Was listening to On Point with Tom Ashbrooke this morning on WBUR (my local NPR station), ruining an otherwise glorious drive along a Great Metrowest country road in late September. Why do we do things that cause us emotional and mental pain? Willfully agreeing to jeopardize our long-term health and general well-being?

What jackasses these jokers are. Katrina vanden Heuvel and Jack Beatty are unmitigated SNOBS and have pretty much ZERO idea of what our government is and how it’s supposed to operate. When the people govern themselves Jack and Kat it can get a bit, erm, messy. I think they honestly believe only people who have graduated from good colleges should be allowed to vote.

It’s reverse fascism. Or something. Maybe it’s “The Fascism of Good Intentions.” Hey, I like that idea — that would make a great debate topic among some super smart historian/legal/political types. Too bad all of the smart historian/legal/political types subscribe with their whole hearts and minds to the Prescribed System of Thinking for Well Intentioned Thoughtful Liberls.

Oy vey.

Meanwhile, the “president” of Iran is saying the Holocaust was made up to provide an “excuse” to set up a Jewish state in Palestine; disagreeing with the president’s policies makes you a racist; and anyone who criticizes the government or supports the Second Amendment is as bad as Lee Harvey Oswald or Sirhan Sirhan.

Also, what about this new move in Turkey to encourage families to force their daughters into “honor suicides” in order to avoid the stigma which attaches to “honor killings” so that Turkey can increase its chances of being admitted to the European Union?

Oy vey.

Anyways, for a heartwarming love story, read THIS. True, romantic love. A woman who respects her background, loves her parents, and wants to honor them. Lovely. Then read the comments. Holy smokes.

If, after reading the article and the comments you still don’t understand how it is possible for us to hate Islam but love muslim women, then you are too fucking stupid to read this blog and I invite you to please go away.

If, after watching the video of the boy being beat into submission on the school bus you still don’t understand how it is possible for us to know that hatred of white people played a part in the thug’s attack and the crowd’s support but that knowing this and hating it does NOT make us racists, then you are too fucking stupid to read this blog and I invite you to please go away.

If, after 15 months of daily posts, essays, articles, actions, and everything else, you still don’t understand that we really, truly, deeply DISAGREE about lots of things in this world and that there is no Book of Righteousness out there in which you and your “Right Way of Thinking” is described, but that our responsibility as citizens is to work together to maintain and exercise the power of the people, then you are really fucking stupid, but I hope you will continue to read this blog.

my favorite part?
“If we ever get a little too oaty with our feminism here and start fantasizing that society has fundamentally evolved since, say, 1966, all we need to do is listen to this song. In it, Beyonce tells her former owner that since he didn’t “put a ring on it,” he’s got no business complaining if another brother wishes to take a turn owning (or possibly renting or just test-driving) “it.” What “it” wants, apparently, is an owner who will deliver it to “a destiny, to infinity and beyond.” Then it puts the lotion in the basket and the ghost of Laura Nyro comes on and sings about wedding bells. Progress.”

I read your great post after having a conversation with my daughter about all the crap out there her child is exposed to on a daily basis! It is even in SCHOOL! She then said but Mom I give him values that you gave me and show him love and affection that we as a family shared with you and Dad, and I do in my home as well. And I feel that I am a good person,
she said..
Well wow I am crying……
I said you were raised in the 70ties and 80ties a whole different culture…….the world is a cesspool now.

Wow! Great post, Murphy. My favorite part “…our responsibility as citizens is to work together to maintain and exercise the power of the people.” Awoman, Murphy. Awoman! While many of us in the middle have been trying to do exactly that, we’ve had to contend with the RW wackadoos trying to co-opt us and drown us out, while the PSOTFWITL (“Prescribed System of Thinking for Well Intentioned Thoughtful Liberls”) attempted to demean and marginalize us, as we’ve tried time and again to speak out against corruption, fraud, lies, thuggery and outright tyranny (including the theft of the D primary and the general election by BO and his D cronies, the DNC RBC, and ACORN, which trampled the sanctity of the individual vote — a central premise of our democracy). I think the PSOTFWITL includes the media formerly known as mainstream. I think I may just start calling them all the TWITS (Thinking for Well Intentioned Thoughtful Liberals) for short. Anyway, I absolutely agree with your entire post, Murphy. Thank you!

MOVEON.ORG’S 11TH Birthday

What do you get the group that has everything? A petition, of course.

September 18, 2009, marks the 11th anniversary since the founding of MoveOn.org. Help us blow out the candles on this radical group for all they’ve done to drive American politics into the gutter. For 11 long years, they have repeatedly been THE source of embarrassment in our political system.

Glenn Beck, devoted to hyperbole as he is, drew an interesting parallel between the white people at the top of ACORN and its lackeys at the bottom of the agency – comparing it to a plantation. I honestly think he could have applied this parallel to the faux-Democratic Party. The white power-brokers at the top seem to be counting on “our negroes” to riot on cue. The implication that African Americans are this easily led is reprehensible and the ongoing promotion of racial, class, gender and age conflicts is, in my mind, treason. Most people of all races, classes, creeds just want to live in peace.

BTW, “The Fascism of Good Intentions” is a book that needs to be written, the book you have in you, Murphy. I just question whether anyone in government has good intentions at this point. Unless a civil war is their method of decreasing the “carbon footprint”.

Social issues are never one-sided. They are just reported to us this way to place the blame somewhere specific instead of all over the place. The media would have people believing that the only group for which racism occurs is that against African Americans. It is just in no way realistic of what truly goes on. I feel bad for the boy on the school bus because I know that he is just one instance of many. It goes on more than the media wants us to know, and not just with children. It is as bad as claiming that there are no homeless in America, or no children in America in need of adoption. Just. Not. True.

New Ads Caution Washington Not to Tax Hard-Working Families

Strength of Coalition Demonstrates Concern about Slippery Slope on Grocery Taxes

WASHINGTON – Americans Against Food Taxes (AAFT) is releasing two new ads this week that caution Washington policy-makers against raising grocery costs on middle-class families by taxing their juice drinks and soda, as well as demonstrating the strength of a diverse coalition concerned about a slippery slope once government reaches into the grocery cart with new taxes.
Picking up from the focus on middle-class families in ads the coalition ran this summer, AAFT’s next execution in the campaign is a television ad featuring a mother with her family reminding Washington that pennies add up for hard-working families struggling through a recession.

The mother expresses concern about the negative impact of a tax. “Families around here are counting pennies to get through this economy. So when we hear about another tax it gets our attention.” She continues: “They say it’s only pennies. Well, those pennies add up when you’re trying to feed a family. Washington, if you’re listening, what doesn’t seem like much to you can be a lot to us.”

Yes, I didn’t have a problem with MoveOn before all this either. Then Hillary “leaked” her criticism of moveon, and how they were busing in people for the caucus sites and intimidating people. (I am not sure that was a 100% down low recording, I always thought she knew it would be leaked so people (we) would KNOW what happened for sure. But that’s just me.)

OMG, I just realized the boys at Hillbuzz were probably in a tizzy of joy over the tribulations of ACORN (an org they HAAAATE with the burning passion of ten thousand suns) so I went over to check it out and was catching up on the posts, when i came across this one from Sept. 11:

http://hillbuzz.org/2009/09/11/september-11th-2009-lionel-and-jane-sent-us/

It’s about a black man who died of AIDS and an Asisan woman who died in the WWTC on 9/11. Is the author a racist?

You decide.

I found myself alternating between sobbing and laughing hysterically. Hillbuzz is obviously an extremely talented writer, but so much more than spinning a great yarn in this piece, he shows how absurd the very concept of racism has become.

I KNOW!! These two kids cracked the stupid nut. MEANWHILE, bloggers and researchers were breaking their backs looking up info on ACORN and trying everything to bring light to the situation for sooo long. Now, maybe the information will get a second look because others will be searching ACORN online to learn more. Some will probably wind up at puma pac’s “Investigating ACORN” forum.

These kids succeeded because of the whole “sex sells” thing. It’s like, a politician not paying millions in taxes is dry and boring, but if he has an affair all hell breaks loose.

omg, it was the worst back then…remember when Hillary had a bold post–that box–on the front page of her website: “IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS [voting, getting into] AT POLLING SITES–TELL US.” Or “IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION…” …it was maddening. Meanwhile the news was still Obama-mania and showing Oblow with halos around his head and 24/7 mega church rally coverage of “Yes We Can” lunacy…and the media would show just little bits of Hillary’s rallies and cut her off…sigh. I was an aggressive Hillary Rapid Responder, so I was trying to get the caucus info and everything else out non-stop. Very powerless feeling, back when the media truly was like 90% positive for O. Scary too, especially the obots, believing everything in the media and every lie Obama told–chanting and becoming so obsessive w/ their Hillary hatred and Obama’s cult of personality. It was like watching millions of Americans become posessed. Scary shit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality

You know I really don’t know who the WH thinks they are kidding.
They send Michelle out to lecture “female advocacy leaders” on the importance of supporting Obama’s plan because healthcare is a ‘women’s issue”. This is the same Obama that made clear in his famous healthcare speech that he would make sure that women’s reproductive health would not be covered by government policies. WTF He really expects ‘feminists’ to rally around once again and carry our “feminist president” through another minefield. It is not enough that feeble-minded women voted him in, now women are expected to do the heavy lifting to support a bill that leaves American women woefully unprotected. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/09/18/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry5320221.shtml?tag=cbsContent;cbsCarousel

2. Bo, the dog ..they named his groomer and talked about how on his leash is I heart Obama.

3. How Michelle is have town halls talking to women about healthcare reform because women are usually the ones that take care of making the appointments and choosing the doctors.

Oh, the first story was they did finally capture an escaped fugitive who carjacked a women’s car this morning, robbed a bank, then they finally caught him. The US MARSHALLS are taking custody of them, and stated that when we transport a fugitive they do not get away.

Because of you, I have a place to put this article, who shows how incredibly out of touch the WH is these days.

Let’s say you’re preparing dinner and you realize with dismay that you don’t have any certified organic Tuscan kale. What to do? Here’s how Michelle Obama handled this very predicament Thursday afternoon: The Secret Service and the D.C. police brought in three dozen vehicles and shut down H Street, Vermont Avenue, two lanes of I Street and an entrance to the McPherson Square Metro station. They swept the area, in front of the Department of Veterans Affairs, with bomb-sniffing dogs and installed magnetometers in the middle of the street, put up barricades to keep pedestrians out, and took positions with binoculars atop trucks. Though the produce stand was only a block or so from the White House, the first lady hopped into her armored limousine and pulled into the market amid the wail of sirens….

Malaysian court orders Muslim lovers caned for sex
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — An Islamic court has ordered an unmarried couple to be caned for trying to have sex in a car in the latest of a series of harsh punishments for Muslims in Malaysia, a lawyer said Friday.

Though Malaysia has long been upheld as an example of a moderate Muslim-majority country, recent verdicts sentencing Muslims to whipping for drinking alcohol have made headlines. Two months ago, an Islamic judge triggered a national debate when he ordered a woman to be caned for drinking beer.

87% of Employers to Reduce Benefits if Health Care Reform Increases Costs

Among the full survey group, employers expect they would respond to a pay-or-play mandate in the following ways:

37% of employers would provide company-sponsored health coverage that substantially exceeds the standard.

29% of employers would discontinue company-sponsored health coverage and pay the assessment if the per-employee costs of payments to the federal government were substantially lower than their current costs.

26% of employers would provide company-sponsored health coverage at the level of the minimum standard required.

ACORN to Review Incidents

White House Joins Criticism Over Hidden-Camera Videos

Bertha Lewis, ACORN’S chief executive, will have a meeting of an advisory council.

The Council includes many prominent Democrats, including the man who helped President Obama Transition Team, John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress; former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend; Andrew Stern, International President of the Service Employees International Union; and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros.

“I believe an organization that’s performing a public function should be transparent about how it uses government funds,” Cisneros said, noting that he still supports the group.

SAN ANTONIO — A grandson of Mexican immigrants and a former mayor of this town, Henry G. Cisneros has spent years trying to make the dream of homeownership come true for low-income families.

Ex-SEIU Boss Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Molestation, Porn

SACRAMENTO, CA – A former union official and California Department of Insurance employee was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years in prison after entering no contest pleas to charges of child molestation, possession of child pornography, and manufacturing child pornography.

Jaime Enrique Feliciano, who served as a chapter president of Service Employees International Union Local 1000, which represents thousands of Sacramento-area state workers, had previous convictions for child molestation and failure to register as a sex offender.

In September 2008, investigators with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation into Feliciano following a tip. Deputy District Attorney Lani Biafore said detectives recovered thousands of images of child pornography from Feliciano’s computers, as well as images of him molesting a young girl.

Biafore said Feliciano persuaded the girl and her mother to not report the crimes.

Sacramento County sheriff’s investigators later identified the victim, who told authorities that Feliciano had molested her on numerous occasions.

New DNC Obama Ad: Get “Fired Up” and “Ready To Go” About No Public Option

President Obama has been desperate to ditch the public option for weeks. Max Baucus did the job he thought he was supposed to do — memorialize the deals that the White House cut with health care industry stakeholders. He left it to the White House to sell it, and now they have to.
But every time they tried to jettison the public option through surrogates like Kathleen Sebelius or “senior White House officials” speaking anonymously to media outlets, the base went haywire and Obama’s poll numbers started tanking.
Well, now that Baucus has delivered his stenography, gotta get the base on board with the “goody bag” of benefits — which basically means whatever was left over after Rahm Emanuel got done auctioning off the rest to the medical industrial complex.
So the new DNC ad fires up the “base” by trying to rally them around hatred of teabaggers:

Because hatred of teabaggers will, I guess, mean that nobody notices that Obama makes no mention of a public option in the ad:

However, agree with the stereotypical statement. Forgive me mom’s everywhere… also very superficial. I see some basic very good principals but the way they are explained or the examples the author used made it seem very “me” oriented..

Finally, you made an excellent point… if there is a husband in play… why is he not part of the formula for the 6 friends?
Hmmmm… sadly he is lacking in the article and he should be part of the lifeline used… seems to make the article more stereotypical because he is missing.

Like you are peering into another’s grandiose delusion of self-importance and greatness? It’s like eavesdropping on a strange land of law makers, those who have somehow mandated themselves to be the omnipotent Observers and Judges of all the blogosphere and beyond. Weird. Lots of transformative…*falling in line* over there. New “obot” *word* mandate—GAVEL-SLAM. (lol)

It’s like, just give up already—you are basic democrats like.everyone.else. Quit the faux angst and just accept that you are over the injustices of the primaries and all of it, and just accept THAT, and move on into your ordinary non-radical/ uninteresting/ average, regular American democratic life—be like everyone else…just like those who have NO idea what happened in 2008. I will say I think they use any opportunity to slam pumas though. You know like, pay no attention to our track record … We really won’t throw you under any busses after we’ve taken you for all you’re worth.

I love the part where they equate the sexist “undercurrent” ( undercurrent my off white ass! Morons.) at kos, and his ilk to racist undercurrents at puma sites. Another way to gain favor (read: traffic) with teh boiz. “See? We call Pumas racist too. Do you love us now?”

They need to take lessons from Cinie… Then again, is integrity teachable at this late date in life?

Swannie 09.19.09 at 10:18 am

Prplevette you just nailed it !!! HYPOCRISY
Democrats DEFENDING ACORN as NOT SO BAD is like saying the guy who kept that girl captive in his backyard for 18 years and fathered two children by her is not so bad because he was a volunteer fireman in his community or some such nonsense…
those Acorn workers did not even blink about underage girls being sex slaves… WHO KNOWS how many they have already enabled , at the very least we need a thorough investigation and charges brought where necessary , not to mention no more taxpayer funding .

HYPOCRISY Democrats pretending they did not send all those lawyers and investigators to Alaska to take Sarah Palin down by digging up any kind of bullcrap on her and inflating and conflating it to distort her image and message… but defending Acorn by saying the investigators have right wing affiliations .. yet another tactic avoid the truth by accusing the investigators.. NANCY PELOSI choking up about violence that might happen after SHE called people nazis and astroturfers .. the HYPOCRISY goes on and on ..

Swannie,
O’fraud is going on EVERY Sunday morning show tomorrow EXCEPT Fox News. They turned Fox down. Fox will be interviewing the CEO of ACORN tomorrow morning. They are asking for viewer questions. I sure do hope they bring up the connection of o’fraud, and the busing in of voters from other states during the election, not just the money aspect of acorn. I hope they put the link between o’fraud and acorn’s strong ties, past and present. I emailed them, several times :)

Michael Capuano pounces on rivals

Says he ‘closely mirrors’ Ted Kennedy

With U.S. Rep. Barney Frank as his attack dog sidekick, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano came out swinging at his opponents in the race for the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s vacant seat, accusing Attorney General Martha Coakley of being timid and blasting businessman Stephen Pagliuca for supporting Republicans.

Capuano addressed his vote to support funding for ACORN, a controversial community organization that allegedly tried to doctor tax documents for a couple posing as a pimp and a hooker.
“What happened was horrendous and they should face a serious and deep investigation. But that doesn’t necessarily on its face indict the entire organization,” Capuano said.

Since when is the US a Christian nation?
If the arguement is Christians are a majority in this country, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, so that argument is going to work against you.

Last I heard is the founding men wanted Protestantism tone the official relgion of the US, but after much lobbying, that idea was shot down with the compromise of leaving it up to individual states. Maryland declared itself Catholic, Pennsylvania Quaker, etc.

San Diego ACORN worker fired following sting
AP

ACORN officials in San Diego have fired an employee caught on video providing advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute.

David Lagstein, the group’s head organizer in San Diego, initially said Thursday that he believed Juan Carlos Vera did his best to deal with a challenging situation and would not be disciplined.

But three hours later, Lagstein reversed that decision.

He said he reevaluated the videos posted online in which Vera was secretly filmed answering questions about smuggling people into the U.S. through Tijuana. Lagstein said after further discussion with supervisors and state ACORN officials he decided Vera’s conduct was “unacceptable.”

Earlier Thursday the House followed the Senate’s lead in denying all federal funding for the scandal-tainted community organizing group.

I HAVE AN EASY, QUICK PROWL WHERE YOU CAN VOTE TO INDUCT ALICE PAUL to the NEW JERSEY HALL of FAME, AND OTHER WOMEN TOO! IT TOOK ME LESS THAN A MINUTE!

I received the following email and I was told I could vote, even if I lived in California!
——————————————————————

CAST A VOTE FOR ALICE PAUL ON THE NEW JERSEY HALL OF FAME WEBSITE http://www.njhalloffame.org/! The New Jersey Hall of Fame today announced its 2010 nominees, including our girl, Alice Stokes Paul. The public can vote at NJHallofFame.org from the list of 30 nominees rolled out today for the 3rd edition of the New Jersey Hall of Fame. The choices — 17 of whom are being nominated posthumously — emerged today from a pool of 200 and are coupled in groups of six under such categories as “historical,” “sports,” and “arts and entertainment.” The New Jersey Hall of Fame, a non-profit set up by law in 2005, is intended to hold up role models and inspire schoolchildren and enlists panels of experts to weigh in on the nominees, who face a vote on NJHallof Fame.org through Nov. 20. The winners are to be announced later this fall. So, cast your vote now and let’s make sure that Alice Paul gets her name in the 2010 New Jersey Hall of Fame. Let us know when you cast your vote!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ive read cinie’s piece, and i have posted my feelings there.
Cinie is a diehard democrat, period, she hates anyone who smells
or even comes close to being, seeming or behaving as one. She was a strong puma and wanted hillary, now to me, it just seems she is stuck on black and white and pure hate for repubs, i really dont care who people hate, but just to ignore something in your face by pointing to the little pimp boy and girl reminds me of how obama handles things, period. Point that finger and you will appear to be great by showing the dark side of the other side, hell, it’s hard as hell to find a side these days, cause i aint supporting much of anything it seems these days.
169
DancesWithPumas 09.19.09 at 12:34 pm
I appreciated Cinie’s research on the back story of teh political affiliations / associations of the journalist and filmmaker.
I won’t discount the expose film base on those affiliations though. If my my home is on fire, I don’t necessarily care who called the fire dept.
As far as “Cinie is a diehard democrat, period,”, who do you think started PUMA?
I’m a diehard Democrat as well, not in terms of the party in its current manifestation, but in terms of the principles I believed it represented. I still hold those principles, no matter what kind of freaks are at the top… in the same way that I hold to Puma goals (as stated in the Mission Statement) no matter how many republicans / rightwing nuts call themselves Pumas. Democrats in the party, nor republican Pumas (mutually exclusive terms) define me.
170
sistermoon3 09.19.09 at 12:42 pm
and guess what dances, acorn played a huge roll in making damned sure hillary was not the choice…so, it doesnt really matter what kind of nuts people are rightwing nuts or acorn nuts does it now
if it walks like a nut and looks like a nut it must be a nut, and baby we have all got nuts.
171
DancesWithPumas 09.19.09 at 12:43 pm
PS I also appreciate Cinie’s take on b/w.
I don’t necessarily agree with all of her posts, or various statements/conclusions therein, but I trust her (as much as anyone can trust someone via this medium) in terms of personal integrity and intention.
If nothing else it broadens my perspective and presents other points to consider.
SODA THE NEW TOBACCO
Calling soda the new tobacco, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom will introduce legislation this fall that would charge a fee to retailers that sell sugary beverages.
Newsom would need voter approval to tax individual cans of soda and sugary juice, but only needs approval from the Board of Supervisors to levy a fee on retailers. His legislation would charge grocery stores like Safeway and big-box stores, but would not affect restaurants that serve sodas.
Newsom said he was particularly motivated to move forward with the legislation by Thursday’s release of a UCLA study showing a link between soda and obesity in California. Researchers found that adults who drink at least one soft drink a day are 27 percent more likely to be obese than those who don’t – and that soda consumption is fueling the state’s $41 billion annual obesity problem.
In recent years, city officials have banned the sale of cigarettes in pharmacies, added a fee to packs of cigarettes, required chain restaurants to display calories and fat content on menus, and created a program to recognize restaurants that don’t serve trans fats.
Terror Suspect’s Computer Said to Show Sports Stadiums, Fashion Sites
Officials Report Denver Man Sent Texts Suggesting Attack Coming; ‘Wedding Cake’ Is Ready
A computer belonging to alleged al Qaeda suspect Najibullah Zazi showed he had researched baseball and football stadiums and sites used in the recent Fashion Week event in New York City, law enforcement officials tell ABCNews.com.
After first denying any ties to al Qaeda, Zazi has now admitted certain ties developed during trips to Pakistan, law enforcement officials told ABCNews.com.
A recipe for homemade explosives found on Zazi’s computer would have produced a bomb of the same size and type used in London, authorities said.
A friend sent this to me -
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.
That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”.
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
The White House move could give them cover to abandon Mr. Paterson and endorse another candidate, most likely Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo, who has been debating for months whether to take on Mr. Paterson in a primary.
ACORNs stay on branch
Gov. Paterson yesterday moved to put a 30-day hold on all state contracts with ACORN.
New York ACORN’s president, Pat Boone, said: “We welcome the governor’s review and are confident he will find that every state dollar we’ve received went directly to combating New York’s foreclosure crisis” and helping New Yorkers get tax credits.
Going apple picking and a winery tour this beautiful day in the Great Metro West………..Very intersting info on the farm web site.
————————
From a farming point of view, 2008 was a difficult economic year for Nashoba Valley and many other farms in Massachusetts. For Nashoba, hail in August destroyed approximately 60 percent of our crop. We were very fortunate to have very loyal and understanding customers who still came to our farm and purchased less than perfect apples. Their support allowed us to survive an otherwise horrific situation.
Throughout 2009 we hope that you will still consider a gift of Nashoba Valley as every purchase helps sustain a local farm. According to the USDA, the U.S. has lost over five million farms since 1935. Family farms are going out of business at break-neck speed, causing rural communities to deteriorate. The U.S. loses two acres of farmland each minute as cities and suburbs spread into the surrounding communities. By supporting local farms near suburban areas and around cities, you help keep farmers on the land, and, at the same time, preserve open spaces and counteract urban sprawl.
Out Sincerest Wishes,
Richard Pelletier and the staff of Nashoba Valley
Obama Said to Request That Paterson Drop Campaign
By RAYMOND HERNANDEZ and JEFF ZELENY
The move against the unpopular Gov. David A. Paterson represents an extraordinary intervention into a state political race by the president.
WASHINGTON — President Obama has sent a request to Gov. David A. Paterson that he withdraw from the New York governor’s race, fearing that Mr. Paterson cannot recover from his dismal political standing, according to two senior administration officials and a New York Democratic operative with direct knowledge of the situation.
The decision to ask Mr. Paterson to step aside was proposed by political advisers to Mr. Obama, but approved by the president himself, one of the administration officials said.
The food stamp recipient sells the stamps for cash, mostly for drugs and alcohol. This was a big one, a grocer buying them at 65 cents on the dollar, then getting full value for them from the government. I am sure it goes on everywhere.
(doubt it) I feel like going over there to see what’s up.
And funny thing about O telling Paterson to go away. I guess O wants Cuomo to run and win. Rumors are Giuliani might run.
Thing is, Paterson just endorsed Thompson who is running for mayor against Bloomberg, and that doesn’t look very good for Thompson. Perhaps O wants to help Bloomberg too.
I watched Bertha Lewis interview and it was appalling.
Bertha Lewis, CEO / Chief Organizer, ACORN appeared with Rep. Darrell Issa, (R) California / Ranking Member, Oversight and Government Reform Committee. They were interviewed by Chris Wallace, the host of FOX News Sunday.
What was most interesting to me was that she absolutely refused to answer any questions and kept saying “we have an obligation to the poor.” It is a classic defense and watching it and fearing that anyone would buy it was very scary to me.
Congressman asked her if she would open ACORN’s books so that Congress could see
1. if they were funneling funds given for one purpose such as housing counseling into voter (fraud) registration in violation of the law – my words not his
2. if they were funneling funds given for one purpose into another in violation of the grant rules
3. etc. more of the same.
What’s wrong with being poor? I have been super poor in my adult life and in my childhood my mother struggled raising 4 kids while my dad was an asshole holding off on child support.
People make choices / decisions in their life that lead to them being poor. Or shit happens. It’s not a terrible thing to be poor.
I am no longer poor. However, I still make decisions to ensure I am not poor because I like buying my gadgets and traveling and doing the things I love to do. Can’t do that if I am poor.
How does Acorn help the poor? By telling them to cheat on their taxes? If you’re poor you don’t pay a lot of taxes. So how are they helping? By giving them an office job?
ACORN has to go down in flames big time. OTHER decent and honest organizations can help poor people with housing/ getting out the vote. NOT these entrenched people, but then these people would probably just go work for the next fakey clean front group/ same type of group. They have been using different organization names as fronts for dem politicians to funnel their money into for their voter fraud crap. Ya, Rathke is the body of octopus, and the arms are SEIU, ACORN, Project Vote, Citizen Action/ Citizen Services, The New Party, etc etc etc etc–more unions.
Who knows how high this goes. You get some kids to get as many people (real or not) to sign up to register to vote. Then you have people on the inside at the board of elections and also at voting sites…you have the same people vote over and over again with the different registrations and everyone looks the other away. This garbage runs deep. And it’s EASY.
Pissed Gillibrand voted to keep funding them, cause even if she doesn’t necessarily think they will stay afloat and help her election (which they WILL, now)–it at least proved to me that she owes them. sigh. And ya know, ACORN is allied to every democratic organization. So THEN…ya gotta think…who IS clean? Are they all like this? Is this JUST politics and it’s ALWAYS been this way and always will be? (Likely)
I just want them shut down and audited and for Obama’s deeper connection to ACORN to be in the MSM. I don’t think anyone can stop the same things from happening again, or get ACORN to not morph into what it once was all over again just under yet another name. Politics is so dirty…can’t trust anybody.
274
MamaPuma 09.20.09 at 1:43 pm
My question is this. Blacks in American want to have special privileges because their ancestors (that were here 160 years ago)were enslaved. The Irish were enslaved by the English for thousands of years. That makes me a person who abhors slavery and cares very much about slavery that went on here, that went on other places and that goes on now.
How come none of the ACORN workers and all of the ones that I saw were minorities were not incensed, appalled and apoplectic about sex-slavery? I don’t get the lack of identification and lack of a need to protect young girls. It shocks me.
88 Third Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11217
United States of America
A workplace sexual harassment and sex discrimination outreach and education project. We operate a toll free helpline, offer informational forums where women who are experiencing harassment or discrimination at work can educate themselves on their options and we conduct educational workshops on sexual harassment.
This Dem rep Gregory Meeks. I am wondering if he is related to a Chicago preacher James Meeks, he was heavily involved in o’fraud’s campaign. I will have to check this out.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2009/09/20/aides-obama-urged-paterson-reconsider-ny-gov-race/
The Obama administration on Sunday flatly denied that the president intervened in New York state politics and urged Gov. David Paterson to withdraw from the 2010 governor’s race.
“President Obama is not involved in any way,” a senior administration official told FOX News.
The pushback came after The New York Times reported that Obama asked Paterson, a Democrat, to drop out over concern that he is damaged goods, politically, and could drag down other Democrats in the state. The Times quoted administration officials as saying the president’s request was conveyed to Paterson by Queens Democratic Rep. Gregory Meeks.
I am at a loss. Why are girls expendable?
————————–
Because we live in a patriarchy, where men value males as complete human beings… the rest of us, women and girls, are segmented in terms of our usefulness to males.
289
DancesWithPumas 09.20.09 at 2:08 pm
By the way Dances,
I thought you were one of the San Diego “girls” that was going to work in the brothel – not you were part of the film making.
Now, I know you didnt say this and I am just hallucinating.
Mama,
Girls are not expendable here (Mostly)… Girls are expendable in many 3rd world countries. Doesn’t make it right but many people just shrug and go on because if these foreign countries don’t step in and fix it why should they get involved.
It is a very sad commentary on society as a whole and something that many of us here are trying to change.
It is shocking and we should all be shocked and offended but how many of the congresscritters said anything about investigating the sex-slavery problem that exsists here in the US as opposed to just focusing on Acorn to try and take down “O”…. hmmmm I think I hear silence in the Capital on this issue… :::crickets:::
Girls are “seen” as expendable here….
as long as it is done out of the spot light, and behind closed doors, and kept out of the majority view. Once brought to the spot light, well then that is a different story, one MUST “show” outrage and must condemn it for the wrong that it is, while quietly reprimanding those that allowed it to be exposed to the light of day, not for actually doing it, but rather for allowing it to be exposed.
Kinda like Ozero will be about Acorn in the neer future.
298
Zee 09.20.09 at 2:25 pm
Oh, dang, Dances….it looks as if you’ve been fighting the good fight all alone here. I guess I’ll have to go read Cinie’s piece, and if there is one thing I hate more than having my eyes glaze over at the long-time Republican rag doll of ACORN dragged out and chewed on, it’s having to read up on the latest bogus talking points. (And sistermoon, you might try bashing Dems for “hating” Republicans on a Republican site where it will be better received.) I disagree that this manufactured “outrage” is a good thing because “maybe” ACORN’s role in the primary as regards to Obama will be investigated. You know it won’t.
Why? Because it’s apples and oranges. If you really wanted to focus on ACORN’s role in the primary then right now you would be cringing and cursing the dingbats who trumped up this DISTRACTION of a NONSTORY.
To tell the truth alllllllllllllll that work trying to prove that “Mickey Mouse” was in any way “proof” of voter fraud was what VERY successfully derailed the power of PUMApac when there was ample proof of caucus fraud that should’ve remained the focus but which was instead dropped in favor for this long term bogus rightwing distraction.
People. A majority of high school kids in the U.S. can’t tell you who was the first president of the U.S. Now you want to pretend that a few dingbats who gave advice to two obvious pranksters are indicative of the intent of an entire organization? Please.
An organization which, btw, doesn’t get the majority of its funding from the gummint, so all this posturing by the politicians won’t make one whit of a difference.
Lose-lose of a focus.
I wonder if Gregory Meeks is a relative of a Chicago preacher James Meeks of Salem Baptist Church? I am checking this out. James Meeks was heavily involved in o’frauds campaign.
http://www.chicagopride.com/news/article.cfm/articleid/5603104
When Obama ran for the U.S. Senate in 2003, he frequently campaigned at Salem Baptist Church while Rev. Meeks appeared in television ads supporting the Illinois senator’s campaign. Later, according to the same Chicago Sun Times article, on the night after he won the Democratic primary, Sen. Obama attended bible study at Meeks’ church ‘for prayer’ and ‘to say thank you.
Since that time, not only has Meeks himself served on Obama’s exploratory committee for the presidency and been listed on the Obama’s campaign website as one of the senator’s ‘influential black supporters’, but his church choir was called on to raise their voices in praise at a rally the night Obama announced his run for the White House back in 2007.
Interestingly, the Chicago Sun Times has also reported that both Meeks and Obama share a history of substantial campaign contributions from indicted real estate magnate Tony Rezko.
“We don’t have slave masters, we got mayors,” exclaimed James Meeks, an Illinois state senator and pastor of one of the largest churches in the state, in an August, 2006 sermon broadcast on a Chicago community television channel.
Obama, Stephanopoulos Spar (More gray hair…)
President Obama and ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos got in a testy sparring match Sunday over whether the president’s health care plan includes a tax increase, leading the host to look up the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of taxes.
In the interview airing Sunday, Stephanopoulos pressed the president on his plan to require people to purchase health insurance.
“Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you if you don’t. How is that not a tax?” the host asked.
Obama responded: ” No, but — but, George, you — you can’t just make up that language and decide that that’s called a tax increase.”
Stephanopoulos then offered the dictionary definition.
“I don’t think I’m making it up. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary: ‘Tax, a charge, usually of money, imposed by authority on persons or property for public purposes,’” he said.
Visibly taken aback, Obama rejected the notion it was a tax increase and said pulling the dictionary out was a sign the host was “stretching” a little.
“No. That — that’s not true, George. The — for us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” Obama said.
Media Matters: Fox News’ incomplete, misleading ACORN coverage is just nuts
September 18, 2009
If you get your news from right-wing talk radio and Fox News, you probably think America is being overrun by a hyper-corrupt organized prostitution ring headquartered in the White House.
In case you missed this story: Two conservative activists… visited a host of ACORN offices around the country posing as a pimp and prostitute…They had a surveillance camera and recorded at least four interactions with ACORN employees and claimed these employees provided them with assistance. All of the employees implicated have now been fired, and federal aid to ACORN has been cut off.
Still, the story at this point really has a lot more to do with Fox News and conservative media activism than with ACORN. The undercover videos first appeared on BigGovernment.com, founded by Andrew Breitbart, a protégé of Matt Drudge and a conservative with a long record of highly partisan and inflammatory statements. Giles, daughter of conservative blogger Doug Giles, attended the National Journalism Center in Washington, one of the many right-wing institutions conservatives have established to flood the field with young, motivated, and rabidly partisan “reporters.” For his part, O’Keefe has been a far-right activist since college.
Breitbart has developed a direct line to Glenn Beck, and so it wasn’t long before the videos were being presented breathlessly on his TV and radio programs….It was just the beginning….Radio host Jim Quinn said that we were all living in the “United States of ACORN,” and Fox News’ Megyn Kelly had Karl Rove on to talk about the tapes exposing what was now a “remarkable criminal enterprise.” The stakes couldn’t be higher. ACORN, after all, was on tap to receive “eight and a half trillion dollars of stimulus money,” according to Sean Hannity — a number that was a thousand times greater than the equally fictitious billions that Beck had accorded to the organization on behalf of the government. ACORN had suddenly ballooned from an organization which had received $53 million in federal funds over 15 years to representing 67 percent of America’s gross domestic product.
Fox was running so wild with the story that they were willing to lower their already dubious standards….Four videos were being promoted as unimpeachable proof that all of ACORN is equally corrupt — all 1,200 chapters and hundreds of ACORN employees. It was the opposite of how a credible investigation is supposed to function, in which conclusions are withheld until after all the facts are in. By comparison, here, the conservative media had a few isolated facts but were willing to extrapolate an entire thesis from them.
More important, Fox News failed to vet the tapes. This was made painfully clear with the case of the San Bernardino ACORN office…In the footage, ACORN employee Tresa Kaelke claimed that she had murdered her former husband following a period of domestic abuse. On September 15, Beck and Sean Hannity both broadcast Kaelke’s assertion….Later that night, Hannity …in a rare moment of intellectual curiosity, asked about the veracity of the murder claim. “We’re working on it,” Giles said, which was enough for Hannity. The following morning, on September 16, Fox News’ Gretchen Carlson repeated the allegation, saying, “She killed somebody? Despite this, some lawmakers want to keep funding the group.”
But Kaelke’s ex-husbands are alive. The San Bernardino Police Department confirmed this simple fact on September 15…(Kaelke was soon quoted in an ACORN press release saying that she had made the claim because she was seeking to mislead the undercover videographers, whom she was suspicious of.) In spite of these developments, the next day, Hannity was still treating the San Bernardino tape as fully credible…
In the meantime, another pivotal hole in the story began to present itself. During interviews, Breitbart, Giles, and O’Keefe had all asserted that the undercover team had never been kicked out of an ACORN office. Bertha Lewis, ACORN’s CEO and chief organizer, had already said this was a falsehood by the time a Philadelphia ACORN employee, Katherine Conway Russell, publicly claimed to have done just that, adding that she had filed a police report after a visit from the conservative pair. The police report was soon produced, raising further serious questions about the credibility of the entire ACORN exposé. It was another major side of the story that Fox News simply hadn’t cared to look into.
On the offense, Breitbart has lashed out at the mainstream media for supposedly burying the story….Their real failure was discussing the ACORN issue on Fox News’ terms and ignoring the network’s role in pushing the smears.
The New York Times covered up conservatives’ well-documented ACORN obsession in its reporting… all three network evening news broadcasts…left out substantive facts about the incidents that mitigate the accusations, exonerate ACORN employees, or undermine the credibility of the filmmakers. Moreover, none reported that Fox News, in its aggressive promotion of this story, had made false accusations…
Fox News is already teasing its next round of ACORN attacks. If credible journalists don’t stand up for their craft, then Fox News will keep enjoying its position in the driver’s seat.
ACORN’s issue is not just “mickey mouse”–you do not seriously think it was only one voter registration fraud sheet with mickey mouse, do you? Eleven people were arrested just last week for 900 bogus reg. forms: http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_13298937
from article: “Last year, ACORN’s national drive produced some 1.3 million voter applications.”
ACORN is not just about a “few” unrelated coincidentally morally corrupt employees all over the country who are all down with cheating taxes/ smuggling in little girls for prostitution. ACORN is complicated; they certainly didn’t do anything to not cause the housing crisis which caused the economic collapse, which in turn caused the bailouts, which made the USA in the biggest debt of this country’s existence. And they are running money laundering rackets through fronts for corrupt candidates who then get give them gov money and cash under the table, and they will get busted for it.
ACORN is going down. Good riddance. Bring in some DECENT progressive organizations to help people who need help.
334
Zee 09.20.09 at 3:12 pm
BONG! Go back and READ it, Swannie. I condensed it to make it EASY for you.
Fox is LYING. And even after police reports refute their claims they continue to make FALSE REPORTS.
Where is it?
I had another link I was going to post the other day that was mocking this voter fraud nonsense and showed instead that Republicans have been the ones prosecuted for election fraud, including all these false attorney general firings, and fake robocalls, etc.
But I was hoping the Beck groupies would just take their rag doll and go chew on it elsewhere.
PUMAs should really beware of these faux outrages.
339
Zee 09.20.09 at 3:22 pm
Sorry, dances, but if someone’s gonna swoop in and just say, “oh, yeah, like the other news stations are reliable” I’m gonna say BONG! Go back and read because the media watchdog article I so KINDLY condensed for PUMAs said the same thing. The rest of the media is NOT reliable. Because they are not reporting on the orchestrated fake outrage.
That’s not an attack. It’s a demand for the common courtesy of reading the article that outlines the multiple false reports with which Fox is drumming up its faux outrage.
I don’t really care if the Beck groupies here want to snigger at me with boring asides about “candy apples” but I don’t like to see PUMA as a whole devolve into a laughing stock by following Pied Pipers with false reports.
Zee,
Not everyone who dislikes Acorn is a Beck groupie… just saying..
Zee 09.20.09 at 3:34 pm
“Every fraud counts. I wonder why you think this story is table scraps. I think it exposes a culture of gaming the system while using the system’s money.”
People. No. Obviously not one of you has read the most elementary lay-out of the fraudulent story that I provided in less than a 10 minute search. A handful of idiots does not “expose a culture.” They were fired. And the rightwing activists LIED that they were “not thrown out anywhere.” They LIED. In fact, a police report was filed against them by at least one worker, luckily, because the report proves them to be liars.
But hey, I guess since Fox News didn’t report on THAT the Beck groupies are gonna go la-la-la-la and not address it and continue to make irrelevant points.
Every fraud counts is dead wrong. Trumped up videos are the mark of every last cult. The entire 9/11 cult was suckered in by Youtubes.
A media watchdog that took the entire array of networks to task as well as the New York Times ought to be required reading here.
The 9/11 nuts are exactly what derailed the valid questions that should’ve been asked of Bush. I would think that some here might be interested in focusing on valid takedowns of Obama without joining in the distractions created to *derail* valid questioning of Zero. Zerobama’s greatest strength right now are all the distractions like the stupid “you lie!” nonstory.
This nonstory belongs with that one.
Goofsmom, ACORN has been a very useful tool to derail PUMAs from the get go.
344
kat in your hat 09.20.09 at 3:37 pm
ACORN has been corrupt for years. Dale Rathke, Wade’s brother, embezzled 1 million dollars from ACORN:
From NYT:
“…brother, Dale Rathke, embezzled nearly $1 million from Acorn and affiliated charitable organizations in 1999 and 2000, Acorn officials said, but a small group of executives decided to keep the information from almost all of the group’s board members and not to alert law enforcement.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/us/09embezzle.html
Meanwhile, Obama was a LAWYER for ACORN and worked with their affiliate Project Vote, and he helped get ACORN grants from the (ayers) Woods Fund.
Forget it.
ACORN sucks.
345
Zee 09.20.09 at 3:46 pm
Or, to put it another way, Goofs:
You don’t want me to equate all the PUMAs who don’t like ACORN with Beck groupies. (I don’t…I equate the Beck Groupies with Pied Pipers leading PUMAs astray.)
Yet you all want me to accept that a few morons who thought those two shiny scrubbed cleancut kids could possible be a hooker and pimp with the “corruption” of an entire organization.
Plus, you all want to excuse those two same rightwing pranksters for lying. You want to excuse Fox News for repeating lies even after police reports (which they should’ve had the journalistic integrity to investigate for themselves before reporting a single thing) prove them false stories.
So, this is logic? A few stupid low-level workers = nationwide corruption, but proven, repeated falsehoods = brave, true journalism. That PUMAs should continue to support AFTER they’ve been proven false?
Still waiting, kat, for ONE example of this widespread prevalent “voter fraud” that you detailed. Any proof or did you pull it out of…..um, thin air?
347
Zee 09.20.09 at 3:49 pm
“Forget it.
ACORN sucks.”
Translated: Never mind facts! Forget logic! It’s the GO, AntiObama team slogan! ACORN sucks! Slogan! Mantra! La la la!!
Zee,
ACORN is corrupt on their own–it’s not a right v. left thing. I do not WANT democrats associated with ACORN–it looks terrible. 1 million dollars embezzlement by the founders brother, and no one alerted authorities or supposedly told the majority of the board? That’s terrible. That’s just something they got caught for–how much have they actually gotten away with?
Did you know that in order for ACORN to receive government money that they had to be non-partisan? But case after case shows that they are anything but–which should disqualify them from funds alone.
I really don’t mind that you like to stand up for ACORN. Not a problem for me.
They are still in trouble, no matter what:
“Minutes from a meeting ACORN held in Los Angeles last summer reveal an organization then on the brink of financial collapse. “Currently owe over $800k to IRS” the minutes note. “Haven’t paid medical bills of over $300k. We are essentially ‘broke’ nationally and lots of offices are struggling.” http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2009/sep/20/ex-acorn-officer-embezzled/
That’s BEFORE they lost their contract with the Census and their deal to continue getting money from taxpayers–which is coming to an end. They are likely going to go bankrupt, especially after the hard-core audits coming their way.
I’m not cool with embezzlement, money laundering, voter registration fraud (and yes, I have no doubt that there was voter fraud and it is likely to come out). And I’m not cool with ACORN employees participating in tax evasion/ tax fraud and helping supposed pimp politicians with the sex trafficking of foreign little girls. At the very least, they will stop terrorizing bankers and mayors at their HOMES in order to intimidate them into giving out home loans to people who can never pay it back.
Eh, ACORN is being investigated in over a dozen states right now.
And I’m not sure why Florida voter registration fraud is something that is being pushed as no big deal, not when 11 ACORN employees got arrested for 900 bogus voter reg. forms just last week.
Meanwhile, out of Nevada:
“On Monday, Nevada officials charged Acorn, its regional director and its Las Vegas field director with submitting thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms last year. Larry Lomax, the registrar of voters in Las Vegas, says he believes 48% of Acorn’s forms “are clearly fraudulent.” On Thursday, prosecutors in Pittsburgh, Pa., also charged seven Acorn employees with filing hundreds of fraudulent voter registrations before last year’s general election.
Out of Philadelphia:
“Other Democrats on the ground have complaints. Fred Voight, deputy election commissioner in Philadelphia, protested after Acorn (according to the registrar of voters and his own investigation) submitted at least 1,500 fraudulent registrations last fall. “This has been going on for a number of years,” he told CNN in October. St. Louis Democrat Matthew Potter, the city’s deputy elections director, had similar complaints.”
Washington:
“Elsewhere, Washington state prosecutors fined Acorn $25,000 after several employees were convicted of voter registration fraud in 2007. The group signed a consent decree with King County (Seattle), requiring it to beef up its oversight or face criminal prosecution. In the 2008 election, Acorn’s practices led to investigations, some ongoing, in 14 other states.”
ACORN doesn’t “suck” because BECK told me so (LOL)…they are fundamentally corrupt.
Zee
read a years worth of links re acorn in the action center. This one exposeay not prove the entire organization I’d corrupt… But when you view a years worth of incidents , I think it justifies investigation, most of All because taxpayer funds are financing fraudulent activity.
Electoral Fraud:
“Also called voter fraud, the mechanisms involved include illegal voter registration, intimidation at polls and improper vote counting.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_fraud
Still waiting, kat, for even ONE case of that prevalent, “easy” voter fraud.
Where is it?
————————–
Zee,
What are you talking about? where were you during the last election?
I don’t get it. You know there was/is voter fraud. In fact, It was right here. Right where I am. I am in the middle of it. You cannot tell me it did not exist and Acorn was not part of the point people. I was here, I lived it and still am. We were saying it long before beck, fox any media. It’s just now at least someone in the media is exposing it. I don’t give a fuck if it is a rinky dink local channel who exposes it. Just that it is period.
