Exciting news around here is the imminent arrival of the new washing machine. ready to kill myself with no washing machine!!

Of course Im discouraged to read about the oil spill, good grief, but im encouraged that people are working their asses off to get it taken care of, we will all suffer together it will be something else
DancesWithPumas 05.03.10 at 2:48 pm
Yep. We’re all in this together. I see hoardes of Wall Streeters, Mortgage Companiers, Auto Industriers, Bankers, Oil Rig Safety Regulators, BP stockholders, out there wearing their shrimp boots and rubber gloves ready, willing, and able to spend hours cleaning the oil drenched birds and sandbagging the shorelines.
Didn’t our “I will work relentlessly” “ready on day one” leader play a round or two of golf this weekend?
We are not all in this together. “We” are the worker bees and “They” are the greed bees.
HP Boston 05.03.10 at 2:50 pm
Oh holy shit Murphy…NO WASHING MACHINE!!! I feel your pain.
On the bright side you are close to TJX and Marshall’s so buy new clothes. Sale prices for Mom’s day………….
The oil spills make me think of the slime of O’pukeobumma and the devastation he has oozed all over America.

murphy: anyone else too discouraged to even read the news about the oil spill?
——
Initially, yes, but now I’m not giving it much of my time because it’s beginning to strike me as a lot of posturing about maybe’s.
They’ve closed this off, declared that a danger area. Just in case this happens or that happens.
BP’s gonna pay.
They’ve put bumpers out for containment but the wind is too stiff, the sea too restless for them to work.
BP will be held accountable.
They tried to burn the oil, but the wind is too stiff, the sea too restless.
BO will take care of everything.
They might put some kind of chemical on it to make it disintegrate, so to speak.
Seafood prices are rising.
It was gushing 50,000 gallons a day [I'm making these numbers up as I go] but now it is gushing 3 times as much.
Not to worry. Janet is on top of it.
In summation, it it feels like the Swine Fly er H1N1 hype.
Kind of like CHAOS as in Get Smart. Not the acronym chaos, but the word.

Yup the big swine swindle! The hype I said was bullshit then and now! A car bomb in Time Sq? Getting much to much hype and coverage to be real, much too much. Fear? May be too dangerous for public to gather out there…coming to a corrupt government near you!
What ever they say and hype I never listen……..

“some confusion happened” rings a bell – is that one of W’s quotes?
I have to admit I am something like hypervigilant on this crisis down here in my beautiful Gulf. I can’t help but read it. Something like the prey being hypnotized by the snake and coming closer? I’ve already cried.
When the weather clears and the photos are updated, I’m going to cry more.

BLACKOUT
It occurred to me as entirely strange that the BP rig blew on April 20 and did not make the news until the 29th (per my post #45 below, Thursdays Prowl)
Or is Murphy not the only one confused?
Does anyone know of any earlier news of it?

#30 Headclunker.
I gave you a direct link. Reuters and AP feed ALL the newspapers, so I chose Reuters as the one example out of many for anyone interested in actually looking up the info. I said it was easy because it took me all of one quick search and on the first page I saw Reuters, ABC NEWS (that is TELEVISION), The Guardian (UK), Washington Post and many others that covered the news the day after it happened.
If you don’t know how to search, and don’t even read what I found for you, then why are you making proclamations that it “certainly” didn’t make the televised news?
I put “oil rig explosion” + April 20 into google search. The very first page yielded multiple sources covering the explosion as soon as it happened, so you can look it up yourself, especially since I brought the easily ascertainable proof right here for you.
Here is the same link I provided above, yet again:
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE63K4I920100421
Reuters is a major source of MSM news. I can’t and shouldn’t have to reproduce every single link out of the many I easily found, so you can plug “oil rig explosion” and “April 20″ into google search and see them for yourself. Both TV and major newspapers covered this tragedy from the day after the explosion.

Headclunker and Zee
I think ‘some confusion happened’ among the news outlets and with the government because the original information about the leak rate was wrong. At first, we all thought it was a disaster that killed 11 men and could be contained. Louisiana folks were particularly unhappy with both BP and the Coast Guard for getting the numbers wrong. From April 21st to about April 25th, seems that big news outlets did not see the story we started seeing around the 26th.
I can’t prove it, but from my restless googling and reading, it seems to me that BP withheld data about the leaks (there are three not one as originally reported) as long as it could in hopes they could address the problem before we all realized just how bad it is.
Only BP had access to the underwater photos, as far as I know, because of its equipment, whereas the Coast Guard and the news outlets were going off what could be seen on the surface. we can see a few of those underwater photos, and I believe they were released by BP. At 5,000 feet deep, I don’t know who can have access to photos at the scene unless it’s BP or the military.
I may be wrong, but that’s how it appears.
According to the Pensacola News Journal, about 87,800 feet of booms have been placed along our coastline with 19,000 more to come. It’s an outdated measure, but it’s all we have. The oil is 60 miles off our coast and expected to come ashore on Thursday now. Updates can be found by visiting http://www.airnow.gov or http://www.epa.gov/oilspill.
Deepwater Horizon is still gushing aobut 210,000 gallons of oil every day.
Zee 05.04.10 at 8:53 am
Dragonfly, I do not doubt for a minute that BP withheld information. We’re still finding out details that no doubt BP won’t be forthcoming about. But the suggestion that the incident “didn’t make the news” is inaccurate.
Zee 05.04.10 at 9:02 am
Oh, and it would be nice if instead of wasting countless billions on ridiculous things like missile shields which *do not work* we’d have worked on containment and flood shields for things like Katrina, oil rig explosions, 100 year floods in Tennessee, and the inevitable nuclear power plant “leak” or failure.
Swannie 05.04.10 at 9:20 am
You know.. MSNBC has a little segment of Morning Joe called
“NEWS YOU CAN’T USE” . How telling ..because almost every other news agency now USES THE NEWS …we either get our news from a pre-disposed and slanted perspective … or we simply do not see what the major news organisations do not want people to see . The White House Correspondence Dinner the other night not only was not funny in the bigger picture of White House reporting, but a true reflection of the attitudes therein, sarcastic insider joking at the expense of the rest of the country.
The whiner in chief could not even make remarks addressing one of the the worst eco disasters in the history of this country without whining about the rain “By the way, I just want to point out, I was told there was drizzling out here — (laughter) — is this Louisiana drizzle right here? (Laughter.)” Quoted from the Huffinglue post where they describe him thus ” Obama rushed to southern Louisiana to inspect forces arrayed against the oil gusher as Cabinet members described the situation as grave and insisted the administration was doing everything it could.”
Rushed from where ?? His hangover after the correspondents dinner ?
And then he has the audacity to whine and joke about getting a little water on his most precious self while the entire Gulf Coast is being inundated with oil from the leak.

Jumping in on the BP Oil Explosion fray:
Here’s how it unfolded over the last 14 days, by my observations.
But, good luck on mapping and dating the news reports for accuracy. The “journalists” and “news” agencies of today both modify articles and/or wipe them off the net at will, or by government request, or for some “good” reason – and that’s a FACT:
- For approximately 70 hours and while they were fighting the initial fire – and for a short period after the fires had been contained: The reports were that the well was not leaking.
– Next, as the fires were under control, it was reported that the rig had collapsed – turned over – but no leaks.
– Next, the reports started that there was a leak – but that PB had multiple safety mechanisms in place to turn off the flow from leaks and that efforts would begin immediately.
- Next, for approx two days of ‘trying to stop the leak’, BP’s excuse was that they were having difficulty getting to ‘the safety valves, because of the depth and rough seas’
- Next, questions started about the “safety, back-up, cut-off valves” in relation to why BP couldn’t cap the leak – the White House started making assurance statements with ‘offering help to BP, if necessary’
- Next, BP made, what turned out to a another “excuse” of the possibility of “damaged valves” as to why they were having difficulty turning off the valves
- Next, as oil became visible, the estimate that 1000 barrels a day were leaking, were being floated
- Next, the search for the engineering and regulatory, documents was on as reality was setting in and questions, fears escalated
- Next, reports started coming that there was more than one leak
- I saw an article last Monday or Tuesday, that disappeared from the net in less than 20 minutes, that there was no master safety valve.
- Next, reports that plans to contain the oil could include setting the oil slicks on fire – but that plan would continue to be delayed because of conditions
- Next, the estimates of how much oil was leaking started rising – White House orders multiple government agency involvement, and Obama and Napolitano start making appearances and statements
- Next, on Wednesday or Thursday, it was being reported that there may be no backup safety valves and the reports were that the ‘disaster could eclipse the Valdez’
- A test fire of one slick area was conducted – sort of, kind of worked… but… simultaneously, the estimate (‘announcement’) of leaking oil rose to 5000 barrels – 220,000 gallons a day
- Next, the plan to set fire to the oil slicks were abandoned
- Efforts to stop the oil from reaching shore were underway but, rough seas were making the boons ineffective
- The oil has reached the shores.
- 11 days later, Obama rushes to the disaster zone
- The oil is traveling the coastline at will
