Honora, if you see this…I agree with your crawldad hole comment that this is just like the police brutality during the Republican Convention in NYC. I’ve never been afraid of Boston or DC cops during protests but I’ve more than once been scared in NYC. I was at that convention/protest. Every day the crackdowns were escalated. We were penned in near Times Square and arrest looked imminent and so everyone started writing attorney contact numbers on our forearms in marker. So scary…the next day I skipped the street and went to democracy film showing instead. That was the day they just rounded up citizens wholesale, even passers by, in that orange netting. They dumped everyone in those toxic abandoned bus terminals, even older people who were diabetic and needed medicine. The following days we went down to those terminals to demand their release….was never even covered in the media.

I am just curious…. are folks here against police brutality or are they for the same type of “Arab Spring” me too, protest ?
Below taken from CNN.com
“The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%,” said a statement on the website Occupy Wall Street.
According to statements on the website, the movement, an offshoot of online magazine AdBusters, is angered by what it calls the principle of “profit over and above all else,” which it says has dominated not only America’s economic policies, but also the way in which Americans view culture and humanity.
Posts on the website compare the group’s efforts to those used in pro-democracy movements across the Middle East, dubbed the Arab Spring.
“On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months,” one statement says. “Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants.”
As has become the norm of such protests, this movement has been fueled by social media fire, with supporters taking to Twitter under the hash tag #occupywallstreet. The major hacking group Anonymous has also thrown in its support, live streaming the day’s events.

I was aware of the protest but not following closely..
so I don’t know much about their organization or their cause..
a protest against Wall Street..was okay with me.
but the brutality against these peaceful protesters is freakin unbelievable..seeing women being herded into pens and maced and ones hair being torn out by the roots..horrifies me..
and like Dances said..this was caught on tape…what is happening ..that we won’t see!
They have a right to a peaceful protest…without fear of a monster with badge and a can of mace…he should be put in jail! JMHO
good to see you ((freddie)).

Zee 09.25.11 at 11:43 pm
thanks, PumaRhythm! I never antagonize police but I am extra super careful in NYC whenever I do go!!!
I kind of understand where freddiebrown is coming from. The police brutality is a complete separate issue and I’m so sorry to see it intrude in this case. The reason DC police are more flexible, let’s say, is because they have to be…they constantly deal with protesters, both in tolerance mode and arrest mode.
What is up with NYC? I don’t know. Are we to give them leeway because the city is so massive? I say no. I say they, too, should be better trained and tolerant.
So, yes, freddiebrown, police brutality is a separate issue we all need to unite against.
As far as the occupation goes, I did mention this protest, if people care to check the threads below, as an issue being ignored. So I am “with” them in concept, from the start. I deplore the incidents that caused this to become an issue of police brutality and think it hurts the “cause” — so it’s a win for the police/state, even as they are denounced, if the only media attention they get is police brutality.
I think the media has been ignoring it because if it got the same attention as the “tea party” the ranks would rapidly swell.
However even tho I support the concept, I have huge issues with the rambling, never-ending, unfocused “democracy” end of the movement’s all-encompassing “agenda.”
They have like 300 “points” to make and some (sorry, Murphy) are just current hot Narrative memes, like “Troy, an innocent man was killed!”
What does that have to do with Wall Street? Chalk me up as an elitist in some senses. Whether it’s schooling the kids NOT to be elitist in terms of “rednecks” who are people they need to be shoulder to shoulder with…or whether it’s dictating that they restrict the “ideas” being put forth to the fucking WALL STREET crimes and abuses they’re supposedly occupying Wall Street to address, I can’t be championing a directionless let’s HOPE and let’s CHANGE evvvvvery lassssst 500th thing their hippie.2 fest is including in their “demands” — even as I applaud their impulse to ACTION.
The twitter aspect makes me ill, and I have no idea if one needs a cell phone to twitter, but I do know I could not afford my cell phone this month, so it’s a moot point to me and many.
But the worst thing, worse than mace, is their “let everyone have a say, from Libertarians to Truthers” list of several HUNDRED demands. Please.
I don’t care if I sound like the pigs from Animal Farm saying “some are more equal than others.” It’s a fact that some IDEAS are more equal than others.
If they can’t even agree to restrict their message to the economic crimes alone while they are occupying Wall St, then they might as well be demanding clean water for India and Moms for Mars and ponies and unicorns for all! Kum-baya!
They’re blowing it, but bless their twitter-sized minds for trying, and skewer the pigs for brutalizing kids!!!!! I applaud the start! And we need to kick in with support, for their safety, for the space for them to evolve, and for the threat to be felt in the right quarters!

Here is this morning’s coverage of the demonstration on local TV:
http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/business&id=8367385
Not as many arrests yesterday, but the demonstrators were given notices telling them the park is private property, and camping will not be tolerated.
I didn’t know that Zuccotti Park was private. I don’t know where the protesters will go from there. They will probably try to occupy the streets, which we know will bring more trouble – especially since today is a work day and commuters have to get through.

Maathai: World mourns passing of ‘true African heroine’
World leaders have paid tribute to Nobel Laureate Wangari
Maathai who passed away while having treatment for ovarian cancer on Monday.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu praised Maathai as a true “visionary African woman” and called her a “leading voice on the continent.”
He said: “Professor Maathai introduced the idea of women planting trees in Kenya to reduce poverty and conserve the environment,” in a statement released via his office.
“At last count, the Green Belt Movement she helped to found had assisted women to plant more than 40 million trees. She understood and acted on the inextricable links between poverty, rights and environmental sustainability. One can but marvel at her foresight and the scope of her success. She was a true African heroine,” the statement continued.

From Delle’s link above:
“Derek Shearer, a professor of diplomacy at Occidental College in Los Angeles who served as ambassador to Finland during the Bill Clinton administration, said he did not expect many Democrats to go as far as to support Republicans. But he said that his students, many of whom went door-to-door for Mr. Obama in 2008, might be less likely to volunteer or donate money.
“Hollywood is still enamored of Obama,” he said. “But there is really a lack of enthusiasm for most people.”
Mr. Shearer suggested that to re-energize his base, Mr. Obama might in fact need Mrs. Clinton’s help—as a vice presidential candidate, instead of as Secretary of State.
“That is how he could take the disappointment and turn it in a positive direction,” he said. “If he wants to generate enthusiasm close to the levels of 2008, it would really energize the women’s vote in particular.””

President Obama: ” Take off your bedroom slippers, put on your marching shoes. Shake it off. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. “
Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said this morning that she found President Obama’s comments to the Congressional Black Caucus that they should “stop complaining” to be “a bit curious” and suggested that he would never use such language with other communities.
“I’m not sure exactly who the president was talking to,” the former chair of the CBC said on CBS’ Early Show.

In our last newsletter, we talked about questions we know many of you are thinking about too: what do we do now? How do we make a difference on the issues we care about – and that are so important to our country’s future? With so much at stake in 2012, what is the role of an organization like No Limits, which is bound by its non-partisan, non–political rules?
We’ve heard from many of our members that they intend to put their energies into more partisan contests. We understand that commitment. At a time when congressional action is so often divided by party lines, it’s not possible to write accurately about the issues in Washington without acknowledging party differences – something that we have stayed away from in order to remain non-partisan. So we’ve decided to hold off for a while: cease writing our regular newsletters while we watch developments to see what makes sense for us on the issues that you care about.
To all our friends, members and supporters: THANK YOU, for your ideas, your support, and most of all for your friendship. We’re taking a recess now, but we know we’ll be working together again.
—————————————————————–
I received the above in an e-mail from No Limits, supporters of Hillary. I can not make any sense out of their statement. Any ideas on what is going on?

Way to go Australia! Thank you for protecting this 16 year old girl.
Australian girl goes to court to stop marriage
SYDNEY — A 16-year-old girl has been placed on an airport watchlist in Australia after going to court to prevent her parents sending her to Lebanon for a forced marriage.
The Federal Magistrates’ Court ruled that the parents of the teenager, who cannot be named, could not remove or attempt to remove their daughter from the country to marry the young man she has met only once.
Magistrate Joe Harman also ordered that the parents not assault, molest, harass, threaten or otherwise intimidate the girl or take her out of school.
In his judgement, delivered in April but revealed by Australian press on Friday, Harman said the girl’s application to prevent her parents from sending her away for the marriage was one that was becoming increasingly common.

honora — not surprised….thanks for that link. Delle, too. I’ll have to check them both later.
Good thing I ate a big breakfast because I’m just now sitting down to have a snack since then! Haha…don’t worry, I’ll make up for it tonight.
I’m not protesting, dances et al. It would be too physically grueling for me these days. Especially an occupation. But I am heading down there either tonight or tomorrow morning with food, umbrellas and tarps and whatever else I can think of.
The girls who left my home left behind bagels and bread so I thought, bagels and cream cheese and PBJ sandwiches. I had no cream cheese, so after house was clean and new guy all tucked in I headed to the store. Naturally, while there I also bought more loaves of bread, water, fruit, granola, more sandwich fillings, etc!
According to their site they most need materials to keep the protesters dry and more comfortable. People have been posting that they’re donating pizzas and boxes of hot coffee. I will be able to get them free pizzas, too…and I will also be asking my nearby bakeries for times to pick up muffins, etc before they’re discarded. I’m thinking long-term, because they are camped so close to me…less than 15 minutes during off hours.
I will also be bringing them sign materials….posterboard, markers, etc. I can also print and post fliers. I also heard they need chairs!! So I am keeping an eye peeled for discarded summer folding chairs.
I think that is the best I can do at this time, help in these kinds of ways. I can’t really stay there. If anyone has any ideas as this goes on, please post them.

I know what you mean about songs just hitting you…I loved one I heard on a tv commercial for one of those electronic book readers. Sadly, when I looked it up it was made for the ad only! I was so going to check out the song-writer/artist —-oh well!

HHHow did you find that Zee ?
That is just toooooo good ! Thank you !!!
Now I can do my gig!
I am not too crazy about music – so when I come across one now and then, I must listen to it 50 times.
Thank you for your indulgence and everything.

Continuing my rant re disappointment :
Why would a keyboard warrior listen to, believe, and join in belittling the #occupywallstreet protesters by laughing at them and repeating this type of bs reported by oreilly: (paraphrasing) as I left I was aware of the wafts of pachoulie and marijuana….
??
Why are these protesters referred to as “hippies”. I mean, come on, gimme a break, “hippies”?? lollol can we be any more dated? Or sexist : the women wearing sleeveless t-shirts look like sluts.
Actually I like the majority of commenters over there, including TDO (who I rarely agree with, but she doesn’t tend to roll around on the crap puddles one or two over there seem to try to drag her through. These two seem to be so obsessed with TDO that it’d probably be a good idea to feature a post dedicated to trashing TDO, since, apparently they haven’t anything better to do with their lives. The obsession is so extreme that I’ve come to believe these two are trolls. Have I noted that I rarely agree with TDO? Tia true, but the obsession of the two trashers is worse than anything TDO has to say, and taints the Hill44 blog to the negative.
Ah, done. Sorry. Sometimes I just need to liberate my negative feelings.

Hey, freddiebrown, no problem! Glad you got to enjoy it.
Googling is an art. Sometimes (as in this time) you can type in one line of a song and find it. Other times you have to keep trying different angles.
I will have to improve my online research skills, tho…these days the scope of information you can find is getting more and more narrow. The gates are closing.

Does this sound ominous to anyone?
“On Nov. 9, 2011, at 2 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST), the FCC and FEMA will conduct the first-ever, nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The purpose of the Nov. 9 test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the system as a way to alert the public during nationwide emergencies.”
http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/emergency-alert-system-nationwide-test
I hate being such a skeptic and I don’t want to become a conspiracy nut. But it’s obama’s fault. I find everything and anything he does to be suspicious.
Anyway, mark your calenders for November 9th and get ready for the test.

Footage of the NYC police arresting a child on the Brooklyn Bridge. The girl is calm and is not being treated roughly, but really? Police have nothing better to do than cuff a child for the crime of walking on a bridge?
btw, Occupy Boston has a nice little tent city going on. I dropped off stuff for them this morning, but didn’t stay….there’s nowhere to park! I just stopped in the middle of the road and got out to hand them the bags, ha. One motorist angrily honked at me but there were three mostly empty lanes, he didn’t need mine! A Boston cop finally wandered over and motioned for me to keep moving, but he didn’t even speak. It was like a bored “c’mon lady, you know this is a highway, get back in the car” wave of the hand.
Delle 10.02.11 at 11:21 am
I really don’t know how that happened.(above) Sorry.

Just a quick note and video, to all of those that remained silent when they came for the
LGBT
Muslims
Mormons
etc etc etc
watch this video and decide who exactly they are testing the waters (gently) to target now…sure they use the word “Feminists” and you may not count yourself in that group either, but listen to the whole video and it becomes clear what is really meant is “women”, all women.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFd73eLhTf0
“Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.”
how exactly did we get away from THIS goal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ0DXLm5pd4
AND how the hell do we get back?
{you may now return to your normal “programing”, as for me, I’m going to go find a fricken map}

Hi. {{{ PUMAS }}}
It’s morning on the West Coast. Here are some links to NYC coverage I found last night (and posted at h44 at hillaryis44.org/2011/09/28/chris-christie-or-willard-mitt-romney-the-michael-vick-of-dog-transportation/ ). Some of them may be clickable over there.
We are getting kicked out of our homes. We are forced to choose between groceries and rent. We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution. We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we’re working at all. We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything.

when approached as individuals, members of the NYPD have expressed solidarity with our cause. It has been inspiring to receive this support. Over these thirteen days, we have learned that no one supports corporations’ disproportionate influence in the political sphere. We have learned that no one is in favor of evicting struggling families to the street while banks continue to profit. No one, that is, except the corporations and banks. We urge members of the NYPD to remain in solidarity with our cause. These men and women could lose their pensions and benefits during the next round of budget cuts. We ask that members of the NYPD treat all peaceful human beings with respect and care. This will be a great step towards reclaiming power for the working class. Those who profit off the suffering of others will held accountable. We are the 99%, and we are too big to fail.

Then he let loose and let it all come out. He sympathised with the marchers. He had kids, he was worried about their education. About genetically modified food. About the way America was going.

For those in reach of a protest, one useful item might be a box of CLEAR 55 gal plastic bags. Good for protecting belongings or as raincoats/parkas that cover the head to block pepper spray. Very clear, easy to see through.
Sold as “55 gal drum liners” in “contractor cleanup section”. Out here I found them at Home Depot or Do It Best.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8802223/Occupy-Wall-Street-protests-spread-across-U.S.html
As police arrested hundreds of protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, more demonstrations began to spring up across the U.S.
In Los Angeles, protesters gathered in front of City Hall and danced on buses with “peace” emblazoned on the side.
A smaller protest was held in Chicago’s financial district where protesters held placards demanding “Jobs Not Cuts”.
Protesters also turned out in Denver, gathering downtown before marching into the city chanting, “Occupy the streets.”
All the protests were inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement which has seen hundreds of people camping out near the financial district in New York City and conducting marches calling for an end to home foreclosures and high unemployment.

Ah yes – duck and cover. I am old enough to remember those days very well. Probably most of you just heard about them.
I think there was even a song called Duck & Cover. Helped the kids stay calm as they were sitting under their desks waiting.
Those were the days alright.

Ozero is fried chicken, he is a bucket of deep fried fat, death! on the backs, legs, breast and thighs of America!
Seems the GOP is wanting him to stay saturated in the WH. I can see all the crispy critters running on the GOP ticket are a bucket of, no thank you, can not vote for any one of those batter fried creeps. No wonder Obie thinks he is a shoe in…the die is cast.

I read that book too. I loved it! I still find it amazing that people – like me – get such enjoyment from books and movies that scare them silly.
The movie was good too. I watched it on television recently and it didn’t have the same effect as when I first saw it. But it was still pretty creepy – especially the end. And the message is still relevant.

As for OWS, here’s what they’re actually saying about Obama. Not very nice!
This article posted at the OWS website is very sceptical of Obama (though saying there is some common ground in O’s claims for his tax plan and urging a letterwriting campaign TO Obama).
The article comments are full of negative statements about Obama. I haven’t seen any positives.
https://occupywallst.org/forum/president-obama-and-the-occupy-wall-st-protesters-/
This is NOT about SUPPORTING Obama> This is about USING an opportunity and a common goal to achieve forward movement> IE> Bring corporations down to size
[....]
I mentioned posting on Obama’s Facebook page to tell him that he has proven to NOT be for the people by not responding/helping with this protest.
[....]
Obama’s tax-talk is just talk. Just trying to look like the ‘lesser evil’ but the two-party system is a false paradigm. Ignore the talk, watch what they do, very carefully. I do. Obama appointed about 40 CEO’s/lobbyists to top gov positions, including JP Morgan’s man as his Chief of Staff, Monsanto man to head up USDA, another Monsanto man to head up Food Safety at USDA and despite the fact GE shipped out 200,000 US jobs, Obama appointed GE’s CEO for JobCzar. Obama appointed Feinberg to handle claims for the victims of the Gulf oil disaster but Feinberg’s usual clients include EXXON, DOW, DuPont, Raytheon, Citibank and dozens of other corporations, all just a greedy. It’s no wonder some fishermen have not seen a penny; now they’re broke and sick from the poisonous dispersant.
Obama did not speak up for, or walk, with the workers in Wisconsin like he promised he would, because he doesn’t stand up for regular People at all. Obama went out of his way to protect BP
[....]
Just remember the corporate appointments by this ‘Let them eat poison’ POTUS and I hope you realize it’s best not to waste a minute counting on Obama
[....]
What you fail to realize is Obama is a front man for Wall Street despite his rhetoric. Do your research and you will find that they were the largest contributors to his campaign.
[....]
Obama’s administration is full of Wall Street figures.
WALL STREET OWNS OBAMA. HE’S COMPROMISED.
[....]

I found a parking place today after I dropped off more food and supplies to the Occupy Boston tent city, and went back for a closer look-see.
One of the signs I saw: Obama is not my president.
I will post more later….tired…

Is Wall Street is the answer to all this country’s woes ?
I was posting on a CNN (daily) write up on the protest and one guy said that he was sick of working for all these rich folks ? Really ? Let me see how he likes working for the poor folk. Is there a name for such a thing? Like oxymoron or just moron ?
I don’t want to belittle the folks there, but really, wall street cannot be the answer to what I am not happy about this country. Lets lay the blame squarely where it belongs.
Of course Obama is not my president. He should never be anyone’s president.
Zee 10.04.11 at 1:12 am
You left out Bush and Cheney… Obama is incompetent, but he didn’t CAUSE this problem. We needed another Clinton to clean up after another Bush.
Alas.

OK, if anyone needs to get their blood boiling today, read what an Islamic hell hole part of Russia has turned into:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/09/30/terror-attacks-escalate-against-women-in-bikinis-in-russia-s-dagestan.html
They are bombing women who show up in bikinis at the beach, shooting women with paint guns who wear sleeveless shirts, draping them head to toe….and this is mandated from the top: women are forbidden to enter state buildings, etc.
