Have you voted yet? Did the multitudes of unwashed masses show up to vote? What are some of the hot issues in your area? Please report the results for your area as they come in.
From the mundane to the mystifying, voters in 37 states are considering 160 ballot initiatives and referenda that affect everything from prenatal rights and recreational marijuana use to income taxes and courtroom procedures.
In California, for example, a massive campaign revolving around Prop 19, which would legalize recreational marijuana use, has been as much part of the debate as whether voters want Republican Carly Fiorina or incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer as their next senator.
In Rhode Island, voters will decide whether to drop the official name – “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.” Supporters of the referendum say the current name conjures images of slavery.
In Oklahoma, courts could be ordered not to consider Islamic or international law in their rulings. Supporters of the referendum say it will prevent Shariah from being applied in state decisions.
In Alaska, voters will decide whether to add six new legislative districts and to increase the number of legislators from 60 to 66.
In Wisconsin, voters will decide whether they want a constitutional amendment that prohibits their transportation funds from being used for other expenses.
In Florida, voters have the option to expand the homestead property tax exemption for military members, enabling them to pay fewer taxes if deployed away from home.
Ballot measures in Arizona, Colorado and Oklahoma seek to eliminate the new federal mandate to purchase health care.
Arizona also has a proposition to amend the state constitution to ban the use of affirmative action in public sector jobs and contracts.
Besides the questions in Colorado about taxes and spending, the ballot also has a “personhood” amendment, which would change the state constitution to grant citizenship rights at the “beginning of biological development.” Supporters say it will protect the fetus, but opponents say it will limit a woman’s right to choose whether to have an abortion and interfere with other health care options.
In Washington, a battle of the billionaires is unfolding, as the co-founders of Microsoft find themselves on opposite sides of Initiative 1098, which would establish an income tax for wealthier residents.
Apparently fed up with Illinois’ gubernatorial dramas after the imprisonment of former Gov. George Ryan and an ongoing prosecution of former Gov. Rod Balgojevich, the state has a referendum on the ballot to let voters recall the governor. The new rule would require at least 15 percent of the total votes cast for governor in the preceding gubernatorial election and at least 100 signatures from each of at least 25 separate counties, and a recall can’t be proffered until at least six months after a governor has served, among other rules.
This link takes you to a Ballot Measures Database. Select a state and category…
If you don’t intend to vote… please rethink your rationale.

Just got back from voting! There were a lot more women to vote for than I’d expected…I expected to vote for 3 and there were more! Two of them were marked “independent” — so no doubt they got NO media coverage.
OK, off to work….will watch the returns and come back to report on my area….

I arrived at my polling place a couple of hours later than is normal for me so I’m not sure if the number of voters was typical for that hour of the morning. There wasn’t a line and all but one of the 6 voting booths were occupied. There was one electronic voting machine and that remained empty while I was there.
We shall see what we shall see later on this evening.
BigCatLover 11.02.10 at 1:09 pm
Voted at 11 am this morning, pretty much my usual time since I retired. Business was brisk but not heavy. I spread my love around for the first time and voted for some Green Party (governor in Ohio, can’t support Kasich and didn’t want to reelect Strickland), one Libertarian, couple Democrats including Mary Jo Kilroy for the US House and a couple Republicans. In the Judge’s races where you don’t really know much about the candidates, I voted for every woman over men, and the one race where there were 2 women running against each other, I just picked one. Now, we’ll see how the votes fall in Ohio. All our voting machines are still electronic where a paper list of your votes is printed beside the touch screen so you can verify how your vote registers in addition to what appears on the touch screen.

By the way I am still receiving robo calls this afternoon. There are currently 11 calls on my answering maching and I’m sure there’ll not done yet. I hate this.

I voted for women. Where there were two males listed, I wrote my name in and filled in the circle (otherwise it wouldn’t be a valid write-in vote). Voted against IOUs in lieu of tax refunds… duh. Voted to legalize marijuana. Voted in favor of a tax to keep our parks and rec areas open. Others… too foggy to recall right now.
BigCatLover 11.02.10 at 1:52 pm
Megan Kelly on Fox is doing the victory dance before the victory. She is sticking the knife into Obama’s back by reporting that big donors are pressuring Obama to decide if he is running in 2012 within 2 months or they will refuse to fund his campaign should be decide to run at a later time. Don’t know who her source was because I was typing on the pc and only half listening. Will listen for more details and report back if I hear them.

Hello everyone, it’s been a very long time. But with midterms today, I have a feeling my break is over. Time to get ready for 2010~
Are we ready, ladies?!
DancesWithPumas 11.02.10 at 2:23 pm
All obama has to do is say yes, he is going to run for a second term; they commit their money; he decides not to run… he loses nothing.

I voted for Barbara Mikulski and for Martin O’Malley. He is a good governor and supported Hillary even though it was not easy in Maryland due to our large AA population. Voted against my congressman, Sarbanes. He only got the job because his father was our senator and the guy has done nothing since. I am afraid that he has relaxed into his ‘congressman for life’ chair and is coasting. I voted for the republican who must have had a name (but I don’t even know what it is). Sarbanes will win in a landslide, but will have one less vote than he expected.
SheShePUMA 11.02.10 at 2:48 pm
WooHoo, Dances with Pumas.
And I voted for Ted Strickland because he was a huge Hillary supporter. Otherwise, there were a lot of R’s on my ballot. My county is so corrupt. Cuyahoga County Ohio. Ugh. The Dems are shameful.
I want a good Democratic party back.
stoney42 11.02.10 at 3:07 pm
I voted for Nikki Haley for Governer, S.C.
In my Red state, many local candidates had no Democrat challengers. I voted for Joe (you lie) Wilson. Did not vote for Jim DeMint (he voted no for Hillary as S.O.S), skipped that section all together.

**********************************
I must have missed this by Ted Strickland who has been a massive Obama supporter. I didn’t really have alot against him and I support most of his policies over Kasich, but I could not forgive his support of Obama and the Republican decisions he seemed to make as governor. I most defintely don’t want Kasich, as I followed his career for many many years and he is a massive corporate supporter. He spoke at my college graduation where I was valedictorian in the late 70′s and spent 20 minutes railing about the evils of cyclamates. For you younger Pumas, that was an early sugar substitute that was used in diet pop at the time and he was shilling for the sugar industry at a college graduation ceremony. I tried to keep my disgust off my face since I was on the stage with him, but I couldn’t help giving him a look.
HiHat 11.02.10 at 3:23 pm
Voted at about 2:30PM, and turnout was VERY low. Only one other person at my polling place. I live in a heavily Democratic district, and I was only #158 to vote today.
I did not cast any votes on the “Democrat” line, and I will not until the true Democratic Party rises again.
I voted for every woman on my ballot.
freddiebrown 11.02.10 at 3:30 pm
I voted for mostly women. I did an informal polling of (it happened to be older adult )strangers where ever I was.. and almost all said they had voted by 11 am or they will as soon as they got home. Of course I could not help but pitch the one I wanted to win to the people I know.
Can’t wait for the tick tick tick of the clock.. so we find out. I hope the message is loud and clear.
freddiebrown 11.02.10 at 3:36 pm
Obama has too big of an ego not to run. I was watching him live this past Saturday at Connecticut or someplace. It was so disgusting the way he was in full campaign mode – you got to give it to him. He knows how to rally the people. However during his I am King speech, there were hecklers who drowned him out several times and he had to stop and kept saying” Excuse me” a few times. A bit sad for a Bumming President. I thought it was Tea Party or Republicans heckling him but CNN said it was folks who wanted him to give more funding for AIDS research.

In Colorado they are reporting an heavy turn-out. We had a nasty race out hear between the Repub Ken Buck and the incumbent Democrate Mike Bennett. Everyone I know were sick of the constant ads on TV between the two. I voted for the Libetarian candidate, because the poor schmuck didn’t have any TV money to annoy me.
Voted for women for the rest of the races.

I voted about 2PM… Nice steady stream of people, no line but all booths full. No one was using the electronic voting machine. Took in my left over Halloween candy and left it for the workers.
I voted anti incumbent/all women didn’t matter what party, I covered ‘em all! Where there weren’t any women I voted against the incumbent, happily there were only 2 that didn’t have a women running.
Headclunker 11.02.10 at 5:09 pm
I voted in Florida for Alex Sink for Governor and Charlie Crist for the Senate. I would have done the same, BO or no. However, I did take exception to sellout Bobot Ron Klein and voted for his opponent Allen West who I would not otherwise have chosen. And I voted for WOMEN.
I voted for the tax exemption for our military and limits for class sizes. We also had a couple of items on limiting redistricting.
I do not know if it was state wide, but in our county, school was not in session. Get those teachers out to vote!

Ashtiani initially was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery. The Iranian government later said she was also convicted of murdering her husband, but her lawyer and family dispute that.
A letter from Tehran was delivered to the prison in Tabriz where Ashtiani is being held three days ago, Ahadi said, giving the go-ahead for Ashtiani’s execution.
Ashtiani, 43 and a mother of two, drew international attention when she was sentenced to death by stoning. She concedes that she was convicted of adultery, as initially reported, but says she was acquitted of murder. “The man who actually killed my husband was identified and imprisoned, but he is not sentenced to death,” she said in August.

Case of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
November 2, 2010
——————————————————————————–
I am deeply troubled by reports that Iranian authorities are finalizing plans to execute Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani. Iran’s leaders have failed once again to protect the fundamental rights of their own citizens, particularly women. Ms. Ashtiani’s case has not proceeded with the transparency and due process guaranteed under Iranian law, and we are concerned about reports of coerced confessions and other mistreatment. The United States joins the international community in calling for Iran to immediately halt any plans for Ms. Ashtiani’s execution and to handle her case with utmost transparency.

Nothing to talk about
At W.H., the spin doctors hide
President Obama’s team of spokespeople stayed holed up in the White House on Tuesday as Democrats braced for a shellacking at the polls.
The White House says no one from the West Wing plans to spin Tuesday night’s election results, which are likely to confirm forecasts of deep losses to the Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.
Press secretary Robert Gibbs and senior advisers Valerie Jarrett, Melody Barnes and David Axelrod were all absent from network television, and as polls close across the country, they are expected to stay out of the public eye.
According to a spokesman, it is unlikely that administration officials will respond to Tuesday night’s returns until Obama himself addresses them at a 1 p.m. East Room press conference on Wednesday.

If you’re the chairman of a party that loses dozens of House seats, six or more Senate seats and control of one chamber, what do you say? If you’re Tim Kaine, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, you assert that people still want the change they voted for in 2008; they just didn’t think the change happened fast enough.

We tried to tell you. We told you not to screw us over during the 2008 primaries. We told you karma would get you for disenfranchising 18,000,000 of your own voters. We said it wasn’t a good idea to make fun of Tea Partiers even if you don’t like their positions. (for the record, we aren’t and we don’t) We begged you not to yield so much ground to the Republicans on healthcare reform, the stimulus package and the financial reform package. We told you it was the economy and jobs and burdensome fees and taxes and stagnant wages. You wouldn’t listen.
These next two years are going to be very painful for the rest of us. So do us all a favor and STFU about how the Clintons sold all of us working class liberals down the river. We don’t want to hear it.

When I inherited the economy….you can fill in the blanks. In my opinion, still not taking responsibility – only putting his arms around the good stuff.
I would put money even at the end of his 4 years, he would still blame Bush for his own failure.
Middle age female 11.03.10 at 12:54 pm
Oh no, now the “I have a different sounding name” speech.

4 Senate leaders will be on a conference call with reporters asking them questions on c-span.
http://www.c-span.org (listen live)
Apparently c-span had Bill Clinton on earlier but I missed it because I was at the dentist. Caller said Clinton got the meaning of the election, but the caller said he thinks Obama still does not get. 2nd caller saying the same thing.
freddiebrown 11.03.10 at 1:20 pm
Oh Damn… I missed the skinny assed kid who’s black remarks… I must have walked away from my desk… I got headphones on my speaker listening to it.. heehee – but really, WTF…
stoney42 11.03.10 at 1:51 pm
I tried to watch some of the press conference, but had to turn it off. It is the same old stuff. BO just does not get it.

Invalid Response, this one’s for you. John Boehner cries at his speech after the election when he realizes he will be Speaker of the House (starts at about the 5:45 min mark). Doesn’t this tear at your heartstrings? Hehehehe

Oh my – did Oblama just allude to the fact that his “friends” who were voted out are just out “for now”.
Well of course he did, you know redistricting is coming & in the states with left governors, he knows he will pick up many more left reps, who LUV HIM!

Fox News is reporting that Russ Feingold said last night after his defeat ‘now on to 2012 and forward’. Carl Cameron says it’s been speculated for awhile that Feingold will run against Obama from his left in 2012.
Middle age female 11.03.10 at 3:12 pm
How on earth did Alvin Greene get approx 32% of the vote?
BigCatLover 11.03.10 at 3:18 pm
Middle age female
Greene wasn’t an incumbent.
Zee 11.03.10 at 3:21 pm
omg….run, Feingold, run!!!!!
I had Zero on during his “sad” news conference but I couldn’t watch….I repotted my plants, etc, instead, so I had some positive energy going.
Thanks, vwade, others upthread, for all your reports!
I heard a caller on c-span say there were irregularities in CT…
