Even though she claims she’s not going to say, “Cheer up!” the Big Pink does cheer us up this morning:
“We’re strapping on our Pink grenades every morning and getting into the fight. If we get depressed amid the lunacy, we’ll say “so what?” We’re in the middle of a fight not at the end of one. The time for hammock swings and Pink lemonade is not yet here.
We might not like it but we realize that the Tea Party people for now are allies. So we will not disparage them as “teabaggers”. Politics makes strange bedfellows and these are strange times. We have learned that we do need two parties in opposition to each other, and other parties to live and die in order to keep those two parties in check and to let the major opposition parties know our votes cannot be taken for granted.
We might not like it but we realize that there are two choices: live or die. We’re not going to die and go away. We’ll live to fight another day.
We might not like it but we realize we are not alone in our opposition now and will not be alone in attaining our goals later. Our partners will change but we are not alone any more.
We might not like it but we realize that we were correct all along about Obama and his thug machine and his situation comedy demographics coalition. The ones who should be in deep depression and shame are Obama supporters who allowed themselves to be duped by the Dimocratic establishment and elect a stooge.
As the clinicians say, “depression is anger turned inwards“. By that definition Obama supporters should be suicidally depressed. Good riddance.”
Thanks for the pep talk Big Pink! Have a big pink cupcake! Because the fact is, obama sucks. And everyone knows it. It will just take a few more months until the mainstream media starts treating him like the joke he is. Just like they did to Bush.

“Highmark is a health insurance company based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the largest health insurer in Pennsylvania, and through a purchase in 1996, the largest health insurer in West Virginia. It primarily serves the western and central parts of Pennsylvania, some areas of eastern Ohio, and all of West Virginia, although it has recently purchased a 40% stake in the largest health insurer in northeastern Pennsylvania as well. It is currently one of the largest not-for-profit health insurers in the United States which owns several for-profit subsidiaries.”

love that. “owns several for-profit subsidiaries.” so the shell is not-for-profit, but as a whole, the company is for profit.

I might be wrong but with my limited knowledge I believe the company owns at least one 50 story building and operates two others in downtown Pittsburgh and pays zero taxes as they are considered not for profit. Yet the CEo took home a multi-million dollar bonus

Miss. School Axes Prom After Lesbian Date Request
Thursday, March 11, 2010
Print ShareThisJACKSON, Miss. — A northern Mississippi school district decided Wednesday not to host a high school prom after a lesbian student demanded she be able to attend with her girlfriend and wear a tuxedo.
The Itawamba County school district’s policy requires that senior prom dates be of the opposite sex. The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi had given the district until Wednesday to change that policy and allow 18-year-old Constance McMillen to escort her girlfriend, who is also a student, to the dance on April 2.
Instead, the school board met and issued a statement announcing it wouldn’t host the event at Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, “due to the distractions to the educational process caused by recent events.”
The statement didn’t mention McMillen or the ACLU. When asked by The Associated Press if McMillen’s demand led to the cancellation, school board attorney Michele Floyd said she could only reference the statement.
“It is our hope that private citizens will organize an event for the juniors and seniors,” district officials said in the statement. “However, at this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Itawamba County School District, after taking into consideration the education, safety and well being of our students.”
The ACLU said a school policy banning same-sex prom dates violated McMillen’s constitutional rights.

Administration gets tough on improper payments 03/10/10
Obama directs agencies to hire more auditors who get paid based on the amount of money they recapture.
———–
Administration gets tough on improper payments
By Robert Brodsky rbrodsky@govexec.com March 10, 2010 President Obama signed a memorandum on Wednesday directing federal agencies to use more incentive-based audit techniques to recoup billions of taxpayer dollars wasted through error or fraud.
The memo asks agencies to sign more contracts for payment recapture audits, in which highly specialized accounting specialists and fraud examiners use cutting-edge computer programs to scan government payments, such as Medicare and Medicaid billing records, for spurious claims. The audits would focus on duplicative payments, funds for services not rendered, overpayments and fictitious vendors, the memo stated.
The auditors then work with the government to reclaim the misspent funds and are entitled to keep a portion of reclaimed payments as compensation.

In the Pittsburgh metropolitan area if you do not have UPMC(University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) as your carrier you are f*cked for care. UPMC pays zero taxes but declines patients not in need of immediate care. They have what is beyond a reasonable control of the market. The p8g fuc@ers bought up the only real charity hospital. They pay ZERO in taxes and have the red carpet rolled out everywhere the major players go. I can guarentee, you no doctor in the outskirts of Pittsburgh can survive without sucking up to the monstrosity that is UPMC. I kid you not UPMC is very very close to a monopoly on health care in the Western Pennsylvania area. Salaries for nurses/cnas/techs will be stifled by what has been (word) and being

There are positives happening everywhere. Cheney was out supporting gay rights,Cindy and Meagan McCain are campaigning in support of gay marriage, Republicans went and elected a black man to head the RNC. Okay, so some people don’t like Palin, but we’ve now got Republicans out championing women in politics and discussing the evils of sexism. Those are progressive things, no? You have to have faith in the law of unintended consequences. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Tea partiers, like them or not, are representative of Americans getting involved in their government and wanting to hold their leaders accountable. All these things are progress, movement. change. Like Martha Stewart would say, “it’s a good thing.”

Health-care reform’s ‘back-door’ tax
WASHINGTON (Fortune) — The big talk on Capital Hill may be about health-care reform, but as part of this massive undertaking, the Democrats are quietly reshaping the tax system too. Tucked inside President Obama’s latest health-care proposal is a major change to the Medicare tax.
Since its conception, the Medicare tax has always been tied to payrolls. Every paycheck, employers and employees each chip in 1.45%, regardless of how much someone makes. Under Obama’s proposal — which should be very close to what Congress winds up enacting — a Medicare tax would now be applied to investment income too: Individuals who earn more than $200,000 and couples over $250,000 would pay an additional 2.9% surtax on unearned income from interest, dividends, annuities, royalties and rents.
Two things happen here. The first one is that the Medicare tax would go from being a payroll tax (like Social Security) to an income tax.
“You can certainly make the argument that [payroll is] really not appropriate anymore and we may as well tax all income,” says Howard Gleckman, a senior research associate at the Urban Institute and editor TaxVox, the center’s tax and budget policy blog. “But this is kind of a back-door way to do it.”
The Democrats found their way to this “back door” because they couldn’t agree on how to pay for the health-care bill: House Dems don’t like the Senate’s proposal to tax so-called Cadillac plans, and Senate Democrats don’t like the House bill’s inclusion of an income tax on the wealthy to pay for health care.

No salt
This is a chunk of text from Bill A10129, introduced on Friday in the New York state assembly, which “Prohibits the use of salt by restaurants in the preparation of food by restaurants.”
Naturally, the penalties for the use of salt while cooking food are totally proportionate and reasonable:
$1,000 a pinch? $1,000 a grain? If the bill passes—which we can only hope it won’t, since it is the ravings of a madman in legislative form—it looks like the folks at most-expensive.net are going to have to revisit their entry on the world’s most expensive salt.

Disease Cause Is Pinpointed With Genome
Two research teams have independently decoded the entire genome of patients to find the exact genetic cause of their diseases. The approach may offer a new start in the so far disappointing effort to identify the genetic roots of major killers like heart disease, diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
:snip:
More common diseases, like cancer, are thought to be caused by mutations in several genes, and finding the causes was the principal goal of the $3 billion human genome project. To that end, medical geneticists have invested heavily over the last eight years in an alluring shortcut.
(but this latest research implies that theory might be incorrect)
:snip:
The finding implies that common diseases, surprisingly, are caused by rare, not common, mutations. In the last few months, researchers have begun to conclude that a new approach is needed, one based on decoding the entire genome of patients.
The new reports, though involving only single-gene diseases, suggest that the whole-genome approach can be developed into a way of exploring the roots of the common multigene diseases.

Vice President Joe Biden came to Israel early this week to promote new Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and tighten the bonds between Israel and the United States. He leaves on Thursday amid increased uncertainty over the nature and timing of those talks and with a sense of unease hanging over the American-Israeli relationship.
The cause of both was the unexpected announcement in the middle of his visit that Israel would construct 1,600 new housing units for Jews in East Jerusalem , where the Palestinians hope to build the capital of their future state. That news produced an angry condemnation from Mr. Biden as well as signals of distress from the Palestinian leadership, asking for American help to get the project stopped.

Someone posted this on the Big Pink and although I am not a Rosanne Barr fan of any sort, I would have never guessed she sounds like a PUMA…
when the dems screwed Hillary, they screwed america
out of health care and out of jobs. I knew it. I told you so. I got so sick to my stomach as I watched forty years of the work of women get washed down the drain by axelrod and emmanuel and dean, richardson kerry and kennedy.
When Oprah, who knows nothing about politics and who never in twenty years did one show on the subject, put the final nail in the coffin of the health care candidate, i was stunned. I lost my faith in everything, including God. I had seen the dismantling of the working class since 1980, and had fought against it so hard, doing everything i could, and using everything at my disposal. I thought, how can an entire generation of feminism die right when the hope for it was at its strongest. I pleaded with friends not to back Obama. I said, but you know Hillary is the health care candidate, and he has not even a plan for any kind of healthcare in his platform or in his campaign! I blogged every day on the subject for about a year.
I knew the phony progressive left was just a trick of Soros and billionaire criminals to take down health care. I knew Obama got more wall street money than any other candidate, and I knew he was a phony too, all the way, as I watched him snicker about Hillary, the woman’s candidate being “likable enough”. I didn’t like her vote on Iraq, but she promised to end the war, and I believed that she would. I knew that she would listen to women, not completely abandon them as Obama has done. I knew that she would listen to working people, before bankers, unlike what Obama has done.
They set her up like they always set up women, and after we do all the groundwork, they take it away, and then they divide the spoils between themselves and their old boy network. Now, it is all coming clear to all the idiots that the wrong person is in the white house. Another George Bush. He has not saved one home from foreclosure nor created one job. He just wants to get down on his knees in front of those republicans and grovel, and HE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE TO!
They triangulated race and class AGAIN!! They may have token black people in congress and the senate and the supreme court, and elsewhere, but they have never ever in this history of this country had ONE token poor person in anything.
Class, not race is our real national nightmare. Race and gender are second and third. Damn, so close to single payer and real change, now so far. My God, India has had more women at the top of its government by about 5X than we have.
I have no hope and no faith left at all for this country and the people in it. It’s not going to get better, but worse, and I blame the Democrats for all of it. They are sold out played out corrupt nothing lovers dancing around a golden calf, as Republican Sociopaths line their pockets with our hard earned money, and the Romney family, who have worked harder than any other family, save the Bush’s to destroy the fabric of the great society licks its chops for 2012. A bloodbath is coming. Republicans will clean up in the elections, and then they will clean up the rest of the money too and stuff it in their pants. They will cut everything, and have a return to the Confederacy that they have dreamed of since Roosevelt left office.

you are a great woman!! Today when you said that you would not seek ever again to run for President, you were taking the legs out from under the Puma movement who claims that they are backing McCain in order to press for your return to the presidential race in 2012. These “undecided” dems are threatening to vote for Palin-Mccain to show Obama that they think he is a two faced lying sexist who cheated his way to the top of the ticket. By publicly removing yourself, and backing Obama as the only hope the middle class has at this time shows your sheer political genius, and your commitment to a more balanced America!
You continue to fight for the working people of this country and so am I Hillary!! Now it is crystal clear that if they continue to back McCain, they are racists pure and simple. They will deserve to be shunned by all women who claim to be feminists, fair minded, pro hillary or sane. If you go on their puma website you will be astounded at the level of their self righteous racist attacks on Obama. If you question their racism you will be erased automatically. Obama promised $2,500 health care savings; CBO says plan is $2,300 price increase
Barack Obama has been touting this fact, and he did it again yesterday during his speech in Missouri, that if you pass healthcare reform the cost for families currently receiving coverage would go down by “14% to 20%.”
Durbin claimed that rates would go up, while the president said the rates would go down.
“Anyone who would stand before you and say well, if you pass health care reform, next year’s health care premiums are going down, I don’t think is telling the truth. I think it is likely they would go up, but what we are trying to do is slow the rate of increase,” Durbin said, speaking on the Senate floor.
Among the five basic facts that the CBO analysis cites about the bill is that “Your family insurance plan – if your employer drops your coverage and you are forced to buy it on your own – will cost about $15,000 per year when the legislation is in full force in 2016.”
http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/62587
So who are you going to believe?
…the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office. An analysis of the Senate health care bill – the plan Obama wants the house to pass — found that healthcare premiums would actually RISE by $2,300.
The CBO analysis says that “the average premium per person covered (including dependents) for new nongroup policies would be about 10 percent to 13 percent higher in 2016 than the average premium for nongroup coverage in that same year under current law.”

House Votes Against Ending Afghan War
H. Con. Res 248 Defeated 65-356
by Jason Ditz, March 10, 2010
It may have produced hours of fiery debate, but in the end Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s (D – OH) House Concurrent Resolution 248, which would have mandated the end of the US military presence in Afghanistan by December 31 ultimately failed, as was widely expected.
The vote was 65-356, with vast majorities from both parties opposing the resolution to end the war. Rep. Kucinich and his 19 co-sponsors delivered impassioned pleas to end the conflict, but they appear to have ultimately fallen on deaf ears.
In fact, much of the debate from the “no” side came in the form of questioning whether the debate should have happened at all, including speculation that Rep. Kucinich and others had “forgotten about 9/11″ and that they were deliberately trying to undermine America in seeking to end the eight and a half year war.
Since the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan, the US military presence has increased dramatically, with President Bush announcing a massive escalation in 2008 and President Obama announcing two further escalations in 2009. By summer it is expected that over 100,000 American troops will be in Afghanistan, along with tens of thousands of international forces.

Civilians Among 17 Killed in Latest US Drone Strikes
Drone Attacked Crowd of Civilians Rescuing Victims of Previous Drone
by Jason Ditz, March 10, 2010
The first drone strike targeted a vehicle which Pakistani officials say was “carrying some miscreants.” The attack killed at least eight people and collapsed a nearby home, which is what precipitated the second attack.
http://news.antiwar.com/2010/03/10/civilians-among-17-killed-in-latest-us-drone-strikes/
US drone strikes in Pakistan tribal areas boost support for Taleban
Drones are the Obama Administration’s weapon of choice for killing militants in the tribal areas. The pilotless Reapers and Predators have chalked up a long list of insurgent deaths, accounting for scores of leaders from al-Qaeda and the Taleban since their deployment in 2004.
The effects of the campaign, however, are beginning to veer dramatically off course as the strikes intensify, according to tribesmen. “Before the drone attacks began the Taleban weren’t so obvious among us and the militancy wasn’t as strong,” Amir said. “But now every home in North Waziristan seems to have one or two Taleban living in it. The youth are joining them.
Feelings against the US and Government are rising because of the attacks. Al-Qaeda has been badly affected by drones — but it has benefited too.”

AS IF racism could be the only reason not to vote for the lying, inexperience, cheating, corrupt, fraud.
Then again, when ya aint got nuthin else… “racism” is the (stale) ace in the hole. Thing is, it’s been so overused, it no longer has an eeffect. The accusation is played out.
I will add though, no one who grows up in a racist society escapes racism. I’m guessing that 99.9999% of the population of the US is racist, whether or not they live in Park Slope, Chicago, Florida, or elsewhere; whether they are asian, latino, black, white, red; whether they ar poor, working class, middle class or rich; whethre theyve been in this country for generations or are new immigrants.
And, I’ll add, as I’ve said before, the differences lie in whether one accepts / embraces / cultivates their own racism, or is indifferent to racism, or examines their racism with a goal of working through their racist perceptions and beliefs.
The first two examples is where the problem lies.
Me? I’ve always been part of the last group, probably because of my parents and the environment in which I grew up.
However, my position has shifted over the past two years with the manipulative use of the ‘racism’ accusations. Although it still stings to read racist comments and innuendo, I’ve been practising remaining silent and or becoming indifferent to it. No longer in my bag or fundamental issues.

A Georgia gubernatorial candidate was arrested Wednesday for making threats against singer Elton John, the Atlanta-Journal Consitution reports.
Neal Horsley was arrested in Carrollton, Georgia, according to local police.
John, who the paper calls a “part-time Atlantan,” angered Horsley when he told Parade magazine that he thought Jesus was gay.
Horsley then penned the Internet diatribe on “Why Elton John Must Die,” the paper said.
There is also a video posted on YouTube showing Horsley protesting outside John’s Peachtree Road condominium with a sign that reads “Elton John Must Die.”
Horsley was charged with making terroristic threats, criminal defamation and using the Internet to disseminate threats.
This is not the first time Horlsey has gotten in trouble using the Internet, the paper reports. In 2002 a federal appeals court ruled a Web site run by Horsley condemning abortion doctors amounted to illegal threats, not free speech.

Two very different sites but each gives me invaluable perspective.
I had never followed a blog or posted anything before I found His44. Agree or disagree with admin there she/he/it is rediculously informed. I read everyday and witnessed what the bots did. Individuals had used their own names and referenced their own businesses which later ended up lampooned and derided during the primary. Individuals on Something Awful took a woman’s business and destroyed her online site. I had used my real name and posted my email address way back when before super tuesday and I was the recipient of several suicide instructions. Anywho the second place I ever posted was here and I for one cannot thank you enough for keeping up the good fight.

A Trailblazer of Civil Rights Dies Forgotten
By ROBBIE BROWN
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Neighbors were chagrined last week when the police here found the body of a 75-year-old woman who had frozen to death, alone in her house, during unexpectedly frigid weather.
But they were shocked this week when they learned that the woman, Juanita W. Goggins, had been a civil rights trailblazer who in 1974 became the first black woman elected to the South Carolina legislature.
Now residents of this normally neighborly Southern capital say they are feeling regretful, and slightly guilty, for allowing one of its most revered figures to disappear into a sleepy ranch house with little company. Possibly mentally ill, living without running water or heat, Ms. Goggins is believed to have died on Feb. 20 — when temperatures dropped below freezing — but her body was not discovered for 11 days.
:::snip:::
Those achievements include teaching public school, founding a tutoring company and in 1972 becoming the first black woman from South Carolina to be a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Ms. Goggins was elected to the State House in 1974, defeating a white male incumbent.
“I am going to Columbia to be a legislator, not just a black spot in the House chambers,” she told The Associated Press at the time. Voters, she said, “were ready to accept a person who was sincere and concerned about things. Those feelings go beyond color.”
In the legislature, Ms. Goggins helped expand kindergarten classes, reduced student-teacher ratios and approved sickle-cell anemia testing in county health departments.
“She had an amazing life,” said Mr. Hunter, her neighbor, before adding, “I just wish I’d knocked on her door more often.”

Dems Abandon Abortion Deal, Ready Health Vote
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel emerged from a meeting in the Capitol with top Democratic lawmakers Thursday night saying, “We made a lot of decisions. We’re getting towards the end.”
WASHINGTON — House Democratic leaders Thursday abandoned a long struggle to strike a compromise on abortion in their ranks, gambling that they can secure the support for President Barack Obama’s sweeping health care legislation with showdown votes looming as early as next week.
In doing so, they are all but counting out a small but potentially decisive group whose views on abortion coverage have become the principal hang-up for Democrats fighting to achieve the biggest change in American health care in generations. Congressional leaders are hoping they can find enough support from other wavering Democrats to pass legislation that only cleared the House by five votes in an earlier incarnation.

On Pi Day, one number ‘reeks of mystery’
By Elizabeth Landau, CNN
(CNN) — The sound of meditation for some people is full of deep breaths or gentle humming. For Marc Umile, it’s “3.14159265358979…”
Whether in the shower, driving to work, or walking down the street, he’ll mentally rattle off digits of pi to pass the time. Holding 10th place in the world for pi memorization — he typed out 15,314 digits from memory in 2007 — Umile meditates through one of the most beloved and mysterious numbers in all of mathematics.
Pi, the ratio of circumference to diameter of a circle, has captivated imaginations for thousands of years — perhaps even since the first person tried to draw a perfect circle on the ground or wondered how to construct something round like a wheel. Approximately 3.14, the number has its own holiday on March 14 — 3-14, get it? — which also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday.
You won’t get off school for Pi Day, but you might be doing something special in school on Friday (the last weekday before Pi Day). Mathematicians, teachers, museum directors, math students of all ages and other aficionados celebrate the number with pi recitations, pie-baking, pie-eating contests and math-related activities.
The holiday has gained popularity worldwide every year during the last decade as enthusiasm has spread on the Web, said David Blatner, author of “The Joy of Pi.”
One of the oldest, if not the first, established Pi Day celebrations is at the Exploratorium in San Francisco, California, which boasts 22 years of pi mayhem. The day is even recognized by the U.S. government: Last March, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting Pi Day and encouraging schools to teach children about the number.
It doesn’t take a math whiz to appreciate pi. Umile, a Medicare biller training to be an emergency medical technician, never took advanced math classes in school, not even algebra. Memorizing pi for him seemed like a good test of memory, and he found that putting the digits in a definite rhythm, which repeated exactly every 1,000 digits, helped him remember them.
See pi calculated to the 10,000 digit
Pi Day falls on March 14, which is also Albert Einstein’s birthday

Dems seek agreement, quick vote on health care
WASHINGTON – Under White House pressure to act swiftly, House and Senate Democratic leaders reached for agreement Friday on President Barack Obama’s health care bill, sweetened suddenly by fresh billions for student aid and a sense that breakthroughs are at hand.
“It won’t be long,” before lawmakers vote, predicted Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She said neither liberals’ disappointment over the lack of a government health care option nor a traditional mistrust of the Senate would prevent passage in the House.

Here’s an update on the sex abuse scandal. The Pope knew a priest who had been accused of forcing a minor to perform oral sex on him. The priest was sent for therapy for a month and then returned to his pastoral duties, apparently on the Pope’s authority. A few years later, the same old story. While the Pope was Cardinal of that Diocese, the priest was returned again to pastoral duties, but an “underling” claims responsibility for the decision. He said that such decisions were left to underlings. This happened back in the 1980s.
In 2008, this priest AGAIN was accused of molestation.

“I’m not sure I quite understand this, given that cost is so important as a burden to taxpayers when it comes to health care. Democrats want so badly to abort babies because of it, why are we bothering with someone who has a broken neck and back at 69?”
————
I stopped reading after the first paragraph above. The only point that post brings home is that the poster is a propagandist freak.
“democrats want so badly to abort babies”?
I hope Murphy deletes your link. It’s ignorant tripe.

Delle – both of your last links have been WOW – thanks for them
DancesWithPumas 03.13.10 at 11:34 am
Scarlet
do you really think a link to apost that begins with “democrats want so badly to abort babies’” is credible??
scarlet 03.13.10 at 11:48 am
Dances, I don’t know if it is credible. Perhaps the writer was referring to this:
What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”
http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/rep._stupak_pro-choice_democrats_say_abortion_funding_needed_to_keep_too_ma/
Now, we don’t know if dems are actually saying that…
When I read the article my focus was on the comments on Mrs. Reid where the writer was, I am assuming, referring to Comparative Effectiveness which we will all be subject to under the health care bill.
Delle 03.13.10 at 11:57 am
DWP I didn’t mean to upset you or anyone. Really.
The point of the article to me was that under the new plan, any 69 year old woman who broke her neck in an accident would be left to die, or be purposely put to death. If Harry Reid has a conscious at all, that fact should make him realize how unfair the bill is that he is pushing.
As far as the abortion issue, I too heard the comments by Stupak. Besides, most democrats do want abortion covered, do they not?
Again, I’m sorry.
DancesWithPumas 03.13.10 at 12:02 pm
Scarlet
okay, I get your point. I was appalled by the introductory statement delivered to us by that link… The generalization about democrats and abortion on a site initiated by Democrats and women and frequented by both.
We probably insert disclaimers distinguishing the cluster-fuck politicians fro
original party Democrats…
Delle 03.13.10 at 12:16 pm
One More Thing Dances,
I found that article on Hillbuzz where someone posted it. The commenters over there seemed to come to the conclusion that I did regarding Reid’s wife. Nobody got upset.
I thought the folks on this site might enjoy discussing it too. I surely didn’t expect all hell to break loose.
Sorry one more time.

Family homes in Detroit are selling for as little as $10 (£6) in the wake of America’s financial meltdown.
The once thriving industrial city has suffered a dramatic decline following the global economic crisis.
According to Tim Prophit, a real estate agent, the crisis has led to a unprecedented portfolio of homes, but they are failing to sell.
He said there were homes on the market for $100 (£61), but an offer of just $10 (£6) would be likely to be accepted.
Speaking on a BBC 2 documentary, Requiem for Detroit, to be screened on Saturday, Mr Prophit said: “The property is listed by the city of Detroit as being worth $35,000 (£22,000), but the bank know that is impossible to ask.
Detroit is a city in decline. We are known as the Murder Capital of America, because of the number of deaths each year.”
Mr Prophit said: “Since the subprime mortgage crisis and the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the banks have been foreclosing on properties at an increase of 15 per cent every nine months.
“Last year my firm the Bearing Group dealt with 394 foreclosed properties which all sold for under $1000.
Five years ago the average home price in Detroit was hovering around the $100,000 (£61,000) now that has fallen to $11,500 (£7,000).
Detroit, home to the three big US car makers, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler, Detroit has been hit by a perfect storm of unemployment, falling house prices and the near bankruptcy of the automotive industry.
Figures from the U S Bureau Of Labor Statistics show Detroit has the worst unemployment in the entire country at 17.7 per cent.

And because we were recently talking about womens rights and womens month… Several years ago, I inquired to go to a private fashion school (FIDM in San Diego). They told me what it cost and asked my marital status. When told, they wanted to speak to my husband as well as this was a huge financial commitment.
The writing on the wall screamed loud and clear for me, that what they are actually saying is that I needed my husband’s approval for something like this.
I told them EXACTLY what I thought and to fuck off. I was mad as hell and started my business with no fancy fashion school. Thankyou.

Gibbs: By next Sunday, healthcare reform will be ‘law of the land’
By Walter Alarkon – 03/14/10 09:59 AM ET
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said the healthcare bill will pass by next weekend.
“We’ll have the votes when the House votes, I think, within the next week,” Gibbs said on “Fox News Sunday.”
Gibbs added that those on next week’s Sunday talk shows “will be talking about healthcare not as a presidential proposal but I think as the law of the land.”
President Barack Obama will look to campaign on the new healthcare law in midterm elections, Gibbs said.
“We believe healthcare reform is going to pass, and once it passes we’re happy to have the 2010 elections be about the achievement of healthcare reform,” Gibbs said.

On Meet the Press today James Clyburn, dem vote counter in the HOuse, said we do not have the votes YET to pass healthcare, but we are working on it this weekend. Why would they send him out to admit they don’t have the votes? Axelrod was asked by Tom Brokaw if he was totally convinced they could pass the bill. Axelrod paused, then said I’m absolutley convinced we can pass the bill. Why the word change. They don’t have the total number of votes they need, but he is absolutely convinced they will pass the bill. What are they implying by these equivocations?

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of voters say the health care reform plan now working its way through Congress will hurt the U.S. economy.
Two-out-of-three voters (66%) also believe the health care plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats is likely to increase the federal deficit. That’s up six points from late November and comparable to findings just after the contentious August congressional recess. Ten percent (10%) say the plan is more likely to reduce the deficit and 14% say it will have no impact on the deficit.
Seventy-eight percent (78%) also believe it is at least somewhat likely that taxes will have to be raised on the middle class to cover the cost of health care reform. This includes 65% who say middle-class tax hikes are very likely, a six-point increase from late November.
Underlying this concern is a lack of trust in the government numbers. Eighty-one percent (81%) believe it is at least somewhat likely that the health care reform plan will cost more than official estimates. That number includes 66% who say it is very likely that the official projections understate the true cost of the plan.

126 –
I live in Massapequa, Long Island. I don’t think we had a tornado, just a heavy rain and wind storm.
Since I wrote the above message, we were hit with another thunder storm. This time we were pelted with hail. The hail is still all over the street! I’ve never seen anything like it!
The second storm also pushed my pine tree further against the house and uplifted the fence. It’s our tree, so my husband and I will have to pay for the neighbor’s fence.
Two trees in the yard are now leaning over. One seems to have been struck by lightening.
All together we will have to have three trees removed.
The tree surgeon will try to be here tomorrow. Not surprisingly, he is quite busy.
This will be a pretty expensive storm for Hubby and Me.
Still, no one was hurt. We are lucky.

Social Security to start cashing Uncle Sam’s IOU’s -
stored at Parkersburg W. Va. Older Americans have been telling younger people that the reason Social Security could have funding problems now is that the govt has been stealing the huge funds paid into social security for years, not because it is a ‘failed’ program. It was funded in major excess for many years, while that excess funding was stolen for other projects. Now is the time to demand payback of the stolen funds (with interest IMO) and increase future payroll funding of the program if necessary:

New York floods mailboxes with 700,000 vintage tax-delinquency letters: You may be a debtor!
New York state has unearthed billions of dollars in unpaid taxes as old as the 1950s in an attempt to shake money from the pockets of some taxpayers.
In January, the state dug into its archives and mailed a list of outstanding bills to 700,000 people — everyone who has a debt older than three years on the state’s books.
“Maybe they hoped we forgot about it,” Acting Tax Commissioner Jamie Woodward said.
The notices tell taxpayers the tax year, an amount due and amount of the discount. But the letters do not say what kind of tax the state thinks the person owes or how much of it is penalties and interest. The letters offer options to pay by phone, Internet or mail.
They do not offer an avenue for appeal, even though the burden is on the taxpayer to prove the state wrong.
Ben Berry, 69, of Jamesville, was also surprised to get a notice for a 1998 tax bill he said he does not owe. He operated a coin laundry business and then two TCBY franchises, but closed his last business in 1997.
If he paid by March 15, the letter said, the state would reduce his bill from $20,571 to just $9,724.
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/03/new_york

My comment has nothing to do with deliquent tax bills, but with a deliquent gas bill from ten years ago. I have been getting notices from a collection agency to pay up. The thing is, I have an all electric house and have lived here for over 30 years. I think they just make things up to try to get money.

I am in Baldwin and the damage is overwhelming. Pine trees through houses. One 80 years old pine took chimney and all straight threw 2 floors of house. I don’t think
there is a pine left on LI. Got electric and heat, thank God, but no TV and phone.
What a scary night and I’ve lived through hurricanes!!
What a winter this has been!!
I hope the NE PUMAs are spared this. Glad Delle your family is safe.
Very windy and cold now are we getting more?
Delle 03.14.10 at 1:03 pm
FL Barbara – I’m so sorry to hear about all the damage. I think every town along the Bablyon LIRR line was hit badly. We seemed to have suffered more damage than those towns on the north shore.
I have oil heat, so I didn’t lose it when my power went off overnight. Everything is back on now.
This was a bad one. Probably the most frightening storm I can remember. Growing up on Long Island made me used to hurricanes and heavy storms. But I’ve never seen hail coming down like that.
Well, we are safe, though a bit shook up. I hope you are too. And I certainly hope the storms are over. The forecast predicts more rain off and on through tonight into tomorrow. Yikes!
Stay safe.
BCL – Thanks. Yes, the house is safe.

I just received this from a Republican friend . . .sorry, no link.
Does anyone know if there is any truth in this?
Republicans in Nevada are crying foul over Jon Scott Ashjian, who filed as a tea party candidate to oppose Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in November. The charge: The Reid camp put him in the race to siphon conservative votes from the Republican candidate, CNN reported.
And the Las Vegas Sun reported: “Republicans, long accustomed to the Reid tentacles reaching into every crevice of Nevada politics, have publicly floated the idea — repeated frequently in conservative media outlets — that Ashjian is a sham fashioned by the Reid campaign to save the senator’s flagging political fortunes.”
“Nobody in the tea party knows who he is,” Danny Tarkanian, one of the GOP senate candidates vying for the nomination, told CNN.
A Rasmussen poll shows Reid trailing all three Republican candidates by double digits in head-to-head races. But a Las Vegas Review-Journal poll found that, with a tea party candidate on the ballot, Reid would win the three-way race by a narrow margin.
Both Reid and Ashjian have denied the allegation.

Rielle Hunter speaks for the first time in GQ interview about John and Elizabeth Edwards, Andrew Young, and the big-money donors
Hunter says she’s still in love with “Johnny” and believes he loves her. That they went to bed together the day they met. That his marriage was “toxic,” that he feared “the wrath of Elizabeth.” That it was Young’s idea for the coverup in which he claimed paternity. That she had no idea how much money — now the subject of a grand jury inquiry — was being funneled to her from top campaign donors.
The nearly 10,000-word Q&A is accompanied by photos of Hunter styled as Jennifer Aniston might be for a glossy mag: Glowing skin, blond hair, curled on a bed in a white shirt and strand of pearls, bare-legged with a glimpse of panties. There is also a picture of Hunter holding her daughter.
