And She WAS the Best, Peter

Friendless? That crazy, bitchy, vicious, loose cannon Hillary Rodham Clinton!

Go take a long walk off a short pier, Obamedia. Peter Daou responds to Ben Smith’s ludicrous assertion that the Clintons are friendless thusly:

“As a former adviser and a senior staffer/department head at her presidential campaign, I’ll proudly defend Hillary Clinton and I’ll do whatever I can to counter lies, smears and mischaracterizations.
–snip–
I couldn’t miss the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with one of the most dynamic, inspiring women in the world. And even though the entire focus when I joined her was on the senate campaign, I, like many others, was looking ahead to the 2008 race. I’ve blogged for years about the pervasive abuse of women and the rampant sexism that affects our world, and the idea of electing a woman president was beyond exciting.

Our first meeting was set for 15-30 minutes but lasted over an hour. . . We discussed the Middle East and my childhood in Beirut during Lebanon’s bloody civil war. Not unexpectedly, she knew virtually everything about every topic we discussed. And she was as down to earth and funny as anyone I’d ever met in politics — or outside politics.

A week later, fighting flared up in Lebanon. Very early on a Sunday morning, my home phone rang. I answered groggily. It was Hillary, calling to make sure my friends and family in Beirut were OK. That’s the person she is, the person I encountered throughout the campaign, privately and publicly.

–snip–

Having participated in countless senior strategy meetings, crisis management and rapid response drills and emergencies, “war rooms within war rooms” (a term used by Heilemann/Halperin), debate prep, calls, emails and private conversations with the candidate, and having slept with my BlackBerry under my pillow and been stationed at the center of her communications operation for the duration of the campaign, I can confidently state that Hillary Clinton did not push for ‘vicious’ or dirty tactics against any of her opponents, nor did she encourage or ‘cheer on’ that behavior from her staff. The ethos of the campaign, which she conveyed in word and deed, was that she would win because she was best prepared, worked the hardest and had the most compelling ideas.

She was centered, dignified and focused throughout, although her frustration and pain did show through at some moments. She knew the media environment was stacked against her, against any woman. She knew what she was up against and drove forward into the furious headwinds of sexism and rightwing-fueled Clinton-hatred.

For Hillary Clinton, it wasn’t about being a woman, it was about being the best.”

Conan told NBC to go shove it by the way. Hell, do you blame him? It’s almost like the Clintons, you wonder you really do have to wonder why they stay and support with all the backstabbing they have absorbed, endured, and it’s like an endless task for some to see they continue to be the brunt of everything. Isnt that almost absurd and obteuse?

I had to add this, Murphy, after following the links from earlier this morning. Below is a snip from the Confluence. It appeared directly above the quote Murphy already posted about the likelihood (snowball’s chance in hell) of a woman or a gay man getting various opportunities such as being elected after posing for a naked photo, as Scott did for Cosmo in 1982.

Well, here’s something else about Scott:

—–

“Brown is far from moderate, is an opponent of same-sex marriage, and once called same-sex adoption “not normal.” But his popularity might not stem exclusively from his conservative politics. Brown, selected by Cosmo in 1982 as “America’s Sexiest Man,” might be exploiting his raw animal magnetism to win votes on the campaign (happy) trail.”

_____

I wouldn’t want Scott telling me what he thinks is normal. I don’t care how good-looking he is.

I must admit to wanting the Dems severely punished in all elections for a while, but Coakley doesn’t have to be sacrificed on that altar.

sorry, i know this is off subject, but hell, it’s serious

This happened and Greta van posted it

WAR….right our border: MEXICO

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS? WHAT SHOULD WE? THIS WAR IS RIGHT NEXT DOOR.

69 murdered in one day

“….Two weeks into 2010, gang bloodshed is becoming more grotesque as drug lords ramp up their attempts at intimidation. Last week a victim’s face was peeled from his skull and sewn onto a soccer ball. On Monday, prosecutors in Culiacan identified the remains of 41-year-old former police officer divided into two separate ice chests….”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one of the posters there said, and i swear i agree with her.
Legalize the damn drugs. Period.
Here’s what i believe, let them work like everyone else legally, and if they can sell their products then let them pay taxes, let them be productive in there damned drug business but hell, pay taxes and perhaps become part of a society that has to promote their products like everyone else. LOLOLOLOLOLOL shit, people quit smoking cigs, and they are legal, do you really think drug usage would go up if it were legalized. Hell, maybe a few, but the teenagers wouldnt like to know it’s legal. Just like cigs, they gonna get someone buy them for them anyway. And they dont make the laws anyway. IM sick of the sickening stories of how the cartels love to torture and mutilate down there, im sick of it. It’s time for change alright, TAX the damned trouble makers for once. Legalize their shit and see how well they do. They will leave in droves because it will take the excitement out of it and make them legite.
Guess what, do the same in Afphanistan. Legalize that damned Opium, sell it to pharmas LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLolol
We do nothing about Trafficking of females, but we just go out all out on these drug wars huh?
Is this a sort of Homeland Security Politburo?
American Republic replaced by “Council of Governors”?
By Judi McLeod Tuesday, January 12, 2010
Quietly—even stealthily—in the opening days of the New Year, President Barack Obama has set up a “Council of Governors”.
Like the 30-plus czars running America with neither the people’s nor the congress’s blessings, the Council of Governors is already a done deal.
“Is this a first step towards Martial Law, or a tie to the InterPol, RAND National Police Force stuff we’ve been hearing about,” asked a Texas patriot who tipped off Canada Free Press (CFP) after finding news of the new Council of Governors on Twitter. “Is this a sort of Homeland Security Politburo?
“I do know it’s another sleuth order executed without any announcement, OR EXPLANATION to the People.”
Patriots know by now that the promised Obama “transparency” is a fog.
Checking the Net on the Council of Governors, CFP found other than a few blogs only UPI.com had the story as of this morning:
“President Barack Obama Monday established a panel of state governors to collaborate with Washington on a variety of potential emergencies, the White House said.” (UPI.com, Jan. 11, 2010 at 11:54 p.m.). “Obama signed an executive order establishing a panel to be known as the Council of Governors, which will be made up of 10 state governors, to be selected by the president to serve two-year terms. Members will review matters involving the National Guard; homeland defense; civil support; and synchronization and integration of state and federal military activities in the United States, the White House said in a statement.
First day back at school. I am not happy with my first assignment. I have to watch the news every night. Now here’s the clincher, she wants us to look at both sides of issues so she wants us to watch Fox and MSNBC. I haven’t watched MSNBC since sometime around the primaries. That is going to be hard for me to watch. Anyone know who the least offensive person there is to watch? I figure for Fox I can watch Greta or even O’Reilly. Can’t do Hannity.
13
BigCatLover 01.12.10 at 6:08 pm
You might pick Rachel Maddow because she is female and gay so at least you’ll get that viewpoint even though she was a big Obama supporter.
14
BigCatLover 01.12.10 at 6:11 pm
Here’s a chance to ruin that 4.0 average you made last quarter by pointing out to your instuctor that CNN is not impartial or balanced, but very pro Obama and you prefer to watch them for the liberal point of view.
15
Dragonfly 01.12.10 at 6:20 pm
good luck this term – good idea BCL re Maddow. I like her. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the 4.0 continues!
16
sheila7 01.12.10 at 6:22 pm
BigCatLover,
I forgot about Rachel Maddow. Not a big fan of hers but she is a lot better than Matthews or Olbermann. I guess that’s who I’ll watch. Thanks.
heeheehee- I actually considered saying something like that. I still might ask if I can get the liberal view from CNN. Although, I’m not sure there is anyone there I can stomach either. Wonder if Jane Velez Mitchell counts as news. :) Probably not. :wink:
17
I love Greta and Hannity personally. Once in awhile I need to yell at Hannity to keep him in line, but not often.
I haven’t watched CNN in over a year and maybe someone that is on earlier is better, not Keith, nor Andersen…
19
sheila7 01.12.10 at 6:29 pm
Shadowfax,
I used to be okay with Hannity but he gets on my nerves. LOL. I don’t know, he’s a little obsessive. And sometimes he bad mouths Hillary and that ticks me off.
Probably to get the most of my assignment would be to watch Hannity and Chris Mathews. But….I can’t watch old tingle legs.
I might go ahead and do Rachel Maddow and Bill O’Reilly. That should give me two very opposing views.
20
honora 01.12.10 at 6:31 pm
“And she is the best, Peter”. Small correction. I still have my Hillary bumperstickers on the front and back of my car. I kinda hope someone will challenge me, I am ready to declare that I knew she was a better candidate than Obama during the campaign and I know that she will make a better president than Obama when she gets the chance. (Its great, every time I type Obama my computer alerts spell check. I know that I can put it in as an approved spelling, but I kinda like the fact that my computer knows that Obama is fundamentally wrong.
21
honora 01.12.10 at 6:37 pm
Gov. Paterson’s son (15) was just picked up for possession of a stolen debit card. I really feel for him (as a parent), but this could have an impact on an election campaign that was going to be troubling for him without family issues. (He may not be so sure that he wants to get involved in the Ford- Gillibrand election.– where guess what he thinks the Black guy challenging a woman incumbent is a great thing!!!)
22
CatBalu 01.12.10 at 6:45 pm
Don’t you people get it? According to Game Change, not only is Hillary a crazy bitch, but also Elizabeth and Sarah. No such criticisms thrown at the stellar male candidates, of course.
And, excuse me, why are all the Dems from the Head Honcho down willing to give Reid a break by looking at his voting record and body of work on diversity when Bill Clinton was given no such allowance during Hillary’s campaign? Is it possible The One needs Reid now and back then just wanted to exterminate the Clintons? Sounds like a typical politician to me.
Why do the Clintons stay with the party that backstabs them and the American people, particularly women. Could it be that they have something to gain personally?
Why did Bill Clinton lobby for Dubai in their attempts to buy our port security contract from then president George W. Bush. The Clintons don’t walk on water, they are life long politicians. They will support and applaud as a great sucess, an Obama Health Scare bill in any form, as a victory for their party. Crap and Trade, Forced Unions, anything that King Obama wants. I so over the Clintons. They’ve stopped “thinking about tomorrow.” Now they are only thinking about themselves.
You ask questions in your comment and then, without any benefit of answers, you predict what the Clintons will do in terms of obama.
I suppose you believe Hillary Clinton is not thinking about tomorrow, nor the girls and women on this planet now and in the future when she champions the status of girls and women and our cause.
31
Juliette 01.12.10 at 9:55 pm
Did any body see Hannity last night? He really defended Elizabeth Edwards from the attacks in the new misogyny gospel “Game Change.” His defence of her was sincere and showed his respect for marriage and empathy for her difficult position in her husband’s sleezy situation. I have to say that after a life time of indoctrination into a liberal group think, I am beginning to see conservatives as more mature, more sincere and more respectful to women then the deseased liberals and their culture of misogyny that seems to dominate the NE part of the country and California. November 24, 2009 article “The Wilding of Sarah Palin” by Robin of Berkley says it best. “The leftists are Mr. and Ms. Misogyny. Neither the males nor females care a whit about women.”
I have had to hold my nose too many times while the Clintons, both of them, campaign for Obama care in every crappy form it has taken. The bill keeps on getting more polluted with pork and they still just want it passed. They are party politicians. Why can’t you see that?
HRC can make all the speeches about the rights of women and girls she wants. But her life time of efforts on behalf of women is being undermined by the Obama administration’s complacency and down right acceptance of the pain and down right slavery that Islam is inflicting on females throughout the world.
The Clintons were the only two people in the world who could have stopped the Obama presidency. Instead of defending democracy they positioned themselves comfortably in his undemocratic administration.
Party politicas by party politicians.
And why would Hillary speak out against BO when she is Secretary of State? Get real.
Elect Scott Brown, Massachusetts: Do it in memory of Mary Jo!
Senator Scott Brown Would Be Tribute to Memory of Mary Jo Kopechne
86
lorac 01.12.10 at 11:24 pm
Juliette – do you realize your words sounds like those of a “concern troll”?
By law, Hillary cannot speak about domestic matters. Her job isn’t even considered a “political position’. Bill has spoken up about the health insurance bill, but only in the most general terms. You as a private citizen have more varied and outspoken ways of speaking out against something. Because of their positions (and their desire to keep being public servants) they have fewer and less obvious ways of fighting something.
If Hillary had indisputable evidence that Obama couldn’t be president, she would have shown her hand. Suspicions wouldn’t have cut it. So…. you wanted her to do – what? She would have *legitimately* lost the primary had she said what she suspected with no proof to back it up.
Hillary is a true public service – she wants to be around to help in whatever way she can. She’s not going to blow her wad on one battle, get kicked out, and not be around to fight the whole war to help the people. Hillary is not in this for the short-term win, sound-bite, or “gotcha” moment. She’s in it for the long haul. If you shoot off your own foot, you’re not going to finish the raise. But…. you’re certain she’s being “selfish”…. and that she’s oh-so-comfortable having to work under the guy who cheated her left and right for the job she was a million more times qualified to hold. Go Figure.
87
BillieJo 01.12.10 at 11:24 pm
Scott Brown is not Karma for Mary Jo, and it’s a cheap shot to Martha.
No, I wasn’t in Denver. But what exactly could have possibly happened that the delegates couldn’t vote? People who went to Denver give these vague statements that there was intimidation. OK so there was intimidation. There were threats too. I don’t doubt it. But there is no way in hell that the DNC could have fired thousands of delegates for voting for Hillary which by right, they were able to. I along with millions have been working tirelessly on Hillary’s campaign and I wanted that roll call vote and it is not much to ask for to have the process followed correctly.
89
turndownobama 01.12.10 at 11:27 pm
Speaking of voting in Denver … without asking anyone’s permission, Martha Coakley DID vote from the FLOOR for Hillary!
John Lillpop, the author of that article is one sick twisted puppy:
“Electing Scott Brown will obviously not bring Mary Jo Kopechne back to life. But it might help remind Americans that elitist liberals, at their core, do not give a whit about little people.
Elect Scott Brown, Massachusetts: Do it in memory of Mary Jo!”
Thanks for that comment. Why are people so quickly jumping to Brown when we have a serious chance here to get a REAL democrat in office that followed the rules of the democratic process and unwaveringly supported Hillary while fulfilling her delegate duties representing MA voters who voted for Hillary?
You want to take away the Dems power? Fine. But do it by campaigning against asshats like McCaskill and Leahy.
Brown [Coakley's opponent] isn’t just against abortion, he’d DENY EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION TO RAPE VICTIMS.
H/W
boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2010/01/04/abortion_stances_of_brown_coakley_not_so_easily_defined/
[Coakley's GOP opponent, Brown cosponsored a bill] which would require a woman to wait 24 hours before having an abortion and to review pictures and information detailing the developmental progress of her fetus.
[ Brown got ] the support of the Massachusetts Citizens for Life in this race, based on his position on issues including abortion, stem cells, and federal health legislation. He also opposes federal funding for abortion, supports strong parental consent rules for minors, and supports the ban on what opponents call partial-birth abortion. [....]
Brown sponsored an amendment to a 2005 bill on emergency contraception that would have let emergency room doctors or nurses turn away rape victims if they had religious objections to providing emergency contraception.
Yes Bill Clinton only speaks of the Health Care bill in general terms, but he supports Obama care and says it must be passed. Thats how most democrats except for Dennis Kucinich are defending their support for the vague concept of Health Care Reform. As if the vote is on a concept not thousands of pages of legal mumbo jumbo written by Health Insurance and Big Pharma lobbyists. I hold the politicians who I have supported accountable.
And if Hillary Clinton is not allowed by law to speak about domestic matters, why on earth has she publically supported Obama care while SOS?
The MSN isn’t doing the dems any favors by giving them their unconditional and unquestioningsupport. They have only hurt the party by giving them enough rope to hang themselves with. I think some Pumas are doing the same where Hillary is concerned.
Juliette -
I think you’re feeling a lot of frustration and disappointment in Hillary. That’s understandable. I think probably we all have moments of wondering what her game plan is, because we know her to be a woman of principle and it isn’t always readily apparent what she’s doing, what she may be juggling in addition to the issue which is confusing us. But she is living and working within a political context. If we believe that she knows a lot more about politics than we do, and if we believe that she may be the last public servant left in the country, we have to have faith. (I can’t say “hope”, because that word has been tarnished.)
And what could she do, anyway? The majority of the country is already against the bill, and they want to ramrod it through (without reading it), anyway. How could she have any sway with all those politicians, even Chuck Schumer, who we’re now finding out was only pretending to be for her during the primaries? So where could she make a difference, if the public’s already against it, and the politicians are dancing to the Chicago drummer?
If you have truly been a Hillary supporter, then when you’re feeling frustrated, remind yourself of what an incredibly hard worker that Hillary is. She’s not doing that for the money; she has plenty of money. She’s working hard for your future, she’s positioning herself to be able to keep working for your future. Doesn’t her incredibly hard work say anything to you? Think about it, and it may come to reassure you to hold on.
Politicians always need money, that includes the Clintons. Why did Bill Clinton lobby for Dubai in the Dubai Port deal? Why did he pardon Marc Rich-so he and his wife could benefit from Dennise Rich’s Riches. Just because I hold the Clintons accountable I am accused of being a concern troll. But I am not naive about what politicians are. They are all corruptable and NEED the public to hold them accoutable.
I am not happy to read such emotion infused remarks from Pumas who find it unacceptable to question Hillary Clinton on any issue. For your information I often find myself defending Hillary againt Obots who are misinformed about her record and attack her with thier ignorance and lies. I am holding HRC and Bill Clinton accountable for their support of Obama policy. The Healthcare bill is huge and will be devistating to most of us here who are women of a certain age. It sucks and anyone who supports it needs to be corrected at the very least.
I would do the same if any other candidate I have supported even with just my vote was vocally supporting Obama care.
At least I can still be proud of my support for Dennis Kucinich in the 2004 primary. He has shown the courage to call Obama care what it is. Clinton endorsements carry alot of weight. They hvae both voiced their support for Obama care and want it passed. I won’t remain silent about that.
119
lorac 01.13.10 at 12:47 am
Juliette – it’s certainly your right to do what makes you most comfortable at this time. I, too, believe politicians should be held accountable. But, personally, I don’t know yet that there is anything to hold the Clintons accountable for in the area of health care. They certainly haven’t been cheerleaders, haven’t put their heart and soul in it. I think they’re doing what they need to do to get by – and as I said, I don’t see what they could be doing differently – if they spoke out against it, congress wouldn’t hear, and the public is already against it.
But it does feel weird that you’re bringing up Dubai and Marc Rich. First of all, those aren’t about Hillary. Second of all, those are old news – it’s like you’re looking for reasons to be mad at them, trying to build up your hatred of them. I think that’s on you, kiddo.
Makes me ill too, Dances.
I also was told by delegates, that up until the day before or the day of the convention vote, that delegates did not have each others contact info, it was requested way in advance so delegates could decide on how to make sure there was a roll call on the floor. The DNC made sure to ignore all their requests and they ran around at the last minute trying to connect with each other. Also delegates in Calif were told the roll call was at a certain time, they had to meet earlier in Sacto, while they were there, Nancy moved up the roll call vote so they were not able to fly there in time.
Delegates were also threatened by the DNC that if they did not vote for Obama, their districts would not receive funding or help when they ran for office in the future.
Makes me want to throw up.
Pushing Hillary up in front of the mike, by NY to concede…made me furious and so angry…all I could do is cry. Looking at Hillary’s face, with all the knives sticking out of her back, this is a day I will never forget. Getting out of Denver after that was the only way I could deal with the pain.
122
Juliette 01.13.10 at 1:27 am
I’m still wondering what really happened to Shirley Tubbs Jones.
Democracy died a mysterious death in Denver.
Oh and Lorac.
Dennise Rich money has benefited both Clintons. As for bringing up Dubai ports, its an example of how and why I hold politicians I have supported and voted for accountable. I feel responsible for those I have supported. Soo many people I know voted for Obama after hating him during the primary, because the Clintons convinced them he was an honorable candidate while they were campaigning for him.
Your right Lorac. I am frustrated, but mostly tired from having to fight every day for my country, my freedom and for a future free of Obama care. I’m horrified about what it will mean for my personal health needs and that of my aging parents. I am sick of the thought of all the federal debt that my young nieces and nephews will be stuck with. I am not only mad at the Clintons but my Rep-Alyson Schwartz and my Senators Bob Casey and Arlen Spector. They all make me sick quite honestly. And they will all gain personally for their support of Obama’s destructive policies even if they do not win in the next election, they will have something for themselves. Kind of like how Chris Dodd has a nice big chunk of Ireland to retire to even though he won’t have his senate seat any longer (even though that had little to do with Obama). They are all looking out for themselves in the new Obama Nation.
In fact I think they really started looking out for themselves in the last two years of the Bush administration.
Nancy-impeachment is off the table-Pelosi. I wonder what was in it for her.
Maybe we need to be ‘grading on the curve’. There’s a custom in college, when ALL the students score low on a test, instead of giving them all F’s, you refigure the grading.
Nobody gets an A, but….
The 10% who did least bad get a B.
The 20% who did next least bad get C.
Etc.
The worst 30% get an F.
With the current Democrats, since they all seem to be voting for the HC bill one way or another, I think maybe we should
tag as ‘keepers’ the 10% or so who are least bad: Coakley who voted for Hillary on the floor of Denver and has worked for choice for years; Gillibrand; Cantwell who supported Hillary early and long, etc.
Choose the worst (McCaskill etc) to crush asap.
Those in between, flip a coin and flip them off. ;-)
