Health care reform is dead. Long live health care reform!
What Hillary Is 44 said:
“Hillary supporters know that universal health care died in Denver in 2008. What is going on now is a mere masquerade, a charade in the age of fake to bamboozle the electorate.
Examples of the deceit and boobery abound – Roland Burris won’t vote for legislation that does not include a public option but the public option is dead; the Big Blog Boys pretend it is news that the Dimocrats are involved in a “murder/suicide” crime of historic proportions. We wrote about the Democratic suicide in real time, as it was happening – in August 2008, in Denver, at the convention.”
(h/t Puma-SF)
Oh, and I guess Senatorial privilege includes calling a flight attendant a Bitch for doing her job:
“Schumer and his seatmate, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), were chatting on their phones before takeoff when an announcement indicated that it was time to turn off the phones. Both Senators kept talking.
According to the GOP aide, a flight attendant then approached Schumer and told him the entire plane was waiting on him to shut down his phone.
Schumer asked if he could finish his conversation. When the flight attendant said “no,” Schumer ended his call but continued to argue his case.
He said he was entitled to keep his phone on until the cabin door was closed. The flight attendant said he was obliged to turn it off whenever a flight attendant asked.
“He argued with her about the rule,” the source said. “She said she doesn’t make the rules, she just follows them.”
When the flight attendant walked away, the witness says Schumer turned to Gillibrand and . . .” CALLED HER A BITCH.*
Edited — in the original Politico story, the sentence ends with “and uttered the B-word.” I really don’t think that tepid description carries the weight of Schumer’s.
Maybe

Murphy im not surprised that Schumer would do that at all, most of the congress thinks we are all bitches if we dont agree with them. This is how they treat all of us isnt it. Our way or the highway attitudes. We are just little ole tax payers, hell, if i thought all of us could just not pay our taxes, they would wake up out of their zombie minds and acknowledge it is WE THE PEOPLE, not We The Government
sistermoon3 12.16.09 at 10:15 am
and what’s up with this mindset that it’s better to pass an unpopular healthcare (whatever it is) than none at all. If this is their idea of a gag gift for Christmas, they win we lose.

I was thinking about the onetermpresident and his giving himself a solid B+ grade…and an A- when health care is passed. That is very telling, I wish Oprah would have asked him and what grade if its not passed? He is a big fat F with it and without it.
But if he thinks he is a B+ then I wish Oprah would have asked him to grade Hillary? Would he give her the deserving A+ ? Give her a higher grade than himself?
That would have been very interesting to hear I hope someone asks him that question..

New energy-efficient LED traffic lights can’t melt snow, cities discover
By Associated Press
December 16, 2009, 9:34AM
MILWAUKEE — Cities around the country that have installed energy-efficient traffic lights are discovering a hazardous downside: The bulbs don’t burn hot enough to melt snow and can become crusted over in a storm — a problem blamed for dozens of accidents and at least one death.
“I’ve never had to put up with this in the past,” said Duane Kassens, a driver from West Bend who got into a fender-bender recently because he couldn’t see the lights. “The police officer told me the new lights weren’t melting the snow. How is that safe?”
Many communities have switched to LED bulbs in their traffic lights because they use 90 percent less energy than the old incandescent variety, last far longer and save money. Their great advantage is also their drawback: They do not waste energy by producing heat.
Authorities in several states are testing possible solutions, including installing weather shields, adding heating elements like those used in airport runway lights, or coating the lights with water-repellent substances.
Short of some kind of technological fix, “as far as I’m aware, all that can be done is to have crews clean off the snow by hand,” said Green Bay, Wis., police Lt. Jim Runge. “It’s a bit labor-intensive.”
In St. Paul, Minn., for example, city crews use air compressors to blow snow and ice off blocked lights.

AP named Tiger Woods ‘Athlete of the Decade.’ He beat out tour de France multi-time winner Lance Armstrong and Grand Slam singles multi-time champ Roger Federer. The proven sexist/misogynistic Associated press must admire Woods’ athletic ability of not being able to keep it in his pants almost as much as his golfing achievements. Somehow, given the lying, cheating Woods’ 14 mistressess (at last count), this still seems like as much of a travesty as BO’s ‘Peas Prize.’
P.S. Though I’m enormously relieved that neither BO nor Pelosi won Time magazine’s Person of the Year, I’m disappointed that the Iran protestors didn’t. They displayed far more courage than Bernanke ever even considered displaying (or having).

“Hillary’s plan will FORCE you to have Health Care, my plan will only be an option and will not cost taxpayers below $250k a dime. She will fine those that do not have coverage, I will not.”
I will end the war in Iraq and bring the troops home….I will bring the troops home in 18 months, I will send some troops to Afganistan…I will end the war and send troops somewhere for some amount of time…ah, ah, I will get the Peace Price for empty promises.”

I have a silly question, if the new Health Care ‘bill’ in the Senate passes without a public option……….other than just passing a bill with that HC title, what is it?
Is there any new coverage for the uninsured in 5-7 years, or is it just a way of collecting our increased taxes to pay Pharma?

Indeed, the only place where Clinton has perhaps trodden on her boss’ toes is in the popularity stakes. While Obama has become the focus of domestic discontent that has seen his approval ratings slump to below 50 per cent in some polls, Clinton has gone from strength to strength. In October, one Gallup survey had Clinton’s approval rating at 62 per cent. She graced the cover of Time magazine last month under the headline ”The State of Hillary”. One pundit approvingly dubbed her ”America’s Iron Lady”.
In an era of celebrity politics, Clinton certainly holds her own with Obama. Her name and her face are among the most recognisable in the world. Her presence at an event, or her visit to a foreign county, guarantees a slew of media coverage. ”Obama is a celebrity president. She is a celebrity secretary of state,” said Isobel Coleman, senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

And this guy (Jane Hamsher) posted this:
On MSNBC, I was asked what I thought about Howard Dean’s call to kill the Senate bill.
I agree with him. From what we know about the bill, it is worse than passing nothing.
…snip…
What the President said in September:
But while nobody was looking, Harry Reid slipped in an “arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year”:
The President Obama also said that “what ever ideas exist in terms of bending the cost curve and starting to reduce cost for families, businesses, and government, those elements are in this bill.” Not true either.
As we speak, Frank Lautenberg and Kay Hagen are destroying Byron Dorgan’s drug reimportation amendment by making a bunch of bullshit claims about drug safety.

Puma-SF 12.16.09 at 2:13 pm
I posted the following comment on a previous thread re Woods’ philandering, and went searching for it to repost here (Murphy liked the comment.) I do recognize Woods’ fame “was built on something not just smoke and mirrors” as compared with BO’s. But, Woods’ philandering is sexist/misogynistic at its core, IMO. While I recognize his achievements as a golfer, I also must call out and object to his sexism/misogyny as a serial philanderer. To me, that cancels out the golf achievements because his sexism/misogyny is as reprehensible (if not moreso) in terms of his position as a role model as is the domestic violence and drug abuse of other athletes.
—–
“I certainly don’t label the [women]. I do, however, call Tiger just as big a jackass as all the other males who so cavalierly betray their families. He can apologize about his ‘transgression’ all he wants. I don’t buy it, and I question how he can call a long-term affair a ‘transgression.’ IMO, his behavior, like that of many males who betray their families, boils down to pure narcissistic male ego –which women and the world in general spend far too much time stroking. In particular, male egos already receiving lots of public attention and lots of money seem to believe they’re entitled to collect women like trophies and other shiny objects, for that is how they view women — as objects to be consumed. Perhaps, however, if women started genuinely respecting themselves and other women as authentic, independent, individual human beings, and insisting in every instance that they be treated not as objects but as persons, they would certainly have better things to do with their lives than be available every time the male ego comes calling. Also, I tend to agree that marriage is a rather overrated and outdated institution, though I don’t question others’ decisions to enter into it. I do tend to believe that it typically benefits men far more than it benefits women, of course with some notable exceptions.”

They say they want to encourage dialogue via these billboards. Great. I’ll start.

MoveOnDotBullshit just sent me this:
It’s outrageous: Joe Lieberman is single-handedly blocking our best chance at strong health care reform in years!
In less than 24 hours MoveOn members have donated an astounding $650,000 to send Lieberman home for good. That’s awesome—thank you! Now we’re aiming to raise $1 million together.
If we can hit that goal, we’ll have the resources to make sure every voter in Connecticut knows that Senator Lieberman has been standing in the way of reform and to push Senate Democrats to take away his chairmanship.
——-
This is my reply:
Joe Lieberman is a hero, he stopped this BS, pretend health care bill and don’t ask me for a cent to support your terrible organization again!

Another Cinie winner:
Hillary Clinton, Hiding In Plain Sight?
Could it be that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is not only the smartest person in the room, but has a little Pythia in her, to boot? Could the pejorative “witch” appellation be accurate in the nicest, ultimate feminine magical, mystical Goddess powers sense of the word when applied to her? Did she presciently foresee the current implosion of the Obotocratic party long in advance and cleverly maneuver herself into a public safe place of hiding?
Especially where health care reform is concerned, it’s hard not to argue that she realized from the beginning that her turncoat fair weather friends would not only happily burn down their own house, but enthusiastically gather kindling and siphon off gasoline from their own foreign cars to douse it with before setting their own hair on fire in order to light the fuse of the already assembled, waiting pipe bomb, just for the dubious honor of being the one who either sends the whole kit and caboodle up in flames, or torches the rest of the neighborhood in a misguided attempt to spare their empty house while scorching the Earth of her memory. So, reading the tea leaves, looks like she taw early on that curiously, she was the designated puddytat on the wall with a big, red, “X” stamped on it, and wisely got herself the hell out of dodge, took the cream, and the canary found a comfortable perch in the catbird seat to innocently await the inevitable 3 a.m. call:
A new poll of avid news watchers shows that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has a much higher approval rating than the man she once campaigned against and now works for, President Barack Obama.
In the poll of 800 registered voters who are self-identified “news watchers,” Clinton had a 75 percent approval rating and a 21 percent disapproval rating overall. Obama, in contrast, had a 51 percent approval and a 45 percent disapproval rating.
Of course, it didn’t really take a crystal ball to see this one coming. All over the PUMAsphere, bloggers are angrily penning “we tolda so, suckers!” pieces in response to those Obot For America suckophants who so eagerly tortured anybody who tried to warn them of the inevitability of their coming disappointment in the entire Obministration once the KoolAid wore off, and now, are littering the internet with hilariously gut-wrenching first-hand accounts of being tortured themselves upon awakening with the debilitating pain of withdrawal.

This wireless phone company, CREDO, is the latest iteration of Working Assets. Working Assets’ co-founder is Drummond Pike of the Tides Foundation/Tides Center. George Soros gives Tides lots of money via his various organizations. ACORN is among the organizations to which Tides gives money (so, I guess it follows that some of the money going to ACORN comes from Soros). Drummond Pike is the guy who paid back most of the money that Dale Rathke embezzled from ACORN. Wade Rathke, Dale’s brother, founded ACORN and is at least a co-founder of SEIU (Service Employees International Union). Wade Rathke is a member of the Tides Center board. Incestuous, no? Both Pike and Rathke were ’60s student radicals, one from the west coast, the other from the east coast.

I was just saying over at RD’s, I was reading the Obama Lovers’ blogs this morning and, honestly, I almost felt sorry for them—until I remembered how they treated us all like dog crap. So I went out to breakfast instead.
I have to admit I don’t feel sorry for Dean either. He created this mess now he will just have to live knowing people are going to die thanks to no health care reform.I mean he even gave the guy free delegates. Dean bears a great deal of blame for all of this. I wonder how he likes the feeling of being called “Irrelevant”. I don’t even want to be under the same bus with him.

“WMCB, on December 16th, 2009 at 9:27 pm Said:
The popularity of the Tea Party movement is not necessarily a rise of doctrinaire conservatism, IMO. But it’s a very good measure of just how PISSED OFF a huge number of Americans are, for a variety of reasons.
It’s popular because there they are saying FUCK YOU to Washington, you are not listening to we the people.
This is beyond agreeing/not agreeing on ideology, from what I’m hearing from my non-political neighbors. It’s about pure anger at a clueless, unresponsive, unaccountable, arrogant pack of crooks on both sides of the aisle. Scratch that, its past anger and approaching rage. Dismissing it as just a bunch of astro-turfed wingers is a very dangerous thing to do, if that’s what the Beltway thinks.”

Here is a prime example and proof that no one not even BO reads what they are signing into law….
Typo in Law Establishes Mandate to Lock Gun-Toting Train Passengers in Boxes
Harry Houdini made a career escaping from locked boxes. So did David Copperfield and Doug Henning.
And now, add to that list Amtrak passengers packing heat in their luggage?
It may sound absurd. But President Obama signed a bill into law Wednesday that requires passengers who carry firearms aboard Amtrak be locked in boxes for their journey.
It’s a mistake in the law’s wording. But for now, the clerical error is the law of the land.

Who is the “Big Pink Person of the Year”? It’s actually a group of people.
The people who “for better or worse has most influenced events” in 2009 and therefore are the Big Pink Person Of the Year: The NObama Coalition.
This NObama Coalition includes all those websites, particularly the Hillary supporters’ websites who have proudly jumped on the barricades and shouted, flags waving, “Resist!, Resist!”
The NObama coalition has its origins in August 2008. The fight began over “the character of the Democratic Party as well as about its core principles”.
Dean/Obama/Brazille/Pelosi are now addressing the question of sexism (they have yet to denounce Obama for his sexist comments -or his race-baiting or his gay-bashing) as if they were Columbus on a newly mapped world.
The reason why Dean/Obama/Brazille/Pelosi are now referencing a tiny portion of what transpired during the primaries is simple: they want our votes.
Dean/Obama/Brazille/Pelosi along with oldtime and freshly minted Obama supporters who want Democrats to “fall in line” and support Obama are demanding that Hillary supporters “honor” Hillary by supporting Obama. Ain’t gonna happen.
Mothers are wise. Perhaps you have heard a parent say, or you yourself have said “If your friends jump off a cliff, (or out a window) will you jump too?” All our respect for Hillary guarantees is that when Hillary speaks, we listen. But we are not lemmings, we are not automatons, we do not live in dens filled with Hopium. We make up our own minds on who gets our votes.
If there was a mechanism whereby Hillary supporters could support the eventually nominee, whether that is Hillary or Obama or anyone else, and yet also have a way to remove those who stoked the race-baiting, gay-bashing and woman-hating of the primaries; a way to reject the ugly New Democratic Party Obama wants to create – perhaps then an argument could be made for voting for the Democratic nominee no matter who she or he is.
But that mechanism does NOT exist.

…In the case of health care reform, Pelosi credited House Democrats with having saved Obama’s initiative after the onslaught of attacks during the August recess. And if the Senate can complete its bill this month, she will work to try to send a House-Senate compromise to the White House before the State of the Union.

Poll: Obama approval dips below 50 percent
47 percent say his overhaul is a bad idea, 55 percent support Afghan surge

This survey underscores what I consider a dramatic and unmistakable change in the political landscape,” said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted the survey with GOP pollster Bill McInturff. “For Democrats, the red flags are flying at full mast.”
“The sagging economy is beginning to drag him down,” McInturff added. “This is increasingly becoming President Obama’s economy.”
Deep dissatisfaction with nation’s direction
Underlining the entire poll is a deep dissatisfaction with the current state of the country. Only 33 percent believe the nation is headed in the right direction — an eight-point drop since Obama took office.

Obama at Home Depot:
“The simple act of retro-fitting”” – installing new windows, doors, cooling and heating equipment, etc. – “is one of the fastest, easiest and cheapest things we can do to put Americans back to work while saving money and reducing harmful emissions,” Obama continued. (11:19 a.m.)

Insulation, new windows and doors and energy efficient equipment/appliances is going to save the economy? With state and local and utility bills going up, people have less money to spend on this newest Obama scheme.
Obama already included home weatherization in his $787 billion stimulus package which was dedicated to green projects and was suppose create jobs for people. The thing is, spending at home improvement stores has been one of the weakest areas of retail sales, with sales down 13%.
Can green jobs really turn this economy around? Economists don’t think so.

SIEU has started a jobs training program for retrofitting homes. So, they are getting stimulus money to train people for jobs where there is no demand? Wonder what that stimulus money is really going towards.

Right Direction or Wrong Track
30% Still Say U.S. Moving In Right Direction
Just 30% of U.S. voters say the country is heading in the right direction, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national survey. This is the third straight week in a row at 30%, the lowest finding on this question since mid-February.
The majority of voters (63%) continue to believe the nation is heading down the wrong track. Although this finding is down from last week, it has remained fairly consistent for months. In the weeks just prior to Barack Obama’s election, however, more than 80% of voters felt that way.
The percentage of voters who felt the country is heading in the right direction had remained in the narrow range of 31% to 35% from July to early November.

What new tax will they think of next?
Pittsburgh mayor to push for tuition tax vote
(AP) – 1 day ago
PITTSBURGH — The mayor of Pittsburgh will push for a first-of-its-kind tax on student tuition this week after a special meeting with the city’s universities failed to resolve the dispute over the levy.
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl met Monday with college officials to discuss other ways to remedy the city’s pension woes. But the meeting made little progress.
Ravenstahl had set a Monday deadline for universities and other tax-exempt nonprofits to agree to pay $5 million annually to the city.
Without an agreement, Ravenstahl will ask City Council to vote on the 1 percent tuition tax, which would be the first of its kind in the nation. The schools say they are willing to negotiate if the tax is taken off the table.
A vote could come Wednesday.

Care for the Careless
Dear Sirs:
“During my last night’s shift in the ER, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient with an expensive shiny gold tooth, multiple elaborate expensive tattoos, a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and a new cellular telephone equipped with her favorite R&B tune for a ringtone.. Glancing over the chart, one could not help noticing her payer status: Medicaid. She smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and, somehow, still has money to buy beer.
And our Congress expects me to pay for this woman’s healthcare? Our nation’s healthcare crisis is not a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. It is a crisis of culture of a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on vices while refusing to take care of one’s self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. A culture that thinks “I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me”. Life is really not that hard. Most of us reap what we sow. Don’t you agree?

Al Gore called on President Obama to pass global warming bill by April 22 – Earth Day
Former Vice President Al Gore called on President Barack Obama to pass a climate bill by April 22 — the next Earth Day – in a Tuesday speech at the international climate talks in Copenhagen.
“As a citizen of the United States, and no more, I will ask those among my fellow citizens who share my sense of urgency to join in asking President Obama and the leadership of the United States Senate to set a deadline of April 22, 2010—the 40th anniversary of Earth Day—for final action on U.S. legislation,” Gore said.

Congratulations on your 4.0 grade point average. That takes alot of hard work. Be careful though, it can become a curse. I went back to school in my late 30’s and got a 4.0 my first term. So I worked to do the same thing my second term. 8 terms later I was still working my butt off to maintain that 4.0 average and I ended up graduating as class valedictorian, but it was brutal studying all the time and taking care of a whiney husband, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat and a house and yard. After I graduated I went to Fla to a clinic to build back up my health. Just remember that you don’t have to be perfect. Of course if you have a supportive family, that really helps.

Thanks BigCatLover. Don’t worry, I’m far from a perfectionist. I’ve been back in school since last year. I finally started this year just going for the classes in my major. This is the first semester I got a 4.0. I’ve always done well but usually not that well plus I’m happy because these are classes that really apply to what I will be doing.
I do have a very supportive family so that help a great deal.

That’s good to hear – it sounds like you’ve got everything well in hand. I hated to sound like a downer, but when you said the other day that you needed to get up and get to work on helping women in need, I worried that you may be trying to do too much. Enjoy you holidays and your break from school.

BigCatLover,
Oh, the other day when I said I had to get off my butt was to go Christmas Shopping. LOL. I had just sat around for 2 days and if I do that for too long it is hard to get going again so I had to make myself get moving.
I don’t start the shelter until January.
Okay, off to get more done. I feel Christmas closing in on me. I always have the big get together at my house and I haven’t even started preparing yet. Yikes.
Have a great day!

Wow! I was catching up and read your comment about being valedictorian while married with two kids. Very impressive.
The perfectionist problem – my little girl cries and freaks out if she thinks she misspelled a word on her spelling test! I am doing my best to convince her that mistakes are NORMAL.
