ItsNotWhatYouThink

From ABC’s The Note:

“Yesterday, White House director of new media Macon Phillips wrote a blog post urging readers to flag questionable claims about health care proposals.

[Phillips wrote], ‘There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.’”

“Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House.” ???? Holy smokes, Pumas. This is baaad. Remember the Truth Squads in Missouri? This is waay worse than that.

From Zero Hedge (yep, even the Finance/Econ Blogs are picking up this story:

“Zero Hedge makes it easy for all law and constitution abiding citizens to rat on anyone and anything they think may be fishy by clicking here and notifying your favorite White House 1984 inspector. And please, 89.2% $50MM+ trading days in a quarter does not qualify as “fishy”, merely statistically impossible.”

(Not sure what the math thingies at the end of that are, but DO click on the LINK. The comments over there are pretty damn bracing.)

Read the full text of Cornyn’s letter HERE. It’s good. Here’re some snippets:

“Dear President Obama,

I write to express my concern about a new White House program to monitor American citizens’ speech opposing your health care policies, and to seek your assurances that this program is being carried out in a manner consistent with the First Amendment and America’s tradition of free speech and public discourse.

Yesterday, in an official White House release entitled “Facts are Stubborn Things,” the White House Director of New Media, Macon Phillips, asserted that there was “a lot of disinformation out there,” and encouraged citizens to report “fishy” speech opposing your health care policies to the White House. Phillips specifically targeted private, unpublished, even casual speech, writing that “rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.” Phillips wrote “If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

I am not aware of any precedent for a President asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed “fishy” or otherwise inimical to the White House’s political interests.

By requesting that citizens send “fishy” emails to the White House, it is inevitable that the names, email addresses, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported to the White House. You should not be surprised that these actions taken by your White House staff raise the specter of a data collection program. As Congress debates health care reform and other critical policy matters, citizen engagement must not be chilled by fear of government monitoring the exercise of free speech rights.”

The big news sites have picked up this story, so I wonder if Gibbs or obama will be forced to respond publicly. Anyone know whether if you’re a Senator and you write a letter to the president he has to, you know, answer the letter?

Either way, this calls for action.

Dear White House Minister of Information,

I am writing as a very concerned American citizen. I am also a member of Puma PAC, People United Means Action (http://pumapac.org). After reading about your program encouraging Americans to report instances of “fishy” speech by their sister and fellow Americans, we realized you had perhaps forgotten to read this before you got to the White House:

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress
    of grievances.

Please brush up on the United States Constitution. It’s a rather important document, and it is especially crucial that people in your line of work are familiar with it.

    Sincerely,
    Your Name and State

What ,iq said,

“Obamacare is in deep doo-doo because the Republicans seem to have finally found their mojo again. If there is one thing those GOPers are good at it’s being against stuff. That’s okay with me, because Obamacare IS deep doo-doo. A big steaming pile of it.

Obamacare is better off dead. Kill it, start over and this time do it right.

Teh Precious needs health care reform as badly as we do, but he only needs something he can call reform – we need the real deal. If Obamacare 1.0 goes down in flames he’ll have to come up with a better plan of he’ll go down in flames with it.”

I guess this counts as a “fishy” internet comment, but it came from the New York Times. Quick! Somebody call the White House and tell Macon Phillips that the NYT is saying mean things about obama care!

“WASHINGTON — Pressed by industry lobbyists, White House officials on Wednesday assured drug makers that the administration stood by a behind-the-scenes deal to block any Congressional effort to extract cost savings from them beyond an agreed-upon $80 billion.

un-freaking-believable.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/06/health/policy/06insure.html?_r=1&hp

Drug industry lobbyists reacted with alarm this week to a House health care overhaul measure that would allow the government to negotiate drug prices and demand additional rebates from drug manufacturers.”

more good stuff:

“Get a clue, guys. You took our votes and forced Obama down our throats in your primary rape fantasy and we’re not ever going to forget it. He turned out to be exactly what we said he was: an overly ambitious, shmoozing, political opportunist without a political philosophy, experience and hard earned relationships necessary to get things done. There’s no 11 dimensional chess going on here. Just a bunch of jerks who thought they could write off the votes of millions of people, many of them women, and get away with it. Go ahead and laugh. You’ll never get a penny from me. And you may never get my vote again. You don’t have to be a crazy nutcase birther to know the devils by the look in their eyes.”

Murphy, the Senate has cut some deals in their healthcare plan too. :(

http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/health/drugs/2009-07-28-biologics_N.htm

WASHINGTON — Lawmakers who count pharmaceutical companies among their biggest contributors lead the opposition to a health care proposal that would cut costs by allowing generic drugs to compete sooner with pricey biotechnology drugs, campaign-finance records show.
Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, has helped lead Senate efforts to give drug companies 12 years of exclusive rights to sell biotech drugs, rather than seven as proposed by President Obama. Hatch has received nearly $1.3 million from the employees and political action committees of drug and health products companies since 1989, making the industry his largest contributor, according to data compiled by the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

In the House, Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., whose district is home to dozens of biotech companies, is sponsoring a similar measure. Drug company employees and political action committees have donated $645,000 since 1992 to Eshoo — second only to the computer and Internet industry.

This year, she is the biggest recipient of pharmaceutical money in the House, the data show.

FIND MORE STORIES IN: Barack Obama | Orrin Hatch | Mike Enzi | Anna Eshoo
Hatch and Eshoo say the donations have no bearing on policy decisions.

“I’ve voted against them, and I have been with them,” Eshoo said of drug companies. In this case, she said, the 12 years are needed to help companies recoup their investments. Other drugs have five years of exclusivity.

Industries donate “because they agree with the principles espoused by the candidate,” Hatch said in an e-mail. ” I don’t believe they are trying to influence candidate’s decisions.”

The debate is part of a massive health care overhaul that is Obama’s top domestic priority — and comes as lawmakers look to cut federal spending to pay the estimated $1 trillion price tag.

There is no process for the Food and Drug Administration to approve generic versions of so-called biologic drugs. The complex drugs, made from living cells, are costly: A year’s supply of breast cancer drug Herceptin runs $48,000, the Federal Trade Commission says.

Wow, Murphy, I just posted the following on the previous thread! Talk about ESP or mental telepathy or whatever!

CJK 08.06.09 at 11:17 am

Good morning PUMAs! I just want to say thank you and a big approving PUMA roar to Murphy and HP for standing strong for the First Amendment!

My disgust over the ‘ideological cleansing’ that, IMO, has consumed way too much time/space/energy in the rest of the PUMAsphere is the reason I chose PUMA PAC to begin with. What occurs all too frequently on other blogs is a time-wasting pissing contest to prove who’s the most ‘liberal.’ We see where that sort of groupthink, groupspeak has led this country — the rotten outcome of such rotten thinking is sitting in the Oval Office. Anyone who does the hard critical thinking work to research, read, examine, re-examine, consider,
form their own individual conclusions and speak out accordingly about any matter is systematically drummed off the ‘purist liberal’ PUMA blogs for precisely that ‘crime’ — ‘ideological impurity.’ Such blogs attach an array of labels to the ‘ideological criminal’ (the very same tactic now being used by the DNC and WH to combat those speaking out against HR3200): Republican, rabid, rightwing, wackadoo, extremist, orchestrated, mob, disinformation, fishy, etc., etc. All simply because there are those who, by virtue of their own research and critical thinking ability, dare to disagree! News flash: Democracy is all about daring to disagree! In fact, I want a t-shirt that says ‘Ideologically impure and damn proud of it,’ and on the back ‘Democracy means daring to disagree, PUMAs roar, PUMAs rock!’

Wake up everyone! For more than a year and a half, I’ve been trying to point out that our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights are under more serious attack than ever. It really doesn’t much matter what our own specific ‘hot button issue’ may be. If we lose our individual freedoms, none of the rest of it is going to matter! If we want to preserve the principles of individual liberty on which America was founded, we all (no matter what party or what label any of us may choose/not choose for ourselves, if any) must work together. Divide and conquer has long been the successful battle strategy of the despot.

Thanks for listening, and thanks again to Murphy and HP. Continue to stand strong and roar your truth!

Obama doesn’t just want your emails, he wants your IP address too
http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/08/05/john-cornyn-takes-on-obamas-flagwhitehousegov-program-but-wait-theres-more-with-the-ntia/

adding on to Mr. Cornyn’s letter,

But wait . . . there’s more. Imagine, if you would, cross referencing those forwarded emails to the White House with another database the Obama Administration has ordered set up.

Congress adopted the Broadband Data Improvement Act in 2008 to compile of map of the nation showing which areas have broadband and which do not. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration is getting the information, but the Obama Administration has decided to use the NTIA to get more than the law requires.

Beyond the general data on which parts of the nation have high speed internet access and is it cable or DSL, Obama wants to know down to the individual what the individual has and how much the individual pays. Specifically, the NTIA is now requiring internet provides to give the government “average revenue per end user and data regarding type, technical specification or location of broadband infrastructure,” i.e. your home address, IP address, how much you pay, and where the connection is at your house.

The law does not require it. Congress does not want it. The NTIA admits the information will not be used to compile the map of national broadband, but Barack Obama still wants it.

We have a White House asking neighbors to turn in neighbors by forwarding emails — some of which will contain IP address information. And we have the White House demanding internet providers provide them with the home addresses corresponding to those IP addresses. Lastly, we have a White House that has thus far been extremely opaque despite pledges of transparency and a White House that has not hesitated to use private citizens information when it benefits them.

Be worried.

NikkisMom 08.06.09 at 11:35 am

Right on cue…..

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/beltway-confidential/Obamas-dissident-database-could-be-secret—-and-permanent-52571822.html

Senate Judiciary Committee lawyers studying the proposal say that although there is no absolutely settled law on the matter, the White House plan is likely not covered by the Privacy Act, which prohibits government agencies from keeping any records “describing how any individual exercises rights guaranteed by the First Amendment unless expressly authorized by statute or by the individual about whom the record is maintained.” Therefore, it appears the White House can legally keep records of the emails and other communications it receives in response to Phillips’ request.

Those lawyers also point out that the White House is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act, which means it would not have to release any information on the plan to members of the public who make a request.

In addition, the lawyers say the collected emails likely will be covered by the Presidential Records Act, which requires the White House to preserve and maintain its records for permanent storage in a government database. Phillips’ request suggests that whatever information the White House receives on health-care reform “disinformation” will be used to further the goal of passing a national health-care makeover, which is, of course, one of the president’s main policy initiatives. Such material, and whatever the White House does with it, would qualify as presidential records. Only after more than a decade would such records be publicly available.

“So the White House, whether by design or accident, has requested information from the public that will become ‘records’ under the Presidential Records Act, yet would be impermissible for any government to otherwise collect under the Privacy Act,” writes one Judiciary Committee source. “Where were the lawyers in all of this? What is their legal basis for authorizing the collection of these records?”

I posted this idea downstairs, and am saying it again. I never dreamed I would be seeing the kinds of things that area happening in America today. This taking of our privacy and our freedom of speech is unprecedented in U.S. History. The taking of our tax money (and more, by putting our country deep in debt) in order to give money to the fatcats of businesses so they can give it out in huge bonuses, and the cap’n trade bill are unbelievable, and this boondoggle of a so-called “heathcare” bill takes the cake! I am NOT “praising” GWB by saying this, but this is far far worse than anything I ever imagined during the past 8 years. I am saying this deadly quicksand of The One and his Greek Chorus behind him in Congress are far more dangerous to us, and to the country that we love, than the quagmire that we had the past 8 years. I hope and pray they can’t get away with what they are doing. This is only 8 months- less than 8 months! How can we ever survive 4 full years? ..or 8? Think about it. No, GWB was bad during those 8 years; but these 7 1/2 months of Obama are already far far worse, with another almost 3 1/2 years to come!

10

HopePuma 08.06.09 at 11:44 am

That said, I’m on my way to work for the day. I need to get to work to pay my portion of the trillions of dollars Obama etal are planning on spending!

11

CJK 08.06.09 at 11:47 am

“Obamacare is better off dead. Kill it, start over and this time do it right.” Murphy.

Truer words were never spoken, Murphy.

My question is: Aside from BO’s quite transparent need for a big victory, why, now, suddenly, must we rush to make sure that everyone (citizen and non-citizen) has health insurance — now, during the deepest economic recession/depression in 60 years???!!! This country is already trillions of dollars in debt, debt with which our children, grandchildren, etc.,will be burdened for years to come. And that’s just to cover the funds this power-mad BO WH and Congress have given away to Wall St. and their political cronies. Before we allow them to put us even further in debt by throwing $1.3 trillion at another complex problem that can’t be solved with a trifling trillion dollars, yet another BO ‘czar’ and yet another monstrous, ineffective government bureaucracy, can we not FIRST try to get this country back on its feet economically??? Can we not FIRST require that our members of Congress hold public meetings with a diverse spectrum of the actual constituents in their districts across this country to determine what type of healthcare reform is actually needed, then compile the results of those meetings and put together common sense legislation to make sure that those needs are met??? Why would Americans want a so-called ‘healthcare reform’ bill that has been crafted based on the so-called ‘research’ of health insurance companies, the most rapacious handful of whom will be the ones the government will tap to actually adminster its national health insurance program under the monstrous government bureaucracy, with forced contributions from every American taxpayer???

HR3200 is NOT about ‘healthcare reform,’ it is about letting a handful of powerful insurance companies (United Health Group, Wellpoint, Aetna, Humana, Cigna, et al) monopolize the health insurance industry by setting up a monstrous government bureaucracy that they will essentially run, making huge profits by 1) draconian cutbacks on healthcare services, jobs, facilities, equipment; 2) forcing people to participate in the government insurance plan – all funded with American citizens’ hard-earned tax dollars; and 3) allowing the government and a handful of powerful insurance companies to make every healthcare decision, entirely ignoring the individual and her/his needs/wishes. HR3200 is a violation of every American’s fundamental, Constitutional right to privacy in all healthcare decisions.

If this sounds like rightwing talking points to anyone, so be it. Call out the ‘ideological purity’ police. This bill is pure BO corporatist-control-with-a-PR-nod-to-the-impoverished bullshit, and anyone who’s read any part of it knows it.

Tempers flare in South Florida over healthcare overhaul

A raucous group of about 100 protesters confronted staffers of U.S. Rep. Ron Klein, expressing their displeasure with the healthcare overhaul bills being considered in Congress.

Though only a handful of constituents typically show up at the Lighthouse Point public library once a month with questions for U.S. Rep. Ron Klein’s staffers — often questions about Social Security checks or passport applications — this time about 100 people packed the room for two hours.

Klein plans to hold a healthcare forum in his district this month — via telephone.

He brushed off suggestions that he is trying to duck face-to-face encounters.

Tenn County Dem Chair Calls Obamacare Protesters Nazis
August 6, 2009

-By Warner Todd Huston
Remember how The Obamamessiah was going to bring us a gauzy new world of love, respect, harmony and “post” political debate? Well, apparently the Madison, Tennessee Country Chairman for the Democrat Party, Robert Hill, doesn’t much care for an elevated form of debate. He’s more about calling people that oppose him Nazis.

The white haired, name calling Demo couldn’t resist going on the local Young Republican’s website and calling anyone that opposes Obama’s socialistic take over of the nation’s healthcare system a bunch of “brown shirts.”

So much for that new, post partisan world of serious debate that team Obama was going to create, eh?

If you’d like to tell the aging Dem chair what you think of his even tempered, adult style of debate, do email him at: trhill@hillboren.com.

He’ll likely have his secretary Eva email you right back.

The New Vision by MCDP Chair T. Robert Hill July 27, 2009

The election of President Barack Obama introduced the political world to a new vision for America, a vision of hope and inclusion, bottom to top politics, and ”a government for and by the people”, as originally intended. This election marks a new direction for the country, with governmental transparency for its citizens and activist opportunities like no other time in history. Over the past 8 years, Americans have realized that complacency is expensive. As a result, many have become more politically active than we could have imagined. Moreover, it is happening locally, too.

Well, waddya know:

After 6 Months, More View Obama’s Presidency as a ‘Failure’ Than Bush’s
Posted by Tom Bevan

A rather surprising finding from the newly released CNN poll. Question three on the national survey of 1,136 adults (which includes an oversample of African-Americans) asks, “Do you consider the first six months of the Obama administration to be a success or a failure?”

Thirty-seven percent (37%) said they believe the Obama administration is a “failure,” while 51% consider it a “success” and 11% say it’s still “too soon to tell.”

An identical question was asked of the Bush administration in an August 2001 CNN/Gallup/USA Today survey. At the time, 56% said the Bush administration was a “success” while only 32% considered it a “failure.”

http://realclearpolitics.blogs.time.com/2009/08/06/after-6-months-more-view-obamas-presidency-as-a-failure-than-bushs/

On this link there is another link that leads to the report by CNN phone poll and here is some of it:

I also sent this letter to Senators McCaskill & Bond 2 days ago. Might be a good idea to prowl them also!

August 4, 2009

RE: Totalitarianism – Whitehouse searching for inoffizielle Mitarbeiter (ie, Request by Whitehouse to report on opposition to HR 3200)

Dear Senator McCaskill,
In all my life I have never seen anything like this.
The Democrats call dissenters divisive, but this is openly pitting Americans against one another. It’s repulsive. Americans have the RIGHT to dissent & discuss and not agree with our government. You should remind Mr. Obama to read the Constitution, just in case he’s unfamiliar with it and you should consider reading it yourselves!
I could not imagine ever sending to a conservative White House the comments of any web poster or my friends, just because their views differ from the government at the time.
I think we should have every American who is appalled by this White House’s Quisling Program on a given day to openly wear a symbol on our clothing in a manner similar to when the Nazi’s made Jews sew yellow Stars of David on their clothes.
This is Totalitarianism. I’ve pasted the definition here for you.
Totalitarianism (or totalitarian rule) is a concept used to describe political systems where a state regulates nearly every aspect of public and private life. The term is usually applied to states such as the Soviet Union, National Socialist Germany, Democratic Kampuchea, Vietnam, Cuba, Mao-era and North Korea. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of an official all-embracing ideology and propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, a single party that controls the state, personality cults, central state-controlled economy, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics.

Sincerely,

GREAT PROWL MURPHY! Wow, I feel energized! (I guess I just put myself on the enemies list! I turned MYSELF in!) A little comment abt. some issues that came up last night. Think of the POWER PUMA could have if we could find what we all agree on and UNITE!

This was my prowl. I added the stuff at the end ’cause of the BCC’s, and I wanted THEM to read what I would be saying at town halls. Thank you Murphy for expanding the BCC’s. Really feel CNN should get our prowls, too, as well as other stations apart from Fox. (Like speaking to the choir)
—————————-
Attention Macon Philips, White House Minister of Information

“The stakes are too high for government to be a spectator sport!”-Barbara Jordan

I HAD been a voting DEMOCRAT for over 40 years, but the Democratic party no longer represents my voice. I no longer consider myself a Democrat, and I am NOT a Republican, EITHER. I am NOT a radical right-wing fanatic, and I DO NOT see myself as Astroturf. If I choose to attend a town hall meeting, dressed up, or comfortably attired, my appearance should not be a “clue” to my political persuasion. My frustration and anger HAVE NOT been manufactured. I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, and the Constitution guarantees that I have a right to address any injustices I witness, and to peaceably assemble to challenge my representatives by freely expressing my grievances. After reading about your program encouraging Americans to report instances of “fishy” speech by their fellow Americans, it is my feeling that you, as well as our members of Congress need to be reminded what the First Amendment of the Constitution really says!

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or

prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of

the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the

Government for a redress of grievances.

The United States Constitution should be respected and adhered to for ALL decisions made on behalf of our country and its people, and I WILL speak up if I feel my voice is not being heard! That is my right as an American citizen in a DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY. It is especially crucial that people in your line of work are not only familiar with the Constitution, but adhere it it!

Obamacare is better off dead. Kill it, start over and this time do it right! FIX the parts that are broken, REGULATE THE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND PHARMACEUTICALS, study and learn from the systems that ARE working, improve Medicare and Medicaid and give the uninsured insurance through the waste that has been found. BE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE! I HAVE TO BALANCE MY BOOKS, AND SO DOES THE STATE. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO GET WHATEVER THEY WANT ESPECIALLY IF I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, AND I HAVE TOLD YOU I DON’T WANT IT. Reckless spending without accountability is irresponsible, and if we are not listened to at town hall meetings, the voting booths will allow us to speak up!

Sincerely,

Analysis: Bill Clinton as a diplomatic fix-it man

:snip:

For all of those who wondered what Bill would do in Hillary Clinton’s diplomatic world, wonder no longer.

As details of the Clinton mission came out, it was revealed that the North Koreans themselves asked for Clinton, promising amnesty for the women upon delivery of the former president, whose visit eluded them while he was in office. The deal was done even before Clinton stepped on the plane.

goofsmom – #58…. I was scared to send it from my personal email addy for awhile. I don’t trust the govt. at all and tend towards the paranoid when it comes to them. HOWEVER, in order to overcome my fear of them, I decided to face them. In reading Sun Tzu-the art of war, he says:

“Soldiers when in desperate straits lose
the sense of fear. If there is no place of refuge,
they will stand firm. If they are in hostile country,
they will show a stubborn front. If there is no help
for it, they will fight hard.”

I’m still skeered   , but it calms me to know that I will have good company in the re-education camps.

Of course, while in camp, I may wish I had done as you suggested.

Obama’s dissident database could be secret — and permanent
By: Byron York
Chief Political Correspondent
08/06/09 4:47 AM EDT
The White House request that members of the public report anyone who is spreading “disinformation” about the proposed national health care makeover could lead to a White House database of political opponents that will be both secret and permanent, according to Republican lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee who are examining the plan’s possible implementation.

Linda Douglass, head of communications for the White House Office of Health Reform, says the White House is “not compiling lists or sources of information” on opponents of health care reform. But if “fishy” information is indeed collected, as Phillips’ request suggested, the laws involved mean that the information obtained by the White House could not only be secret but permanent. A dissident database, in whatever precise form it ultimately takes, could be around for a long time to come.

While I know that many of you will disagree with some of her comments, Pamela Geller brings up many good points.

Racism’ Cries a Tired Obama Double-Standard
Thursday, August 6, 2009 2:19 PM
By: Pamela Geller

A real brouhaha has ensued since the appearance of the “socialism” poster of Barack Obama made up as The Joker. Once again, great Americans are being branded as “racists.” Steven Mikulan said in the LA Weekly that the poster “has a bit of everything to appeal to the drunk tank of California conservatism: Obama is in white face, his mouth (like Ledger’s Joker’s) has been grotesquely slit wide open and the word ‘Socialism’ appears below his face. The only thing missing is a noose.” And Bedlam Magazine charged: “The Joker white-face imposed on Obama’s visage has a sort of malicious, racist, Jim Crow quality to it.”

Patriots, be on notice. This is the favorite tactic of the left. Any criticism of Obama, no matter what or how legit, will be labeled racism. Tea party? Racist! Opposition to socialism? Racist! Opposition to nationalized healthcare? Racist! Opposition to cap and tax? Racist! Opposition to the ethnic cleansing of Jewish people in Israel? Racist!

This tactic used to be effective. One case study is the 2006 Virginia Senate race, and the destruction of George Allen’s re-election campaign by the “macaca” incident. A presidential contender was destroyed by a leftopathic lie, despite the fact that the charge of racism was utter nonsense. Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s insult to Indian people went unremarked and unnoticed in the mainstream media.

The media has also ignored the real significance of the Obama Joker poster. It isn’t racism; it’s a sign of America’s rude awakening. The editor of the American Thinker, Thomas Lifson, observed that the poster showed that the inevitable backlash against Obama’s far-left policies has begun: “It is starting. Open mockery of Barack Obama, as disillusionment sets in with the man, his policies, and the phony image of a race-healing, brilliant, scholarly middle-of-the-roader.” But Lifson noted that “the President’s supporters have condemned the image, calling it ‘mean-spirited and dangerous.’ ”

Message from Organizing for America:

We have a big weekend ahead of us! The Watermelon Festival is coming to Carytown once again. This festival offers a HUGE opportunity for us to collect health care declarations. Last year, approximately 100,000 people were in attendance. We could easily knock out our goal in one day!

Also, it is important to note that the Richmond Tea Party will be present at the Watermelon Festival. I found this from a local group:

============================== ===================
RICHMOND TEA PARTY has secured a vendor tent at the Carytown WATERMELON FESTIVAL, Sunday, August 9th. This will allow us to hand out fliers about healthcare, and educate festival goers about plans the government has to come between patient-doctor relationships.

Why: To educate taxpayers and reach out to the community with our message of Fiscal Responsibility, Free Markets and Individual Rights. Collect signatures AGAINST Government Take-Over of our Healthcare; Petition will be delivered to the Offices of Senators Webb and Warner. To have a counter presence to Organizing for America which is working to implement massive government control over every aspect of our lives.

The White House is pushing this plan against the Will of the People. We must continue to push back. The month of August 2009 will be one of the most important months in our nation’s history.
============================== ===================

They were right about ONE thing: The month of August 2009 will be one of the most important months in our nation’s history. I urge you to help us fight the smears and build support for health care reform!

Watermelon Festival Canvass (Sunday)Aug.9th 10am
to 6pm.We need as many hands on deck as possible.

118

scarlet 08.06.09 at 5:16 pm

Organizing for America (OFA) is getting a lot of people asking questions and expressing concern about the health care bill. They have not been getting many answers. This is what one poster said to the name calling posters.

Donna No Shock Barack No Drama Obama of MD Today at 1:49 pm EDT (Updated Today at 1:49 pm EDT)
A lot of people are paying attention for the very first time. They are responding to messages being sent from OFA as well as the President himself not to mention the media is driving a lot of concern.

If you think someone is not sincere please try and answer their question in a thoughtful way before calling them names or assuming the worst. I know there are articles out there stating that people are being paid to come here and disrupt but we need to show a bit of decorum here because we really need all hands on deck. After a few questions and answers you will be able to tell if they are sincere or not but can we please stop jumping to conclusion on every poster that comes here with a question or concern.

Take a moment to see where there concern is. I think that we have all been here long enough to be able to tell who is sincere and who is not.

I just got home from work and will be leaving shortly to go visit a cousin. This came in my email, though, and I want to make sure everyone sees is. This is an AARP meeting to talk about the so-called healthcare bill. I liked particularly the gentleman who started talking shortly after 5 minutes into it, although the whole thing is great.

Obama Administration Withdraws Ahmadinejad’s Elected and Legitimate Statement
Professor Barry Rubin

In “Obama Administration Recognizes Ahmadinejad as elected leader of Iran,” yesterday, I wrote:

“Was this an error? Did [White House spokesman Gibbs mess up? Did the State Department get on the phones to the White House and urge some “qualification” on this statement? We will see but no hint of that yet.”

Sure enough, today Gibbs corrected the statement:

“Let me correct a little bit of what I said on Tuesday. I denoted that Ahmadinejad was the elected leader of Iran. I would say that is not for me to pass judgment on. He has been inaugurated – that is a fact. Whether any election was fair, obviously the Iranian people still have questions about that and we will let them decide that.”

White House: ‘War on terrorism’ is over
Jon Ward and Eli Lake WASHINGTON TIMES

It’s official. The U.S. is no longer engaged in a “war on terrorism.” Neither is it fighting “jihadists” or in a “global war.”

President Obama’s top homeland security and counterterrorism official took all three terms off the table of acceptable words inside the White House during a speech Thursday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington think tank.

“The President does not describe this as a ‘war on terrorism,’” said John Brennan, head of the White House homeland security office, who outlined a “new way of seeing” the fight against terrorism.

The only terminology that Mr. Brennan said the administration is using is that the U.S. is “at war with al Qaeda.”

“We are at war with al Qaeda,” he said. “We are at war with its violent extremist allies who seek to carry on al Qaeda’s murderous agenda.”

Ok, I really need to go start my evening wine, but a libertarian friend just called who had been listening to Rush  today. I know, I know…. Anyway, she said that a caller pointed out that there is legislation written into the bill that will allow the GOVERNMENT to access your bank accounts directly to take money out to pay your bills in the public option plan, if you don’t pay them on time yourself.

I had told her that PUMAs were reading the bill, so she called me to ask me about it.

Has anyone read that in the bill yet???

A First-hand view of a Raucous Town-hall meeting by ABC news

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/08/a-first-hand-view-of-a-raucous-town-hall-meeting.html

There were no lobbyist-funded buses in the parking lot of Mardela Middle and High School on Tuesday evening, and the hundreds of Eastern Maryland residents who packed the school’s auditorium loudly refuted the notion that their anger over the Democrats’ health care reform plans is “manufactured.”

“I went to school in this school,” a man named Bob told me. “I don’t see anyone in this room that isn’t from Mardela Springs right now.”

“We’ve been quiet too long,” said a woman named Joan.

They came to yell at their congressman, freshman Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil, and they were surprised to hear that the “Congress in Your Corner” event to which they had been invited — by a robocall from Kratovil himself — was not to be a public airing of grievances, but instead an opportunity for private, one-on-one sessions with the freshman Democrat.

As the crowd grew, and began venting frustration over the fact they would only be meeting with the congressman behind closed doors, Kratovil’s aides suggested he switch to a town hall format.

The aides seemed nervous. Last week, someone hanged Kratovil in effigy outside his district office in Centreville, Maryland.

“I am here because I understand that I do represent you folks, okay?” Kratovil said, after entering the auditorium to applause. “The opinions that you folks have, I need to know. There are legitimate concerns.”

Just then, someone in the audience shouted back, “Our freedom is being taken from us!”

Kratovil is a Blue Dog Democrat who signed onto a letter last month urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to delay a vote on a health care reform bill until after the August recess. His officially “undecided” stance on health care reform makes him a prime target for frustrated constituents already miffed that he voted for the House Democratic leaders’ energy bill last month, after initially telling voters he was “undecided” on Cap and Trade.

Anyway, she said that a caller pointed out that there is legislation written into the bill that will allow the GOVERNMENT to access your bank accounts directly to take money out to pay your bills in the public option plan, if you don’t pay them on time yourself.
——————————-

Section 1173A a-2-D Page 58: Calls for a National Health Plan Beneficiary Identification Card for every person and the ability to determine a persons individual financial responsibility and eligibility prior to, or at the time of service.

In this section it says: …determination of an individual‘s financial responsibility and whether the individual is eligible for a specific service with a specific physician…..

Section 1173A a-4-C Page 59: Requires the ability to have electronic funds transfer from insured account to the federal government automate reconciliation of health care payment.

(From what I can determine there will be no billing – they just take out what you owe from an insured account – whatever that is)

Section 1173 is not in order – it is at the beginning of the health care bill.

132

persephone 08.06.09 at 7:04 pm

sure

reach right in and take money out of people’s bank accounts.
that will be mandatory under the law, not optional.

that is one slippery slope. our liberties are being eroded.

the government should not take money out of private citizens’ bank accounts without their permission.

we oppose the legislation, they aren’t listening, and we will be made to pay for it by allowing the government access to our bank accounts.

Obama cannot have another term-he is really destroying America.

133

persephone 08.06.09 at 7:08 pm

I have no representation in Congress.

John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and Nikki Tsongas are not interested in my opinions, unless they agree with Obama’s agenda. (they don’t)

Yet they want access to my f*cking bank account. Yeah, sure.

Hey Murphy,

I have been posting on the NYC Craigslist/Politics board and got into it with a couple of ‘bots over PUMA. Apparently they think you are the big dog behind the Pumasphere and have been posting some of the HCR Debt stuff to try and discredit you. I guess I should tell you that I invited them to file an FEC complaint with the FEC if they thought you were hiding something. I even offered them the link. If you need any help with an audit, I am good with numbers. As I have been finishing up some stuff on the FECK obama Complaint, I hope to be posting an update some time soon.

In the meantime, I would just like to say I think it is timely for PUMA to get out there and blog the PAC around because alot of people are realizing how much they have been deceived. This business with the return of the “Truth” Squad is very disturbing. Obama is a malignant narcissist. I think he will be getting very ugly as he fails.

This sounds as if it works very much the way Texas unemployment benefits or so called “food stamps” work. Each recipient has a debit card, with so much deposited into that card’s account on regular basis. To spend that money, you swipe the card and access the specific account connected with it. It’s not the holder’s checking or savings account, but the account set up solely to go with that card, into which the government, not the recipient, has deposited money.

There’s enough wrong with 3200 without inventing further problems. Its single greatest drawback is that it will kill any chance we may have at single payer for a decade or more. It deserves to die on that basis alone.

If the problem for you is that all citizens must participate in a program–i.e., that it’s involuntary–then state your objection as such.

If the government deposits money into a special account assigned to you–not into your private checking or savings account–then withdrawals from that account are not coming out of your own checking or savings account and shouldn’t be represented as coming from your private accounts. Whether participation in the insurance program is voluntary or involuntary is an entirely different question.

I’m getting a lot of things in my email from people. I haven’t had a chance to verify this, so if someone in here can verify it I would appreciate it. This is what a friend sent me:

“This Sunday on Fox Sean Hannity, of Hannity & Colmes ~ Fox
news, is going to air a very important documentary about Barack Obama,
Sunday night at 8:00 PM central / 9 PM eastern. He stated on the air this
evening that no one in the news media was willing to do this. Hannity is
going back to Obama’s earlier days, showing even then his ties to radical
professors, friends, spiritual advisers, etc., he stated this evening that
he will show in detail his ties to Rev. Wright for 20+ yrs. How he was
participating with this man, and not for the reasons he states! He has
uncovered more of Obama’s radical leaders and we will see things that no one
in the media is willing to put out there. This will be a night that you will
learn more about Obama than ever before Hannity is very passionate about
this program and asked that everyone please, please watch~~ Sunday night, 8
PM. CT; 9 PM ET Please pass this on to everyone you know. Democrat or
Republican, you can learn from this. It is critical for our country.”

I have the perfect idea for future PUMA protesting.

A little patch of astroturf made into a hat. A sign that says, “Lift my Astroturf and you will find an angry DEMOCRAT!!!!”

210

honora 08.06.09 at 10:15 pm

I leave tomorrow morning for a lake-side cabin in New Hampshire. It will be great, no internet or cell phone service. I think it will be wonderful for the Mr. ( a complete workaholic) and the two teenage daughters, but I am starting PUMA withdrawal and I have not even left yet.

I must admit that since I miss all the great stuff, I may re-emerge a week from Monday and discover that Obama admitted he is a Kenyan and not eligible to be president, Biden will have had health issues necessitating his resignation and Pelosi will decide that she loves the House and that Hillary should be president.

Hillary’s first speech is to demand that all Democratic elected officials support single-payer and in their euphoria they pass true national health care.

I should have gone on vacation earier. She you all when I get back.

One question for this evening (because I’ve had too much single-malt scotch already;) How is BO asking American citizens to rat out their neighbors who may oppose HR3200 and gathering this info into a permanent digital database any different than Nixon authorizing the Watergate breakin to spy on his political opponents? Nixon was impeached for Watergate. Can’t BO be impeached for ‘fishy-gate’? Just askin’ (sorry for the slightly slurred post…)

213

BillieJo 08.06.09 at 10:26 pm

goofsmom 08.06.09 at 10:42 pm

Just saw the guy from WSJ on Greta. He says the unemployment numbers tomorrow are the worst in 26 years (I think; though the scotch has me somewhat foggy…) Also, we’re at more than 9 percent unemployment, with 15 million Americans unemployed. Millions who used to be employed full time, are now working part time. Millions have just given up looking for work. I know how they feel…

221

WOW… my typos suck… sorry, will be back on the desk top tomorrow…. Ya! … I just got in from a fire rescue evacuation….. It was about 40 minutes from
Riverside…toward Temecula… I got there in 20 minutes…. I had all of my crates (for dogs and cats) collars, leashes and water for them and the people too…. also, snacks for all…. The whole mountain was on fire on the 79 hwy heading toward temecula…. tonight for our so cal puma ch 4 news will be covering the story…. So, many people and not enough time to get out…… They took what they could leaving alot of wonderful animals behind…. But, the good news…… with dozen planes and at least that many fire trucks on the ground they were able to keep the homes from burning… I would say at least 400 home were ordered for immediate evac…… very scary with a great outcome…. Thank goodness today was cooler low 80’s….. Just wanted to share…. Something that started out horrible…. actually ended up on a positive outcome…. Tonight, everyone returned to their homes with their animals and reuniting with the ones left behind…..

Thank you for the update on the fire… It was wonderful to hear that everyone was reunited and at home… sigh… they don’t always give that detail in the news.

All pro-obamacare articles and email sound fishy to me. I’ll be forwarding links and any email I receive from selected officials to Comrade Obama Inc.

You’re right, simo. It reeks of McCarthyism. Been thinking that since the primaries and as Murphy points out the “Truth Squads”.
====================================

This is the angle more disturbing than any other to me. This is training the “kids” to be snitches. This is red China. And no, by that I don’t mean Obama is “leftist” or “marxist” — I am talking about taking over society by “reporting” people.

As far as the evil of gathering our info, more savvy PUMAs than I should check out Cannonfire. Joseph has something up about Facebook gathering all the IPs and info through our “friends.” I am not into social networks and can’t follow the conspiracy theory outlined there…but it should definitely be added to the caveats of our rapidly unfolding distopia.

” email from the library so they don’t get your IP addy…”

Our library makes you sign in for a computer. They have your name, which computer you used, the time you were using it. Librarians are probably the least willing people in the US to “snitch” but it’s built in…at least at our library.

304

goofsmom 08.07.09 at 1:41 am

Zee,

#303 – well that sucks… Use an “O” fan’s computer… hehehe

“Obama’s snitch progrm, good. Bush warrntlss wiretaps 2 catch terrorists, bad.”

Well put. This is how we descend into hell, one step at a time. First the morons gave Obama a pass for reneging on his promise to filibuster if necessary to hold the telecoms responsible for spying on Americans. He gave them IMMUNITY. Not a peep from the Hopium-addicts. Now he orders them to “inform.” Where will the Good Little O-Germans draw the line?

306

Zee 08.07.09 at 1:47 am

Hey Goofs! Well, we only get an hour at most at our library…and the kids are hovering around to swoop in if anyone has time left over. I mean little kids, who want to play computer games.

Very important post. The loss of fear…it’s not always a good thing, but it does come.

Yeah, they called Bush a fascist for a reason. And the problem with Zerobama is that he is CONTINUING Bush policies, not that he’s (yawn) “socialist.”

81 shadowfax,

That is a hilarious poster! TGW headlined it! :)

#90 FL Barbara…I want to see that in a cartoon NOW! Can Hillary send Bill to spring us all in advance??

311

goofsmom 08.07.09 at 2:05 am

Zee,

Wow, that is pretty bad…

312

Zee 08.07.09 at 2:16 am

Hmmmm….low-flying helicopter over my house at 2:12 am….I am busy these days, but if I disappear… :o

313

goofsmom 08.07.09 at 2:19 am

Zee,

Quick peek out the window and see if it’s a black helicopter… hehehe…

I ya disappear… I’ll find ya… I’ll use your puppies to search for you…

314

Zee 08.07.09 at 2:38 am

Heh, goofs…be sure to bring the wine yeast to slip me once my hound tracks me down. It did circle back around but is gone now.

254 sheila—interesting…arresting people, huh? And it seems to be pro-Obama people getting arrested from those accounts. Maybe they’ll wake up to the police state threat. Please, please keep us apprised of the local accounts. This is how it’s always been. Local reports only on protests…we can’t rely on the national “narrative.”

315

goofsmom 08.07.09 at 2:48 am

Zee,

It was probably looking for another anti-”O” agitator… Making a list now… wine yeast, nail files in cupcakes…

316

Zee 08.07.09 at 2:53 am

Well, I made it through the thread…not sure when I’ll be back. But just wanted to note that I found out another woman is running for office in my city. I spoke with her and another woman this evening about how we’ll never have a woman president if more women don’t run at local levels. They clued me into some new women’s initiatives and ways to “conference” online. I will pass on when I get the info sent to me. This will anger PUMAs…the woman running for council told me her opponent’s line of attack is that she’s “just a housewife.” She wants to reframe the attack into what that experience translates into.

Just a thought: I think this last election disaster has awakened a sleeping giant: American women.

317

Zee 08.07.09 at 2:56 am

Heh, Goofs. If I had a gun, knew how to shoot it, and didn’t have arthritis hatching in every aching joint in my hands, they’d never take me alive. (wish I could make the angry cat face!!)

Of course, we could all just move in with Persephone, and stand behind her. ;p

318

goofsmom 08.07.09 at 3:00 am

Zee,

I look forward to the info when you post it… Have a good night and I’ll see ya when I see ya…

:)

My computer has been down for over a week so I apologize if I am covering/repeating things that have come and gone, discussion wise, while I have been absent.

Pajama media has the best satire on the Joker/Obama poster. It was linked on Real Clear Politics. http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/is-obama-really-like-the-joker/

What I have believed since March 2008, has never been tested as fact more than in the past few weeks…what Obama did in Chicago is what he planned to do in the White House. I thought it back then, and it is a fact right now.

Use the poor to get himself in government, manipulate government, take money from the government to raise himself up, then use the poor to enrich himself and his friends using government money, then move up the next rung of the ladder, leave behind the poor, and then use a new group of poor people, take government money…etc. On and on it goes.

It has worked for him for so long that it must be like learning the times table and putting it to use over and over again. Funny thing is, no one ever became president by reciting the times tables over and over again…until Obama came around.

X amount of poor people TIMES X amount of federal dollars = money for Obama and friends.

Problem for Obama? Hell no. He really believes that there is a big barrel of cash that will be his for the taking as long as he smiles and jokes around and parties it up with his buddies. Obama really believes that Axelrod knows what he is doing. He thinks he is invisible and no one can see what he is doing as long as he talks.

Of course Goldman Sachs and Soros back him. He is feeding them every dollar ever created in the U.S. by stripping the companies and people of their earnings. This has gone way past socialism and I wish the critics would catch up.

The Obats/Obots are going wild on amazon.com attacking Malkin’s book as well as Glenn Beck’s and Levin’s book. They were first sent to attack Atlas Shrugged, which people rightly picked up on as the book that described in 1957 what would be happening in 2008. Now they have to diversify since there are multiple books exposing Obama. They cannot keep up. That is a good sign. Apparently there are not as many of them as they would like us to believe.

Time to take this down is now. Not in 2012. Not even in 2010. No Cap and Trade and No Obama/Pelosi Health Insurance Care Plan. If Obama cannot be impeached then he needs to be a lame duck.

I am still so sorry for those who voted for him with the best hope. Too bad they didn’t see the joker for who he is. I hope they can see him for what he is now.

yes, I object to being forced to participate in a program

yes I object to the government extracting my hard-earned money to pay for said program.

yes I object to this administration’s trampling of my privacy and liberty.

I will go down fighting.
