If Hillary were president, we’d probably have Bill bringing peace to the Middle East and Africa while she was busy giving us universal health care, kicking Wall Street’s ass into the East River, and actually fixing the economy rather than trying to “put a brighter face on it.” (the photo caption writer at the NYT has a case of the sillies today.)

Jackasses.

Good stuff HERE (check out the pic of Laura Ling playing Guitar Hero) and HERE.

Update with video Goofsmom found last night. As dwp said, very moving. Very presidential.

my congresswoman’s office is emailing local Dem organizers warning them that Tea Party activists are going to “crash” her voter-meet event on Saturday at a local supermarket. he actually has the GALL to try to twist this in an Orwellian way:

“Tea Party folks are trying to get a bunch of people to show up to crash the event – to make it a news story that the attendees were against the health care reform.”

Err, no YOU JACKASS, Nikki Tsongas’ CONSTITUENTS are pissed off and want her to know it!! Does he actually expect us to believe that Dick Armey is personally funding and paying activists from OUTSIDE THE AREA to storm the Market Basket on Main Street in sleepy Chelmsford Massachusettts on a Saturday morning???

it’s a new jackass every minute some days.

Think I remember seeing a poll this morning saying something like 7 out of 10 people surveyed thought they would be attending one of the tea parties. So, the republicans are orchestrating and funding these? 7 out of 10? Yeah, right.

7

HopePuma 08.05.09 at 9:27 am

By the way, this may be a really strange thought, but do you suppose the timing of the release of the 2 journalists was “planned” as a distraction? I can’t help but wonder if we might see a lot of things happen in the month of August, timed primarily to “take our attention” (and the media’s attention) off of what is happening in the town hall meetings during this month? If we see something else big “happen” right after the excitement of the release of the journalists, I think we know what to expect then: one after another all month. Just a thought. We’ll see if it pans out as the month progresses.

As we watch Massachusetts go down the tubes you all can get a preview of what it’s going to look like in the rest of the country:

“Health fund for jobless runs low
Surging enrollment empties state coffers Businesses chafe at talk of tax hike

A unique state program that helps pay most health insurance costs for 27,000 unemployed Massachusetts residents is on the cusp of going broke, setting off a debate between healthcare advocates and business leaders who say funding it is a burden on companies fighting for their survival.

The state’s Medical Security Program, financed solely by a tax on employers, will run out of money in January because of the surge in unemployment over the past year, state officials said yesterday. The most logical way to maintain it, officials said, is to increase the per-employee tax, which hasn’t been raised since 1990.”

Poll: Americans Want Health Care Town Halls in their Communities
http://www.nowhampshire.com/2009/08/05/poll-americans-want-health-care-town-halls-in-their-communities/

Contrary to charges from Democrats that the recent spate of contentions congressional town hall meetings are the result of “Astroturf” and “manufactured anger,” a new CNN poll finds a huge majority of Americans would likely attend such a meeting on the issue of health reform if one was held in their community.

According to the poll conducted between July 31 and August 3, seventy-one percent of respondents would attend “a town hall meeting or some other public forum where voters get a chance to speak” to “tell [their] member of Congress what [they] think about health care.” Forty-one percent say they are “very likely” to do so.

#24 – persephone…

here’s the irony in all this. The congresscritters could have taken a smaller, initial swipe at healthcare with some of the TARP / cash for clunkers money and covered *some* amount of people by expanding Medicare right away, instead of bailing out banks, or helping people buy more foreign cars. And enforce some immediate laws (that I would support & for which I’d throw a fireworks show), to cover pre-existing conditions & catastrophic illness? (this is just a short list of what’s wrong – I know there’s others).

Remember the old saying – the best way to eat an elephant is one leg at a time, not the WHOLE elephant at once!

Isn’t getting *something* done, better than *nothing*??? For chrissake!!

30

persephone 08.05.09 at 10:14 am

#29

Agree-immediate coverage for the uninsured. Cut the crap, aasholes-get your priorities straight.
If Nancy’s marsh mice are getting funded there must be money to expand Medicare.

But it’s not really about getting people healthcare.

Another irony is the DNC yelling about “special interests” fighting healthcare reform at Townhalls.
Hogwash-the special interests love Obamacare.
They ran pro-Ocare ads on tv for chrissake.

*head explodes*

So far the MSM has chosen to support the Obamatron line that opposition to their brand of health is being manufactured (no shock there) but I don’t think that can last. As W2 and company desperately email, text, tweet and I don’t know, send smoke signals, to manfacture “counter” opposition to the opposition, even the dumb*ss media won’t be able to overlook the irony. I may be the only one left who still allows the *ssholes at the DNC to send me emails, but they are begging people come out and support there lame reform. They haven’t offered any money for support but it is still early. When the media gets bored with the “birther” non-story I think they may have to actually cover “serious” opposition, at least a little.

Poll: Americans Want Health Care Town Halls in their Communities
Forty-one percent say they are “very likely” to do so.

Your post prompted me to repost #222 from yesterday. Apologies to all who saw it already. I just want to encourage anyone so inclined to EXPRESS YOUR THOUGHTS AND ASK THEM TO TAKE NOTES IF A TOWN HALL IS NOT SCHEDULED.

HUGS TO ALL WHO EXPRESSED THEIR SUPPORT TO ME YESTERDAY. (I also sent an email listing my thoughts in emails to Greta and Hannity. I AM SICK OF HEARING THAT PEOPLE EXPRESSING OUTRAGE ARE RIGHT WING LOONS, OR ITS ALL JUST MANUFACTURED1

MY post from resterday
—–
California Pumas, and all for that matter!
I just called my two Senator’s district offices closest to me. Neither one is scheduling town halls or office hours. They offered to take notes. The more I talked, the more I felt REPRESSED feelings OVERWHELM me. I found myself saying things that were NOT a part of my “script.”

SOME of these things I said were:
-I have been a voting Democrat for 40 years, but no more!
-I am disgusted with what I ONCE called my party . . MORE DISGUSTED than I was of the 8 years with Bush. (stealing votes, caucuses, May 31, no roll call in Denver, etc, etc. etc.!))
-Democrats are acting like “kids in a candy store” now that THEY “have the power,” and they are doing what they want and don’t want to hear from anyone!
-When people speak out, we are all labeled right wing Republicans, and we are not! The anger being expressed IS NOT MANUFACTURED!
-I have to budget, and balance my books every month and I can’t have everything I want, and our state has to balance a budget every month. Because of that, as a teacher, I have seen cuts in education that drastically impact me, my colleagues, and my students (teachers dismissed, class sizes increased, supplies limited). At the state level, and at home, we have to all tighten our belts, but the federal government doesn’t?
-How come our government can spend money on anything they want and there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY? How come I have to be fiscally responsible, the state has to be fiscally responsible, but the Democratic controlled federal government gets what they want, increases our taxes so WE pay for it, and then our children and grandchildren have to pay for it too, because our taxes still won’t cover everything? I EXPECT MY GOVERNMENT TO BE FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE, BECAUSE I HAVE TO BE!

I made some suggestions:
-Have a REAL DISCUSSION about health care before you throw everything out!
Figure out what is broken and fix it!
-Fix Medicare, and Medicaid, and expand it for the uninsured.
-Study systems and programs that are working and incorporate them. I belong to an HMO and it’s working and I like it! It operates in the black because it eliminates the middleman (insurance) Obama’s grandmother had an HMO and he thought it was a very efficient, effective system. Learn from the systems that ARE working
-REGULATE insurance and pharmaceutical companies!
-Whatever program is decided upon, Congress and their families need to have it, too! What is good enough for me is good enough for Congress and their families, ESPECIALLY since I have to pay for it!

I encourage anyone, so inclined . . if you can’t find a town hall meeting, call your representatives and givem an earful! They BOTH took notes, asked questions, and didn’t have much to say!

Hello, paging Fannie and Freddie!

Go into any car dealer and tell them you’d really like a new car but your credit sucks.

Wanna bet they tell you that is not a problem?
Any jackass can get a car loan.
So what if a jackass loses their job and defaults?
Guess we’ll have to bail out those poor lenders, goddess forbid our economy might crash otherwise.

This is another program that illegal aliens can benefit from.
They don’t pay taxes but will benefit from the *suckers* that do.

3 billion in funds to this program. 3 effing billion.

http://gretawire.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/08/04/what-happened/?action=late-new

I am surprised by the DNC press release below. What happened to the FIRST AMENDMENT and our strong appreciation of it – even when we don’t agree? Even if protests get loud (but not violent), is not that what many of us love about America? And aren’t signs and T-shirts – even unflattering ones – something that is an expression of that right, whether you agree or not? Whether it be protests against the war in Viet Nam, Iraq, etc….doesn’t it say something about our country that we can gather and raise our voices? As a lawyer, I have represented many protesters – some I agreed with and some I did not – but always because I thought the right to protest an important one. Protests are not always tasteful discussions – but rather expression of free speech. Contrast our country’s protests with what happened in Iran after the June 12 election, right? – Greta

from Obama’s Organizing for America site:

By BarakaWolf the GREEN WOLF Today at 3:46 am EDT (Updated Today at 3:46 am EDT)

I was at one of the Listening Tour events this past evening in my town. The thing everyone was talking about was: a.) Our Congressman’s town hall in two weeks, and b.) The townhallers’ distruption tactics, and how we were going to counter them.

We came up with some ideas:

- Come early, lock up the front with friendly faces.
- Ban outside signs in the assembly hall.
- Should we get some Teabaggers in the hall and they start their reindeer games, don’t answer them. Don’t try to shout them down and turn it into a melee between rival gangs of crows and magpies.
Simply get up, and go up to stand with the Congressman. We steal back the power they’re trying to take by force and trickery, and put them on the spot.

This is what democracy is about.
Take heart, friends! The majority of Americans want healthcare reform. The numbers and the momentum are on our side. Show the Teabaggers that they’re not just the minority, but the lunatic fringe.

Since you guys have some time, can you round up those in your community who are NOW struggling with health care issues, have them front & center, testifying BEFORE your Congressperson gets onto stage?

Maybe their REAL stories will humble-embarrass those who are there only to disrupt and jeer???
—–
Instead of a Listening Tour, maybe the community organizers should read the bill.

Rancho, I have a question about your HMO. Can you go to a specialist without a referral? Are drs covered who aren’t in your “network”? Let me tell you my story and that of 2 relatives, and 2 friends. If we had been in plans where we couldn’t go to specialists without a referral, or if we hadn’t been free to go wherever and get coverage, we would be dead today, all 3 of us.

My story: about 30 years ago I had terrible back pain. My family dr put me through a whole battery of tests, everything he knew to do and found nothing at all. He started to say it was all my head. He couldn’t send me to a specialist, because he didn’t find anything wrong to know where to send me. On my OWN I went to Mayo and was kept in there for a whole week putting me through so much stuff every day for a solid week, 8 hours a day, that I couldn’t believe it. At the end of the week they told me I had 5 ulcers in a rare location where my dr never would have seen them on the back of my stomach wall area. However, left untreated, those ulcers would have invariably turned to cancer and I would have been dead in less than a year. They treated them, the back pains went away, and I was fine.

My aunt lived in Wisconsin and she had a similar situation. Her pain was in front rather than her back. She was in agony. Her drs also couldn’t find what was wrong when they put her through every test they knew. She went to Marshfield (the Wis version of Mayo) and they found ulcers in a rare location for her too.

My mom’s cousin had brain cancer behind his left eye about 45 years ago. The drs and cancer specialists decided to do surgery on him. Before the surgery my mother begged him to go to Mayo for another opinion, and he went. They kept him there for a month discussing the situation and planning. Mayo told him in no uncertain terms that he never would have survived the surgery had they done it in his local hospital when it was scheduled. The treated him with radiation. He lived until just 2 years ago and was just fine.

A fourth instance is a friend who has a rare eye disease. She was on an HMO and her regular eye dr refused to send her to a specialist because “he’d take care of her”. Well, he didn’t know beans about this rare disease, and she went blind in that eye.

A fifth instances was another friend who went to 5 different drs, on her own, begging for them to help her- she was going blind in both eyes little by little. Each one told her she was get “getting old” (she was in her early 50′s). The 6th one identified the problem she had and fixed it. Thank God her insurance covered all the drs she went to.

I don’t like HMO’s because every one that I’ve ever heard of won’t send you to a specialist until the GP thinks you need one, and there is no coverage for drs outside the plan.

Nobody knows your body better than you do yourself. We need to be able to go wherever we need to go in order to find answers and help.

From Scarlet’s #42 link:
The Press Release (by the same schmucks who dragged obama over the finish line he otherwise would have never crossed.)

“For Immediate Release

Date: August 4, 2009

Contact: DNC Press Office

Phone:

Statement from DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse on the Republican Party and Allied Groups’ Mob Rule

The Republicans and their allied groups – desperate after losing two consecutive elections and every major policy fight on Capitol Hill – are inciting angry mobs of a small number of rabid right wing extremists funded by K Street Lobbyists to disrupt thoughtful discussions about the future of health care in America taking place in Congressional Districts across the country.

However, much like we saw at the McCain-Palin rallies last year where crowds were baited with cries of ‘socialist,’ ‘communist,’ and where the birthers movement was born – these mobs of extremists are not interested in having a thoughtful discussion about the issues – but like some Republican leaders have said – they are interested in ‘breaking’ the President and destroying his Presidency.

These mobs are bussed in by well funded, highly organized groups run by Republican operatives and funded by the special interests who are desperately trying to stop the agenda for change the President was elected to bring to Washington. Despite the headline grabbing nature of these angry mobs and their disruptions of events, they are not reflective of where the American people are on the issues – or the hundreds of thousands of thoughtful discussions taking place around kitchen tables, water coolers and in homes.

The right wing extremists’ use of things like devil horns on pictures of our elected officials, hanging members of Congress in effigy, breathlessly questioning the President’s citizenship and the use of Nazi SS symbols and the like just shows how outside of the mainstream the Republican Party and their allies are. This type of anger and discord did not serve Republicans well in 2008 – and it is bound to backfire again.

Brad Woodhouse
Communications Director
Democratic National Committee

Charles Krauthammer – On the administration’s denunciation of protesters at health-care town halls:

“There is a certain irony in an administration denouncing ordinary Americans who get together to express what they believe and to confront authority, when that administration is led by a man who began his career as a community organizer, whose job, as I understand it, is to take ordinary Americans, get them together to express what they believe, and express demands against the authorities.

So it’s unbelievably hypocritical. And, of course, as we just heard, this only happens when you have a conservative protest. It is called a mob. If it’s a liberal protest, it is called grassroots expressing themselves.

Remember, just a year ago under the Bush administration, dissent was the highest form of patriotism. And today it is a kind of either organized anger, it’s a facsimile of anger, it’s unpatriotic, it’s whatever.

Look, there is a genuine revolt against the idea of remaking a [health-care] system when over 80 percent of Americans have health insurance. Five of six of those are happy with their health care, and four of five are happy with their health insurance.

You have an administration arrogantly deciding it is going to tear it all up, start all over, and people are surprised that there are protests, and say that it had to be manufactured? Of course it is spontaneous. [If] people go together on a bus, that’s entirely legitimate, and it ought to be encouraged.”

It’s a three hanky view. Be warned that they insisted on throwing in shots of Zerobama walking to a podium to speak on the women’s release. But even those are worth it because they show that unlike every other human who was either smiling warmly or crying tears of joy, this empty suit narcissist was pouting, pursing his lips and almost scowling in every single picture! He was obviously peeved at being upstaged.

Health insurance industry pushes back on Democrats

Karen Ignagni, the president and CEO of the trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), said the industry would take its case directly to the American public via a television advertising campaign and by dispatching insurance company employees to public events staged by Democratic members of Congress during the August recess.

Ignagni said the industry is not launching a full-scale attack but instead will emphasize the reforms it supports and argue that its opposition to creating a government-run “public option” insurance plan does not signify its opposition to reform.

“Health plans were the first of the stakeholders to come to the table with a comprehensive proposal to reform our own sector,” Ignagni said.

Before Obama was even sworn into office, AHIP endorsed proposals that would require its members to enroll anyone, regardless of pre-existing medical conditions, and to place limits on charging higher premiums based on age, health status or gender, among other policies, according to Ignagni.

The industry’s support for these reforms is contingent on the government mandating that nearly all individuals obtain health coverage, a policy included in each of the Democratic healthcare bills pending in Congress.

During the congressional recess, AHIP will continue its ongoing ad campaign by highlighting the reforms it supports rather than focusing on the public option or other proposals it opposes. “The best way to address it is straight-up,” Ignagni said, “to talk about what we’re for.”

HopePuma.
I’m sorry for the delay. I had some phone calls.

By advocating for support for HMO’s I hope no one feels that I am saying that HMO’s are the ONLY way to go. I just feel that ALL options need to be considered, and studied. When I saw Greta’s piece on Cleveland Clinic, it looked very much like my HMO! Your experience sounds awful! My HMO is Kaiser Permanente, the same as Obama’s grandmother. Obama stated once when asked about his grandmother . . ” So my grandmother was generally very happy with her care, and if we could actually get our health-care system across the board to hit the efficiency levels of a Kaiser Permanente or a Cleveland Clinic or a Mayo or a Geisinger, we actually would have solved our problems.” A piece in The Wall Street Journal recently said “Integrated health systems like Kaiser Permanente, which serve as both insurer and care provider. . .are much more likely to deliver cost-effective care that keeps their members well because these organizations are involved in both delivery and financing of care.” I’ve been in this HMO for 40 years and you really have to LEARN the system. They are a well-oiled machine that can cut costs because their is no insurance company. My daughters and my husband all had major surgeries, with incredible doctors, and great follow-up. NO wait time! My record is on line, and I’m tracked electronically, for mammograms, etc., and I have a GP (that I requested) that is very thorough and conscientious. I never have had a problem getting referrals to a specialist, and once you are in the system, checkups are not a problem. I make my own optometry and dermatology appointments, since I had an initial referral years ago. I go to one of the regional Kaiser hospitals for major needs, but my GP is at one of their clinics down the street, and that’s where I take care of optometry, and well-care needs and prescriptions. I like the fact that my records can be transferred within the system electronically, wherever I go, and MANY states have Kaiser. If they don’t, I’m compensated when traveling and I might need care or assistance. If I am really sick, I go to the local hospital, and I am triaged and treated. I really don’t care who I see, and I usually see whoever is on call. NO complaints here, either. My mother is NOT in Kaiser, and she doctor-shops all over Southern California. She likes to go on line and look for “the best” for whatever part of the body she is concerned about at the moment. (At one time she had 8 different medications for her blood pressure, and she was taking them all! If they don’t tell her what she wants to hear, she fires them, then goes on line to find another one. Again,I have no complaints, but I know others have. Again, you have to learn how to work with and learn the system. There is NO perfect system. I think for those who have problems anywhere, one needs to ask, is the grievance with the doctor, or with the system. If it’s with the doctor, change doctors! and find another one. If it’s with the system itself, then leave it. I’ve had problems with some doctors so I have changed, but I have NEVER had a problem with the system!

How to Fix the Health-care wedge

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204619004574324361508092006.html

A patient-centered health-care reform begins with individual ownership of insurance policies and leverages Health Savings Accounts, a low-premium, high-deductible alternative to traditional insurance that includes a tax-advantaged savings account. It allows people to purchase insurance policies across state lines and reduces the number of mandated benefits insurers are required to cover. It reallocates the majority of Medicaid spending into a simple voucher for low-income individuals to purchase their own insurance. And it reduces the cost of medical procedures by reforming tort liability laws.

By empowering patients and doctors to manage health-care decisions, a patient-centered health-care reform will control costs, improve health outcomes, and improve the overall efficiency of the health-care system.

Congress needs to focus on reform that promotes what Americans want most: immediate, measurable ways to make health care more accessible and affordable without jeopardizing quality, individual choice, or personalized care.

Because Mr. Obama has incorrectly diagnosed the problems with our health-care system, any reform based on his priorities would worsen the current inefficiencies. Americans would pay even more for lower quality and less access to care. This doesn’t sound like reform we can believe in.

Obama Healthcare plan draws majority disapproval – poll

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aM56e_kb2m9Y

President Barack Obama’s effort to revamp the U.S. health-care system is drawing increasing disapproval from Americans worried about higher deficits, a Quinnipiac University poll shows.

The July 27-Aug. 3 poll found that 52 percent of American voters disapprove of the way Obama is handling the health-care issue and 39 percent approve. That’s a switch from the 46 percent who approved and 42 percent who disapproved in late June, the university’s polling institute said.

Almost three-quarters of the respondents said they don’t believe Obama’s promise that Congress can pass a health-care measure without adding to the budget deficit. And 57 percent say the legislation should be dropped if it adds “significantly” to the deficit, Quinnipiac said.

“It’s obviously a problem for the people who are trying to push health-care reform,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Hamden, Connecticut-based polling institute, in an interview with Bloomberg Television. “The White House and Democratic leadership are very concerned that the month of August not become the time when the plan died.”

Why Obamacare doesn’t sell

http://finance.yahoo.com/expert/article/futureinvest/180476

It is true that Medicare is the big “budget buster” over the next two decades and that improving the delivery of health care will improve the long-term economic outlook. But why, in the midst of the worst recession in 75 years, do we have to rush into a mammoth reform of the health care system, especially one that will significantly increase our already swollen deficit?

Health care is contentious enough that Obama should not move ahead until he has some consensus. Perhaps he should appoint a bipartisan commission to study these issues come up with a set of recommendations.

To use Obama’s own words, we need reform we can believe in, not just a new government program financed by higher taxes, new mandates and a trillion-dollar price tag.

Ruh-roh, Raggy – “71% Say Obama’s Policies Have Driven Up Deficit”

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/august_2009/71_say_obama_s_policies_have_driven_up_deficit

Seventy-one percent (71%) of U.S. voters say President Obama’s policies have increased the size of the federal deficit, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Only five percent (5%) say the president’s policies have cut the deficit, and 10% say they have had no impact. Thirteen percent (13%) are not sure.

Eighty percent (80%) of investors say Obama’s policies have driven up the deficit, a view shared by just 57% of non-investors.

Not surprisingly, 88% of Republicans blame the president’s policies, compared to 52% of Democrats. But 79% of voters not affiliated with either party agree.

HopePuma 08.05.09 at 12:34 pm

#92- Rancho- I did. Thanks. I still have a huge question mark about the GP giving referrals, though. I had heard that most HMO’s actually penalize GP’s who do referrals very often, leaving them feeling they have to handle all but the most extreme cases themselves. Then there are the cases (like mine) where the dr can’t find anything on their own and doesn’t have a clue where to refer them; and other cases where some drs are just so “I can do it myself” mindset that they keep you without a referral until it’s too late. I still say the best case is where the patient can judge by their own body that something is wrong, and are able to keep going wherever until they find the answer and help. If their first stop, their own GP, can find it and solve it, then the search is over and all is well. But if that GP can’t find it, they need to be able – on their own- to go to someone (even if they are outside that “network”) to help them.

One other thought on this: HMO drs are given a manual to follow that says what procedures are “covered” for conditions. The cheapest ones are the ones that are “covered”. No choices. I know when I had leg surgery a couple years ago I was told what options of kinds of surgeries and treatments I had for ME to make my own choice. If I had been on an HMO I would have been told what the manual said to do, the cheapest way. What I chose wasn’t the cheapest way, but it was the best way for me personally at that time. HMO’s are designed to be “cost cutting” which means cutting something, usually choices of care and drs. To me, my health and life is the most important thing on earth, more important than fancy clothes or fancy steaks, and being able to choose the best ways for me personally are important. HMO’s tend to put everyone in the same “box” (this is the procedure for this problem). People, though, are all individuals with individual needs and individual sub-problems and conditions. Just as we are all as individual as our fingerprints and DNA, our healthcare needs to be just as individualized.

Q But he won’t take time to read it front to back –
MR. GIBBS: I don’t know what his vacation plans are currently. Will you read the health care bill cover to cover?
Q Yes.
MR. GIBBS: Excellent. Well, great. I’m right up the hall to the left.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Briefing-by-White-House-Press-Secretary-Robert-Gibbs-8/4/09/

What about at least 72 hours to read it ourselves?

——
Last Friday, more than 300 pages of legislation was put into the bill. It is still not posted on the internet. I just don’t think the final bill will be on the internet. Too many people have read what they have so far and it seems that the legislators who haven’t read the bill themselves don’t want others to read it.

What makes this all hypocritical is that the Democratic Party leader; President Obama called for similar aggressive grass-roots tactics when he was on the campaign trail:

“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said. “And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’ If they tell you, ‘Well, he’s going to raise your taxes,’ you say, ‘No, he’s not, he’s going lower them.’ You are my ambassadors. You guys are the ones who can make the case.”

Dems vs. Dems

The real political news this month isn’t Republicans vs. Democrats, and certainly not insurance companies vs. Democrats. If anything, the health-care business lobbies are helping Democrats by keeping quiet and hoping their silence buys their survival as heavily regulated utilities. If the insurance companies were any quieter, they’d be Trappists.

HopePuma-
I think we can’t assume ALL HMO’s are the same, but again none are perfect either. I’ve personally NEVER had a problem with referrals, and the four of us in our family have had MANY! The doctors work TOGETHER as a team in the same building, and if you have a particular unique problem, there are enough Kaiser hospitals in the state that I could be referred to, that do specialize. (My daughter needed eye surgery, and the doctor that specialized in that particular surgery was in another local city, so that’s where she went) The family has had many complicated procedures with NO additional costs. I have NEVER been deprived of any treatment that I felt I should have. My dermatologist wanted me to try a medication for a skin condition that was not covered in the plan because the medication was still experimental. He researched it for me and found two pharmacies, one in Canada, and one back east that carried it. He wrote me a prescription and I paid the full price for it. (Kaiser has their own pharmacies in their hospitals and clinics, with discounted prices).

Everyone’s situation is different. I just don’t want ANYONE trying to fix something that isn’t broken for a lot of people, then give me something else that I don’t want, and tell me I have to pay additional for it with taxes now and in future generations . . and you can BET that in any plan the CONGRESS would like to mandate on us “drs WILL BE given a manual to follow that says what procedures are “covered” and for what for conditions.

Whe can’t they study ALL the systems that ARE working for people, and use what they learn to improve? Fix what is broken first, then build from there?

“People, though, are all individuals with individual needs and individual sub-problems and conditions. Just as we are all as individual as our fingerprints and DNA, our healthcare needs to be just as individualized.”
EXACTLY! And some of us LOVE our HMO’s! :)

Mr. Odinga joked about the vote as he welcomed Mrs. Clinton at the trade conference. “In Africa, in many countries, elections are never won, they are rigged,” he said, cracking a grin and pausing for a moment or two before introducing Mr. Kibaki.

Another great piece of information..passed and added that “O” was born in Hawaii?? Why was this added to this bill?? Now it is passed by law that “O” was born in Hawaii??

This was intr in the house by Abercrombie..his parents are tied back to “O’s” mother through an anti gov group..he also attended school with “O”. H. RES 593 passed July 27 2009

Senate passed July 28 2009…. S. RES 225

Hey pers, murphy, hp, all PUMAs! Time to roar! I say, if the fed revenues are down by that much, why not exacerbate that decline as much as possible? How about maxing out all exemptions? How about avoiding paying a dime until and unless we get true representation in the WH and Congress? How about ‘representation BEFORE taxation’?

I’m with ya on that one CJK but PUMAs are afraid of landing in the clink for tax fraud. I say, if you pay it at the end of the line, by April 15th, where is the fraud? You choose to hold on to your own moeny until the last minute…
I think this would be a powerful protest if enough people did it to show it is a protest. A few little PUMAs will not raise any political flags.

the One is calling on his Obots to come out & fight the opponents of healthcare.

Wanna bet they haven’t even read the bill that they’ll be trying to defend? How rich will this be – fighting a mind-numbed obot with the facts at a townhall?!?!

————————————————-
from President Barack Obama info@barackobama.com
reply-to info@barackobama.com
subject This is the moment

This is the moment our movement was built for.

For one month, the fight for health insurance reform leaves the backrooms of Washington, D.C., and returns to communities across America. Throughout August, members of Congress are back home, where the hands they shake and the voices they hear will not belong to lobbyists, but to people like you.

Home is where we’re strongest. We didn’t win last year’s election together at a committee hearing in D.C. We won it on the doorsteps and the phone lines, at the softball games and the town meetings, and in every part of this great country where people gather to talk about what matters most. And if you’re willing to step up once again, that’s exactly where we’re going to win this historic campaign for the guaranteed, affordable health insurance that every American deserves.

There are those who profit from the status quo, or see this debate as a political game, and they will stop at nothing to block reform. They are filling the airwaves and the internet with outrageous falsehoods to scare people into opposing change. And some people, not surprisingly, are getting pretty nervous. So we’ve got to get out there, fight lies with truth, and set the record straight.

That’s why Organizing for America is putting together thousands of events this month where you can reach out to neighbors, show your support, and make certain your members of Congress know that you’re counting on them to act.

But these canvasses, town halls, and gatherings only make a difference if you turn up to knock on doors, share your views, and show your support. So here’s what I need from you:

Can you commit to join at least one event in your community this month?

In politics, there’s a rule that says when you ask people to get involved, always tell them it’ll be easy. Well, let’s be honest here: Passing comprehensive health insurance reform will not be easy. Every President since Harry Truman has talked about it, and the most powerful and experienced lobbyists in Washington stand in the way.

But every day we don’t act, Americans watch their premiums rise three times faster than wages, small businesses and families are pushed towards bankruptcy, and 14,000 people lose their coverage entirely. The cost of inaction is simply too much for the people of this nation to bear.

So yes, fixing this crisis will not be easy. Our opponents will attack us every day for daring to try. It will require time, and hard work, and there will be days when we don’t know if we have anything more to give. But there comes a moment when we all have to choose between doing what’s easy, and doing what’s right.

This is one of those times. And moments like this are what this movement was built for. So, are you ready?

Please commit now to taking at least one action in your community this month to build support for health insurance reform:

http://my.barackobama.com/CommitAugust

Let’s seize this moment and win this historic victory for our economy, our health and our families.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

heh. some blogger linked to my “All Women Are Feminists” post. Apparently he runs an utterly un-ironic blog dedicated to eradicating feminism. His post has 3 comments calling me a dumbass. Each one is special in its own delicious way, but I like this one the best by far:

” trent13 said…

yeah, she’s pretty much an idiot. I’m not one to call names, but that’s just a fact.

If one is saying that being a part of the female sex = feminism than it would go the same way for men and mysogony (right?) Whatever – I don’t really see how one would even be able to have a rational conversation with someone who decides to come up with things that are so far out in left field as to be entirely out of touch with objective reality.

Oh, and another thing, if she can’t appreciate Aristotle… well, like I already said, she’s an idiot.”

House Orders Up Three Elite Jets
August 5, 2009
By Paul Singer
Roll Call Staff
Last year, lawmakers excoriated the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington, D.C., by private jet to attend a hearing about a possible bailout of their companies.

But apparently Congress is not philosophically averse to private air travel: At the end of July, the House approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to buy three elite Gulfstream jets for ferrying top government officials and Members of Congress.

The Air Force had asked for one Gulfstream 550 jet (price tag: about $65 million) as part of an ongoing upgrade of its passenger air service.

But the House Appropriations Committee, at its own initiative, added to the 2010 Defense appropriations bill another $132 million for two more airplanes and specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of Congress, military brass and top government officials

They have…govtrack.us..shut down..I guess so we can’t go in and see what bills have passed and what is in them..what are they hiding??

Even Thomas is hard to pull up by bill number…and is trying to block information. Never had that problem before..

And we thought the Rep’s were bad..they are starting to look like Sunday school teachers…and this adm is looking more and more like the thuggs we knew they were from day one!

OK report me to the Gov…my bad!

What is GARS?

The Geriatric Attrition Rebate System (GARS) is a $1 billion government program that helps families conceive or adopt a more economically-productive citizens when they trade in a less efficient older citizen. The program is designed to energize the economy; reduce strain on already overtaxed social safety nets, and put more efficient tax-paying citizens into the future workforce.

Familes will be able to take advantage of this program and receive a $3,500 or $4,500 discount (or $5,500 if the trade-in is a registered Republican) from the hospital when they trade in their old citizen and give birth or adopt a new citizen. Families do not need to register anywhere or at anytime for this program. However, to find out eligibility requirements click here.

Your trade-in must be more than 65 years old on the trade-in date
Your trade-in must be a close relative, no more than twice removed, rebates will not be paid unless proper genetic testing documentation is provided.
Only births of same or higher quality qualify
Generally, trade-ins must be incurring at least a combined $1500 per month in Medicare and Social Security costs (some Members of Congress have different requirements)
Trade-ins must be on Medicare and Social Security continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
You don’t need a voucher, hospitals will apply a credit at purchase
Program runs through Nov 1, 2059 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in, and that the hospital disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.
