Are the Boiz concerned about Hillary sneaking up behind them as the Disaster of 2010 looms and 2012 slouches inexorably toward the Cheaters in Chief? The press is needling Gibby about whether Hillary has “given assurances” that she won’t challenge The One for the Dem Primary. Why ask Goofy Gibbs, when you can hear it straight from Hillary? Remember what she said the night they stole the nomination from the voters and from her, in plain sight?
“If you hear the dogs, keep going. If you see the torches in the woods, keep going. If they’re shouting after you, keep going. Don’t ever stop. Keep going. If you want a taste of freedom, keep going. Even in the darkest of moments, ordinary Americans have found the faith to keep going.”
I don’t know about the geniuses who make up the members of the (ahem, cough) press in this country, but I feel pretty confident about what Hillary Clinton’s position is on giving up.
What do you think, Gibby? What do you think, barack? Nancy? Howard? Do YOU think Hillary Clinton gave up and laid down to die in the woods that night? Do you think she decided to “stop going”? Sleep tight at night if you do. But if not, I bet, as I bet you do too, that whatever Hillary Clinton decides to do in the next year or two, she IS coming after you.
She will never, ever stop going.

I just watched a Today Show piece on Chelsea Clinton’s wedding (you caught me). At the end of the story they showed a picture that the Vietnamese government had given Hillary. It was a picture of Hillary and Chelsea in Vietnam in 2000. Lovely story until Ann Curry finished up the piece by saying that Hillary ‘SQUEALED’ when she received the gift. Pigs squeal, Secretaries of State do not. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/38445010#38410317 It is too early in the day to already hate the media, but here I am.

Elton John didn’t mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:
“We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won’t come here. They are (expletive)wits! Let’s face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what’s the (expletive) with these people?”

Good morning ((Pumas)) Did the hate ever end? I think not. It just slowed down because they know Hillary has accomplished more being Secretary of State, than the fraud has done his entire made up career as a politician.
The hate is getting louder now, because of Chelsea’s wedding. Because they are spending their own money and lots of it to make their only daughters wedding the most spectacular event of her lifetime. If I had money I would have done that for my daughter too, if that is what she wanted. They will find anything they can to smear Hillary and Bill, we already know that. What they CAN’T do is stop her ever. Hillary, we still have your back. I for one welcome the fight this time. Because of PUMA we are much stronger than ever, we won’t let them steal another election from Hillary, I for one will go down fighting! I am in stealth mode!!! Already working in the background, gathering up new troops here! I am finding there are a lot of people here that are PUMAS and didn’t even know it! We will be a force to be reconded with this time around!

Ann Curry is the male kissingest, quietly aggressive of all the long history of the Today show hostesses. I say hostesses because the Today show has a long history of taking perfectly competent female co-hosts and turning them into twinkies so they are not a threat to the males on the show. I can name names if someone wants including the current one and I have a long memory. Curry has always attacked the women in the news merciously but I have never seen her do the same to a male. I think that is why she had never been made the main female cohost.

Deportation of illegal immigrants increases under Obama administration
In a bid to remake the enforcement of federal immigration laws, the Obama administration is deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants and auditing hundreds of businesses that blithely hire undocumented workers.

Isn’t that always the way though? When forced to share the platform with minorities or women, don’t the boys always chose the uncle toms, oreos, and anti-women women? And then you have the two-fer solution to quotas where they hire a minority (read: black) woman, and end up with an uncle-tom-woman-hating woman.

Feds demand diversity on Wall Street
A little-noticed section of the Wall Street reform law grants the federal government broad new powers to compel financial firms to hire more women and minorities — an effort at promoting diversity that’s drawing fire from Republicans who say it could lead to de facto hiring quotas.
Deep inside the massive overhaul bill, Congress gives the federal government authority to terminate contracts with any financial firm that fails to ensure the “fair inclusion” of women and minorities, forcing every kind of company from a Wall Street giant to a mom-and-pop law office to account for the composition of its work force.
Employment law experts say the language goes further than any previous attempt by the U.S. government to promote diversity in the financial sector — putting muscle behind federal efforts to help minority- and women-owned firms gain access to billions in federal contracts

Sexist Howard Dean slithers out from under his rock to repeat accusations of… wait for it… raaaaaaaaaacism.
Dean says Fox News racist for Sherrod coverage
Posted: July 26th, 2010 08:32 AM ET
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney
(CNN) – Howard Dean is charging that Fox News was not only irresponsible with their coverage of the Shirley Sherrod story, but downright racist.
Appearing on the network’s Sunday show, the former Democratic National Committee chairman and onetime presidential candidate said Fox should have more thoroughly investigated the edited footage that appeared to portray Sherrod telling an NAACP crowd that she refused to help a farmer because he was white.
“I don’t think you’re a racist,” Dean said to Fox News host Chris Wallace, “but Fox News did something that was absolutely racist. They had an obligation to find out what was really in the clip. They had been pushing a theme of black racism with this phony Black Panther crap and this business and this Sotomayor and all this other stuff.”
Wallace responded that Fox did not air the footage until the USDA had already forced Sherrod to resign. Howard Kurtz, a media critic for the Washington Post and a CNN contributor, has noted this is largely true except for comments from host Bill O’Reilly, who called for Sherrod’s ouster before the USDA official had formally resigned.

Hispanics, white women remain underrepresented in federal offices
A number of demographic groups remain underrepresented in the federal workforce, but agencies are making slight progress in hiring individuals with targeted disabilities, an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission report released on Monday shows.
According to the report, EEOC has documented subtle changes in the composition of the federal workforce during the last decade. Participation of women, Hispanics or Latinos, and Asians increased slightly between fiscal 1999 and fiscal 2009.
But despite the 1onger-term trend, the report shows the participation rate for women was slightly down in fiscal 2009 compared to fiscal 2008, falling from 44.13 percent to 44.06 percent. As of 2009, just under 8 percent of federal workers were Hispanic or Latino, 66 percent were white, 18 percent were black or African-American, 6 percent were Asian, 2 percent were American Indian or Alaska native, 0.3 percent were Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and 0.7 percent were two or more races.
These numbers show women, Hispanics or Latinos, people of two or more races and white women remain underrepresented in the federal government compared to their overall representation in the national civilian labor force according to data from the 2000 census, the report stated.
EEOC’s statistics also indicated some differences in pay and typical seniority across groups. The average grade for permanent and temporary General Schedule employees in fiscal 2009 was 9.9 ($51,869 in annual pay), according to EEOC. Hispanic or Latino employees, black or African-American employees, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander employees, American Indian or Alaska native employees and employees of two or more races all had average grades lower than the governmentwide average.
The average General Schedule grade for women remained at 9.3 ($43,679 annually) in fiscal 2009, more than one grade below the average grade level for men of 10.4 ($49,604 in yearly salary).

I’m mixed about the timing of the wave that’s building for Hillary to run for (and win) the Presidency again.
I’m for the the timing because it gives us, and her, plenty of time to gear up.
I’m against it because it gives the freaks cheats morans and obots, excuse the multiple redundancy there, too much time to tear her down and apart. It gives Ovomit too much time to strategize his future cheating.

Shepard Smith is reporting on Fox tv that Julian Assange says in response to the charge that the Wikileaks documents reveal dozens of names of Afghan operatives, that he submitted the documents to the WH weeks ago and asked them if there was anything they did not want published. He never heard back from them. I’m looking for a link to this claim from another source.
BigCatLover 07.28.10 at 2:28 pm
Jonathon Hunt is having a live chat on Fox website about the WH not responding to the documents from Assange and here is a typical Obama fluffer comment:
[Comment From Serf Serf: ]
The WH could have very good reasons for not responding to the leaker when they were asked if there were some docs they didn’t want leaked. This would indicate to the leaker which docs to highlight when he did release them
BigCatLover 07.28.10 at 2:29 pm

BigCatLover 07.28.10 at 2:31 pm
OK, here’s where the story came originated (from the Hunt live chat):
Jonathan Hunt: That’s what the Wikileaks founder told our own Judge Napolitano. And that’s a very big claim.
BigCatLover 07.28.10 at 2:32 pm
More from the live chat:
Jonathan Hunt: The founder of Wikileaks told Judge Napolitano he presented all the documents to the White House weeks ago and asked them if there was anything they didn’t want published. That flies in the face of what the White House told us – that they only found out htese documents were about to be made public last week from newspapers. So either the Wikileaks founder is not telling the truth or the White House is not telling the truth. Someone has to be wrong here.

Attorney Gloria Allred announced today that she has begun a 90 meal solid food fast to draw attention to the need to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution which would provide a constitutional guarantee of equal rights for women.
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first proposed by Alice Paul in 1923. Although it was previously introduced into Congress, passed by the U.S. Senate and House of Representative and sent to the states in 1972 for ratification, a time limit was placed on the Amendment and ultimately it was not ratified by enough states before the time limit expired in 1979 or within the time later extended by Congress to 1982. (35 states ratified and 3 more were needed.)
The ERA has since been reintroduced into Congress (HJ.Res.61) but is still in the process of gathering co-sponsors.
Ms. Allred’s 90 meal hunger strike fast, in which she will give up solid food for 30 days, will end on August 26, 2010, Women’s Equality Day. That day marks the 90th anniversary of women’s winning the right to vote in the U.S. by the addition of the 19th Amendment suffrage to the U.S. Constitution.

“How absurd. I thought women had equal rights. Who knew. I guess Gloria. I’ve always thought hunger strikes were funny. So are protesters. All just looking for a few minutes on camera. If you really care about an issue, do something REAL about it.”
It’s too bad people can ‘t look past the messenger and hear the message.
WOMEN DON’T HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS! What do women have to do to get that message out?

Wouldn’t it be great to see Chelsea in politics one day soon ? I don’t know if I’ll ever see a woman president in my life time – I sure hope so. Too many are intimidated by strong women. I took a peek at Greta wire and read some comments on Gloria Alred – some pretty nasty comment. Whatever her politics, at least she is doing something public to bring ERA into the forefront.
On another note, does anyone here think the white community would have the gall to publish a magazine that is for all intents and purpose exlusively black and not be called racist ??? It seems Essence readers are bent out of shape because the magazine hired a white fashion director. Reverse racism is really so blatant and everyone is turning a blind eye. Is it the white mans guilt or people just don’t care to fight back ?

The dominant culture in teh US is male, hetero, and white…
I don’t have any problems with classes of the underserved publishing / broadcasting magazines, newspapers, television programming that is geared toward these communities. They serve to make visible otherwise invisible groups… blacks, women, lesbians, etc.
It reminds me of hetero men who complain and campaign to have ‘hetero sexual pride” marches. Unclear on concept. The whole damned culture celebrates hetero society.
On some level it’s amusing, were that it weren’t so sad, that the dominant culture squeals and whines when they believe they are being treated the way theyve treated others forever. If it weren’t for that, it wouldnt be called “reverse” discrimination, it would simply be called “discrimination”.

Former U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Chairman Mary Frances Berry, a long-time prominent liberal activist, has admitted in an interview with Politico that the left is trying to smear the tea party movement as “racist” for strategic reasons, not out of genuine concern that the movement is itself racist.

http://www.newsplex.com/home/headlines/99497354.html
President Barack Obama posed with a Charlottesville woman at a White House event on July 19. What we didn’t know – and what the White House may not have known – is that court records show she’s been found guilty of prescription drug fraud.
Charlottesville resident Leslie Macko was once employed at ACAC in the Albemarle Square Shopping Center. In April 2009, she lost her job as an aesthetician in the spa at ACAC.
President Barack Obama called on Congress last week to extend unemployment insurance. Macko stood next to the President of the United States as his example of the need to extend jobless benefits.
CBS19’s Jessica Jaglois has learned that Macko was found guilty of prescription drug fraud in March 2009, one month before Macko lost her job at ACAC. She served a one year probationary sentence.

That tactic is all they’ve got.
Smear everyone because they don’t have anything else.
They can’t argue in support of his record, they never could. They’re trying to support a done-did-nothing-dud.
Why would anyone defend and campaign someone who hasn’t done anything except continue the bush policies.

Political Operatives on Journolist worked to Shape News Coverage
….and the fallout from Journolist continues. Media continues to ignore.
Yglesias took some pains to couch his advocacy in the language of journalism. Jeff Hauser, a professional political operative, didn’t bother. During key moments in the presidential campaign, Hauser dropped the pretense entirely, becoming nakedly political. In the days before the first McCain-Obama debate, he straightforwardly asked working journalists on the list to skew their coverage in order to help the Democratic candidate:

Why, according to this article, that li’l ole oil spill is just real busy practically just fixing itself:
snip Some of the oil evaporates,” explains Edward Bouwer, professor of environmental engineering at Johns Hopkins University. That’s especially true for the more toxic components of oil, which tend to be very volatile, he says. Jeffrey W. Short, a scientist with the environmental group Oceana, told the New York Times that as much as 40 percent of the oil might have evaporated when it reached the surface. High winds from two recent storms may have speeded the evaporation process. snip
Although there were more than 4,000 boats involved in the skimming operations, those cleanup crews may have only picked up a small percentage of the oil so far. That’s not unusual; in previous oil spills, crews could only scoop up a small amount of oil. “It’s very unusual to get more than 1 or 2 percent,” says Cornell University ecologist Richard Howarth, who worked on the Exxon Valdez spill. Skimming operations will continue in the Gulf for several weeks.
Some of the oil has sunk into the sediments on the ocean floor. Researchers say that’s where the spill could do the most damage. But according to a report in Wednesday’s New York Times, “federal scientists [have determined] the oil [is] primarily sitting in the water column and not on the sea floor.” snip
Perhaps the most important cause of the oil’s disappearance, some researchers suspect, is that the oil has been devoured by microbes. The lesson from past spills is that the lion’s share of the cleanup work is done by nature in the form of oil-eating bacteria and fungi. The microbes break down the hydrocarbons in oil to use as fuel to grow and reproduce. A bit of oil in the water is like a feeding frenzy, causing microbial populations to grow exponentially.
Typically, there are enough microbes in the ocean to consume half of any oil spilled in a month or two, says Howarth. Such microbes have been found in every ocean of the world sampled, from the Arctic to Antarctica. But there are reasons to think that the process may occur more quickly in the Gulf than in other oceans.
snip
The controversial dispersant used to break up the oil as it gushed from the deep-sea well may have helped the microbes do their work. Microbes can more easily consume small drops of oil than big ones. And there is evidence the microbes like to munch on the dispersant as well.

The whole abuse of the Racial issue is so, so sad and but one more abuse of African Americans – as well as our entire social system.
The same is true with the Abuses of Women and Girls – sexism and misogyny are identical in nature to bigotry and prejudice.
The Cause? The CAUSE is the patriarchal constructed, dominate sex, race, and class systems – in all its many layers. The very same structural mores using the racial issue, without regard for more harms being done, perpetuates all of the Abuses of Women and Girls.
As we all had the opportunity to see in this past election, it is one psychopathic system – sick, sick, sick. The symptoms of a carrier are they are too dumb to see it or don’t really give a rat’s a$$.

Good afternoon my PUMA family!! Yes, I have been in stealth mode!!! due to a lot of work, being unable to post, but with a big sign in front of me that says : HILARY CLINTON for President of the United States 2012 !People might think that I am crazy, but I haven’t forgotten 2008 election/fraud ! I still hope that Hillary won’t stop at gettign the position she deserves, but best of all, the position that our country needs. I know that the country was in a very bad shape, but I know that Hillary would have put us in a better position thatn the one we are in now !
I have never stopped hoping that she will run in 2012 !
Now, what do you think of Obama on The View? Imagine for a second that Mr. Bush would have appeared there!! what would the media have published about it? But no, here we have a president that loves teleprompters and cameras, who ran on the promise of change, but has done nothing to change the establishment, on the contrary, we are worse than the way we were a year ago.
I am tired of the racist card being played in the post-election times. Perhaps they need to start playing the race card before a sa dreality: that they are loosing support even from those who were so blind to support them ! I, for once, never trusted them, now I know why !
Hillary must have to be more intelligent and get surrounded by better advisers this time, let’s face it. Hope that we can offer her a helping hand like in the past !

I refuse to defend them – because of their grotesque abuses of the only hope we have for our society – electing true representatives of All of the People by means of an untainted, fiercely defended, fair, equality-oriented election process. I must admit, however, that for years I was clueless, too.
I never had a movement “label” because I didn’t get here by that path. I got here the long and painful way around.
Nevertheless, I was conditioned by that same patriarchal system – and its impenetrable hierarchy – based upon gender, wealth and race – in that order. The only hope for most of us is what compromises we are willing to make to be identified with or accepted within its ranks.
I did not ‘became a PUMA’ because I had always been deeply involved in the political process or knowledgeable about the struggles of Women, as a whole. I had never been either of those.
When I did decide to get involved in the election of Hillary Clinton, the magnitude of abuses of both women and the entire political process was everything that goes on in the most abusive of family systems and politically unlawful, third-world countries.
I became a PUMA because there was nowhere safe to go.
Nowhere, was the history of women, the global scope of what is occurring all over the world regarding the oppression and abuses of women and girls, the political corruption and its impact on our human rights, liberties and freedoms being so candidly revealed. The pictures of non-existent or unraveling democracies and cultural and religious wars were all being so honestly discussed – with a variety of points of view from informed women.
Nowhere, was the scope of the issues involved being laid out each day, after day for people to grasp – or the points made so well about why the “historical race issue” was such a small part of the “precedent” being set in this election, if he prevailed.
Nowhere, was it so accurately predicted that Obama’s history of political corruption, including his corrupt presidential campaign, would be the same tactics he would use in his policy making.
Nowhere, was it laid out in a manner so easily understood than here, as to why Obama’s inexperience would have such a negative socioeconomic impact. The sources and logic were inarguable.
This election was all about the escalation in the seduction of power and political, party corruption and whether we, as a country, would stop it this time; whether we, as women, had finally had enough.
That’s why I became a PUMA. PumaPac was all about informing us of the foreseeable consequences if Obama and his fuchwits prevailed – the ones we are living through everyday now.

Crap that # 93 was loooooooooog. Sorry!!!
But, by the way…
The only thing I have to say about “conservative” and/or Christian women now trying to rally us “secular” gals to their side to elect their new wave of Women candidates…
…being saved by grace to learn how “to be happy in our subservient-to-men roles” hasn’t worked out too well for women, as a whole, either.
…And, as Lesbians don’t count “as real women” among most conservatives and Christian women, there’s no point in enlisting when, after getting them elected is over, they change the locks on the doors to “progress.”

I also discovered a couple of months back that we need to make sure – if it’s an issue – that our own carrier has it documented on the account that no other carrier can activate tracking on your phone on behalf of one of their customers.
I didn’t know that other carriers offer that service – activated by the request of one of their customers – by simply purchasing and/or downloading the app, and providing the other party’s cell number.
How’s that for lack of privacy?!
Having that capability for parents tracking teenagers and other “safety measures” can be hell for abuse victims.

Here it is – and why I say “Texas is just using some of the most aggressive language”
“Texas Republicans recently unveiled a policy platform that includes a statement of support for legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to same-sex couples as well as for an official to perform a marriage ceremony for gay partners wishing to wed.
The 25-page proposal debuted last week as a guiding light for the state GOP over the next two years defines its position by saying:
Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.
The proposal from Republicans in the Lone Star state makes the following claims related to the party’s view of homosexuality:
* “We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases.”
* “Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have beenordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans.”
* “Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.”

BigCatLover 07.29.10 at 6:38 pm
[snip]“No matter how many lawsuits the state loses and no matter what grounds it may lose on, the takeaway for most of the public will be that the federal government is now actually using the courts to prevent enforcement of its own immigration laws. Which means that every legal step, regardless of the outcome, is a political win for border enforcement. Arizona’s law was never going to stop border crossings on its own, but the angrier voters get at seeing the feds side with illegals in court, the greater the pressure will be on Congress to take serious enforcement measures along the entire border — which, of course, is the ideal solution. In fact, sometimes I wonder how many people in the Arizona legislature voted for it for exactly that reason, not because it’ll reduce the illegal population in any dramatic way but because it backs the feds into a corner on border security that they really can’t escape from. As a strategic matter, The One would have been better off letting the statute go into effect and then waiting to see if some high-profile instance of abuse happened which he could exploit politically to get the public back on his side. theamericanway #71 and Delle #73 on the Gulf and Corexit:
I have been over at The Oil Drum blogging with the refinery bunch. I must admit I have been doing some provoking to get them to show their cards on Corexit spraying and Microbe use.
There are no suprises. If you add dispersant to the stream of the leak you can disperse the oil more. But then you cannot skim it so well. Spraying diluted oil is less effective and increases exposures to humans and other living things.
After a month or two, our government got around to prohibiting the spraying from planes and ships, but some of the Drumheads still argue that it is the thing to do.
When asked why they did not spray microbes instead, the answers were outright bizarre. Some said that it was because it had not proved to be effective in the Valdez spill. Others said that bringing in other microbes was like introducing an exotic species to an environment and was too risky. Several referred to microbes were a big fraud, “snake oil”.
The data that they present for the efficacy of dispersant is lab data. However, they will not accept lab data for the efficacy of microbes. That they require field demonstration for. So I gave them some. No reply.
There is an environmentally friendly microbe product on the same EPA registry with Corexit and their website includes field test results from a spill in Japan. http://www.obio.com/allprojects.htm
The Chinese are using microbes on the spill there. http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-News/2010/0723/Oil-eating-bacteria-to-the-China-oil-spill-rescue . Not much news coverage.

I’m trying to catch up. Your news makes sense, but I’m disappointed to hear it. I knew the pressure tests were not adeequate, so of course this makes sense. where is it leaking? in the breached well casing and rock formation?
Headclunker 07.29.10 at 10:17 pm
Dragonfly,
No telling about where it is. The sonar and scans they are doing only go down about 40 feet. I would guess they have a leak in the lower part of the well and leaks out in to the sea bed, perhaps building up, and leaking out in various places. There is very little news, but some people on the Oil Drum report seeing things on the live feeds. WBD had one posted here the other day. I saw it and it looked like oil leaking from the sea floor.
They are planning to do a top and bottom kill. That should do it if anything will. They have to feed enough to fill the well and the leak.
It is past my bedtime and I have had a long week. Those guys better get on it and plug that hell hole.

“I have been over at The Oil Drum blogging with the refinery bunch. I must admit I have been doing some provoking to get them to show their cards on Corexit spraying and Microbe use. ”
HC, I’ve been reading you over there. Flipper would proud
Also, I’ve been catching some glimpses of scientists starting to refute the claims about such a massive volume of oil simply evaporating on its own.
They seem to conclude, as you do, that the oil is concentrated underneath and not yet visible – which means, I think, that conditions will eventually bring it to the surface over time.
On the other hand, if Corexit is that powerful, it stands to reason that we’re in worse trouble over its use than I feared. The food chain has to be compromised beyond safe consumption. There are new reports that they have now confirmed that it’s in crab larvae.
Yet, I’ve heard they have opened certain areas for shrimping again?
Matthew Simmons was right about one thing: ‘This is one big cover-up on what has happened.’ And, that’s one process that they seem to have gotten down to an art form.

omg, if people are interested in this topic, and it is interesting, you can google Obama + calls Africans mongrels, or any such combo, and come up with a zillion thoughtful written text posts.
Sorry, sistermoon, but videos in general annoy me, but this one in particular took so long to get started I was tearing my hair out. If people can’t WRITE up their commentary, they should hang it up. Videos are useful for polling the public or filming things like devastation from tornadoes and tsunamis, and compilations of news clips, but that’s about it, other than funny animal footage or music videos.
Zee 07.30.10 at 4:36 pm
And out of all the countless charges against Zerobama, calling Africans “mongrels” seems like a waste of time to harp on. All of his shit-talk on black families feeding their kids Popeyes for breakfast was far worse…both in terms of cliche and also….chicken is protein, how is it worse than eggs for breakfast???
I have long hesitated when asked my ethnic background on various forms. “Caucasian” seems so purist. I’ve always described myself as a white mutt. It’s not so easy to draw black and white lines. My white friend’s mixed child considers himself “white” and yet, he’s black, by current American standard….but in reality, he’s “biracial” and I have no problem with the terms mutt or mongrel used by one to describe one’s own being. “half-breed” as applied by OTHERS is the hate term.

Headclunker:
Well, I have a curious report from my water sample testing.
I didn’t think I was seeing anything so I stopped putting the glass rainwater collection jars out. And, then we had a couple of days of rain early in the week.
Today, I notice a strange light “stain” in the bottom of my bird bath. I had noticed it when I added water a few days ago, but thought that it was a natural discoloring of the bird bath – which is a light terra cotta.
Today, I was going to wash the bird bath thoroughly and before I did, I curiously swiped my fingers across the “stain” at the bottom. It stuck to my fingers and smeared like it was slightly oily – rather than just wet.
I poured some water in the bath, but the substance just stuck to the bottom – not “liquid” unless I touch it. It’s really kind of weird in its consistency.
It has only a faint, faint odor – hard to describe – slightly sweet, I would say, but even that doesn’t fit the scent of it. I decided to let the bath dry out and see what it was like “dry.” It sticks to the bottom of the bath and doesn’t smear or transfer without slightly scratching it.
It may be pollen, since it is a rusty peach color. But, I’ve seen pollen on things before and it’s more yellow than a rusty peach. I have never seen this in the bird bath before. It definitely has a slight hint of an “oily” feel on my fingers when wet – which again could be pollen, I guess.
I’m going to clean it with a few drops of bleach in the water. No rain is in the forecast so I can compare if it appears with and without, after it rains again.

murphy 07.30.10 at 10:12 pm
Agreed. I didn’t watch the view but I did see a daily caller headline claiming that obama called the black race “mongrel”
puh-leeze!
He did not! He was just trying to state a (true!) fact that the vast majority of African Americans are not of 100% African heritage.
It’s twisting his words in a cynical attempt to change his meaning and it should be beneath anyone to do that.
And lord knows I hate to defend obama!
murphy 07.30.10 at 10:16 pm
And one of the main reasons few African Americans are of 100% African heritage is because of RAMPANT and systemic rape of African slaves and their daughters/grandaughters by white men, so Tucker carlson should just keep his legs crossed and stfu.
Zee 07.30.10 at 11:55 pm
lol, murphy! testify…it irritates the hell out of me to defend Zero for anything, and he HAS made outrageously racist statements about the AA community (the Popeyes for breakfast particularly annoys me).

I get the point Obama was trying to make with his mongrels comment. It was almost an intelligent point. The problem is that the word mongrel itself is unkind. I know what it means literally, but it’s still an unkind way to speak about people. We don’t even refer to our dogs as mongrels, mutts at best. Among humans “mongrel” is a derogatory term that has historically been used to sneer at people of mixed races.

I agree. I find the term very offensive, almost as offensive as “bitch”, but to say he could gave used so many other terms… mixed, bi-racial, multi-racial, is giving lowlife Obama too much credit.
I didnt / don’t watch tv so missed obama’s appearance.
I dint know the context nor tone of his comment. Given obama’s track record I can’t help but wonder if he uses certain terms consciously in order to keep segments of his base smarting and riled.
Swannie 07.31.10 at 10:39 am
Words do carry nuances
From WIKI
Among humans, mongrel and mongrelize are derogatory terms for the mixing of “races”, known as miscegenation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miscegenation
Miscegenation (Latin miscere “to mix” + genus “kind”) is the mixing of different racial groups through marriage, cohabitation, sexual relations, and procreation.[1]
The term “miscegenation” has been used since the nineteenth century to refer to interracial marriage and interracial sex,[1] and more generally to the process of racial admixture, which has taken place since ancient history but has become more global through European colonialism since the Age of Discovery. Historically the term has been used in the context of laws banning interracial marriage and sex, so-called anti-miscegenation laws. It is therefore a loaded and potentially offensive word.[2][3

You mentioned that what you saw was in a bird bath. Perhaps it was from some oiled birds. The levels of concern in rainwater would not likely leave anything of substance as they are volatile also. What I would suggest you monitor the rain water for is pH if you are looking for effects from the Gulf.
Headclunker 07.31.10 at 11:09 am
From the Gulf:
In yesterdays technical update from BP, they indicates that the well cap pressure is still under 7,000 psi and they are preparing alot of mud for the kill in case they have to fill the casing in addition to the well bore to stop the leak. No body is asking about what they will do if that is not adequate. Admiral Allen has staunchly maintains that the pressure observed demonstrated well integrity and they will only need to fill the bore. But it is BP who is being non-commital about just how much integrity is demonstrated. http://bp.concerts.com/gom/audio/techAudio_30072010_3pm.htm
At The Oil Drum, those of us that are not going along with the company line are getting sniped. But here is one interesting comment that came out of a discussion of significant leaks being observed on the live feeds (article is a good read):

impatiens,
“Coordinates of this location were reported to be: 28.73775˚ / -88.4087″
This point plot directly on the escarpment leading to BP’s wells. It is unlikely to have a pipeline and escarpment at the same place.
BP’s macondo wells were drilled pretty close to the escarpment which is an indication of a vertical geological structure – be it a dyke, salt dome or any vertical intrusive. My guess is a salt dome.
If you want more details check out my article on the shallow hazards zone – gas-saturated weak sub-formation (GWSF) zones hazards. With the cap on, the pressurised gas is going to find new pathways – and that could only mean through the faults and other weaknesses in the Quaternary sediments above the rock formation.

You may be right about that – I’ve had a lot of birds these past few weeks.
It may be totally psychosomatic or pollen related but, yesterday after fooling with that quite a bit in fact, due to my “curiousness” – I started feeling like hell as the day wore on. Sistermoon…I know, I need a new computer. My son tells me that all the time. I agree w/ yttik and I think BCL nailed it. The O moron was trying to use folksy language and because he’s a sociopath, he failed. I don’t think his intent was to use the derogatory “mongrel” in order to make a point. I think he was trying to make the same point I was making when I called myself a white “mutt.” It’s just he’s tone deaf as to which term sounds friendlier.

One of the things Obama’s been doing is deliberately trying to increase the percentage of our population that is dependent on government for your living. For example, do you know what was the second biggest demographic group that voted for Obama? Obviously the blacks were the biggest demographic, y’all know what was the second biggest? Unmarried women. 70% of unmarried women voted for Obama. And this is because when you kick your husband out, you’ve got to have Big Brother Government to be your provider. And they know that. They’ve admitted it. And they have all kinds of bills to continue to subsidize illegitimacy…
The Obama administration wants to continue to subsidize this group because they know they are Democratic votes.

::::: stretch …. yawnnnn::::
Whew am I tuckered out!! It was well worth it though!! I must say that was the most magnificent wedding I’ve ever attended, and the reception was lots of fun!
I shared a table with Barbra Streisand and a few other folks. Barbra is great company … She sang a couple of her songs for me without my even asking!!
She even brought up the time we met on 57th and 2nd Avenue where I asked for her autograph! What a memory(iesssss…) she has! I’d completely forgotten about that! I didn’t
forgotten… I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
I had the chance to chat it up with Maddie… That’s what she asked me to call her since Madame Secretary is too formal, and “besides, that’s what all my close friends call me.”
She was interesting, a bit eccentric and not as much fun as Barbra.
Hillary asked me to dance with her acouple of times… it was okay. Chelsea asked as well and I knew I should have but it was late and I was wanting to leave at that point. Oh and the chow was pretty good too!
I was very hungry by the time we were seated for dinner and I was more than happy to get my grub on!
All in all, I’d rate it a 5 on a scale of 1 to 5.
PS I caught the bouquet but I vollied it over to someone else in the crowd

Congressman: too much dispersant used in oil spill
NEW ORLEANS – As BP inched closer to permanently sealing the blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico, congressional investigators railed the company and Coast Guard for part of the cleanup effort, saying too much toxic chemical dispersant was used.
The investigators said the U.S. Coast Guard routinely approved BP requests to use thousands of gallons of chemical a day to break up the oil in the Gulf, despite a federal directive to use the dispersant rarely. The Coast Guard approved 74 waivers over a 48-day period after the Environmental Protection Agency order, according to documents reviewed by the investigators. Only in a small number of cases did the government scale back BP’s request.
Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., released a letter Saturday that said instead of complying with the EPA restriction, “BP often carpet bombed the ocean with these chemicals and the Coast Guard allowed them to do it.”

WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Robert Gates is predicting that only a small number of U.S. forces will come home from Afghanistan when a presidentially mandated withdrawal begins a year from now.
Gates reaffirms that a withdrawal will begin in July 2011. He says he thinks the initial pullout will be modest, and that a large number of U.S. forces will remain in Afghanistan.
The Pentagon chief says the pace of the withdrawal would pick up as security conditions improve.

It will be Corexit that is the undoing of BP. The granting a waiver is not the same as an approval, unless the waiver particularly says so. Any waivers granted to BP for it’s use would be based on BP’s justifications and say so. I do not believe there has been any actual approval for it’s use. Even the EPA list that it is on had a disclaimer. If there is any “blame” to be assigned from the US government’s side, it will be the retired Admiral who will fall on his sword.
I would suspect that they put alot of effort into keeping accurate records of how much Corexit was used. It will make it difficult for BP to understate the amount of oil leaked. There will be an issue of the amount of oil to dispersant levels fed. So the less oil they claim, the higher the relative amount of dispersant will be. In fact, they may had committed to some concentration relative to oil. The a lower limit for the amount of oil leaked is just a matter of math.
Ratfuckers, the lot of them. The Chinese are using oil eating microbes on their spill. There is NOTHING about the results in the news. Most of the articles announcing it’s use came out 12 days ago. I would guess they know something by now.
I hear the silence.

The only thing I take exception to in his article is his failure to include the other side of parental intolerance, scorn and worse:
I have heard too many stories from gay men in my lifetime, of their fathers nearly beating them to death for being “too effeminate”.
I realize he was speaking in context of Anne Rice, as a mother, but this other side of that part of this tragic story should have been told.

The BP Corexit Saga Continues. BP has posted their requests for exemptions for the use of Corexit: http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doctype/2931/57851/
They were pretty regular for thousands of gallons up until July 11th. After that, there is only one on July 19th for 375 gallons of Corexit. This was unusual in that it does not just request approval for an exemption, but it specifically requests approval for use. This is a subtle but important legal point. I do not know how they got that sucker to sign it, but the RF are squirming.
Admiral Allen may have to fall on his sword. But then, he is retired, isn’t he?

… a Bloomberg article showing that while President Obama trumpets an end to “special interest takeovers of our elections,” lobbyists have raised $1.5 million to elect Democrats to the House.
Kristin Jensen and Jonathan D. Salant report: “That was the most of any congressional fundraising committee and almost three times as much as the House Republican campaign committee took in from lobbyists.
“While Obama criticizes the influence held by lobbyists in Washington, candidates rely on them to help fund increasingly expensive campaigns. Reports released yesterday show lobbyists also personally contributed to Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. …
“Much of the DCCC’s bundling haul came from Brian Wolff, senior vice president at Washington’s Edison Electric Institute, a trade group for electric companies. Wolff, a former political director for Pelosi and executive director at the DCCC, brought in $716,300 in the first half, the FEC report shows. Wolff was traveling and wasn’t available for comment.” DCCC spokesman Ryan Rudominer told the wire service that Wolff “is someone who has a long history in working in elections and is dedicated to keeping a strong majority.”

US appeals court: Pa. prison can ban Muslim scarf
PHILADELPHIA — Prison officials can ban employees from wearing religious headscarves out of concerns they pose a safety risk, a U.S. appeals court in Philadelphia ruled Monday in a split 2-1 decision.
Prison officials have legitimate concerns the headscarves can hide drugs or other contraband, or be used by an inmate to strangle someone, the majority said.
The ruling dismisses a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of three Muslim women employed at the Delaware County Prison in suburban Thornton. The EEOC had said they were being forced to compromise their religious beliefs to keep their jobs.

The BPRF are setting up for another attempt to kill the beast they unleashed on us. This is another version of the Top Kill. They are calling it a static kill to distinguish it from their first attempt to pump kill mud against the flowing oil. Now they will slowly try to pump mud through the existing cap into the well. The goal is to get the mud to pump through the well all the way to the reservoir of oil under the sea bed.
They are calling it a test. If it fails they will need the relief well to plug the main well. I just hope they do not blow themselves up again. Do you suppose they will have the gas detectors turned on this time?
goofsmom 08.02.10 at 6:59 pm

One can only cross their fingers. It’s still 50/50, also if they pump the concrete mud in and it’s still leaking, won’t they have to drill thru the mud then?

Maybe 90 days of rehab will do Lindsay some good, but in America the individual should get to choose. She had not driven after her DWI and her sentence was crazy. (Note the guy that had numerous DWI’s in Virginia, nothing was done to him and he kept driving and this morning killed a Catholic sister on the way to a religious retreat. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/01/AR2010080103169.html ) The inequality of sentences drives me insane. Bill seeks action to curb brutality against women globally
WASHINGTON — Bipartisan legislation that would mandate a comprehensive plan to combat violence against women worldwide is poised for a potential congressional vote, marking tough new action by the United States on a problem that’s commonplace across the globe.
Among other things, the bill would increase U.S. aid to 20 nations that take concrete action to curb brutality against women.
One of the original sponsors of the House of Representatives’ version, Rep. Bill Delahunt , D- Mass. , has said that passing the bill is an important step toward protecting women worldwide and advancing U.S. security interests.

Yes; I checked yesterday to confirm, and join you in your wishes for Candice. I do not recall when she actually began the work for her campaign, but it was a long time ago, and she has marched on with conviction and perserverance. No matter how it turns out, she has advanced our quest for greater participation in government by women. Thank you, Candice Britton!!!!!

Good morning Pumas. I just wanted to wish Candice good luck today, and say a quick hello. I am at work and in lurking mode. Long long days here. I am here open to close

You mean DK Jaamal? He’s in multiple Examiners….Boston, CT, and if you say one place in California, I’m sure in multiple more.
He’s a plant, faux grassroots. He claims to have invented PUMA. But he has been around that long, and many of his pieces are amusing. For all we know he’s just a face they put on a group effort. Many groups have viewed the splintering off of PUMAs from Party Unity as fertile feeding grounds for their own agendas.

Dances…actually, he claims to be a “co-founder” so maybe he means one of the earliest PUMAs…and I do remember him from way back in the day. So, altho I still think he’s a plant, he was one of the early adopters of the term, anyway. And apparently he does live in Southern CA in a coastal bungalo, surrounded by surfers and musicians, so maybe you Southern PUMAs can have him host a get-together! lololol (his bio below)
D.K. Jamaal is an educator, entertainer, and co-founder of the PUMA (Party Unity My A–!) political movement. He was born in Savannah, GA the son of a public school principal and a military vet. He was an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Scholar and a Warner Brothers Fellow in Cinema-Television Critical Studies and Screenwriting at the University of Southern California. Formerly a script analyst for Warner Brothers and a volunteer for several political campaigns, he currently pals around with surfers, teachers, and musicians, residing in a bungalow on the California coast.

Regarding the side comments on Hillary. There are those who follow and denounce the actions of the Elites and their milking of humanity, and the empire-building going on in our country and its relationship with the rest of the world. It is inevitable that the Clintons, both of them, must live in and balance both worlds. These purists have long denigrated the Clintons for trying to ameliorate the bad instead of outright oppose it. They screech about how awful Clinton was for DADT, when in fact it was a baby step, a small first step that can only be judged as a first step taken during the time it was taken.
Likewise, Hillary is working for the Obama administration. Any policy has to be laid at his feet. Hillary is like the fairy godmother who stepped out after the evil one sentenced Sleeping Beauty to death: she can’t undo the spell, only ameliorate it to a temporary sleeping-death instead of a permanent one. I, for one, am glad she is in place to do what measure of good she can manage in these intolerable times.

This is too funny…I love Historiann’s posts on women, but she’s been spotlighting a Dem primary in Colorado that I’m guessing is a local issue for her. Here is one of them….it’s hilarious. An appointed Dem Senator now has to run for his seat against a popular Colorado Dem in the primary, and even tho the appointed one has been outspending his challenger by 3:1, all he’s accomplished is to destroy his own 20 point lead.
Why? The fool is using Obama for leverage! lololololol
See what Historiann sez:
http://www.historiann.com/2010/08/01/who-ever-would-have-predicted-2/#more-12001
The Denver Post article has a pretty good laff line here: “The fact that Bennet has Barack Obama ads on everyone’s television screens multiple times a day right now shows that he’s scrambling to win this primary,”…Well, no wonder Romanoff is pulling ahead. If Bennet thinks running ads featuring President Obama here is a good idea even in a Democratic primary, then he’s a bigger idiot than even I would have guessed.

http://www.historiann.com/2010/07/29/on-the-record-13-months-later/#more-11945
So….one of them comes forward. Is this akin to journolist? We may not know yet, since the one coming forward was one of the ones who tasked Obama and may have since been unwelcome and uninvited to any possible subsequent secret meetings.
Was Zero tapping them to “buff” his legacy? Does he still meet with the ones more willing than Willis to buff it?

Full of juicy tidbits!
Wills is miffed because his OMessiah didn’t take his advice so he’s dishing a lot of dirt about Zero’s transparent…oops…I mean, secret off the record meeting to learn how to buff his image. Surprise number one….Zero acknowledges that people listen to Hillary. But…..wah wah wah….since she’s SOS she can’t be his mouthpiece on domestic issues.
NO WONDER they want to haul her to the VP slot.
http://www.nybooks.com/blogs/nyrblog/2010/jul/27/obamas-legacy-afghanistan/
… I told him that Richard Nixon had advised Ronald Reagan not to make too many public statements himself—let others speak on a daily basis, and save his appearances for big issues. Obama replied that he would speak less often in the future, but at the moment no one else in his administration could command the attention that he did. He added that Secretary Clinton had some ability to get the public’s ear, but she could not speak on domestic issues like the economy.
When Obama said that he was surprised that the left was so critical of him, I said that it would continue to be critical so long as he issued signing statements before passage of a law. He asked which one I objected to, and I said that any are unconstitutional.
Zee 08.03.10 at 12:13 pm
“…Obama replied that he would speak less often in the future, but at the moment no one else in his administration could command the attention that he did. He added that Secretary Clinton had some ability to get the public’s ear…”
Oh, vomit…at further parsing, here is Zero saying he will be LESS TRANSPARENT in the future, but that there is no one his EQUAL in commanding attention, except perhaps Secretary Clinton, who is “likable enough” and has “some” ability to get the public’s ear.
Sure, Sir Emptysack. Hillary has a bit of that ability, huh?

My partner sent me this joke this morning. Thought you all could use some levity.
I’M sure I’ve taken and passed this test before.
The One (1) Question Test:
This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one.
By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally.
The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which
you
will have to make a decision.
Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous.
THE SITUATION:
You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you
caused by a hurricane with severe flooding.
This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist
working
for a major newspaper, and you’re caught in the middle of this epic
disaster.
The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career-making
photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some
disappearing
under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury.
THE TEST:
Suddenly you see a man and a woman in the water. They are fighting for
their lives, trying not to be taken down with the debris.
You move closer. Somehow they look familiar.
You suddenly realize who they are. It’s Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi!!
At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take
them
under forever.
You have two options:
You can save their lives or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer
Prize-winning
photo, documenting the deaths of two of the world’s most powerful
people.
Here’s the question, and please give an honest answer….
Would you select High Contrast Color film, or would you go with the
classic
simplicity of Black and White?

There are still many who are headstrong and can’t admit the obvious. They were shammed by obama.

“Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow are as bad as the right wing…”

omg, the comments after the Garry Wills piece were priceless (if you skipped the interminable, long-winded male bombast that was pro or con Reaganomics, etc).
But the Bobots there have only gotten as far as being “profoundly disappointed” in fraudbama. Wake me up when they get to being profoundly disappointed in their own gullible selves.

Judge to make Prop 8 case ruling tomorrow.
SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge in San Francisco will disclose his decision Wednesday on whether California’s same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay men and lesbians.
A U.S. District Court spokeswoman announced Tuesday that Chief Judge Vaughn Walker will issue his opinion through the court’s electronic filing system. He will not conduct a special hearing to announce his findings.
The ruling is coming in a lawsuit brought by two same-sex couples seeking to overturn California’s voter-approved Proposition 8, which outlaws gay marriage. The judge presided over a 13-day trial in the case earlier this year.
Lawyers on both sides of the issue have previously said they would appeal if Walker did not rule in their favor.

sheila7 08.03.10 at 9:12 pm
This is the gist(sp?) of Prop C
A yes vote on Prop C means you support Missouri’s right to opt-out of the mandatory requirement that everyone purchase health insurance.
A no vote on Prop C says you’re in favor of the federal government requiring everyone in all 50 states to buy health insurance or face a fine.
Missouri is voting yes.

goofsmom and girlsrule, it may be difficult for those new to such information to sort out all those things you mention.
One very simple clue I rely on, as girlsrule mentions…if they hate on Jews, it’s probably wild-eyed, age-old conspiracy. I’ve been loving me some Elton John and Johnny Rotten for pushing back on the Israel-haters. Israel is no different from the US in their struggle to balance their fringe elements…that is no excuse for wholesale hatred.

U.S. Finds Most Oil From Spill Poses Little Additional Risk
WASHINGTON — The government is expected to announce on Wednesday that three-quarters of the oil from the Deepwater Horizon leak has already evaporated, dispersed, been captured or otherwise eliminated — and that much of the rest is so diluted that it does not seem to pose much additional risk of harm.
A government report finds that about 26 percent of the oil released from BP’s runaway well is still in the water or onshore in a form that could, in principle, cause new problems. But most is light sheen at the ocean surface or in a dispersed form below the surface, and federal scientists believe that it is breaking down rapidly in both places.

Candice & Pumas:
In Candice’ primary run for U.S. Representative – District 1:
- Because Candice ran, all three parties – Democrat (which held the incumbent seat) Republican and Lib had women running.
- Two of the three women running won their primaries against their male male opponents.
Among all of the candidates running:
- Of the 61,734 total votes cast, Candice came in third of all 6 candidates – representing 3 parties.
- There were only 1743 votes difference between Candice and the Repub candidate
- Candice captured 34% of all remaining votes cast (excluding her own opponent’s – the incumbent)
- Candice received 58% of the votes cast among all of the candidates eliminated – twice as many votes than the 4th place candidate
How’s that for “losing” numbers of a first-time candidate up against a well-funded professional politician!

Obama Drops 2009 Pledge to Withdraw Combat Troops From Iraq
August 4, 2010
Seventeen months after President Barack Obama pledged to withdraw all combat brigades from Iraq by Sept. 1, 2010, he quietly abandoned that pledge Monday, admitting implicitly that such combat brigades would remain until the end of 2011.
Obama declared in a speech to disabled U.S. veterans in Atlanta that “America’s combat mission in Iraq” would end by the end of August, to be replaced by a mission of “supporting and training Iraqi security forces.”
That statement was in line with the pledge he had made on Feb. 27, 2009, when he said, “Let me say this as plainly as I can: by Aug. 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end.”
In the sentence preceding that pledge, however, he had said, “I have chosen a timeline that will remove our combat brigades over the next 18 months.” Obama said nothing in his speech Monday about withdrawing “combat brigades” or “combat troops” from Iraq until the end of 2011.
Even the concept of “ending the U.S. combat mission” may be highly misleading, much like the concept of “withdrawing U.S. combat brigades” was in 2009.

Today is his birthday, have some respect. (Just trying to save the Øbots the time and trouble of coming over and giving their lame excuses.)
Zee 08.04.10 at 10:14 am
Oh, well, in honor of his birthday, let’s have another Race Speech from Mr. Eloquent Hopey-Changey. Explain this one, Barky:
http://colorlines.com/archives/2010/08/environmental_racism_surfacing_in_bp_spill_waste_management.html
More than one hundred days into the BP disaster, folks are wondering where all the oil has gone….we do know the destination of around 40,000 tons of the spill waste: it’s headed for the families that have been getting dumped on for years..BP’s colorfully advertised waste management plan appears to follow a haunting pattern of environmental racism.
…These are communities already pummeled by the a triple-blow of Hurricane Katrina, economic paralysis and racial inequality. Within these populations, the pollution may strike women and children the hardest. Exposures to oil chemicals, such as benzene, along with the mystery cocktail of dispersants, may pose major risks to reproductive and maternal health…
…Toxic exposures during pregnancy are linked to birth defects, while air and water contamination make it hazardous for children to play outside. The lethal synergy between poor health and sick communities deepens the cycle of social disenfranchisement. And with limited access to health care and abortion, many poor women of color risk losing control of both their reproductive and environmental destinies.
Referring to the usual targets as “sacrifice communities,” Bullard explains the intensity of toxic exposures as a measure of the devaluation of human lives…So this is what corporate America means by “waste management.” Though Obama’s EPA vows to enhance federal monitoring of local environmental justice issues, we’re left today in anxious expectation of another avoidable crisis of race and health. Like the oil itself, the ultimate consequences are sure to surface down the line, borne out in the next generation to inherit this unconscionable legacy.

Bike agenda spins cities toward U.N. control, Maes warns
By Christopher N. Osher
The Denver Post
Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes is warning voters that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper’s policies, particularly his efforts to boost bike riding, are “converting Denver into a United Nations community.”
“This is all very well-disguised, but it will be exposed,” Maes told about 50 supporters who showed up at a campaign rally last week in Centennial.
Maes said in a later interview that he once thought the mayor’s efforts to promote cycling and other environmental initiatives were harmless and well-meaning. Now he realizes “that’s exactly the attitude they want you to have.”
“This is bigger than it looks like on the surface, and it could threaten our personal freedoms,” Maes said.

Interesting numbers from Gallup. It seems that AA’s continue to support Øbama (88% the same as in January 2009), while Hispanic support has dropped from 74% in 1/09 to 54% now. White support has gone from 62% in 1/09 to 38% now. Overall, Øbama’s support has dropped from 66% approval to 46% approval now. http://www.gallup.com/poll/141725/Blacks-Whites-Continue-Differ-Sharply-Obama.aspx
Zee 08.04.10 at 1:59 pm
That is going to be a tough one, honora. From the POV of the AA community, they are supporting a member of their community from attack that seems to them, from their experience, all too common. The same way we see the sexism in the same old excuse, again and again, that the critic is “for” women candidates, just not “this” woman candidate.
That is one of the things that makes me the angriest…all these white-guilt morons voted for this inexperienced dweeb who was bound to fall flat on his hind end…and there will be racial repercussions, including AA disengagement/disillusionment in the political process. I hope I’m wrong, but it seems likely.
Zee 08.04.10 at 2:09 pm
OK, so is urban planning going to be the next Boogieman the right is going to drum up fear about?
I like the idea of rental bikes and showers at work for city workers….and I don’t give a crap if the idea comes from the U.N. We *should* be borrowing ideas from other civilized nations.
I also love the idea of urban planning, and making walkable communities. Yes, some of the ideas will fail, and rightly so, but we should all be eager to join in on the discussion, and it should be a discussion the entire nation embraces.
I seriously doubt I could be prevailed upon to give up my car, but I know the younger generation loves the idea of being mostly car-free, and why not? If “Zip Car” rentals are all they need, so be it. Run the public transport all night long. Add more options.
Likewise, as much as I detest having a yard to (not) take care of, plenty of people are happy with condo/apartment living. If there are incentives to encourage this, so what?
Mandates are a different matter. I’m against them.

Oh! I found a completely nontoxic weed killer that is better than renting goats!!!!
Boiling water. Pour boiling water on those weeds in the cracks of your walk or stairs. Next day they are DEAD and gone. Obviously not for use alongside plants you don’t want to kill, but it’s a miracle on those isolated weeds that are impossible to pull up.
For all the non-condo PUMAs who have to do their own maintanence…
Delle 08.04.10 at 2:42 pm

Let me know tomorrow, Delle, how it worked for you….give it overnight to wither. I pulled the shriveled weed from from cement step with ease the following day. When the weather gets cooler I’m digging out the bulbs I want to keep then pouring boiling water over the entire flower bed to kill the spiderwort!!!!!

PROP 8 RULED UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!!
invalidresponse 08.04.10 at 4:10 pm
The ruling:
http://www.scribd.com/doc/35374462/Prop-8-Ruling-FINAL
invalidresponse 08.04.10 at 4:13 pm
Prop 8
REMEDIES
Plaintiffs have demonstrated by overwhelming evidence that Proposition 8 violates their due process and equal protection rights and that they will continue to suffer these constitutional violations until state officials cease enforcement of Proposition 8. California is able to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, as it has already issued 18,000 marriage licenses to same-sex couples and has not suffered any demonstrated harm as a result, see FF 64-66; moreover, California officials have chosen not to defend Proposition 8 in these proceedings.
Because Proposition 8 is unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses, the court orders entry of judgment permanently enjoining its enforcement; prohibiting the official defendants from applying or enforcing Proposition 8 and directing the official defendants that all persons under their control or supervision shall not apply or enforce Proposition 8. The clerk is DIRECTED to enter judgment without bond in favor of plaintiffs and plaintiff-intervenors and against defendants and defendant-intervenors pursuant to FRCP 58.
IT IS SO ORDERED.”

I’ve been grinning since I heard it.
invalidresponse 08.04.10 at 4:28 pm
invalidresponse 08.04.10 at 4:36 pm
From the ruling:
Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. Because California has no interest in discriminating against gay men and lesbians, and because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.

Thank you all! I need to rest a while and I have to fold up the Campaign as far as FEC etc. I know they flooded the District with Robo Calls. I was told by several people at the polling places that I was a very very bad person and they would never vote for someone like me!! They said “thats all they heard.” Each township has a Democratic Party (example Florissant Democrat Party, Normandy Democrat Party etc.) they mailed Sample Ballots to everyone in CD1 telling them who to vote for. I received one. They handed out the sample ballots telling everyone who the Democrat Party wanted them to vote for at the polling places. By them doing this Lacy didn’t have to pay for the mailings or handouts at the polls. The union’s where also spreading propaganda and handing out sample ballots at the polls. They basically pulled off a stealth propaganda attack turning me into a very very bad person. They kept the attack out of the public eyes. The media went a long by not reporting it. Remember they refused to give me the phone list? Plus I had very few donations. One person gave their all as far as financial support and I am very grateful to that person. I wanted to do Robo Calls to dispute Lacy’s lies but I didn’t have the money. Lacy’s people destroyed my Campaign signs I put up at Polling places. I could not be everywhere. People for the most part didn’t see them because they were destroyed. He plays dirty he is the worst kind kind of a politician. Everyone knows it but they still keep him in office. The people made there decision and I respect their vote. The Republican that won had support from the Republican party. In summary the people believed the lies they were told by the Democrat Party and Mr.Clay. They preferred to keep the devil they knew!! I didn’t have the money to dispute the lies and the media remained silent. No I will not run again due to the Muscular Dystrophy its progressive and I more then likely could not serve the people in the way they deserve. I need to rest for a while and look for a home to accommodate wheel chair living. With a broken Housing Voucher program that doesn’t work and add sabotage from the Public Housing Authority that holds my voucher. I have no place to turn for help with the PHA because I dare run against their puppet on a string who votes straight Party, because his seat is so safe! Its almost impossible.. I will not have Internet access. My friend is moving. Again thank you all for your support and words of love. Britt

Take a rest. It is tough out there. I had a complaint filed against me on the job today, for doing my job. It is unfounded and hopefully nothing will come from it, but I will be investigated.
Would I do anything different if I had it to do again?
Hell NO!
Headclunker 08.04.10 at 8:24 pm
I have been over at The Oil Drum trying to get the latest poo-pah on the Well from Halifax (I need to stop cussing). If you read between the lines, it appears that the trials they are doing with pumping mud into the top of the well shows that the leakage is manageable. Interestingly enough the leak rate as indicated by the amount they are pumping in to the well (that they are claiming is not necessary) is 75 Barrels per six hours, or 9 Gallons Per Minute (GPM) of mud.
The current claim for the oil gusher rate is 54,000 Barrels per day or 1,613 GPM. After they capped the well, the pressure indicated they still had 20% of the original rate leaking. That would be 323 GPM of oil/gas.
So, the question is: does oil leak 36 X as fast as mud?
I guess I should go back and ask at The Oil Drum.
What do you think?

“13 keys make Obama’s re-election a certainty? Certainly not.
There has been some press recently about Professor Allan Lichtman’s assertion based on his 13 political keys which Lichtman says has never been wrong, that indicate that President Obama’s re-election in 2012 is a certainty.
But while Lichtman’s 13 keys may very well be valid, a closer look at Lichtman’s analysis of those keys and his answers, actually proves that far from Obama’s re-election being a certainty, it is his defeat, based on Lichtman’s keys, that is a certainty.”

Very interesting article, both the original test and the same points revisited.
It actually makes me uneasy, because I remember well what the summer of 2001 was like, and how sure we were that Bush would be driven out of office before even his first term was up. There were people coming out with challenges to the Supreme Court decision, and other factors that seemed inevitable and relentless.
And then 9/11. I am NOT a “no-planer” who thinks that the buildings were imploded. But there were specific warnings that I believe were purposely ignored, and I think the Bush administration thought they could rally the nation with some incident that more or less resembled previous, smaller terrorist attacks. I think they were shocked by the enormity of the attack, but after that they did continue to use “terror alert” warnings to cow the public.
Zero has never been above using whatever tactic works, and if his popularity sinks too dangerously low, I would not be surprised at some trumped up reason to attack another country, or something like that, to “unite” us.
Or maybe some fake assassination attempt to gin up sympathy. I’m not kidding…there will be something. Something outlandish, that couldn’t be “predicted” — and I’m not saying he won’t be a one-termer, but the sooner it seems *inevitable* that he will be kicked out, the more nervous I am. He backloaded all of his economic stimulus measures, so they aren’t even slated to kick in till closer to the 2012 election. He doesn’t give a crap how much people are suffering now….he wants to appear to have “struggled” to clean up after Bush, but “succeed” in the end, so he can buy some good will closer to re-election time.
I’ve been on this scary-go-round before…I hope I’m wrong, but…I guess I should make up a marker list like that guy did, on public manipulation.

Zee #395 Regarding the hot water experiment
When I looked outside this morning at the area where I poured the boiling water, I noticed that the weeds looked yellow and dried up. When I gave them a tug I was surprised at how easily I was able to pull them from the crack in the ground. The only problem is that they didn’t all come up. Many of the weeds are still there.
I think I didn’t use enough water. I was stingy with the water for fear of damaging the concrete. The concrete doesn’t look damaged, so I will try again, this time using more hot water. The whole kettle full if need be.
Thanks again for your tip. Hot water sure beats those smelly, chemical weed killers that I’ve been using. Using without much success I might add.

Did you see yesterday’s WH press briefing with Gibbs, Thad Allen, Carol Browner and the head of NOAA answering press questions on the state of the oil in the Gulf. They said things like ‘there’s no oil on the sea bed’, fish metabolize the oil then they are fine to eat, and they talk about mother nature dispersing the oil. Huh. All sounds fishy to me.:
http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2010/08/04/HP/A/36581/White+House+Briefing+with+Press+Secretary+Robert+Gibbs.aspx
Also Admiral Allen was on Washington Journal this morning answering callers’ questions.

Oh and Admiral Allen says there never was a blackout on the media in certain areas of the Gulf, they were simply trying to prevent booms from being stolen so no one was allowed to go near those areas. There was no media blackout. Got it? That’s his story and he’s sticking to it.
There were some pretty tough questions, but he stays calm and unruffled.

I watched a little of that briefing. When I heard Carol Browner say that there was very little oil on the water due to the great work the government did – I thought I was going to throw up and had to change the channel.
Similarly when obama now speaks of the successful cleanup he uses the pronoun ‘we’.
What bullshit!!
Zee 08.05.10 at 12:26 pm
Maybe the media sucks up to whoever’s in power because they hold the keys to access. Well, what if WE held those keys? We decided what questions were asked and how often the leaders were put in the hot seat?
The media is the key….I applaud those trying to watch the media spin. It is sickening. Over at TGW I linked to a Washington Post article on how Zerobama was both against Prop 8 AND against Gay Marriage. By noon, the WaPo had changed the headline to a milder and less clear “president obama’s beliefs meet his politics.”
Essentially, Zero hated Prop 8 because he said it was “divisive” — he prefers to let things simmer and keep the status quo. He wasn’t against Prop 8 for any other reason…in fact, he’s against gay marriage. Speaking out of both sides of his mouth….and the WaPo covering that up after pointing it out.

Senate confirms Kagan as 112th justice
WASHINGTON – The Senate has confirmed Elena Kagan as the 112th justice and fourth woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
The vote was 63-37 for President Barack Obama’s nominee to succeed retired Justice John Paul Stevens.
Five Republicans joined all but one Democrat and the Senate’s two independents to support Kagan. In a rarely practiced ritual reserved for the most historic votes, senators sat at their desks and stood to cast their votes with “ayes” and “nays.”

Obamas Hit Spanish Beach, With Help From Police – cbs5.com
AIN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer
ESTEPONA, Spain (AP) ― Spanish police cleared off a stretch of beach for U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha to relax by the Mediterranean Friday after a busy day of sightseeing.

On Thursday they toured Granada, taking in the Alhambra palace — the exquisite reddish citadel that was the seat of Moorish rule in Spain — and the city’s cathedral, and also watched a flamenco show in a hillside cave turned into a tavern. At that performance, the first lady clapped along with the booming chords of the guitarists and rapid-fire, clicking heels of the dancers. “She did it well. This woman has rhythm,” said Juan Andres Maya, leader of the flamenco troupe.

At the WH press briefing on the Gulf the other day, one of the reporters asked Gibbs about MO’s trip to Spain and he answered that this was a private trip by Mrs. Obama and he would not talk about it. So does that mean she is picking up the tab for 60 rooms (if this figure is correct) at this posh hotel, so the question then becomes how can the Obamas afford such a ecpensive trip (assuming you buy that they are paying for all this). What surprised me is that then not one reporter followed up and asked for more details on her trip. They just dropped it. Questions need to be raised in a democracy. If the Obamas can prove they did pay for all of this out of their pocket, then the subject can be dropped.

Food stamp use hit record 40.8m in May
Bloomberg News /
WASHINGTON — The number of Americans who are receiving food stamps rose to a record 40.8 million in May as the jobless rate hovered near a 27-year high, the government reported yesterday.
Recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program subsidies for food purchases jumped 19 percent from a year earlier and increased 0.9 percent from April, the US Department of Agriculture said in a statement on its website.
An average of 40.5 million people, more than an eighth of the population, will get food stamps each month in the year that began Oct. 1, according to White House estimates.
The figure is projected to rise to 43.3 million in 2011.

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are gearing up for a major cooling system repair job Saturday, one that has forced NASA mission planners on Earth to dramatically alter plans for a spacewalk this week. NASA space station managers have cleared American astronauts Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson to go ahead with a seven-hour spacewalk repair Saturday to replace an oven-sized ammonia pump on the space station’s right side. The decision came after a week of round-the-clock analysis and spacewalk planning to draw up new plans for Wheelock and Caldwell Dyson, who were originally scheduled to perform a completely different spacewalk Thursday. The pump, which failed July 31, is designed to push liquid ammonia through the right side of the space station. Its unexpected shutdown knocked out half of the space station’s cooling system. Dan Hartman, NASA’s space station manager of integration and operations, called the frenetic week of emergency spacewalk planning “remarkable” and was amazed at how the space station support team “turned on a dime,” according to NASA spokesperson Kyle Herring.

With the lessons learned at such an exorbitant expense, would come the knowledge on how to do this with minimal risk and just what it would be worth. That will be the bottom line. But we knew that from the start of all this, that people who would pursue black gold in the manner that they did would not stop until they were stopped.
It is a compartmentalized predominantly white male system. Their emotions are not tied to their economics or values. The right and left side of their brains do not connect. The exclusion of women is an important part of the formula.

Space station astronauts tackle urgent spacewalking repairs |
CAPE CANAVERAL, FLA. — A pair of space station astronauts had to hammer loose a stuck connector during an urgent spacewalk to restore a crucial cooling system Saturday, then an ammonia leak erupted and hampered the entire repair effort. Despite making one of the longest spacewalks ever, Douglas Wheelock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson had to give up trying to remove a broken ammonia pump and retreat inside. Disappointed managers said two more spacewalks now will be needed to replace the pump and get the International Space Station’s cooling system operating normally again. The original plan called for two spacewalks. Another spacewalk won’t be attempted until Wednesday at the earliest. Engineers huddled following Saturday’s eight-hour, three-minute effort — the sixth longest spacewalk ever — to consider their options. “We will get through this problem,” said space station program manager Mike Suffredini. “The challenge is to get through this problem before the next problem hits the other cooling system.”
The pump failure knocked out half of the space station’s cooling system last weekend, leaving the orbiting lab with only one good cooling loop. Another breakdown could leave the station in a precarious situation. From the start, NASA described the repair work as some of the most challenging ever attempted at the 220-mile-high complex. The latest trouble struck halfway through Saturday’s spacewalk. Wheelock and Caldwell Dyson could not get one of the four pressurized ammonia hoses to come off the disabled pump. “Wow. That thing is not budging,” Wheelock told Mission Control. A bit of ammonia coolant leaked out as the spacewalkers struggled with the connections. Wheelock said the escaping ammonia resembled tiny snowflakes. Lagging well behind by this point, the spacewalkers managed to remove three of the four hoses. Wheelock tried once more to disconnect the balky line, banging the jammed button with a special tool. It worked. Mission Control erupted in applause. “Awesome,” Mission Control radioed. But the exuberance was dampened by a stream of escaping ammonia. The astronauts managed to stop the leak when they plugged the troublesome connector back in. There was time for little else as the spacewalk neared the seven-hour mark. They headed back to the air lock, and inspected their suits and equipment for ammonia crystals. None was found, but the pair still had to go through drawn-out decontamination procedures.

I had heard about them making collecting rainwater illegal (I want to say in Utah – not awake enough to find a link) but this shit is just getting to be too f’in much .

TT – it’s a mass cover up, huh? I had a break from the news during my vacation – no time to surf the web and at times no internet. I come back to total cognitive dissonance. My fellow native is reporting on facebook all of this evidence of oil, and the SCFP is reporting that most of the oil is gone. WTF? I don’t think the cow rays videoed by Pcola Gregg and appearing desperate for food would agree. The spin is dizzying.

I ate shrimp that was bought and frozen before the oil spread – my grandfather thought to purchase about 40 lbs before it was unwise to buy. I spent part of my vacation at Keaton Beach, which is in the Big Bend, and it is untouched by oil. We swam and scalloped and had a great time. The winds and currents should keep the oil away from that area (Alexander Higgins’ blog included some calculations and forecasts from an independent source that showed how).
The scallops were delicious and they are so fun to catch. We saw plenty of fish and crabs, plenty of pelicans.

Missed you Dragonfly !!!!!!!!
So glad you had a nice break from all of this crap . It blows my mind the way the media is acting like the disaster is old news . I have a neighbor and her daughter that are having the same problem I had (just beginning and still small but they can’t figure it out ) and I gave them the info you gave me . It’s being treated as ‘normal” but I think differently . I’m working on it – don’t worry .

Are you refering to the interview on FOX this morning re We Will Not Be Silenced 2008? It was excellent. Good point-The people who won from fraud are in charge of “fixing” the system.

((Dragonfly)) “So glad you had a nice break from all of this crap … TT”)
I second that cheer! And, totally relate to your state of “cognitive dissonance.”
It is with the greatest of hope that this disaster is on such a miraculous mend.
I guess I don’t find it too surprising that further along the gulf coast – away from Louisiana – the better the view, seafood and outlook of the people.
wontbackdown 08.08.10 at 10:34 am
But, Dragonfly…
We are talking about a disaster caused by British Petroleum, managed by British Petroleum, information-controlled by British Petroleum – the safety procedure violators from hell – who didn’t give a rats a$$ about people, public safety and the environment, over their bottom-line profits?
I guess my little mind still can’t seem to reconcile why clean-up crews, engineers and scientists have all been silenced by non-disclosure agreements of their divine, miraculous efforts being undertaken to save the gulf.
Nor, can I grasp why local law enforcement agencies and their off-duty members aided British Petroleum in containing media, fly-overs and public access to certain areas as “forbidden by British Petroleum, all backed by the people’s government.”
As for my Cognitive Dissonance, it goes like this:
Forget about it and trust that “British Petroleum” has miraculously solved the problem of 2 million barrels of oil and 2 millions gallons of dispersant – that we know of. The miracle is even greater, when compared to the Exxon/Valdez.
Well, that means I should give equal credit to the Obama Admin. Maybe I should be changing my opinion of him – the fraud from hell – and start working for his second term.

# 494 – Submission to political, governmental and corporate propaganda is EXACTLY what has gotten us all to where we are today, I might add.

Here’s an upper from comment at hillaryis44 although JS is a little ‘off’ on OUR acronym’s meaning. I think we should overlook it, though:

From John W Smart
The only group who got the Obama they expected are the Party Unity My Ass folks who bolted the Dems during the primaries. Liberals expected and/or dreamed of an Obama other than the half ass, feckless dilettante that arrived. Their Obama has not shown up. Moderates thought he’d actually be one of them. (Why they thought this is any one’s guess. Mass A.D.D. maybe?) Their Obama did not show up. Conservatives assumed they were getting Hugo Chavez and have spent the better part of a year and a half misusing the word socialism in an attempt to affix an allegedly scary label in hopes that it would come true. Mr. Obama has given aid, comfort and atmospherics to the Right’s central thesis – but he is no socialist. Socialists don’t bailout mega banks – they nationalize them. The Right really needs to stop insulting socialists by comparing them to Obama.
From the start PUMAs had it right. Obama – the hologram of 2008 – has not shown up. Why? He never existed. PUMAs knew this all along. The Obama who has shown up is precisely the one anyone who bothered to look past the hologram of 2008 saw clear as day: Obama is an overblown errand boy, sent by overblown grocery clerks, to stiff us with their overblown bill. Turns out he’s not even a very good errand boy. He misunderstands, then bumbles, even the most basic tasks, and, frankly, he repeatedly sneaks off for smoke breaks when he ought to be working.

John W Smart is smart to finally credit Puma {People
United Means Action} of knowing before anyone knew
what kind of president o would be. Too bad, we only
hope that 2012 will allow us to vote for SOS Hillary
R. Clinton and let her new address be the White House.
