Want to know more about Obama’s “commitment” to prosecuting “terrorists”? I found this, written by Debra Burlingame back in May. She writes about a meeting that the 9/11 families and families of the USS Cole victims had with Obama in February. They’ve already caught on to his schtick.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124174154190098941.html

“This isn’t goodbye,” said the president, signing autographs and posing for pictures before leaving for his next appointment, “this is hello.” His national security staff would have an open-door policy.

Believe . . . feel . . . hope.

We’d been had.

..snip..

Given all the developments since our meeting with the president, it is now evident that his words to us bore no relation to his intended actions on national security policy and detainee issues. But the narrative about Mr. Obama’s successful meeting with 9/11 and Cole families has been written, and the press has moved on.

The Obama team has established a pattern that should be plain for all to see. When controversy erupts or legitimate policy differences are presented by well-meaning people, send out the celebrity president to flatter and charm.

Not great, but good.

“TEXARKANA, Ark. — Evangelist Tony Alamo was sentenced Friday to 175 years in prison for taking underage girls across state lines for sex, effectively punishing him for the rest of his life for molesting children he took as “brides” in his ministry.

During Friday’s hearing, some of Alamo’s victims testified about how their families were destroyed while the evangelist took over their lives.

Alamo, 75, had been convicted in July on a 10-count federal indictment. U.S. District Judge Harry F. Barnes said Alamo used his status as father figure and pastor and threatened and threatened the girls with “the loss of their salvation.”

Murphy,

I don’t have any lawn chairs. I don’t have a lawn! Can I bring my old Stratolounger chair instead? It’s roomy enough for me and 3 cats, and their fur doesn’t show {*HP Boston note*} because the fabric is a warm grey that also will complement the Moon’s natural palette. A harmonious decor is important, Murphy!

{** OT note to HP from downthread: Try a careful, sparing splash of hydrogen peroxide– the more diluted variety used as antiseptic or tootbrushing– directly on the cat’s throw-up stain. The h.p. acts chemically to bleach out food dye only (yellow-tan, reddish brown etc.), not ever hurting rug or fabric, or leaving any smell like vinegar+baking soda.}

I have links to follow up on a comment from Wednesday but I am now wondering if it’s more important to make a big full-moon batch of my Super-Crunchy, Never-Soupy, Good Fer What Ails Ya, Potato Salade.

And what about desserts?

I like the lavender variety but peppermint works splendidly also to break stains like nothing else can, even nasty water rust in sink and tub.

Question is, do you think just one bottle of Dr Bronner’s would be enough to clean up the gov’ment?

It would be easier, I admit, than convincing The People to dare to vote independent and dump the old Two Evils.

This is a stupendously unwise move on the part of the Justice Dept and obama. They will pay. New Yorkers wont like this one little bit and they will get the democrats back. Same with the rest of the country.

On the other hand, what if the freak is tried, convicted, and sentenced to death? Would that be bad?

26

sistermoon3 11.13.09 at 2:08 pm

I just find it odd Murphy that the president himself didnt announce this. He’s running around asia now dodging a lot of things including questions about the bombings of japan during the second world war…he’s a coward, while eric called us cowards, who is the real coward here, New Yorkers have to deal with this crap. HOw long would a trial like this take, hell, this will make the O J Simpson trial look like child’s play.
I just dont get how you decide to try an act of terror for detainees who have been held in a military prison, all of the sudden you are gonna put them in a damned civil federal court?
It literally beats all i have witnessed.

27

NikkisMom 11.13.09 at 2:12 pm

The *real* problem with allowing a trial in New York, in our justice system, is “discovery”.

28

NikkisMom 11.13.09 at 2:17 pm

excerpt from Debra Burlingame’s article:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124174154190098941.html

Mr. Obama was urged to consult with prosecutors who have actually tried terrorism cases and warned that bringing unlawful combatants into the federal courts would mean giving our enemies classified intelligence — as occurred in the cases of the al Qaeda cell that carried out the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and conspired to bomb New York City landmarks with ringleader Omar Abdel Rahman, the “Blind Sheikh.” In the Rahman case, a list of 200 unindicted co-conspirators given to the defense — they were entitled to information material to their defense — was in Osama bin Laden’s hands within hours. It told al Qaeda who among them was known to us, and who wasn’t.

re. New Yorkers rioting

You’re each right in your own sweet ways– but sorry Murphy, sistermoon is more right about riots in NYC!

Being tough, smart, panic-resistant etc. don’t cancel out rioting. Those are essential ingredients. Just consider the history of the city. I’ll cite some examples in my own NY accent:

* Extensive, city-wide riots by Irish and other immigrants when Abe Lincoln initiated compulsory military service via the first “draft” for the Civil War. Think arson, homemade bombs, pitched battles in the streets where sides were unclear, even firefighters, yes, the largely Irish FDNY first taking one side, then the other. People getting killed, burned out of their homes, you name it.

* Fire and riots were nothing new then. A hundred years earlier and still counting backward, the city of NY had been nearly destroyed several times by arsonists and rioters as control went back & forth between the British and the colonials, with American Tories included of course. It’s a wonder NYC survived those 10+ years of the War for Independence. A lot of buildings actually did not.

* Flash forward in time to the event often called simply Stonewall, or, The Stonewall Riots, plural. That was 1969.

* Riots over race and religion have occurred in more recent years. Just imagine Al Shartpton marching in Crown Heights, and you’ll get the picture.

* Some may call the “wilding” in Central Park an example of a riot. It was June 2001, a year remembered for 9/11 of course, but not for the attacks on women in the park during the Puerto Rican Day Parade. That behavior is deemed too common, oo ordinary, to be given the special place reserved for a “riot” in the city. Otherwise, such riots would be observed in every suburb across the country, huh?

About POTUS’s trip to Japan/stopover in Alaska to refuel – and may as well visit troops while there anyway lol.
1. It was not necessary to refuel on the way from the east coast. Since 1990 that I know of, the trip is non-stop.
Someone downstairs mentioned that Sarah was in Chicago at the time, but I’m certain he would have loved for her to be at home in Alaska. We’ve all seen him pictured with military, and until this time, all military visages were serious.
2. This trip, they were laughing and palling around like it was New Year’s Eve. Had to have been instructed and warmed up. Am certain it was an in-your-face to Sarah.
What a small man.

32

admin 11.13.09 at 2:27 pm

very true social psyche. sigh.

I’m being inarticulate. What I’m trying to say is I don’t like this sense of elevating panic. It’s counterproductive. It’s unrealistic.

Even if, actually ESPECIALLY if, something truly terrible were to happen right now that was literally life threatening, panic would STILL be an unproductive response.

The only time panic makes sense is when the plane is crashing and you’re NOT the pilot.

Otherwise, bad/scary times call for calm, determined thinking and acting.

I luuurve this part. It’s Donna’s own custom blend of simplicity, wisdom and historicity:

PUMA was never racist or motivated by racism. Failbots have to ask themselves: Is Alice Palmer racist? She responded exactly the same way to Obama because he cheated and used misogyny against her in exactly same way. She fiercely opposed Obama and supported Clinton in exactly same way. Agreed – the labeling of someone as a racist is used now simply to squash debate and reflects a lack of intellect and thought on the labeler. It’s used simply to brow beat people into submission lately. :(

The sad part is, with such frequent use of the term in cases where it clearly does not apply, it serves only to harm the people who are true victims of *real* racism and to minimize the true meaning of the word.

Murphy, i totally agree with not inciting riots, i too like the diplomaic approach to matters that are soooooooo contraversial
I didnt mean i wanted to see riots. And im quite sure if there were warnings of such, that this admin would change it’s direction. Perhaps they should hold the trial in DC. Because truly this was not an attack on New York as such, it was an attack on the United States of America, so actually DC would be the best place. Kiosk employee allegedly tore a crucifix from someone’s neck
by Emily West

Police arrested 22-year-old Abdul Walid Hamid of Hayward on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 4, after he reportedly tore a crucifix from a person’s neck and scared others at Stoneridge Shopping Center.

Hamid, an employee at a mall kiosk near Starbucks, has been charged with battery, terrorist threats and grand theft.

According to reports, Hamid was yelling “Allah is power” and “Islam is great” while holding a pen in a fist over his head. Witnesses said he shouted anti-Christian comments, said police.

President Barack Obama may be working hard over in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, November 13, 2009 — but back home, Obama and Psalm 109:8 are making Google’s hot trends list for a whole different, unknown and odd reason.

Whilst this reporter is always delighted to see Bible verses making their way into the vitriol that sometimes fills the Google Trends list, upon hitting up Twitter and Biblegateway.com for the Psalm 109:8 translation, I began wondering where the source of this “Pray for Obama” edict originated upon seeing the verse itself:

“Let his days be few; and let another take his office and charge,” reads the Amplified Bible’s translation of the Psalm 109:8 verse that for some reason is lighting up Twitter.com right now, too, with various tweets:

51

Social-Psyche 11.13.09 at 4:03 pm

Murphy and Sistermoon3:

I was going to say the obvious earlier, that one person’s riots is another’s peaceful protests. It all depends on who’s telling the story. Lately it seems the trick of choice is to simply deny the people ever joined together– no pictures, no discussion, means no such protest ever happened. When that trick fails, they resort to name-calling e.g. “tea-baggers” and “birthers” to denigrate and mock, but above all, to divide and conquer.

Rioting in panic and fear is self-destructive because if nothing else, it also divides people from each other. Even the most righteous anger has to be channeled into a constructive movement, which begins with a roar, and brings us together.

Now I’ve gone full circle back to what I wanted to post earlier. It’s another link that fits right in here.

transcript and MP3 of report about Italian sexism & feminism,
including Lorella Zanardo’s Women’s Bodies documentary
“Italian Women Assail Berlusconi For Sexist Remarks”
by Sylvia Poggioli
on NPR’s All Things Considered, October 28th

“This really was one of Europe’s most interesting and lively feminist movements, [but] they didn’t want to go mainstream, they didn’t want to mix,” she [former MP Tana de Zulueta] says.

The mood suddenly changed earlier this month when Berlusconi called in to a late-night talk show and made a jab at a female opposition parliament member, Rosy Bindi.

“You’re more beautiful than you are intelligent,” Berlusconi snipped.

The 58-year-old Bindi retorted, ” am not a woman at your disposal.”

The prime minister’s insult sparked outrage. A group of women drafted a petition saying Berlusconi’s statements offend female dignity and accusing him of using women’s bodies for his political ends, denigrating women and democracy in the process.

In 11 days, more than 100,000 women signed the petition, protesting against the “cretinzation of women.”

The feminist movement has come back into the open. [etcetera]

53

FLBarbara 11.13.09 at 4:04 pm

I have been doing a lot of talking today to the families of 911.
As you can imagine there is a lot of raw emotion attached to the decision to bring the terrorists to NY for a trial.

The one constant is there was a guilty plea, that has now been rescinded,in order to stand trial in NY. Why would those who committed an act of war on the US be given a civil trial under the protection of the US constitution a right afforded to American citizens and not members of a foreign army?.

There are many protests planned.
Seems as if this will always be an open wound and I am not sure if making a media circus out of a trial does anything other than further the political agenda of a few.

54

prplvette85 11.13.09 at 4:05 pm

DWP, CJK, BCL:

re. CJK’s observation & suggestion, I share that concern. He gets enough prayers and tithes already from his worshippers.

Another issue is that the psalm text, though 1 line, stil might exceed the k-i-s-s rule for vivid, legible bumper stickers if it were added to the existing 2 other lines.

If so, then maybe a solution to both issues is replacing “Pray for Obama” with Pray for The U.S.A. and using Obama’s name before either the ref # or text of the psalm.

Pray for The U.S.A. neatly rhymes if read aloud, is keeping it short & simple, and avoids confusing the country versus the politician, which is the clarity we need with too many people once again putting loyalty to party & president over their country and communities.

Re: Bringing the 9/11 terrorists to trial in the US.

Great idea dimwits… then if they get the death penalty and are executed on American soil, Jihadists all over the world will want to come here and:

1) Avenge them
2) Build a shrine to them
3) Recruit more Jihadists in the US to cause terrorist acts.

The f*cking idiots. That’s right put more americans at risk!!

I’m really pissed.

73

CJK 11.13.09 at 5:01 pm

This was in an e-mail I received earlier about BO’s/Holder’s decision to bring the 9/11 terrorists to NYC for trial. Kristol is editor of the Weekly Standard. This came from Kristol’s Weekly Standard blog today. He’s relaying the reaction of the sister of one of the 9/11 victims.

“…from Bill Kristol this morning, relaying the reaction of the sister of 9/11 victim Charles Burlingame, the pilot of American Airlines Flight 77:

“Today Attorney General Eric Holder will announce that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and several of his fellow 9/11 co-conspirators will be brought to New York City and tried in federal court. No doubt the Attorney General will invoke the phrase, ‘Swift and certain justice.’ This is a sham. There will be nothing swift and nothing certain about it.

“The trial will be a travesty. The prosecutors at the Southern and Eastern Districts fought over these career-making cases like vultures at a kill. But who will be the vulture? In open court, it will be Khalid Shiek Mohammed who will hold forth, mocking his victims, exulting in the suffering of their families, ridiculing the judge, his lawyers and the American justice system, and worst of all, rallying his jihadi brothers to kill more Americans as the men and women of the US military risk their lives in the mountains of Afghanistan and the sands of Iraq. All, just blocks from where 20,000 body parts were dug out of the rubble of the Twin Towers.

“Remember KSM’s famous opening line when he was grabbed in Rawalpindi? ‘I’ll talk to you guys after I get to New York and see my lawyer.’ Thanks to the Obama admnistration, it looks like he’ll get his wish. And he’ll do his best-with the help of this top-drawer lawyers and much of the media-to make the real defendants at the trial the CIA interrogators-and the American government.

“How will this help achieve what our president claims he wants to achieve-‘restoring respect for America’? Is that what he really wants?”

We’re not really asking people to pray for Obama, that is the irony. The point is to get people to ask you about it, then you tell them what the psalm says. I think even my obot friends will laugh and not get too upset. IT’S A JOKE.

Also, I think Social-Psyche offers a great solution. However, again, I wasn’t trying to derail the ’shop.’ Just stating my concern/opinion in that one comment. Obviously, the PUMA majority rules. Thanks.

83

CJK 11.13.09 at 5:18 pm

goofsmom 11.13.09 at 5:01 pm

Completely agree, goofs. Bringing these scumbags to NYC is a needless and particularly painful insult to everyone who lost loved ones and colleagues in the 9/11 attacks, and an insult to every American. It has been described elsewhere today (can’t remember by whom or where) as being as ridiculous an idea as bringing the Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbor to the U.S. for a civilian trial. These guys are terrorists and war criminals (not common thugs like BO and his cronies) and should be dealt with accordingly.

84

Social-Psyche 11.13.09 at 5:18 pm

BCL in #76:

Yup, I get the “inside” joke.

But… consider the sticker will not have any good effect whatsoever on the many people who won’t get it, for reasons less to do with their pov on Obama than with simply not knowing the psalm, and being in no such position to ask you for an explanation because they’ll see just your vehicle, not you, whether in traffic or in a parking lot.

So a different sticker could deliver the same joke, at Obama’s expense, to far more people.

And as I tried to point out, an added bonus is to get people to think about placing the country first, way ahead of the parties, and not merely echoing the same “Stand Behind Your President” swill we heard during Bush’s 8 years.

Rancho 11.13.09 at 5:22 pm

TAKE ACTION: Tell Your Senators to Vote Against ‘Hyde on Steroids’
Following is part of an email received from NOW . . . .
The Senate may be voting on a “Hyde on steroids” amendment similar to Stupak-Pitts that would prevent millions of women from obtaining insurance coverage for abortion under health care reform. Floor debate begins next week, and senators are being pressured to accept
this outrageous evisceration of Roe v. Wade in order to get reform legislation passed. It is not acceptable to achieve health care reform by pushing women back to the back alleys. The Senate must not
adopt this House-passed amendment that would expand the Hyde Amendment (which prohibits federal funding of abortion, except in cases of rape, incest and threat to a woman’s life). Please tell your
senators Stupak-Pitts is not status quo and it is not okay.

—————————————-
Just a thought . . .Since the HOUSE shot down several amendments that would have made THEM have the same health insurance as what they want to “force feed” down our throats, if the Senate wants to keep the Stupak-Pitts bill intact in the combined bills, does that mean that THEY, THEIR WIVES, and THEIR DAUGHTERS can still get coverage with THEIR government insurance?

Any sleuths out there that like a challenge? How are abortions viewed/covered on their current government insurance plans that THRY are counting on keeping!!!

87

CJK 11.13.09 at 5:25 pm

Social-Psyche 11.13.09 at 5:18 pm

Thanks, Social! Very clearly, rationally stated. I agree. Also, I have to wonder how many people would even bother to look up the Pslam chapter and verse if the sticker/t-shirt, etc. said only ‘pray for Obama’ and the chapter/verse numbers. To those who don’t know the verse, won’t bother to look it up, won’t bother to ask about it and don’t personally know the politics of the person displaying/wearing the sticker/t-shirt, it simply looks like support because typically, people only ‘pray for’ those they support. Your solution still gets my vote, for whatever my 2 cents’ worth matters. Again, however, the PUMA majority obviously rules.

88

CJK 11.13.09 at 5:28 pm

Make that ‘look up the Psalm chapter.’ Good grief…

I wondered about that too, Rancho. Haven’t had a chance to research it. It would seem that with numerous plans available to Congress and the WH via the FEHP program, for which we taxpayers foot the majority of the bill, there must be some among them that have plans that pay for abortion. I’ll try to research it, after I get back from picking up my Rx for Tamiflu. (I’ve just been directly exposed to the damn swine flu.) BBL.

And others, look upthread at the comment that started the discussion on the bumper stickers. #47 There has been so much traffic on the web with people looking up the psalm that someone wrote a piece on it.
Pray for the U.S.A. is perfectly fine, but not for the reasons you keep pushing. Pray for the USA will not make people look up the psalm, but instead they’ll say ‘Amen’ and stop there. Adding the words of the psalm would bring a chuckle. Fine, but it’s overthinking the joke and hard to read. Enough discussion on something that was supposed to be lightweight and fun.

The ACLU must also be held accountable for this travisty of justice, this show trial that will take place in down town NYC.
Eric Holder, O’Burqa and the ACLU have put their personal vendeta aginst the Bush administration ahead of the safety and respect of the citizens of NY as well as the rest of the country.

And by the way, Eric Holder is a racist with a capitol R.. He gave Jerry Jackson, the elected democratic committee person who was a registered poll watcher for the Obama campaign, who stood in his New Black Panther Party fatigues and cap waving a night stick in front of a polling center in No. Philadelphia, a slap on the wrist instead of charging him with voter intimidation. This guy is as big a joke as Obama. He is a danger to America.
I have been a member of the ACLU for sometime and have been all but bullying them to hold this administration accountable and to protect the rights of the US citizens along with the constitution of the US. Many of the people I spoke with at the ACLU didn’t even know about the Voter intimidation case in Philadelphia. They are lock step libtards who will be forever living in the past, ruminating about Bush and Cheney, never realizing that Obama is no better but in fact worse.

If Shiek Mohammed and his buddies are tried in the US, they should be tried as women are in their Shari’ah judicial system. Their testimony should be worth half that of an actual human being. Sentence them for the crime of being water boarded like ALL women are sentenced in Muslim countries for the crime of being raped.
Now that would be poetic justice.

It seemed to be a discussion of Obama Presidency and interests of AA’s now. Not adversarial at all and everyone involved seemed to enjoy the discussion. One of the panelists is a commentator/panelist on Fox that I recognized but don’t know his name. One female panelist said ‘am I the only one here that did not vote for Obama?’, but I didn’t catch her name either. I really was distracted at the time. You’ve got to read this.

FDA, a class II implantable device is a “implantable radiofrequency transponder system for patient identification and health information.”

This link will take you to the Open Congress website. The site is pretty good as a research tool and I have used it often in digging up information that my Washington reps would rather not tell me about.

The item under question here has shown up in a few rumor blogs and in other less reputable sites as yet another diabolical scheme by Obama to enslave the US. Really? Let’s look at the language…

The Obama Health care bill under Class II (Paragraph 1, Section B) specifically includes in its lists of things that must be in registered in the NATIONAL MEDICAL DEVICE REGISTRY: ‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable.”
Then on page 1004 it describes what the term “data” means in paragraph 1, section B:
14 ‘‘(B) In this paragraph, the term ‘data’ refers to in
15formation respecting a device described in paragraph (1),
16 including claims data, patient survey data, standardized
17 analytic files that allow for the pooling and analysis of
18 data from disparate data environments, electronic health
19 records, and any other data deemed appropriate by the
20 Secretary”

Hi FLBarbara! I’m certainly no mechanic, but based on previous problems I’ve had, sounds like your car could have a broken tie rod, or could just need power steering fluid. Hope you’re staying well.
‘Night FLBarbara, goofs and all lovely, wonderful PUMAs everywhere.

FL Barb….ask Zoolander. He learned to turn left in the end!

Dances…the best cure for the cold is Campbell’s Tomato Soup. #1 the best. I also took vitamins and drank tea and kept my neck warm with vapor rub and a wrap and got some sleep, but in one night I was cured, and I’m sure it was the soup foremost. I’m never without some in the house. Drink it from a mug as hot as you can stand it.

Mine was fostered with a lot of big dogs so he has a lot of anxieties about food. I watch all those dog shows and one of them “clicked” for me. I realized that if I served his food and then called him he was too scared to come because to him it looked as if I’d “claimed” the food! So now I call him first, and have him sit and when I serve him the food he realizes it’s his! Maybe you can research some tips online relating to your pup’s puddling problem?

This is appalling news from this morning’s Herald.

Ted Kennedy’s son “warned” the senate candidates running to replace Ted (he means Marth Coakley) not to use abortion as a litmus test can endanger his Dad’s legacy.

Coakley stated she would not vote for the bill (if she were elected) if it contained the amendment barring paying for abortions. (that shows actual courage and is wonderful)

So Kennedy’s reaches from the grave through his son to threaten another woman’s candidacy just as he did to Hillary.

Jeff Jacoby write in today’s Boston Globe:

“Was there ever a president as deeply enamored of himself as Barack Obama?”

“In his speech on the federal takeover of General Motors, Obama likewise found it necessary to use the first-person singular pronoun 34 times. (“Congress’’ he mentioned just once.)”

“At this rate, it won’t be long before the president’s ego is so inflated that it will require a ZIP code of its own.”

Didn’t see Beck’s show, but I bet it was excellent. I think he lets average people have a safe forum to say what is honestly on their minds and hearts.
Well, I’m contacting my senators against the Obamacare bill. One is pro-choice (Specter-D)and the other is pro-life (D-Casey). But they’re both gullible saps.
My Rep, Charles Dent-R, voted against the bill in the House and I sent him a thanks. Dent is pro-choice and fiscally conservative, a great role model for both parties IMO. Why can’t we have more reps like this?

BCL, when I say “puddle”, I mean that she throws up bile. She’s been to the vet several times – he thinks it’s the human version of “acid reflux”. She was severely abused the first 6 months of her life – tied to a tree, starved, etc. – by a man, no less. I got her at 7 months.

I have meds for her and have worked on deconditioning her, but she can’t seem to get over her last 2 problems: my friends / visitors coming to my house or encountering kids when we go to town. She runs & hides under my desk and trembles, or in the case of kids, she hates them. Usually, I can expect a throw up spot a few hours later.

I’m thinking of writing a letter to Cesar Milan, asking for his help, as I have a 2-yr. old grandson, and don’t want her to eat him when he comes to visit.

I know I’m mourning that innocent 12 year old girl I once was who was enthralled by JFK. Now I view Kennedy men as inbred pathologic misogynists whose opinions and pronouncements should always be discounted.

Now I’m mourning the destruction of liberal values. Who hijacked them?

This administration has shattered all of my views about government. When Ted Kennedy came out for Obama, that was the final straw for me. I think it was about legacy and not about any kind of principaled policy. Ted saw that he could control this young fool by manipulation O’s ego and ambition. He bought him using power as the carrot.

Capuano is running against Martha Coakley and has been chosen by the Kennedy’s as his successor. His whole speil is that Ted would have wanted this or Ted would have wanted that. No principles no policies just wet eyed emotion. It is disgusting.

Coakley is not perfect – no one is – but she came out against the anti-choice amendment in health care.

MamaPuma here are just three of the many good reasons to make sure Martha Coakley gets elect.

She will defend abortion right to be covered in the HC bill.
She is a intellectual, astute and autonomous women.
She is not supported by Nancy Peloser..

208

Zee 11.14.09 at 10:52 am

Mamapuma, I hate that word “warned” used by Ted’s son. It sounds like a threat. But Martha is in the lead, so we can expect worse to be thrown at her.

Martha does have the courage of her convictions and flatly states what she will fight for, for instance, she explicitly states she will fight DOMA. The other candidates, in the last debate, were all rivaling Zerobama in their use of “I, I, I, I….” Must be a male thing. Martha spoke on the issues. They all spoke about themselves.

sistermoon, it’s hard to keep up with the Palin attacks these days, but over at Tn Guerilla Women they’re spotlighting an appalling clip from MSNBC where they put up several “sexy” pictures of her, including the one where they photoshopped her head onto a bikini body. The anchor blowhard was trying to get the woman correspondent to agree that Palin was “hot” and she finally managed to say that “being attractive never hurts” and went on to say the reason Americans most responded to Palin was because she’s “real.”

If Martha Coakley is in the lead and she is who the people of Mass. want to represent them in the Senate, why would Peloser believe she has the political power to change their opinion and decision?
I believe the Peloser will have about as much affect in the Mass. Senate race as Obama did in New Jersey.

TerryDo, I could be wrong, but I thought HP was talking about the supposed futility of sending Coakley to the Senate because she will be powerless once there. Martha strikes me as a direct and no-nonsense woman, tho. She may not make an easy target. I don’t think she’ll be easy to silence, and she’s not going to lead with her chin, so when she does disagree with the WH cabal, she’s going to root it squarely on the issue at hand. She’s not the “mix it up” with the egos and personalities type…so the only way they have to answer her is by addressing the issue.

We need a scoreboard to count down the number of women Senators we need to achieve parity. And then the actual game can finally begin!
