.
2) I asked her, being Latino and having difficulty getting a job, unemployment getting cut etc etc …is because the state is broke. Many illegals are coming daily and draining the system. How does she feel that as a Latino citizen that money is going toward illegals at their expense. She said he husband doesn’t like it and he wants the illegals to stop coming because there are no jobs. They are taking jobs from him. For me, I rest my case. It is good to give to all the illegals UNTIL you yourself is affected, then it is not good ? Oh, as for her, she said there are a lot of middle eastern illegals, african etc. not just Latinos. Whatever.
FYI, I am an enabler myself. I was going to hire her but she said that if she is on payroll, she will not get Medi-cal and she needs it for her cancer surgery. So bleeding heart that I am, is paying her under the table even tho I don’t really need her – just to help her out, her schedule is very sporadic as she still needs to go to the Dr’s often.
They know how to bleed the system.

Freddiebrown, all charity should be local. What you see is what you can help not to mention cries of help from ones you know and love. I believe this and do this, I like knowing my limited dollars are knowing where those dollars go. Good job on the tents and the woman who needs help. Oh and I bought the mag that showed your bag, NICE!

Is Sunpower the next Solyndra?
Fox News is now sniffing around the $1.2 billion government loan made to Sunpower, that bears a scary resemblance to the Solyndra deal. Sunpower is a more well established corporation, with a premium product. They apparently took the loan and cut some deal with a French company http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/06/15/sunpower-investors-back-total-takeover/
So, what’s the problem? US Taxpayers have made Sunpower a $1.2 billion dollar loan, but YOU cannot buy their solar panels. I had seen them at Solarpanelsonline, but they have become unavailable http://www.solarpanelsonline.org/SunPower-315-watt-Solar-Panel-p/sunpower315.htm. Otherwise, you must get them through their “installers”.

Mississippi abortion vote appears poised for defeat
(Reuters) – An amendment to the state constitution aimed at outlawing abortion in Mississippi appeared headed for defeat on Tuesday, a setback to abortion opponents seeking to overturn the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in the United States.
With 51 percent of the precincts reporting, 59 percent of voters had rejected the measure and 41 percent had voted for it, according to the Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi.

A sperm entering an egg certainly does not = a child.
Perhaps those 41% should concern themselves with ACTUAL CHILDREN that are “destroyed” by abusive homes, are stuck in the foster care system (because no one will step up give them a family and a home), or those that so far below the poverty level they resemble third world children.

DWP – or anyone with an opinion.
I have just received 5 huge boxes with 15 sleeping bags.
Dunno when the tents are arriving.
Question: shall I bring the sleeping bags now or wait till I get
the tents. Those who get tents won’t get sleeping bags ? That way
everyone gets something. Problem is space for me and the biggest problem is if I give them out now, how would I know who got what when the tents arrive ?
Better to wait till I get everything and do it all in one day ? I need to KISS – keep it simple, stupido.
I don’t want to hear it from the man when he sees all these huge boxes in the drive..either. Well, Fred and I will drive out there to see how to deal with this situation before we tackle this. It is supposed to rain Saturday but in So Cal, rain is not too bad but still..
I usually see these folks set up their tents before dark so it would be a good time to see who doesn’t have a tent or sleeping bag or what not. I just don’t want to get into a free for all scuffle. Once we gave out twenties – we were very low key – putting them into Christmas cards and not waving it about.

Women, War & Peace | PBS
War Redefined , the capstone of Women, War & Peace, challenges the conventional wisdom that war and peace are men’s domain through incisive interviews with leading thinkers, Secretaries of State and seasoned survivors of war and peace-making. Interviewees include Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee; Bosnian war crimes investigator Fadila Memisevic; and globalization expert Moisés Naím.
https://www.facebook.com/WomenWarPeace
This, the last segment of a PBS series, was rerun yesterday afternoon. I began watching it because it includes Hillary. I stayed through to the end because I am a woman. And now I suggest you all consider watching it too. All the episodes are available at the FB page above. I am certain you can find them on PBS as well.
I’m not the one to be stating overall themes on anything, but what I got from this viewing is that war world-wide is more than ever about raping women, kidnapping very young boys as soldiers. This destroys the family, the village, and teaches young males to behave very badly.

Net Neutrality means that Internet service providers may not discriminate between different kinds of content and applications online. It guarantees a level playing …
———–
Victory – Net Neutrality
Today the Senate voted down the resolution that would have shuttered the open Internet.
http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/11/11/10/victory-net-neutrality
This outrageous measure would have stripped us of our right to communicate freely online and handed control of the Internet to companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon.
But the public outcry stopped this resolution in its tracks. And thanks to your efforts, not only did we win the vote, but Net Neutrality’s champions in Congress spoke out passionately and persuasively about the importance of the free and open Internet.
:::snip:::
Now that we’ve thwarted this partisan stunt, we can get back to the real priority: strengthening the Federal Communications Commission’s rules to protect all Internet users, whether they access the Web via a home connection or a mobile device.
The FCC’s new rules go into effect on Nov. 20. But these rules fail to protect mobile Internet users from corporate abuse. As more and more of us use phones and tablets to get online, we need to make sure that all Internet users are protected.
In the months to come, the Free Press Action Fund will push the FCC to make its Open Internet rules much stronger — even if that means going to court, where we are suing the agency for failing to protect all Internet users.
Today’s Senate vote is a major victory for the public and sends a resounding message: The American people don’t want companies like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon blocking websites or interfering with our ability to access whatever we want, whenever we want it, from wherever we are.
—————
Saving the Democratic Internet
http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/11/11/09/saving-democratic-internet
Opponents of the open Internet like to portray its guiding rule, Net Neutrality, as “a government takeover of the Internet.”
They argue that from the day of its inception the Internet has existed free of regulation — a perfect expression of the marketplace at work.
What they don’t understand is that the Internet is a far better expression of democracy, and as such needs rules like Net Neutrality to ensure all users have equal access to online content and applications.
And in reality the Internet as we now know it would never have existed were it not for rules and regulation, beginning with the openness standards created by the Internet’s founders some 40 years ago, codified in the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and updated in recent orders by the Federal Communications Commission.

A HISTORY LESSON! Sorry this is long but so are the laughs.
Where did “Piss Poor” come from?
They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot.
And then once it was full it was taken and sold to the tannery…
if you had to do this to survive you were “Piss Poor”.
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn’t even afford to buy a pot…
They “didn’t have a pot to piss in” and were the lowest of the low.
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature
Isn’t just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500′s
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May,
And they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell,
Brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water,
Then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children.
Last of all the babies.
By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it.
Hence the saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the Bath water!”
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath.
It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals
(mice, bugs) lived in the roof.
When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof.
Hence the saying, “It’s raining cats and dogs.”
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house.
This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings
Could mess up your nice clean bed.
Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection.
That’s how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt.
Hence the saying, “Dirt poor.” The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery
In the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on the floor to help keep their footing.
As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door,
It would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way.
Hence: a thresh hold.
(Getting quite an education, aren’t you?)
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire.
Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables
And did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers
In the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day.
Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while.
Hence the rhyme:
“Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old”.
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special.
When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off.
It was a sign of wealth that a man could, “bring home the bacon.”
They would cut off a little to share with guests
And would all sit around and chew the fat.
Those with money had plates made of pewter.
Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death.
This happened most often with tomatoes,
so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status.
Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle,
and guests got the top, or the upper crust.
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky.
The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days.
Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.
They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around
and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up.
Hence the custom; “of holding a wake”.
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people.
So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house, and reuse the grave..
When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive.
So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.
Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be,
“saved by the bell” or was “considered a dead ringer”.
And that’s the truth.

Obama Mistakenly Refers to Hawaii as ‘Asia’ During Summit
November 15, 2011
Nov. 13, 2011: President Obama speaks during his closing press conference at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit near Honolulu, Hawaii.
It’s hard to mistake that Hawaiian scenery.
But President Obama apparently forgot where he was during his press conference Sunday on the outskirts of Honolulu — despite being born there.
The president mistakenly described his location as “Asia” while answering a question about budget cuts.
“When I meet with world leaders, what’s striking — whether it’s in Europe or here in Asia — the kinds of fundamental reforms and changes, both on the revenue side and the public pension side, that other countries are having to make are so much more significant than what we need to do in order to get our books in order,” Obama said

I’m sure they were taking out their frustrations on her because obama wasn’t around.

BTW this is from BBC – not a crackpot site as far as I can tell.

OMG they had yet another “debate”!!! I am so sick of those crazy, misfits and their wars and kill and torture garbage.
They are starting to remind me of a terrorist group, SERIOUSLY!!!

Well I must say I did see and I listened to Jon Huntsman on CNN last night, he seems sane!
I also was impressed with his lamp in the background, I have one just like it, mmm I tried to find him as interesting.

I do have to comment on the site I posted above.
The website states that at 9:11 AM the opening bell was delayed. This is nonsense. The bell doesn’t even ring until 9:30 AM, which it did again this morning. Wall Street has opened for business as usual.
The live stream video on the site is good, but the information is not reliable.
Sorry.

Delle you crackpot you!
Now I know not to believe your TSA links… just kidding. Can’t help it.
You’re a good sport.
Huntsman is nice looking – but I have seen and heard his daughters more than I have seen/heard him. Missed the last few debates.
Newt is very smart and knowledgeable.I would love to see him run circles around Obama in a debate. The others, lacking in one thing or another but hey Obama lacked a whole lot of marbles and he got to be pres. Its that toothy smile and the ability to bull shit plus tell a good fairy tale.

Yep she is!
and… good job Catching the “bell rings 15 minutes late” baloney! The 9:30 AM EST was when the starting bell time was set in 1985. September, I think.
9:30 AM EST – 4:00 PM EST
Ya just can’t take anything you read at face value, even something as simple and verifiable as the nyse starting bell … everyone has an agenda.

DWP – We’re doing the tents and sleeping bags today around 4:30 – dragging Fred’s little red wagon (ya, he has a red wagon !) If you drive by around 14th
Street / G or whatever (towards Freeway 94 E entrance) you may see us.
It gets dark around 5pm and we want to be able to see what we’re doing
and generally be safe. Have not seen the sun today and it feels like it
may rain though it says Sunday.
Thanks for your offer of help. We’ll see what happens and report back later.
