10. That the government didn’t just buy all the failing banks with the TARP money.
9. Having an inexperienced flim-flam master as Commander in Chief.
8. Suicide rates skyrocketing during the Great Recession.
7. Iran going postal.
6. The Puma PAC Woman Lynching Forum. Of course, we sweep out these outrages of 2009 only to make room for a thousand or more dead American women and children in 2010.
5. David Letterman, Kanye West, Barack Obama, and David Letterman (again!)
4. Actually the entire mainstream media can take a long walk off a short 2009 pier. Remember Mad Bitch Beer? This fabulous parody almost made the Post’s jackasses worth it. Almost.

2. The Corporate States of America
1. And last, but not least, obama’s response to the Plane Terrorist attack. Don’t forget the Vapidity and Hypocrisy, aka Hope and Change!
What stories were the worst for you this year? What are you sweeping out today?

Great idea, Murphy, but there are so many possibilities that I’m going to have to give it serious thought.
Not troubling though, is sending PUMAPAC a donation. On the way next time I venture out in the car.
Happy New Year to all!

Mornin’ PUMAs -
Speaking of cupcakes – got an email this morning from 1-800-flowers – subject of email was a birthday gift for me (it’s next week – Jan 5) and guess what – it’s a cupcake!!!!
I might just have to order it for myself – vase is shaped like a cupcake paper liner even
I like the list – also, saw on news last nite – Hillary Clinton most admired woman – 16%; Sarah Palin – 15% – Oprah Winfrey (ugh) – 8% & mememechelle – 7% – first time that a FLOTUS is not #1 on the list – Hillary should be POTUS or Sarah –
Happy New Year PUMAS – wishing the best for all of us in 2010 – trying to be optimistic here & it’s tough…………

The worst story for me happened on January 20th, when the fraud was sworn in as president.
It’s gone downhill from there.

Susie,
Happy early birthday, yours is the same as my youngest grand daughther! Mine is on the 14th. I will have to check out the cupcake flowers lol.
I am cleaning out the closets and getting rid of all the clothes that I will never fit into again, (most of the items in there), donating to Salvation Army today. Trying to get rid of everything I don’t need or use. I figure that way, it the moment arrives I can get out of here, I will be ready! I have the tv turned off, I don’t need to go down memory lane of 2009, I somehow doubt any of us will soon forget this year or last. I will just use it to try to make a difference next year.
Happy New Year everyone!

Happy New Year (((Pumas)))H – I know for many, apart from all the things Murphy mentioned above, It was a really rough year personally – so here’s hoping for a better 2010. (((HPBoston)))
OT but don’t want you to miss these two items:
1. Be careful anyone nearing retirement – those who choose to stay with employment based health care plans rather than sign up for Medicare face potential lapses in coverage when they do sign up for Medicare (must do within 8 months of retiring) AND 10% penalty fees on premiums for every 12 months they delay. This is outrageous.

2. This should be good news but one wonders why BO called for this when the system worked so well for him in 2008
Democratic Panel Wants Superdelegates Stripped of ‘Super’ Powers
Looking to avoid a repeat of the prolonged and bitter 2008 primary battle, a Democratic Party panel has recommended that the first-in-the-nation contests be pushed back in the calendar and that so-called “superdelegates” be stripped of their “super” powers.
The DNC Democratic Change Commission rolled out its recommendations Wednesday, marking the first step toward reforming the primary process — something President Obama called for last year.

Part 1
An article from American Thinker by Geoffrey P. Hunt
Barack Obama is on track to have the most spectacularly failed presidency since Woodrow Wilson. In the modern era, we’ve seen several failed presidencies–led by Jimmy Carter and LBJ. Failed presidents have one strong common trait– they are repudiated, in the vernacular, spat out.
Of course, LBJ wisely took the exit ramp early, avoiding a shove into oncoming traffic by his own party. Richard Nixon indeed resigned in disgrace, yet his reputation as a statesman has been partially restored by his triumphant overture to China
But, Barack Obama is failing. Failing big. Failing fast. And failing everywhere: foreign policy, domestic initiatives, and most importantly, in forging connections with the American people. The incomparable Dorothy Rabinowitz in the Wall Street Journal put her finger on it: He is failing because he has no understanding of the American people, and may indeed loathe them. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard says he is failing because he has lost control of his message, and is overexposed. Clarice Feldman of American Thinker produced a dispositive commentary showing that Obama is failing because fundamentally he is neither smart nor articulate; his intellectual dishonesty is conspicuous by its audacity and lack of shame.
He has a personality that is more Muslim than American.
sistermoon3 12.31.09 at 2:16 pm
American Thinker part 2
But, there is something more seriously wrong: How could a new president riding in on a wave of precedented promise and goodwill have forfeited his tenure and become a lame duck in six months? His poll ratings are in free fall. In generic balloting, the Republicans have now seized a five point advantage. This truly is unbelievable. What’s going on?
No narrative. Obama doesn’t have a narrative. No, not a narrative about himself. He has a self-narrative, much of it fabricated, cleverly disguised or written by someone else. But this self-narrative is isolated and doesn’t connect with us. He doesn’t have an American narrative that draws upon the rest of us. All successful presidents have a narrative about the American character that intersects with their own where they display a command of history and reveal an authenticity at the core of their personality that resonates in a positive endearing way with the majority of Americans. We admire those presidents whose narratives not only touch our own, but who seem stronger, wiser, and smarter than we are. Presidents we admire are aspirational peers, even those whose politics don’t align exactly with our own: Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, Harry Truman, Ike, and Reagan.
But not this president. It’s not so much that he’s a phony, knows nothing about economics, and is historically illiterate and woefully small minded for the size of the task–all contributory of course. It’s that he’s not one of us. And whatever he is, his profile is fuzzy and devoid of content, like a cardboard cutout made from delaminated corrugated paper.
Moreover, he doesn’t command our respect and is unable to appeal to our own common sense. His notions of right and wrong are repugnant and how things work just don’t add up. They are not existential. His descriptions of the world we live in don’t make sense and don’t correspond with our experience.
In the meantime, while we’ve been struggling to take a measurement of this man, he’s dissed just about every one of us–financiers, energy producers, banks, insurance executives, police officers, doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, post office workers, and anybody else who has a non-green job. Expect Obama to lament at his last press conference in 2012:
“For those of you I offended, I apologize. For those of you who were not offended, you just didn’t give me enough time; if only I’d had a second term, I could have offended you too.”
Mercifully, the Founders at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 devised a useful remedy for such a desperate state–staggered terms for both houses of the legislature and the executive. An equally abominable Congress can get voted out next year. With a new Congress, there’s always hope of legislative gridlock until we vote for president again two short years after that.
Yes, small presidents do fail, Barack Obama among them. The coyotes howl but the wagon train keeps rolling along.
Margaret Thatcher: “The trouble with Socialism is, sooner or later you run out of other people’s money.”

Thanks for that link, sistermoon3.
“2009 was an extraordinary year in which ordinary people did extraordinary things not because they were the easy things to do, but because they were the right thing to do.”
IMO, far too many Americans have forgotten about doing the right thing , but thankfully not the courageous folks noted in the Surber article. I pray for more such ‘ordinary people’ doing ‘extraordinary things’ in 2010. Our country’s survival depends on it.
Also, I think Katalusis has an excellent post up, quoting a Thomas Merton poem, especially this “…rather than constantly formulating statements in this age which is smothered in language,
in meaningless and inconclusive debate
in which,
in the last analysis,
nobody listens to anything
except
what agrees with his [her] own prejudices.”
This, I fear, may be our undoing: Refusing to hear anything that doesn’t agree with our preconceived notions. http://katalusis.blogspot.com/
Here are my 10 bad things of 2009 to sweep out (how I wish I could!):
1. Worldwide escalation of violence against girls and women to epidemic proportions, coinciding with worldwide escalation of sexism/misogyny to epidemic proportions, coinciding with election of sexist/misogynistic leaders, especially in the U.S.
2. The burka, period.
3. Decision to bring self-admitted 9/11 co-conspirators to NYC and ground zero for civilian trial. Tied with decision to hold the self-admitted, would-be ‘underwear bomber’ in civilian jail, continue to allude to him as a ‘suspect’ (despite the fact that he was dragged out of an airplane with his crotch on fire and found with explosives sewn into his undies!) and provide him with an attorney at U.S. taxpayer expense. Tied with allowing the Ft. Hood shooter to serve in the U.S. military to begin with.
4. The Obamacrat Congressional majority, period.
5. Fannie and Freddie corruption abetted by BO, Emanuel, various Obamacrats.
6. Wall St. corruption and incompetence abetted by BO, Geithner, various Obamacrats.
7. Every so-called czar appointed by BO.
8. The irreparable debasement of the Nobel Peace Prize by its ridiculous award to BO.
9. BO and MO flagrantly squandering hard-earned funds of everyday taxpaying Americans as though the U.S. treasury is their personal piggy bank.
10. BO, Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod, Gibbs, and most of the BO administration, period.

Yes, no more SuperDelegate voting power. Locking the barn after the horse runs away. Two years late and (how many?) trillions of dollars short.
The Dem leaders certainly do not understand their base/former base. And while I despised the Republicans before I despised the Democrats, I am of the opinion that Republican leaders have an accurate feeling for what their base will tolerate in the way of indescretions, slights to their constituents.

To watch their ridiculous pretzel-like contortions of events in a futile attempt to make BO look good, or to make BO look not so bad would have been hilarious were it not so tragic. A number of them (Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann, et al) should be laughed out of tv so-called ‘journalism’ permanently for their ridiculous allegiance to the Fraud. Add to the list the pathetic lecherous has-been so-called comedians of late-night tv such as Letterman.

Tracking Your Taxes: Defense Bill Pays for Prostate Screenings, Sprinkler System
President Obama pledged in August to cut all pork barrel projects from defense spending, threatening to veto any swollen bills that came across his desk — a pledge shattered by nearly 2,000 pet projects that have made their way into the defense budget.
“If a project doesn’t support our troops, we will not fund it,” he said to a meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phoenix. “If a system doesn’t perform, we will terminate it. And if Congress sends me a defense bill loaded with that kind of pork, I will veto it. ”
Just last week, Obama broke his promise as he signed into law the 2010 Defense Appropriations Bill — a $636 billion behemoth loaded with $4.2 billion of pork.
In all, Congress added in 1,720 pet projects, including:
∙$5 million for a visitors center in San Francisco
∙$23 million for indigent health care in Hawaii
∙$18 million for the Edward Kennedy Policy Institute in Massachusetts
∙$1.6 million to computerize hospital records in Oakland
∙$47 million for anti-drug training centers around the country
∙$20 million for the World War II Museum in Louisiana
∙$3.9 million grant to develop an energy-efficient solar film for buildings
∙$800,000 for minority prostate cancer research
∙$3.6 million for marijuana eradication in Kentucky
∙$2.4 million for handicap access and a sprinkler system at a community club in New York

The Obama Disconnect: What Happens when Myth Meets Reality
…snip…
After all, the image of Barack Obama as the candidate of “change”, community organizer, and “hope-monger” (his word), was sold intensively during the campaign. Even after the fact, we were told that his victory represented the empowerment of a bottom-up movement, powered by millions of small donors, grassroots volunteers, local field organizers and the internet. A few examples…bla, bla, bla
…snip…
The truth is that Obama was never nearly as free of dependence on big money donors as the reporting suggested, nor was his movement as bottom-up or people-centric as his marketing implied. And this is the big story of 2009, if you ask me, the meta-story of what did, and didn’t happen, in the first year of Obama’s administration. The people who voted for him weren’t organized in any kind of new or powerful way, and the special interests–banks, energy companies, health interests, car-makers, the military-industrial complex–sat first at the table and wrote the menu. Myth met reality, and came up wanting….

Just for the record and in the interest of factual accuracy, I want to clear up a matter from last night’s thread. This is my last comment on the matter. MA State Senator Scott Brown is not ‘homophobic,’ so far as I can tell from my research. (Also, really, why would the guys at hillbuzz even consider supporting him to the extent of phone banking for him if Brown were ‘homophobic’?) http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2009/11/republican_scott_brown_seeking.html
An excerpt from that Nov. 30 article:
“He said he believes marriage should be between a man and a woman. He also said the issue is settled in this state and he respects the decision to allow gay marriages.”
Here’a link to an article analyzing Brown’s prospects in the U.S. Senate race. http://campaignspot.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MjRlOTgyY2NiYzgwOWU5NDg1MWIzNGM3MDUzZTFmOWM=
Here’s why I care. Strategically, I agree that Brown likely represents the best chance to stop ‘deathcare’ in its tracks this month by destroying the filibuster-proof Obamacrat majority in the Senate — because the MA special election to fill Kennedy’s seat occurs Jan. 19. The rest of the Congressional mid-term elections occur in Nov. — too late to make a difference on the hc vote. The question is not why Brown opposes ‘deathcare’ (which is so obviously bad for every American, particularly women and seniors, that the overwhelming majority of Americans oppose it) but rather why Coakley — who’s being supported by BO and the Obamacrats — supports ‘deathcare.’ Perhaps she needs to be asked that question by those who live in MA. Thanks. Sending a double donation to PUMA PAC in gratitude for graciously allowing me to clear this up.

Just to be clear as I said there is no way in Hell Brown will get elected, no way. He is a freaking republican in a Blue state running for ole buggeroffkennedy seat, never going to take the seat.
The hillbuzz boys can filibuster a century or two won’t help.
I just want Brown to get a healthy size of the vote to show the Dems they are cooked, stick a fork in em. It was a good deal when Kerry got a jolt on his last election….he lost ground. Someone finally ran against him and made a dent in the armor.

Mayo Clinic in Arizona to Stop Treating Some Medicare Patients
Dec. 31 (Bloomberg) — The Mayo Clinic, praised by President Barack Obama as a national model for efficient health care, will stop accepting Medicare patients as of tomorrow at one of its primary-care clinics in Arizona, saying the U.S. government pays too little.

And the healthcare Bill proposes to cut Medicare by half a trillion? I’ll repost this again when everyone is in the mood to do something about this. Until then – Happy New Year again – may 2010 be better for everyone (((((PUMAS)))))

Sweep out the whole word and DE-meaning limits of the word feminist. Women are people, not “ists” and as such are not all frilly feminin or vampidly ignorant. They are intelligent, brave and strong awa many other things.
What ALL women are NOT are barbie dolls.
