It’s PROWL Wednesday here at Puma PAC. If you weren’t sure where you stood on health care “reform,” I think NOW you can rest assured that it is a VERY BAD IDEA. Basic health care services for women, from family planning, to breast cancer screening, to prenatal care, to reproductive choice are literally UNDER ATTACK.

PROWL #1. Via Puma-SF, Click HERE and print out a copy of the bumper sticker below. Fax it to:

  • Your Senators’ Fax Numbers– click HERE
  • Nancy Pelosi: 202-225-4188
  • Harry Reid: 202-224-7327
  • White House: 202-456-2461

coathanger8x3_1up

Sorry, but I’m not trading away breast cancer screenings for women in their forties in order to subsidize ten thousand NEW PAYING CUSTOMERS for PRIVATE insurance corporations. As ainnj says over at The Confluence: “Any bets on the first major health insurance company to stop covering mammograms for under 50’s and over 70 without proof of predisposition?” Exactly right, Ainnj. This whole thing is absotively posilutely ridiculous!

PROWL #2, via Uppity, Send Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz a thank you note, HERE. Copy and paste or edit as you see fit (Use zip code: 33326-1019):

Dear Congresswoman,

Thank you so much for standing up for American women, and protecting our access to health care screenings that we KNOW not only save lives, but also vastly improve the quality of life for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. As you clearly know, early detection is KEY to beating the more aggressive forms of breast cancer. Without women like you in Congress fighting for ALL of us women, we may find women’s basic health services rationed away as “too costly” or “unnecessary.”

Thank you again, very much — and keep fighting for American women — We Support YOU!

Sincerely,
Your Name
Puma PAC Member (http://pumapac.org)

PROWL #3. Contact Newsweek. Their absurd claim that THIS COVER is NOT SEXIST is just plain, well — absurd.

Palin+cover

In his official statement about the cover, Editor Jon Meacham (hiding behind the women photo editors like  a big fat lying baby) says: “We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard.” Hello, Jon? It doesn’t matter if your standard for photos is “gender neutral” if “what you are saying” (Kill the bitch before the uppity, brainless twat topples our SUPERMAN) is so profoundly sexist that it would never be said about a man. What a jackass.

Miq2xu’s crush on Sarah Palin is actually pretty darn cute. Almost as cute as Secretary Clinton’s crush on . . . oops, I’m getting ahead of myself. Copy and paste the following letter and email it to:

prowl@pumapac.org; Letters@newsweek.com; webeditors@newsweek.com; okieandaussie@gmail.com;

Dear Jon Meacham,

Your cover photo of Sarah Palin in this week’s issue is undeniably sexist. You use the most perniciously undermining and belittling stereotypes of women as the basis for your so-called “gender neutral” statement that Sarah Palin is a brainless bimbo who is too stupid to hold elective office.

It does not matter whether I am a Democrat, a Republican, a conservative or a liberal. I am outraged by your unconscionably prejudiced and sexist judgment.

Women of the United States are SICK and TIRED of our depiction in mainstream media outlets like yours. You  need an immediate refresher course in the basics of feminism.

Sincerely,
Your Name
Puma PAC Member (http://pumapac.org)

And for something completely light-hearted, check out this puff piece about Secretary Clinton and her secret crush on the super-cute British Foreign Secretary. The pictures made me laugh at loud. Yup, I’m not ashamed to say I took the poll.

Get cracking on the PROWLS, Pumas. Tell your friends. Oh, and p.s. it is CUPCAKES GALORE today!

Another bus beating. This time a boy beating on a girl. Lovely. The district won’t release the tape.

another repost from downstairs

Some good news about mammograms, at least in Missouri. Women will be covered under Missouri law if their insurance is state licensed.

“Missouri law is very clear that women have the right to have their insurance companies cover the cost of mammograms starting at age thirty-five,” said Travis Ford, the spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Insurance.

OK- off to do my prowls and then my school work.
Don’t forget- NEGATIVE 14!!!

HP, right — I forgot to mention that in the PROWL letter. As Danceswithpumas, for whom The Sound of Music is a timeless classic with the best soundtrack ever, surely knows, the original song is “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?”

and the answer, which is basically the plot of the movie (the nazi stuff is really just fluff), turns out to be:

MARRY HER OFF AND STICK HER WITH SEVEN STEPCHILDREN TO RAISE.

Get that, Everyone? Not only is the picture obviously sexist, but the headline is absolutely DRIPPING with it.

hmmm. make sure your email addresses are separated with commas or semicolons depending on what your email program likes? Mail on the mac likes commas. I think aol and outlook like semicolons…

just a thought.

10

sheila7 11.18.09 at 12:26 pm

Ok. I’ll just do that one separate. I think I should have used semi-colons instead of commas. But the others went through so who knows. Oh well, if at first you don’t succeed try, try again.
Thanks Murphy!

11

sheila7 11.18.09 at 12:32 pm

Hmmm…
It came back again to me. Oh well, I don’t know what the problem is. Off to do my work. I have procrastinated far too long on studying. Big test tomorrow on modes, medians, means, standard deviations, blah blah blah blah blah. Ugghhh.
Wish me luck pumas, I really need it. These things are not my forte (sp?)

Comment on the “coat hangers” — love the graphic — however, I didn’t vote for change. So – shouldn’t it say – YOU voted for change and all YOU got was a coat hanger? or Feminist voted for change and all they got was a coat hanger?

Sarah Palin Gives Oprah Highest Rating in Two Years – Huffington Post by Danny Shea

Oprah’s much-anticipated interview of Sarah Palin brought her the biggest “Oprah” ratings in two years.

The Live Feed’s James Hibberd notes that Monday’s “Oprah” drew an 8.7 household rating and 13 share, the highest since Oprah hosted the Osmonds in 2007.

19

admin 11.18.09 at 12:51 pm

simofish, heh — you have NO IDEA how long I spent going back and forth on that!

Agreed, we personally may not have voted for change, but the idea behind the wording is that COLLECTIVELY americans voted for change. Since the message in this case is going specifically to the dem leadership, I thought that wording made the most sense. (ie telling nancy pelosi, “You voted for change and all I got was a coat hanger” or “They voted for change and all I got was a coat hanger” didnt make much sense.)

Zoinks!

prplvette85 11.18.09 at 1:47 pm

hi all. I did 2 prowls. Still have to do the faxes.
I just got home about an hour ago from taking Roxie to the vet. She had to be there at 7:00 am. It was dark, and pouring rain. I am night blind, so I felt like mr. maggoo trying to drive and see.
Roxie knew what was going on. she put on the brakes, and it took me 15 minutes in the pouring rain to coax her into the vets. She never did that before. Then when they went to take her away she looked at me with those big ole eyes, like what are you doing to me? It was sad. I cried all the way home. I just called and she isn’t even in surgery yet. My other dog is depressed and won’t eat or drink cuz she keeps looking for Roxie. It’s going to be a long day.

Lesson learned over the years – animals never blame you when you take them home from the vet’s, they always blame the vets and love you for taking them back home. You can go back to pick her up a little early and they MAY let you sit with her while she awakes from the anesthesia. I’ve done this before. It helps me, I don’t think the animals know I’m there, but I do it anyway.

In an effort to reduce Health Care costs for Americans, the Obama administration in offering free breast exams to be performed on Infidel and Muslim women by Somali men who have much recent experience examining womens breasts. This program will help cut costs by eliminating the need for mammograms while progressing American towards a New World Governance where Shari-ah jurisprudence is welcome in our new inclusive Open Society.

Join NOW at National Lobby Day and Rally to Stop Stupak-Pitts
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, abortion rights supporters will gather in Washington, D.C., to lobby the Senate and rally for health care reform that ensures women’s access to reproductive health care.

NOW and our allies are calling on YOU to join us on Capitol Hill to demand that Congress not trade away women’s reproductive rights in negotiations over health care reform.

The Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which passed in the House, greatly limits women’s ability to access abortion coverage. Similar language must not be included in the Senate version or the final bill.
We want to know if you’re planning to be at the National Lobby Day and Rally and/or if you’re interested in other volunteer opportunities on this critical issue.
Fill out our volunteer online form NOW. Don’t worry if you’ve never lobbied before — just bring yourself and your passion (and your friends and family, too), and we’ll help you with the rest!
Details:
Who: National Organization for Women and Allies
What: National Lobby Day and Rally to Stop Stupak-Pitts
Where: Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

Millions will have to repay part the tax credit Obama gave them More ‘hope & change failure’.

WASHINGTON — More than 15 million taxpayers may owe the government $250 or more because of how the IRS last spring set up President Barack Obama’s tax break that was designed to help consumers spend the U.S. economy out of recession.

Individuals with more than one job and married couples in which both spouses work may have to repay the government $400, either through a smaller tax refund or a larger tax bill, according to a report released Monday by the Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration. Social Security recipients who also earn taxable wages may have to repay $250.

Books of The Times
“Gratitude’s Grace Can Be Itself a Gift”

:::snip:::
The not-very-promising title of Ms. Visser’s new book, “The Gift of Thanks: The Roots and Rituals of Gratitude,” and the fact that it is being issued in November, will make some readers think it’s another snoozy, belt-loosening tour of America’s Thanksgiving traditions, from the Pilgrims to whether it’s the L-tryptophan in turkey that makes you want to crawl under the table and take a nap on the carpet after eating.

It’s not that at all. Instead “The Gift of Thanks” is a scholarly, many-angled examination of what gratitude is and how it functions in our lives. Gratitude is a moral emotion of sorts, Ms. Visser writes, one that is more complicated and more vital than we think.

::::snip:::
In Dante’s “Inferno,” she observes, “at the bottommost circle of hell, the ungrateful are punished by being eternally frozen in the postures of deference they had failed to perform during their lifetimes: trapped rigid in enveloping ice, they stand erect or upside down, lie prone, or bow face to feet.”

In “The Gift of Thanks,” however, Ms. Visser is most interested in the kind of gratitude that is not compulsory or self-interested. She writes about the humility required to be genuinely grateful, and the essential ability to climb out of one’s own head.

“Gratitude is always a matter of paying attention,” she writes, of “deliberately beholding and appreciating the other.”

What a horrible week for women: the Stupak amendment, the Sarah Palin SEXIST cover, and the guidelines on mammograms. Why does it have to be so hard to be a woman? Why are we always fighting for our rights? Do you know of any other group who has had their rights TAKEN AWAY from them recently? Aren’t we supposed to go forward??

Two items of interest from NoQuarter:
Harvard Med School Dean: Health Care Reform Gets a Failing Grade.

…n discussions with dozens of health-care leaders and economists, I find near unanimity of opinion that, whatever its shape, the final legislation that will emerge from Congress will markedly accelerate national health-care spending rather than restrain it. Likewise, nearly all agree that the legislation would do little or nothing to improve quality or change health-care’s dysfunctional delivery system. The system we have now promotes fragmented care and makes it more difficult than it should be to assess outcomes and patient satisfaction. The true costs of health care are disguised, competition based on price and quality are almost impossible, and patients lose their ability to be the ultimate judges of value.

Worse, currently proposed federal legislation would undermine any potential for real innovation in insurance and the provision of care. It would do so by overregulating the health-care system in the service of special interests such as insurance companies, hospitals, professional organizations and pharmaceutical companies, rather than the patients who should be our primary concern.

and

American Cancer Society recommendations for early breast cancer detection

Women age 40 and older should have a screening mammogram every year, and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health.

Women in their 20s and 30s should have a clinical breast exam (CBE) as part of a periodic (regular) health exam by a health professional, preferably every 3 years. After age 40, women should have a breast exam by a health professional every year.

Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s. Women should be told about the benefits and limitations of BSE. Women should report any breast changes to a health professional right away.

Women at high risk (about 20% or greater lifetime risk based on family history or history of prior treatment with radiation) should get an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and a mammogram every year beginning at age 30 (see below). There is not enough evidence to recommend for or against the use of MRI for women at moderately increased risk (15% to 20% lifetime risk) based on family history or other risk factors. Yearly MRI screening is not recommended for women whose lifetime risk of breast cancer is less than 15%.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704431804574539581994054014.html

Another excerpt:
In effect, while the legislation would enhance access to insurance, the trade-off would be an accelerated crisis of health-care costs and perpetuation of the current dysfunctional system—now with many more participants. This will make an eventual solution even more difficult. Ultimately, our capacity to innovate and develop new therapies would suffer most of all.

Pumas. I have been working on my own prowl, but suffice it to say I will be chewing Newsweek’s arse off asap.

The other day I deplored the psalm bumpersticker, and sure enough it’s become an issue. It’s a death wish. It’s deplorable. Please no longer put PUMA’s name to it. The psalm following it is more specific in wishing the man’s children fatherless and his wife a widow, but the psalm in question is clear enough in that meaning as well.

Anyway, it’s become a news item. I tell you here that I deplore and reject that slogan because I want PUMAs to take the higher road…but elsewhere I give the Obots no such ammo.

They have pointed out the death wish in the psalm and I have lit into them with the quote from Olbermann about Hillary being taken into a room and only HE come out.

They’ve flagged and banned every comment of mine, tho they are the plain facts.

I’ve sought to spare PUMAs this hellhole, but here is the link:

A Statement from Dr. Virginia Maurer, my doctor my shero, please visit her web site it is very informative.

“Like the American Cancer Society I will continue to recommend annual screening using digital mammography to all women beginning at age 40 and clinical and breast self examinations for women beginning at the age of 18. There is no known cure for breast cancer, though the earlier it is caught increases a woman’s chance of survival. A breast self-exam is not a diagnostic practice but a tool that encourages a woman to recognize any changes that may occur in her breast; a clinical examination allows an expert to confirm any suspicious changes and a digital mammography enhances visibility by up to 300% making it more likely to see lumps and other abnormal changes that may be present in the breast tissue. Women need to fight this disease from a position of strength  and knowledge and advocate for their own health with these three components of early detection. Breast cancer is a major health problem to too many women; a digital mammography screening reduces breast cancer mortality and saves lives.”

Health and Human Services Sec. Seebelius re: Mammograms

WASHINGTON — Women should continue getting regular mammograms starting at age 40, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Wednesday, moving to douse confusion caused by a task-force recommendation two days earlier.
———snip
The task force does “not set federal policy and they don’t determine what services are covered by the federal government,” Sebelius said.

Medicare, which covers older Americans and some younger ones who are disabled, provides women on Medicare coverage for an annual mammogram at age 40 and older.
———snip
“My message to women is simple. Mammograms have always been an important lifesaving tool in the fight against breast cancer and they still are today. Keep doing what you have been doing for years — talk to your doctor about your individual history, ask questions and make the decision that is right for you,” Sebelius said.

Harry Reid and the Senate version of the Health Care bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid released a healthcare reform plan on Wednesday that budget analysts said would extend coverage to tens of millions of the uninsured and reduce the budget deficit over 10 years.

————Snip
The 2,074-page bill was applauded by Obama, who called it “another critical milestone” in the push for healthcare reform, and condemned by Republicans who said it was another costly government intrusion in the private healthcare sector.

————–snip
If the Senate passes a bill, any differences with the version passed by the House would have to be reconciled before the final versions can be voted on again in both houses. If the final bill passes, it would be sent to Obama for his signature.

————-Snip
The Senate bill includes a government-run insurance option that lets states choose whether to participate, and would halt practices like denying coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions.

————snip (IMPORTANT)
The bill does not include language approved earlier this month by the House of Representatives that would strengthen the existing prohibition on using federal funds for abortion, senators said.

http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSN1812587720091119

145

goofsmom 11.18.09 at 8:57 pm

Okay, the Sebelius article is good news.

The Reid article is not good news. Not having the language in it like the House passed on abortion is a good start. However the 3rd paragraph from the article, that I posted, spells out how they could still get the abortion language included.

Watch out for the spin and keep your eyes open, they are going to try to pull the wool over them!

146

BigCatLover 11.18.09 at 9:01 pm

According to what I’m hearing in interviews including Major Garrett’s with Obama in Asia, the amendment will not be the same as it was written in the House, but they are not saying the the amendment will be removed from the Senate bill.

Quote:
But when it comes to the 2012 race, Obama didn’t discount the possibility he may sit out on a reelection bid.

“You know, if – if I feel like I’ve made the very best decisions for the American people and three years from now I look at it and, you know, my poll numbers are in the tank and because we’ve gone through these wrenching changes, you know, politically, I’m in a tough spot, I’ll – I’ll feel all right about myself,” Obama told CNN’s Ed Henry during an interview in China.

Obama has visited 20 countries during his first year in office, more than any other U.S. president.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/18/obama.henry/index.html

According to him, it is due to him that 75% of the world now see US in a better standing.
To quote: “I think a recent one indicated that around the world, before my election, less than half the people — maybe less than 40 percent of the people — thought that you could count on America to do to the right thing. Now it’s up to 75 percent.”

“A 20-year-old woman divorcee accused of committing adultery in Somalia has been stoned to death by Islamists in front of a crowd of about 200 people.

A judge working for the militant group al-Shabab said she had had an affair with an unmarried 29-year-old man.

He said she gave birth to a still-born baby and was found guilty of adultery. Her boyfriend was given 100 lashes.

It is thought to be the second time a woman has been stoned to death for adultery by al-Shabab.

The group controls large swathes of southern Somalia where they have imposed a strict interpretation of Islamic law which has been unpopular with many Somalis.”

My heart just stopped reading Murphy’s post. Really stopped.

Stoning a woman to death is a spectator sport.
You know they even have “rules” about the size of stones. Not too large to cause sudden death and not too small to prolong death.

I have said before I am not sure to this day what was more profound the sounds of her screams or the sounds of her silence.

When dear God will this end?

Recently I’ve had the stomach to watch some news (mostly broadcast); want to know what they are saying. Last night Charlie Gibson, ABC, was quite a surprise. A decent converage of Sarah’s Grand Rapids Book Signing including quote from 18? year old girl who, when asked if Sarah was qualified to be President replied: No, but she has more experience than Barack Obama!

NJN News last night: Hundreds of medical doctors, led by Dr. Ira Smith, will march on NJ’s State House in Trenton this Saturday in protest of PelosiCare. Smith has called for legislators to come down from their Ivory Tower. Calls for less government involvement, a public option without gov’t intervention, and to focus on fixing what’s broken rather than the huge revamp.

On the previous night, NJN covered a private medical enterprise serving the Toms River NJ school employees. It’s doing very well, thank you, they say.

There are videos of this coverage available. Not certain if they archive them, though.

Does anyone know who the 6% of Americans not covered by the insurance program are?? I have searched and can’t find any discussion of it. Are they people that are rich enough not to get subsidies yet too poor to actually pay for the coverage themselves? I not the penalty for not buying insurance is tempered for those to whom it would be an undue hardship. Are those the 6%?

Good morning Murphy and Pumas!

Wow! looks like Sarah drew quite a crowd in Michigan..for her book signing.

“Hundreds Cheer Palin in Mich. for Book Tour”

A line of more than a thousand people — some sporting Palin Power stickers and Palin T-shirts — moved slowly into a Barnes & Noble store Wednesday to see the former Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor on the first stop of her “Going Rogue” book tour. During the hours they waited, some broke out in chants of “Palin! Palin! Palin!”

“Travel Diary: Secretary Clinton Promotes Use of Smart Power”

Secretary Clinton met with U.S. Embassy employees and their families while in Kabul, Afghanistan today. During her visit, the Secretary said:

“When I became Secretary of State, I said that I wanted us to be using smart power. And that was a combination of what too often has been divided between our incredible military assets, so-called hard power, and our diplomacy and our development, so-called soft power. But in effect, we have done a disservice to both by separating them out and labeling them, instead of looking at what they could represent in the furtherance of our values and our interests around the world.

(from the same article)
:::snip:::
Davis, who is running for governor, is the only black member of Congress from Alabama.

He is also the only member of the CBC to have voted against the healthcare bill earlier this month.

Davis referred to Jackson’s 1988 run for president in a statement, issued through his office, that said he would not engage Jackson on his criticism.

“One of the reasons that I like and admire Rev. Jesse Jackson is that 21 years ago he inspired the idea that a black politician would not be judged simply as a black leader,” Davis’s statement said. “The best way to honor Rev. Jackson’s legacy is to decline to engage in an argument with him that begins and ends with race.”

The state of NY has estimated that the cost of just the security for the NYPD for the terrorist trial would cost the city 175 million.
The city also expects to lose tourists dollars because of fear related to travel to NYC during the trials.
This on top of Governor Patersons announcement that NY will be broke by years end.

Question…IF the terrorist are guilty and will be sentenced to death as Holder states.
Then why the F are we having a trial?

FL Barbara,

I have heard some of the GOP pundits and panels saying that it may take more than 1 trial for the 9/11 terrorists.

I don’t have links sorry. I’ll just give a summary of what I remember. There statements were to the effect that, it is possible that KSM may not be convicted in the first trial, if he isn’t that the Government will rechage him and try him as many times as they need until they get a conviction. If they don’t convict him on any they will then figure out a way to hold him indefinately but that there are no plans to ever free him.

If that’s the case then why are they bothering to go thru the Federal Judiciary? What would the final cost be to NYC and Fed Gov’t to try him more than once? Granted this is coming from GOP side of the aisle and you have to place it in the agitator file. My whole quesion is why do it at all, leave it to the military court.

Why put the citizenry of NYC thru all the angst and heartbreak of reliving it?

Oh right, so the world will see America in a better light. “O” will have is historical legacy, at the cost of the people of NYC.

What a narcissitic A**wipe!

Goofs

Actually I heard what you did only I heard it from Holder himself.

So we have politics at play…the trial will attract much more attention as a civil trial in NY then a military trial in Gitmo, after all KSM has pleading guilty in Gitmo.
Obama needs press, so he can be the “first” President to put on public trial the terrorists, HE will have tried them, HE will have convicted them and HE will put them to death. Every effort made prior to that is NADA. It is all about Obama. He is the hero of 911 so all rejoice and be glad.
That’s why they have a back up plan already in place it will work to Obamas advantage no matter what.Civil trial conviction he is the hero, if the trial goes badly HE steps in and takes them to a military trial he is the hero who didn’t allow them to go free.

Holder played his hand.Obama will be the hero no matter what.

It will just be at the expense of NY.How very sad.

Dear Customer,

Cafepress looks at content on a case by case basis, and makes decisions about what content is permissible based on our content usage policy.

Anti-presidential gear has been a mainstay at Cafepress since we were founded in 1999 and has become a key component of political discourse.  Our site has become a cultural barometer of public opinion and as such designs often come into question.  In managing our content we are trying to protect self expression, while making sure we are not advocating violence.

We initially pulled the Psalm 109:8 content from our products today because broader media dialog indicated that these designs potentially suggested violence towards the president. Based on current public discourse and further review of the actual content, we have determined that it is fair political commentary and we are in the process of reinstating this merchandise.  As with all of our content, these designs will continue to be reviewed and if at any time their meaning is construed as advocating violence we will revisit our decision.

I just got back from trying to pick up Roxie from the vet. I had a talk show on the radio wls. They had people calling in about our bumper stickers, saying that we wanted the prez dead. The talk show host read the passage, and had preachers on who agreed, that this passage was not wishing him harm, only that he be replaced…back to Chicago lol. Said they were taking passage out of context!

219

prplvette85 11.19.09 at 4:21 pm

btw, they called me told me I could come get Roxie. I got all the way there, signed the papers, talked with the vet, and was waiting for them to bring her out. A nurse came out and said Oh, we did have one incident we didn’t tell you about. A male nurse was trying to give Roxie some pills and she wouldn’t take them, he tried again and she bit him….it’s not bad …don’t worry…but..since she could not have her rabies update because of the cancer, she will have to stay here for 10 days..of course we won’t charge you.

WTF? anyway.. after I went off on them, visited Roxie, I had to leave her, looking depressed because I could not take her home….
so goes my freakin day.

Goofs,
They by law have to report a bite to the county, and by law if rabies is expired, mandatory 10 days isolation. She is in jail for 10 days. I had to argue about how she is going to get her antibiotics and pain meds. So they put on a patch for pain, and an iv in for the antibiotics. I made sure they were on before I left. I told them I will be there everyday to check on her :(
and they better not be leaving her alone because it was their fault she bit someone, she was in freakin pain. It was early this morning it happened. Fucktards.

Bummer, did they mean keep her the whole 10 days or monitor her for 10 days. If you advised them to muzzle her and they didn’t do that, hopefully you don’t have any liability. On the bright side, if she stays there she’ll get professional care. But she’ll miss her home.

This bumper sticker is bigger than you know. All the radio talkshows are talking about it.
Some preacher in AZ, who told someone he prayed for obama to get sick and have to step down, got a visit from the IRS, the obots found out about and reported him, but after all was said and done they could not do anything to him because of freedom of speech… unless he told someone to actually hurt the prez could he be charged.

229

BigCatLover 11.19.09 at 4:39 pm

Goofsmom’s suggestion about getting your vet to intervene is a good one. If they would let her board with your vet that would make it a little easier on you so you don’t have to travel so far.

I called Banfield, they would charge me. I will not be returning to that vet. I have spent over 1000.00 leading up to this surgery. They kept having me come back and back, each time at least 300 bucks a pop for some kind of test. I am done with them.

233

prplvette85 11.19.09 at 4:50 pm

I am trying to look at this in the positive. At least she is at the vets. They will keep a watch on her. I made it very clear, that she not be left alone, and that she better have her meds on time, as I will “pop” in. I told them I would be in the area. So at least Roxie can recover without Kricket trying to play and lick her wounds. I asked for her chart and pointed out the first visit ever.. that she deal with females only unless muzzled. They are clearly at fault. I think they know I am not playing.

There is a guy on Fox tv who has made over $84,000 wearing companies’ slogans on t-shirts and putting photos of him in them them on the ’social media’ as he calls it. His website is http://www.iwearyourshirt.com

He plans on raising his prices next year.

235

sheila7 11.19.09 at 4:56 pm

prplvette85,
How frustrating. Once when my dog was waking up from surgery he bit the technician. He put a hole in her nose. Yikes! He had never bitten anyone. I was upset but the vet did say it was their own fault. She said they should have muzzled him knowing that could happen because he was in pain and afraid. He was just so good all of the time she didn’t think they needed to. So, I don’t think you would be liable or anything.

Can she be boarded at your vet’s office? That would be a little nicer. My boxer also had cancer and he had to stay for 5 days at the animal hospital once. He was biting them because he was so afraid. It took two people but they always got him his medicine. Eventually he settled down and just one was able to give it to him. She was so sweet. She said, “All he needs is some tender loving care, I’m not afraid of him.” and he didn’t bite her. Anyway, I’m rambling, my point is try not to worry about her, I’m sure she will be taken care of. I wish there was something I could do for you. I know how bad that sucks.

236

prplvette85 11.19.09 at 5:09 pm

Thanks Sheila.
I called the talked to a doctor at the hospital on the way home. She assured me they knew it was their fault, and that they are not afraid of Roxie, that she was groggy, and in pain. That’s when she said she would make sure she has a pain patch, and will try wrapping the pill in little “meatballs” and see if she will eat it that way. I told her cheese works at home lol. She said I could call and come in anytime. I don’t think they will mistreat her, because of this.
They said the bite barely broke the skin, but they still had to report it.

PUMA Ladies, kittehs, dawgs et al:

We know women deserve greater options in health care, not more limitations. Such restrictions really are typical for women in the major spheres of our lives. We are fed crumbs. Every little improvement is a big battle, and we have to fight it over & again.

I’ve been listening to the radio for much of the evening and can tell you the airwaves are filled with reports & comments about the mammogram guidelines. Most people reject the new restrictions for reasons already cited in this thread. Some women, like me for instance in a couple of previous threads here, don’t want to have fewer mammograms but simply wish women had fuller options for additional screening methods, namely ultrasound and MRI.

Moreover, we want all 3 methods together– mammography, MRI, and ultrasound– to be more affordable and available across this country. More, more, more good options for more women in more places with more affordability and accessibility, period!

Why should we settle for **less** if we’re indeed human? if we’re citizens? if we work hard? if we’re constantly reproducing the damn human race every damn day?

250

prplvette85 11.19.09 at 7:49 pm

Some great fricken lawyer is o’fraud and his atty general Holder. Because they both were on filmed on t.v. both saying at different times that they each guaranteed the guilty conviction of the terrorist in NYC, in the American judicial system, the defense can ask, and should get a dismissal of charges, siting the President of the US and the ATTY Gen. already convicted him before trial.
Fox New.
CAN WE IMPEACH HIM NOW?

251

FLBarbara 11.19.09 at 7:50 pm

Does anyone find it strange that Holder and Obama who are Constitutional lawyers are running their mouths off about how convicting these terrorist is a sure thing?
They are because of a civil trial innocent until proven guilty.
So why are they both ensuring a defense attorney will use Obama and Holders words in defense of their clients.
I think it odd.

Sorry to hear about Roxie, but all will work out. It just sucks.

About the mouths that roared maybe they missed those classes at Harvard.

All the papers in NY have it covered as front page..Guilty.
Asking why a trial?

Also believe that a good defense attorney will ask for a change of venue. How are you going to find a jury in NYC that has not been affected by 911?
This whole thing is bizarre to me.

Obviously neither O’notalawyerwithabrain and his pathetic side kick has ever seriously done any constitutional law. Any defense lawyer in the US would be laughing their ass off with the two fools mouths running.

But given that, what then was O’notapresidenteither’s goal He surely orchestrated this but I can’t figure out why.

My best guess is that they thought the far left would be pleased, thrilled, ecstatic that the Gitmo thugs were getting fair trials and the right would be happy because they would all be foung guilty.

If so, as usual, O’foolandshithead forgot that some time would pass between the two results.

I am vehemently opposed to treating terrorists as if they have commited a civilian crime. This is the craziest thing O’dumberthandirt has done so far.

Why does his grandmother in Africa not want anything to do with him, or has never visited the WH? I don’t believe a thing about his faked up past. We never saw his college grades, and it’s obvious by his actions with the terrorist issue, he is not on America’s side.
Wasn’t it real convenient that he signed the Hate Crime Bill.. it wasn’t to protect Gays, lesbians or women, it was to protect the muslims.

{OT about garlic and pets}

A year or so ago, I noticed some websites were ranting about whther or not to give garlic to cats and dogs. Several vets advise against garlic, despite it having been used for ages to ward off worms, fleas, and health problems.

IMO, their negative pov on garlic is based on their mistaken assumptions that garlic is “dangerous” because it’s in the onion family, and some onions do have a substance, thiosulphate [I looked up the chem name], in levels high enough to harm small dogs and most cats.

However, garlic has only tiny traces of it. For garlic to be “dangerous” you’d have to tell a small dog to snarf up a load of many entire garlic *bulbs*, which would be stupid anyway for reasons obvious to most dogs and even many humans. One sliver’s worth has beneficial effects, as you already know.

It’s all about moderation and common sense. Both are in short supply.

Social-Psyche,

Excellent points and part of why I’m so aggravated. There are no spokespeople for women. What I mean by that is “all women” we are not and should not be part of any political party because they only espouse male ideals.

Hasselback is not a conservative because she is not a man.

The very fact that she trots out the male framed talking points as if they were her own, just plain drives me nuts.

I would like to propose that everyone at Puma call the voting secretary of the Justice Department and demand a congressional investigation into ACORN- a group that has been taped instructing would be child prostitution ring leaders.
What could be a more important use of time than to go up against Att. Gen. Eric Holder for his attempt to get ACORN refunded by failing to investigate them. We all ready discussed how CA A.G. Jerry Brown is attacking the Big Hollywood for exposing this criminal investigation instead of investigating ACORN-sick.
Eric Holder is a racist and an adolesant rebel without a clue. Letting this ACORN crime go unchecked puts him in the same hall of shame as Tom Delay.

Please call 1-800-253-3931 and insist that Eric Holder do his job.

296

Zee 11.20.09 at 2:58 am

oops…hit the wrong button! To continue on Hasselback, I don’t rank her with the likes of, say, Michelle Malkin, who disseminates misinfo as an actual campaign. I think Hasselback may well believe that, and it’s not hard to see why. NOW may have said something about Palin, but the rank and file women who consider themselves liberal are still parroting the ingrained male Palin-bashing mantras. They don’t see the problem. Yes, we should be acknowledged, and TGW and Shakesville and all the others who have spoken up should be acknowledged, but there are just as many “progressive” sites where the opposite is true. They’re still piling on. (You just have to see TGW’s take on Andrew Sullivan…he stands alone. He simply stands alone in Palin obsession…you just have to see it to believe it.)

Anyway, I think Hasselback should simply be informed that she’s overlooking a lot of voices that are being raised and just because we’re being drowned out by the obsessed Palin-bashers doesn’t mean she should join the opposing ranks and *help* drown us out. She should help amplify our voices to improve the lot of women running for office whatever side of the aisle. Ask her to help. Ask her to acknowledge Hillary faced the same thing. Acknowledge that we spoke up from the minute we saw the same thing happen to Palin…and that now that she knows, she should help amplify that so that more people know women should stand together on this and say, enough!

Give her the chance. See what happens. It’s not easy to break through the “narrative.”

“Hillary and Fabian Sittin in a Tree”

While speaking at a college in the Philippines on Friday, November 13th, Secretary Clinton was asked this pressing question:

“If you had a crush, aside from Bill Clinton, who would it be?”

Hillary mentioned one name. Fabian. Her crush as a schoolgirl in the fifties and sixties. She said:

“Many, many, many, many years ago, when I was young, there was a singer in the United States whose name was Fabian. Some of you who are my age remember. And I was president of the Fabian fan club. And there were, like, three of us in it, but we took it very seriously.”

From Sarah Palin’s facebook:

Cancer Screenings – Rational Advice or Rationed Care?Share
Today at 1:10am
It was a breath of fresh air to finally hear the Democrats admit to their health care bill as “a lot of show and tell and razzmatazz,” (see Democrat talking points, in reference to my book). At least now we’re all on the same page when discussing the problems with their monstrous government health care “reform” plan.

Now, tonight, more disconcerting news – the New York Times reports of new guidelines to scale back cervical cancer screenings. The recommendation from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists comes on the heels of another recommendation to limit breast cancer screenings with mammograms. There are many questions unanswered for me, but one which immediately comes to mind is whether costs have anything to do with these recommendations. The current health care debate elicits great concern because of its introduction of socialized medicine in America and the inevitable rationed care. We need to carefully watch this debate as it coincides with Capitol Hill’s debate and determine whether we are witnessing the early stages of that rationed care before the Senate bill is rushed through as well.

Another question is why these women-focused cancers are seemingly receiving substandard attention at a time when proactive health and fitness should be the message. Every woman should encourage rigorous debate to ensure that our collective voices are heard. We are paying attention to Washington’s health care proposals, and we want to hear what helps patients the most.

We need answers: Is early screening not saving lives? Why do doctors’ groups disagree? Did costs play any role in these decisions to change the recommendations on breast and cervical cancer screenings? We need assurances that everything we’ve heard this week about fewer tests for women’s cancers is a result of patient-focused research and providing the best care for the right reasons, and not because of bureaucratic pressure to control costs.

Obviously the first thought that comes to mind when hearing of these new recommendations from bureaucratic panels is “rationed care.” It’s fair – and healthy – to ask if that’s what Washington has in mind with a government-controlled takeover of a health care system.

Well I guess we are the ones’s who will lose in the HC bill.

My Senator Bill Nelson SOLD OUT for Billions for a new power grid

Now Landrieu SOULD OUT for even less….
“On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”…the one state Louisiana.

WHAT did your state get???
I can say one thing… VOTE THEM ALL OUT!!!
Off to work…pissed and with phone numbers in hand.

They were against things in the bill…would not support it..but now..well “Pay To Play”..They Sold Out for Money.

Stand on Your principles…what the people of your community sent you to Washington for..to represent Them. Not to sell out to any party or be bought off by Washington elite. If you can not stand by who your are, what you believe,(right or wrong, by my standards)..Then YOU or I could go to Washington and sit in their place.

My Senator (Nelson) has been catching Hell over this bill..and he was againest it…then “O” made the trip 2 weeks ago to Fl. with him to give Billions in New Tax Money..he is Now for this BS. He is gone in 2012…we are more conservative Dem’s here.

We need a bill that is NOT going to Bankrupt the Country, do some Good for people who really needed it, HELP WOMEN (not make it harder on us), Help Sr Citizens (NOT screw them)..this is a money grab..and redistribution of wealth..plain and simple as I see it.

I see it everyday with my job….single mom 22/23..3/4 kids..free daycare..food stamps..SSI each child (you do realize they get around $600 a month for each child)..Free Medical..Gov’t housing Sub…AND THE DON’T WORK…and the better question is why should they.

It is a cycle they have been taught..I have had them look me in the face and tell me WHY Should I work??? And I want to say “Why should I pay your bills”. This is what is happening every day.. they have been taught they are OWED everything for nothing.

I would and Have given someone who really needs it my last dollar and worry about myself later. The key word is NEED..not Want or Expect. The system is going to collapse if views are not changed Soon..and the ones that will suffer..the old and really needy.

See a bad day coming.

Fabian, yum, yum. My favorite movie couple as a teenager was Fabian and Tuesday Weld. Yeah, I guess I was pretty shallow then.

I never believed that Landrieu or Nelson would hold out against the hc bill. They are both pretty mainstream democrat, not conservative or a rebel. I don’t see this as a surprise at all.

Not surprised, either that a LaRouchie has an agenda here. I don’t want PUMAs becoming a joke and anyone with half a brain who saw those squeaky white kids bankrolled by monied rightwingers would not be fooled for a minute that they were a “pimp” and a “ho.”

Please. Yes, ACORN hires some people from the community who wouldn’t be able to get any job elsewhere, but no one except a rightwinger with an agenda would extrapolate that into saying the entire organization tries to “help” prostitution rings. I’ve debunked this before, especially the LIE that the tools told about “no one” turning them away, and as many times as you come in out of the blue and try to whip people up here into a fury over that faux outrage, I’ll debunk it again. But, nice try.

Come to think of it, you came in right when people were discussing how to debunk the “no liberal women’s groups defend Sarah Palin” meme…so I’ll keep track of what’s important enough for the rightwingers to attempt to derail, too.

Looks like we have a winner in the Hasselback Prowl!

Speaking of which, some female editor of The Nation sent me an email this morning pushing the “Going ROUGE” spoof of Palin’s book. I immediately wrote her back and chided her for internalizing sexist attacks on other women and said that if they didn’t have any better way to criticize Palin except by denigrating all women via looks and makeup they should stfu.

We really do need to reach out to Hasselback and let it be known that, no, not all women or women’s groups from the left are falling in line with this line of attack!

There was a woman from the Center for Medical Consumers on Washington Journal talking about the new mammagram guidelines this morning representing a hc group that I had never heard of before. It purports to be a grassroots org formed in the 1970’s. If you are interested in medical care effectiveness and alternatives to standard medical procedures, you might want to check them out. Here is part of their About Us statement from their website:
http://medicalconsumers.org/

About Us
The Center for Medical Consumers, a non-profit 501(C)3 advocacy organization, was founded in 1976 with this philosophy: Whenever long-term drug therapy, elective surgery, or any other major treatment is prescribed, the question of whether the treatment has been proven safe and effective should come up. And the prescribing physician should be expected to cite the relevant studies. We want people not only to ask such questions but to explore the answers they receive from their physicians. Our first step was to open a free medical library to give people access to the same medical journals, textbooks, and drug reference books that their doctors use to make treatment decisions. The library continued in operation for 26 years, closing in 2001 as use of the Internet became widespread.

In 1976, we began publishing a monthly newsletter called HealthFacts, which critically evaluated the latest major studies published in the world’s top medical journals. Over the years, it became increasingly obvious that U.S. medical care is big business. Overtreatment, that is, the unnecessary use of tests, drugs, and surgical procedures, is the hallmark of America’s medical care system, which provides financial incentives for doctors and hospitals to put profits ahead of what’s best for the patient.

Dances,
I’ve been following this case, it’s close to home. I always give the victim the benefit of the doubt but I think there is more to this story. I’m not sure what to think about it. Supposedly a lady was held captive by them in the late 80’s and then suddenly got away. There is no record of her missing and she never reported it. Also, when they were about 5,6, and 7 they said their dad kidnapped a man and made them kill him and one of the little girls stabbed him in the face she said. Again, no record of a missing man and they kidnapped him at his house. I don’t know, some things just don’t add up. I’m following closely because I don’t doubt that a group of men could be responsible for this but my own gut feeling is that something is very off here.

Weren’t they digging for the buried jar? I thought I read that they were digging up the yard.

318

Zee 11.20.09 at 10:59 am

btw, in the alternative publication I work for there is an unbelievably ignorant woman in our office. One of the others there showed me one of the faxes she’d sent, as if I couldn’t tell just by hearing her what her writing would look like. It’s more than excruciating, but she manages to do her job and somehow I manage to say absolutely nothing about it, not even to those snickering behind her back, because I think…if our publisher hadn’t given her the job, where would she be? Where would others who depend on her be?

This is the reality for many people. I’m not that big-hearted, unfortunately, that I would’ve hired her myself, but I can at least see why some employers do. She actually asked me which was larger, 1/3 or 1/4. And I tried to answer in a way she could maybe remember and understand. I could go on, to even more hair-raising examples, but I just wanted to say that there are organizations which hire people “from the community.” These are people who would not otherwise be able to land an “office” job.

How can PUMAs, who can see that sexist attacks should not be tolerated no matter what political bent one is, not see that it’s equally offensive to hoodwink marginal workers at the bottom of the rung, in order to attack an organization? It’s actually counter-productive as well as irrelevant, because it’s natural to recoil at those who bray about a gotcha! game with a few low-hanging fruit.

And it effectively derailed the real investigation about Zerobama’s primary machine. It wasn’t charity-case workers who wrested the caucuses in Texas. But now that is buried in all the snickering on one side and manufactured outrage on the other about that ratty old rag doll “ACORN.”

To anyone who thinks it’s enough to point their body-snatcher finger at me and howl “defends ACORN!!” I’ll remind them that there are those, too, who shriek “Republican!” at anyone who defends Palin from ridiculous, irrelevant sexist attacks. You have something to say about ACORN that bears listening to? You’ll have to leave off the manufactured “prostitution ring” hoax because those low-hanging fruit are real life simple-minded people, and the bankrolled brats and the rightwing noise machine who found one or two of them to hoodwink for their *own* agenda are the lowlifes in that chapter of the story.

Political machines know these people exist in great numbers…that’s why they also use the reliable hoax of telling people “Republicans vote on Tuesday and Democrats vote on Wednesday.” That’s a classic. People, sadly enough, will fall for it. And many more barely rise to the mental level of being “suspicious” of the hoax, so great confusion ensues while “word” is gotten out that everyone votes on Tuesday. An unfortunate reality.

HP Boston 11.20.09 at 11:01 am

prplvette85,
They are digging for the jar. The original story said there were several jars. The adults told the kids to write down their bad memories and put them in a jar and they would be forgotten forever. It is a very large area of ground to cover. It’s in a rural area.

321

Deb55 11.20.09 at 11:08 am

I guess we will soon follow other HC standards…rationing

In UK.. mammagram ck only for women 50/64..raising age up to 74..if Dr finds signs of cancer..too late.
Here is the kicker..that is 1 mammagram every 3 years.

“There was a lot of criticism of the UK for having a three-yearly interval when breast screening was set up. Screeners and advocacy groups said, without evidence, that it was too long an interval. Population screening in the UK costs around £80m a year. These results indicate that our earlier predicted mortality figures were accurate and that there is no evidence in favour of shortening the current three-year screening interval.”
© 2008

Key words..Money & mortality acceptable rate (don’t want to be one of those numbers)

As for Senator Nelson..he told all the Sr Citizens HE would not let them cut Medicare..and this bill will do just that.
He was a key vote they needed…now they have it..Thanks to “O” approving Billions in grants to Fl.

And if we call the entire gender prone to depravity, we’re the ones with “problems.” But time and again the gang rapes include beating and *disfigurement* of the woman. Because an entire gender thinks women are subhuman tools at their disposal. So, small wonder these cretins gave girls over to animals. It’s not about the sex, it’s about the subjugation. Time and again.

Zee, that is a very excellent explication of how things work in non-profit, often government-funded offices and organizations. And I agree that the less than bright employees who were “caught” on the ACORN tapes dont really speak for the organization. So I wont attack you for your very reasonable points, but I do have a couple questions:

1. What about the woman in the DC office who clearly was NOT stupid? The one who went on Media Matters to defend herself. How does she fit in?

2. You call them low-hanging fruit because they are so obviously incompetent and/or lack basic education (and I agree). But these people are funded directly or indirectly by taxpayers to DO A JOB. What about the poor people in ACORN neighborhoods who come into the office and actually need services? If the places are staffed largely by incompetents, it’s a lose-lose situation: good money is wasted, AND vulnerable people and communities have PRETEND HELP. Compassionate, upper middle class liberals can pat ourselves on the back for funding ACORN offices and even being understanding and pleased that some low-hanging fruits get paying jobs, but WHY DO POOR PEOPLE have to put up with trying to get help from Low Hanging Fruits?

3. When government funds programs or organizations, whether its ACORN or Blackwater (at two vastly different ends of the same spectrum), and then doesn’t have REAL OVERSIGHT and Serious Standards and Expectations then we end up with BAAD outcomes all around: abuse and neglect of poor people in the one case, and brutal gangrape and coverups in the second case.

p.s today is debate day, so bring this discussion upstairs (if you are so inclined)

;-)

Hasselbeck is a celebrity who strongly believes her idealogy, but is more interested in promoting her career than actually joining with other women who fight attacks on women. She is not enlightened enough to appreciate Puma IMO or any other org that is not mainstream conservative. And that’s fine for her, but when she spouts off on subjects that she doesn’t really know much about, it is upsetting, but not that unusual with some celebrities.

You’re right…she’s probably just not that bright. Of course she’s just parroting the meme. But a lot of people don’t know there are entire online communities defending Palin from sexist assaults.

I still think Newsweek should be pulled from the shelves for that despicable slutty schoolgirl doll they pictured. That not only is an inexcusable attack on Palin but a horrific blind eye to the child rape it promotes.

But do we hear a peep about it? Yes, Media Matters stepped up to the plate and denounced it, but where the hell is Anderson Cooper on it? He ranted and raved about that Obama Curious George tee shirt made by some nobody. Where is he on this?

If it’s not in the Narrative, it doesn’t get airplay.

The online communities are best at amplifying points like this that all the blathering heads on tv missed. Palin-bashing offers an excellent opportunity to break through to them because they are so damned obsessed they’ll welcome any angle in which to keep talking about Sarah!

So, we should bombard them…Hasselback, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, every last one of them. Let them know that Hillary, too, faced death and/or violence threats from the likes of men who still have their jobs as mouthpieces. And let them know that there are multiple communities online who have never let up from denouncing that whether it was Hillary or Palin.

It’s conceivable Hasselback is parroting those talking points because she really has no clue, not because she’s well aware but has an agenda. If we want nonpartisan unity on this issue, let’s give her that clue, and ask for a response.

It doesn’t matter if your standard for photos is “gender neutral” if “what you are saying” (Kill the bitch before the uppity, brainless twat topples our SUPERMAN)

Hmm. I’ve seen “The Sound of Music” several times, and I never received the impression that the other nuns in the convent thought Maria was either a “bitch” or “an uppity brainless twat” nor did I receive the impression that they wanted to kill her (or even come close to it, for that matter) for any reason whatsoever. Could you reference a few scenes which support your contention? Thanks!
