That’s Violet Sox’s line, and it’s a good one. So, can someone please answer this question: If the Democrats won’t stand up for women, why should women stand up for the Democrats?
The Stupak Amendment:
Here’s the Roll Call on the vote. Sixty four Democrats voted for it. The obama Democratic party has now proven itself to be so profoundly anti-woman that I’m beginning to think the jackass wasn’t just talking about Hillary when he used 99 Problems But a Bitch Aint One as his campaign song.
In terms of the bill itself, as someone whose opinion I respect greatly put it, “Big fat government is here to stay and from here on in they will make your most intimate decisions-to the tune of 20% of your pretax income!”
Dakinkat wants a new Woman’s Party. Coming at it from a slightly different angle, Uppity says: “Prepare to support a whole lot of unwanted babies with your tax dollars!” I’m not sure how realistic that is since not many abortions were being paid for by insurance anyway. Public insurance (Medicare, Medicaid) has NEVER covered abortions, so the women poor enough to NEED help paying for abortion services weren’t getting it to begin with. Anyway, the point isn’t really about counting how many more or fewer abortions there may be under this or that regulation. The point is
WHY THE HELL DO AMERICAN WOMEN NOT HAVE A CRITICAL MASS OF POWER IN WASHINGTON D.C. TO PROTECT EVEN BASIC FREEDOMS???
How freaking pathetic are we as a voting bloc for christ’s sake?

Someone downstairs asked how many women in congress voted for the Stupak Amendment.
the answer is, out of 240 YES votes for Stupak, 221 Men voted in favor of limiting women’s reproductive privacy, along with 19 women who also voted in favor.
There are 74 women in the House. 19 of them voted against women’s freedom.
Do the Math:
25% of the women voted against women’s freedom.
61% of the men voted against women’s freedom.
Every time, every place, every where: Women stand up for Women and Men DO NOT.
this is NOT about women being their own worst enemies. This is about men being women’s enemies.
CJK 11.08.09 at 2:31 pm
Hi, Murphy. Respectfully, if 25 percent of the women we elect to Congress are going to vote against women’s freedom, how can we realistically say ‘women stand up for women every time, every place, every where’? and how can we realistically support every woman candidate without first thoroughly researching her stand on the issues of vital importance to women? I don’t ever say or believe that women are ‘their own worst enemies,’ and will never say it. But, I don’t necessarily believe all men are women’s enemies. I think what happened yesterday is about our entire current government being women’s worst enemies, and, in fact, being all Americans’ worst enemies. I’ll mail my contribution via snail mail tomorrow. Thanks for all you continue to do, Murphy! I wish you’d run for Congress!

The someone was me, Murphy
I do agree . . . because their numbers DO make a statement
“this is NOT about women being their own worst enemies. This is about men being women’s enemies.”
BUT
the few women reps. we have need to be held accountable too. They have the added burden of NOT giving in to the boys club, and representing all women. I can’t understand WHY they wouldn’t unless for personal religious convictions? It dumbfounds me, like the 15 women who voted to cosponsor Arnold Palmer’s Congressional medal but not Alice Paul’s!
(I’m just curious why

P.S. I have male offspring who believe completely in women’s freedom (including reproductive decisions), as well as several former male partners who believe the same. I’ve carefully educated every one of them. Current partner is, unfortunately, still in learning mode.

Thanks to LeeinUSA for the list of all House members who voted for the bill last night. I’m printing the list, carrying it with me wherever I go, and committing myself to work against their re-election. I’m cross checking to confirm whether those who voted for the ‘Stupid’ Amendment are the same as those who voted for the bill (presumably, it’s the same list). For me, this is not negotiable. Every Representative who voted for this bill/this amendment is deliberately, wrongheadedly voting against the best interests of women and all Americans in order to sycophantically serve the Fraud occupying the WH to try to ensure their political survival. In fact, they have just ensured their certain political demise.

Snips from Obama letter about History making HC bill.
In one breathe he says
“Each “yes” vote was a brave stand, backed up by countless hours of knocking on doors, outreach in town halls and town squares, millions of signatures, and hundreds of thousands of calls.
The Democratic Party and Organizing for America have built a massive neighborhood-by-neighborhood operation to bring people’s voices to Congress.
Please donate $5 or whatever you can afford so we can finish this fight”
In the next he says.
“Even after last year’s election, many insider lobbyists and partisan operatives really thought that the old formula of scare tactics, D.C. back-scratching and special-interest money would still be enough to block any idea they didn’t like.
Please donate to OFA’s
Let’s keep making history,
President Barack Obama”
So……
Aren’t the DNC and OFA “insider lobbyists”? Are the DNC and OFA not “partisan operatives”?
If I am donating money to OFA to ensure the HC bill is passed would it not be considered
“back-scratching and special-interest money”?
HYPOCRITE.

Hi Murphy/admin (?) How then does one explain Pelosi’s behavior? After her performance as House Speaker this year, I could never say she is waaay more likely to stand up for women. She has sold out women (including HRC) at every opportunity, most notably in getting the health bill passed by sacrificing women’s freedom of choice. During my activist days, I personally experienced women backstabbing women quite frequently. Though times have perhaps changed this somewhat, I cannot support a candidate exclusively on the basis of gender. I have to research and understand her core values, to the extent possible.

Great thread Murphy,
I just have one question… where is the Women Voting Bloc and how does one sign up?
I read all the links posted and IMHO before we try to become a new party, we need to try and become a recognized voting bloc, which we are not.
We were quitely stipped of our freedoms last night and I still see women debating today about whose fault it was. All I can say is it is ours for not being able to be a cohesive voting group. (Not pumas, just speaking in generalities and observations)
Like Rancho, I am feeling sick to my stomach and helpless and the way political parties manipulate the womens vote with their promises of how they represent us. They don’t and until we divorce our selves from these parties and their talking point we will continue to be… well, less than’s.
Okay I’m ranting and will stop

I checked the list posted by LeeinUSA early this morning against the Blue Dog Dem list posted by NikkisMom yesterday, and, presuming both lists are accurate, it appears that the following 28 Blue Dog Dems voted for Pelosi’s hc bill. (Haven’t yet cross checked with the list of those voting for the ‘Stupid’ Amendment. But, to me, voting for the bill with the amendment amounts to the same thing as voting for the amendment.) Please feel free to offer corrections as needed if you have different info re votes of House members from your locale. Thanks.

Hi, goofs! Yes, I agree! I believe the ‘Women’s Voting Bloc’ is right here at PUMA PAC. I also believe that we must divorce ourselves from slavish allegiance to any current political party. I’ve often said we need a new woman’s party, and have often been shot down for saying so (same old hackneyed argument — the country can’t support a third party; it just splits the vote). We’ve just seen that this current government (of all existing parties) does not support women in any way. We need our own party, plain and simple. Who better than PUMA PAC, with Murphy’s leadership, to get it going?

But if we research a woman candidate and know upfront that she won’t support women’s issues (but will be as much of a sell out as Pelosi, for example), why vote her into office to start with? She’ll just become one of the 25 percent who will vote against women’s freedom. We will have gained nothing. In general, however, I agree that we should always first consider voting for the woman candidate. But, if she doesn’t support women’s freedom/rights, why vote for her, and not consider a male candidate with a better track record of supporting women’s freedom/rights?

I didn’t mean to imply you were advocating a third party, goofs. Sorry if that’s how it came across. But, with only two major parties currently in existence, what are women to do if not form their own party? How can women become a cohesive voting bloc without their own party to act as a unifier, a means for raising necessary funds and backing candidates who unequivocally support women’s freedoms/rights?
CJK 11.08.09 at 3:45 pm

honora 11.08.09 at 3:54 pm
I know that it is frustrating to women when the women that they support turn around and do not support women. I think we must try not to hold the women representatives to a higher standard than we do the men representatives. I understand wanting to, but we must remember that these women are forced to play in a male arena (even Pelosi). If we got to the 30% level then these women would be able to ‘act like women’ without being marginalized. We need to focus on getting more women and we need to act electorally like a block to support women.
goofsmom 11.08.09 at 3:55 pm
CJK,
There are many voting blocs that are not political parties. They are coallition of voters, some are race based, some are lifestyle based, etc. So why can’t there be one that is gender based. They contribute to individual politicians and throw their voting bloc support behind them.
Just thoughts…
LJSNAustin 11.08.09 at 4:20 pm
CJK #17, it’s all about getting equal representation. Until we have that, to me, nothing else matters. If it’s between a woman who will not support womens’ rights and a man who will (hmmmm…), at least with the woman we will get closer to having equal seating at the table. With a critical mass of women in public office, THEN we can talk about issues. Just my two cents. I’m sticking to it.

One woman alone, or with a few other women beside her, will always be outnumbered, outmanueverable — if she champions women’s issues those issues will ALWAYS be vulnerable to a gang like the blue dogs. You can make fun of Nancy Pelosi’s face all day long. It does not change the fact that she is ardently pro-reproductive-freedom. She did NOT vote for the Sestak Amendment. She fought bitterly to kill it, but she LOST. Why? Because they’re aren’t enough WOMEN IN CONGRESS to stand beside her. Why aren’t there enough women in congress to strengthen and help keep Nancy Pelosi honest and working for women?
BECAUSE WE DON’T VOTE FOR THEM!!! If Pelosi had had 20 or so more women in the House to help her kill Sestak, we would not have LOST yesterday.
We lose every time because we get disunited, distracted, embarrassed, and disheartened.

FLBarbara 11.08.09 at 5:04 pm
While it is frustrating to feel that women WE elected have not supported “US” Truth is there’ re many women today who feel the women they elected did indeed support them.
A woman who believes government should pay for abortions for women will feel betrayed but the woman who is against that she is feeling pretty good today.
The problem remains abortion is a tool used to divide women and their voting as a majority bloc IMHO
We want the women we elected to be held accountable for voting for and somewhere else there is another group of women discussing the accountability of those women who voted against it.
So basically all of us are talking about voting women OUT of office for betraying us.
And the Men well they just sit there laughing their asses off and crap no one is talking about being betrayed by them.

Different strategies are not mutually exclusive. If you can’t grasp the concept behind the 30% solution and are too politically pure to vote for any women versus voting for only idealogically pure women, then vote for those women. If you support the concept of gaining a larger female voting bloc in Congress and other governing bodies, then look for the long term goal and vote female. Use common sense and do what makes sense to you. Do not let someone who says you must do it this way or you can’t do it another way distract you from the long term goal. A female voting bloc will be just as effective at wielding power as a female party. The point is to push women forward and give them power and numbers. There is not only one way to achieve this, but there are myriad distractions along the way that keeps it from ever happening.

It continues to be the abortion issue
The Great wall that divides us.
We are the majority and we agree as a majority on all the “basic isses” that effect us wether we are in the home or in the office.
Pay, violence,etc.
But we become the minority because we can’t agree on the abortion issue.
While it is an important issue, we have to find a way to not have it be the Great wall the divides.

martha coakley will be not halfway through her first term as senator (the first woman senator from MA, if she wins) when obama loses office in 2012. if he loses reelection in 2012 he is OUT for good. House health care bill has nowhere to go in Senate
WASHINGTON – The glow from a health care triumph faded quickly for President Barack Obama on Sunday as Democrats realized the bill they fought so hard to pass in the House has nowhere to go in the Senate.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091108/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul
Silence Dogood 11.08.09 at 7:11 pm
This bill is not about care but about government control. It must be defeated in the senate, otherwise we are another step closer to full blown socialism. There is no choice in this bill.
Both the AMA, who only rep 17% or doctors, and the AARP have soldout support for cash. AARP stands to make billions from the more expensive medi-gap insurance.
Neither represents the people.

From prpl’s link:
The problem is that the Senate won’t run with it. The government health insurance plan included in the House bill is unacceptable to a few Democratic moderates who hold the balance of power in the Senate.
If a government plan is part of the deal, “as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote,” said Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Connecticut independent whose vote Democrats need to overcome GOP filibusters.
“The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said dismissively.

By defusing the abortion issue — at least for now — the House may have helped the long-term prospects for the bill. Catholic bishops also eager to expand society’s safety net may yet endorse the final legislation.

Speaking of female horses, a 5 year old filly/mare horse named Zenyatta won the biggest race in horse racing yesterday, the Breeder’s Cup Classic against the best male horses in the world. She raced against the boys for the first time in her career after winning 13 of 13 races before that. She came into the paddock prancing and pawing the ground. At first I thought there was someting wrong with her leg, but I guess this is common behavior for her. She came out on the track still prancing and the crowd loved it. She balked going into the gate and was foaming at the mouth she was so fired up. After a long delay at the gates, they were opened and she looked like she was not going to run. She was just giving the boys a head start. Halfway around the track she was 12 lengths behind the rest of the pack. I thought she had tired herself out so much she was done. But, she slowly crept up on the pack until she was in the middle, then her jockey took her to the outside and she picked the leaders off one by one and won the race by a full length. The crowd when wild. She pawed the ground in the winners circle until they took her away to hose her down. She’s been known to bump male horses so hard in races that she knocks them 3 horses over. She’s now up for horse of the year against the other super female horse, Rachel Alexandre.

Again, Murphy, I agree with Persephone – we need to find out exactly what the Stupak amendment will mean if it survives. My guess is that it will be removed at some point but if it isn’t we need to worry. Some discussion I heard last night suggested that even if a woman paid for her premiums herself she would not be able to get an abortion in any health plan that is part of the government health exchange. I believe that eventually all plans will be part of the health exchange (at least that is BO’s long term single payer plan).

All plans will quickly become part of the exchange-it’s absolutely the only way to do it and that’s how they did it here in MA.
We will still have so-called “private” plans but they will be regulated and administered by the government.
Which means the government gets to decide what the “rulz” will be!
And people thought this was a swell idea!
Pro choice doctors have been able to get insurance companies to cover termination procedures in many cases by classifying them as “medically necessary.”
That’s the kind of language we’ll be hearing going into the Senate battle.
Even if the dems try and soften Stupak/Pitts
(hereinafter referred to as Stupid-Ass)by including some exceptions, it will be the government deciding what is “medically necessary??”
My god how dare they. It is just none of their goddamned business and grown women should not be having their reproductive choices scrutinized in this century!

question for my Senator- John Kerry.
Right now around 20 states provide supplemental funding so that
abortions are covered for Medicaid recipients.
(VT, CA..don’t have complete list, will try and find it..)
Under Stupid-Ass, what happens to those states?
Some of those states have been court ordered to pay for abortions for low income women, on the legal premise that Hyde discriminates against poor women.
Are those court orders now null and void under the “new and improved” HC plan??
persephone 11.08.09 at 9:21 pm
Information re: states that currently fund abortions, either voluntarily or by court order:
http://www.guttmacher.org/statecenter/spibs/spib_SFAM.pdf
excerpt:
HIGHLIGHTS:
32 states and the District of Columbia follow the federal standard and provide abortions in cases of life endangerment, rape and incest.
3 of these states also provide state funds for abortions in cases of fetal abnormality.
3 of these states also provide state funds for abortions that are necessary to prevent grave, long-lasting damage to the woman’s physical health.
1 state provides abortions only in cases of life endangerment, in apparent violation of the federal standard.
17 states use state funds to provide all or most medically necessary abortions.
4 of these states provide such funds voluntarily.
13 of these states do so pursuant to a court order.

this article in Salon from last week is good:
“1. Abortion is legal medical care. “Abortion is a legal right, and it takes medical care to exercise that right,” says Judy Waxman, vice-president of health and reproductive rights at the National Women’s Law Center. (For their healthcare reform campaign, click here.) The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists also chimes in here (PDF).
2. Abortion is common, mainstream medical care. It is one of the most common surgical procedures in America.
3. Abortion is already broadly covered. Between 50 and 85 percent of women who have private insurance, including employer-sponsored plans, have coverage for abortion care.
4. Covering abortion does not raise the abortion rate. As Gloria Feldt points out, “Countries like France, Germany and the Netherlands routinely cover abortion in their national health plans, and have some of the lowest abortion rates in the world.”
it goes on.

Women Are Overtaking Men in the U.S.?
The United States may have officially entered the age of woman.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this fall, for the first time in U.S. history, women have surpassed men and now make up more than 50 percent of the nation’s workforce. In 1967, by comparison, they accounted for just one-third of all workers.
http://www.sphere.com/2009/11/06/women-are-overtaking-men-in-the-u-s/
• Double the number of single women are now purchasing homes in America than there are single men.
• Four out of every 10 women are are now their family’s primary breadwinner, a sharp increase from past decades.
• The New Hampshire State Legislature is now made up of a majority of women, a first for a legislative body in the U.S., and the number of women in government continues to edge up nationwide.
• Women now account for 30 percent of math Ph.D.s, up from just 5 percent in the 1960s.
• On average, women read nine books every year. Men only read four, and women account for 80 percent of the U.S. fiction market.
• The World Bank recently estimated that the global earning power of women will reach an estimated $18 trillion by the year 2014, up $5 trillion today.
Interesting article to feel a bit encouraged about . . .

And, yes I am all over the place…. With the high employment rate and the way things are right now…. Well, in my business alot is going on…. In the last month I have had to file (myself) 6 evictions and 2 foreclosures…..
This has never happend in the 20 + years I have been a Real Estate Investor…. Thank God I went to Law School and specialized in Real Property Law and Contracts…. Phew!!!!!!!! The $$$ that I invested in myself has saved me $$$$$$$$$$$$$…..
But, I am not complaining…. it is part of the business….
tomorrow I will be shampooing carpets and washing windows to have a home I have ready to show by tuesday…. that’s ok…. I love what I do… I guess in a twisted way!…
Oh, but, I have to tell you there are many, many months where I do nothing…. But, right now… I am very busy…..
I am so grateful for the fact that I own everything that I have…..
No, mortgage or anything… Just taxes at the end of the year….
After-all, what I do has allowed me to retire at 35years old…. Now, at 47 I am still plugging away…..

Let me see if I can’t get it changed… Want to see you both so much…
Plus Casper having so much of a problem with her install is making me a bit wary…

Rancho…. I am the most generous landlady you have ever met….
But, when the tenant tells me they cannot afford the place anymore… I really do try to work with them to create the best outcome for both of us… Unfortunately, some people just don’t care that a Eviction will be on their credit report and application where ever they move or rent… I do my best to explain that to them…. But, I can do only so much…. In fact, a place that I just rented with a one year lease…. the woman that applied for the place passed all of the application process and then she called me later that night after I had already called her to tell her the place is yours if you still want it… she said I need to be upfront and honest with you.. I said ok… she said “I am gay and I have my wife of 5 years with me and 4 cats”… I said wonderful!… are the cats spayed/neutered? she said yes! I said Thank You…. she paused… “so, that’s ok with you?” Oh, YA! the cats are spayed I replied… I am a huge supporter of animals and S/N…. So, I said do you still want the place… She said YES!!! In fact, she is moving from Buena Park near Knotts Berry Farm.. And, I took care of her cats while she could move in….
Tell, me how many landlady/landlord would do that????? I will tell, you NONE!!!!!!!

I made it this far thru the thread, but I can’t hold my tongue on this:
“If he had a female run against him, I would have to think hard about voting against him unless the woman was really really good.”
He’s had TWO progressive women challenge him in two different primary runs. He refused to debate either one, even tho he WHINED his ass off about being shut out of debates himself. He’s a PIG. On his third wife. This time a trophy child bride with no brain….if you doubt that, she appeared with the Breatharians at some stupidass New Age conference. Breatharians are nutcase predator New Age cultists who preach that you don’t need food or water, only air and sun.
I could go on. I met the jerk, and recognized immediately what the short-man-syndrome narcissist was all about, and researched him. Suffice it to say, it’s a waste of time to worship him…it was even a waste of time to have researched all the crap he’s really about before he latched onto this Cult Hero bs because even if he were sincere, which he’s not, he’s forever marginalized and a good thing he is, too.

Zee 11.09.09 at 12:28 am
I just want to add that before my Kucinich rant, all my other thoughts were kudos, kudos, brava, brava, ditto, ditto. It’s good to see some long lost PUMAs here, and brava-ditto-kudos to dances and Murphy! Vote for women. Period. Alice Paul’s calling was “votes for women.” Ours is “VOTE for women.”
I’m just beside myself tonight. Besides my fury over the Stupid Amendment, I went to a memorial for an icon in our community tonight. All I wanted to do was sit with friends and talk about him, and art, and memories and tributes, but after the memorial I couldn’t find my friend’s house because construction of a hotel, unbeknownst to me, had completely altered the landscape and I couldn’t find the darn place.
So then I just came home and saw the most infuriating thing on CNN, but that’s another post…
Zee 11.09.09 at 12:28 am
Well, it’s been a night, goofs….
Zee 11.09.09 at 12:35 am
Hmmm…not sure what a U-verse is? Are Goofs, Ranch and Casper meeting in real life? Whatever, have fun! It sounds like fun! More PUMA meet-ups!
CJK 11.09.09 at 12:43 am
Just a random thought: Wonder what would happen if all PUMAs went out on the same day and changed their voter registration to ‘independent.’ Also, wonder what would happen if, before changing their registration to ‘independent,’ all those PUMAs tore up their voter registration cards and sent those torn up registration cards in big bundles to the HQs of the two major parties with a cover letter saying (quoting Murphy) ‘If the D’s (or R’s) won’t stand up for women, why should women stand up for the D’s (or R’s)?’ Just wonderin’… ‘Night lovely, wonderful PUMAs everywhere.
Zee 11.09.09 at 12:48 am
OK…if PUMAs are not already infuriated enough with how much Islam sux, patriarchy sux and the media suck? I come home tonight and my housemate has the news on. Fine. I normally spare myself the stress, but hey.
How many people remember the DC sniper? I remember because I have family there, and was terrified until he was caught. Well, I never really followed the story, outside the fact he was military, like Timothy McVeigh.
Well, hello. He was Islamic. And tonight CNN told the rest of the story, because he’s two days away from execution.
Only here is how they told it. Take your stress meds now. “Meet the woman who says she is the reason WHY this happened.”
I kid you the fuck not.
Then after the break we get the interview with the ex-wife. She most definitely did NOT say she was the “reason” why this shit shot 10 people dead. CNN said that. Because, of course, if a man terrorizes a city and murders a lot of people, the REASON has to be a WOMAN.
What his ex-wife said was that after the Iraq war her husband was a broken man and took it out on her, in every way. She told him she was leaving. He said she would not be raising their kids without him and that she was now the “enemy” and they were at war and he’d kill her.
She went into hiding with the kids. And this is supposedly why he was killing all these other people. Even tho he’d told her before he could hold an entire city hostage and they’d think it would be a group of terrorists but it would be only him.
But it’s all her fault. CNN says so.
goofsmom 11.09.09 at 12:52 am
WTF….
He was a broken man after the war… and it’s her fault… give me a fricken break…

Zee 11.09.09 at 12:53 am
CJK, I love HP, but there is no way in hell I’m ceding the Democratic Party to the Obots.
The idea is to form a voting bloc and reclaim BOTH parties.
Primaries are the key, and we need to run in primaries, support primary challengers and vote in primaries.
It’s the DEMS who will be voting to send Martha Coakley to Senate to SPITE the Kennedys and Obots. She stood by Hillary to the end.
My dachshund barks like hell at the UPS Truck and thinks he’s defending the home from a monster, but it’s just a vehicle. Same with the parties. They’re just VEHICLES. They don’t have the ability to be the enemy. We just have to be the ones driving them.
Zee 11.09.09 at 12:55 am

I could not believe it. I’m grateful they interviewed the ex-wife, but the framing of the story is inexcusable.

Zee 11.09.09 at 1:09 am
snowtiger, it’s way more work than most of us would be able to do. I’ve outlined how it’s done. Scarborough used to give seminars on this…it’s a concerted effort from school boards on up. He used to fly back to Florida from DC in order not to miss a single school board meeting.
But it’s no more work, in fact less, than starting a “new” party from scratch. No getting around it.
And look at the women who ran against Kucinich. I railed about that on every online site and not one other person was interested in assailing the media to shame Kucinich into even one debate, despite the fact he whined incessantly about being shut out of debate himself, so it was a natural for a story.
It’s all about narrative and grassroots. A “new” party isn’t going to get either. But if women become the new narrative group to watch…the parties won’t be able to shut them down as easily as they have in the past.
Zee 11.09.09 at 1:12 am

I was just watching the vid… Jane Doe sounds so strong and it is wonderful that there is so much community involvement in solving the case and bringing these thugs to justice.
The Sgt involved seems very, very support of her also. What a tough job to do for 19+ years. Being a woman and seeing this happen to women and girls every day. I know I would never be able to do her job.
Puma-SF 11.09.09 at 2:22 am
I am so thankful that she is there. I think having a woman makes it easier for Jane Doe. But you’re right it must be horrific for her. They are both incredibly strong women. I”m not hearing good things about the Rape Crisis Center, though. I think I’ll find out what’s going on.

“The House bill makes a mockery of President Barack Obama’s promise that those who currently have health insurance they’re satisfied with will not be forced to change. By setting up a government panel to mandate coverage levels, it will strip employees and employers of the right to negotiate their plans that suit their own needs. It also mandates that employers cover 72.5 percent of employee insurance or pay an 8 percent fine. Many employers will find the fine less expensive than the mandated policies and dump their employees into government sponsored plans.
It returns an HMO-style management system for determining what procedures and treatments are covered, what fees are paid and who can provide care. Americans have unpleasant memories of how such a system worked in the 1980s, and have no reason to think government can execute it any better.
The bill reaches well beyond the stated goals of providing everyone access to affordable health care and controlling the soaring costs of insurance. It diverts billions of dollars into ill-defined community health programs that are bound to become a major pay-off to Democratic interests. It also contains a series of gratuitous racial preference requirements.”

Berlin Wall blunder
World leaders past and present will be in Berlin today for the 20th an niversary of the fall of communist repression’s most visible symbol: the 112-mile concrete wall that split the city for more than a quarter-century.
Conspicuously absent: the president of the United States, Barack Obama.

It’s pathetic that Obama won’t be there — and telling, as well.

#213 – persephone,
It doesn’t seem to matter how many articles are written about how bad this bill will be for us, or how many people call & fax their congresscritters, or how many people march on Washington – they just keep moving on this monstrosity.
Even after hearing Lieberman & others calling it “DOA” in the Senate, after Saturday’s passage, I’m not so sure.
More people need to understand this is a bad bill, but how do we get that message out to them? The media is helping these losers. Maybe we need to prowl the media to help them understand *WHY* they’re losing so much viewership and $$$. They’re accomplices in this whole debacle.

9/11 Cleric calls Ft. Hood soldier a Hero:
http://www.verumserum.com/?p=10066
excerpt:
Nidal opened fire on soldiers who were on their way to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. How can there be any dispute about the virtue of what he has done? In fact the only way a Muslim could Islamically justify serving as a soldier in the US army is if his intention is to follow the footsteps of men like Nidal.

Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda
U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan tried to make contact with people linked to al Qaeda. It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

Iran accuses 3 detained Americans of espionage
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091109/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_iran_us_hikers
TEHRAN, Iran – A senior Iranian prosecutor accused three Americans detained on the border with Iraq of espionage on Monday, the first signal that Tehran intends to put them on trial.
The move could set up the Americans — who relatives say were hiking and strayed across the border from Iraq — as potential bargaining chips in Iran’s standoff with the West. The announcement came as Washington and Tehran are maneuvering over a deadlock in negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called for the release of the three. “We believe strongly that there is no evidence to support any charge whatsoever,” she told reporters in Berlin. “And we would renew our request on behalf of these three young people and their families that the Iranian government exercise compassion and release them, so they can return home.”

He has shown his international priority… and his personal ones..bowing to the ignorant uneducated King of Saudi Arabia..Citing as is always his way with nothing but generalites of banal and inane content..
the many contributions of Muslims in this country? Has he or anyone else bothered to name one? No. Why? because somehow all those so called devout Muslims either are afraid of the jihadists or there devoteness ends up like this no count Major in the Army..who should have been kicked out of the Army as soon as the Army over 6 months prior to his murderous jihadst rampage saw and heard of his antiAmerican rantings…
Sen Liebermann is the only person who noted that this should be looked at and investigated as an internal jihadist terroist act and he will call hearings to follow up.
Too bad this no count Major is still on this earth…no wife..for which he said he wanted and now poor thing..
no 60 virgins waiting for him as a martyr..I said this guy is a looser on every front below and above. He should prosecuted as a traitor for that is what he is.
Going to a Muslim country..Egypt to make his first

I could go on. I met the jerk, and recognized immediately what the short-man-syndrome narcissist was all about, and researched him. Suffice it to say, it’s a waste of time to worship him…it was even a waste of time to have researched all the crap he’s really about before he latched onto this Cult Hero bs because even if he were sincere, which he’s not, he’s forever marginalized and a good thing he is, too.
***************************************
If you knew me you would know I don’t worship ANYBODY. All I said is that he agrees with my positions on things. You got a problem with the guy, you take it up with him. Stop coming on this blog and ranting at us. Grow up!

The photo I saw was a full length one that showed them from head to toe, but it was from behind Pelosi just like this one is.

i.e. memory…their devotedness…
..no 60 plus virgins waiting for him as a martyr..I say this guy is a loser …on every front..
…delete last phrase..
Moreover..the Army will now attempt to cover up and/or dissemble their severe errors in not getting rid of this jihadist fanatic…based on what they had on him…
The so called devote Muslims seek to devour anyone who dares to reject their perversions….of thought and action…That is their contribution on this earth. ..in this 21st century.
And for the record. Sharia law was designed by Saudi Arabians well after Mohammed in an attempt (a successful one) to control other Muslim tribes…something no one except Muslims who hate Saudi Arabi and its family of Kings.. might have the courage to tell you..Who might that be?
Iraquis…who fought against Sadaam years ago and lost family members to Saddam and came to this country years ago…Talk with some of them..if you wish..very interesting indeed
What some of them think of the Saudi King and his family…they think he and that family are in fact behind the jihadsts….and that is not a hard idea to take in…

BOSTON — U.S. Senate candidate Martha Coakley says she wouldn’t have voted for the health care bill that passed the House over the weekend because of an amendment restricting abortion funding.
Rep. Michael Capuano, another Democrat vying to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, voted against the so-called Stupak-Pitts Amendment but in favor of the overall health care bill that narrowly passed the House late Saturday.
The amendment would prohibit abortion coverage for any health insurance product subsidized in any way by the federal government.

Capuano is a bit of a hog:

so pereshone, i would assume that if an insurance company is NOT subsidised by the government plan, they can cover abortions, would that be correct?
I read someone’s twitter, they had it right

i believe the *Stupid Pricks* amendment applies to all insurance companies that are part of the “exchange”
which, they all will.
further cause for concern. states that now supplement federal medicaid funding and pay for abortions will have to start all over (possibly in court)and call it something else.
still trying to get answers about this.

Everyone should watch “V” tomorrow. Last Week they showed the Evil Space lizards who brought Hope&Change had a Universal Health Care plan and a youth organzation for gullible punks.
Will this week we find out they are also antichoice?

I am beginingg to feel sorry for Hillary as she is out there on her own shoveling shit against the tide.
It is timee for her to tell OBUMA to go fuck his sorry self!!
Get off the sinking, stinking ship Hillary!! You, I and all women have to give up on these sexist pigs, they hate us.
They hate you! brush em off and get the hell away from them, NOW!
——–
As much as I worry about Hillary’s safety out there in dangerous world, I love the fact that she is so courageous. She has the guts and brains to keep on keeping on no matter what dirt clods are tossed at her. She never gives up, she always speaks up for us and does us women proud. As long as she stays safe, I want to see her out front of the parade, with smarts, integrity and strength.
Go Hillary Clinton, go!!!!!!
We love you.

While this article is about Owens abandonment of his key promises, it also mentions some of the things that are in the healthcare bill. No wonder they wanted to push this through so quickly on a Sat. nite.

–excerpt–
The House Health reform bill contains sections that cut Medicare benefits, tax existing health care benefits, and increases taxes on the middle class, yet Mr. Owens stated today that he will now vote in favor of those things contrary to what he had promised the voters of NY’s 23rd Congressional District that he would vote against.
…snip….HR 3962 contains potentially hundreds of billions of dollars in planned cuts to Medicare,…
…snip….HR 3962 also includes a range of various taxes on middle-class families as well as language to repeal tax relief already in place. ..
…snip…HR 3962 now also contains language that allows illegal immigrants to be covered under the legislation.
The Associated Press said this morning that: “House leaders said that, in keeping with the Hispanic Caucus’ demands, there was not likely to be any prohibition added to the House bill against illegal immigrants shopping in the exchange.” link –> http://www.gouverneurtimes.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7590:house-dems-push-for-votes-on-health-bill-&catid=54:worldnational-news&Itemid=153
