From the tales of a young American traveling alone in India who is confronting the adamant misogyny of a profoundly beautiful culture and hasn’t quite become angry enough to withdraw into her own talents and create rather than continue to bang her head against that Anne Frank wall of “understanding people,” to the story of the 16 year old whipped for wearing a skirt, to the philandering, the murdering, and the just plain flat out ugliness of it all . . .
I feel like a curmudgeonly old lady, full of vinegary advice. Nothing about the innocence of youth seems sweet to me today.

Projection: Swiss vote to ban new minarets
By ALEXANDER G. HIGGINS (AP) – 2 hours ago
GENEVA — Swiss voters approved a move to ban the construction of minarets in a Sunday vote on a right-wing initiative that labeled the mosque towers as symbols of militant Islam, projections by a widely respected polling institute showed.
The projections based on partial returns say Swiss swung from only 37 percent supporting the proposal a week ago to 59 percent in the actual voting.
Claude Longchamp, leader of the widely respected gfs.bern polling institute, said the projection contracted by state-owned DRS television forecasts approval of the initiative by more than half the country’s 26 cantons, meaning it will become a constitutional amendment.
The nationalist Swiss People’s Party describes minarets, the distinctive spires used in most countries for calls to prayer, as symbols of rising Muslim political and religious power that could eventually turn Switzerland into an Islamic nation.
Muslims make up about 6 percent of Switzerland’s 7.5 million people. Many Swiss Muslims are refugees from the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s. Fewer than 13 percent practice their religion, the government says, and Swiss mosques do not broadcast the call to prayer outside their buildings.
“Forced marriages and other things like cemeteries separating the pure and impure — we don’t have that in Switzerland, and we do not want to introduce it” said Ulrich Schlueer, co-president of the Initiative Committee to ban minarets.

People’s Party lawmaker Walter Wobmann said minarets are part of Muslims’ strategy to make Switzerland Islamic. He said he feared Shariah law, which would create “parallel societies” where honor killings, forced marriages and even stoning are practiced.

The thought of a Muslim Switzerland is chilling. The epitome of impartiality and common sense in the modern world becoming regressive and oppressive is especially repugnant.
Swannie 11.29.09 at 10:58 am
Deb, the Alinsky stuff is intolerable … to dehumanise people to achieve ones goal of “helping people ” is insane , in that it is the absolute lie and pretense for grabbing power. it makes a mockery of any real progress toward humanity while pretending to know better “for people” that what they choose for themselves .
“The American Radical will fight privilege and power whether it be inherited or acquired by any small group, whether it be political or financial or organized creed.
“He curses a caste system which he recognizes despite all patriotic denials.
“He will fight conservatives whether they are business or labor leaders.
“He will fight any concentration of power hostile to a broad, popular democracy, whether he finds it in financial circles or in politics.
“The Radical recognizes that constant dissension and conflict is and has been the fire under the boiler of democracy. He firmly believes in that brave saying of a brave people, “Better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!”
“The Radical may resort to the sword but when he does he is not filled with hatred against those individuals whom he attacks. He hates these individuals not as persons but as symbols representing ideas or interests which he believes to be inimical to the welfare of the people.
“That is the reason why Radicals, although frequently embarking upon revolutions, have rarely resorted to personal terrorism.”
Any basic course in logic can and will easily refute the principles here … you cannot dehumanise some people to bring equality to all …Alinsky is a moron …. how can anyone promote this for educators ?
DancesWithPumas 11.29.09 at 11:00 am
Cool. Maybe the US will adopt some of teh same stances and we won’t have to hear christian church bells going off incessantly,
or have to convert to catholocism to me married to a catlick in church, or deny our sexuality to practice catholism, and hopefully the christian

DancesWithPumas 11.29.09 at 11:05 am

it’s bullshit to say there aren’t freedom of expression issues here. Of course there are. But to equate the Call to Prayer 5x a day (one of the most beautiful sounds in the world to obama, but a sound that would have me running for the hills) with church bells that simply toll the goddamned time is ridiculous. In fact right now the bells outside my window are ringing 12 times. Not menacing at all.
On the other hand, what Switzerland has done is not simple and it’s a pretty big deal. They seem to be heading into the territory of classifying Islam itself, the religion, as a hateful system of thought incompatible with democracy.
that’s unfreakingbelievable really.

———————
xtian bells simple tolling the hour, or calling followers to sunday mass, may not be menacing to anyone dulled to commonality of internalized oppression, but, for some of us it’s a constant reminder of the shaft / ribbing of Eve, Lilith, Mary Magdalene, the burning of generations of witches, the co-opting of Paganism, the consistent subservient postitioning of women in the church, and the continuation of the denial of women’s rites and reproductive rights.
The church may not feel as menacing now because the bells are beautious and turn everything to pastel, but there were times when the church represented blood and death and everything they pretend to be against.
The media may have softened and become part of daily life but the political positions remain the same.

My grandmother once told me that bells ringing meant that at that moment all our thoughts become prayers,sent out to the universe,so let your thoughts be of thanks to universe for all the positive that surrounds you. because a Thank you is sometimes the only prayer you need.
Maybe this will help. Because when I hear the bells for that one minute a week I am reminded to look around me and think of the beauty of mother earth, mother nature and say thank you and visualize it being carried out in to the universe.
Not trying to be corny just trying to hopefully give you something to focus on when hearing the bells????

If this is where they’re headed, I agree with the Swiss. IMO, ‘Islam’ really is NOT a religion (certainly not one teaching peace, love, kindness), but is rather a fascist, dogmatic cult, the core of which is teaching hatred and destruction by any means necessary of any non-Islamic belief system or way of life.

Interesting thread at freeusnow. http://freemenow.wordpress.com/2009/11/28/muslims-in-21st-century-america-harsh-treatment-of-muslim-women/
Excerpts:
“Islamic Law dominates its adherents with fear and futility. If a drunken Muslim drives over five people resulting in their deaths, he will be arrested for breaking of the law. But Muslims call it, “Allah’s will” and will not condemn him. The reason you heard nothing from Muslims in America concerning the Fort Hood massacre stems from the fact that their belief system says that Major Hasan followed “Allah’s will.” If they question Allah’s will, they will become non-believers and subject to brutal consequences from Allah.
In Western thought, you could call it a “Catch 22″. For the United States and much of Europe, we find ourselves in a cultural “Catch 22″, and, at some point, it will boil into violence. As I said, Mark Twain’s ’silent-assertion’ cannot continue without a response. Islam in America, at some point, will cause violent confrontation. If not confronted, Islam will become the new cultural paradigm in America: thus taking Western civilization back into the Dark Ages of the 6th century where Islam began.”
FLBarbara 11.29.09 at 1:46 pm
While the Islamic call to prayer may sound as if it is the most beautiful sound on earth, it is not until you realize that those gathered are praying for what no other “religion” prays for,they pray that the word of the prophet Muhammad is carried out, that being the death of all the unbelievers, the infidel, and that Islamic law will rule the world, and anyone who tells you differently has not read the Habith, the spoken words of Muhammad.
I commend the Swiss who have said our laws are not compatible with Sharia law. We do not stone and behead women because they disobey a “religious law”
And I am doing the happy dance that it is womens voices that are leading the choir.
And I commend France who has said Sharia law is not compatible with their laws, we do not cover our women from head to toe..
Now if we could get our own POTUS to say Islams contributions to the world SUCK.

Another reason to keep up the pressure opposing Obamacare: The Senate bill contains what looks like a VAT tax. Newsmax article excerpt:
“The Senate bill’s “fee” on medical devices operates much like a VAT, and could end up being the model for future adoption of an unprecedented VAT on all goods and services in the United States.
Deep into the 2,074-page bill, on page 2,020, is “SEC. 9009,” the “Imposition of Annual Fee on Medical Device Manufacturers and Importers.” It orders that “Each covered entity engaged in the business of manufacturing or importing medical devices shall pay to the [Treasury] Secretary not later than the annual payment date of each calendar year beginning after 2009 a fee in an amount determined under subsection (b).”
The amount of tax would be based on “gross receipts from medical device sales.” Treasury bureaucrats would have the formidable power of “identification of medical devices” and the new tax would be retroactive, applying to “any medical device sales after December 31, 2008.”"
That means the tax would apply to any medical device sales during 2009, presumably including such devices as artificial joints and prosthetics.

Well, “down home” for Thanksgiving, my cousin had my favorite response to hearing about the burqa Barbie. She asked indignantly, “Where’s the Wiccan Barbie?”
Zee 11.30.09 at 1:19 am
Regarding minarets and church bells. Well, one of the only good things about religions in general is the beauty of their buildings. Usually that is to the benefit of all.
However, I applaud the Swiss banning of the minaret. Any oppressive and intimidating structures or symbols of dominance should be banned, and I hope that becomes the norm here …including the hideous oversized Mormon temples. I had to drive by the ghastly Mormon fortress in Maryland outside DC. It’s an abomination on the landscape, and in typical cult fashion, they allowed outsiders in once, at the “opening” and then gutted and burned and refitted everything in the temple that was “defiled” by nonbelievers. You have to see this scar inflicted on the land to believe it…it’s like something out of a evil empire in a scifi novel. These mega-structures need to be outlawed.
Our skylines and airwaves should be protected. And, as much as I might like the sound of bells I’ve been wondering why in hell the church down the street gets to determine when I wake up every blasted Sunday morning? Can I mount a musical device on the roof of my house and blare it whenever I determine the entire neighborhood needs to hear it? No? Then they can stfu on Sunday mornings.

Um, FL Barb…you sound as if you misunderstand. My cousin would approve of a Wiccan Barbie. She wasn’t equating them.
And you sound as if you’re lumping the Mormon temple in with any run-of-the-mill Jewish synagog or Catholic Church. They’re in no way comparable. Have you SEEN that Mormon monstrosity in DC off the Beltway? And, yes, the Mormons are for total assimilation… You can’t just waltz in if you’re not a member of the cult, the way you might visit some church or attend a church wedding even if you’re not a member. They’re fortresses.
Islam is not the only religious/cult assault on our secular freedoms which we need to guard against. Witness the Mormons, Xtian fundies and Catholics who are screwing with the civil rights of gays and women in our marriage laws and health care access.
But leaving ideology aside for one moment, and focusing on the minaret, as a monument, there are building restrictions galore in our zoning laws. We need to include *all* such obscenely oversized religious intrusions, so that none of them can seek to dominate the landscape. Any mall-sized or Disney World-scaled megachurch is an abomination. Horrible and dangerous trend.
As for the ideological threat completely aside from the symbolic size of the buildings, any of the toxic patriarchal religions could metastasize into an Islamic-level cancer on the rest of us at any time. The Handmaiden’s Tale is probably the most important cautionary tale of our time.

My opinion of the sequel is exactly the same: We screwed up, we got in a war, now we have to win it.
Maybe not a popular position, but I DO want the US to be strong and to be safe. The Taliban/Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan need to be diffused and kept in check OVER THERE.
I’m thankful for our military, though they need to keep a better eye on the enemies within, too.

Thing is, al qaeda is a hydra… no central location, no bureaucratic hierarchy, etc., much like the anti-nuke US affinity groups of the ’80s. We’re not fighting the government of afghanistan… the president is one of our US oil boys.

The US hasn’t (can’t) declare war either because war is state vs state and the dumbya bush / dumber obama “wars” don’t fit the definition of war.
snowtigerredux 11.30.09 at 11:30 am
Morning all.
There is no comparison between Christians Jews Hindus even scientologists and islam. Only islam divides the world in to the “House of islam” and the “house of war”. Only islam uses murder to expand it’s philosophy and retain its adherents. Apostates are subject to being killed.
The rest just annoy everyone else with their preaching and door to door selling of their religion.
As to their political activism, as long as they stay within the confines of the law, their motivations are meaningless. They, like everyone else have to convince the majority that their ideas are good public policy.
Oh and ALL religions want everyone else to join their “true faith”. Only islam slaughters or enslaves those who dis agree.
Isn’t it revealing that France and Switzerland are leading the west in the opposition to islamification?
How expandable

Michael Moore Asks If Obama Has Drunk The Bush Kool Aid
Posted on November 30, 2009
This is going to leave a mark. Of course, Obama listens to no one but Obama and his political advisers, clueless all (found during a venture into the fever swamps of the DU)
Monday, November 30th, 2009
Dear President Obama,
Do you really want to be the new “war president”? If you go to West Point tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8pm) and announce that you are increasing, rather than withdrawing, the troops in Afghanistan, you are the new war president. Pure and simple. And with that you will do the worst possible thing you could do — destroy the hopes and dreams so many millions have placed in you. With just one speech tomorrow night you will turn a multitude of young people who were the backbone of your campaign into disillusioned cynics. You will teach them what they’ve always heard is true — that all politicians are alike. I simply can’t believe you’re about to do what they say you are going to do. Please say it isn’t so.

I believe the key to winning in Afhanistna and elsewhere lies in understanding the progression of “revolution” as means of “social change”
First, they engage in isolated incidents of terror. Assasinations bombings etc. This instigates an expanded security response which the terrorist promote as repression. Civilian operatives stage demonstrations, preferably violent ones, against the security measures.
The terrs increases activities to squad size attacking government institutions and the power structure. Such as banking systems and power grids.
This instigates even stricter security measures. Which of course is even greater repression. Eventually the government in power is seen as a dictatorship and the terrs move into full scale military operations and the political arena. Ending in the control of the government.
Thats the basic program.

For six years, White has faithfully produced a number that is critical to shaping the legacy of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan: the death toll.
Every day, White, 51, updates a Web site he launched in 2003, icasualties.org, to keep count of the dead: American troops, coalition troops, contractors and Iraqi civilians. He eventually began documenting deaths in Afghanistan as well.

CodePINK is less hypocritical than Moore because they’ve been pressuring Zerobama from the get go, so they’ve been true to their own mission, but I don’t like them giving an out to the “morans” who thought they were voting for some mythical creature because they voted for the slogans instead of the reality.

Yep…we need to undermine them from within. Social change. And that includes rebranding “nonviolent” measures to include DENOUNCING burqas and Islamic human rights outrages. I am sick to death of hearing “progressives” apologize for Islam’s archaic ways by pointing out the ancient history of other oppressive religions. Fine. Now, denounce Islam, too, and make them join the rest of the civilized world in the 21st century!
Even more crazy-making…coddling even ONE woman who “wants” to wear the oppressive cloth yokes and masks. How about supporting the women who want to be FREE and are instead getting acid thrown on them, stoned or beheaded…or the modern equivalent, run over by a car.
These same Obots are now chattering all over the web, trying to make this Islam-coddling a “progressive” cause. We can’t let it be framed as a right-left divide. If the antiwar crowd are so against violence, let them start by denouncing Islamic violence, and stop calling it a religion of “peace” —and the latest utter bullshit is the meme that it’s also a religion of “equality” because men and women are mentioned the same number of times in the Koran! It would almost be a comical claim if women weren’t being shackled, beaten, disfigured, and slaughtered. I guess the fact that they have to worship in the basements of mosques is an example of “separate but equal.” And that is the *best* they are treated!

Freedom of religion, where are the churches in Islamic countries? Would Omar allow me to preach Christianity in Iran? Crap my ass would be in jail and I would be stoned before Omar could give his title. “Integration Representative”? WTF

Hmmm. Before I go, this is the response I got from Mattel about Burqa Barbie. Glad it’s NOT for sale. Yeeah!
Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to respond.
In this case, Italian artist and designer Eliana Lorena used Barbie as a model to showcase her interpretation of cultural dress from around the world. Barbie was literally her canvas and the outfits were the artist’s personal expression. This was one of the 500 different Barbie dolls representing 500 different cultures that were auctioned at a charity event. Barbie has no religious affiliation and we have no plans to make commercial editions of the dolls. These dolls are not available for sale.

The Swiss-bashing is ridiculous in some corners of the web. They’re not banning mosques, just the minarets. Hell, if they wanted to use the Islamic method, they’d just BOMB the mosques, the way the Muslims bombed those beautiful giant ancient Buddha statues carved in the mountainsides.

Here’s my preliminary draft e-mail for Julia Onken. Comments welcome. Gotta go do errands. BBL.
“Dear Julia,
I am one of millions of American women who applaud your successful work to ban construction of Islamic minarets in Switzerland. I view the Swiss minaret ban as a clear signal to the world that Switzerland will preserve its democratic, free culture, a culture that absolutely will not tolerate the oppression of women or the insistence that Islamic Sharia law be followed instead of Swiss law. I view the Swiss minaret ban as a signal to the world that Switzerland will not tolerate any attempt to perniciously manipulate its democratic, free belief system by any dogmatic, fascist belief system that has openly vowed to destroy all democratic, free belief systems. I support you and other strong feminists like you around the world who continue to stand strong against oppression of girls and women – against forced marriage, abuse, beatings, rape, stonings, and horrific honour killings – all acts being condoned, perpetrated and unpunished every day under the umbrella of the barbaric, fascist Islamic Sharia belief system. I send you my sincere gratitude for being a true feminist leader in these difficult times for women around the world. I also send my sincere gratitude to the courageous Swiss people for standing as a shining example worldwide for defenders of democracy and the western world against Islamic Sharia’s barbarism, fascism, sexism and misogyny.

Zee,
You are so right. WOMEN are the key that will unlock the destruction of islam. More so AMERICAN WOMEN.
Unfortunately, the increase in misogyny in this country is going to hamper the battle.
I’m going to put my tinfoil hat on. Like i said before, there is something more than just national politics going on. I can’t believe the media and political structures are blind to the misogyny the produce. Or the outcome either. Seems tailor made to advance certain principles.
Just my humble paranoid and expandable pov.

Thanks Pumas for taking the time to support Onken and the Swiss voters.
All of my relatives went out and voted for the ban, and for all the right reasons. I’m proud of them.
Switzerland is an oasis of peace for all who live there and they want to keep it that way for a long, long time.
Switzerland is being harshly criticized for their decision, although some Western European countries are said to be considering similar bans.

I agree, Pers. I sent Dr. Chesler a copy of the e-mail I sent to Julia Onken with a little cover note saying I’d like to see her do more TV interviews to get the truth out about the sexism/misogyny that are at the core of Islamic Sharia law. \
Thanks to you and your wonderful relatives for helping the west start to fight back!

I’m watching a replay of today’s White House briefing on c-span and reporters are hammering Robert Gibbs about why there was not someone from the WH social office at the gate reviewing guests for the state dinner like previous administrations always had. (the person who used to do this was fired when Obama took office) Gibbs keeps saying the Secret Service could have called the social office to ask about the couple in question. Reporters are spelling out that they think the Secret Service is being scapegoated by the WH. It looks like the Secret Service is going under the bus and that is not smart to set up the folks responsible for your security.
I did hear one former secret service officer say that the quality of the service has gone way down since it became part of Homeland Security office. I can believe that.

” SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5 RALLY IN FOLEY SQUARE: STOP THE TERROR TRIAL IN NYC!
NEW YORKERS TO ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDER:”WE WILL FIGHT YOU ALL THE WAY!”
December 5th rally protesting the NYC based trial of 9/11 conspirators
Where: FOLEY SQUARE, MANHATTAN
When: Saturday, December 5th, 2009 12:00 noon
Who: US!
The 9/11 Never Forget Coalition, a diverse group of 9/11 victims, family members, first responders, active and reserve members of the military, veterans, and concerned Americans, is holding December 5th rally protesting the plan to bring the 9/11 terrorist conspirators to trial in New York City.
The Coalition formed to fight the decision of President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to try the 9/11 co-conspirators in New York City’s federal court, effectively giving war criminals the same rights as American citizens while endangering the safety of all New Yorkers.
Two weeks ago, we sent a letter signed by 300 family members of 9/11 victims to the President, Attorney General and Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking them to reverse course. The letter has now been signed by over 120,000 Americans and is posted below.
Debra Burlingame, founder of 911 Families for a Safe and Strong America, said “Our rally on Saturday, December 5 will tell Attorney General Eric Holder, President Barack Obama and their supporters in Congress: We will fight you all the way!

obama speech tomorrow night…
I’d like to see him go on TV Tuesday night and say, “My fellow Americans, I was wrong. Our war in Afghanistan has nothing to do with national security anymore and we can’t afford it, and I’m not sending one more kid into harm’s way to fight there. As of tonight, I’m ordering a complete withdrawal.” But the odds of that happening are slimmer than a licorice rope. Obama couldn’t take the heat.
Former four-star Barry McCaffrey, the military-industrial ghoul who was the worst of the retired military media analysts who helped sell the Iraq war to the American public, is, incredibly, back on the air with NBC. He’s pushing the “no exit strategy, no timeline in Afghanistan” line. McCaffrey has ties to DynCorp International, a company that has a five-year contract to support bases in Afghanistan.
A swell fellow, that McCaffrey is, but he’s really just a symptom of a larger American disease. Our wars, even though they’re destroying our economy, are making a lot of people rich. The cash caisson, the gravy ship, and the wild blue budget continue to grow. War is our only export, and counterinsurgency is the perfect tool of the Long War mafia, because counterinsurgency wars are unwinnable.

Hi Puma Ladies (and any gents)
OT here but did anyone catch this? All the hard work exposing ACORN and keeping up hammering away at senators and congresspeople and getting them to DEFUND Acorn, according to this article, this guy quotes AG Holder as saying ACORN contracts must be honored despite what congress says:
By Jon Weiss, Radcliff, KY
Submitted on November 28, 2009
Congress voted to defund ACORN due to its shady activities, now Eric Holder has come up with a way for ACORN to continue being funded by the tax payers by saying that the U.S. Government has to complete all the pre-existing contracts with ACORN. As a veteran, I have to wonder where Holder has been all these years? In 1976 I signed a contract with the U.S. Government. That contract said that I would serve as a soldier for a specified number of years and in return the government would pay me and supply veterans benefits upon departure from service, yet the government has repeatedly and unilaterally reneged on that contract numerous times. I guess in Holders view, ACORN deserves more consideration and more adherance to the terms of the contract than the people who defend the country.

Hey PUMAS, I was checking out Riverdaught this morning and they are trying to organize but RD says PUMA is dead:
riverdaughter, on November 30th, 2009 at 8:39 am Said:

But to assume that there is anything positive in the Republican party right now is a real stretch. I just don’t think I can trust any of them anymore.

Hi Puma-SF. I can only speak for myself. But, so long as PUMA = People United Means Action, I believe PUMA will live. I think this blog and all the prowls, sharing of resources, sharing of purpose will make PUMA viable as the ‘voice of the voters,’ especially women voters, no matter what happens with the major political parties, or whether or not a viable third party emerges. Gotta get some rest. Thanks again PUMAs for letting the Swiss feminists and voters know we support them! ‘Night all lovely, wonderful PUMAs everywhere. Thanks for being you!
Puma-SF 12.01.09 at 1:20 am
CJK: I don’t think PUMA is dead at all. We are the only ones who have stayed together. Some have left but you know they are lurking. Everyone else splintered off because of whatever reason. Ego, Israel, Palin, tea parties – whatever. But we’re still here fighting. If you want to organize and make a difference you have to find common ground on basic issues. What happened to Taggles? Really, WTF happened? We can’t be that petty that we have to pick up our toys and leave. Hell, I miss the radio shows.
Zee 12.01.09 at 1:28 am
PUMA -SF, Riverdaughter can KMA. Let her continue to turn her soap box over to a male clown who LOVES Mormons and whines his ass off about his numerous ex-wives.
PUMA is not up to her to bury. What a joke.
Zee 12.01.09 at 1:36 am
Puma-sf, I miss the radio shows, too. And I adored taggles. She got caught up in an eddy, to continue the RIVER analogies. And I, for one, would welcome her back. She was no different from our HP. Passionate, outspoken.
omg, the passion! I think that is a PUMA trait we all share.
In the end she tried something separate and got shafted. I would like to hear her end of how it went wrong…even if…dang…lost my train of thought but no matter. Let me put it this way. Cinie is an original and will never give up. Taggles is yet another PUMA who tried it her way…and walked away when it was necessary.
Passion may lead to missteps… so what. We have bigger fish to fry.
Puma-SF 12.01.09 at 1:47 am
I have been a huge Riverdaughter fan but I’ve seen them try to organize and she derails them before they get started. I’m not sure what happened exactly between Taggles and RD but it was ugly and I really didn’t like the way she made it so public. Keep it behind the scenes. In that sense and the Schtuey thing I think she was treated unfairly. I think Murphy has been treated unfairly by all of them. Cinie is a broken record with a one track mind. She’s possessed just the way Taggles was at the end. PUMA will never die but Murphy can’t do it all herself.

Hi, Puma SF, how are you? The link above shows some results on Riverdaughter’s survey and four comments. The survey results are in line with your comment.
Personally, Murphy is my leader! Murph, you’re brilliant and passionate, and I love ya, but I confess that my loyalty may be primarily because we are fellow Aquarians!
One of the comments refers to three women leaders in the PUMA movement, one of whom I do not remember hearing about. Maybe I don’t know her blog name. Anyway, Murphy is not mentioned!

I guess I am also of a one track mind, and I have so appreciated that I can come here and say what I really need to say; I’m about to do it again … right now. Our party/former party is, for the the umpteenth time, hijacking the process of our Republic. This time, it’s working on the Senate which is to be ’sequestered’ until it comes up with O’s health legislation:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) opened the health care debate Monday by repeating his vow to work nights and weekends in order to pass a bill by Christmas:
“We will do this work transparently, and we will do this work tirelessly. That may mean debating and voting late at night. It means debating and voting on Saturdays and Sundays, if we must,” he vowed. “This crisis – and yes, it is a real crisis – is simply too hazardous to our country’s and our constituents’ health.”

Movement Under Way in California to Ban Divorce
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Til death do us part? The vow would really hold true in California if a Sacramento Web designer gets his way.
In a movement that seems ripped from the pages of Comedy Channel writers, John Marcotte wants to put a measure on the ballot next year to ban divorce in California.
The effort is meant to be a satirical statement after California voters outlawed gay marriage in 2008, largely on the argument that a ban is needed to protect the sanctity of traditional marriage. If that’s the case, then Marcotte reasons voters should have no problem banning divorce.
”Since California has decided to protect traditional marriage, I think it would be hypocritical of us not to sacrifice some of our own rights to protect traditional marriage even more,” the 38-year-old married father of two said.

Why would Riverdaughter thank obama for obstacles placed in front of Puma when she herself is pronouncing Puma dead? I would expect a self-congratulatory statement from her. From the very beginning RD stated the confluence wasn’t Puma. Too bad she seems to have internalized the obotic meme.
Taggles has always been hot tempered and erratic, it’s her way or the highway and I’ll never forgive her for the way she treated Murphy and disinvited her to participate of the shidderwhines; madB is either warm and friendly or cutthroat, depending on her personal goals… in the end, madB did to taggles what taggles did to Murphy… karmic returns. The shidders were the manifestation of all they criticized obama for…
Bottom line? With friends like these… who needs obots?
Cinie… up front. What you see is what you get, imo. Agree or not with her pov, I’d chose one Cinie over a hundred of teh others who, much like dogs, jump up and lick your face while they’re peeing on your leg.
I feel the same way about OPs vs the rest of pumas.

A good PUMA read
Subduing Women’s Sexuality
– by Hege Storhaug FrontPage Magazine
” In Islam, sexuality is seen to have three main positive aspects: the human sexual drive ensures reproduction; it produces intellectual energy; and the sexual act itself provides the man with a foretaste of what he will experience in paradise – the eternal orgasm. On earth, however, man’s most important task is devotion to Allah. Therefore, love between man and wife is viewed as an enemy of Muslim society. Marital love can disturb the husband’s attachment to Allah. ”

Me thinks they need to work on that “intellectual energy” part.
So basically Muslim men who are on a suicide mission are doing so to get to heavan for a “eternal orgasm”
So maybe women should just be lousy in bed and the terrorists wouldn’t be in such a hurry to get to paradise.
Lousy in bed will save lifes.Men do what they do to have an “eternal orgasm”

We gave up the Democratic label because it was co-opted by Obots, we aren’t feminists because Limbaugh calls us femi-nazis, we can’t be liberals because repubs made the term ‘tax and spend liberal” and now we are supposed to stop being PUMAs because blog stalkers say PUMAs are ra cists and old. On another topic, I think we should adopt the ‘Running while female’ and “Support Majority Candidates” labels to suppport women candidates. (A take on the “Driving while Black”) Maybe we could reach people (especially women) that realize that there is something sinister about how women candidates are treated. I fiddled with bumperstickers (cause I didn’t want to bother poor Dances yet again), but failed. Just a thought from the treadmill.

The hits just keep on coming. The stories are piling up against Obama this week.
Peggy Noonan – He Can’t take another bow (OUCH!):
http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html
He added that rather than bowing to emperors—Mr. Obama “seems to do this stuff spontaneously and inexplicably”—he should begin to bow to “the voices of experience” in Washington.
When longtime political observers start calling for wise men, a president is in trouble.
It also raises a distressing question: Who are the wise men and women now? Who are the Robert Lovetts, Chip Bohlens and Robert Strausses who can came in to help a president in trouble right his ship? America seems short of wise men, or short on those who are universally agreed to be wise. I suppose Vietnam was the end of that, but establishments exist for a reason, and it is hard for a great nation to function without the presence of a group of “the oldest and wisest” who can not only give sound advice but help engineer how that advice will be reported and received.

And another one….5 Amateurish Mistakes by Obama:
http://townhall.com/columnists/JohnHawkins/2009/12/01/five_more_amateur_mistakes_by_the_obama_administration
Excerpt:
If even your leader is willing to admit he’s inferior, what does it say about you? Obama seemed to realize this mistake, albeit after the fact, when he bowed to the Saudi King. Weirdly, even though many Americans actually saw Obama bow on video, the White House simply denied that it happened. How much audacity do you need to lie about something that tens of millions of Americans have seen with their own eyes? Even after that experience, Obama went on, in a grotesque, servile fashion to bow to both the Emperor of Japan and the Chinese Prime Minister.
It was a pointless, humiliating display that quite frankly, made many Americans embarrassed for him as a man and slightly ashamed that we have such a weakling in the White House.

Good morning all lovely, wonderful PUMAS everywhere! We’re still here.
PUMA Lives! PUMA Lives! PUMA Lives!
Here’s my two cents’ worth for a bumper sticker:
)
‘Running With Females’ (sort of like running with scissors!
Also, I like honora’s ‘Running While Female,’ which gave me the idea for ‘Running With Females.’
Also, FLBarbara, I like your ban all marriage idea. It’s never really any good for women anyhow. It benefits men primarily, at women’s expense (perhaps not necessarily in a material sense, but in soooooo many other ways).
Also, Zee, your comment upthread countering the RD ‘PUMA is dead’ meme rang true for me: “Let her continue to turn her soap box over to a male clown who LOVES Mormons and whines his ass off about his numerous ex-wives. PUMA is not up to her to bury.” I had enormous respect for RD until she allowed the male clown’s ego to spew all over her blog and every commenter, propelled by his pernicious, surreptitious woman-hatred. Also, running the gauntlet of the nauseatingly obligatory ‘PC’ crap over there was a waste of precious energy that’s better spent speaking the truth and helping take action here at Murphy’s.

A troop surge can only magnify the crime against Afghanistan
If Barack Obama heralds an escalation of the war, he will betray his own message of hope and deepen my people’s pain
Malalai Joya
After months of waiting, President Obama is about to announce the new US strategy for Afghanistan. His speech may be long awaited, but few are expecting any surprise: it seems clear he will herald a major escalation of the war. In doing so he will be making something worse than a mistake. It is a continuation of a war crime against the suffering people of my country.
I have said before that by installing warlords and drug traffickers in power in Kabul, the US and Nato have pushed us from the frying pan to the fire. Now Obama is pouring fuel on these flames, and this week’s announcement of upwards of 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan will have tragic consequences.
Already this year we have seen the impact of an increase in troops occupying Afghanistan: more violence, and more civilian deaths. My people, the poor of Afghanistan who have known only war and the domination of fundamentalism, are today squashed between two enemies: the US/Nato occupation forces on one hand and warlords and the Taliban on the other.
While we want the withdrawal of one enemy, we don’t believe it is a matter of choosing between two evils. There is an alternative: the democratic-minded parties and intellectuals are our hope for the future of Afghanistan.
It will not be easy, but if we have a little bit of peace we will be better able to fight our own internal enemies – Afghans know what to do with our destiny. We are not a backward people, and we are capable of fighting for democracy, human and women’s rights in Afghanistan. In fact the only way these values will be achieved is if we struggle for them and win them ourselves.
After eight years of war, the situation is as bad as ever for ordinary Afghans, and women in particular. The reality is that only the drug traffickers and warlords have been helped under this corrupt and illegitimate Karzai government. Karzai’s promises of reform are laughable. His own vice-president is the notorious warlord Fahim, whom Brad Adams of Human Rights Watch describes as “one of the most notorious warlords in the country, with the blood of many Afghans on his hands”.
Transparency International reports that this regime is the second most corrupt in the world. The UN Development Programme reports Afghanistan is second last – 181st out of 182 countries – in terms of human development. That is why we no longer want this kind of “help” from the west.

What is the perfect ploy against Women Political Stance, divide them by creating internal fighting, and then marginalize and oust, the true leaders from that growing movement.
That is what Riverdance is trying to do; by making a statement such as “The Pumas are dead, that to me is equivalent to saying “The Feminists are dead. True Pumas never run away from a confrontation or “name calling such as racist” what a stupid statement.
Did feminists/Pumas run from such names as “ball busters”, men haters etc., which were hurled at us to try and deter us from our equality goals? That is never ever going to happen as long as there is an intellectual, visionary and idealist woman alive on this planet.
And we all know there are billions of us around the world, just waiting for true female leaders to arise and return to earth the feminine power, balance and human equality for all…
The Puma name is just the current stand in name for the idealism of “Liberty, Justice and Freedom for all mankind”.

“The only thing Warren is interested in is marriage itself: the sacred union between a man and his helpmate (and notice who is the subject of that formulation and who is relegated to an adjectival subservience). In conservative Christian ideology, human marriage replicates the bond between Christ and his church, with the husband in the role of Christ (of course) and the wife playing the part of devoted church”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I dont know this author, but i dont know what log they have been lying under, because baby doll, i sure never thought my husband was Jesus! Good lord. It’s funny to me, it really is, how some people think they can interpret a concept. Now, maybe there are some really radical women out there who actually believe that crap, but they are from old time religious and probably ignorant ones at that. Anyway, I promise you this one thing. I was never a Rick Warren fan to start off with. What really bothered me about his book The Purpose Driven Life, was not what was in it, before i tried to read it, my sister gave it to me. Was that i was working parttime at a school, and i saw women teachers walking around with that book, not realizing their churches were actually having workshops on it, that’s how my sister ended up with it. I asked my sister at that time, dont you think it’s strange to act like this book deserves workshops? I mean afterall, you have one of the best sellers, the Bible, to try to interpret the rest of your life? Dont ya?
Bottom line. Our country doesnt need to worry about the divorce rates. We have plenty of them. This country doesnt have to worry about female abuse, we get notice daily in the news. It’s rampant. That’s why this whole Rhiana story will wake some young women up. Thank God!
Soooooo, no matter what Rick Warren, or the Pope, or any religious leader says, women have become informed, now it’s time
for all WOMEN to step up their game and just say, OH HELL NO< NO MORE
Speaking of BO’s apparently limitless hypocrisy, there’s an interesting post at WomenState today about BO’s auntie from Kenya. (She actually calls GWB her ‘No. 1 man,’ not her nephew!) Also, check out the video at top left, ‘Puttin’ on the Glitz.’ While much of America is unemployed, poor, hungry, standing in line for commodities, BO and MO wasted in excess of a half million dollars on their recent state dinner, much of which apparently went into an elaborate, one-of-a-kind, hand-made gown for MO. Sadly, even such an extravagant gown does not mask nor minimize awkward, lumbering gait and perpetually dour, hateful expression.
They have also allowed pigs to graze over sites where mosques were earmarked in order to make them unholy, while recently, the Northern League was accused of racism after it emerged that a local scheme to rid a town of illegal immigrants had been nicknamed ‘White Christmas’.
Gosh, I am just reading over this thread and I am ashamed to admit that I had no idea that there were problems between bloggers. I apologize for being so out of the mainstream. I probably need to blog less and pay more attention to what is going on amongst my fellow bloggers.
I apologize for my total lack of comprehension of what has been going on. And if there is anything I can do to help bring everyone together, I would be happy to do so.
I have this habit of going off on my own and just doing my own thing and it keeps me from seeing things that so many of you see. I just seem to miss what’s going on around me. I had no idea there were even arguments, much less serious one. I guess that makes me not a very good team player. Maybe that’s not the best way to be when we all have a number of common goals and have pretty much suffered through the same horrendous treatment during 2008. I will work on it.
The interview is very revealing re the sexism/misogyny of Turkish Islam. Ates (a Turkish Muslim who emigrated to Germany with her family when she was 6) was shot by a Turkish Islamic man as she sat in a Berlin women’s shelter trying to counsel/help a 15-year-old abused Turkish Muslim girl. The man fatally shot the girl. Despite her experience, Ates seems to remain courageous and idealistic in her efforts to change her faith from the inside. Her latest book is “Islam Needs a Sexual Revolution.” While we in the west may believe that goes without saying, her perspective and persistence are interesting. She apparently believes the West must not give in to unreformed or fundamentalist Islam.
Interesting tidbit on Zerobama’s illegal aunt in Boston. It seems Bush placed a temporary order to prevent her arrest and deportation during the 2008 election. Whether that’s because the elite wanted to control the narrative in order to install their chosen one…or because the elite always help out one of their own behind the scenes…it still points to different rules for them, and that’s as anti-American as you can get. The article is worth reading in full, to see how Zero has stowed his aunt under the bus for now…
Onyango reserved special words of kindness for former President George W. Bush for a directive he put in place days before the election requiring federal agents get high-level approval to arrest fugitive immigrants, which directly affected Onyango. The directive made clear that U.S. officials worried about possible election implications of arresting Onyango.
She said she wants to thank Bush in person for the order, which gave her a measure of peace but was lifted weeks later.
“I loved President Bush,” Onyango said while moving toward a framed photo of Bush and his wife standing with Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House on inauguration day. “He is my No. 1 man in my life because he helped me when I really needed that help.”
Check out this view of Zero from an Afghani woman:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/nov/30/obama-afghanistan-troops
…I have said before that by installing warlords and drug traffickers in power in Kabul, the US and Nato have pushed us from the frying pan to the fire. Now Obama is pouring fuel on these flames…It will not be easy, but if we have a little bit of peace we will be better able to fight our own internal enemies – Afghans know what to do with our destiny. We are not a backward people, and we are capable of fighting for democracy, human and women’s rights in Afghanistan…Like many around the world, I am wondering what kind of “peace” prize can be awarded to a leader who continues the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and starts a new war in Pakistan…Instead of hope and change, in foreign policy Obama is delivering more of the same. But I still have hope because, as our history teaches, the people of Afghanistan will never accept occupation.
Dances…I didn’t go often enough to keep up, but I did remember that madB went off her rocker and started censoring posts, so I guess I just wrongly concluded taggles got fed up with that. Yeah, I remember they weren’t interested in listening and actual exchange. But their lowest point was when they piled on “Daddy’s Darlin” and defended this guy for making awful jokes about child molestation! And blamed it on her supposedly having an “obvious” porn handle. There’s a movie with the title Daddy’s Darlings, which is a family film, and every time I see it listed on tv I think of how inexcusably disgusting they were…but by that time it was down to madB and a couple others.
Regarding then-governor Huckabee releasing the cop-killer from prison, I so want not to blame Huckabee for trying to be merciful, but it seems he used horrendous judgment in many cases. I think what is needed is some measurable “rehabilitation” for young, unhardened, non-violent criminals…and throw away the key on the violent ones. Jesus should not be used as a get-out-of-jail-free card:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2009/11/30/mike_huckabee?source=newsletter
Surely the most notorious instance of misplaced mercy involved Wayne Dumond, a rapist and murderer now deceased, who was originally sent to prison in Arkansas for raping a distant cousin of Bill Clinton. During Clinton’s presidency the Dumond case became an obsession among certain right-wing pundits and politicians, who insisted that Dumond had been framed and brutalized by the “Clinton machine.” When Huckabee became governor, he supported a parole for Dumond, winning applause from the Republican right — until the former prisoner raped and killed a young woman in Missouri. Dumond later died in prison, under suspicion that he had murdered at least one other woman after his Arkansas release — a tragic outcome for which Huckabee has repeatedly tried to blame others, including his two Democratic predecessors in the statehouse.
The real engine behind Dumond’s release, however, was a Baptist minister and ultra-conservative ideologue named Jay Cole, who also happened to be a friend of Huckabee. Cole would tell the governor about his visits with the supposedly innocent Dumond, when the minister and the prisoner would read the Bible and pray together.
Perhaps the worst instance of that same syndrome, chronicled in detail by Arkansas journalists, concerned an Air Force sergeant named Glen Green, who was sentenced to prison for life after confessing that he had raped and killed a teenage girl. After beating the woman with nunchucks, he violated her almost lifeless body, ran over her with his car and buried her in a swamp. But yet another preacher friend of Huckabee’s named Rev. Johnny Jackson somehow persuaded the governor that this incredibly brutal killing had been an “accident” — and that Green had repented, come to Jesus and therefore should be freed.
http://www.southernstudies.org/2009/12/the-campaign-cash-behind-the-afghanistan-escalation.html
Anti-war groups are already planning protests against the escalation…Some are calling the president’s plan to ratchet up the war a betrayal of the Democratic base….But while the president may be showing disloyalty to his political base, he’s remaining faithful to the defense industry interests that so generously funded his campaign.
According to the Center for Responsive Politics’ OpenSecrets.org database, the top recipient of defense industry money in the 2008 election cycle was Barack Obama, whose haul of $1,029,997 far surpassed Republican contender Sen. John McCain’s $696,948.
I went through every page and rated every candidate. Interesting that on the last page (11), the poll results indicate that the Iran protestors, with 87 percent, received twice as many actual votes as BO. BO’s tied with Steve Jobs at 60 percent. IMO, the Iran protestors deserve not only to be Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ (People of the Year?), but are far more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than BO ever was, is or could be. Here’s the link again http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,1939691,00.html
Note that the Time editors state on the last page that they reserve the right to disagree with the poll results(???)
There comes a point in your life when you realize
Who matters,
Who never did,
Who won’t anymore
And who always will.
So, don’t worry about the people from your past, there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.
Zee 12.01.09 at 6:33 pm
The interview is very revealing re the sexism/misogyny of Turkish Islam. Ates (a Turkish Muslim who emigrated to Germany with her family when she was 6) was shot by a Turkish Islamic man as she sat in a Berlin women’s shelter trying to counsel/help a 15-year-old abused Turkish Muslim girl.
Unfreaking believable. He executes four police officers gangland style, including one woman officer, and the NOI (in the form of what could logically be called one of its sub-gangs) praises him as a martyr? Those four officers were seated quietly at a coffee shop, doing paperwork before their shifts began. What reason on earth would justify their cold, calculated execution? What would prompt any human being on earth to view their killer as a martyr?
