Act Like a Lady, You Bitch!

in Madam Secretary,PROWL,Puma PAC,Swamp Misogyny,teh BOIZ,The War on Women,Vote FOR Women

I’ve been having a good time cross posting and commenting with the excellent Uppity the last few days. A big thank you to Uppity and her loyal readers for taking part in last night’s PROWL about the Uberjackass Glenn Beck (haven’t done the PROWL yet? Just click HERE!).

Riverdaughter compares Hillary Clinton, rightfully, to FDR for her speech on internet freedom. Without internet freedom this blog, Uppity’s, and any other that dared to be as non-conformist and uppity (what the hell? I’ve used the word “uppity” like four times already. make that five times.) would be GONE from the internet.

Violet bemoans yesterday’s Supreme Court decision to give groups like C.U.N.T. free rein to say pretty much whatever they want about women. And also to pour millions (or billions I suppose) of dollars into political campaigns.

Speaking of men being allowed to say whatever they want about women, Arlen Specter yesterday told a congresswoman to sit down, shut up, and start acting like a lady:

I’m pretty sure I don’t agree with Bachmann’s votes in Congress, but what the hell was THAT? When the reporter was interrupting, Specter sure as hell didn’t tell HIM to start acting like a lady.

Send this message to Arlen Specter:

Senator Specter, Shut up and Act Like a Lady!

Sincerely,
Your Name

It has been a long time coming imo, but I think it is time to put Arlen out to pasture.

C-span’s Washington Journal’s featured topic today was the Supreme Court ruling on lifting corporate campaign limits. Steve Hoersting, Center for Competitive Politics & Jamin Raskin, American Univ. Washington Law School take calls and discuss the ramifications of the ruling.

Murphy, while I appreciate your motives, I cannot, in good conscience, do anything to defend the hyper homophobe, Michele Bachmann. I’m sitting this one out.

I think that was made clear by his sentiments during the Hill-Thomas hearings. Actually, the panel consisted of males only…
all outstanding in their fields, which is where they should have been all this time… out standing in some field.

Why on earth would any Senate woman allow that old fool to use a sexist charge against them? Act like a lady? I’m slow to anger but even I would have exploded at that.

There are million things i dont get about Pres Obama. One can never see inside someone’s mind and or predict what he might do, but something that is abundantly clear to me is the sad fact that the only way he seems to be able to address anything is to give another speech. He’s now on what they are calling the
the White House to Main Street Tour.
Today President Obama is traveling to Lorain County, Ohio to talk to Americans about what the economy is like on the ground during these tough economic times. This is the second stop of the White House to Main Street Tour; last month the President spent some time with folks in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania.
I googled Lou Dobbs this morning because i miss him at times as he was one of the few that sometimes made a little sense and the other reason was because after he announced his house had been shot at, i was wondering what he is doing. Well, he is doing a radio show, so i went and listened to the archived show he did yesterday. I think the guys name was Matt Lewis anyway Lou gave the facts. He’s given:
42 news conferences
158 interviews
411 speeches 52 of them about healthcare
He then said, i find it odd listening to Obama’s explanation
of maybe something that caused the Mass upset and on abc’ george
stephanolus show said, “we lost some of that sense of speaking directly to the american people about their core values.”
The guy then said yes, he’s been “ubiquitous” this year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But then after listening, and having to look the ubiquitous
word up, so wont be running for anything either LOLOLOLO, i thought, you know, it’s really sad and quite pathetic to come to the realization that Obama actually doesnt know how to lead or guide because all he knows how to do is give speeches. Now I know we have all said that before, but honestly, while we might get upset and outraged at any talk show personna and with good reason, we dont need speeches or opinions mr. president, we NEED someone with some ideas of how to solve problems, not speeches that promise hope is coming. We need a leader that shows some freaking “action jackson” and a serious ear to the ground to hear the storms coming and work on them before they thunder through town and destroy everything that is still left standing. I dont know who that will be, but damn, speeches dont get er done.
To me, what is considered his greatest gift has become his greatest weakness, it’s really quite a boondoggle.
12
murphy 01.22.10 at 1:26 pm
That’s understandable antifish. And when someone tells you to sit down and stop acting like a dyke, I’ll be sure to sit it out too.
13
antifish 01.22.10 at 1:31 pm
Murphy, if I thought of Michele Bachmann as a lady, I may find offense here, but I honestly can’t say that I do.
I’ve been told to sit down and stop acting like a dyke so many times I can’t remember. That’s perfectly okey-dokey here in America and people like Michele Bachmann actually encourage it.
Act like a lady = rapt attention on listening to your wise superior daddy while he treats you in a condescending manner.
Act like a man = debate as equals, stand up for your positions, counter your opponent.
18
DancesWithPumas 01.22.10 at 1:43 pm
A woman (irregular plural: women) is a female human.
The term woman is usually reserved for an adult, with the term girl being the usual term for a female child or adolescent. However, the term woman is also sometimes used to identify a female human, regardless of age, as in phrases such as “Women’s rights”.
19
goofsmom 01.22.10 at 1:45 pm
Prowl Done… I had to add my own snarky language… Couldn’t leave it alone… :)
Senator Specter, Shut up and Act Like a Lady!
Dear Senator Specter,
Your comments were offensive to say the least. Respect for a fellow member of congress seems to be something you have a problem with, especially when it’s a women.
I noticed that you did not ask the interviewer to “act like a gentleman” when he kept interrupting you.
I also notice that you have no subject catagory for Women. Maybe that’s explained by your 1950′s mentality.
Wake up Senator Spector and join the 21st Century. You do know that women can vote, right?
20
sistermoon3 01.22.10 at 1:47 pm
Ive been called Bitch so many times i lost count, so whatever.
Spector and all the good ole boyz have lost their manners and direction. So has the many ole repub boyz. It’s time for some new breeds in the congress on both sides.
All different sectors that are citizens of this country have many complaints. Understandably so, but this country should be ran by people who care about it’s citizens and not just for political gains, it has to be sincere backed up with actions for everyone, period.
While Beck was running his mouth, Obama was putting down every man that drives a truck, what the hell is the difference. I think any of them who call out certain groups are blatantly showing their ignorance on all fronts. I want someone that just talks to people, treats them like people, and makes a point to
address problems we have as problems for all to be solved.
21
BigCatLover 01.22.10 at 1:47 pm
Murphy,
Listen to this guy (Steve Hoersting, Center for Competitive Politics) at the c-span link in #3. You need to know that these guys exist and what they are saying. Sexist insults are one thing but not the only thing we need to attack. The guests come on a little later in the show after the first round of caller calls on the corporate contribution ruling or use the CCP’s direct link:
http://www.campaignfreedom.org/blog/detail/hoersting-on-c-span-to-talk-citizens-united .
Here’s a statement from the top of their website page:
Today’s ruling in Citizens United v. FEC transforms the political landscape by restoring First Amendment rights to businesses, unions and advocacy groups. It unequivocally means more speech in campaigns, and voters will have access to more diverse and robust information as a result.
As Zee would say, Nice Try.
22
sistermoon3 01.22.10 at 1:49 pm
There he is, on tv again, so look forward to year of speeches.
Please someone, tell me how that is getting things solved, for God’s sakes someone please tell me.
33
sistermoon3 01.22.10 at 2:00 pm
He’s go transparency confused with on tv everyday, and unless the American public start complaining about that being his only weapon of how to get things solved, he will continue down that damned same ole road. You have heard im sure many times, if you try the same old tactics to solve problems you will end up with same ole results. Just like many of us turn off our ears to the right or to the left, people are turning him off, but that’s not the answer, somebodey needs to tell him and who better than the people.
Just thought I’d share this article. Made me laugh and then made me mad when I read the Corporations names. That our congresscritters would be soliciting campaign donations from Playboy, explains some of the misogyny! :twisted: :evil:
—————————————-
CEOs to Hill: Quit calling us for campaign cash
WASHINGTON – Dozens of current and former corporate executives have a message for Congress: Quit hitting us up for campaign cash.
Roughly 40 executives from companies including Playboy Enterprises, ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s, the Seagram’s liquor company, toymaker Hasbro, Delta Airlines and Men’s Wearhouse sent a letter to congressional leaders Friday urging them to approve public financing for House and Senate campaigns. They say they are tired of getting fundraising calls from lawmakers — and fear it will only get worse after Thursday’s Supreme Court ruling.
Switching Specter is done – here comes November. “Is that abortion?” Bachmann should be too although there are several male seats I would wish purged first if it’s not a woman to replace her (thank goodness I dont have to vote in that one).
Thanks for the Violet link on this week’s Supreme court decision means. I thought that was a HUGE deal. Even less voice for the people than in the last elections. On the bright side it seems we might as well stop futilely donating to political races – there is no way anyone can compete with the big corporations on this and the citizenry is usually quite uninformed or swayed by the stupidest motives(see 2000, 2004, 2008).
C.U.N.T (aka Citizen’s united) using their derogatory “Hillary the Movie” to start a destruction of Hillary even before the election was in full gear won the case and brought down the restraint on direct corporate take over of the political process. Welcome full blown oligarchy!
This is worse than it seems:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34983056/ns/politics-supreme_court/
The ruling lowered the six-decade wall separating corporations and unions from candidates for president and Congress, allowing the wealthy entities to spend as much as they want from their general treasuries to run advertisements advocating the victory or defeat of candidates at any point before elections.
It’s likely to prompt businesses and labor to dole out unfathomable amounts of money in campaigns nationwide. The goal: elect the people who will do their bidding, while defeating those who won’t.
Most Republicans are rejoicing.
Many Democrats are complaining. Of course, the more corporate-aligned one will only more continue to win the primaries giving the party a horrible name.
McCain has said “he was dissapointed” his (well-intentioned McCain-Feingold) law being struck down for all purposes.
Feingold lamented the overall decision as a “terrible mistake … ignoring important principles of judicial restraint and respect for precedent” and vowed to introduce new legislation to reinstate aspects of the corporate restriction.
Check out their officers!
http://www.citizensunited.org/about.aspx
In their misogynistic quest they might have just about ruined the tiny bit of power people had left in our democracy.
_______
I suppose it depends on where you’re from or your personal preferences. Where I live, the term lady is a complement to a woman which speaks to her politeness and manners much as the term gentleman is used for men with such attributes. But that’s here.
I find the term dyke very offensive and NEVER use it. Here, it is an extremely negative slur toward a lesbian, meant to be demeaning, and is only used by gay bashers. I do understand, however, that in other places, it’s used as a badge of honor by lesbians.
46
**********************************
Arlen Specter (born February 12, 1930) He will be 80 years old geeezzzzee!
Five-term incumbent Arlen Specter was reelected as a Republican by a 53% to 42% margin in 2004.
Arlen Specter was treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2005 and 2008. He is currently in remission
********
This is an 80 year old man, who was elected as a Republican Senator by the people and then decided on his own, that he will switch parties..
From my personal perspective, politicians that want to change parties, should be obliged by law, to go back to the people who elected them and declare “I will no longer be a Republican I want to be a Democrat”. Do you think they would have still given him a 53% majority…. I think their votes would have told him Hell No!
And at 80 years old, he has a deadly illness Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which will come back to his attack his body, with a vengeance.
So I doubt very much that he would even get 10% of the votes, if he decides to run this November as a Democrat or Republican. So politically I think he is a dead man walking.
Bitch, slut, tramp, cunt, bimbo, bombshell, ‘blonde’, hag, trollop, milf, brainiac, tease, lady, breeders, witch, dyke, lesbo, goddess, lezzie, bulldagger, bulldyke…
words mean something, and the patriarchy is fond of categorizing women and thereby separating us with degrees of the judgements contained in these terms. There aren’t half as many such designations for males.
Rejecting by referring to all of the above as “women” only, we diffuse and neutralize the intent of the male categorizations of women.
We get to redefine the terms by not acknowledging or internalizing them, or by owning and celebrating terms such as “dyke” and “bitch” (See the BITCH Manifesto in the Matriarchy Club’s public forum or at the http://www.pumapac.org/action_center.html .)
———–
Senator Specter, Shut up and Act Like a Lady!
Dear Senator Specter,
Your comments were offensive to say the least.
Respect for a fellow member of congress seems to be something you have a problem with, especially when it’s a women.
As a Democrat, I may not approve of some of Michele Bachmann’s viewpoints, but just being a man does NOT give you the right to use a contrived, politically correct phrase such as, “Act like a lady.” in a way that a father might address his young daughter that is being rude in public.
When men interrupt you, such as the male interviewer, I noticed that you did not address him in the same manner, “I will treat you like a gentleman, so stop interrupting me.”
In essence, what you were really saying to Congresswoman Bachmann was, “I am a man, I have the right to speak over you, if I want to talk. You, as a woman, need to be quiet and listen to what I say, and answer me. I wouldn’t get away with saying this type of degrading gesture to a man, because he might punch me for it. Men don’t do this to other men, but we men feel protected by society to be condescending to women.”
Woman of America are watching you Senator Spector, both Democratic as well as Republican women. So, if you want to keep your job, working for the American people, you had better clean up your act.
Now that there’s not going to be a health care bill. And if there is one, it wont be universal. I think that Hillary will run because of this. Remember what she said?
“it is a fight I will continue until every single American is insured – no exceptions, no excuses.”
79
sistermoon3 01.22.10 at 3:23 pm
#78 Hillary is respected on both sides, of course when will get Healthcare done one way or the other, where do people go when they want real information to people who know what works and what doesnt. Sad, but i want her to get credit not him, is that selfish.
80
antifish 01.22.10 at 3:24 pm
#78 I’ve thought the same, and am hearing rumblings in some circles that she may soon resign as SOS. Of course, the situation in Haiti must first be stabilized and barring any further catastrophic events.
It’s all just rumors at this point, but one can hope.
If obama went down in the polls everytime he gives a speech starting today, at his rate, (yesterday he was three times)
he would be at ZERO % in a month.
84
sistermoon3 01.22.10 at 3:40 pm
if he went down one point everytime he gave a speech, for #83
obama losing even MORE control? He cant keep his buddy Ben as chair of the fed:
maybe congress will wake up and realize they’ll be more popular with their constituents if they totally IGNORE the stupid president?
Shadowfax 01.22.10 at 3:46 pm
Is he starting to realize that his Happy Days are over?
(snip)
“Now, we’ve gotten pretty far down the road, but I have to admit, we’ve run into a bit of a buzzsaw along the way,” Obama said.
With my apologies to the cranky pumas, I’ve been watching a dog rescue in LA from the LA river which is usually a dry bed, but with all the rain is now about 20 feet wide with swirling water. Shepard Smith followed this story for a full 40 minutes of his 3 pm hour news show on Fox. First they had to steer the dog toward the shallower water which was the opposite way from the way he was moving. Then they got in the water and tried to get to him but he wouldn’t let them get near him. So they used a helicopter to move him to shallower water where he could walk but the sides were high walls that he couldn’t get over. Finally, they lowered a man to pick him up and he bit the man. When his rescuer got him restrained, they raised man and dog up and over to a bridge. Finally the dog was muzzled and put in an ambulance. Let’s hope he has an owner who will claim him and take him home. I am exhausted watching this. Unlike balloon boy, this appeared to be a real rescue. LOL
Filibuster reform bill headed for Senate floor, faces uphill battle
By J. Taylor Rushing – 01/22/10 06:00 AM ET
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) intends to introduce legislation that would take away the minority’s power to filibuster legislation.
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) intends in the next few weeks to introduce legislation that would take away the minority’s power to filibuster legislation.
Harkin has wanted to change the filibuster for years, but his move would come in the wake of Republican Scott Brown’s dramatic victory in Massachusetts. Brown’s victory cost Democrats their 60th vote in the Senate, and may have dealt a death blow to their hopes to move a massive healthcare overhaul. It could also limit President Barack Obama’s ability to move other pieces of his agenda forward.
Dow averages down over 200 pts again today and the same yesterday. Over 400 pts in 2 days. Is that because the insurance companies are not going to make zillions from the hc bill now?
94
stoney42 01.22.10 at 4:28 pm
BigCatLover – Saw the dog rescue too. That was something.
Did Prowl.
Happy Birthday Simofish!
For those Pumas with IRA’s, like me, the Dow fell by triple digits for the third day in a row. FYI, obama began talking about U.S. finances Wednesday. He is POISON!!!
I did the prowl, so I hope it’s ok to comment on the dog rescue. :oops:
YAY, BCL! I’m glad they got him out. He probably only bit the guy because he was frightened. Hope he gets a hot t-bone tonight!
I don’t know if anyone has ever read about Sojourner Truth, but I loved her “Ain’t I a Woman” speech.
(Wikipedia has it in the original dialect):
another version here:http://www.feminist.com/resources/artspeech/genwom/sojour.htm
Delivered 1851 at the Women’s Convention in Akron, Ohio
Well, children, where there is so much racket there must be something out of kilter. I think that ‘twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon. But what’s all this here talking about?
That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches, and to have the best place everywhere. Nobody ever helps me into carriages, or over mud-puddles, or gives me any best place! And ain’t I a woman? Look at me! Look at my arm! I have ploughed and planted, and gathered into barns, and no man could head me!
Retire Arlen. He’s been there in the Senate for too long. PA residents: PA Primary is May 18th, and you must be a registered Democrat to vote against him. Joe Sestak is challenging him and behind in polls. Perhaps there are other challengers as well. The application, downloadable at link below, must be received by your county voter registration office 30 days before the election, or postmarked no later than the thirtieth day before the election. Military electors may apply at any time.
Campaign finance reform accomplishes one thing. It makes it more difficult to unseat an incumbent. Particularly a bad one. And it doesn’t really change much except to put sunlight on the whole finance process. Now they won’t be hiding behind George Soros’ 527 front groups. Fact, once finance reform was in place donations from Wall St. went up, not down.
Now unions, corporations, organizations like pumapac are not restricted. If the PUMA’s produce a great spot, there’s no restrictions on when they can run it.
Nowhere in the constitution does it say certain groups that make to much money have less rights then anyone else. Plus anyone who has started a business will tell you, that a corporation is just like an individual with all the same rights.
Here’s what should settle it. If I or Murphy, or DWP have more education or make more money, or are more successful than a neighbor, does my neighbor have more rights than me or Murphy or DWP?
McCain/Feingold is unconstitutional. PERIOD. I question the four that don’t understand the bill of rights.
