imagine

Imagine if sexism were policed, both socially and literally, as strongly as racism is.

ATWATER [California] — In the past several months Atwater City Councilman Gary Frago has sent at least a half-dozen e-mails to city staff and other prominent community members containing racist jokes aimed at President Barack Obama, his wife and black people in general.

In all, the Sun-Star obtained seven e-mails that Frago sent from October 2008 to February 2009 from an anonymous source.

Some compared Obama to O.J. Simpson while others suggested that “nigger rigs” should now be called “presidential solutions.”

Perhaps the most overboard e-mail was sent on Jan. 15. It read: “Breaking News Playboy just offered Sarah Palin $1 million to pose nude in the January issue. Michelle Obama got the same offer from National Geographic.”

(h/t Mablue)

Yep, that’s pretty damn racist. But, can you even imagine a world in which sexist “jokes” were treated the same way? It’s difficult, no? Every morning dances and/or I clean out the spam filter of anywhere from 30 to 60 pornographic comments (with a fair number of cialis and adderall ads in the mix). I gotta tell ya, it’s a really sucky job (dwp gets there before me almost every day, so if it’s depressing for me it must be even moreso for her.) Teen handjobs, teens having sex with animals, Granny porn, incest of every possible variety, torture videos. It’s disgusting. It’s perverted. It’s assaulting. And it’s 100% legal. To even object to it invites people to call you a whiner or a frigid, uptight, sexless hag.

I’m not saying all pornography/erotica is inherently sexist, some of it probably isn’t. But that’s not the point. Not all ethnic jokes are offensive. Or are they? We’ve advanced socially to the point that most people object to Italian/Polish/Catholic jokes almost as strenuously as they do to racial jokes. That’s great. But nagging wives still sell beer on TV. And bitchy, back-biting women still form the majority of television roles. Bimbo jokes? No problemo, especially when aimed at the governor of Alaska.

As I said earlier, the important question is WHY? Why do public women invariably become targets of SEXIST attacks? Pelosi’s looks, Clinton’s Cankles, Janet Huckabee the Ugly Dog, Palin the Bimbo, etc etc. Why is it socially acceptable to target ANY woman with sexism?

When obama is targeted for attacks on his politics/policies/resume/job performance etc etc it is perfectly acceptable. But when he’s targeted for racist attacks everyone but the most diehard neanderthals objects. Strenuously.

But women in politics dont get that. I dont know why it’s so difficult for some people to see the distinction between attacking a politician on substance and attacking him with racist stereotypes of gorillas or slaves or black-man-as-animal. Oops, when I type it that way, EVERYONE gets it. But if I type: I dont know why it’s so difficult for some people to see the distinction between attacking a politician on substance and attacking her with sexist stereotypes of bitches, uppity women, or woman-as-sex-object of men. When typed THAT way, otherwise intelligent people seem to temporarily lose some brain cells.

As Hillary supporters we saw first hand how frenzied and insane the Clinton Derangement Syndrome was. We correctly identified the very level of vitriol aimed at her as inherently sexist.

Unfortunately, some on the Left continue to be either willfully or ignorantly blind to the damage done TO THE LEFT and our principles of Palin Derangement Syndrome.

The problem for the Obama Movement during the Primaries was how STRONG Hillary’s support was. They didnt count on that. They also didnt count on how strong and capable SHE was .And since they couldn’t kill Clinton on policy, campaigning, politics, resume, or public support, they killed her with sexism and cheating.

Which is exactly why the continuing countenancing by those on the LEFT of CDS or PDS or any other sexist attacks on public women is so pernicious. If Clinton had run in an environment in which sexist attacks were utterly impermissible the Obama Movement would have been left with only cheating to win.

And then he would have lost.

So. Yup, I’m going to continue to object to PDS and to encourage Sarah Palin to run for President. Even if I don’t freaking vote for her I really WANT her to run. This nation has a SERIOUS woman problem. And the only way we’re going to solve it is if we KEEP TALKING, keep fighting sexism whenever and wherever it shows its ugly face, and keep encouraging MORE and MORE women to enter the race. Sarah Palin IS a target of sexism. She’ll likely lose if she chooses to run because of the double and triple standards applied to women who run for office, not to mention the truly appalling sexist caricatures the LEFT won’t stop drawing of her.

But in order for us to live in a world in which sexism is policed as strongly as racism is, we’re gonna need a few more martyrs.

Maybe we can get Jimmy Carter to run as her VP and he can keep talking the disgrace of woman bashing in every literal sense. He will do just fine probably outlive Biden who has a terminal running off at the mouth disease, hoof and mouth.

PALIN/CARTER that’s the ticket!

Boy, am I one pissed off PUMA today. I even went prowling around some of the boards where obots post so I could tell them AGAIN what I thought of “THE ONE”, but they have been silent for about a day now.

The obot gushers were messing all over themselves because the DOW did a little better last week http://www.flickr.com/photos/31592459@N08/3731645548/

BO’s Rasmussen Approval Index is -8% and has been averaging -7% for the last week or so.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

HOW ABOUT A PROWL FOR PALIN on those nuisance ethics charges. Why are presidential resources going into making mess instead of developing solutions to the economic mess he has made worse?

Massachusetts Universal Health Care Cuts

As lawmakers on Capitol Hill battle to create a nationwide health care system to cover all, Massachusetts is struggling to keep the state’s groundbreaking universal coverage program up and running.

Facing a massive budget shortfall, lawmakers are cutting roughly 30 thousand legal, taxpaying immigrants out of the state subsidized Commonwealth Care program.

Health Care for All, a Boston based advocacy group, is taking hundreds of calls on their help line from people like El Salvador native Eugenio Hernandez who is battling prostate cancer and will be among those losing coverage.

16

persephone 07.18.09 at 12:22 pm

Hi Zee!

MA has been trying to hold the HC program together until Obamacare passes, as it’s being held up as some sort of model (ha!)

Hospitals that serve the poor are being forced to cut services (BMC and Cambridge Hospital) because of reduced payments by the state.
Cambridge hospital will be forced to shut down part of it’s psych facility (one of the state’s few) and also an inpatient clinic for substance abusers.

Massachusetts in Suit Over Cost of Universal Care
By ABBY GOODNOUGH
Published: July 15, 2009

BOSTON — A hospital that serves thousands of indigent Massachusetts residents sued the state on Wednesday, charging that its costly universal health care law is forcing the hospital to cover too much of the expense of caring for the poor.

The hospital, Boston Medical Center, faces a $38 million deficit for the fiscal year ending in September, its first loss in five years. The suit says the hospital will lose more than $100 million next year because the state has lowered Medicaid reimbursement rates and stopped paying Boston Medical “reasonable costs” for treating other poor patients.

Zee 07.18.09 at 12:28 pm

btw, good post, Murphy!

Those emails from that councilman were vile, but it’s too bad the paper only mentions the racism and not also the sexism.

19

Zee 07.18.09 at 12:30 pm

Hey persephone!

Yes, that’s all we need, fewer psych facilities…those have always been the first to go, and the people end up on the street!

20

persephone 07.18.09 at 12:30 pm

More on MA healthcare-damned scary stuff, considering the feds are holding it up as a model:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/15/us/15insure.html

Legal immigrants holding green cards for less than 5 years will be denied coverage??

21

persephone 07.18.09 at 12:33 pm

Yes, that’s all we need, fewer psych facilities…those have always been the first to go, and the people end up on the street!
________________

absolutely true.
so under the great MA plan, are things better, or worse?
people can’t afford the shitty coverage they are forced to carry and the ones getting free care will be rationed according to how many years they’ve been in the country?
wtf.

22

sistermoon3 07.18.09 at 12:39 pm

Murphy I must say i do appreciate your willingness to call everything the way you see it from both sides. I could care less
who would, won’t ever vote for palin if she ever decided to run for pres. I cant even say I would, because as of yet i havent seen her run for that position. But, that said, the debates and the policies and issues that would be on the table of such a run
would be very interesting indeed. Who knows where our country will be should i ever witness that day. No one does actually.
But, it’s been a brutal past year for women in general.

The fact that Obama chose to have another press appearance the same time as Hillary Clinton makes her first major SOS speech in this country is tacky, but predictable. But saying that the fact that the cable channels were covering other stories means she is a weak SOS is a cunard designed to 1) put her down, and 2) stir up a controversy around her. I don’t ever remember the major news tv shows covering an extended SOS speech. I don’t remember Madeline Albright or Condi Rice getting full tv coverage on SOS speeches (Condi got some coverage as National Security advisor, but not as SOS). SOS is supposed to be a behind the scenes influence position. You could listen to her speech in it’s entirity on c-span, so it was available. They will never rest in trying to embellish the Clinton/Obama story.

——————
A few decades ago, motrocycle riding dykes organized themselves as a group and started off the Pride March in San Francisco.
That vrooooooooom vrooooooooom always excites the group and gets the energy up!! They’re great!

A few years before I relocated to San Diego from Berkeley/Oakland,I started a weekend camping group for lesbians and their children. Named it Tykes of Dykes on Hikes. The mothers loved it… they sat around chatting while I occupied the children with games, and exercises, and nature mini-walks. We’d get a group site not more than an hour to hour and a half from Berkeley… close to home as a precaution for emergnecies and terror of nature (never happened tho).

I LOVE|D it!!!

Looks like Canada’s “FREE” healthcare, isn’t free..taxed .11 on every $1.00 earned..What do you make a month, $5,000..you pay $550. + your husband makes $10,000..he pays $1,100..that is $1,650 a month..together you make 180,000 a year..now “O” keeps $19,800 for insurance. + SS + MEDICAD (yes we will still pay that)+ FICA + State taxes…hel* no!! I will keep my Blue Cross/Blue Shield at $5,800 a year.
The upper class will be taxed additionally to cover the poor or non working…we will all be paying the way it will work..just the millionairs will pay an additional tax.

And guess what… ALL Canadan’s are NOT covered!!!

By the way did you know… the head of Canadan Health is in Washington to help “O” get his health bill passed!! READ the Bill.. we are following the Canadan plan.

Dances hope you have a great time! Wish I was there. I remember the first time I attended the gay pride parade, in 1978. I was taking my kids camping for 2 weeks up to Yosemite. We stopped in San Fran for the night. All the hotels were booked, but I found one room in this flea bag hotel right on the main strip. The hotel desk told me why all the rooms were booked, for the parade. He told me I might want to stay in my room with my kid! Well of course I set him straight (so to speak). I took the kids to the parade and of course I began to explain what “gay” was. we were standing there when the Dykes on Bikes came bye. It was so funny cuz back then…my wild days…I had a Harley. My son yells out mom…are you a Dyke on a bike? He was to young then to understand gay even meant. To this day both my kids and grandkids attend the gay pride parades!
It was as much a part of teaching them equality forpeople with different sexual preferences, as it was for racial equality. Something I think in most households is missing today. Not enough open conversation with children.

51

catsrlove 07.18.09 at 3:43 pm

“He” will do anything to upstage Hillary. He knows he didn’t win that election, so he wants to keep her silent. He doesn’t want those whose kool aid has worn off to see that they picked the wrong person.

I wish Hillary had not left her Senate seat. She could be much more vocal there. She was our best and only chance to win the White House. I think the fact that people chose to elect an inexperienced first term Senator instead of the most qualified person to run for office since her husband ran, shows us women are not seen as equals.

That makes me damn mad…

Have a good weekend PUMAS

Hi Murphy! Great post. IMO, however, we don’t need ‘martyrs.’ IMO, women will not have equality of rights until they absolutely, unequivocally insist on it! Yes, we must keep on pointing out and combatting the sexism/misogyny wherever we find it. But, remember, the male-dominated patriarchal political/financial/social/religious infrastructures of the United States and the rest of the world have benefited and profited for centuries via the subjugation and inequality of women. They will not relinquish their dominion until women take the rights that are deservedly theirs.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Harvard sophomore cornerback Matthew Hanson highlights a list of nine Crimson football players who are recognized in the 2009 Phil Steele’s Football Preview Magazine. Hanson was named to the All-America Second Team in the publication while Harvard was ranked 23rd nationally.

Hanson, from Lafayette, Colo., joined what has been the nation’s top defensive backfield last season and dazzled as the Ivy’s Rookie of the Year. Hanson led Harvard with four interceptions and tied for second on the team with 10 passes defended.
Here is a picture of him….

For those tracking the repeal of the 22nd amm..found this when searching for the lawyers in Chicago, who in 2005 started trying to appeal it connected to “O”.

This is NOT the first time…
Thomas Libary of Congress…3/6/2003: H.J.res.25 Rep Hoyer with 7 co sponsors to repeal 22 ammendment.. of Presidential term limits.

Like I keep saying “O” had been in the works for years Hillary..wouldn’t play ball..so she was put out of the game.

Churches, mosques say broadband is about “economic justice”

A host of Christian churches in the US (along with the Islamic Society) are calling on the US government to bring broadband access to everyone as a matter of economic justice.

Jesus said that the poor would always be with us—but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to bring them broadband. A coalition of Christian churches and the Islamic Society of North America has launched a new campaign to bring broadband to everyone in the US so that “our poorest communities, our rural areas, our public libraries, our public schools, and community centers” benefit from the communications revolution that the Internet hath wrought.

The “Bring Betty Broadband” campaign casts the broadband debate in moral terms. It’s about the “right to disseminate and receive information,” it’s a “right that helps to define ourselves as human beings and political actors,” and it’s absolutely essential for everyone in a modern society.

In addition, in the modern economy, just distribution of access to communication and information is essential to promote economic justice,” says the group. “Increasingly in the United States, the fundamental right to communicate is meaningless without high speed Internet access.”

Murph-
But in order for us to live in a world in which sexism is policed as strongly as racism is, we’re gonna need a few more martyrs.
———–
We need a whole boatload of martyrs to even out the political arena and make it fair for women running.

That’s why God made PUMAs, flood our society with out spoken women, minor martyrs that help deflect some of the heat off of women like Hillary and Sarah.

We haven’t shut up-
We haven’t sat down-
We haven’t gone away, nor into hiding.
We haven’t stopped since over a year ago.
We are not as politically naive as we were a year ago.

If you go over to Thomas Libary of Congress.. from Deb55 #77

Check out Rep. Hoyer ammendment… H.R.809(on same page) Prohibit viable fetus abortions…no different than how most Rep’s feel.
I happen to agree with this..but many strong Dem’s do not. Just strange how so many get bashed for this.. yet a Dem put this bill before congress.

Commerce Secretary: Americans ‘Need to Pay’ for Chinese Emissions

With the U.S. secretaries of energy and commerce in China this week, much of the attention focused on the standoff over emissions reductions or small breakthroughs in clean-tech cooperation.

But yesterday, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said something amazing—U.S. consumers should pay for part of Chinese greenhouse-gas emissions.

The idea that rich-country consumers should pick up the tab for some of China’s industrial emissions has been gaining currency lately—but not from within the Obama administration. The argument is that many of China’s factories churn out cheap stuff for the West, not for domestic consumption, so those consumers are actually responsible for the emissions. China, of course, loves the idea.

Just ran across this story in the Thoroughbred Times about the phenonemal super filly Rachel Alexandra who has become a sort of unofficial blog mascot this year. Her owner announced that she will be racing against the boys again in the Haskell at Monmouth Park on August 2. One of her competitors is the male horse (Summer Bird) that won the Belmont Stakes where Rachel Alexdandra did not race due to the track surface. There is a second story about a blazing fast workout she just had. Just wanted to post a heads up to mark your calendars to watch her race again if you like to watch beautiful horses run.

Good ones!!
Reminds why the boiz trash her all the time…
it’s because they are afraid of her. They’re afraid of all women. They know the power we hold, esp the power over them when push comes to shove. That’s the reason they recognize racism (it’s color coded) and turn a blind eye to sexism and mysogyny.
Pathetic putrid punks.

Have I said that I think Hillary Rodham Clinton is one of the greatest women of my time?

Just look at her sign the Remembrance Book for 26/11 victims of the bombing of Mumbai Taj Hotel.

Thoughtful, authentic, takes her time to express her compassion for people, committed to real resolve… I could go on and on about how much this one video compels me to admire her…

IMAGINE:
…if this were “the one”… he would pose while leaving India his autograph and couldn’t get through 2 sentences without a pen-e-prompter.

Yes, Hillary Clinton is the most honorable representative of, and for, all women all over the world.

Palin-Carter, thats the ticket.
I am afraid you are dreaming HP. Carter was an Obamafallator. He remains loyal to the party that compleatly snubbed him at the democratic convention last year.
I remain broken hearted over what has become of Jimmy Carter.
I support a home land for the Palestinians, but to believe that that would change the Muslim world to a kinder gentler place is beyond naive.

Dances on top of her camper eating a Happy Meal watching Dykes on Bikes pass by…

One of those times where, surely, a few words are worth a thousand pictures? Got em on Flickr yet, Dances? ;)

For Carter to shirk the Southern Baptists, maybe he’ll get it that Islam should be next on the list. It’s hard for me to separate the two, quite frankly.

A fateful moment 40 years ago this morning
By: MARC SANDALOW
Special to The Examiner
July 19, 2009
Forty years later, there are still more questions than answers.

Why did Kennedy, then a 37-year-old married senator, leave the party with 29-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne? Why did he drive in the wrong direction, swerve off the bridge, fail to pull her body from the water, and take 10 hours to report the accident? Did a concussion blur his judgment? Might Kennedy have become president?

This much is certain: Kennedy’s fate and the nation’s history were altered by what happened on Chappaquiddick Island, Mass., in the summer of 1969.

It was 40 years ago this morning that Kennedy, dry and sober, walked into the Edgartown police station — across the channel from Chappaquiddick — and told police that he was the driver of the black Oldsmobile that had already been discovered upside down with Kopechne’s corpse inside.

Exactly what happened on the previous hot July night will probably never be known.

No not dreaming, jesting! Carter has always been a simpering, whimpering twit to me. I find most overly religious men repugnant.

Absolutely… and we can’t live full lives online…
I would love to see a women’s homeland where women oppressed by religion, political parties, the patriarchy, and the barbarians it breeds, could find a welcoming refuge.
A matriarchal egalitarian homeland for women and men to live in with consideration and mutual respect for one another… or get the eff out.
