Hear California Rep. Diane Watson praise Fidel Castro and Cuba’s health care system during a Town Hall.
She even takes the opportunity to play the “race card.” Her message?
Support Obama and his radical health care reform bill or you are a racist.
Shame on you, Diane Watson, and may your constituents vote you out of the halls of Congress:

An editorial in the yesterday’s New York Times encourages
Senate Democrats to force the unpopular and controversial HR 3200 bill through the Senate using a process called “Reconciliation.”

“Reconciliation” is a process which would allow proposed legislation to pass by way of a simple majority, rather than the 60
votes needed to overcome a filibuster.

HR 3200 will dismantle our health care system as we know it, replacing it with government run health care.

The people have spoken, and they do not support this bill.

Yet the editors at the New York Times have taken it upon themselves to encourage US Senators to defy the will of the people and use a process that will overstep the nay votes of their
elected representatives.

Historically, the Reconciliation process has been used to pass legislation much smaller in scope.
Using it to pass a bill this sweeping is further evidence that the Obama administration seeks to move our country further to the left by using any means necessary to enact their radical agenda.

Health-Care Secrets

Chris Dodd keeps his Senate bill under wraps.

President Obama has promised a “new era of transparency” in Washington, so perhaps he should talk to the Senate about getting with his program.

On July 15, six weeks ago, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee passed an amended $1 trillion health-care bill, with acting Chairman Chris Dodd calling it a “historic achievement.” Too bad the committee won’t reveal this history even to other Senators, much less to the public.

Three weeks ago Republicans on the committee wrote Mr. Dodd “to reiterate our request for a full copy of the bill as amended, in the four-week mark-up.” Mr. Dodd has refused to comply.

The Senate bill that is available on the committee Web site is 790 pages long. While that is some 300 pages shorter than the House health bill, that’s in part because it doesn’t include nearly 200 amendments that passed when the committee redrafted the bill.

Amended sections of the bill might as well be written in invisible ink.

Here’s one that PUMAs can get behind! A group of “Mad as Hell” Doctors from the west coast are caravanning across the US to DC because Zerobama refused to meet with them to discuss Single Payer. You can write letters of support, and even join them along the way.

We should help promote this tour…if we know one thing it’s that Zero hates to be shown up. He had time for “beers” after he put his foot in his mouth regarding the lying cop and his blowhard friend, so maybe we can shame him into meeting with these doctors, who will arrive in DC on Sept. 30-Oct.1.

78% of Americans who go bankrupt because of medical bills HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/opinion/30kristof.html?_r=1&em
——-
In February 2006, the federal government passed a bill encouraging divorce.

Congress passed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, which made it harder for individuals to qualify for Medicaid coverage. One of the provisions of the law extends the “look-back period,” which means the government can go back for five years looking for financial gifts. If money or property was transferred in that time, the government may impose a penalty of time in which the elderly person is not eligible for Medicaid.

With assets held jointly and gifting discouraged, married couples risk losing everything when one spouse needs long-term care, which can cost $110,000 a year, according to New Jersey Attorney Thomas D. Begley, Jr. Divorce, he says, can allow the “community spouse” — the one who’s not institutionalized — to retain the house and enough money to maintain a decent quality of life.

Many elderly are divorcing so the sick spouse can go on Medicaid, but technically that is illegal – may be considered fraud.

Prenups mean nothing to Medicaid under this 2006 law.

Under the old rules she could have kept more of the assets – more than half of the assets. But under the new rules, she can’t. Her impoverishment really occurs after he passes away.

Bush’s Search Policy For Travelers Is Kept

Obama Officials Say Oversight Will Grow

The Obama administration will largely preserve Bush-era procedures allowing the government to search — without suspicion of wrongdoing — the contents of a traveler’s laptop computer, cellphone or other electronic device, although officials said new policies would expand oversight of such inspections.

The policy, disclosed Thursday in a pair of Department of Homeland Security directives, describes more fully than did the Bush administration the procedures by which travelers’ laptops, iPods, cameras and other digital devices can be searched and seized when they cross a U.S. border. And it sets time limits for completing searches.

But representatives of civil liberties and travelers groups say they see little substantive difference between the Bush-era policy, which prompted controversy, and this one.

“Under the policy begun by Bush and now continued by Obama, the government can open your laptop and read your medical records, financial records, e-mails, work product and personal correspondence — all without any suspicion of illegal activity,” said Elizabeth Goitein, who leads the liberty and national security project at the nonprofit Brennan Center for Justice.

FINANCING WIND FARMS

After nearly a six-month lull, Wall Street is getting back into the business of financing new wind farms.

Morgan Stanley and Citigroup Inc. have invested $100 million each to finance separate wind farms this month, taking advantage of a brand-new federal program that is paying substantial cash grants to help cover the cost of renewable energy investments.
Bankers say this is the beginning of an active pipeline of new wind-farm financing, as well as investment in large solar installations and geothermal facilities. Project developers and Wall Street appear to be viewing the federal cash grant program as such a good deal, industry experts say, it may grow much larger than its Washington creators expected.

Under the program, the government will give a cash rebate for 30% of the cost of building a renewable-energy facility, awarded 60 days after an application is approved. Investors are also given valuable accelerated depreciation deductions, which help offset taxes.

[U]nlike the popular cash-for-clunkers programs, there is no spending cap on the renewable energy grants, and the government has committed to spending as much as is needed to keep renewable-energy investments flowing.

NOW has a very good focus for today: CEDAW, Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

CEDAW has been ratified all over the world…the US is the only democracy which hasn’t ratified it yet…in the company of countries like Somalia and Iran. Even Japan, the Rape Game leaders of the world, have it.

The problem is, we need to pass a “clean” version of it…unencumbered by all the watering-down limitations they are trying to pile on it.

And guess who is the Senate committee chair? None other than John Kerry.

We need to call on him and his buddy Zero to get off their useless skinny arses and ratify CEDAW, clean:

I’ve been researching women candidates in W. Va and not having much luck. I believe their capital is Charleston and there are 3 papers there. 2 do not have a ‘politics’ section link. The biggest news in Charleston is that an alligator was found in a creek. Not making fun – that would be a big story everywhere except Florida and Louisiana. Are there any bloggers from W. Va that could steer me to a good statewide politics site. Thanks.

Blagojevich writes in “The Governor” that Emanuel spoke with him about whether it was possible to appoint a “placeholder” to the congressional seat Emanuel was giving up so that he could win back the seat in 2010 and continue his efforts to become speaker some day.

and here I thought I was under a cloud, Barclay’s FINALLY raised my card from 8 to 14.99% ~ it was *always* paid every month, then recently I changed spending habits from miser to spendthrift. on purpose to help the retail sector while fluffing up my lifestyle in a disgusting consumerist manner. Hot on the heels of that card usage, my rate is raised. I get to think about my reaction to such a development, while the stressed families face a much harsher reality.

I have friends, family, and colleagues on the same course, who joined in with me on this, as we are all very alarmed at the destruction of businesses large and small, as the chinese goods become more expensive (now that we conveniently no longer have American, Canadian, and European manufacturing to depend on to keep our prices competitive shelves stocked).

And it’s going to get worse. Pacific Rim goods are going north from the new deep-water port at Lazaro Cardenas via truck and KCS’s Mexican railway subsidiaries. A second deep-water Pacific port is under construction.

This is another Unintended Consequence of NAFTA. The idea of a borderless America (for trade purposes) isn’t a bad one, but this particular agreement needs an overhaul. The chief beneficiaries are the US corps who unload their American workers onto unemployment insurance, go south and then fail to provide decent working conditions for the Mexican maquila workers. The parts for goods assembled in Mexico come, more often than not, from China, which also makes out like a bandit.

NAFTA needs to be renegotiated, not only for the sake of the American worker but also for the Mexican workers who face intolerable conditions and abuse in the maquilas.

One more note on the newspaper links…BCL….I know it’s frustrating to search ANY news site…I don’t even try to search the sites at this point. I just use the newspaper *name* and search google with “(newspaper name) + woman candidate 2010″

The reason this works is because women candidates are so rare they still mention it in the article about the woman running, instead of simply speak about her by name only.

So even tho those newspapers are online…I’m using them foremost as a list of names as opposed to live links.

OK…ask me again about joining the team in October. I have too many directions to heed in September!!!

PUMAWatch

Pumas – here’s something I think we should be watching – has Sunstein, new regulatroy czar, been confirmed yet? Have heard chatter on the web that some would like to make owners of blogs responsible for what bloggers post at their site – that would be of major consequence to Murphy. Also blogs having to post links to opposing views and there are some civility discussions that would probably have wiped out the last couple days of blogging here (that may have been a good thing!!)

Seriously though

What Impact Will Cass Sunstein Have on Obama’s Internet Policy?

http://techliberation.com/2009/01/08/what-impact-will-cass-sunstein-have-on-obamas-internet-policy/

January 8, 2009

snip….
Conclusion

Will Sunstein continue to push any of these views in his new position as Obama’s regulatory czar at OIRA? If so, how much impact will Sunstein’s views have on others in the Obama Administration, especially at the FCC? Or, have his views changed enough that we really shouldn’t worry?

Who knows. It may be that Sunstein will be too busy trying to mediate fights between agencies and other “czars” in the Administration — of which there seems to be no shortage these days! If, however, Sunstein’s views on the supposed dangers of the Internet and his proposals about how to address them do come to hold sway with others in the Obama Administration, we may be looking at even more insidious Internet regulation than I expected from this new crew. Sunstein’s thinking and proposals would have a profound impact on online freedom and the First Amendment rights of all online sites and speakers.

Cass Sunstein’s despicable ideas on regulating the internet

by Ed Lasky on July 12, 2009
snip………
Cass Sunstein, a Harvard Law professor who has been appointed to a shadowy post that will grant him powers that are merely mind-boggling, explicitly supports using the courts to impose a “chilling effect” on speech that might hurt someone’s feelings. He thinks that the bloggers have been rampaging out of control and that new laws need to be written to corral them.

Thanks so much. I am staying strong, as is Roxie. I have not made any decisions yet on how to proceed. Having gone thru this with my mother, and my dtr. I am at wits end on decision making at this point. Will talk to the vet on Tue or Wed. we will see.
I am still a failure at quitting the cigs. Will try again though.

———————————————————
This is the biggest crock of shit, yet another form of control from this pile of shit administration. This is something American’s cannot let happen. We already know they are watching every thing we say, everything we blog. But as far as I know we still do have a Constitution, and a first amendment. This is something we need to fight our hearts out on.
Remember the outcry when Tipper Gore wanted to censor music and books? there was the biggest revolt among Dems and Repubs. where is the outcry now?

79

WTF- can you say nepitism? Sounds like Chicago politics at work

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090831/ap_on_el_se/us_kennedy_succession_joe_kennedy
Kennedy would be an early favorite if he decides to run, likely discouraging other Democrats who might be reluctant to oppose a Kennedy so close to the senator’s death. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Monday set a date of Jan. 19 for a special election to fill Kennedy’s seat. The primary will be Dec. 8.

Detroit sets record for unemployment

By Ed Brayton 8/28/09 10:45 AM

While the state of Michigan has the highest unemployment rate of any state in the nation, the city of Detroit leads the way for cities. For the month of July, the unemployment rate in Detroit stood at a staggering 28.9% — and that’s probably undercounted in the same way all unemployment figures are due to the way such rates are measured. Still, it’s the highest rate on record for Detroit.

Ratify Equal Rights Amendment Florida -

http://www.ratifyeraflorida.net/facts.shtml

2009 NEWS! Florida’s
ERA Bills are now filed again: SCR 1008 & HCR 8003 (Senate and House bills) We are honored to announce that Bills to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment are filed again by our visionary, supportive Prime Sponsors, Senator Arthenia Joyner (D-Tampa) and Representative Juan C. Planas (R-Miami). Please email to thank them and tell them that YOU are working alongside with the Equal Rights Alliance to garner cosponsorships and get ERA heard—thank you so much: joyner.arthenia.web@flsenate.gov and jc.planas@myfloridahouse.gov.

89

FLBarbara 08.31.09 at 10:54 pm

Not sure if I hold much hope out for Florida and the ERA, the last time it died in committee. They decided it was “not important”. They did take up “boys gym shorts” and the ” bulls balls” that hang from the bottom of pick up trucks. It is now illegal in Florida to hang bull balls from a truck. Ohhhhhhh Thank God for weeks of discussing that.
Will not be on calendar again till 2010.
Sandy is the powerhouse in Florida for the ERA.

Anyone interested can contact her.

Sandy Oestreich, Founder/President, Equal Rights Alliance Inc at RatifyERA@cs.com We warmly invite your comments.

MamaPuma #298 previous thread

If you are still around I wanted to thank you for the link to the Boston Globe article.
People tend to forget that racism has two major characteristics. One is discriminating against or prejudgeing people based on their race, the other is promoting or supporting people based exclusively on thier race.
My black mayor Micheal Nutter (D) was called every name in the book for supporting Hillary over the black like him candidate Barak Obama. Of course it was the hip new democrats who felt so comfortable calling him things like a house negro etc..
Anyway. I promise you I’ll never vote for someone just because they are Italian American like me. I was always embarassed by a particular Italian American mayor of Philadelphia by the name of Frank Rizzo. He is dead now. Can’t say I miss him.

This is very worthy of attention. In addition to Obama’s desire to control the internet he is also trying to use the NEA (National Endowment For The Arts) to promote his glorious self.

goofsmom 09.01.09 at 1:07 am

Hey PUMAs,

Just read an interesting snippet on the Rasmussen poll page:

Snip
______
When the Constitution was written, the nation’s founders expected that there would be a 50% turnover in the House of Representatives every election cycle. That was the experience they witnessed in state legislatures at the time (and most of the state legislatures offered just one-year terms). For well over 100 years after the Constitution was adopted, the turnover averaged in the 50% range as expected.

In the 20th century, turnover began to decline. As power and prestige flowed to Washington during the New Deal era, fewer and fewer members of Congress wanted to leave. In 1968, congressional turnover fell to single digits for the first time ever, and it has remained very low ever since.

Linky for whole article again:
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/august_2009/57_would_like_to_replace_entire_congress

And since you bring it up, troll—which is it? You have yet to answer.

Were you a dupe when you posted on Aug. 14 that LaRouche was a “big supporter” of Hillary and that PUMAs should check out the link to his cult that you posted?

Were you a dupe? Have you thanked me yet for enlightening you?

Or are you still a follower?

129

Juliette 09.01.09 at 1:18 am

goofsmom #124

Thats is really interesting. It’s logical that the longer a member of congress stays in power the harder they will be to defeat. Although I really think that Chris Dodd is going to lose the next election. God I hope so.

130

Zee 09.01.09 at 1:20 am

Note how trolls bait. Mamapuma…where are you to tell the LaRouche troll to “focus?”

I know that Juliette is a troll because she used to post LaRouche crap at other sites, such as NoQuarter, during the primary season, too.

131

BillieJo 09.01.09 at 1:21 am

Sounds like a few states are taking up the ERA cause in congress again. We need 3 more states to ratify, 38 in total.
Fla seems like it should be for women’s rights (and mens).
Go Fla.

Big fat hugs.

134

Zee 09.01.09 at 1:28 am

Billiejo….if we only need three more, it should be doable…I like it when the overview is posted here. I’m not quite clear on the division of the team work vs main blog.

135

goofsmom 09.01.09 at 1:33 am

Juliette,

#129 – Yep, I thought that was pretty interesting too… especially since it was on Rasmussen… :)

136

BillieJo 09.01.09 at 1:33 am

Zee, we need as much help as possible. Right now we are working on states that are large and states that have not ratified the ERA, a duel purpose. The more PUMAs that help (hint, hint) the more states we can find women that are running for office, and point out the ones that support the ERA.
We need you there…you are the research link queen.
If you join, you can get your own page to work on a state or two and not have to trip over all the posts to see the info. Later, somehow we will let the pac see the info.
Many women have not committed to running for office yet, so this is ongoing for a little while, but not difficult.
Come on, join us.
I have my own Calif page with Hillary up top to encourage me.

137

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/08/29/AR2009082902434_pf.html

But even more interesting? I got the link to the WaPo article from HinesSight, which bills itself as the liberal answer to drudge report.

I go there all the time and kick Obot butt and misogyny. Richard Hines credits ElectWomen with a h/t for this Post article…one day after we spend an entire night on it?

Just wondering, Richard…and if I knew how to post a waving icon, I’d wave…
