NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – Police say a worker with the activist group ACORN who was caught on video giving advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute had reported the incident to authorities.
National City police said Monday that Juan Carlos Vera contacted his cousin, a police detective, to get advice on what to with information on possible human smuggling.

Vera was secretly filmed on Aug. 18 as part of a young couple’s high-profile expose.

Police say he contacted law enforcement two days later. The detective consulted another police official who served on a federal human smuggling task force, who said he needed more details.

The ACORN employee responded several days later and explained that the information he received was not true and he had been duped. Vera was fired on Thursday.

Regarding “voter lists.” I spent much of the afternoon holding signs for my candidate outside our preliminary election for mayor. While we were outside, two workers collecting signatures for Martha Coakley came by. They were going to all the polling places to get voters and campaign workers to sign the petitions needed to qualify Martha to run for Kennedy’s seat in December. She needs 10,000 signatures.

Some of the jerks alongside me wouldn’t sign, even tho it’s just to qualify her to run! One of them was shamed into signing because he knew the woman collecting signatures. After she left, the two typical blowhards talked about how “annoying” she was and the one who signed admitted he’d signed someone else’s name!

It made me think how carefully Coakley is going to have to vet her lists (and I am going to call her office and report this and warn them) and how this long ongoing poison meme about “voter fraud” probably incites many a rightwinger to sign up bogus names if they run across the evil ACORN workers gathering names.

Demonizing can incite the very same behavior it purports to deplore. But guess what? It will fail in the end. I told the Coakley workers and the jerks next to me, “she will win.”

The one who’d signed the fake name mumbled something about some guy he “would’ve” supported and I said, “no doubt” and moved away from them.

It just never ceases to amaze me. I am getting email about how Obama wants single mothers to go back to school. I have an education. And A job I work hard at. What I need are is equal opportunity employment and pay.

He needs to send his accountants back to school. I was going to look at some more details in the financial reporting but was discouraged by the number of files I was going to have to download. There are 57 of them. But when I went to make a list, it became apparent there were only 18 reports out of the 57 that were valid.

I mean, these people are too stone stupid to know that you do not enter a debit for a returned check if you have not first credited it to the account.

Now the Taliban are mostly gone, driven out by a military operation this summer, and the women of this northern Pakistani city, the largest in the Swat Valley, are returning to public life. Teachers are back at work, maids are commuting to jobs across town and nurses are giving injections without having to squint through a coarse layer of netting.

People here still worry that the war could return anytime. Last month, a suicide bomber killed 15 police officers at the central police station here. But for now, at least, women are feeling steady on their feet, a cautious vote of confidence in security here by society’s most vulnerable.

WASHINGTON — Senate Finance Committee Democrats have rejected a GOP amendment that would have required a health overhaul bill to be available online for 72 hours before the committee votes.
Republicans argued that transparency is an Obama administration goal. They also noted that their constituents are demanding that they read bills before voting.

Democrats said it was a delay tactic that could have postponed a vote for weeks.

The Democrats noted that unlike other committees, the Finance Committee works off conceptual language that describes policies — instead of legislative language that ultimately becomes law, and which the GOP amendment would have required.

Democrats accepted an alternate amendment to make conceptual language available online before a vote.

Baucus also decided to reduce the penalty for families who defy a proposed requirement to purchase coverage, from $3,800 to $1,900.

The IRS says it is severing ties with ACORN, the community activist group involved in a scandal after employees were caught on video giving advice to a couple posing as a prostitute and pimp.

The Internal Revenue Service said Wednesday it would no longer include ACORN in its volunteer tax assistance program. The program offered free tax advice to about 3 million low- and moderate-income tax filers this spring.

The IRS said ACORN, which is short for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, provided help on about 25,000 returns.

The House and Senate voted earlier this month to sever federal funding to ACORN. And the Census Bureau severed its ties with the group for the 2010 national head-count.

I wish there was. What we are trying to do is get the Campaign Finances audited by the FEC. BO evaded the audit by opting for private funding. They can be audited only “for cause” so we are trying to document irregularities in the campaign contributions. It would take a real good audit to get on the trail of the funds you are referring to.

Biden Tells Nervous Seniors Obamacare Won’t Hurt

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Vice President Joe Biden sought to reassure nervous seniors Wednesday that they won’t see cuts in their Medicare benefits if the nation’s health care system is revamped.

“Nobody is going to mess with your benefits. All we do is make it better for people on Medicare,” Biden told about 150 people at Leisure World in suburban Maryland.

President Barack Obama and the White House contend that Medicare benefits won’t be affected even though legislation in Congress would cut payments to Medicare Advantage plans by more than $100 billion over 10 years.

On Tuesday, Congress’ chief budget analyst, Douglas Elmendorf, contradicted the White House, saying seniors in Medicare’s managed care plans could see reduced benefits under a bill in the Senate Finance Committee.

I make no excuses for television…it is the devil. And those who think it’s only the GUYS watching these horrific “reality” shows are mistaken. I host students and young adults in my house all the time. There are soul-gutted young women who watch this vile depravity, too. It’s the flip side of burqas…and mind you, I’m rooting for bikinis and free love to beat the crap out of Islamic “martyrs” looking to rape virgins for eternity.

All I’m saying is that the cancer awareness people are obviously using a controversial tool for a good cause. If we’re going to grind our teeth in anger, we need to back up and fight the MTV reality shows and the entire bridezilla generation. Lay it on the ones where the agenda is to demean or be demeaned.

Worrying about the “save the boobies” campaign is like rushing to close the barn door after the horse is lonnnnnnnnnnnnng gone. Too little, too late.

Senate Finance Committee Democrats have rejected a GOP amendment that would have required a health overhaul bill to be available online for 72 hours before the committee votes.

Republicans argued that transparency is an Obama administration goal. They also noted that their constituents are demanding that they read bills before voting.

My house is fine, although my yard has many mushrooms growing from eight days of rain. I am not near any sources of water and my street sits on the top of a ridge, so no flooding in my immediate area. The closest flooding is about five miles from me. Many areas and neighborhoods are totally devastated.

Some places in Marietta (Cobb county) got 18 inches of rain in 24 hours. All the schools in Cobb county were closed yesterday and today. Yesterday in this county there were 240 roads closed but today only 80 roads were still closed.

I think a neighboring county, Douglas, got it the worst. They have 137 roads that are impassable because sections of road or bridges were washed away.
