obama in China, calls himself first Pacific president. Guess he forgot about Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon. Which is surprising since Reagan is one of his heroes. And Nixon was a Dick.
Speaking of which, isn’t it truly amazing how often obama likes to talk about, well, HIMSELF?

Report: Health bill would reduce senior care
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33946165/ns/politics-washington_post/
A plan to slash more than $500 billion from future Medicare spending — one of the biggest sources of funding for President Obama’s proposed overhaul of the nation’s health-care system — would sharply reduce benefits for some senior citizens and could jeopardize access to care for millions of others, according to a government evaluation released Saturday.
–snip–
In the face of greatly increased demand for services, providers are likely to charge higher fees or take patients with better-paying private insurance over Medicaid recipients, “exacerbating existing access problems” in that program, according to the report from Richard S. Foster of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

CMS: House Health Bill will hike costs $289 Billion
http://thehill.com/homenews/house/67791-cms-house-health-bill-will-hike-costs-289b
Excerpt:
However, the CMS analysis clearly states that the House bill falls short in attaining a key goal of the Democrats’ effort to reform the nation’s healthcare system: “With the exception of the proposed reduction in Medicare… the provisions of H.R. 3962 would not have a significant impact on future healthcare cost growth rates.”
NikkisMom 11.16.09 at 9:10 am
I made a post last week regarding the fact that Harry Reid plans to vote today on whether to bring the House health care bill (HR 3962) to the floor for consideration.
I’m trying to find news on that this morning to post here.
Meanwhile, I sent a list of the key senators (senators that are similar to the “blue dogs”) with their contact information to Murphy so that they could be posted in the Action Center. These are the senators that are wavering or on the fence. Right now, they’re saying that Reid has 57 votes to bring the bill to the floor (he needs 60). If you would like to contact them, please check the action center for their phone & fax numbers.
A tip I heard from a political savvy friend last week: don’t bother sending emails – most of them end up in their “junk email” folders and they don’t check those. Don’t know how true that is….I prefer to fax from my computer anyway.

Cops: School board chief apparently shot himself in head
Michael Scott, president of the Chicago Board of Education, apparently shot himself in the head along the banks of the Chicago River early this morning, police sources say.
Scott’s family had reported him missing on Sunday. Police used his cell phone to locate his body and his car behind the Chicago Apparel Center at 350 N. Orleans along the north branch of the river, police sources tell the Chicago Tribune. He apparently fell forward after shooting himself, and the gun was found near the body, the sources say.
Scott’s family, concerned about his whereabouts, had contacted police Sunday night, reporting he was missing.

Just dropped in to post some `good` news, sort of, in the Woman Lynching forum, re. the Domestic Violence Manslaughter case of Amber Cummings in Maine:
Amber Cummings, charged with murdering her husband last December, has pleaded guilty to domestic violence manslaughter and will spend at most one year in prison. [snip] “He [James Cummings] had abused her for years. From the very beginning she had explained to police that she had been abused and was basically defending herself and her daughter.” [snip] Cummings told police that before his death her husband was plotting to build so-called dirty bombs and set them off during the inauguration of President Barack Obama. She said Cummings intended to bring her and their daughter along on his suicide attack.

Leonid meteor shower to peak Tuesday
(CNN) — This year’s Leonid meteor shower will peak early Tuesday, forecasters say, producing mild but pretty sparks over the United States and a more intense outburst over Asia.
“We’re predicting 20 to 30 meteors per hour over the Americas and as many as 200 to 300 per hour over Asia,” said Bill Cooke, of NASA’s meteoroid environment office. “Our forecast is in good accord with … work by other astronomers.”
The Leonid shower is made of bits of debris from the Tempel-Tuttle comet, which streaks through Earth’s inner solar system every 33 years.
It leaves a stream of debris in its wake. Forecasters, however, say it’s hard to know exactly how many of the meteors will be visible.
“We can predict when Earth will cross a debris stream with pretty good accuracy,” Cooke said. “The intensity of the display is less certain, though, because we don’t know how much debris is in each stream.”
The first stream will cross over Earth about 4 a.m. ET. That stream should produce about two or three dozen meteors per hour over North America, NASA said.
Experts say people who want to watch the shower, which is visible with the naked eye, should get as far away from city lights as possible. The darker the sky, the brighter the meteors will appear.
High-altitude sites are best for viewing, reducing glare from the moon, and there’s no particular direction one should look for the best shot at seeing one, they say.

Nancy Pelosi on c-span this morning talking at the Harvard University Institute of Govenrnment talking about women and what they need to do to succeed in politics and how she governs differently because she is a woman. How women are about fairness and seeking truth. She also mentions that the original hate crimes bill included women and the opposition refused to pass the bill unless the women protection was removed. She talked about how the future plan is to work on DOMA. DODT, etc. but nothing about adding women back into the hate crimes bill. Students ask her questions at the end and most were about the HC bill and the Stupak amendment.
Here is the link for the live show that is almost over. I’ll post the link for the entire replay later when c-span posts it.

INDIVIDUAL CARBON ALLOWANCES
Everyone in Britain could be given a personal ‘carbon allowance’
Lord Smith of Finsbury believes that implementing individual carbon allowances for every person will be the most effective way of meeting the targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
It would involve people being issued with a unique number which they would hand over when purchasing products that contribute to their carbon footprint, such as fuel, airline tickets and electricity.
Like with a bank account, a statement would be sent out each month to help people keep track of what they are using.
If their “carbon account” hits zero, they would have to pay to get more credits.
Those who are frugal with their carbon usage will be able to sell their unused credits and make a profit.
Lord Smith will call for the scheme to be part of a “Green New Deal” to be introduced within 20 years when he addresses the agency’s annual conference on Monday.
An Environment Agency spokesman said only those with “extravagant lifestyles” would be affected by the carbon allowances.
He said: “A lot of people who cycle will get money back. It will probably only be bankers and those with extravagant lifestyles who would lose out.”
However, some have criticised the move as “Orwellian” and say it will have a detrimental impact on business.
Ruth Lea, an economist from Arbuthnot Banking Group, told the Daily Mail: “This is all about control of the individual and you begin to wonder whether this is what the green agenda has always been about. It’s Orwellian. This will be an enormous tax on business.”
Under the Climate Change Act, Britain is obliged to cut its emissions by 80 per cent on 1990 levels by 2050. This means annual CO2 emissions per person will have to fall from about 9 tonnes to only 2 tonnes.

Police: Search is on for N.C. girl’s body
By Gabriel Falcon, CNN
(CNN) — About 200 people were searching Monday in North Carolina for the body of a missing 5-year-old girl after “reliable information” indicated that she may be dead, Fayetteville, North Carolina, police said.
The search focused on land near a roadway because “reliable information received that the body of Shaniya Davis may have been dumped there,” the Fayetteville Police Department said in a statement.
CNN affiliate WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, is reporting that authorities have found the child’s body south of Sanford.
Investigators have been searching for Shaniya for several days.
Police charged the girl’s mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, with trafficking and other offenses, authorities said. Davis was “prostituting her child,” said Fayetteville police spokeswoman Theresa Chance.
Other charges against the mother include felony child abuse, prostitution and filing a false police report, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
The mother told police last week that the child vanished from their mobile home in Fayetteville.
Hotel surveillance video taken around the same time Shaniya was reported missing shows the girl with a man identified as Mario Andrette McNeill. He has been charged with first-degree kidnapping.

WHERE ARE THE WOMEN? Women are everywhere in our society–comprising more than 51% of the population. And representations of women are everywhere used to promote and advertise items from cola to underwear to the American consumer.
But, critics claim, images of women still don’t appear where it makes a difference—on money, on statues, on the means we use to celebrate our achievements and history.
Do women deserve a place on the pedestal beside warriors and presidents in American iconography? Does it really matter?
Renowned psychologist and bestselling author, Dr. Lynette Long will talk about the insidious effect of not celebrating female achievement in our culture.

But most fear that the plan might encourage companies to drop coverage for employees and shift their workers on to the government health care plan. A plurality of Democrats believe this would be good for workers, but most Republicans and unaffiliated voters disagree. As Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, wrote in the Wall Street Journal: “The most important fundamental is that 68% of American voters have health insurance coverage they rate good or excellent. … Most of these voters approach the health care reform debate fearing that they have more to lose than to gain.”]

Hey HP Boston
On my way out but trying to figure out this HC penalty.
If I as an American citizen do not have health care I pay a fine and go to prison? Do I go to prison once a year???
And for how long?
However if I am an illegal alien I am not fined and I do not go to prison even though I have committed a crime by virtue of my being in the US illegally?.
So am I right in saying I as a US citizen will be considered a criminal for not having health care?
But the illegal is not a criminal and pays no fines or jail time and still receives free health care?
Do I have this right and if so how do I become an illegal alien?
This can’t be right?

Further comment by the Hillaryis44 admin under the article about Hillary vs Palin. Holy shit batman!
http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local-beat/Scott-Linked-to-Several-70184157.html
Michael Scott’s suicide marks the third suicide among prominent public officials in the last two years – and each of the men were being investigated by authorities or already convicted of wrongdoing.
Scott, former Balgojevich aide Chris Kelly and former Stroger aide Orlando Jones all died by their own hand.
Scott, who was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday morning, was a mover and shaker in Chicago politics and a prominent member of the African-American community here.
Earlier this year, Scott was scrutinized over Olympics-related real estate dealings.
A key member of Mayor Daley’s Olympic committee, Scott also served as a consultant to a major condominium developer who proposed to build near the Olympic Village site.
Earlier this summer, Scott moved to sever his ties to another developer after the Tribune revealed his plans to build a retail and housing project near the proposed Olympic cycling venue on the West Side.
Scott’s business dealings led residents to suspect that Mayor Daley’s friends would profit the most from the proposed 2016 Olympic games, which of course Chicago failed to win.
Also recently, Scott made news when he was subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury looking into the admissions practices of Chicago’s elite schools.
Asked at the time whether he was aware of students being unfairly “clouted” into elite schools, Scott said he had no comment, but looked forward to answering any questions.
If Scott did indeed kill himself, he’s the second prominent public official with ties to development contracts to commit suicide in recent months.
Former Blagojevich aide Chris Kelly plead guilty in September for participating in an O’Hare kickback scheme. Days later, Kelly overdosed on pain medication.
Kelly was originally indicted on tax charges related to gambling debts.
Kelly and Scott were preceded by Orlando Jones.
Jones, a 52-year-old godson of ex-County Board President John Stroger and former top Stroger aide, shot himself in the head after a business lunch in 2007.
Jones had been under criminal investigation for real estate dealings in Las Vegas. He was approached by FBI agents two days before his death, but declined to speak with them.

CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President
Posted: November 16th, 2009 02:28 PM ET
From CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser
CNN Poll: Most Americans say Palin not qualified to serve as President.
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Fewer than three in 10 Americans think Sarah Palin’s qualified to be president, according to a new national poll – the least of any of the five potential candidates included in the survey.
But another woman tops that list in the CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday: two-thirds of the public thinks that Secretary of State HIllary Clinton’s qualified for the Oval Office. That’s more than Vice President Joe Biden, who’s currently next in line for the presidency.
According to the poll, 28 percent of Americans say Palin is qualified to run the White House, with seven in 10 saying the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee is not qualified.

Authorities also charged Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, with kidnapping after they said surveillance footage from a Sanford hotel showed him carrying Shaniya there. Authorities said McNeill admitted taking the girl, though his attorney said he will plead not guilty.
Davis reported Shaniya missing Tuesday. Authorities first arrested a man named Clarence Coe, but charges against him were dropped a day later when investigators tracked down McNeill after receiving a tip from a hotel employee.
Additional information led investigators to a search site near Sanford on Sunday. They continued searching Monday, scouring miles of landscape, roads, ravines and fields on four-wheelers and with helicopters.

After Shaniya’s body was found, a solemn group of searchers met quietly at a nearby fire station to ensure that all volunteers were accounted for.
“We were hoping that someone could carry her home,” said Syd Severe, 42, who came from Raleigh to help with the search. “It’s just sick.”
A cluster of emergency vehicles and law enforcement personnel gathered where Shaniya’s body was found, about a quarter mile from N.C. Highway 87. Authorities blocked access to the road, a rural area popular with hunters that is less than a mile from a large lakeside community.
Shaniya’s father, Bradley Lockhart, said he raised his daughter for several years but last month decided to let her stay with her mother. He had pleaded for her safe return.
“I should’ve never let her go over there,” he told The Associated Press on Saturday.
Before Shaniya’s body was found, he said on CBS’s “The Early Show” Monday that he remained hopeful someone would bring his daughter somewhere safe, such as a police station or hospital.
“They can drop her off at Walmart, I don’t care,” he said.
A man who answered the phone at the Lockhart home Monday afternoon declined to comment

You know, I sincerely hope Palin doesn’t run in 2012 – she’s simply not qualified and demonstrates a bit of an immature character by continuing to address each each and every attack aimed at her. Sorry, Palin is not someone that I think is qualified. BUT, I still think these kinds of attacks – especially by such prominent places, are disgusting and mysoginistic and these jerks need to cease & desist.
Al Gore’s Current TV calls Palin a “Gun-Ho” and a “TWILF”

Ophra is actually asking Palin how did she tinnk she could handle the job as vice president with 5 kids. She says she knows that is a question that would never be asked of a man, but how would Palin handle the job. When Palin said that she would handle it the same as a man would. Ophra says with voice raised, ‘but they have wives’. Geez!

Name what your requirements are for a woman to run for president – any woman (besides Pelosi) could do a better job than the current fraud……………I’m getting mighty damm tired of people (especially women) saying Palin is not qualified – like I said – what do you require in a woman in order for her to run for President??

To clarify my point in #57.
The reason Palin would have great difficulty defeating “O” is because he will at that point have a veneer of experience. Please note I didn’t say he would have experience just that sugar coating.
So therefore someone needs to run that has some experience. IMHO – Hillary would be able to beat him. None of the people that the Repubs are trial ballooning right now will be able to pull the independent votes away from “O” as well as HRC.
Again this is my opinion only. Palin seems like a very nice down to earth person, however we are not the only ones voting and we want to defeat “O”.

bullshit she was tapped to be vp and the press did a hatchet job on her to hear so many left wing nutjobs calling her a beauty queen and an idiot pisses me off she is a very smart and capable woman who ran the state of alaska and to see some of the same discrimination here that i see on these shit left wing blogs makes me sick why do you think she is unqualified !!! obviously you bought the same misgynist hack jobs you stand against
every one who goes into the job has to learn the ropes why would she be any different do you think she was qualified to be vp ?

Hi Murphy and all, Haven’t been on the board for awhile, and wanted to check and see what’s going on. It’s all bad, isn’t it?
Happened to walk by my husband’s TV (I never watch what he does),and there was that little worm that impregnated Sarah Palin’s daughter on TV AGAIN. He is a piece of scum, and I think Sarah should file a restraining order to have him gaged unless he can show any proof of any of his accusations about the Palins.
He should be glad it wasn’t my daughter. I would have taken him to the deepest part of Alaska and left him there. Then he could find out how good his survival skills are.
I can not watch the news anymore. If I see that “bo bo’s” face , I get ill. I think about all of the things our Hillary could be doing as President. I didn’t want her to take that job in that phonies administration. She would have been one of the most important Senators we have. I know she must have had a good reason, but I can’t figure it out.
I see where LaRosa and those other nuts had their way and got Lou Dodds off CNN. He was the only one who fought against all the illegal immigration in this Country. Now I suppose they will all be given immediate citizenship. I can see CNN’s ratings going down the drain, and I love it.
Take care, and be safe.

NikkisMom 11.16.09 at 5:30 pm
Susie #65 – I never said Obama was qualified either. Just because she’s a woman, does not mean that she’s qualified. Just because I’m a woman, doesn’t mean I’m qualified. Just because Obama was African American didn’t mean he was qualified either. I care more about the country than the gender of who is running for president.
As I said before, she’s too immature. Matter of fact, she’s just as “thin-skinned” as Obama. Someone of presidential material, a leader, does not get down & dirty with the school kids that are attacking them – they rise above and stay on message.
“any woman (besides Pelosi) could do a better job than the current fraud”. You’re kidding right? Would you want the woman that just trafficked her daughter to run for president?
I’ll vote for *anyone* OTHER than Obama next time, provided that they’re not WORSE than Obama – and I can’t imagine anyone worse. I’ve tried to avoid this conversation about not believing Palin is qualified, but the fact of the matter is, if she believes she has enough support, she will run. And if she runs, she will lose because not all women belive she is qualified just “because she’s a woman” and we will be in for another 4 years of Obama.
Give us Hillary – she’ll win.
goofsmom 11.16.09 at 5:32 pm
tec1965,
I too respect Palin for all the things you stated in #84.
I was just saying that the all the Candidates the Repubs are floating trial balloons for will and would have a tough time defeating the “O” machine. Palin, Huckabee, Jindal and Pawlenty re: experience… Romney because of HC program problems in MA, being a Morman, and a plethora of other items.
NikkisMom 11.16.09 at 5:34 pm
P.S. – when I say “unqualified”, I’m not talking about her education level, familiarity with govt., etc. I’m talking about her emotional maturity level, etc. Anyone can read a book and learn the ropes of govt., but not how to suppress your personal defense mechanisms at every charge and keep governing.

When he runs again, he can talk about all the experience he has garnered being President. He will be able to compare that to her 3 years experience as Gov. and her next 3.5 years of experience after she resigned her Governership doing ?
I don’t like having to bring these things up, but this will be what she will have to face if she runs for 2012. This is the reality.

I don’t think she needs more experience because Obama had no experience when he ran and no accomplishments.
I do however believe that she needs to make accomplishments and lobby for legislation and different bills. Maybe she could be like an Al Gore and try to help with clean green energy without being a public official. So if she proves to accomplish things as just an ordinary citizen I believe public opinion will turn and it will boost her chances.

After the way HRC and WJC have campaigned for BO and supported BO in every manner possible, I sincerely doubt HRC has any intention of challenging BO for the 2012 nomination, as much as I would wish and pray for that to happen. Besides, as has been pointed out here many times, HRC is a D and not likely to buck the party. I’d love to see it, but, realistically, I just cannot believe it will happen. (On the other hand, Palin already has a track record for bucking the GOP party, and would be more likely to do so again, perhaps running as an independent or if drafted by a new party.) Remember, too, that HRC and WJC have seen/experienced every atrocity against democracy and the former D party that’s happened in these past two years as party insiders, not from the outside as PUMAs have. Clearly, they have made their peace with their compromise with BO and the Obamacrats. It pains me to say it, but they are obviously just as concerned/occupied with ensuring their own financial and/or political futures as the rest of the ‘political aristocrats.’ And I say that while retaining the huge admiration and respect I’ve always had for both of them. Perhaps they’ve just been overwhelmed by aging and appalling circumstances. I can certainly relate to that.

Soooo… here it starts.. a new “government task force” telling women to forget everything we have heard about mammograms and self breast exams. Getting involved in our healthcare and telling us about our own bodies…
New advice: Skip mammograms in 40s, start at 50
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091116/ap_on_he_me/us_med_mammogram_advice
NEW YORK – Most women don’t need a mammogram in their 40s and should get one every two years starting at 50, a government task force said Monday. It’s a major reversal that conflicts with the American Cancer Society’s long-standing position.
Also, the task force said breast self-exams do no good and women shouldn’t be taught to do them.

It is a rational concern though — what WILL the lamestream media (love that!) say about Palin?
You can just FEEL the raging condescension just DYING to break free behind the not-quite perfectly measured and balanced reviews of her book and interview tours.
The only way Hillary can run in 2012 is if:
A. obama decides to not seek reelection (how likely is that?).
B. Hillary decides to challenge him anyway, a la Ted Kennedy in 1980 (how likely is THAT?)
C. Hillary decides to run as an independent, a la Ross Perot (how likely is THAT?)

I walked around smiling before the race began in 2008 hoping HRC and Condi Rice would both run, then whoever won, it would be a female. Anyone heard any rumors Condi is thinking about running.
———————
No, but there are rumors about Dick Cheney running again, and Liz Cheney was on Fox and they asked her if she was thinking about running, and she avoided the questions. So I was just thinking maybe somewhere in that mix, Conde Rice might just be thrown in there somewhere. I know that they want a strong female on the Repub side. She is the only one I could think of. I really think the Repubs want the first female Prez. after the fiasco last year.
shouldvevotedforhillary 11.16.09 at 6:35 pm
I heard Condi wanted to pull away for politics but I suppose it’s always a possibility. I wouldn’t want a Bushite being pres but like others said it might prompt the dems to reinstate a woman… But again, it’s not so likely.

Shadowfax 11.16.09 at 6:39 pm
The only way Hillary will run in 2012 is if the Democratic Party needs her to win, and pull them back from the brink.
Either the brink is caused by Obama ruining the economy more that he already has (God forbid), or the Repubs come out with a slam-dunk candidate that only Hillary can win against.
Hillary will never run unless she knows the DNC will not stab her in the back and steal the election again!!!!
If Obama pulls off one success in four years and the economy comes back…which in all financial cycles, it does…he is a shoe in for the Dem. candidate.

We need Obama’s approval rating to fall to 40%… When that happens I’m sure we will hear criticism from democrats and that’s when people like Palin or Hillary will start to take notice and announce that they are running/stepping down.

We need to show women like Hillary and Sarah that they have our support too. Part of the responsibility falls on the voters. If we are out there advocating for them they will take notice and consider running.
murphy 11.16.09 at 6:51 pm
oh and btw, goofsmom, I totally get what you are worried about. How do you weigh your very strong desire to support a woman candidate against your very strong desire to see BO defeated?
As I’m sure other pumas also understand.
I for one am holding the line and will vote for the woman in the race whoever she may be, excluding satan, the monster-mother in North Carolina, Phyllis Schlafly, and anyone who openly advocates homophobia-racism-misogyny.
Luckily, there are like, ZERO women running for office who are either Satan, the mother in NC, Schlafly, or the prez of the KKK or some such. For some reason, Satan, child-murderers, and professional homophobes and racists tend NOT to ever be women. Color me surprised.

Big Cat Lover #96 I would never watch that big bag of hot air.
She influenced the election when she had that fund raiser. She has a large following; why I don’t know. She made a fraud’s
book #1 when she endorsed his book.
She made a fraud a President. Well, Levin is the biggest turkey around.. Couldn’t resist.
Again, I agree with your post #110. Sarah is mature; she just has something most politicians don’t – compassion, the need to tell the truth.
I have her book on order. Can’t wait to read it.
Please prplvette85, don’t even think about Condi running for President. I couldn’t vote for her if she were running against
“Bo Bo”. I would write in Sarah Palin’s name.
Haven’t been doing too well. That’s why I haven’t been on the board. The Fibro and Arthritis have been terrible. I had three

Millions will have to repay part of tax credit
WASHINGTON — More than 15 million taxpayers may owe the government $250 or more because of how the IRS last spring set up President Barack Obama’s tax break that was designed to help consumers spend the U.S. economy out of recession.
Individuals with more than one job and married couples in which both spouses work may have to repay the government $400, either through a smaller tax refund or a larger tax bill, according to a report released Monday by the Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration. Social Security recipients who also earn taxable wages may have to repay $250.

Hi PUMAS! Hope everyone is doing well.
I’m not going to inject myself into the drama too much but 2 things-
NikkisMom is NOT and obot.
I’m all for women in office and on a personal level Palin seems like a nice lady, but, I personally don’t think she would make a good President. That does not make someone an obot for crying out loud. In fact, I am not speaking for Murphy, just giving my opinion on what I think to be true, but I don’t think this is meant to be a Palin worship blog. It gets old for some of us. JMHO.

I hear you and could not agree more. While I am still trying to recover from watching Bill and Hillary Clinton out on the campaign trail promoting the Shari-ah loving son of a polygamist, I now have to watch both Clintons rallying behind Obama’s hostile take over of our nations health care. Do Pumas support policies or personality? Palin is against the stimulus theft, she is against the Unhealth Care bill and against Cap and Trade. It seems to me she is fighting hard against the same distructive policies that we Pumas are fighting hard agaisnt, while the Clintons are promoting Obama crap health care bill. Could it be the Clintons just submitted to the will of Obama and are positioning themselves in the Obama political hierarchy? It is beginning to look that way to me.
Perhaps only 3 in 10 Americans believe that Palin is qualified to be president. But take in to consideration the flat out and numerous lies that were reported about Palin’s record and never corrected by the main stream media. People don’t think she is qualified because they have been programed by the MSM. If they judged her by her record of public service to the people of her state, which is the sole job of any governor, they would see that she always put her constituents first and was wildly sucessful in her position of govenor for all the right reasons.
If I had a choice today between Sarah Palin for president of HRC I would have to go with Sarah Palin. I am tired of fighting all of these big government power grabs that the democrats have been pushing through as law on week ends and in the middle of the night. I am not convinced that Hillary Clinton’s domestic policies would be much different than what Pelosi, Reid and Obama are pushing for. Surely the Clinton’s support of Obama-Pelosi Care will be used against them if Hillary runs in 2012.
I tend to agree with Murphy that Hillary won’t run in 2012. And as for Sarah Palin, I am no loyalist to any politician. I will be watching her over the next three year. I will judge her by her actions not by her image. If she continues to be an advocate for the people and stays away from the dirty money and influence of George Soros and friends, she will have my continued support.
Politics is the most corruptable career anyone can have. I have faith in Palin who is not afraid to work outside of the political structure to defend the rigths of Americans. I hope that she remains true to herself, and never gives in to a travisty of democracy, which the Obama administration has proven to be.

“The beginning of the end, the New York Post is reporting, came in July when CNN President Jonathan Klein told Dobbs’ staff in a memo to stay away from so-called “birther” stories about doubts that Barack Obama was really born in the United States.

Dobbs and Klein have been at odds ever since, according to the Post.”

I would suggest that people stop jusdging Palin by what they’ve been told by a hostile press what is in her book. After you read the book, if she only talks about clothes and the McCain handlers, then you can say that makes her dumb or immature or whatever insult you want to use. Those of us calling out such kneejerk judgments based on rumors are not Palin worshippers, we are saying stop the quick and shallow judgements on females based on popular media reports. Read the book then discuss the facts in the book.

BCL,
My opinion has nothing to do with anything the media has “informed” me of. That is the last place I would get info. It is just my own personal opinion. I disagree with her on many things. That’s all. No biggie.
I will say though that I struggle with supporting a woman just because she is a woman. I understand the concept, there is no other way to get equal representation, but I don’t see how that is different than African-Americans voting for BO just because he is black. And that is why we are in this mess to begin with.
BigCatLover 11.16.09 at 8:43 pm
sheila7 11.16.09 at 8:32 pm
If you did not claim that Palin just talks about her clothes and the McCain handlers mishandling her, then my comment is not directed at you whether or not you agree or disagree with her.
I don’t understand why the you struggle to support a woman just because she is a woman – if you can’t do that, then don’t do it. Why angonize over it. We all have our own values and ideas about right and wrong. Go with that and don’t worry if others are promoting another course of action. Do what makes you comfortable. I seriously doubt anyone here can support ANY woman just because she is female. There are some woman we each could never support.

WAAAAY more likely to be running in Tennessee or Arkansas or one of those God states.
sheila7 11.16.09 at 8:50 pm
BCL,
I struggle with it because I do feel like there is no other way to achieve equality. The men aren’t going to do it for us. But, like I said I can’t support just any woman. It’s just something I have to deal with I guess.
sheila7 11.16.09 at 8:54 pm

School is going ok for me. Can’t wait until it’s done.
What is CE?
NikkisMom 11.16.09 at 8:54 pm
#168 – BCL – I’m not going by what the media has said about her book. There have been excerpts released for the last few days….even by ‘Palin-friendly’ sites.
As a woman, I will defend her from the sexism and mysogynistic attacks. Maybe sometime in the future she will be ready, but if I had to choose today, I would struggle with it. That’s the way I feel about it today.
We shall see in 2012…who knows what the future holds? There are all kinds of ‘rumors’ floating around – Condi Rice, Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin….are we going to support any of these women, even if they’re republicans? I don’t know – I suspect we each have to follow our own heart.
Whichever woman wins the presidency will be attacked like no man has ever been attacked and she will need to be able to withstand those attacks while not losing focus on governing at the same time.

NikkisMom 11.16.09 at 9:00 pm
BCL #178 – try taking the covers off and drying it out with a hair dryer. There may still be some dampness in it….but sadly, if the dryer were hot enough, it could have fried the components in it.
Try any cellular store – AT&T, U.S. Cellular – or even ordering online for cellphone batteries – all you need is the manufacturer name and model of the phone to find them.

Had to get a new phone. They were able to transfer the history and contact information from one phone to the other.
P.S. there is a sensor inside the area where the battery goes that let’s them know that the phone got wet. Bummer, because that is not something that is covered.

Hi Juliette, I respect you for standing up for what you believe, for fearlessly expressing your independent views, and for continuing to resist groupthink, groupspeak (which really boils down to peer pressure and the need to be accepted, no?). I happen to believe that SP represents the most realistic chance women have to achieve the WH in 2012. I doubt she will run as a GOP, but likely under another banner. (Who knows? If HRC can manage to free herself from the BO/Obamacrat albatross, SP and HRC could ultimately wind up on the same ticket if that much-discussed ‘summit’ over coffee does take place. This would be my dream ticket, which would be the Ds, Rs, the patriarchy’s and Islam’s worst possible nightmare!) At any rate, I’m going to take DWP’s advice, and follow the blogs that respect and stand up for SP as the accomplished, compassionate, intelligent executive woman she is, rather than blogs that tend to villify her because she was once an R, because of her faith, because she’s a wife/mother, because she’s straight, because she’s beautiful, because she’s real and intuitive, because she’s popular, because she hasn’t drained herself of all emotional responsiveness and become man-like as some women politicos have done in order to succeed in the patriarchy, etc., etc., etc. IMO, SP personifies feminism — the right to self-determination in all matters. I’ll be lurking, but focusing my energies on contributing elsewhere where I might be able to make some small difference. For now, I’ll be e-mailing up a storm, urging Congress to scrap any current hc bills being considered, and to start over and build carefully considered, true hc reform from the grassroots up. I’ll also be watching for all possible ways to support any viable challengers to Pelosi in 2010.

I think Palin’s actual policies are fairly unknown by the general electorate precisely because the media refuses to report on them.
I have been following her notes on FB and find her ideas and insights to be brilliant. The really dumb people are the sheeple that follow BO.
I am waiting to see if she can stand without bowing to the pro-life fanatics on the right. I think she will uphold precedent and insist that pro-life is her personal choice which she encourages others to take but will not force on anyone.

I just had to watch OBAMPRA’s interview with Sarah Palin. Sadly it was more of a trial than an interview, but hey, nothing new about that. Oprah was quick to interject the lie that Obama was defending Palin when he told the press that family was off limits. What a bunch of crap. Obama never uttered a word in defense of Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton. He meant HIS children and wife were off limits.
As far as Obamagirl (Oprah) is concerned, Sarah Palin should have stayed home and raised her five children, because unlike the male candidates, Sarah does not have a wife!

Palin talks about when she found out her last child had Down’s Syndrome, she was away from home by herself, and having an abortion crossed her mind because she had not told her husband yet. She said she understood how it can seem like the best way out of a problem pregnancy and why some women consider it.

Sarah Palin appointed a pro-choice Alaskan- supreme court judge before she was run out of town by the Obama thugs. An Alaskan news paper said that she resisted pressure from pro-life groups in doing so. I have posted a link to that article here in the past and so did persephone. (Sorry I no loger have the link address)
Palin’s policies don’t have to be unknown as her voting record is a matter of public record.
In reading a recent article in the Philadelphia Inquirer “How PA gas industry came to be tax-exempt,” I learned that the state of Alaska (based on 2007 market production,) taxes the Natural Gas industry 25%-to 50% while the second highest taxes paid were in New Mexico at only 8.67% to 9.5%. Texas and Oklahoma followed at a mere 7 to 7.5% and other states were as low as 2%. Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York and Maryland do NOT tax gas extraction.
I am not sure what the word “progressive” means to most democrats these days. But from what I can see. Sarah Palin is the servant of big industry but is someone who made sure that the people of her state were more than fairly compensated for the exploitation of their natural resourses. Maybe that explains why her approval ratings were in the 80-90% range.

I’m going to hop in here and say something…
The Republicans will not vote in a woman candidate to run against Obama in the Presidential elections of 2012.
Palin is a Republican, therefore see above.
If and when she changes to an independent party, which party platform will she choose?
My point being, as things stand right now, this very moment, Palin will not be running for President in 2012.
Everything else is sheer speculation.
Sorry if I’m being blunt… these are just the facts.

Sure everything is speculation right know. But in your comment you end with “these are just the facts.” The only fact that I read was that Sarah Palin is a republican. Everything else, was sheer spectulation.
I cannot even spectulate over what either party will do as far as daring to put a woman up against Barak Obama. At least the republican party allowed the voters to choose their nominee, that’s more than we can say about the DNC. And at least John McCain was evolved enough to choose a female running mate, something we know is not true of the DNC’s selection Barak O’Burqa.
In any case next Nov. 2012, party will not be an issues in who I vote for. I will study the candidate’s individual records and scrutinize their biggest campaign donors. This is what too many Obama supporters failed to do. I will vote for the candidate who stands for American Sovereignty over a New Shari-ah accepting all powerful World Governance. I don’t like where America is headed and if I have to tug on the right side of the political (tug of war) rope I will. I quess most of us already have, in voting for McCain-Palin.
Lets pray for good people to have the courage to run for political office. It’s a tough and dirty game, especially in the new Obamanation.

Acceptable and safe, meaning it is your right to question and criticize, and it is safe, perfectly safe to criticize, and even slander Christianity without fear of say a Fatwa or being called anti-semetic.
I don’t know what kind of Catholicism your family was practising, but if you believe that having an artistic representaion of the Virgin Mary, Christ on the Cross or a number of Saints equates to worshiping statues, you are just plain ignorant on this subject.

I am not sure I understand what you are talking about in #257.
Do you mean your experience as a republican? If that is the case, no I have never been a republican, but I think that both parties went through major changes in the last couple of years. I strongly believe that the bulk of coruption can be found were the bulk of money and power is. I believe that the big corporatons, and Banks were all in betting on the democrats this year. MSNBC is owned by G.E. and CBS by Westinghouse, both defense contractors. This power can easily shift and so can my support. I am tired of fighting over republican verses democrat. I am against Cap and Trade, more Bailout money for Banks and hugh corporations, Health Care reform, (and we will never get single payer for anyone but govenment workers and unions, not a chance) and Card Check. These are the policies the democrats are imposing on the American people against their will. So what can I do for now. I hold no loyalty to any party. Certainly not to what the democratic party is now.

Juliette,
IMHO, the Repub party didn’t change it just became more focused on the wrong things… ie incorporating religious views and positions in politics. They changed along time ago on their support of women, I would say after WWII. They needed us for the war effort, after the men came home, women went back to being less than’s.
It took me a while to see the truth for myself. For that I hang my head in shame. (I’m not kidding here)
I was young and to busy working, trying to make my way and like most people that are politically uninformed, just voted party line and went on my way, back to my life and not really paying attention. Well, when I woke up out of the “to busy with my life to pay attention” stupor and really started paying attention, I was appalled.
Republicans will use women to get to the WH but they will never put a Woman in the WH as President. They would have to change to much.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me goofs. I don’t think you have any reason to hang your head in shame, as we are all just students of life here. Politics is about 90% deception so you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.
I grew up in Philly so as you can imagine, republicans were always a novelty to me. I know that I was indoctrinated into a very left leaning ideology as a youth both in school and at home.
The only republican in my life was my great uncle who came to this country with absolutely nothing and became very sucessful as a clothing manufacturer. He loved to talk to me about politics and he actually was turned off by the republican party during the Reagan years and became a fan of Bill Clinton. He died ten years ago and I miss talking to him about politics.
Well, goofs I respect you for depending on your personal experience to guide your views. It has always been my way.
I don’t have any experience as a republican, and I wish there was another party to go to. I did support Ralph Nader in 2000, but hird parties have a real hard time in this country.
My biggest problem with the democrats today is their political correctness-complacency concerning Islam. We can discuse gay rights, reproductive rights, womens rights and all the rest, but believe me they won’t mean a thing if we do not stand up strong against the creeping Shari-ah culture that is infecting America.
I have seen how women Christians and Jews have to live in Isalmic countries. That has been my experience and I will not invite that kind of oppression into my country.

I too believe that women are any nations most valueable natural resourse. Just look at the countries that don’t allow women to contribute in their own ways to society. Those countries suffer in so many ways. Everyone, be it man, boy or girl, lives like an animal in countries where women are not valued and have no rights.

Has anyone else wondered if Nancy’s SOOO important visit to the Vatican last year may be connected to the Stupak Sellout ?
Juliette 11.17.09 at 2:06 am
I don’t know Cape?
I intend to email the Conference of Catholic Bishops and make it clear to them that they should oppose Obama’s government take over of Health Care, because it is just a 70 billion dollar give away to Insurance and Pharma companies. They should be concerned about people who depend on biologic drugs, who will be denied any hope of affordable generic forms of these biologic drugs that are prohibitively expensive. I have to do some research about Genetec, I think thats the name of the Pharma co. that is going to benefit greatly from this crap bill.
Cape Hatteras 11.17.09 at 2:20 am

What could the Pope offer her in exchange for fixing the RC church’s favorite political issue ?
Juliette 11.17.09 at 4:17 am
Hi Cape
I just sent my email to the Conference of Catholic Bishops.
I am not sure I buy into the Pope offering Nancy Pelosi something in exchange for the Stupak ammendment. The reality is that alot of these pro-life democrats are just that, and so are the majority of their constituents. I have a pro-life democrat senator in my state of Pennsylvania- Senator Bob Casey. His father was our governor and was also a democrat who was pro-life. I don’t belive that the Catholic Church has very much power over health care reform. The nation is just moving more to the right on this issue. I believe it has more to do with technology than religion, as in is clear that fewer Americans belong to a church than a decade ago. People see ultra sounds and it changes the way they feel about abortion. Some have witnessed late term abortions on an ultra sound screen.
I know that the Catholic Church along with other Churches would like to have influence concerning this bill. But the polls on how Americans stand on the abortion issue seem to indicate it is something else.
I like many of Catholics am pro-choice. I wrote to the Catholic Bishops only to stress the point that everthing about this bill and this administration is dangerous and wrong for America. I strongly recommended that they look at all aspects of this bill instead of focusing on abortion coverage.
God knows everything about it is dreadfully wrong.

Most Catholics have both. In Italy and in America. But they don’t pray to the tree. I don’t want an argument Juliette. Catholics pray to the virgin mary and all kinds of made up saints to get to their God. My family went to had the same Catholic religion as you do, directed by the Vatican, the same Catholics that take mob money in the name of God, the same Catholics that cover up priests molesting children in the name of God and the same ones that as you say use “artistic” statues to symbolize who they worship. No I am not ignorant. It is also the same Priests, who if you don’t belong to their church, or marry out of the church refuse to baptize a dying child. So don’t call me ignorant. You can choose what ever religion you want. It is a free country, but don’t try to school someone who has seen it first hand.

cannonfire has thought provoking post on this. Aside from what I think is a pretty good idea about how to cut this baby in half, he also quotes these statistics:
“Among evangelical Protestants, 23% support abortion rights and 71% say abortion should be illegal. (No surprise there.) Among those awful, awful Cat-licks, opinion is evenly split: 45% fer, 45% agin. Those numbers mirror the roughly even split we see in the overall population. Yet when liberals and feminists assign blame for atrocities like the Stupak amendment, guess which religious group receives the most venomous insults?
Catholicism. It’s the religion everyone loves to hate!”
Spare me the Feminism Hate joe, but his numbers are good. Nearly all of the Catholics I know are pro-choice, and the ones who aren’t are all pretty old.

White House Tally Appears to Overstate Stimulus Jobs
The Obama administration said Friday that spending from the $787 billion stimulus program had directly created or saved about 640,000 jobs through Sept. 30. Republicans challenged the claim, saying there was no concrete way to tally jobs “saved.” Less than half the stimulus money has been spent so far.
Ed DeSeve, the senior adviser to President Barack Obama on implementation of the stimulus plan, said Tuesday in a statement responding to questions from the Journal that the administration knew the reports were not “100 percent accurate” but that the plan was supposed “to create jobs, not count them.” He said that even the “approximate” total pointed to “tremendous progress.”

pro-life
why are ‘we’ still using the propagandist term “pro-life”??
when the opposition to “pro-life” would be “pro-death”?
-pro-choice [for women] vs. anti-choice [for women]
-pro reproductive rights vs. anti-reproductive rights.
-pro-rights for women vs. anti- rights for women.
-pro-freedom for women vs. anti-freedom for women,
etc.

If I buy a Christmas Tree and set it up in my house instead of a Nativity, which is more popular in Italy, does that mean I worship Evergreen Trees?

No. It means you’re particpating in a Pagan celebration that was stolen by thou-shalt-not-steal-lie christians.

I will stand my ground as your statement that Catholics worship statuesIS based in ignorance. It is embarassing to see this kind of bigotry here on the Puma site. I guess you also believe that Catholics are practising cannibalism during Holy Communion.
If you are going to criticize a religion know the facts. I don’t spread lies about Islam, here. Why do insist on defending a lie?

Stolen from the pagans?!? I think you mean imposed upon America Christians by secularist who cannot tolerate any true religious representation of the birth of Christ.
Hey, by the way did you ever find that perfect world in which to experience communism?

I just stated the facts. Furthermore, I never said you spread lies about Islam, so why are you bringing that up? And the cannibalism thing, you’re coming out of left field with that one, Why do you want to continue to argue? You have your opinion, I have mine. If you read the bible it says put no idols before me. Statues are idols.
tell the truth shame the devil.
