Someone went into a contract negotiation room with Olbermann and only one came out!
Karma, baby!!!
Good riddance.

I think, as votermom says, the 2012 presidential election has officially started. Let the games begin!

oops, forgot votermom’s link:

she has original posts at Corrente, one of the ONLY places that seems to have allowed a diversity of voices the past 3+ years. Lambert def does a good job with that.

Besides, they have Plantidote!

LOL dances.

someone on another blog said this might be related to obama hiring the GE ceo to be a top econ advisor and that maybe Immelt’s condition was to axe Olbermann.

5

DancesWithPumas 01.21.11 at 11:22 pm

Someone opined that Olbermannmight be in line to replace Gibbs! Ugh. I hope not.
Olbermann still had two years left on his $30 mil contract.
Sheesh, I’d make myself go all verbal for half that amount! Have heir people call my people!
Anyway, I want to see all of Obama’s cheerleader booted immediately…

Hiya Murphy. :)

Good riddance. That was one nasty talking head. He would be perfect for the BO Campaign. He makes me think of throwing rotten tomatoes.

Now what do you think Mr.Tingle is going to say? I heard he asked his anointed one for his BC. The new Governor of HI said he was going to get that all cleared up, but it does not sound like he had any luck.

Yes, the games have begun. Hardly a word about HCR since the MSM declared she would not be running.

I have been watching the FEC reportings. BO has several funds set up, all $0. The main Obama for America account will be putting out a year end report that I believe is due the end of this month so I do not know how much money is in there. HRC has hers still in place and it will also have to make a year end report.

good one dragonfly. Was listening to Nina Simone’s version of “Here Comes the Sun” and didnt know until now that that was a Beatles song (written by George Harrison).

they were really amazing. Here comes the sun seems like a song like Amazing Grace or Happy Birthday to You, not a song that somebody actually wrote.

Murphy,

I LOVE Nina Simone, as you may have noticed on my fb page because I put up her links now and then. Nina covers several Beatles hits.

By the way, I stopped going to Confluence a long time ago – after Dakinikat got ousted. I liked miq2xu. I don’t know what is going on at that blog, but I don’t like it. You know, I got more than my fill of politics and in-fighting when I worked at large law firms. that’s why I decided to take a huge pay cut – and I don’t miss the six figure salary because I’m just sittin’ here watching the wheels go round and round.

Does this mean he is starting his own blog? I like his quick comebacks, but just recently became somewhat of a regular at TC, so don’t know the history. BCL, I think you’re right about the upcoming election. Ugh…too bad it’s not going to be a quiet one.

But I hope we have someone to vote FOR.

I also read that rumor about Olbermann possibly replacing Gibbs. But mostly there are rumblings about how the Comcast merger caused Ubermann’s outser.

21

BigCatLover 01.22.11 at 10:08 am

Zee
I suspect the merger played a part too because Olberman left too quietly (for him). I think he knew it was futile to fight.

Oh shit not Gingrunch! I suspect Sarah will run to ensure a defeat and easy win for Ozero. GE and the rest of the corporate giants have it all planned out.
I will of course donate and work for Sarah…the independents will decide the vote, I hope. I will take Sarah over ANY male, I voted for McPalin/Cain I will do it again!!! Desperate?! YUP!

Quite a few contributors in these files indicate to the 2008 campaign that they’ve lost their jobs. Wonder how many of them will be impressed with BO’s many, yet unproductive focuses on jobs creation.

33

honora 01.22.11 at 11:17 am

Times are soo weird, that I actually think Gingrich would make a better president than any of the other republicans (sans Palin). He is really smart and plays the republican game, but I do not think that he is really as crazy conservative as the rest of them.

34

honora 01.22.11 at 11:22 am

Also want to say that I am in mourning for the Confluence. I remember how exciting and heartbreaking it was being part of PUMA in the day. It has become a new place that does not seem as welcoming to me. I miss having a place to hang and talk. PUMApac has been quiet as well. I hope that things start heating up and people come here to chat more often. I miss you all.

Dakinikat, nor any of her frontpagers @skydancing were kicked off the confluence blog. Dakinikat front-paged her concerns at TC and stated that she was in the process of deciding whether or not to stay or leave. Obviously she decided to leave and consequently someone who could removed dakinikats body of work.
However,if anyone needs to research any of dakinikat’s articles, she did have100 or backup copies saved. You canfind them skydancing.

I don’t know that RD is on an anti-Palin “kick”…
She could be attempting to maintain her blog as, I assume, was originally intended:

I support that position.

I’m just not into rooting, tooting, tolerating republicans/ rightwingers/ and their ilk.
Never have been. Never will be.

Hillary is as far to the right as I will go.

Didn’t I read a quip at notyoursweety’s blog that a commenter at Democratic Undergrown said the Republican’s will endorse Obama as their Presidential candidate nominee?
Funny yet not, but it makes sense… Mr Ima new kind of Democrat Obama could have given us the short version: I’m a Republican running as a Democrat.

Zee 01.22.11 at 2:30 pm

omg…a must read about Newt. The perspective from his second wife.

http://www.esquire.com/features/newt-gingrich-0910

It’s too bad that his second wife, Marianne, isn’t the one running for office.

Altho she started with him while he was still married, he was already in counseling for divorce, whereas the third wife was more of an actual illicit affair. Newt left both of his wives when they were diagnosed with deadly diseases…the first one with cancer, the second with ms.

I don’t share Marianne’s political views, but she at least comes off as principled, and very human. Newt, like the last THREE presidents, seems to have lacked a father in some fashion (well, the article does mention a stepfather), so that makes me think he has that NEED that apparently drives our recent presidents. His first wife was his *geometry teacher* and they started up together when he was 16! He converted to Catholicism recently, in part to try to “annul” his past marriages!

Pages 2-4 rehash his initial rise so if you’re short on time, skip to page 5 and on. The last pages are must reads about his financial dealings and the pacs he’s formed, which have no limit to the amount of funds that can be given. He was crucial to the rise of Citizens United (back when it was Citizens United Not Timid C.U.N.T.) and made films such as Hillary, the Movie, to undercut her campaign.

Just sayin’—-if anyone’s interested…one week, summertime, expenses paid..and compensation.

Due to the snow storm on Friday, we have extended the casting deadline for the TRADING PLACES Reality Show.

We are looking for the “All-American Family” who would be interested in sending a family member to live with a family in the Middle East for one week in exchange for their counterpart coming to live here.

If cast, shoot will be for one week in the summer and all travel expenses are covered. The chosen family will also be compensated for their time.

If interested in being considered for an interview, please email a family bio and photo to Ashley@bostoncasting.com.

OK, now that I’m late, I’m done reading…but just to correct my misconception, Roger Stone made up Citizens United Not Timid, and Newt asked him to cease and desist…but I still smell foul play. Newt used half the name and made that Hillary movie. I call bs on his not being involved or at least utilizing the Roger Stone name.

and Stone admitted they used the C word because they couldn’t come up with an acrostic using Bitch.

I’m working on an acrostic of my own, using Limp Vermicelli.

It pisses me off no end …. so many men marry women and use them up until the women are in need of their support and assistance… And what do the mutants do? They abandon their spouses!

I’ve noticed at work that the men whose wives are chronically ill tend to be the ones who have been the least respectful of women. The illnesses cannot be the cause of the disrepect because they develop later in the marriage. Often I wonder about the correlation…

48

DancesWithPumas 01.22.11 at 6:10 pm

PS I also make a point, privately, that I admire the way they refer to their wives.
Turns out they wonder too why the other men stay with the spouses they have so little respect for…

file this one under “you are a woman, and you might (I’m not sure, but might) have had a procedural I disagree with, so I will let you bleed to death”
unfrickenbelievable!!
—-

Pharmacist Denies Anti-Bleeding Medication Because Woman Might Have Had an Abortion.

“The pharmacist, suspicious that the woman’s uncontrolled bleeding may have been the result of an abortion, called the nurse practitioner who wrote the prescription to inquire why the patient needed it. When the nurse refused to answer because to do so would violate the patient’s confidentiality, the pharmacist hung up on her and refused to fill the prescription.”

“Essentially, the pharmacist was saying that, while her conscience was just dandy with letting a woman bleed out, it would have a problem saving her life if it was even a possibility that the blood loss was connected to an abortion. The pharmacist’s conscience being so fickle, apparently also prevented her from even referring the woman to a pharmacy who would fill her prescription, leaving her alone, bleeding, and lost.
Someone care to explain to me how this qualifies as pro-life?”

Headclunker 01.23.11 at 10:26 am

54

invalidresponse 01.23.11 at 10:56 am

In my rare to be humble opinion, Walgreens is not the problem. The problem is that a law allows a professional to make judgments against women and allows them to refuse to do their job. The “conscience clause” laws are the problem.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM:
The Idaho Legislature passed a law last year that gives pharmacists and other health care providers the right to refuse to provide any health care service or dispense any drugs that violate their conscience. (the new law only applies to certain “health care services”, i.e., “an abortion, dispensation of an abortifacient drug, human embryonic stem cell research, treatment regimens utilizing human embryonic stem cells, human embryo cloning or end of life treatment and care.” (Id. at § 18-611(1)(f)). In cases involving other forms of care or treatment, the statutory protection in § 18-611 would not apply, and the health care professional would need to comply with other applicable laws and standards when declining or withdrawing from care, including an employer’s internal policies and standards prohibiting patient abandonment.)

In other words, the law allows you to discriminate against women’s health, but say your beliefs do not allow blood transfusion… nope that does not apply.

Discriminatory laws like this should not be allowed the United States. Like it or not abortion is a legal medical procedure in this country, “choosing” to not provide medication to women because you have made judgments against that women is outrageous and should be criminal.

The Columbus Dispatch today’s issue:
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas failed for at least five years to report on his financial disclosures his wife’s income from a conservative policy group, according to the watchdog group Common Cause.
Between 2003 and 2007, Virginia Thomas, a longtime conservative activist, was paid $686.589 by the Heritage foundation, according to Common Cause review of Internal Revenue Service records. Thomas failed to note the income for those years, choosing instead to check a box titled “none” where “spousal income” should have been disclosed.
snip
Federal jusdges are bound by law to disclose the source of spousal income, said Stephen gillers, a law professor at New York univesity Law School.

BigCatLover 01.23.11 at 11:23 am

Since this is a pharmacist by pharmacist decision, go to your local drugstore where you get prescriptions filled, ask the pharmacists on duty if they would deny filling a prescription and for what reasons. If they say specify pro-life reasons, contact the store manager and corporate headquarters and tell them you will not shop at any of their stores that deny women service for whatever reason. This personalizes the corporate response that ‘this is a persona decision by individual pharmacists’ blah, blah. Put the heat on the pharmacist so that the corporation knows they will lose business because of that pharmicist and change the corporate policy of allowing a pharmacist to disciminate.

no less than the great pulseless dick himself, Cheney, has praised Zerobama, for learning that Gitmo and the War on Terror must go on.

This week.

Glen Greenwald over at Salon has the rundown on this, and says Zero has not only continued the Bush Cheney policies, but codified them into law.

It’s all based on the Big Daddy must Keep Americans Safe doctrine. That is, that’s their cover story. We just need to accept that this is our nation’s biggest export…war and weaponry. And the right to spy on and/or kill any American citizen is because Big Daddy knows Best.

I caught several federal judges with interests they did not report on their Financial Disclosure Reports. They are generally expected to revise the report to include the interest, but there are generally no real consequences for the mis-reporting. The Judicial Misconduct process is handled at the Appellate level and all those judges are doing the same kind of things and worse, so the complaints get dismissed. I actually got banned from further filings after making a second complaint.

If they cannot dismiss it any other way, they generally claim that the amount is insufficient to influence them. Codes of conduct are ignored.

Gov. Perry endorses sonogram bill at pro-life rally

Fine with me, if Perry and the anti-abortionists are forced to view the remains of back alley abortions, children living in poverty and a plethora of other conditions, such as women and children living in squalid, oppressive, hopeless conditions who have NO CHOICE over what ‘others’ believe they have a RIGHT do with a woman’s body.

Screw him – and all self-righteous, anti-choice, alleged “Women’ Rights Advocates” who want to “bring us all together” to fight for their own damned “Women’ Rights” agenda.

http://www.wfaa.com/news/politics/Gov-Perry-endorses–114431514.html

Commenters ( 98 % against the bill):

“The bill tricky ricky is referring to is HB325 sponsored by Todd Smith. I am a Christian and for me personally abortion was not an option. That does not mean however that I am to condemn, judge or force my opinions on others. Forcing women to view a sono of their unborn baby when they have decided on abortion is just plain cruel and not right. We should be sick of the government having so much say in our personal lives. Tricky Ricky is just another politician that believes he knows best for all of us. I am here to tell you, he does not know best for me and my family.

“Yeah, so show it to me. Okay. Lump of unwanted flesh. Let’s get on with it doc. What’s next Guv? Ya wanna get Clockwork Orange on me, pin my eyes open and force me to watch a movie produced by the church lobby? Get your stinking laws off my body, leave my guns alone and quit wasting my tax dollars!”

“This is just flat cruel. It is also transparent. This is just a way for the fundamentalist, holier-than-thou, believe-like-I-do-or-you’re-wrong, self-righteous idiots to push their agendas down people’s throats. Why are they so worried about things that don’t concern them? Is their faith so fragile that they have to have the government validate it? And, what is this “pro-life” slogan all about? Just because I am pro-choice doesn’t mean I’m “anti-life.” It may have little to do with what I think of abortion, personally. I just don’t think I have the right to decide on abortion for someone else. Like justiceforjanell said, Perry needs to quit worrying about what goes on between all of Texas women’s legs. Maybe he’s so obsessed with it because nothing is going on between a woman’s legs in his home.”

Republicans say they want Obama to talk about cutting spending in his SOTU speech, but suspect he will talk about investing instead:

In his own preview, Obama told supporters in a video released Saturday that he will focus on economic issues, particularly jobs, as the economic recovery creeps along and unemployment hovers above 9 percent. His references to investing in educating workers and in research and technology set off alarms for Republicans.

“Any time they want to spend, they call it investment, so I think you will hear the president talk about investing a lot Tuesday night,” McConnell said. “We’ll take a look at his recommendations. We always do. But this is not a time to be looking at pumping up government spending in very many areas.”
snip
The second-ranking Senate Democrat, Dick Durbin of Illinois, warned against being “so laser-focused on the deficit that we ignore the obvious” such as education and competitiveness.

Excellent opinion written in the New York Times by Dan Savage, about what LGBT would like to hear in the SOTU speech.

Worth the read @
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/23/opinion/23savage.html?_r=3

But my favorite part, and soooo very true

“Social conservatives long to raise their children in a country where they don’t have to hear about homosexuality every time they turn on the news. I’d like raise my son in a country like that too. And guess what? In countries like Canada — where the fight over gay rights is essentially over, where there is gay marriage, open military service and employment protections — homosexuality hardly ever makes the front pages of newspapers. There’s nothing much to report.

Conservatives can’t get rid of us, but they can hear less from and about us. They just have to bend toward justice.”

While I was driving home and listening to local radio, the talking head said the gov of hawaii promised to get the vaulted copy of obama’s birth certificate released. The Gov was sworn in several days ago and now, as it turns out, no one can find it?
Has anyone else heard this? It seems odd given some republican official in charge of hidden birth certs said he had seen it.

#83 – Here ya go…. Hawaii law bars release of Obama birth info

HONOLULU (AP) — A privacy law that shields birth certificates has prompted Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to abandon efforts to dispel claims that President Barack Obama was born outside Hawaii, his office says.

State Attorney General David Louie told the governor that privacy laws bar him from disclosing an individual’s birth documentation without the person’s consent, Abercrombie spokeswoman Donalyn Dela Cruz said Friday.

“There is nothing more that Gov. Abercrombie can do within the law to produce a document,” said Dela Cruz. “Unfortunately, there are conspirators who will continue to question the citizenship of our president.”

Abercrombie, who was a friend of Obama’s parents and knew him as a child, launched an investigation last month into whether he can release more information about the president’s Aug. 4, 1961 birth. The governor said at the time he was bothered by people who questioned Obama’s birthplace for political reasons.

Fitness guru Jack LaLanne, 96, dies at Calif. home

LOS ANGELES – Jack LaLanne, the fitness guru who inspired television viewers to trim down, eat well and pump iron for decades before diet and exercise became a national obsession, died Sunday. He was 96.

LaLanne died of respiratory failure due to pneumonia Sunday afternoon at his home in Morro Bay on California’s central coast, his longtime agent Rick Hersh said.

LaLanne ate healthy and exercised every day of his life up until the end, Hersh said.

Appellate Court Bounces Rahm
Rahm Emanuel’s residency fight just took a turn for the worse.
The Illinois Appellate Court ruled 2-1 to overturn a Chicago Board of Elections decision to allow Rahm Emanuel on the mayoral ballot. Judges Thomas Hoffman and Shelvin Louise Marie Hall ruled against Emanuel and Justice Bertina Lampkin voted in favor of his inclusion.

Hoffman wrote in today’s ruling: “We … order that the candidate’s name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot from Chicago’s Feb. 22, 2011.”
Emanuel’s Attorney Kevin Forde says “its a surprise.”

Apparently, Zero is unleashing a possible new slogan for his 2012 campaign:

“Win the Future.”

Only problem is that NEWT wrote a book in 2007 called “winning the future” and conservatives already own websites with that slogan.

Who knows whether Zero is doing that on purpose or out of ignorance. But, the link contains a brainscrapingly dull 4 minute preview of the SOTU, where Zero sports a purple tie (that perfectly matches his lips) and spouts RW ideals and ends with a graphic of that slogan.

Lawmakers in States Seek to End Distracted Walking
January 24, 2011- Associated Press
LITTLE ROCK, Ark.

“Lawmakers in at least two states are looking to pull the plug on texting pedestrians and iPod-obsessed runners, claiming their diverted attention borders on disaster.

After targeting drivers who paid more attention to their phone calls and text messages than the road, lawmakers in Arkansas and New York are now looking to crack down on pedestrians equally distracted by their own electronic gadgets.

Lawmakers in both states have proposed restrictions on using cell phones and music players such as iPods by people running and walking on the street or sidewalk. The apparent message: Distracted pedestrians are dangerous.”

… almost as dangerous as distracted lawmakers!

128

BigCatLover 01.24.11 at 9:08 pm

Commenters are Hillaryis44 are taking both sides in the BO is or is not behind the bouncing of Rahm. Some are saying BO did this and others are saying BO will fix this. Braun’s campaign seemed to be lagging way behind Rahm’s but on the other hand wouldn’t BO need Rahm in charge of the city for the 2012 election simply because he is ruthless and could easily do whatever is necessary to give BO the city if not the state. I guess it depends on whether Rahm was kicked out of the WH or just eases out so he could be placed some place where he was needed more.

129

BigCatLover 01.24.11 at 9:14 pm

According to the repubs, Obama is not announcing any cuts in SS or anything, but instead is ‘investing’ in competition, education, etc. This does sound like his usual pronouncements that say nothing.

#136 NYS…

Oh yes, more and more keep realizing their mistake, but leave it to them to lay blame elsewhere and then take themselves out of the game. Exactly as intended by running the corporate puppet.

I just got a CODEPINK mailing….they’re giving Zerobama an “F” in some subjects, but an “A” in oratory. Nice try, but his schlocky spiel never fooled ALL of us.

Still, they did have some actions to do against Zero, and they have been critiquing him from day one, so the “A” in oratory is giving an out to the Obots, not to themselves. You catch more flies with honey…

one of the actions they list are protests against FBI raids the Zero administration has been running against peace activists. Apparently, 9 activists are facing court charges today….the petition has more info:

Obama will be milking the Tucson shootings for all it’s worth at this SOTU:

But there will still be moments of tension — starting with the question of which of the justices will attend. Last year’s incident ignited a debate over whether it’s appropriate for justices to attend such a political event. Alito has said he won’t be coming this year, and Justice Antonin Scalia hasn’t been in a decade. As for the other seven justices, it’s unclear who is planning to show.

There will be emotional highlights as well, especially as many of those touched by the Tucson shootings will be sitting with first lady Michelle Obama in her gallery box in the House chamber. Daniel Hernandez, the intern who helped save Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ life, is expected, as are Dr. Peter Rhee and several other doctors who attended to the victims . The first lady has also invited members of the family of Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old killed in the attack. The president’s speech will no doubt feature another brief but moving tribute to those lost in the shooting and the heroism displayed that day. And that, no doubt, will again win applause from all.
