I see the posts out on the Christmas Plot and agitators right behind it. Why are we playing these games with the Muslim culture/religion? We need to throw the gauntlet down on the whole Muslim world to manage their radical factions. Any Muslim that wants to deny that their religion spawned the 9-11 and other attacks, is in denial about their entire life. We do not have to get down to their level about it, it is time for some tough love.

The choice we are given is to either travel at higher risk to our safety, violate search and seizure rights, or violate civil rights by profiling based on nationality and religion.`They can develop reasonable risk protocols but not without including nationality and religion as well as whether you are willing to be radiated or groped. And gender would also be a factor. Risk management is about reasonable risk, not zero risk.

The problem is that our choice has been taken from us.

Suppose you had a choice about the security level of your flight, but had to qualify yourself?

If we do not find a fair, reasonable way to do this, the terrorists win.

Class action suit. What the TSA is doing is unconstitutional.

14

wontbackdown 11.28.10 at 2:42 pm

Dances:

Right now, there is a case involving ATT awaiting the Supreme Court that puts the impact of “Class Action” suits at the center of ATT’s cause.

Although it does not directly challenge “all” class action suits – Legal Scholars say it the “BIG ONE” on citizen’s rights to bring Class Action suits – because of their potential adverse financial impact on businesses.

“The Game Changer” – on citizens being capable of holding a company accountable for its practices that have adverse impact on the people they employ or serve – is what one scholar called it.

Walmart is also appealing to the Supreme Court – asking fro that very ruling – in its defense agains the Class Action Discrimination suit on Unequal Pay/Promotion – which could involved millions of women and cost Walmart billions – if it is allowed to proceed like the lower courts have have ruled – in favor of the complainants – which is why Walmart has appealed to the SC – “The Adverse Financial Impact of the Class Action” if they lose the case.

Walmart has fought this case for 9 years, I think ($$$$) – rather than settling it long ago and making changes to their employment practices moving forward, as a part of the settlement agreement.

Dances and won’tbackdown,

#14 and 15 – I find it outrageous that we might lose the right to sue corporations for discrimination, price fixing and gouging etc. because it might hurt them financially. The SC would be rewarding them for their unjust and unfair practices if they say we can’t sue them for our protections.

I just can’t wrap my head around this at all. So then we have not right to file class actions because it might hurt the corporations. Is this then just another version of too big to fail?

Headclunker,

#16 – Yes, they are very creepy. They need to understand that they have awoken the sleep giant, the independent voter. These voters are not into conservatism or liberalism. They are into the economy and personal rights.

So all these newly elected politicians need to watch their backs. If they didn’t get the message in Nov they will. We voted you in and we damn well can vote you out again!

Fix the economy or face your own one term. The more people that disinvest from the political parties will wake up these career pols to the fact that they can’t count on us. We are not party players and will vote for who and what is good for us.

“Is this then just another version of too big to fail?”

Something on that order – Globalization “equalization” means working at the privilege of the corporatist powers that be – who decide which “rights” are right for them – and in line with a global workforce and economy – not you.

22

wontbackdown 11.28.10 at 4:46 pm

Goofsmom – Also, imo:

Whether the TSA or the Supreme Court – it appears the trend is to mold America into a much more “manageable” society. Intimidation and suppression of individual rights to fairness, equality and reasonable respect for all “civil” rights – without “exceptions” being made – through the courts is a great “equalizer” between those in power and those who would or could collectively rebel, with a sizable impact.

I have a problem with the “get rid of” part, but am in full support on, if the “gauntlet” is going to be tossed in direction, it be fairly applied to all directions. Not exactly sure what “throw the gauntlet down” would really mean though, and how it could be applied constitutionally with out violating freedom of religion. But I would love to hear the argument.

26

Headclunker 11.28.10 at 7:50 pm

I totally agree with the need for a separation between church and state and that the deterioration of this is a big problem. However, the Muslim issues are more than that.

There is apparently a war going on that our leaders just do not want to deal with. Here is an interesting summary of a few years ago:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/07/islams_global_war_against_chri.html

By “throwing down the gauntlet” I mean that Muslims and their organizations should be held responsible. This is a religion that has declared war. Why are they not getting the same treatment as any other nation or group that has done so? Including restricted travel and immigration and heightened security. Groping and radiating everybody is uncalled for. All the Oblabla administration is doing is shutting down the airline industry.

If there are “peaceful” muslims, not aligned with “radical” muslims, they need to separate and distinguish themselves with more than just talk. Otherwise they are part of the problem.

27

invalidresponse 11.28.10 at 8:03 pm

Headclunker 11.28.10 at 7:50 pm
You could replace Muslim with Christian and your statement and it would be just as true. But of course, no one would dare make that statement about Christians. Freedom of religion either works for all or for none. If it is not for all and just for some, then the state has by definition established a religion, breaking the first amendment.

but this “Who has the Christian world declared war on?”…

If we are going to say that because the 911 terrorist were Muslims, and that constitutes Muslim’s declaring war.

Invalidresponse #31

It goes beyond the 9-11 attack. There are open declarations and continued hostile actions and Jihad.

I cannot agree that the Bush Iraq war was a Christian initiative. It certainly was not done by any Christian Organization. It was a National initiative.

Anyway, is not about the religion, it is about the war and hiding behind religion. We need to decide if we are at war and with who. Muslims need to decide if they are at war and with who. They should not be able to be exempt from that as a religion. I say, tell them to come out from behind their turbans and fight like men. Kick out the radical freaks or be considered at war with America.

And I am not saying we should put all Muslims in camps, but I think that they need to be first in line for groping and radiating until the “war” is settled.

I heard the leader of the efforts to build the Muslim center near ground zero on TV the other night. He said that he felt like somebody had stolen his religion from him on 9-11. He thinks what he is doing is getting it back. I think he is in denial.

Call out Islam on their denial and irresponsibility about their problem.

TT, regarding your response in the thread below…I think we’re on the same wavelength.

My point is the targeting of these lowly list-builders helps no one, because they are not in it for election fraud. They, however they deserve to be punished, are just schlubbs padding the list to get a few more bucks…and the names they pad on never, NEVER, make it to the actual voter rolls.

So, it benefits NO ONE by hyping this fake boogieman because, unlike the caucus fraud, it changes nothing and never even intends to.

Whether or not ACORN was involved with the caucus fraud, I have no idea, because no one, not even Fox, explains that one. The caucus fraud existed, it is documented, but it is lost under this bullshit bogus long-standing fake “election fraud” of putting “Mickey Mouse” on the “voter list” that everyone with any iota of common sense knows is a bunch of hooey.

Therefore, it is on a par with the actual fraud, and is also on a par with any malfeasance by the obots, because it distracts from and discredits the actual fraud.

I will give you that it is much easier to attack others unlike yourself, and fight this “us against them” war, but come on, what does it take to get you to look at the whole picture and see that most of what you rail against is propaganda. You are being lead by the nose to restrict the freedom of others so that your very own freedom can also be taken.

This freedom stuff is tough, if you refuse to acknowledge and defend the rights of those that say and believe things that you would spend your live fighting against, then freedom is dead.

It seems easy for you to say that Muslims are declaring war.. but you refuse to cast the exact same light on Christians. Using the exact same standards. Do you really believe that the Muslim religion is less diverse than the Christian religion… I find that kind of blindness and denial dangerous, to both to this country, and my freedom.

You certainly have the right to hold this hypocritical opinion, and to never look any farther into what actually holds our freedom intact. But please be aware, and forewarned ANY right, freedom, or liberty you choose to take away for anyone else, will eventually be taken from you.

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!” Benjamin Franklin

And THAT is the reason that the war on liberty, waged against us from our own government is the only true fight worth engaging in. Try stepping out of the tunnel vision, and take a look at the entire landscape.

(and just as a disclaimer.. I happen to be a Christian, but my eyes are certainly open wide enough to see that I am not the same as all other Christians. I perhaps am in a space where because I see this about my own religion, I can see this about the Muslim religion. And once you allow yourself to recognize this fact, the Muslim “war” argument no longer holds water.)

Then why did a bunch of radical Muslims fly planes in to the Towers on 911? What do you think a jihad is?

Do you think Muslims should be exempt from airport groping and radiating because of their religion? Where do you come up with the Germany stuff? This is happening right now, today.

And don’t kid yourself about the radiation being harmless. People have different propensities for cancer and radiation exposures are cumulative. There is no way that they can know if they gave someone the dose that “broke the camels back” and gave them cancer. So it is just an issue of how much they are raising the cancer rate to do this.

The groping has mental and physical health issues, too.

No, Dances, who exactly is at war with us may be in question, but it is not a noun. A noun does not throw acid in your face or fly planes into buildings.

invalid and headclunker…

this is an interesting question you all are arguing.

Back in the day…the Japanese Americans were rounded up into camps…horrific mistake.

People called them the “dirty Japs…” What’s interesting is that Germans were also the enemy. Harder to pick them out, but some people today still follow Germanic people with Nazi outlooks….keep tabs on them, that is. The people of Germany themselves have taken a pro-active stance to try to overcome this element in their population, but there are many ex-pat Germans still involved in skinhead movements, etc.

We should call people/s out, including our own…hello…our countrymen are arms dealers. Calling them out doesn’t equate to treating them unequally. I think we should all take our risks. Safety measures should not intrude on our persons. We should deal with actual terrorists, not potential ones. Innocent until proven guilty is the cornerstone of our democracy. For a reason.

I do not think we are talking the same language. A nation that is predominantly Christian does not necessarily represent Christianity. The church and state are supposed to be separate.

The problems with Islam is coming from their religious leaders, not a particular nation. When a religion advocates violence against others, I think their right to freedom of religion becomes questionable.

Freedom is not unconditional.

49

Zee 11.28.10 at 11:45 pm

The world has just gone crazy…Islamic women looking for a religious reason to be exempt from groping, while others in bulky clothing are targeted for extra probing. Women wearing pads targeted, too. All of this versus being exposed by machine…to radiation though the media is more focused on the nudity angle. And, apparently, none of this is keeping us any “safer.” Is it any wonder we’re all mired in the minutia? There are so many issues involved, it’s like the three blind men each one grasping the elephant’s trunk, leg and torso, all arguing what the beast is “like.”

So which of “from their religious leaders” (not to be confused with radical faction leaders) advocates violence against others?

and if by chance you choose to add radical faction leaders in the mix anyway,(again using that same high powered flashlight)

Then we will have to talk about radical faction Christian leaders advocating for the death of doctors who preforming abortions??? Do you still believe that “When a religion advocates violence against others, I think their right to freedom of religion becomes questionable.”

But please let us not keep ignoring the Germans who lived here during the war. They did not exactly have an easy time of it. They were also rounded up:
http://www.foitimes.com/
So, while we all feel sorry for the Japanese, let’s remember the Germans too and spread the sympathy around.
Thanks.

Wal-Mart to pay $2.3 billlion for control of Massmart

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – Wal-Mart (WMT.N) is to pay $2.3 billion for control of Massmart (MSMJ.J), giving the world’s largest retailer a substantial presence in South Africa and paving the way for further expansion across the continent.

Update on Walmart –

“Separately, the Supreme Court took no action Monday in a closely watched Wal-Mart appeal arising from a job-discrimination class-action lawsuit brought on behalf of hundreds of thousands of female workers at the nation’s largest retailer.

Nine sets of business groups and big corporations, including the Chamber of Commerce, have urged the justices to hear Wal-Mart’s appeal. The pending question is not whether Wal-Mart wrongly paid and promoted men more than women, but whether the small group of women who began the case can represent a gigantic class of women.

The justices are scheduled to issue their next set of orders on pending appeals, such as Wal-Mart’s, next Monday.

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange Tells TIME: Hillary Clinton ‘Should Resign’

Obama is toxic.

96

freddiebrown 11.30.10 at 9:36 pm

Headclunker : Here’s an extract that better explains it.
Hillary Clinton, Julian Assange said, “should resign.” Speaking over Skype from an undisclosed location on Tuesday, the WikiLeaks founder was replying to a question by TIME managing editor Richard Stengel over the diplomatic-cable dump that Assange’s organization loosed on the world this past weekend. Stengel had said the U.S. Secretary of State was looking like “the fall guy” in the ensuing controversy, and had asked whether her firing or resignation was an outcome that Assange wanted. “I don’t think it would make much of a difference either way,” Assange said. “But she should resign if it can be shown that she was responsible for ordering U.S. diplomatic figures to engage in espionage in the United Nations, in violation of the international covenants to which the U.S. has signed up. Yes, she should resign over that.”

He is talking trash. “if it can be shown that…” What does that mean?

I cannot imagine Clinton being stupid enough to document ordering US diplomats to engage in such espionage.

99

freddiebrown 11.30.10 at 10:24 pm

Headclunker – Julian Assange of Wikileaks is on Interpols most wanted list that is why the article indicates that he is communicating via Skype and not his mobile phone and is in an un-disclosed location. I don’t think anyone is taking his Hillary comment too seriously.

“Interpol, at the request of a Swedish court looking into alleged sex crimes from earlier this year, has put WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on its most-wanted list.

The Stockholm Criminal Court two weeks ago issued an international arrest warrant for Assange on probable cause, saying he is suspected of rape, sexual molestation and illegal use of force in August incidents. “

Senators Cannot Agree on Fix to the Health Law

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Monday failed to repeal an unpopular element of the health care overhaul even though Democrats and Republicans agreed it needed to be jettisoned to prevent businesses from being saddled with undue tax paperwork.

Under the provision, which was added to the health care law to help pay for it, businesses that spend a cumulative $600 or more with a vendor, supplier or contractor would have to file a 1099 form with the Internal Revenue Service identifying the recipient of the money.

The idea is that the new reporting requirement would increase compliance with tax laws, generating added tax payments that would help pay for new health care coverage. Lawmakers in both parties now say that the provision goes too far and that it would put a burden on companies now exempt from reporting such spending while requiring an expansion of the Internal Revenue Service to keep track of the added paperwork.

Commission’s final deficit report preserves controversial spending cuts

The leaders of President Obama’s fiscal commission released a final report Wednesday that is full of political dynamite, recommending sharp cuts in military spending, a higher retirement age and reforms that could cost the average taxpayer an extra $1,700 a year.

But as commission co-chairmen Erskine Bowles and Alan K. Simpson unveiled the plan at a Capitol Hill hearing, it was unclear whether they would be able to build a convincing bipartisan consensus before the panel’s 18 members – 12 of them sitting lawmakers – are scheduled to vote on the report Friday.

Two panel members – Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) and Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) – immediately came out in strong support, saying that although they don’t like everything in the package, it charts a responsible path away from the abyss of rising debt and potential fiscal crisis.

The plan recommends raising taxes by nearly $1 trillion by 2020, primarily through tax reforms that would eliminate or reduce cherished reductions including the deduction for home mortgage interest; the tax-free treatment of employer-paid health insurance; and preferred rates for capital gains and dividends.
It also calls for a 15-cent hike in the federal gas tax. The top income tax rate for both individuals and corporations would be dramatically lowered, however, from 35 percent to 29 percent or less. And the report recommends a legislative trigger that would raise taxes automatically unless a comprehensive overhaul is approved by 2013.

Future retirees would also face significant sacrifices, including higher Medicare premiums and a retirement age that would rise to 69 by 2075. The early retirement age would rise from 62 to 64.

House May Block Food Safety Bill Over Senate Error

A food safety bill that has burned up precious days of the Senate’s lame-duck session appears headed back to the chamber because Democrats violated a constitutional provision requiring that tax provisions originate in the House.

By pre-empting the House’s tax-writing authority, Senate Democrats appear to have touched off a power struggle with members of their own party in the House. The Senate passed the bill Tuesday, sending it to the House, but House Democrats are expected to use a procedure known as “blue slipping” to block the bill, according to House and Senate GOP aides.

113

BigCatLover 12.01.10 at 4:24 pm

If these debt reducing recommendations are enacted, I guarantee you that the Congress will turn around and spend the additional revenues, be they tea partiers, corporate repubs or Obama dems. They are now trying to fear all citizens into not fighting the increased retirement age, the tax increases, etc. by saying if these are not passed, it will be the end of America (Simpson and Bowles on Neil Cavuto’s show). The only outcome from the changes will be that life is harder (if that’s possible) for middle and lower income Americans. The stampede for Americans minds has begun.

114

BigCatLover 12.01.10 at 4:27 pm

Where are the tax provisions in the so-called food safety bill? They must be hidden in the fine print because no analysis I heard of the bill mentioned taxes (unless the increased funding to the FDA qualifies).

it looks like if your voting strategy in Nov was to split the Congress and end the run away Congress (as mine was), it seems to have worked. Dec 2 (Reuters) – The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday voted to extend Bush-era tax cuts on individual income up to $200,000 a year and $250,000 for families, letting extra cuts for the wealthiest to expire.

Instead of complaining maybe its time for Nancy and Harry and Barrack to skip down the yellow brick road to the Great and Powerful Carville and see if they can beg him to give them all an anatomical refit. Or better yet, just get new leadership, starting with the 2012 Democratic presidential primary.
One thing is certain for now. With Republicans putting Obama in a hammerlock he is almost certain to say ” I give”. And what he will give is the same thing Bush gave. Tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans which will add another $700 billion to the deficit while he ditched the public option which would have cut the deficit by $160 billion and provided accessible healthcare to tens of millions of Americans who dont have it. And one more important thing to remember. Both the House and senate can pass legislation renewing the tax cuts for the middle class and letting the tax cuts for the wealthy expire and there is nothing the Republicans can do about it. Tax legislation can be passed using reconciliation, the same way the Republicans enacted the tax cuts in the first place. That would prevent a Republican filibuster. So dont be fooled by anything less coming from the still Democratically controlled congress. If they dont pass the tax legislation through reconciliation and instead compromise with Republicans, going against their own consciences, you’ll know who to blame and who is at the heart of it.
And why this White House is not so much a ship of state but a Ship of Fools.

Did anyone get this??? even though I am registured “uncommitted”…. Just curious… thanks… hopes it works

Dear Suzanne,

Hillary – as always – said it best.

“You never gave in. You never gave up. And together, we made history.”

Do you remember Hillary’s speech at the Democratic National Convention? It was an historic moment, one that made all of us proud. If you missed the first opportunity to buy a DVD of her speech, you are in luck. We have a few of our special edition 2008 National Democratic Convention DVDs left, and we want to share them with you.

If you contribute $50 or more today to help retire the last bit of Hillary’s campaign debt, we will send you a DVD with Hillary’s historic speech at the 2008 Denver convention, and the inspiring video that introduced her. That’s not all – it also includes President Clinton’s speech and a special message that Hillary recorded just for you. And, for those of you who want something extra special, you can contribute $250 or more and receive one of our special “signature” DVDs hand-signed by Hillary. We only have 50 “signature” DVDs remaining, so act fast if you’d like one for yourself or for a holiday gift!

Contribute today to receive your commemorative DVD.

In her speech, Hillary said, “You allowed me to become part of your lives. And you became part of mine.” As we all know, campaigns are tough, but having loyal supporters like you helped make Hillary’s campaign one that will never be forgotten. By making a contribution today, you will have your own personal memento of the “determination to keep going, often in the face of enormous obstacles.”

Contribute $50 or more today, you’ll receive a DVD copy of Hillary’s and President Clinton’s convention speeches – a unique piece of history.

Hillary would not be where she is today without your constant support, dedication, and friendship over the years. Because of you, we are so close to retiring her campaign debt once and for all — and we will always be proud that we made history together!

Thank you again.

Wall Street is waking up… slowly, but waking up.

The Rise of the Sheconomy

“Everyone knows, or has long suspected, that the purse strings are held by women. It’s oft repeated that they make 85% of the buying decisions or are the chief purchasing officers of their households. The difference today – one that has enormous consequences across global economies – is that women are also the earners. In October 2009, the U.S. workforce became nearly half female: women held 49.9% of all nonfarm labor jobs and 51.5% of high-paying management and professional positions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is not likely to be a blip. For every two guys who graduate from college or get a higher degree, three women do. This is almost the exact opposite of the graduation ratio that existed when the baby boomers entered college.”

Hillary, once again, says she is not running for president:

After her job as SOS she plans to become an advocate for women and children around the world.

Hillary can always say she will run again for a public office BECAUSE she can best serve womwn and children in that government position.
I BELIEVE therefore I think…………..I could change my mind.
I hope she writes a TELL ALL book about the snivilinggitobama! I want to hear all the dirt they have on all the politicians and how they threaten all with dire exposure if they do not tow the party line! Like the dirt they had on each and every one running in the Dem primary with Ofraud. Oh never mind we all know that now. Where is whatshisname, Edwards and Richardson?

Hey Murphy, I am happy to hear all is well in your homestead and that it was just some sort of technical glitch; and imagine Mercury only starts to go retrograde on December 10th and we are experiencing it already. :)

I think the Obot Dimocrats needed a good excuse to abandon the Obama ship while saving face and they found it in their sanctimonious cry of shame on Obama for keeping the Bush tax cuts across the board, which includes the very very rich people.

Also S.o.S. Hillary R. Clinton is saying that she will not run for the Presidency, but her mind can be changed if she is convinced that the country needs her leadeership, then she will step up to the plate….. That is my belief!

Fears Grow That Tax Deal Could Be Torpedoed, As Durbin Says Democrats Could “Walk Out”

Remember we don’t have a deal on taxes yet. We have a “framework” for a tax deal that needs to be scored by the CBO and then, of course, voted on.

And there are definitely fears that the framework could be blown up by angry Democrats.

Remember, the deal was cut between Obama and the GOP, without any real sign that Congressional Democrats played much of a role. So there are egoes to worry about.

Sen. Dick Durbin, who voted for the Deficit Commission’s recommendations, has already said Democrats could “walk out.”

Virginia Senator Mark Warner was on CNBC this morning talking about how he didn’t necessarily want to support the deal unless there were triggers to ensure there would be a focus on deficit reduction.

So watch this. The deal isn’t done yet.

Secretary Napolitano Announces Expansion of “If You See Something, Say Something” Campaign to Walmart Stores Across the Nation

Release Date: December 6, 2010
For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
Contact: 202-282-8010

Washington, D.C. – Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country – launching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

“Homeland security starts with hometown security, and each of us plays a critical role in keeping our country and communities safe,” said Secretary Napolitano. “I applaud Walmart for joining the ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign. This partnership will help millions of shoppers across the nation identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to law enforcement authorities.”

The “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign—originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and funded, in part, by $13 million from DHS’ Transit Security Grant Program—is a simple and effective program to engage the public and key frontline employees to identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to the proper transportation and law enforcement authorities.

More than 230 Walmart stores nationwide launched the “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign today, with a total of 588 Walmart stores in 27 states joining in the coming weeks. A short video message will play at select checkout locations to remind shoppers to contact local law enforcement to report suspicious activity.

HP Boston,

It would be worth watching for the laugh, if the Dems do walk out. I saw the talking heads on Fox the other day discussing the subject. The Repub started by saying that the tax cuts should be maintained across the board because taxpayers in the $250,000 range are frequently small/mid business owners who can create jobs. Then someone countered with a compromise on the cutoff being raised to $1,000,000. Then the Repub got more honest and said that it was a pissing contest over “Class Warefare”.

How much of those incomes over $1,000,000 per year include money from the government stimulus fraud?

They are a bunch of chest-thumping neanderthals who are willing to cut the baby in half to get theirs.

Pigs, just total pigs.

Is anyone watching the Obama press briefing. I can’t believe the garbage that this guy is saying. Either he’s trying to change the message (good luck with that) or he is delusional. He said sometimes you have to negotiate with the hostage takers (repubs) to save the hostage. I about jumped out of my chair. Our terrorist friends will love that. Then he said for 2 years people have accused him of not budging on things like healthcare. He budged on every aspect of health care so it no longer resembled reform. Now he’s talking loud and fast and complaining that he is being criticized. Wow, this is unbelievable,

170

BigCatLover 12.07.10 at 3:00 pm

Meet Navy-NOAA heads killing millions sea animals…
Public meetings about approved Navy 5-year war testing off California coast

Today, Rosalind Peterson reached out to encourage Californians’ participation at two December meetings in which the U.S. Navy and NOAA will address its 5-year Warfare Testing program that includes killing millions of sea animals off the California and Hawaiian coasts. High-tech weapons applied to animals will then be used on humans.

NOAA issued the permit and Letter of Authorization to the Navy, finalized November 12, 2010, part of which is below. It protects no National Marine Sanctuaries, Marine Reserves, Biologically Sensitive Areas and does not stop the Navy from testing new weapons systems (including sonar), during gray whale migrations or salmon migrations.

U.S. Congressman Thompson’s request for the U.S. Navy and NOAA to meet with the public in Mendocino and Humboldt Counties in December 2010 has been accepted.

Peterson writes: “This is to notify everyone that NOAA and the U.S. Navy will be meeting with the public on the issue of the U.S. Navy Warfare Testing activities planned for the NWTRC. U.S. Congressman Thompson has organized these public meetings for residents of both Humboldt & Mendocino Counties. Representatives from Marin County are invited to attend these public events.”

“In the future, these plans can be altered on any date by the U.S. Navy or NOAA placing the information in the U.S. Federal Register. And the Navy does not need to notify anyone, including fishermen or ocean tourists, that these events are underway.”

“The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And, yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human,” she wrote.

“But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful. It isn’t possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say: you know.”

An email from the Hillary Clinton Campaign:

Dear XXXXX,

Thank you again.

profiling based on nationality and religion.`

===================

I agree with the profiling but base it on things more objective than religion. The profile is young males from certain countries: Yemen, Somalia, etc. Religion is just a mark you make on paper, easy to fake.

The real terrorists can conceal their religion if any. Targeting some old grandmother in a veil from a non-enemy country just muddies the waters.

Put down the beverage and scoot away from the computer screen:

The Slum Lord DOG President Strikes Again:

You’ll Never Guess Whose Taxes Are Going To Go Up Because Of The Tax Cut ‘Compromise’

“The New York Times tonight, David Kocieniewski’s got the hard numbers, and finds that the deal is actually a very good one, as long as one or more of the following terms describes you:

–”the highest earners”
–”the wealthiest 1 percent of the population”
–”the wealthiest Americans”
–”hedge fund managers and private equity investors”
–”an individual earning $110,000″
–”4 million taxpayers with income in the mid- to high six figures”
–”Estates over $5 million”

To those of you who fit the descriptions above, congratulations! Really, is anyone not making out like a bandit, with this tax-cut compromise?

In fact, the only groups likely to face a tax increase are those near the bottom of the income scale — individuals who make less than $20,000 and families with earnings below $40,000.

Murmurs of Primary Challenge to Obama
By MATT BAI
That a primary is being discussed reflects how fully the president’s relationship with his party’s liberal activists has ruptured.

WASHINGTON — President Obama’s compromise with Republicans on extending tax cuts for the wealthy, which his self-described progressive critics see as a profound betrayal, is bound to intensify a debate that has been bubbling up on liberal blogs and e-mail lists in recent weeks — whether or not the president who embodied “hope and change” in 2008 should face a primary challenge in 2012.

:::snip::::
Just last weekend, three liberal writers made the case for taking on Mr. Obama in 2012. Michael Lerner, longtime editor of Tikkun magazine, argued in The Washington Post that a primary represented a “real way to save the Obama presidency,” by forcing Mr. Obama to move leftward. Robert Kuttner, co-founder of The American Prospect and one of the party’s most scathing populist voices, issued a similar call on The Huffington Post, suggesting Iowa as the ideal incubator.

On the same site, Clarence B. Jones, a one-time confidant of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., suggested that liberals should break with Mr. Obama now, just as Dr. King and others did with Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. “It is not easy to consider challenging the first African-American to be elected president of the United States,” Mr. Jones wrote. “But, regrettably, I believe the time has come to do this.”

Food for thought on Hillary running for President again:
-snip
Reading Signs

With her public statements so unrevealing, what other signs can we parse to divine Hillary’s intentions? Here are a few to ponder:

* During the recent mid-terms, Bill Clinton made a point of being seen campaigning for every Hillary delegate from 2008. That simply could have been the right thing to do, but it may also have sent a message: Whose team do you want to play on? Whether that means Hillary Clinton ’12, or just the Clintonista candidate, is unclear.

* Evan Bayh has done everything — not seek reelection to his office, raise a ton of money, pull together a campaign team — that one does before running for president. Bayh is a long-time Clintonista. Whether his role is a “rabbit” to let Hillary enter the race later (with VP as the reward), or the actual Clinton Camp candidate, also remains to be seen. If Bayh did not run, that would be noteworthy.

* Why did the HRC 2008 campaign, which still exists as an entity, send an email last week asking for hefty donations to retire her campaign debt? In return, the donor would receive a signed copy ($50 for paper, $250 for DVD) of her 2008 convention speech, in which, as the email reminds us, Hillary spoke of the “determination to keep going, often in the face of enormous obstacles.” The timing is curious. Is this a simple attempt to wipe out that debt by tapping into Hillary love agitated by the recent speculations? Or is a way to take bearings of the level of support?

* A pronounced break with obama on foreign policy, followed by a resignation, would be the strongest indicator of an impending run by Clinton. The State Dept. and White House have spatted frequently, most recently in September over Clinton’s comparison of the drug cartel situation in Mexico to that of Colombia two decades ago, but these differences have been smoothed over so far. A bungling of a flare-up in the Korean situation, however, or the White House dragging its feet on wikileaks, would provide more than sufficient cause for Clinton to break with obama. If she does, stay tuned.

Job Satisfaction

Of course Secretary of State is a job Clinton truly enjoys — dealing with other grown-ups who respect you, making a real impact in crucial global issues, serving as the face of the United States, stand in stark contrast to the pettiness, backstabbing, and general insanity of party politics. Hillary would no doubt enjoy being President, too. It’s the road to the White House that’s unpalatable. But here’s the deal:

1) We need Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee in 2012 — she’s the only one who can run both as a Democrat and against the obama legacy. She fought him in ’08, and by escaping the Senate, she is untainted by obama’s Superfund Site of toxic legislation. Her unique broad-based appeal can also help win back the demographics alienated by the obamalonians;

2) We know Hillary can win the general election. She currently owns the highest approvals of any potential candidate;

3) We know Hillary is eminently suited to fixing the dire condition of the Nation. There may be others, but she has proven her abilities;

4) Hillary knows all this, too.

Whatever her designs, she cannot make a single move so long as obama remains the presumptive nominee. Our first duty as true liberals is to ensure that Barry goes on permanent vacation. Then ask Hillary the question again.

Regarding paying down Hillary’s primary debt –

During the primary, I donated the maximum to Hillary’s campaign. After the primary, I received and e-mail asking if I would like to transfer my donation to Hillary’s 2012 campaign for the Senate? I said “yes” and did. After she left the Senate and became SOS, I never knew what happened to that money.
Did it go back to the primary fund? Does any Puma know?

What Next? A Message from the Kos! Bobot Land is in Meltdown.

XXXX,

A “deal” has been announced to extend all of the Bush tax cuts–including those for millionaires. Some deal.

But the fight isn’t over. Sign the petition–oppose the deal.

In the Senate, Bernie Sanders has promised to filibuster, and Dick Durbin has said “there is a group [of progressives] that may walk.”

In the House, several members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, led by Rep. Peter Welch, have already stated their opposition. The White House is so worried about support for the deal that it is sending Vice President Joe Biden to Capitol Hill to try and sell it.

The bottom line is that this is not a done deal. With the Daily Kos community voting 3-1 in opposition to the deal, we need to show our support for the progressive members of Congress who are not caving. Give them that support now by signing our petition, and sending words of encouragement. We’ll deliver your signatures at the end of the week.

Even Biden is out there saying “this is the deal, take it or leave it.”

But it’s most noteworthy for the picture ….scroll down…. Zero needs a certain someone by his side. Any guesses as to that strong public figure he needs by his side while he’s under attack? And I must say her smile looks….satisfied. Not a smirk, but definitely a cat got the canary look.

Thanks. Lots to sift through. All I could find was that I had donated a total of $25.00 as of Aug. 2008. I had donated $2,300. The money obviously had been shifted to Hillary’s 2012 Senate campaign fund and no longer in the Primary fund. Since Hillary is no longer in the Senate, where did the money go?

My computer crashed a few months ago. I had saved the info on the tranfer, but it was lost in the crash. All I remember is that the e-mails were from Terry McCaulif (sp?). Oh well.

Reading Signs
—————————
I think we are all looking for the slightest sign that she may still run. This may sound silly, but here is my sign. When Chelsea got married in a largely Jewish ceremony, I thought both Hillary and Bill would walk her down the aisle, since that would be totally in keeping with the tone. But she didn’t. It struck me that she might have gotten some flak from ignorami saying she has to usurp her husband, has to be in charge, etc. etc. Assuming these potential jabs entered her mind, I took that as a sign she is still considering running and wants to appear completely traditional and mainstream.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tax_cuts
WASHINGTON – House Democrats voted Thursday to reject President Barack Obama’s tax deal with Republicans in its current form, but it was unclear how significantly the package might need to be changed.

By voice vote in a closed caucus meeting, Democrats passed a resolution saying the tax package should not come to the House floor for consideration as written, even though no formal House bill has been drafted. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., introduced the resolution.

Said Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas: “If it’s take it or leave it, we’ll leave it.”

Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said “it’s a pretty clear message. We don’t like the bill.”

The vote will at least temporarily stall what had seemed to be a grudging Democratic movement toward the tax package. Before the caucus vote took place, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Obama’s tax compromise embodies “the objective we need to reach” even though Democrats dislike several components.

“We’re going to have an increase in taxes on working Americans … if we continue to have gridlock,” Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, said on MSNBC.

But the the voice vote in the caucus was quite lopsided. Rep. Shelley Berkley of Nevada told reporters afterward that “one person voted against it. That would be me.”

Asked what happens next, Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, the No. 3 person in the Democratic leadership, said, “I don’t know. Well wait and see.”

Speaking earlier Thursday at a White House event promoting American exports, Obama said the vote will determine whether the economy “moves forward or backward.”

The president again pressed Congress to pass the agreement, saying it has the potential to create millions of jobs. He said if it fails, Americans would see smaller paychecks and fewer jobs.

But Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., said “the jury is still out” on the measure’s enactment because many Democrats are furious over an estate tax provision.

(more at link)

238

BigCatLover 12.09.10 at 12:52 pm

WASHINGTON – House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer says Democrats have no choice but to fall in line behind the tax cut compromise that President Barack Obama negotiated with congressional Republicans.

Hoyer tells MSNBC in an interview that continuing to fight the deal because it includes cuts for the wealthy would be to put the middle-class and lower tax bracket people at risk and also jeopardize the jobless who badly need unemployment benefits.

The Maryland Democrat said Democrats have enough votes in the House to again pass a measure without tax breaks for the rich, including the estate tax relief, but that there’s a solid wall of 41 Republicans in the Senate who would block it there. He said, “We don’t want to put the nonwealthy in our country at such risk.”

Trying to heal from a broken bone is long and painful, but it’s important to take care of the rest of your body since it can affect the rest of your healh and immune system.
