SF Puma, who helped organize today’s Richmond Peace Rally, will be HERE with other Bay Area Pumas starting at 10:30am Pacific time. She will be handing out the above flyer (made by dances) to encourage people to join us in our fight against gender violence (I think there may be forms of violence OTHER than gendered violence but I can’t think of any right now.) When Dances has a chance she will upload this flyer, along with another one she made, to the ACTION CENTER. You can download it from here for now, and from there later. How about a Saturday Flyer Day? It’s a beautiful day for it.

iPuma will be on hand with her iPhone, sending in pictures from the event as often as possible. I love this pic from over at SF Puma’s place. Aren’t these young women glorious?
Scroll around over at Puma Eyes — there are MANY resources and links to information about the Richmond Gang Rape.
UPDATE: Here are some photos from today’s rally, sent in by iPuma. Hopefully SF Puma will have a chance to check in and tell us her first-hand account. If not, check out her excellent blog regularly.

Repost
I am standing on a pier in NYC looking at the USS New York a beautiful ship made of the steel from the world trade center by the city of New Orleans.
(((Thank You)))
The towers brought down by hatred a ship born up by love.
As we mourn the lives lost among the steel, celebrate the heroes who once walked among us, let us also remember that today in Ft Hood Texas there are more families gathering to do the same, and until we reconize that those who seek to destroy us for no other reason than a prophet some 4,000 years ago declared jihad on those who stand along side of me and those who stand in Texas we will continue to gather and we will continue to mourn.
Terrorists did this. Hatred did this. Islam did this.
Nineteen jihadists did this.
And the same hatred, religion and jihad terrorist murdered again in Texas.
PS Hillary is here.

Mornin’ PUMAs – anyone else notice also that the fraud is not making a photo op appearance in NY for the commissioning of the USS New York – made of steel from 9/11?? Also, he made a ’secret’ trip to Walter Reed Hospital right after the killings at Ft Hood in Texas but no photos – he visited patients and awarded 2 purple hearts – shouldn’t that be photoworthy? (the Purple Heart awards)- this narcississtic arrogant POS without photos – what the hell is up with that? Can we impeach this fraudulent POS yet? Please? before we are no longer the USA???
I hope there are some news organizations (hah!!) that will deem it important to cover the Richmond event but will not hold my breath – after all, it’s only about women and, we’re not considered important in this frat boy era happening right now…………………

While the bill will slash Medicare funding, it will also direct billions of dollars to numerous inner-city social work and diversity programs with vague standards of accountability.

I can not express my rage and horror in words how I feel about the callousness and disinterest of our Congress and Administration. They should not be in session today. They should be honoring the fallen and injured at Fort Hood and those that where taken from us in the atrocity of 9/11.
Instead they are trying to force a bill through that they have not read and do not have a clue about the total ramifications of the legislation that they are passing. The fact that they are even going to try to add “stronger” anti-abortion coverage to it today before they vote infuriates me to no end. If the Bishops are so focused on having this anti-abortion language added why are they not going after anti-vasectomy language. Isn’t that the same thing? Oh no wait, that would be against men.
I am going to stop here because I just have to get away for a while before my head explodes.

I would not have come and neither would anyone I spoke to if “the apologists” was here. The woman who was requested to speak was our former Senator, but they won’t mention that, might. Make Obama look bad that he wasn’t wanted here.but hey don’t jump to conclusions.
Do you think we wanted him to stand here and say “hey folks what a great contribution Islam has made, you got a nice new ship here”
Keep him the fuck away from NY.
I want this ship to be the one that brings Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist back to the US I want him to be tied to the bow of this ship and feel the arms of those he murdered strangeling him.

people spend billions on in this country to get an education and a LICENSE to PRACTICE and have accountability for everything they do to people as practitioners but we will fund COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS with no license no accountabilty DOES ANYONE REALISE HOW HORRIBLE THIS IS??? I am losing it here … Nurses fought like hell for standardisation and very careful supervision of even nursing assistants…

Social workers and drug rehab workers are going to have a fucking cows , hell they will have cows horses and sheep and goats
you cant just advise people on stuff
you have to have knowledge of their condition
you have to have some kind of knowledge
why bother to go to school and get a license
to practice anything
just get a corner storefront
and hang up your community health worker shingle
and advise people on nutrition obesity and drugs
etc etc
because that doesnt require any KNOWLEDGE
because you cant tell the difference between a tumor and fat doesnt mean anything…. or if someone has a metabolic disorder or a hormone disturbance or thyroid imbalance
who gives a shit
if you tell someone to quit a drug if that someone dies from withdrawal
as long as you are a community health worker
gettin money fromt he guvmint

from Scarlet’s WSJ link
On Nov. 2, the Congressional Budget Office estimated what the plans will likely cost. An individual earning $44,000 before taxes who purchases his own insurance will have to pay a $5,300 premium and an estimated $2,000 in out-of-pocket expenses, for a total of $7,300 a year, which is 17% of his pre-tax income. A family earning $102,100 a year before taxes will have to pay a $15,000 premium plus an estimated $5,300 out-of-pocket, for a $20,300 total, or 20% of its pre-tax income. Individuals and families earning less than these amounts will be eligible for subsidies paid directly to their insurer.

“We’re scrupulously non-judgmental about the ideology that drives terrorism.”
You got that right. And it’s about time the war on women was acknowledged. Let’s frame it. If the super-politically correct want not to single out Islam, then hey. Fine. Call the right-wing Christians and Catholics who fuel the abortion clinic bombings and murders of abortion providers for what they are, too. Terrorists. Equal opportunity denunciation. Now we have bishops pressuring our representatives to support that outrageous Stupak amendment?! wth?
You know, neither the apologists nor any of those involved in religious struggles (is there a single war in the world not fueled by this?) give a damn about women, although they will use that rhetoric if it temporarily suits them.
That one woman author who named it on tv had an agenda not to single out Islam, but at least she A. is actively trying to drag Islam into the 21st century and B. is the only one connecting all this crap, from Noor’s murder by her father to the Richmond gang rape, as a WAR on WOMEN.
Islam tops the list. There is no going back to the dark ages to compare today’s religions with these barbarians who still stone and behead women. That was then, this is NOW. But the gang rape is now, too, and the Stupak amendment is now. We’re at war. It’s our freedom, right now. We can’t afford to frame it any other way. We can’t fight something not even being acknowledged.

An unblinking look at one of the seminal moral challenges of our time. This stirring book is at once a savage indictment of gender inequality in the developing world and an inspiring testament to these…– Khaled Hosseini, author, The Kite Runner
The stories that Kristof and WuDunn share are as powerful as they are heartbreaking. Their insight into gender issues and the role of women in development inspires hope, optimism, and most importantly,…– Melinda Gates
Half the Sky is a passionate and persuasive plea to all of us to rise up and say ‘No more!’ to the 17th-century abuses to girls and women in the 21st-century world. This is a book that will pierce…– Tom Brokaw
If you have always wondered whether you can change the world, read this book. Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn have written a brilliant call to arms that describes one of the transcendent injustices…– Fareed Zakaria, author, The Post-American World
It’s impossible to exaggerate the importance of this book about one of the most serious problems of our time: the worldwide abuse and exploitation of women. In addition to describing the injustices,…– Anne Rice
I think it’s impossible to stand by and do nothing after reading Half the Sky. It does what we need most, it bears witness to the sheer cruelty that mankind can do to mankind.– George Clooney
I read Half the Sky in one sitting, staying up until 3 a.m. to do so. It is brilliant and inspirational, and I want to shout about it from the rooftops and mountains. It vividly illustrates how women have…– Greg Mortenson, author, Three Cups of Tea
Women facing poverty, oppression, and violence are usually viewed as victims. Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s Half the Sky shows that unimaginable challenges are often met with breathtaking bravery.…– Angelina Jolie
Keep reading…
Women aren’t the problem, they’re the solution — along with men.The best way to fight poverty and extremism is to educate and empower women and girls.Half the Sky lays out an agenda for the world’s women and three major abuses: sex trafficking and forced prostitution; gender-based violence including honor killings and mass rape; maternal mortality, which needlessly claims one woman a minute. We know there are many worthy causes competing for attention in the world. We focus on this one because this kind of oppression feels transcendent – and so does the opportunity. Outsiders can truly make a difference.
So let us be clear up front: We hope to recruit you to join an incipient movement to emancipate women and fight global poverty by unlocking women’s power as economic catalysts. It is a process that transforms bubbly teenage girls from brothel slaves into successful businesswomen. You can help accelerate change if you’ll just open your heart and join in.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) ― Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families near the site of the worst mass shooting on an Army post in the United States.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood’s Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood’s military leaders and hospital staff for the “amazing care they are providing.”

look for the return of the SEIU and their interference/infiltration in the 2010 elections.

Well…I hope FL Barb found Hillary!
If TerryDo is around, I met Susan Miller last night. She and Henry Seltzer were at the Boston Apple Store introducing new astrology software and iphone astrology reports. Fun night!
************************
How cool was that Zee, Susan Miller from http://www.astrologyzone.com/ seems like a petite woman from her picture on her website.
I hope you told her that her name appears frequently on Pumapac LOL

Actually, they weren’t yelling. And how do I know what they were speaking about? They were shouted over. Did the white males do this to the other men? Nope. To the women’s caucus.
There are women there fighting AGAINST the Stupak womb-police amendment, fyi.
Zee 11.07.09 at 5:19 pm
Swannie, I haven’t yet read the blog over at the no limits site I linked to above, but I glanced at the topics, and “half the sky” was one of them!

Zee 11.07.09 at 5:26 pm
TerryDo,
Yes, Susan is petite, but a firecracker of a speaker! Harry Seltzer, in contrast, is very tall, and Swannie’s “YUM” distracted me, hahaha, because he’s very easy on the eyes. And quite the gentleman, not stepping over, interrupting, or competing with Susan, in stark contrast with the braying male type like Scarborough we’re stuck with on the national “news” stage.
And his site, astrograph, is quite good, too.
Both of them spoke of the transits in relation to the United States, and I hate to say it, but they’re worried. Especially regarding the economy, but not just that. They didn’t dwell on that topic, or elaborate, because the focus was on the software and the audience.
Zee 11.07.09 at 5:27 pm
Also, I pass on this warning to PUMAs…be very careful this New Year’s Eve…a full moon and an eclipse. Try not to be out on the road.
Zee 11.07.09 at 5:37 pm
Hi persephone!
What I want to know, tho, is where were they when their male colleagues were speaking? Too respectful to interrupt?
Well, we can’t say this entire mess wasn’t expected. What really burns me up, tho, is all these moron Obots whining how they want Zerobama to “fight.” Hello, morons. Hillary TOLD you she was a fighter, and you sneered at her for that and said you wanted an appeaser!
What also burns me up are all these assholes who shrieked to high heavens that Palin (even tho she wasn’t even running for prez!!!!) would foist her “prolife” views on everyone. Why weren’t they shrieking this entire year when Zero was appeasing the womb-police? Zero was “reassuring” the womb-police long before Stupak came up with this crap amendment.
I mean, these things are my personal boiling point. The secrecy, the concessions to the insurance industry, all the other points everyone’s been following suck, and were to be expected, but I guess alllllll this stuff was foreshadowed so we can’t expect the Obots to wake up even when it’s finally here and shoved in our faces. But I still want to know when the hell they plan on waking up.

ISLAM SUCKS and so do all of those asshole congress critters sitting in DC – none of them should be re-elected to office – they keep forgetting they work for us – instead they think of only themselves – nasty pancakes made me want to vomit while she was spinning ….creepy old creep….
and the old fraud in chief is so in tune with the country that he’s spending the weekend at Camp David – nothing about the new ship, nothing about Ft Hood, no shoutouts to Hasan – just his arm twisting behind closed doors – asshole – can we please please please impeach this arrogant narcississtic POS??????????????

Has anyone seen this? “Unfortunately, for the thousands being turned away in clinics across America, the CDC has decided to prioritize the millionaires over the masses,” Sloan added. “First, the bailout, then the bonuses, now the vaccine. When will Washington start putting the needs of Main Street above those of Wall Street?” Goldman Sachs, for some reason (wink, wink) has received 3,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine for its employees–though I highly doubt there are 3,000 pregnant women and infants working there. Is this how they will run healthcare???

I have been watching the health care “debate” all day. “Debate” ? – it’s just an opportunity for representatives to grandstand and get on the record for the folks back home. Boehner seems to have a strategy – having asked the chaire of three committees if the Stupak amendment were to pass and as a result HR3962 also passes could they guarantee that such Stupak language would be in the final Bill. Well, of course, none of them could guarantee anything and this will cast doubts in the minds of people that the Dems have no intention to follow through on that issue. IMO the Dems have done a better job of countering any perceived inaccuracies in the Repubs assertions. Doesn’t mean the Dems are correct – they just seem to have been doing a better job of immediately making a counter point and having the last word.

Hi Everyone, I’m home and working on the videos now. It was an amazing day. They people there were outstanding and as you can tell by the pictures there are way too many rape survivors. I can tell you the fliers were a huge hit and very effective. Everyone was very receptive and I totally expect to see new people here on the blog. This was truly a grassroots effort organzied by two of the rape survivors. The mayor of Richmond spoke as well as lots of inspirational young people. Murphy’s idea of a Saturday flyer day is perfect. People were grabbing at the fliers and my cousin and her husband are going to post the ones we had left around Berkeley and the Oakland area.
Thanks so much to Dances and Murphy and all of you for your support. We can make a difference.
Lana 11.07.09 at 9:03 pm
I think/ Murphy is referring to those health care plans that drop women for pre-existing conditions such as having been raped.
RememberNovember 11.07.09 at 9:04 pm
It’s one thing to control what is allowed to us by government controlled healthcare – it’s a totally different thing to control what we can do with our OWN money – a bit like that European member of Parliament Daniel Hannan (?) – who I heard in an interview talking about his brother (in England) not being allowed to pay for the pain medication he needed, with his own money. Isn’t that the same in Canada where people are denied the opportunity to pay for health care?

sort of kidding. If you read Stupak’s amendment and pay attention to what they’re talking about in terms of the media stories around “how restrictive the abortion language might be” you can see how flucking (good word by the way dwp) STUPID it is to think that congress represents the interests of women.

SFPuma–thank you so much for your report. Dances, the fliers are fantastic. Puts the message right in the reader’s face. You can’t help but react.

RememberNovember 11.07.09 at 9:13 pm
Yep, sounds as though the Stupak amendment will not allow a woman of low economic means and who receives tax credits to help her pay for health care or if she chooses the public option and pays for the plan entirely on her own she cannot be covered for an abortion.

Thank you. I needed an intervention.
It all started with Pong. Then I moved to Lounge Lizard Larry and sought out lower company to join me.
Then I moved on to Myst. I used my mortage money to buy the game. I called in sick so I could stay home and play. I neglected my friends. I forgot to eat and sleep. I discontinued bathing and other activities of daily living. Pretty soon I was on the street and in allies begging for clues as to attain a higher level.
I was a periodic addict. Didnt play for years. Then, several of my friends told me about Bejeweled. I played once and scored high. This is my second week, and I scored an even better high.
I noticed that I responded “Skip” when asked if I wasnted to publish my status, i.e. dwp just played 20 games in a row.
Today I was thinking of relinguishing bragging rights anchanging my name so friends and family wouldn’t know how often I indulge.
The video scared me straight… in terms of Bejeweled and teh reality of addiction. Thanks.

That’s what disgusts me – it’s not a matter of voting one’s conscience or for the good of one’s constituents – it’s about arm twisting and bribery
When it is so close like that makes me wonder – what if we had worked harder – is there anything morer we could have done?
I wonder if the closeness of the vote will give the Senate pause?
CJK 11.08.09 at 12:21 am
I’ve been e-mailing members of the House all day, apparently to no avail. I can’t believe Pelosi pushed this vote today, instead of holding a day of silence, respect and sympathy for the slain and injured victims and families of the Ft. Hood Islamic terrorist shootings. I heard that 39 Dems voted against the bill, and that if only one more Dem had voted against it, it would not have passed. I plan to e-mail every Rep who voted for this bill and tell them how utterly disappointed I am in them, and letting them know that they will be held accountable at the voting booths for refusing to represent the will of the American people.

Oh dear – I realize that with so many different life experiences and with such a complicated Bill that we are not all in agreement on this blog re health care reform. Because it is SO complicated and there are limits to how much one can research I have concentrated on seniors (having experience
) and I think we are right royally screwed.

Thanks, Dances! Hope your fingers recover…
Well, it looks like the @#%@$#@$^ freaking bill passed anyway.
Onto the Senate…damn, it’s going to be a tough finish to 2009.
goofsmom 11.08.09 at 12:23 am
RemNov,
Okay, I’m going to make a sweeping generalizing statement here.
I don’t think we could have done anything more to change the vote… there are too many people on the hill that have been there forever and their votes are for sale along with their consinces… Until we vote all these corrupt B*stards out we will have crap like this happening.
As far as it giving the Senate pause… see above. Luckily they are moving at a snails pace as it is and the HC bill probably won’t go to a vote in the senate till after the first of the year.
All these amendments etc that they just voted on adding on the floor tonight will probably be thrown out in the Senate..
Aaaaak… that they did this at all without reading the damn thing just aggrevates me to no end…

Nancy got it passed by agreeing to the ban on abortion amendment.
The only good news is that these Congressmen/women are coming home next week for Veteran’s day. I hope the public goes after them with torches & pitchforks and enacts good spay & neuter techniques on them.

However, seriously I don’t think there is a snowball’s chance that with her constituency in San Francisco that could ever happen. It seems like a distant memory now that I remember choking up when she became Speaker – what a difference a primary makes …

Yay, Casper! Yay, RemVem! Yes, Goofs, we definitely need to make a list of all the members of the House who voted with Pelosi for this monstrous healthcare bill, then put together a campaign opposing their re-election. This should give us a very good start to voting all the bums out of Congress and hopefully getting a new crop that will listen to the will of the people!
CJK 11.08.09 at 12:56 am
P.S. Though Pelosi may have enjoyed some popularity in SF, I believe she’s vulnerable because of the Fraud’s back-peddling on all his promises to the gay community and Pelosi’s obvious slavish devotion to the Fraud.

I know I do not have to sing the praises of Hillary here but she was visibly exhausted from her trip over seas. She met with no media and no reporters with the families of 911.
She spoke as always from the heart and the importance as the USS New York is named to “never Forget”
I did have a conversation with her and it was about Faith.
“God will always answer your prayers sometimes the answer is Yes and sometimes the answer is Not now”
I am thinking about what that means right now.

Yes it is hopeless the deals have been made, the show is going on and we are all screwed!
The factions who want to kill abortion rights by passing this bill are more than happy to go along. The insurance and drug co are feeling just grand and our doctors are going to stop practicing medicine and we are again screwed and taxed to our quick deaths. Oh and the lawyers they are all in congress and in total control.
Islam sucks and I am sure they are in the bill too, sucking off America!

I can honestly say, for the first time in my life, my heart ached for my country and my fellow citizens, and most especially for my sisters.
I didn’t know that Stupak was a democrat – he proposed the amendment for the ban on abortion in the govt. healthcare bill. WTF?
Vote results on that bill here:

The ban on abortion bill is a double whammy – it will not pay for abortions under the govt. healthcare bill, NOR will it allow any other private insurance companies participating in the exchange to pay for abortions.
Currently, some private insurance pays for abortions.
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/newsroom/press-releases/planned-parenthood-condemns-passage-stupak-pitts-amendment-30821.htm
“Planned Parenthood condemns the adoption of the Stupak/Pitts amendment in HR 3962 this evening. This amendment is an unacceptable addition to the health care reform bill that, if enacted, would result in women losing health benefits they have today. Simply put, the Stupak/Pitts amendment would restrict women’s access to abortion coverage in the private health insurance market, undermining the ability of women to purchase private health plans that cover abortion, even if they pay for most of the premiums with their own money. This amendment reaches much further than the Hyde Amendment, which has prohibited public funding of abortion in most instances since 1977.

I woke up this morning feeling such dread. I feel like I did when the election was stolen. Like we felt on that day in Denver, and on the flight back home surrounded by all the obots flying back to Chicago, knowing that I sitting there alone with my Hillary gear still on, that they had no clue on what was in store for America. I did, we did. We still do. Time to re group, and get stronger and kick their asses out. they may be able to knock us down, but they will never knock us out.

well HP
call your senators HA fucking HA!
we have whatshisname, illegally appointed by Deval Patrick and the Dems to replace Ted Kennedy and to vote yes on Health Care.
or we have John Kerry, who doesn’t give a rat’s dick what happens-he has a life term, or so say the MA voters that will never vote for anyone who challenges him, especially if it’s an evil Republican!
and ps Martha Coakley would be voting YES if she was in senate.
Fuck her too- I am voting for Scott Brown.
At this point it won’t even be difficult.
The Democrats are out of control-they are enabling Obama and Pelosi at this point and the American public will have to fight back HARD to stop this train.

Lawmakers detail Obama’s speech to the House Dems before the vote….this guy is a real piece of work.
Mr. Obama, during his private pep talk to Democrats, recognized Mr. Owens election and then posed a question to the other lawmakers. According to Representative Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, who supports the health care bill, the president asked, “Does anybody think that the teabag, anti-government people are going to support them if they bring down health care? All it will do is confuse and dispirit” Democratic voters “and it will encourage the extremists.”

218 needed to pass
Dems Yeah 219
Nay 39
Rep 1 Yeah
Rep 176 Nay
Final Vote
220 215
So the bill passed by 2 votes……
220-215 ……5 yeah votes made the majority.
1 Republican Yeah vote.
They managed to get 1 Republican vote but lost 39 Democrats.
Hardly the sweeping Bi Partisan victory the Dems are claiming and celebrating.
But then again look how the celebrated Obama’s primary lose?

Persephone… I am a Registered Nurse … for anyone who doesnt already know… and I am here to tell you our health care “industry” does indeed suck . However, how it will be improved by FORCING PEOPLE to BUY insurance , and that includes the government option , rather than doing the things that needed done incrementally , like Tort reform , making sure WOMEN kept their coverage etc etc. THE BIG LIAR and the little ones assured people over and over their present coverage would not change . What they neglected to to say was EXCEPT FOR THE WOMEN , especially the POOR WOMEN , but who really gives a flying fuck about them . After all they consulted the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH BISHOPS ( the same ones who ignored pedophiles for 40 years) . Doesnt anyone else wonder what the Bishops will be consulted on next?

WASHINGTON — Lower taxes for gay couples who receive health benefits from employers. Nutrition labeling requirements for snack food sold in vending machines and many restaurants. A new program to teach parents how to interact with their children.
Those are some of the little-noticed provisions in a mammoth health care bill taken up Saturday by the House of Representatives.
