in deep thought

Not wanting your elementary school kids’ teachers to incorporate the president’s political messages into the curriculum does not make you a racist.

That’s logic that looks like this:

Sept 8th… Here are two of the books on Obama your kids are expected to read…

Remember, the Dept. of Education expects your kids to read books on the life of Barack Obama before the monumental speech on September 8th, well here’s a look at two of the books that shall be used:

Oh but it gets worse folks! Have you seen the PSA “I Pledge”? All the stars got together and it ends with Demi Moore saying “I pledge to be a servant to the president”…Oh my goodness. Think *61 has forgotten he works for us, not the other way around. I think we need a prowl on this!

persephone 09.03.09 at 12:44 pm

aside from the fact that this promotion of Obama worship is reprehensible,
politicizing public schools is downright disrespectful to those who don’t support or agree with the president.

Not agreeing/supporting the president was legal in this country last time I checked.

Remember when it wasn’t even considered polite to discuss politics or religion in some settings?

Teaching civics is one thing, but pushing the theme of “service” in public schools!?

This is the tip of the power grab iceberg.
Every awful thing that was supposedly “debunked” about Obama last year is manifesting before our eyes.

More people need to take to the streets and put this administration back in it’s place, which is to work for the people, and not the other way around.

Protest Obama’s Americorps service announcement,which will be made disrespectfully on the 8th anniversary of 9/11 by making calls and writing letters to Reps and newspaper editors.

Get to D.C. on 9/12 if you can.
Wear your PUMA gear.
Put aside Repub/Dem labels.
Fight for your country.
All hands on deck!

Greta Von Susteren on Fox has a reporter named Griff Jenkins who is going around the country to as many of the Town Halls as he can, winding up in D.C. on 9/12.
It’s very moving to see ordinary Americans out expressing their strong disapproval of the takeover of their country.

Question — HR 676 — thoughts ??? For ? Against ? Why ? Why not ?

Difference between that bill and the other one floating around – I can’t remember it’s number – the one Murphy read.

As Barack Obama prepares a nationwide broadcast to America’s students next Tuesday, it has been revealed that Democrats complained in 1991 when then President George H. W. Bush broadcast a speech from a Northwest Washington junior high school.

In fact, the House Majority leader at the time, Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.), said “The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the president, it should be helping us to produce smarter students.”

queen81, and others…they have already backpedaled on the “I pledge” to Obama. They’re supposedly removing that part…so far I’ve only seen NRO and Washtington Times as sources, but apparently the Dept. of Education is responding to the criticism of what should’ve been obvious.

against.
not supporting government takeover of health care, period.

there are several other legislative alternatives that don’t give the government total control.

before making such an extreme move why not at least try some less invasive solutions?

how quick and easy would it have been to regulate insurance and pharma instead of hammering this 1000 plus page bill filled with jibberish?

make patient dumping illegal.
open up medicare.
help the uninsured buy basic insurance.
tax health care benefits so the tax code doesn’t reward employees and punish the self employed or the self payers.
(this would help pay for care for the poor)
make insurance regs federal-this will create market competition across state lines.
(MA did this with car insurance-it WORKED!)

Our Reps are a bunch of lying, tax cheating crooks owned by lobbyists.
Why give them enough rope to hang themselves and US too?
HC is too big an undertaking-they clearly can’t be trusted with it.

This is not HRC’s plan, where Americans were going to get the plan members of congress have.
Those days are over and Obama is not HRC!

Now we know why Scientology does so well in Hollywood. Actors must be predisposed to cults. Does anyone know what kissing your biceps signifies? He had tattoos…was he kissing the tattoos or the biceps?

For. Here is some more info on the Single Payer Bill…

If doctors are for it, and insurance and big pharma against, and if Zerobama won’t even sit down with doctors to discuss it, it must be worth a look. Mad as Hell Doctors are making a caravan across the US to go to DC and ask Obama again to discuss it. Obama lied that he was for it, and the only thing in the way of Single Payer was not having a Dem in the White House and enough Dems to support it. Well, now we have a Trojan Ass in the WH and the Blue Dogs are splitting off from the Yellow. Some “Uniter” huh? Same as the old “Uniter.”

More on the “Uniter.”

Zerobama promised to be a uniter.

Anyone think the Town Halls exude unity? In one town hall, a woman in a wheelchair pleads for health reform while thugs in the back jeer at her. In one street rally, a 65 year old man crossed the street to argue with the Obamacarebots, got in a fistfight, and had his finger bit off!

I liked Cinie’s post, Murphy. I thought her overall message, that the media clowns are focusing on the extremes and distractions until it’s one holy mess out there. I think this is true.

Meanwhile, egalia over at TGW found this flashback:

http://ky3.blogspot.com/2009/09/video-obama-school-speech-debate.html

1991: DEMS BLAST BUSH 41 SCHOOL SPEECH

From the Washington Post, published Friday, October 4, 1991: Democrats assailed the Bush Administration today for spending $26,750 in taxpayer money to hire a production company that oversaw President Bush’s telecast from an eighth-grade classroom here to schoolchildren around the country on Tuesday. The money came from the Education Department’s salary and expense budget. As a result, Representative William D. Ford, the Michigan Democrat who heads the House Education and Labor Committee, demanded that Education Secretary Lamar Alexander appear before the committee to defend his “spending scarce education dollars to produce a media event.” And the House majority leader, Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri, said, “The Department of Education should not be producing paid political advertising for the President.” The President’s spokesman, Marlin Fitzwater, responded by denying that Mr. Bush’s talk to the schoolchildren had been a political event and calling the criticism “nonsense.”

Are we brainwashing our children? What is going on?
Are children being used?
I found this article while researching Muslims in Tenn.

“Fadi Ezzeir, the president of the Nashville Chapter of the Muslim American Society, a well-known front organization for the Muslim Brotherhood, is a Kurd who grew up in Jordan.
A 1991 strategy paper for the Muslim Brotherhood, often referred to as the Ikhwan in Arabic, describes the group’s goals for America: “The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America, aimed at the youth, is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

“This process requires a “mastery of the art of ‘coalitions,’ the art of ‘absorption’ and the principles of ‘cooperation.’
(Does this sound Familair??)

” Fadi Ezzeir is a also Board member of the Salahadeen Center (the Kurdish community center and mosque).
He runs their Youth Education Center and is a Muslim Boy Scout leader.

A Kurdish woman, Kasar Abdullah was a past President of the Muslim Student Association (a radical Muslim student group financed by the Saudi Arabian government) at Tennessee State University. She now works as an Administrative Specialist for the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition and is a Girl Scout Leader as well.
  In 2001, the Muslim girl scouts handed out prayer cards and packets of information about Islam to Mayor Bill Purcell and other guests along with a poster called
“Helping Hands are the Petals of God’s Flower.”
. A girl scout troop actually held a ceremony for little girls taking the Islamic veil.

There is ample evidence that Boy Scouts are likewise openly used as Islamic indoctrination centers for Muslim youth. In Nashville, Muslim Boy Scout troops are run by the Muslim American Society.

No doubt, persephone, but Dems who were trying to warn the Obot fools during the election that Hillary’s plan was better and that Zero was a liar would like a single payer system. Zero won’t be in the White House forever, and we’re not afraid of the “gummint” — just this misadministration. Privatization is a crock. Joseph Cannon does some hilarious spanking on these issues. Particularly on how the red states, who often hold the entire country hostage on these issues, are really welfare states supported by the productive blue states.

But I leave the spanking of these kinds of things to policy wonks…

Couple things bother me about healthcare.

Just because you have insurance doesn’t mean you’re gonna have healthcare.

I also think that to receive free healthcare you should be a citizen of the United States.

27

Zee 09.03.09 at 1:36 pm

FL Barbara…I would be more worried about the megachurches all over the US. Entire families go because they’re like malls, with frozen mocha drinks, and they fill entire stadiums with people attending for the purpose of handing their brains over.

I remember seeing pictures of these stadiums, filled with Bush supporters, who tied the Bush “sticks” (they were festive toys that make whooshing sounds, they’re like batons) into the shape of the cross.

Look up “Reconstructionalists” and see how they plan to take over the US and turn it into a “Christian” nation, complete with Old Testament rules.

And they enter politics. And under the radar, too.

All these disgusting religions are competing for power…here, and in South America, too.

simofish

a good economic reality dose-I really enjoyed this article:

I’m a capitalist, not a socialist. I’m a centrist, not a liberal or libertarian. I’m definitely not a Republican or a conservative, but I want this country to achieve a public health insurance policy that actually works, not pie in the sky wishful thinking. I don’t want it to bankrupt the country or any industry that employs millions of people. I want a bipartisan approach to solving the problem; that way, maybe some common sense will prevail.

Zee, you and Joe *should* be afraid of the “gummint,” as you call it.

they are giving us plenty of reasons to be afraid. just read the headlines.

brush off and marginalize the people of the red states all you like, but they are taxpaying citizens and have a right to their input.
the contribution they make to our democracy, economy, and military deserve the same respect as the blue states’ contribution.
Canon can just get over himself.

World Wildlife Fund – WWF Condemns ‘Offensive’ Ad With It’s Logo

The World Wildlife Fund is speaking out after bloggers and twitterers condemned the environmental group over a tasteless and unapproved ad exploiting the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York’s World Trade Center.

The online ad shows a swarm of airplanes about to attack New York with a caption reading: “The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it.”

The ad bears the WWF’s trademark panda logo.

sistermoon3 — free to the people who are not paying

you’re right – i am paying – I just paid over $1000.00 this month out of pocket and every time I need my migraine medicine it’s $250.00.

There are a lot of people NOT paying – not paying taxes, not paying healthcare — BUT — all the taxes we pull in we could pay for everyone to have healthcare.

We can’t do it all – so lets cut out date night to NYC and shopping trips to Paris. And all the other bullshit and stimulus shit and bank bailouts, etc. etc. etc.

37

FLBarbara 09.03.09 at 2:19 pm

Zee,

You have every right to be worried about

(Zee 09.03.09 at 1:36 pm FL Barbara)…I would be more worried about the megachurches all over the US.
____________________
My concern was for what I have been hearing about Sharia Law in Shelbyville and Nashville Tenn. Since I have seen firsthand the results of Sharia Law, in a stadium on women. Yes, batons in the shape of crosses making wooshing sounds carried by those drinking frozen Mocha coffee may worry some. But I am more worried about the Boy Scouts of America being told that the goals for America: “The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America, aimed at the youth, is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and sabotaging its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

And the girls scouts of America having ceremonies for girls taking up the wearing of veils.
Especially in light of the Obama school plans which sound a lot like how the intend to teach the Muslim youth with.

This process requires a “mastery of the art of ‘coalitions,’ the art of ‘absorption’ and the principles of ‘cooperation.’

So we can disagree and I will continue to worry about Muslims and their efforts to take over with Sharia Law and it’s barbaric treatment of women and you can worry about the
“Reconstructionalists” and how they plan to take over the US and turn it into a “Christian” nation, complete with Old Testament rules.

38

Maybe states with the lottery should start putting all that money into their healthcare system instead of education if fixing the healthcare problem is the problem as far as cost goes.
I dont hear anyone saying education is bankrupting us.
And states could then really put their saved money into education. Well, it’s a thought.

Good afternoon everyone. I have a lot of reading to catch up on here!
Murphy,
your new dog PUMA is so beautiful. You have to keep her, she looks like she belongs in the Murphy home! it was fate :)

Secondly, I just wanted to give you this news from my Grand daughter Krysten. She got the announcement yesterday about the Ofraud telecast… and she marched up to her teacher and told her she would have no part of it! Luckily, my daughter moved over the summer to a great school district. Boulder Valley Schools in Colorado. They went to the board, and discussed this o’fraud agenda. They sent letters home, giving the parents the choice to opt their children out. They will remain in school, doing other school activities, while the children who opt in, listen to the proganda. I had the best surprise the other day, it just made my whole year. My old boss called me and said I had a box waiting at the post office. When I opened it up it was a Puma shirt, the one that says Speak Your Truth..speak even if your voice is shaking. and on it are two buttons. Pass The ERA and Alice Paul Lives. I was so shocked, I just sat in my car and cried. I do not know who sent it, but thank you so much. What a wonderful gesture, and it means so much to me. It is the best thing that has happened to me in over a year. you just don’t know.

54

prplvette85 09.03.09 at 5:44 pm

Sheila7
It was great, I wore it yesterday, and was in an AT&T phone store, trying to upgrade to an i phone. I waited for the one woman in the store to wait on me. She was great. We were talking about the shirt, and the ERA. She is from Illinois, and did not know that Illinois did not pass the ERA. We started talking about sexism. She said I deal with it all day long. People men and women come in here and automatically go to the men. They think for some reason, they know what they are doing. They don’t realize I have been here longer than any of them, and they come over to ask me to help troubleshoot, or answer questions. As we stood there and she was programming my phone, at least 6 times, 3 different male employees came to ask her questions. She said see what I mean, when they came in, I was not busy, they just gravitate to the men. Every one of the customers in there at that time were men….pfft

55

sheila7 09.03.09 at 5:46 pm

Cool! I wore mine to a town hall and got LOTS of looks and had a lady ask me about it. She was a BO supporter but she said she still loved the shirt.

Toni Yancey, professor of health services at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Public Health, said that advertising is skewed in some American neighborhoods when it comes to messages about food and fitness.

“In lower-income communities and African American and Latino communities there is more advertising for unhealthy food choices and less advertising for healthy food choices,” Yancey said. “And on top of that – and this hasn’t been discussed much or even documented before to my knowledge – there is more advertising for physically inactive services and goods.”

“So, for instance, (advertising) for films and automated transportation, cars and so forth, or video games,” Yancey said. “That’s also being pushed disproportionately in certain communities.”

A strong public health option that will allow the nation’s more than 46 million uninsured Americans – more than half of whom are people of color – to finally have access to affordable, meaningful health care coverage no later than 2013. As you know and we have firmly noted throughout the health care reform debate, a robust public option not only will play a pivotal role in our collective efforts to eliminate uninsurance – a public health challenge that detrimentally affects millions of hardworking, innocent Americans – but also in our efforts to ensure that every American citizen, regardless of race, ethnicity, geography or gender, has affordable access to meaningful, reliable health care treatments and services when needed. Thus, we firmly believe that the extraordinary benefits of a robust public option to the health and strength of this nation should, and do, outweigh the immediate, upfront costs associated with creating it.

persephone 09.03.09 at 6:16 pm

An already ugly health-care debate got even uglier on Wednesday evening when a 65-year old opponent of Democratic reform proposals had his finger bitten off at a vigil organized by MoveOn.org in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

“My understanding is that it was a supporter of health care reform who got into a confrontation with a non-supporter and the non-supporter got his finger bit off,” Capt. Bruce Norris of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department told ABC News. “My understanding is that the event was organized by MoveOn.org.”

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department does not have a suspect at this time and does not know whether or not the suspect was a member of MoveOn.org.

“It’s considered a mayhem which is the removal of an appendage from a human,” said Norris of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. “The crime is punishable by imprisonment for 2, 4, or 8 years.”

A spokesperson for MoveOn.org, a liberal advocacy group which has organized 355 “We Can’t Afford to Wait” vigils around the country, expressed concern about the events that transpired in Thousand Oaks, a community which is located 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

“I’m trying to get details,” said Ilyse Hogue, MoveOn.org’s director of political advocacy and communications. “You know us: we don’t condone violence of any kind.”

I am just itching to do some live Puma activities… I might make some signs and have my own little protest… see what activity I can drum up :) I could go stand on the corner where there is the Veteran’s Memorial wall. There are war protesters there every Saturday morning. They leave about 11 am. I could take over their corner…woot!

it is anyone that is not brown or black. Mama, I live in Gary, a predominately black city. When I first moved here.. that is all I heard…
“It’s the whites that came here with drugs and ruined the city and got the blacks hooked on crack.”
Now I hear… the whites come here to buy and sell drugs, they come to our town, thats why there are so many shootings and robberies. They (the minorities) just want to blame everyone but themselves.
The problem is, the young people sling drugs here, and give the usually single mothers lots of money to pay bills, so the parents ignore what they are doing, because of the money. Many are on welfare, and teens or boyfriends sell drugs instead of working. They get the welfare, and don’t have to work and have money on the side. Only when their kid gets shot or killed, do they claim they did not know their kid or boyfriend was into drugs. I have more single women getting life insurance on their teens, than any state I ever lived in. Money in the bank for them.
I see it everyday. Fraud, fraud and more fraud.
What a crock. Its always the “whites”

What is going on here. There is no such thing as “whites”. That is as stupid a concept as “blacks”. In the Boston courts, the Gates (of the famous Harvard professor) spout about race. The fact of the matter is that black people in Boston are as diverse as any other group in the world.

It is useful to the Gates, Obama’s, Jessie Jackson’s, Van Jones of the world to pretend that there is such a thing as “black”. But the fact of the matter is that in MY COUNTRY, black, white, red, yellow, brown does not matter.

Not because this country, MY COUNTRY, is such a marvelous country. Not because this country, MY COUNTRY, is such a post race country. But because this country is so diverse that there is not such thing as the categories of “white” or “red” or “black”.

These is only the industry of race. And it is and industry that is as useful as the industry of “Jew.” Germany used that category to not only to create a Holocaust that shatters the soul, but also to create artificial groupings of people that have nothing to do with reality.

In Boston, black Haitians have nothing to do with black Dominicans. They disdain them as less than and barbarian. Cape Verdians consider all American blacks as thugs and losers.

Race has never been and will never be the line that divides the have’s from the have not’s. That color is green.

The Next New Plan for Bananastan

We’re going through Bananastan* war strategies like they’re Pez candies. As Jason Ditz of Antiwar.com has noted, General Stanley McChrystal’s new report on Afghanistan “admitted that the current strategy, which was itself a new strategy presented only five months ago to replace the previous new strategy, isn’t working and that yet another new strategy is needed.”

It seems certain that Stan the Man will ask for more troops, though, so we’re at least being consistent in our policy of sending more American soldiers to war without knowing why.

The only strategy that seems to be working so far is the propaganda effort to convince the American public to go along with another asinine war. Mr. Obama has called the Bananastan conflict a “war of necessity” (it isn’t).

Admiral Mullen says we’ll only have credibility with the Afghan people if we promise to stay there forever and then actually do it (we won’t have credibility then, either, nor is there a burning national security requirement for us to have credibility with the Afghan people).

Max Boot says Americans are only dissatisfied with the Afghanistan war “because they don’t see enough signs of progress” (they don’t see enough signs of progress because there is no progress).

Controversial Obama Administration Official Denies Being Part of 9/11 “Truther” Movement, Apologizes for Past Comments

Van Jones, the Special Advisor for Green Jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, is Number 46 of the petitioners from the so-called “Truther” movement which suggests that people in the administration of President George W. Bush “may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

In a statement issued Thursday evening Jones said of “the petition that was circulated today, I do not agree with this statement and it certainly does not reflect my views now or ever.”

He did not explain how his name came to be on the petition.

I have had a couple of doozies for deep thoughts. Thanks to y’alls’ training, nstead of teh B word, I am trying to only say “yotches…” or yotch.

Say… what does everyone think of getting lunch or luncheon together with Susan Faludi? She has been at the Radcliffe Institute, and I must say, I am pretty sure it has been under the rader for a while. She is working on something. Interesting to think of who you may have passed at the Schlesinger, or Whole Foods for that matter.

and finally… I was wondering when in human/primate evolution, humans figured out they should keep the two ends of the alimentary tract as far apart as possible, and the eyes away from the dirtier end… and it occurs to me that perhaps they notices both reptilians and mammalians keep theirs well away from the other. ;)

The Lowell Sun
Updated: 09/04/2009 06:35:52 AM EDT

I’m sorry but this is creepy propagandizing of putting thoughts of a perfect president that can do no wrong and wants to control the younger generation. The far left is trying to make the conservatives look like we are all right-wing cronies that are out of our minds. This can be far from the truth. I consider myself a middle-of-the-road conservative. I do not hold the ideology of the far right nor do I condone how they may at times try scare tactics to make us stray from the middle. With this being said, we must not overlook what has been going on in this administration. In fact, it is quite scary, and if we do not wake up we could be in control of something we will never recover from as a nation.

First, President Obama will be speaking directly to our children and youth on Sept. 8. The full text of the Obama’s school speech, from what I found, has not been made available completely to parents at this point. What we have seen is a full lineup of classroom activities for elementary-school students and older students to do before and after the speech. These workshops are available at the Department of Education Web site. President Obama will not broadcast on major network, but the speech can be viewed live online at the White House Web site. The broadcast begins at noon Eastern time.

White House to release logs after settlement interest group

WASHINGTON (CNN) — President Obama plans to announce Friday that the White House will release its future visitor logs on a regular basis, two administration officials said.

The announcement follows a legal settlement with the group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which had sued the administration for release of visitor logs, the group announced on its Web site.

Since taking office, the president has been criticized for refusing to release some of the logs, including those relating to health care and coal company executives.

The new policy will apply to visitor logs created after September 15 —not to previous visitor logs, according to an administration statement outlining the policy that CREW posted on its Web site. The future logs will be released 90 to 120 days after the meetings, and there are some exceptions.

have you thought about how the irs will play a part in the proposed healthcare plan?

123

sistermoon3 09.04.09 at 11:37 am

well, i dont know about but this is what we need to do
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sixteen years ago, in the spring of 1993, then-First Lady Hillary Clinton came to me to talk about health care reform. I told her then what I would tell President Obama today: It’s impossible to write a comprehensive health care reform bill and get it passed. Politicians aren’t that smart, Americans aren’t that trusting, and special interests aren’t that lazy.
Instead of trying to pass a single bill that attempts to remake one-sixth of the American economy, Obama could use his speech to announce a series of four or five bills to reform our health care system, each written in a bipartisan way and debated in open hearings with open rules.
A step-by-step approach would make both sides more accountable. It would eliminate the opportunity for Democrats to bury bad programs in a mammoth, unreadable bill, and it would obligate Republicans to come to the table with their own reform ideas.
One set of hearings and one bill could focus on improving the delivery and administration of health care, including tort reform and rewarding providers for individual health and wellness.
Another bill could address creating real competition and choice in the insurance market by creating a nationwide market for insurance.
A separate bill could focus on saving Medicare and Medicaid from bankruptcy by finding ways to eliminate what the Center for Health Transformation estimates is $70-120 billion in fraud and abuse each year.
And a fourth bill could explore ways of investing in science and innovation, like reforming the FDA’s hopelessly long and needlessly complicated approval process for new medicines.
Each of these bills is more understandable, more doable, and more democratic than the take-it-or-leave-it strategy that has been employed so far.
So Obama has a choice to make Wednesday night.
He can listen to us.
Or he can demand we listen to him.
THUGS SHAKING DOWN FAMILIES WHO CARE FOR THEIR DISABLED FAMILY MEMBERS
Organized labor recruits in-home caregivers
3,000 who receive Illinois stipends are targeted
Kathy Keith has cared for a son with Down syndrome for 23 years and never dreamed that one day organized labor would consider her a prime candidate for a union card.
So she was skeptical when representatives from two of the nation’s largest unions began competing for her attention over the last few weeks with unannounced visits to her home, mailings and phone messages promising to fatten her state stipend.
The Bartlett resident is among about 3,000 people who receive state funding to assist someone at home with a developmental disability. As a result of an executive order signed by Gov. Pat Quinn in June that allows collective bargaining by “individual providers of home-based support services,” unions are now trying to sign them up in an unusual effort to boost membership.
The move has left some care providers angry and confused. Many are mothers, fathers or close relatives who are caring for loved ones, advocates say.
“Are you saying I can go on strike and not wipe my son’s rear end?” Keith said, questioning if union membership would pit her interests against her son’s.
Soon, she and others expect to receive ballots by mail that ask them to join the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
Caregivers were told that union dues could be up to 2 percent of the monthly stipend, about $2,000 for Keith before taxes and fees. A SEIU spokeswoman said dues would cost no more than $25 per month.
Who is Van Jones?
The following text comes from a comment on an article August 5 I believe at Politico>>>
“Politico neglected to mention a few facts about Mr. Jones!
A few short years ago Anthony (Van) Jones was a Bay Area radical agitator-a committed Marxist-Leninist-Maoist, waging war on the police and capitalist system.
Today Van Jones holds a key position in the US government and has the ear of President Barack Obama.
Today Van Jones mixes not with street level militants, but with the cream of the left “establishment”.
But who is Van Jones? Has he really abandoned his communist beliefs?
Van Jones first moved to San Francisco in the spring of 1992, while studying law at Yale, when the leftist Lawyers Committee for Human Rights hired several law students to act as legal observers during the trial of policemen charged with assaulting Rodney King.
Not guilty verdicts in the King case led to mass rioting-which Jones joined in.
Arrested and jailed, Van Jones met a whole new circle of friends.
From the East Bay Express November 2nd 2005:……
“I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of… I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary…I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th..By August, I was a communist.”
The violent communist organisation Van jones went on to lead was called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM).
One set of hearings and one bill could focus on improving the delivery and administration of health care, including tort reform and rewarding providers for individual health and wellness.
**********************
Tort reform to help the doctors.
Rewards for providers??? or well people but punishment for old and genetically predisposed unwell people.
Another bill could address creating real competition and choice in the insurance market by creating a nationwide market for insurance
**************************
This is a biggie with the insurance industry who want to be able to market everywhere. Benefits insurance companies.
A separate bill could focus on saving Medicare and Medicaid from bankruptcy by finding ways to eliminate what the Center for Health Transformation estimates is $70-120 billion in fraud and abuse each year.
************************
Implying that a huge number of people on Medicare and Medicaid commit fraud and abuse. Enough to save billions.
And a fourth bill could explore ways of investing in science and innovation, like reforming the FDA’s hopelessly long and needlessly complicated approval process for new medicines.
***************************
This is a not very thinly disguised attempt to help the drug companies avoid those pesky long trials before they can get their latest drugs on the maket. Benefits drug companies.
So where is the benefit to the citizens or will that trickle down from the benefits to all the industries. Having said that, breaking hc reform into more than one bill may have some merit. I’ll deciee when I see the bills.
WASHINGTON – The unemployment rate jumped almost half a point to 9.7 percent in August, the highest since 1983, reflecting a poor job market that will make it hard for the economy to begin a sustained recovery.
While the jobless rate rose more than expected, the economy shed a net total of 216,000 jobs, less than July’s revised 276,000 and the fewest monthly losses in a year, according to Labor Department data released Friday. Economists expected the unemployment rate to rise to 9.5 percent from July’s 9.4 percent and job reductions to total 225,000.
no for heaven sakes, patients on medicaid and medicare dont commit the fraud, they dont do the paperwork, third parties do that. EX: some of these caregivers that make the chairs on wheels for people with difficulties walking charge 3 times
the price of the actual cost when patients are on medicare
when people who pay for their own are charged the actual retail price. That’s just one example.
on this one, I would not agree with it totally unless they allow us to buy drugs where they are cheaper such as Canada, i do have an issue with this one, but i sure would pray and hope it isnt in anyway to help pharmaceutical companies.
Although this is not involved, i remember a time when my mother was in the hospital and one of the pills she was being given was an aspirin. They were charging 5 dollars at that time for the apirin, and she told us to bring her her own aspirins and she told the hospital she would take her own, and they let her. There are soooooooooo many things that could be cheaper if they would do it right, that’s a big if isnt it.
Congress` Approval Rating at Lowest Point for Year
Hillary Clinton only Administration official with positive ratings
ROCHESTER, N.Y.–(Business Wire)–
As the fall season begins, the focus moves away from town hall meetings and what
is going on around the country back to how people in Washington are dealing with
issues, especially health care reform. Unfortunately, many in Washington are not
dealing from strong positions, including the president himself, in terms of
approval ratings. In fact, when it comes to many of the leaders of Congress as
well as those handling economic issues, majorities of Americans are not even
familiar enough with these people to have an opinion regarding them.
These are some of the results of The Harris Poll® of 2,498 U.S. adults surveyed
online between August 10 and 18, 2009 by Harris Interactive®.
Administration Leaders` Ratings
The rating of individual leaders in government varies greatly:
* Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is the only member of the administration to
have a positive job rating. Just over half of Americans (51%) give her positive
marks, while 31% give her negative ratings and 18% are not familiar enough with
her to have an opinion;
Health Bill Will Hike Medicare Drug Coverage Premiums 20 Percent, Says CBO
(CNSNews.com) – If the health-care reform bill under consideration in the House of Representatives becomes law, seniors will pay Medicare prescription drug program premiums that are 20-percent higher than they would be under current law, says the Congressional Budget Office.
The increase in premiums will start with an average 5-percent hike in 2011 and reach 20 percent by 2019.
Holding Town Halls Beneath “Dignity of My Office”….
REP. LOUISE SLAUGHTER on Ron Reagan Radio Show (on why she is not holding any town hall meetings during the recess): I’m not doing town meetings; I’m not going to give those people a forum. I went through it with the Clinton health care bill, with the John Birch Society, where we had to have police around, and people hysterically crying…
And frankly, to tell you the truth Ron, my own dignity, and the dignity of the office I hold, is important to me; and I know what that is. It is not a spontaneous uprising of my constituents; I’ve got the best relationship with my constituents anybody can ever imagine.
I’m known as just “Louise”, from one end of it to the other, and they know I’m not going to do anything to hurt them, and I’m not going to give these other people, who, when you come down to it, a large number of them are anti-government, they don’t want Medicare or Social Security either; and the notion that they showing up with guns, I think, is totally dangerous.
According to her website, she has instead held conference calls with small groups of voters.
re Cat in NJ at 3:15.
I just downloaded an email which discusses slavery/reparations. It has a perspective I appreciate. In part, it says:
…How about you guys paying whites reparations for current expenses caused by blacks? Not long ago blacks burned down half of Los Angeles , a city in my country. Cities are expensive, Hank [Gates]. Build one sometime and you’ll see what I mean Whites had to pay taxes to repair Los Angeles for you. You can send me a check.
Now, yes, I know you burned LA because you didn’t like the verdict in the trial of those police officers. Well, I didn’t like the verdict in the Simpson trial. But I didn’t burn my house and loot Korean grocers, or burn down a city….
Health care reform means more power for the IRS
By: Byron York
Chief Political Correspondent
September 2, 2009
Under the various proposals now on the table, the IRS would become the main agency for determining who has an “acceptable” health insurance plan; for finding and punishing those who don’t have such a plan; for subsidizing individual health insurance costs through the issuance of a tax credits; and for enforcing the rules on those who attempt to opt out, abuse, or game the system.
A substantial portion of H.R. 3200, the House health care bill, is devoted to amending the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 in order to give the IRS the authority to perform these new duties.
The Democrats’ plan would require all Americans to have “acceptable” insurance coverage (the legislation includes long and complex definitions of “acceptable”) and would designate the IRS as the agency charged with enforcing that requirement.
On your yearly 1040 tax return, you would be required to attest that you have “acceptable” coverage. Of course, you might be lying, or simply confused about whether or not you are covered, so the IRS would need a way to check your claim for accuracy.
Under current plans, insurers would be required to submit to the IRS something like the 1099 form in which taxpayers report outside income. The IRS would then check the information it receives from the insurers against what you have submitted on your tax form.
If it all matches up, you’re fine. If it doesn’t, you will hear from the IRS. And if you don’t have “acceptable” coverage, you will be subject to substantial fines — fines that will be administered by the IRS.
Does Obama Face a 2012 Challenge In His Own Party?
Leading liberals are already thinking the unthinkable: Challenging President Obama for the Democratic nomination in 2012.
According to a report on the left-leaning Huffington Post website, MSNBC host Keith Olbermann and Eugene Robinson, an African-American national columnist for The Washington Post, discussed just such a possibility Thursday night. Robinson said Obama needs to be careful how he handles the health care reform issue and the continuing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Olbermann said the president has “compromised on everything so far and as self-defeating as it may be, the progressive caucus and progressives would abandon him if necessary, if this was to be the policy of this administration into 2012. If it’s necessary to find somebody to run against him, I think they’d do it, no matter how destructive that may seem.”
But just over a month ago, before the president signaled a willingness to give up on the so-called public option element of his health care reform plan, voters were evenly divided over whether Hillary Rodham Clinton would challenge Obama for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2012 . Clinton, after all, was a very close second for the party’s nomination last year.
(Want afree daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook .
In a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey taken the nights of July 30 and 31, 44% of voters said Clinton was at least somewhat likely to challenge Obama in 2012. Eighteen percent (18%) said she was very likely to do so.
Forty-six percent (46%) thought a Clinton challenge in the next presidential election cycle was unlikely, with 30% saying it was not very likely and 16% viewing it as not at all likely.
Interestingly, the numbers were almost identical among just Democratic voters alone, including 17% who said a Clinton challenge in 2012 was very likely and 16% who said it was not at all likely.
This was before Obama, in the face of substantial national protest, appeared to abandon the idea of a government-run health insurance company to compete with private insurers. But support among Democrats for the president’s health care plan collapses when the public option is removed.
In the late July survey, liberal voters, who are the most outraged by the potential elimination of the public option, also were already evenly divided over the possibility of an Obama-Clinton match-up in 2012.
Forty-eight percent (48%) saw it as a possibility, while 49% did not. Just three percent (3%) had no opinion. But again 16% said it was very likely, and 17% said it was not at all likely.
China’s national flag to go up in White House on Sept 20
By Hou Lei (chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2009-07-13 16:45
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do not see a problem with this.

The U.S. is still formalizing our (national) relations.

I grew up with Chinese around, they are my neighbors, landlords, patrons, etc. and this will be an extremely symbolically, hopefully auspicious, gesture for them. Not many people are aware that in 2001, we were in a very hot potential Kilauea/Katrina with China – I witnessed the activity. Net warfare was going on then. I cannot express what the actual importance this has to us, other than a ‘patriotic’ mass foaming of the mouth.

I am trying to strategize how to be an informal citizen-diplomat, understanding world citizen and improve our be a part of the ground game of honest neutral people-group interactions. It is our similarities with our co-worlders. If you understand the pan-Asian concept of honor, and if most people here in our land do as well, then you will do the honorable thing and beat your opponent, if you can. The relations between our two countries are unavoidable.

Being emotional/oppositional is not going to get Americans ahead in the situation right now. Until we make laws restricting imported goods from foreign labor exploited by extraterritorial governments, or Multinational corporations, (in effect both of the foregoing are both) whether totalitarian, fascistic, evil, whatnot, and movement of goods, money, and the decimation of the middle class and exploitation of the poor, and services within our borders, net, etc. We lose.
