Pumpkin cupcakes

Last night, I heard mention of the group “Save The Children U.K.” in an NPR/Associated Press report filed from Nairobi (capitol of Obama’s ancestral homeland of Kenya), about children Somalia’s capitol, Mogadishu. Doubtless the original reporters were in Nairobi because conditions in Somalia, now under Sharia, hardly are safe or good. Despite the risks, Save the Children U.K. was there to save lives, but so is “Healing the Children” of Minnesota. I just wonder if the U.S. group is there also, and if the U.K. people know the American group is promoting the barbarous burqa Barbie.

One of the goals of PUMA Pac is to educate and bring awareness to the suppression of women by a religion, culture and government.

The Burqua is not a “costume” nor is it a “dress” The burqua is an isolation chamber, the women can not see, nor walk properly. The burqua is a symbol of uneducated, sub missive and abused women. To showcase Barbie “clad” in a burqua along side of a sarong or a sari and call it “A Cultural Dress” is a dis service to the millions of women who are forced to wear the burqua or face a flogging or a stoning.
By showcasing this horrific clothing you send a message to the girls you strive to save that being uneducated, sub missive and abused is acceptable, more importantly you send a message to the boys who will grow up to be the men who abuse women that it is acceptable in a civil society to abuse girls and women.
“Save the Children does not take a position on the designer/artist’s personal expression, and as a non-religious, non-sectarian organization is dedicated to serving vulnerable children in need worldwide regardless of theirs or their families’ cultural or religious beliefs.”
The problem is you did not take a stand on the artist personal expression.
At the very least your stand should have been Save the Children will not associate itself with a doll that undermines its mission.
The end does not justify the means.
And as a “non-religious, non-sectarian organization” why would you consider Barbie in a burgua to be either non-religious or non sectarian?
No other religion but Islam commands a woman to cover herself from head to toe. The burqua is also a symbol of Islamic fundamentalist Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
I am proud of my long standing support of Save the Children but I am no longer proud to be associated with an organization that puts a financial gain above the needs of the children whose mission it is to save regardless of cultural or religious beliefs.
However when the children who need saving depend upon you to speak against that culture or religious belief in order to be saved I expect you to do just that. Speak UP against it.
A huge mistake was made by Mattel whose President sits on the board of Save the Children and to blame artistic expression is not accepting responsibility for the choice to put both the Mattel and Save the Children stamp of approval on it.
Apologize to the women you have offended and speak against the human rights violations the burqua represents and in the future be more aware of the choices you make on behalf of the children you represent.

At least 6-8 glassesof 8oz a day…. along with Herbal Green tea…. It is not much… But, I will guarantee you… in less than 3 days you will feel Much better…. Hope this helps…..

BRAVA! Your letter to Slave the Children is wonderful. May I suggest that we, in addition to sending emails and letters, keep the phones ringing and talk to the low level employees who are burdened with the task of reading Mattel’s and Save the Children’s robo-response to their many calls. The people who answer the phones, I find are mostly young women. They need to understand just what is happening here. They need to hear the voices of older wiser women who strongly denounce this pathetic excuse for art and blantant exploitation of the worlds most vulnerable women.

I must admit to feeling bad about targeting Save the children. They may have messed us this affiliation, but they do do good work. I am furious with Mattel, they just make money, but Save the children should be educated rather than destroyed, in my opinion.

I hear you. I tried to explain to the receptionist at Save the Children, that it would be ashame if their charity was hurt by this association to Mattel’s Slave Barbie.

Honora, #68 I have a friend who has decided to not donate to Save the Children because of the prowl I forwarded to her. Save the Children may benefit from education but sometimes lessons are painful. In this case, it is essential that they understand the ramifications of the poor judgement of this “auction item” (the irony) and its message.
On Greta, McCain just criticized the left for its “vicious” attacks on Sarah Palin. FINALLY, one man stands up for decency. Maybe it will set a trend. I wonder if he’ll have the decency to backtrack on his own remarks about Hillary and Chelsea.

Great points. I feel the same way and it has been my experience that people do need to be educated and made aware of the issues that women face because of sexism and misogyny and many times it can be done if the person is open to learning.
Save the Children is a wonderful organization, I worked for them in Columbia, and in another email to them I explained they exist partly because of religious and cultural wars so would it not behoove them to address some of those issues in the places where it is the cause of the suffering of children in war torn countries.
I am not seeking to destroy STC only trying to say Burqua Barbie is one of the reasons you will always be in an Islamic country saving children.
Organizations like STC and Mattel need to step up and speak about the abuse of children and women or it will never change.

Happy day before Thanksgiving Pumas. Watched Obama pardon the turkey and he talked for at least 10 minutes (the turkey never flinched so I think he was drugged). First half of Obama’s speech was joking about eating the turkey, etc. 2nd half was I, I, I and usual blah speech.
Michelle’s state dinner dress was beautiful but unfortunately it made the Mrs. India PM’s outfit look very dowdy and plain. I don’t know what the protocol is for that, I’m sure their staff finds out what honored guests plan to wear. In other words I think MO overdressed although that is not an unusual rookie mistake.

Today was a U.N. National Day awareness of violence against women or something.
Here’s a great idea from Puerto Rico: Enact a law to make domestic violence counseling a requirement for a marriage license. It raises awareness if nothing else, and might actually educate people and prevent violence. Take my word for it-unless you read Spanish!

A great Thanskgiving holiday to all PUMAs, of all species! (Here’s lookin’ at you, Roxie, and you kitties who will be lounging in the bathroom sink when guests arrive.)
I can give thanks for everything I have– friends, music, a brain with 2 working hemispheres, a tempting new recipe for sweet potato pie I’ll never actually bake.
What did have me counting my blessings today is a new batch of Thanksgiving posts at miscellani.org (where yours truly is the unofficial artist in residence). I’m thankful for never being suffocated under Sharia “law” like Lubna Hussein in Sudan. I’m thankful just to read some good news, whether about Lubna’s escape, or the U.S. court ruling about compensating people in New Orleans.
Here is another blessing: come rain or shine, PUMAs will be here.

BillieJo… so funny that you’ll be with Obamabots tomorrow. Same here with me. I will be feeding them lobster and turkey. They are good friends but I want to gloat about the 49% rating so badly. Maybe we’ll put out the bumper stickers around our house so they get the drift. They are staunch Democrats – so stuck on this label, they can’t see straight.
I saw another Obamabot with a bumper sticker. I didn’t have my stickers with me otherwise, I would have sticker over it.

A quick search of the Senate health bill will bring up “secretary” 2,500 times. That’s because Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius would be awarded unprecedented new powers under the proposal, including the authority to decide what medical care should be covered by insurers as well as the terms and conditions of coverage and who should receive it.
snip on Page 122 of the 2,079-page bill, the secretary is given the power to establish “the basic per enrollee, per month cost, determined on average actuarial basis, for including coverage under a qualified health care plan.”
The HHS secretary would also have the power to decide where abortion is allowed under a government-run plan, which has drawn opposition from Republicans and some moderate Democrats.
And the bill even empowers the department to establish a Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation that would have the authority to make cost-saving cuts without having to get the approval of Congress first.
“It’s a huge amount of power being shifted to HHS, and much of it is highly discretionary,” said Edmund Haislmaier, an expert in health care policy and insurance markets at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.
