good morning! Hope and change!
The dollar is sh*t.
n the most profound financial change in recent Middle East history, Gulf Arabs are planning – along with China, Russia, Japan and France – to end dollar dealings for oil, moving instead to a basket of currencies including the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan, the euro, gold and a new, unified currency planned for nations in the Gulf Co-operation Council, including Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Qatar.
Secret meetings have already been held by finance ministers and central bank governors in Russia, China, Japan and Brazil to work on the scheme, which will mean that oil will no longer be priced in dollars.

WASHINGTON — President Obama yesterday rolled out the red carpet — and handed out doctors’ white coats as well, just so nobody missed his hard-sell health-care message.
In a heavy-handed attempt at reviving support for health-care reform, the White House orchestrated a massive photo op to buttress its claim that front-line physicians support Obama.

The American Way of Dentistry
The story of my teeth.
By June Thomas

If you were to run into me at one of the New York gatherings to which I am occasionally invited, you might think that I was born into the cocktail class. I’m reasonably well-educated and confident, I have an interesting job, and I know which fork to use.
Until a few years ago, though, you might have spotted a clue that I was a newcomer to the haute bourgeoisie: my snaggle-toothed smile. Many Americans believe they live in a classless society, but this conviction is tested by the sight of a mouth packed with mangled or missing teeth. It’s visual code for hillbilly. In my case, that happens to be wrong. I was raised not in an Appalachian holler but in the industrial north of England. Many Americans are intimidated by a British accent, which connotes status and smarts, but if there’s one area where they have a superiority complex, it’s teeth.

Hey Murphy! Too funny about that full moon. I stopped by to see a friend of mine at her store, a no-nonsense business woman, and she warned me the full moon was still having an affect!
Check out TGW this morning. They caught the peeping Tom who filmed the sports journalist nude, and guess what? His lawyer says he’s a “regular guy” who’s never even had a traffic ticket and soooooo many people are calling and asking how they can “help” him.
And she’s not the only woman he filmed nude and put on the internet.
Zee 10.06.09 at 9:08 am
I think that Zero should have Polanski and Peeping Tom over for a beer summit and give an Important Speech on how it’s time women started wearing burqas because the nice menfolk just can’t help themselves. Yes, including bathing burqas, because it still drives the hapless men crazy that some woman may be nude behind closed doors.

Hey perse and HP! HP, you have nailed it. Teeth are a huge status symbol these days. It’s the bleach that drives me crazy. How white are they gonna go? They’re blinding. It’s getting so that in movies a few years old I notice that the actors teeth are not blinding and how in modern movies I notice how out of place those blinding white teeth are when the actors are supposed to be portraying people who are down on their luck. Yeah, right.
Zee 10.06.09 at 9:14 am
perse, you know people have been harassing Hillary to “free Polanksi.” Has she made a statement yet? The WH tried to make no statement then quickly added that Zero was “against” rape or some hilariously obvious observation.

BCL – love that idea
BTW, while it is quiet, have you any advice forme with a 16 year old kitty who is still grieving for his life time pal almost a year after he died. I love him to death, he gets extra cuddles and attention but nothing I do seems to help him – it breaks my heart to hear him howling by the door of the room where his buddy spent his last few days. He does have another potential feline pal in the house but they just do not seem to be close. It is so sad.
*********************************************
Sorry I missed your question last night, I had gone to bed.
You might try taking the sad cat into the room where his buddy died and talk and cuddle with him and let him know that you understand his sadness. Cats are alot more understanding of our feelings than many understand, and if he knows you support him, it may help him to move on. Also I would get the 2 remaining cats together in the same room and give them treats and then play with them together, so he begins to see the 2nd cat as a play buddy, that might help them both to bond. Cats are not pack animals like dogs, so they tend to have only one buddy at a time. The other cat is used to being the outsider so it needs to be taught to be the buddy too. Hope this helps.

In June, Democrat Gov. Pat Quinn signed an executive order approving collective bargaining by “individual providers of home-based support services” — effectively busting open the doors of private homes for the Purple Shirts of the SEIU and other union competitors hungry for new dues-paying members.
The home-based workers weren’t seeking a collective bargaining agent.
But unions were targeting them.

You Can’t Say That
At the UN, the Obama administration backs limits on free speech.
by Anne Bayefsky
10/05/2009
The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. The newly-minted American policy was rolled out at the latest session of the UN Human Rights Council, which ended in Geneva on Friday. American diplomats were there for the first time as full Council members and intent on making friends.
President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted the president’s penchant for “engagement” as meaning fundamental rights were now up for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America’s most treasured freedom.

Good morning Puma’s. Murphy, yes we did miss you! Glad you are home safe and sound. ((((RememberNovember))) One thing you might want to do is make sure there are no toys or beds and blankets that the other cat played with, or laid on. Wash them to get the scent off, as it will prolong the grieving process with the remaining cat. To help with the bonding process you may want to keep the remaining two cats shut in a room together for 2 or 3 days, bring their food to them and have them share the litter box. Before you know it, they will be great friends.

Turning the carbon screws on businesses so they lobby Congress for cap and trade.
How else to explain the coordinated release on Wednesday of the EPA’s new rules that make carbon a dangerous pollutant and John Kerry’s cap-and-trade bill?
Ms. Jackson is issuing a political ultimatum to business, as well as to Midwestern and rural Democrats: Support the Kerry-Obama climate tax agenda—or we’ll punish your utilities and consumers without your vote.
The EPA has now formally made an “endangerment finding” on CO2, which will impose the command-and-control regulations of the Clean Air Act across the entire economy.
Ms. Jackson made a show of saying her new rules would only apply to some 10,000 facilities that emit more than 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year, as if that were a concession. These are the businesses—utilities, refineries, heavy manufacturers and so forth—that have the most to lose and are therefore most sensitive to political coercion.
Yet one not-so-minor legal problem is that the Clean Air Act’s statutory language states unequivocally that the EPA must regulate any “major source” that emits more than 250 tons of a pollutant annually, not 25,000.
The EPA’s Ms. Jackson made up the higher number out of whole cloth because the lower legal threshold—which was intended to cover traditional pollutants, not ubiquitous carbon—would sweep up farms, restaurants, hospitals, schools, churches and other businesses. Sources that would be required to install pricey “best available control technology” would increase to 41,000 per year, up from 300 today, while those subject to the EPA’s construction permitting would jump to 6.1 million from 14,000.

Time for a TARP Exit Strategy
The remaining $330 billion should go to deficit reduction.
President Obama has become the de facto CEO of large chunks of our economy, with the power to hire and fire executives, dictate salaries, declare what products should be made, and decide winners and losers in the marketplace. The inherent conflicts of interest are enormous and should be a concern to all Americans.

from the WSJ/Thune article at #32:
To that end I’ve introduced the Government Ownership Exit Plan, which would ensure that the federal government sells its ownership stake within a reasonable time frame. Whether we move forward under a plan developed by the administration or the legislative framework I’ve introduced is not important. It simply needs to be done.
We also need to ensure that any TARP funds recouped from the sale of assets are dedicated to deficit reduction, not more spending or more government takeovers. TARP was created in response to a very specific—and temporary—financial emergency. It was never intended to become a $700 billion slush fund for whatever business experiment the administration sets its eyes on.

Inequality as Usual by Ross Douthat:
There is, however, one way that a Democrat majority can plausibly bring down inequality: Just let government keep growing.
This is the lesson of Western Europe, where the public sector is larger and the income distribution much more egalitarian. The European experience suggests that specific policy interventions — the shape of the tax code, the design of the education system — may matter less in the long run than the sheer size of the state. If you funnel enough of a nation’s gross domestic product through a bureaucracy, the gap between the upper class and everybody else usually compresses.
But economic growth often compresses along with it. This is already the logic of our current fiscal trajectory: ever-larger government, and ever-slower growth.
That combination could eventually create the more egalitarian America that Democrats have long promised to deliver. The question is whether Americans will thank them for it.

During the spring legislative session, SEIU workers stormed the Illinois state capitol, demanding that lawmakers raise the state’s income tax rate to meet the current state budget shortfall. Purple-shirted SEIU members blocked capitol chambers’ entrances, pushing for a vote on the tax increase that would in part fund their members’ contract negotiated earlier in the year.
The State Board of Elections website shows SEIU made 258 direct campaign contributions to Illinois Republicans, but for every one contribution to Republicans, SEIU made ten to Illinois Democrats (or at least 2,870), to date exceeding $7 million.
Service Employees International Union –SEIU Local 880– was founded by Wade Rathke while he was president of ACORN. He has described SEIU as one of the pillars of the ACORN family of organizations.
The Illinois Alliance for Growth announced yesterday that it is urging seven Republican lawmakers to either return or donate to charity political contributions made by SEIU Local 880/Acorn since 2006.

Congressional leaders fight against posting bills online
October 6, 2009
As Congress lurches closer to a decision on an enormous overhaul of the American health care system, pressure is mounting on legislative leaders to make the final bill available online for citizens to read before a vote.
Lawmakers were given just hours to examine the $789 billion stimulus plan, sweeping climate-change legislation and a $700 billion bailout package before final votes.
While most Americans normally ignore parliamentary detail, with health care looming, voters are suddenly paying attention. The Senate is expected to vote on a health bill in the weeks to come, representing months of work and stretching to hundreds of pages. And as of now, there is no assurance that members of the public, or even the senators themselves, will be given the chance to read the legislation before a vote.
What you don’t know can hurt you:
» House energy and global warming bill, passed June 26, 2009. 1,200 pages. Available online 15 hours before vote.
» $789 billion stimulus bill, passed Feb. 14, 2009. 1,100 pages. Available online 13 hours before debate.
» $700 billion financial sector rescue package, passed Oct. 3, 2008. 169 pages. Available online 29 hours before vote.
» USA Patriot domestic surveillance bill, passed Oct. 23, 2001. Unavailable to the public before debate.

found this article, not sure if I agree wholeheartedly
but it’s an interesting read:

My first red flag with this article is when it is stated that this person did not vote for Hillary, then thinking it is up to Hillary to call the fraud on the natural born citizenship issue would make her the savior of the planet? She might as well be the tool for the Republicans and shoot herself. She has to stay clean of the issue at this point, just like she is staying away from ObamaCrapHealthCare fraud bill…Hillary is no dummy and no one’s tool.
I hope the court brings down the fraud for his own corruption, or not at all. It’s not up to Hillary to fall on her sword for anyone else.

Good afternoon Puma friends,
Did anyone hear that Obama went to the UN Human Rights Counsel and signed on to their logic that free speech has to be curtailed? There is a great article here: http://www.hudson.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=publication_details&id=6518
Can we finally bring up articles of impeachment since he is going against a pledge he made at the innauguration to protect the constitution (SECOND AMENDMENT PROTECTS FREE SPEECH). He is against our constitution and is subverting our rights to a UN (mostly Islamic Arab) counsel???? They would have us (esp women) have NO RIGHTS. American should NOT be in agreement with the UN counsel overriding our free speech rights! This is scary and possibly grounds for impeachment. Does anyone think this should be brought to the attention of anyone in the Senate or Congress since the constitution also reads “the president cannot sign a treaty without 2/3 of the Senate’s approval”? and does this apply??

Can we please have Saturday back Murphy? No news about the US giving away the first amendment, no SEIU harassment of home based care workers, no Pelosi VAT, no global economy implications – no….., no …., I wonder who is planned to be the first World President? Any guesses? – perhaps Soros will head up the World Treasury…….
Do you think we all read too much? – most of the country does not get as upset as we do because they are not aware of the machinations of this deceptive administration … and the current status of jobs, homes, economy, healthcare is as much as they can handle anyway – as much as any sane person can handle

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today became the latest Republican to back an overhaul of healthcare, as the Obama administration gathers support for what it hopes will be the final bipartisan push.
In a prepared statement, Schwarzenegger, generally more liberal on social issues than most of his fellow Republicans, stressed the need for action. “I believe in the vital importance of this issue and that it should be addressed through bipartisan cooperation.”
The governor, who is termed out, cited goals he shares with Obama, such as slowing the growth in healthcare costs and ensuring a strong economic recovery. “I appreciate his partnership with the states and encourage our colleagues on both sides of the aisle at the national level to move forward.”

Had to calm the patient since the consensus is to do the tests but not remove or touch any polyps and such b/c he has been on blood thinners for too short a time to forgo it for testing.
He is NOT going to drink that stuff and do it again! Oh yes he is! He has not had any in the past but they must look before they decide what the spots on his liver are about.
I do have the garage if it gets to be a government gone so far amuck who needs a colonoscopy!

The EU model of VAT:
What is VAT?
a consumption tax because it is borne ultimately by the final consumer. It is not a charge on businesses.
_____________________________
VAT on services
VAT on services is paid at the place where the service has been supplied. This will most often, but not always, be where the service supplier is established. The trader will in those cases account for VAT on his services in the Member State where he is established, applying the VAT rate of that country.
Depending on the nature of the service, VAT may need to be paid in another Member State than that where the supplier is established. This is for example the case with services connected to immovable property; transport of passengers or goods; cultural, artistic, sporting, scientific, educational, and entertainment services.
If the European model is adopted, the consumer pays.
In Europe, foreigners get the VAT on luxury goods refunded:
Thus, goods which are sold for export or services which are sold to customers abroad are normally not subject to VAT.

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt?
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.
Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts?
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.
In their sties with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around.
In their lives there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whacking.
Everywhere there’s lots of piggies
Living piggy lives.
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.

I understand completely how you feel. It is overwhelming. Just know we are here for you. you don’t need the garage. I know your husband must be discouraged. My daughter goes through the same thing. She gets blood clots, has to go on the thinners, this has gone on for five years. That is why they could never take her uterus out, because if they did she could throw a clot, and if they don’t the chance of going out of remission is much higher.
It is hard enough going through this with your family member, but all the things going on around us, sometimes makes it unbearable. I have learned to just take it a day at a time.

Murphy, here’s hoping Polanski and ‘Littleman’ are both ‘kissed by Dementors’! IMO, if it were possible, losing their souls might be the only adequate punishment for their horrific sexual abuse of girls and women. To any PUMAs who haven’t already done so, please consider signing the ‘jail Polanski’ petition at http://thenewagenda.net/.
Also, to any PUMAs who haven’t already done so, please consider urging CBS to fire ‘Littleman,’ who’s apparently testified that he “doesn’t even know” how many subordinates/staff members he’s slept with. http://hillbuzz.org/2009/10/05/new-calls-for-david-letterman-to-be-fired/ IMO, ‘Depraved Dave’ should be required to register as a sexual predator.

paid to the revenue authorities by the seller of the goods, who is the “taxable person”, but it is actually paid by the buyer to the seller as part of the price. It is thus an indirect tax.

DWP all taxes on business are paid by the consumer, unless the business has a government subsidy . Taxes are figured into the cost of production.
The Fat Cats are not going to pay VAT out of their own pocket.
DancesWithPumas 10.06.09 at 6:17 pm
Thanks.
Where I was getting stuck was if the product costs ten cents to manufacture, and they sell the item for a dollar, they’d add .09 cents to the sales price… BUT then they’d have to pay a higher tax on the now .99 cents price … So they’d have to add another penny to the price…. Rinse and repeat, ad infinitum.
Cape Hatteras 10.06.09 at 6:25 pm
DWP The tax people would figure the value is a dollar, but the .09 is added to the sale price.
Of course this also means there is the expense of figuring out how much “value” has been added . This is another expense to be paid. Accountants dont work for free.

Another thing about taxes is the big boys can use them against their smaller less connected competition.
My own family business had to some major waterfront property taxes while our main competition paid ZERO property taxes AND got a major subsidy from the state government.
As for corporations , one of the primary jobs of their lobbyists is to arrange MINOR changes in the tax code to benifit their corporation while hurting the new less politically connected competition. These “minor changes” tend to occur under the radar ,but the keep the old boys from having to compete on a level playing field .

The VAT definition at this link (which includes links for definitions of terms within this entry) might be of help.
http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/value-added-tax-VAT.html
Value added tax (VAT)
Definition
Indirect tax on the domestic consumption of goods and services, except those that are zero-rated (such as food and essential drugs) or are otherwise exempt (such as exports). It is levied at each stage in the chain of production and distribution from raw materials to the final sale based on the value (price) added at each stage. It is not a cost to the producer or the distribution chain members, and whereas its full brunt is borne by the end consumer, it avoids the double taxation (tax on tax) of a direct sales tax. Introduced by the European Economic Community (now the European Union) in the 1970s.

California’s Zigzag on Welfare Rules Worries Experts
FRESNO, Calif. — As he pressed state lawmakers over the summer to close a record budget deficit, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger lathered scorn on the state’s welfare-to-work program. He called it too lenient on the work requirement and overly generous in its benefits. At one point, he proposed eliminating it, then compromised to make it tougher.

Congressional Democrats introduced legislation on Tuesday to make it easier for older workers to win age discrimination lawsuits (a Supreme Court decision in June had made it harder by requiring that the worker show that age was the deciding factor in an employment decision).

Taking Back Nobel Prizes
The Issue
It’s a big week for Nobel Prizes. On Monday, the prize for medicine was announced. Today, Tuesday, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences reveals the winner of the physics prize. On Wednesday, the chemistry award is made public; on Thursday, it’s literature’s turn.
There’s still time to get a bet down on what to me is the big one, the Peace Prize. Past winners comprise a roster worthy of esteem, but the list also includes a few clinkers, people who, in retrospect, seem curious choices at best. On Friday, when this year’s winner is disclosed, shouldn’t the Norwegian Nobel Committee do what we encourage in other realms: acknowledge error, and then rescind those past awards bestowed on the conspicuously undeserving?

Democrats vow to ban domestic violence as ‘pre-existing condition’
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Top House Democrats on Tuesday slammed insurers who claim that domestic violence is a pre-existing condition that can be used to deny coverage to battered women.

Washington Sen. Patty Murray, a Democrat, told CNN that she heard about the issue several years ago while talking to women who trying to escape abusive relationships.
One of the women “told me that she did not report her domestic violence because her health insurance company would drop her. I [initially] didn’t believe” the woman, Murray said.
Murray introduced an amendment banning the practice in 2006 but was unable to get the measure approved.

Students to Protest Afghan War on 25 Campuses (Oct. 7)
From the Students for a Democratic Society Antiwar Working Group:
Demonstrations mark 8th anniversary of Afghan War–demand immediate U.S./NATO withdrawal
Students on 25 campuses across the United States will protest eight long years of war against and occupation of the people of Afghanistan, on Wednesday October 7. Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), a nation-wide student organization committed to activism for peace, justice and equality, are organizing the protest.
“We are outraged by the daily loss of life and devastation caused by the U.S. military in Afghanistan,” Daniel Ginsberg-Jaeckle, a member of SDS in Milwaukee, WI. “For eight years this occupation has brought nothing but misery, poverty and suffering to the Afghan people. The U.S. and NATO need to get out now.”

Great answer. Also, I have been thinking about this….you know, in spare moments!
I can’t remember where I read or heard the discussion on the 2nd amendment (believe it or not, I think it was on CNN amongst women journalists!) but it was the first time ever I’d heard anyone address whether the 2nd amendment was meant for individuals or only for state militias.
But *that* is the discussion we should be having there. Same with the “natural born” language.
And here’s the kicker…it really doesn’t matter what the original founders meant. They themselves acknowledged that they designed the document to be “living” and able to be amended by future citizens to fit the needs of the time. So we are free to clarify or develop the arms/well-regulated militia language and the “natural born” language as well.
The founders were concerned with dual citizenry because the nation was so new. They had a specific concern. But they didn’t term it “dual.” Unfortunate, because there is no debate that Zero was born dual citizen (indeed 3 or 4 if you count his later citizenry with Indonesia).
It’s too bad the BC people didn’t just focus on this, so that the discussion was limited to the irrefutable and to clarifying what the language means or should mean.
Zee 10.06.09 at 11:52 pm
Oh, gosh….going thru the thread backwards and forwards. Pretty sure we already had posted that insurers in some states consider battered women as a “pre-existing condition.”
But the info cannot be repeated too often, since too many don’t know and we need to shove the misogyny right under people’s noses. Meanwhile, peeping toms are “regular guys” and subordinate-screwer David Gutterman is still on the air crowing about his misdeeds.

I will call the State Department tomorrow to ask SOS Hillary Clinton to trust her original instincts on the ousting of President Zelaya of Hondoras. The Obama administrations position will forever be a blemish on SOS Clintons record if she does not distance herself from Obama’s position that Zelaya must be returned to his former position. Obama’s foreign policy is a disaster and is a threat to our nations security. Elections in Hondoras were set for this November before this crisis occured and we should support the results of this upcoming election. To do anything else would be supporting dictatorship in Hondoras.
This is an issue that has gotten Hillary Clinton praise from experienced US foreign policy makers who refer to Hillary Clinton as the only one in the admistration who has it right on Hondoras. Unfortunately she has had to subpress her position to accomodate the appeaser in cheif who most likely will try to pull a “Zelaya” of his own if we let him stay in office until 2016. It’s no wonder all the world’s dictators love Obama soo much. What an ass. Get out while you still have your street cred Hillary and run for Governor of N.Y.. This administation is a sinking ship.

Say nyet to the pay czar
Posted Oct 06 2009, 10:51 AM by Minyanville Rating: Filed under: Yahoo, GM, Todd Harrison
This article is written by Minyanville’s Jeff Macke
We should have known this would end horribly. The first “red” flag was the administration inventing a job called Pay Czar.
There’s a reason the communists whacked the last legitimate Czar and got away with it. The Red Army’s horrifying power and sadism helped, but the real reason was the public figuring that Romanov’s idiocy made it likely anyone else would be better.
Nicholas Romanov sent Russian troops to the front in World War I unarmed with instructions to use the guns of the dead Russian troops ahead of them. Pay Czar
Kenneth Feinberg is apparently set on fixing the markets by forcing banks to take half their pay in stock options.
You may remember stock options from the bubble days when everyone at Yahoo (YHOO) from the chief to the company chefs became zillionaires and retired in their 20s. That was about $300 in Yahoo share price ago.
So, in an allegedly coordinated effort, the administration has openly rigged the stock market, bought General Motors (MTLQQ), used taxpayer dollars to fund Cash for Clunkers (a program which curiously labeled cars like my Hummer and other toxic fog machine SUVs as “efficient”), and is now mandating stock options instead of cash for highly paid executives at firms that willingly or unwillingly took the low interest loans — which were largely responsible for killing anything resembling a free market in the US.
Professional short sellers have, in effect, been sent to the front unarmed.

The Kennedy clan already came out against Coakley for looking into and preparing a possible Senate run while Ted was still alive. This is clearly a bullshit attack since all the candidates were preparing so it stands to reason that it shows who is who.
I got a letter from local pols and neighbors announcing their support of Capuano – who has a very good reputation by the way – but is a lockstep Obama man. (I think – lets check that as I am not sure)

from the WSJ editorial creating quite a stir this morning:
In an interview with Newsweek, Gen. McChrystal said he wouldn’t resign if the President rejects his request for more troops. If he were really trying to dictate policy, he’d have given a different answer. But we don’t think Gen. McChrystal should stay to implement a Biden war plan either. No commander in uniform should ask his soldiers to die for a strategy he doesn’t think is winnable—or for a President who lets his advisers and party blame a general for their own lack of political nerve.

In that moment, Keller, an Alabama native who lost her sight and hearing to illness as a toddler, understood that meanings were hidden in the manual alphabet shapes her teacher, Anne Sullivan, had taught her to make with her hands. The moment was shown in the play — later made into a movie — “The Miracle Worker.”
On Wednesday, a statue commemorating her 1887 breakthrough will be unveiled in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall, the first statue in the Capitol of a person with a disability, as well as the first of a child, according to the Alabama governor’s office.

Saudi sex braggart gets 5 years, 1,000
By Mohammed Jamjoom
(CNN) — A Saudi court on Wednesday sentenced a man who caused uproar by bragging about his sex life on television to five years in prison and 1,000 lashes, according to Ministry of Information officials.
Mazen Abdul Jawad talked openly about his sex life on the controversial show.
Mazen Abdul Jawad, a 32-year-old airline employee and divorced father of four, spoke openly about his sexual escapades, his love of sex and losing his virginity at age 14. He made the comments on Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation, which aired the interview a few months ago.
Saudi authorities shut down LBC offices in Jeddah and Riyadh after airing the interview on an episode of its popular show “A Thick Red Line.” Abdul Jawad was arrested shortly after the program aired and charged with violating Saudi Arabia’s crime of publicizing vice.
On the program, Abdul Jawad is also shown in his bedroom, where he holds sexual aids up to the camera. The episode ends with him cruising the streets of Jeddah in his car looking for women.
The episode caused an uproar in deeply conservative Saudi Arabia, where sharia, or Islamic law, is practiced. Pre-marital sex is illegal, and unrelated men and women are not permitted to mingle.

about the VAT tax
Using data for 2008, a VAT of just 1% would raise an added $63 billion. Make it “just” 5%, and it’s a $315 billion annual tax hike on all Americans — or roughly $2,670 on every household, including the poor and middle-class.

I have been to many political events the last few days, Saturday was never ending, and the “Rumors” are rampant.
This one is making the rounds, seems Charlie Rangel will be asked to step down, then Governor Paterson will run for the Rangel seat and Hillary will run for Governor. This is only a rumor! But everyone is talking about it and mostly everyone is excited about it.

The older one never had a problem, as she is just like me lol, but the younger shy one, really came out of her shell, now she is confident, gets up in front of entire classrooms, ran for student council and won! She is in a new school now, and going for class president. Shy no more!

from Scarlet’s link at #226:
Fiscal Policy: Sometimes the worst ideas are the most tempting. So it is with the value-added tax, or VAT — a potential money gusher for strapped governments but a massive new levy on all Americans.
At least twice a decade, it seems, desperate politicians latch on to the idea of a VAT as the best way to raise lots of money for their spending schemes. No wonder. Unlike our current system, a VAT would impose a uniform levy at each level of production, from raw materials to finished goods, so the revenue potential is huge.
Which is why it keeps coming up in our free-spending Capital.

Your candidate seems like a social moderate…if we do end up with yet another male senator, at least he’s not into dictating what a woman can do with her body! This is a good direction for Republicans and should attract more women candidates in the future.
But Obama too much of a PROGRESSIVE? Are you kidding? If only! He’s continuing and expanding Bush-Cheney policies! Antichoice activists in positions of power? As head of the Dem Party?? He’s a Trojan Ass, no Dem.
Maybe you’re confusing him with the image his Obot-apologists have of him. They’re always excusing his continuance of outdated and conservative views as though he’s some brilliant strategist who is playing along in order to outwit the conservatives 7 years down the road.

The talk is the R that may run for NY Governor is Rudy Guiliani. Not sure if Paterson could beat him.
The Ds can not afford to have NY go R especially to a political power house like Rudy is in NY. Keep in mind 2012 Presidential election is what the Ds are focused on.
If Rudy runs, the person who runs against him must Carry as much political weight as he does.
Who could that be?
Not saying Hillary will run, I doubt it, only the reason her name keeps coming up she is the one they believe can defeat Rudy.
The 2012 Presidential election is their focus in NY.
Rudy will be against Obama
Hillary will be for Obama.
That is what the talk is.

Top Ten Reasons Chicago Didn’t Get the Olympics
10. Dead people can’t vote at IOC meetings
9. Obama distracted by 25 min meeting with Gen. McChrystal
8. Who cares if Obama couldn’t talk the IOC into Chicago? He’ll be able to talk Iran out of nukes.
7. The impediment is Israel still building settlements.
6. Obviously no president would have been able to accomplish it.
5. We’ve been quite clear and said all along that we didn’t want the Olympics.
4. This isn’t about the number of Olympics “lost”, it’s about the number of Olympics “saved” or “created”.
3. Clearly not enough wise Latina judges on the committee
2. Because the IOC is racist.
1. It’s George Bush’s fault.
I’m not sure who gets the credit for this gem, but since it’s posted at National Review Online’s blog, The Corner, the author appears to be National Review editor and Fox News commentator Rich Lowry.

Bill would allow religious observances in Mass. public schools
By Sarah Thomas, Sun Correspondent
Updated: 10/07/2009 06:41:09 AM EDT
BOSTON — Some area lawmakers are supporting legislation on Beacon Hill that would allow students to openly engage in prayer and other religious activities during the school day by defining the students’ rights and protecting school districts from potential lawsuits.
The Joint Committee on Education heard testimony yesterday on a bill confirming students’ rights to express religious sentiments during school ceremonies such as commencement or sporting events. Such expressions have happened in Tewksbury, where Superintendent of Schools Christine McGrath said students have referenced their religion in speeches.
“Unless something is offensive, we give students a pretty broad latitude,” she said. “We’ve had respectful students who chose not to stand for the national anthem, and teachers that have given thoughtful answers to questions about Jesus. This year, we’ve also tried to reach out more to our Jewish community by putting the High Holy Days on our school calendar.”
Tewksbury’s representative, Jim Miceli, D-Wilmington, signed on as a co-sponsor of the bill. He said he remembered being an elementary student in Boston at a time when voluntary religious education was part of the school day.
“There was no marginalization of students of different faiths. If you didn’t want to participate, you just stayed in class and did other things,” he said. “This bill makes sense, it doesn’t single out one religion or the other.”
http://www.lowellsun.com/todaysheadlines/ci_13504329#
The bill, which is sponsored by legislators on both sides of the aisle, is the brainchild of the Massachusetts Family Institute, best known for supporting a failed bill to bar same-sex marriage in the state.

Rick Lazio has already announced that he is running for governor.
Rudy has not made an announcement, so whatever you hear is just part of the rumor mill.
I must defend Rudy in his job as mayor. I don’t really care about his wife, or his wife before her, or the one before her. Sure, he made a fool of himself in public in regard to his marital problems. But, anyone who lives in or visits NYC can tell you what an excellent job Rudy did in cleaning up the city. Under Dinkens, one didn’t feel safe even walking down the streets.
As far as the democrats – Patterson is quite unpopular, but he has his defenders now. Since Obama intruded himself into the governor’s race, even those who would never vote for him – like me – are defending Patterson’s right to run without outside interference!
If he steps down, however, his obvious replacement will be Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo – as of now – is way ahead of Hillary in the polls.
We still have a year though. Things can change quickly in politics.

Hugo Chavez thinks he’s a comedian now.
persephone 10.07.09 at 6:43 pm
CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chavez is poking fun at Washington’s misgivings over a possible transfer of nuclear materials between Venezuela and Iran.
During a televised Cabinet meeting Tuesday, Chavez welcomed Mining Minister Rodolfo Sanz as he arrived late and asked, “How’s the uranium for Iran? For the atomic bomb?”
Chavez’s mocking drew snickers from Cabinet members. Sanz grinned.
U.S. State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said recently the United States is worried about the possibility of nuclear transfers between Iran and Venezuela.
