Another day on Planet Dude.

Via Persephone, Secretary of State Clinton is doing her best to beat back radical islam’s attempt to muzzle free speech and personal liberty around the world.:

“Some claim that the best way to protect the freedom of religion is to implement so-called antidefamation policies that would restrict freedom of expression and the freedom of religion. I strongly disagree,” said Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton this week.

She went on to argue that the best antidote to religious intolerance is enforcement of antidiscrimination laws, government “outreach” to minority religious groups, and “the vigorous defense of both freedom of religion and expression.”

Interesting article. Do you think this is an attempt by the obama administration to negotiate with the islamic world by committee? To use the tools and forums of diplomacy and international relations to pressure islam into becoming a tamer, less radical form of government? If so, obama likely approves of Clinton’s message to the UN and wants her efforts to succeed. If not; if obama secretly IS the radical islamic apologist many fear/believe he is, then he will undermine Clinton’s effort to declaw the UN’s Islamic Council. It would be VERY interesting to hear obama answer his opinion of the OIC’s UN’s resolution banning “blasphemy” against islam. I wonder if anyone in the White House press pool will ask him.

Not holding my breath.

Speaking of working toward a kinder, gentler islam, via Uppity:

“Arizona police are looking for an Iraqi man who they allege ran down his daughter and her friend because he believed his daughter had become “too Westernized. Peoria, Arizona, police said Wednesday that Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 48, struck his 20-year-old daughter, Noor Faleh Almaleki, and her friend Amal Edan Khalaf with a vehicle he was driving in a parking lot Tuesday afternoon

Faleh Hassan Almaleki was angry with his daughter “as she had become too ‘Westernized’ and was not living according to [the family's] traditional Iraq[i] values,” Peoria police said in a statement released Wednesday.

Noor Faleh Almaleki is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to the statement. Khalaf, 43, received injuries that are not life-threatening but is still in the hospital, police said.”

And this morning, between bouts of clearing out the spam filter of TEEN BLOWJOB, HOT ASIAN SLUTS, and TITTY TORTURE PORN comments and emailing with a Bay Area Puma friend about the gang rape frenzy on the 15-year old girl in San Francisco, I got THIS in my inbox:

Car bomb in marketplace in Peshawar, Pakistan, kills at least 90 people, most of them women, government official says.

“The attack is the deadliest ever carried out in Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province. It coincides with a visit to Pakistan by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”

of the hundreds of thousands of people killed by male violence of any kind in the past 10 years, most of them were women too.

feels like this is shaping up to be a kind of rotten day.

Surprise! Women are Invisible.

Obama Hails Brooke as Congress Bestows High Honor

“The president on Wednesday was on Capitol Hill as Brooke, now 90 years old, was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal. The honor is Congress’ highest form of appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions to society.

Obama said that many leaders — including himself — have followed the trail that Brooke blazed. And Brooke sat and smiled as the president spoke. Brooke had grown up in an era of racial segregation in D.C. He won the first of his two Senate terms representing Massachusetts in 1966. Obama said Brooke trusted that people would judge him on his character and ideas.”

This is not “Radical Islam”-these are UN members.

The OIC (organization of Islamic Conference), representing 56 Islamic countries, is pushing the debate for the UN anti-free speech amendment.

Their website: http://www.oic-oci.org/

They are a large mainstream group of united Muslim Countries with a heavy UN influence regarding Muslim interests.

Think of them as a lobby group-for Muslim interests.

This is what Hillary is dealing with.

9

persephone 10.28.09 at 12:12 pm

The media is being conditioned to specifically say either “Radical,” or “Fundamental” Islam-or not mention Islam at all, when reporting crimes or acts of domestic terrorism committed by Muslims (see Boston arrest, last week, murphy posted on it)

Phyllis Chesler on Islam and media bias, honor killings, and Obama’s Islamic Faith Advisor supporting Sharia Law during a British TV interview and then later, backtracking.

Murphy,

Why would you think we would think you’re kidding?

A woman being murdered while fabric shopping to make herself an isolation chamber..is that odd? Is that so unfucking believable?
Kinda like hearing a girl was gang raped for 2 hours, the barbaric act filmed and unreported
NO…that is just a normal day when you wear the label..lowest form of life according to HIM.

21

Puma-SF 10.28.09 at 12:50 pm

OH cool, if you have a chance listen to her interview on Planet Money. At one point she said “hold on”. Her husband told her about a deer in their front yard and she had to go see it. I love this woman as well.

22

FLBarbara 10.28.09 at 1:04 pm

One thing “admirable” about Islam is at least they call it what they believe it is An “Honor to kill a woman”

They can fill a staduim with on lookers, who cheer the abuse of a woman being stoned and beheaded..
.

Soooo happy that doesn’t happen here Huh?

23

persephone 10.28.09 at 1:05 pm

are there any msm sites that don’t feature a story about girls and/or women being raped and murdered today?
can’t even comment on the gang rape story.
except to say it would be very hard to argue against capital punishment for barbaric crimes like that.

From Puma-SFs ‘link #34:

France to launch national pride campaign in battle against Islamic fundamentalism
By PETER ALLEN
27th October 2009

France is to adopt a series of measures to ‘reaffirm pride’ in the country and combat Islamic fundamentalism.

They include everybody receiving lessons in the nation’s Christian history and children singing the national anthem.

Using words which infuriated ethnic minority groups and Socialist opponents, immigration minister Eric Besson also said he wanted ‘foreigners to speak better French’.

He called for all recent arrivals to be monitored by ‘Republican godfathers’, charged with helping immigrants to integrate better.

His proposed measures contrast sharply with the situation in Britain where ‘citizenship education’ centres on multicultural diversity.

M Besson, who was born in the former French protectorate of Morocco, suggested a debate on national identity’ entitled ‘What does it mean to be French?’
___________________________________________________

It’s striking that France, a country far to the left of the US, takes pride in a “national identity,” not to mention it’s “Christian history.”

Political correctness prevents Americans from doing any such thing.

Does this mean we are being sold a bill of goods and defending one’s culture many not be “racist” after all? (especially when defending one’s culture means defending the hard won freedoms and protections of women and girls?)

Thanks for the link, SF.
Good to see EU countries fighting back against the creep.

The French won’t be adopting Sharia any time soon.
Now we need a president that will partner with them, not pander and appoint pro-Sharia advisers for chrissake.

I am so angry I could chew horsehoes and spit nails … My local democratic club keeps mailing these flyers .. and THIS TIME they included a cartoon of SARAH PALIN http://z.about.com/d/politicalhumor/1/0/8/y/2/Palin-Idiots-Guide.jpg

I guess they think that is “funny ”
I find it offensive and misogynist I intend to respond ..via phone and email and hopefully in person as well . Any suggestions as to what I might include in my response ? I have many ideas already but I just thought I would share .

Also , on the muslim front , I was listening to NPR yesterdy . The author of a book and movie about LOUISA MAY ALCOTT , the wome who wrote LITTLE WOMEN Harriet Reisen: “Louisa May Alcott” (Henry Holt)
Guest host: Frank Sesno

Louisa May Alcott’s ‘Little Women’ has entertained readers for generations. A new biography of Alcott reveals her own life was as interesting and epic as that of her most popular novel’s heroine.

Guests
Harriet Reisen, Author, contributor to public radio, and writer and producer for public television.
During the interview the author made a comment regarding how many translations of LITTLE WOMEN there were all over the world and

EVEN MUSLIM WOMEN WERE ALLOWED TO READ IT BECAUSE A TRANSLATION OF LITTLE WOMEN WAS ALLOWED IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES

Now …what does this mean ?? that our literature should be so inoffensive that even muslim women can read it ? Or is the implication that it is ok for muslim to have their reading material restricted?? Just askin ………

Good morning (((Pumas))) (still a.m. in CA!)

((Murphy)) (last thread) – yes, I have the morning dreads too – but you know, even on those darkest of days there is always one Puma, then another and another with words of wisdom, amazing insight, words of encouragement and comfort, frequently side-cracking humor, generosity of spirit and kindness that help to shine a light and help us through the day so that we can act … thanks everyone

SF-Puma -thanks for the heads up on the Bay Bridge – have to change plans completely – what a mess the traffic will be.

Will be unexpectedly out of blog/email/tv contact for a few days (OMG – what will I do?) – so I hope the rest of your week is better Pumas and more cheerful than the past couple days

((Dances)) – minus eleven – it’s been minus double digits for twelve out of thirteen days – the longest run of negativity on the Rasmussen poll

Here’s to all you wonderful, kind and generous Pumas – as someone said yesterday – there are incredible women on this blog, someone else wrote me of kindred spirits. I am honored to know you!

See you all much later

You bet, Pers and RemVem. Looks like the bridge will be closed for a while. I don’t want them to hurry this repair. Who knows what will happen if they don’t do it right.

Pers: It is good to see the EU fighting back.

Swannie: That cartoon has been spitting nails now. I have a Borders on my corner and if they try to sell that phony book that comes out when hers does I’m going to protest outside the store.
