Breaking News: David Letterman is still a jackass. Gosh darn it all to heck, she’s 19 freaking years old. I know Letterman was being nice to her during his show, but it’s the goddamned context.
“‘At least I’m wearing underwear,’ the 19-year-old star added, before hanging her head in her hands to say she’s “still learning” this stuff.”
You shouldn’t HAVE to learn “this stuff” Emma. Minor, I know, but still. A nation of impotents being titillated through their televisions by geezers gawking at teenagers and making them blush about underwear. Ugh.
Hermione is a very pretty and lovely young woman, but that’s NOT what she’s famous for. She’s famous for being the cleverest witch of her age, gosh darn it.

if another freaking democrat makes even a PEEP about Palin’s view on choice, I’m gonna go shoot a wolf, just to be mean and nasty and republican:
“While current versions of the legislation do not address the abortion issue at all, late last month, 19 antiabortion Democrats in the House sent a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, warning that they “cannot support any health-care-reform proposal unless it explicitly excludes abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health-insurance plan.“

Did you watch the Animal Planet program last night on Christian the lion raised by the two British guys and released into the African wilds. It proves that even a ferocious animal can respond to love and care. They went back to see him in Africa a couple of times, not just the one that is shown on the internet so often. When he became fully grown, he was less cuddly (probably a good thing), but he still recognized them and greeted them warmly.

We had two wolf pens at the Columbus Zoo where I’ve volunteered for 20 years, one for the Northern grey wolf and one for Mexican wolves. Even though they are penned, they exhibited natural wolf behavior all the time, like catching stray rabbits that happen to hop into the enclosure and fighting for possession of the prey. The Mexican wolves breed every year and have large and healthy pups that are released back into their native habitat.

Oh BCL – on greta’s show last night they showed the video tape of the picture referenced above – the girl right behind him (the black one in the black skirt, etc.) shows him turning and taking her hand to help her stand next to him for some stupid photo op or something – have to admit that it shows sarkozy as the pig he really is and maybe obloviate is taking a peek???? ya think?
Susie1945 07.10.09 at 9:44 am
Oh and other thing – too many thoughts in my head – I have friends and kinda relatives who live in Alaska (ex-sister-in-law and ex-brother-in-law who live in Wasilla now – ex-brother-in-law works for state & knows sarah very well) – take a really good look at the state sometime – they have very few roads – people get around by flying in airplanes all over and/or by boat – take a look at Juneau – accessible by boat or plane – killing predators from a plane makes sense when there are no roads – wolves may look pretty, blah blah blah but they are still a predator and they do kill………..as a matter of fact, they were put back on the endangered list here in MN after being taken off – they were being killed by farmers, etc. after the wolves were killing their farm animals – really is a dog eat dog kind of world isn’t it…………..

FLBarbara 07.10.09 at 10:45 am
Good Morning I received this and thought it very interesting.
545 PEOPLE By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then
campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are
against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and
high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on
appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme
Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are
directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the
domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem
was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its
Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally
chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason..
They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator,
a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t
care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The
politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the
lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine
how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that
what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con
regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human
being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would
have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President
for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He
cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole
responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and
approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House?
Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow
House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If
the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not
replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of
incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic
problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power
of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what
they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red .
If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it’s because they want them in IRAQ
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement
plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they
hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and
advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to
regulate and from whom they can take this power.
Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists
disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or
“politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are
their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Did Goldman Sachs “sniff” trades before they were placed, then place its own trades, and front-run the world?
…GS, through access to the system as a result of their special gov’t perks, was/is able to read the data on trades before it’s committed, and place their own buys or sells accordingly in that brief moment, thus allowing them to essentially steal buttloads of money every day from the rest of the punters world.
If true, this should be highly illegal, and would, in any sane country result in something like what happened to Arthur Andersen…
God help Goldman if this is true and the government goes after them. This would constitute massive unlawful activity. Indeed, the allegation is that Goldman alone was given this access!
God help our capital markets if this is true and is ignored by our government and regulatory agencies, or generates nothing more than a “handslap.” Nobody in their right mind would ever trade on our markets again if this occurred and does not result in severe criminal and civil penalties.

I didn’t defend Murphy, per se. I tried to explain the circumstances of the week Murphy was travelling with her daughter (way back in April), and the result of the racist remarks (deletion and a few whack-job commenters being banned … small details omitted by said poster).
When I requested that said poster consider cross posting to offending blogs, taggles said it would be better if Murphy (blog owners) posted it insteadm, since they make the rules. I think it’s odd that Murphy’s BFF didn’t know, or didnt recall, or chose to ignore the fact that two of Murphy’s rules for this blog are , No Sexism, and, No racism.
I love it. Blogging by committee… by people who don’t participate in the blogs they criticize. Bizarre.

L’AQUILA, Italy – President Barack Obama said Friday the world apparently has averted economic collapse but a “full recovery is still a ways off.”
Obama, speaking at the end of the Group of Eight summit of major economic powers, said world leaders had taken significant measures to address economic, environmental and global security issues.

I am thinking he means a long way off as in maybe another 3 1/2 years it will start to recover and a full recovery is only possible if he is re elected in 2012?
Why is anyone buying this crap? Is kool-aid that powerful?.

-Worked her ass off
-Organized Denver
-Raised funds to suppliment travel and lodging for Denver
-Raised funds to produce a film (regardless of what one thinks of the film).
-Created topical forums and teams to work on specific issues,
sexism in the media, school curricula, women lynching, ERA, FEC, Alice Paul, Scarlet’s 411 on the 111, Prop Hate, etc.
-organized us to read the stimulus package a post summaries,
-creates Prowls with resources to make it as easy as possible for all of us to protest, query, etc.
-posts blogs two to three times per day (alone)
-Publicizes other Puma related blogs, large and small, to help promote those sites, share their POV, and to promote unity and support among Pumas. (Have they ever done the same?? Not that I can recall. Not unless it’s to dump on Murphy. Not very nice, is it?)
- She also pays attention and corresponds with individual Pumas in need of support and accommodation; fields all sorts of requests, demands, vile email, and threats.
-All this while maintaining a family (great family, btw), and taking care of the regular chores and activities of daily living.
-I could go on, and I’m sure many of you could add to the list. Why bother though? Why should we spell it out for anyone? Let’s all focus on the 48 hour period in April, during which Murphy was travelling with her daughter, and two commenters used the word “gorilla” in relationship to Mrs. Obama.
It’s much easier focusing on a speck than the entire picture.
FLBarbara 07.10.09 at 11:19 am
Dances,
Of all the comments made here, yours about Murphy speaks the truth from the heart. It is long overdo and should be posted at the top of a thread and then copied and posted on those “Let’s bash Murphy and pretend we are women who are against women bashing other women.
Don’t forget to include the
“I support you but I do not agree with you politically”
And then continue to bring up the talking points that seek to degrade.
Thanks Dances and A big Thank you to Murphy..

and let’s organize a conference and not invite the major players to participate… maybe we can jockey our way into a leadership position, by hook or by crook. Shades of the former NOW machinations. Manipulation isn’t an attribute of true leadership abilities.

Women can be OUR WORST ENEMIES! How much more powerful we would be if we could unite behind what is right AND MOVE ON!
We’re not only having to do battle with the patriarchal establishment BUT WITH EACH OTHER! Race wasn’t an issue when Obama was backed enthusiastically by Black voters, but we CAN’T UNITE AS A GENDER? Instead, we beat each other up when brave women try to break through the glass ceiling to make a difference FOR US ALL!
It’s all about education and illumination, and it has to INCLUDE WOMEN, regretfully! (For those who might see HR406 merely as a nice gesture, I see it instead as an opportunity to EDUCATE and illuminate, ESPECIALLY WOMEN, even if a medal never happens)
I’m working on the list for “THE OTHER 20″ if anyone is interested. I know Remember November alluded to it last night.
Off topic . . .

Oh! No worries. I know we are on the same page. I was just enumerating a few of the details of the actions Murphy has taken / provided over the past year.
Good thing you didn’t stick your neck out over there… you risked being placed in moderation. Hey, if they could do it to Riverdaughter, after she very civilly responded to a thread directed at her, while following shiddershins guidelines, but was dismissed because gary-the-gay-guy-who-co-opts-the-energy-of-women-and-the-womens-movement-at-every-turn (even yesterday’s thread was turned around to focus on gay marriage!) said, “riverdaughter’s presense on the blog was upsetting some people”, and that was the last to be heard from Riverdaughter in her own defense. Meanwhile, the taunting continued by the blog owners. Nice, right?

Calls to investigate the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are growing after media outlets revealed that immigrants with inadequate certifications may be working on American airplanes. In many cases, according to reports, mechanics who don’t even speak English are replacing qualified American workers.
“We just have to bring them before Congress and ask them what they’re doing,” said Texas Rep. Ted Poe of Houston. “I will ask Congressman Oberstar of the Aviation Committee to hold hearings with the FAA regarding this whole situation.”
WFAA-TV in Dallas and Fort Worth exposed the problems with an investigation in early July. “Reporters found that aliens are being brought into the country so that they can be paid less than American workers,” the TV station noted on its website.
The investigation also charged that the immigrants’ experience and credentials may be in question. Quoting insiders, the station claims “the companies that are importing the mechanics are so eager to save money, they’re overstating their qualifications. The result may be a threat to safety, abetted by lax enforcement of immigration law.”

Pickens’ new bid actually is hostile. I don’t want to fund his windmills or methane cars. But if I refuse, the IRS will come after me. But instead of“greed” it’s dubbed as “green.”
Timothy P. Carney: Congress gives your money to T. Boone Pickens
T. Boone Pickens, like any good businessman, can read changing economic conditions.
While he spent the 1980s as a “corporate raider” and oilman, in this age of Barack Obama and Henry Waxman, he has shifted his focus to lobbyists, feel-good green messages, and technology that depends on government subsidies.
The result: Taxpayers will now be subsidizing T. Boone Pickens, a billionaire—and Republicans and Democrats in Congress tell you it’s for your own good.
This week, three senators proposed special tax credits that will subsidize Pickens’ latest business venture, which he calls “the Pickens Plan.” Like his previous undertakings, Pickens has launched his plan as a way to get richer. Unlike his previous undertakings, the Pickens Plan is completely dependent on government subsidies—and this has ingratiated him to politicians and media.
The Pickens Plan, in short, in this: We should get more electricity from windmills and power our cars with natural gas. Pickens happens to be a major investor in windmills and natural-gas cars. Both of these energy sources are heavily subsidized, but not enough for Pickens to profit from them, apparently.
This week, Senators Robert Menendez, D-N.J., Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Harry Reid, D-Nev., at Pickens’ urging, sponsored a bill to double the huge subsidies natural gas cars already receive, and to provide a $100,000 tax credit for the construction of a natural-gas filling station.

#59, Scarlet – I’m going to throw up now.
I’m an environmentalist and volunteer to help create conservation areas here in my state, so I’m a firm believer in cleaning up our environment for future generations, etc. I also have a purple martin colony (fledging over 100 babies right now!
).
The martins fly in from Brazil – as do many migratory birds during the spring. Many birds are already killed during migration by flying into the many cell-phone towers, high-rise buildings, etc. The huge windmills that Mr. Pickens has praised, are a real threat to our many migratory birds. A lot of them fly at night – can you imagine the gauntlet they would have to endure if large wind farms were erected on our southerly coasts? I shudder to think of the fatalities.

NikkisMom — my dad has about 200 acres set aside in Iowa — he’s been planting trees for about 20 years on some of it — we have a pond on this parcel as well — he’s stopped farming it — no more cattle grazing — it’s now set aside for wildlife.

I just got home and read your post blasting us for not ‘defending’ Murphy at the Widdershins. I had to chuckle at your delayed reaction.
I was over there and thought you and Murphy were doing an excellent job of countering their snarky arguments. I don’t want to register to comment there but did come back here to make my comments on what I was reading and what I thought of that blog. I think Murphy set the tone with her reasonableness and level headed statements. No need to rush in to blast that blog and get a blog war started. I’d think by now Murphy would be weary of the internet attacks on her. I was surprised when Persophone exploded at us yesterday saying we were not defending Murphy. Why the need to engage in cat fights all the time. I don’t get it. Anyway, the other blogs snark because they are jealous of Murphy’s numbers and loyal following. That goes without saying and Murphy knows it.

I think the title is quite fitting. Actually, even with all the bashing of Hillary or for the life of me I havent seen any bashing of Michelle in the media to really amount to hill of beans, and just because a poster might not like what michelle wears or names they call her is hardly note worthy really.
sistermoon3 07.10.09 at 12:52 pm
I meant to add to that last statement the fact is this.
Hillary was invited to the ball, Michelle was invited to the ball.
Sarah was not invited to the ball so she’s not allowed to wear
the glass slippers or the most beautiful gown. She simply doesnt fit in to that big old DC town, now does she.

Some perspective on Pat Johnson’s post. To put it in context, it was the culmination of a week-long series of posts on Sarah Palin, and how they could not understand how anyone could “support” Sarah Palin because of her views. It was combined with a discussion on women’s groups which decide to put aside the question of choice in order to work on other things.
It’s rather amusing that her topic was groupthink and getting pounced on, since I was over there allllllll week, posting lengthy comments on the topic.
I don’t remember one single instance of anyone conceding even one of my points, which included the fact that we shouldn’t have a pissing match over whether Hillary or Sarah got beat up more by the media since this past election season presents a rare glimpse in how ideology doesn’t matter when it comes to the despicable male dominance in the media and how sexism is so pervasive it’s become unremarkable. So we should not squander this opportunity.
Anyway. The real “enemy” is a provincial attitude. We hole up in a single blog and become “townies.” Both Cinie and Murphy have displayed leadership in that they don’t take things too personally —- they respond to them and move on. We should emulate them in that respect. We don’t need turf wars…and both taggles and pat johnson *do* participate in various blogs, although I imagine that becomes more and more difficult when one has a home turf, due to time constraints alone.
I wish Pat had put her experience of getting pounced on for her views on Sarah Palin in the original post, because that is a very common phenomenon which would be a good topic to discuss. But so is the topic of choice, as was thoroughly discussed all week there. And many people pointed out to her that the “gorilla” comment, tho a memorable incident, did not really support her premise, since tolerance of racist remarks would necessitate a prevalence of such views and that they be unremarked on.
So, it’s been hashed out, and in a respectful way, and I truly believe it was not a “potshot.”

THESE WOMEN ARE OUR REPRESENTATIVES and are they representing US? They “look like sheep” to me . . going along with the boys! They are all we have! Where are our women reps. that are rallying for us? THAT’S THE PROBLEM, AND THAT’S WHY WE NEED TO TAKE IT ON, UNITED, AND SCREAM WITH THAT UNITED VOICE UNTIL SOMEONE FINALLY HEARS US!

There’s a whole lot of passionate and hotheaded in the movement, but all this is simply par for the course for online interaction. Online interaction is swift and intense and anyone who has life issues they can’t neglect simply can’t respond to everything…especially when it wooshes along in real time!
There are a lot of unthought-out pronunciations and denunciations in the comments threads. Threats of leaving being #1, probably everywhere on the web. Threats of leaving, if not outright grounds for banning, ought to become as impolite as ALL CAPS NONSTOP SCREAMING in the canons of netiquette.
That said, I hope you stay. I like Persephone, even if I don’t agree with her on everything. So the woman is hotheaded and outspoken! Who isn’t? Hahaha! I disliked the post the other day (I forget who wrote it) targeting PUMABear, but was not able to stay online to address it before it was ancient history. Just because a post slips by without someone addressing it, doesn’t mean that everyone approves it. It’s hard enough to read 100 posts, let alone comment on each one…altho i used to try, late at night, to the amusement of some as they watched hours-later responses!
This has nothing to do with what PUMAs want or don’t want on this or any other PUMA blog. This is ordinary online group dynamics. We need to recognize it and deal with it, to stop the fevered overreaction. We need a term for it, like cyberdynamics or something.
It can and does destroy online communities, even excellent ones.

YA Know….ok you probably don’t … when I am working really hard ( home care nursing +high patient load + hot weather + car without AC = exhaustion and passing out on the couch after I eat something and not even getting to the computer and missing lots of posts ) but I am here catching up today …. and I just want to say:
besides fixing the chat room at the radio station where all the old animations somehow were uploaded and I have to replace them one by one, and try and catch up on my music podcast too.. … I do have something else to do on the net besides comment to blogs I want to get this in …….
#1. Murphy totally rocks …
#2. David Letterman is a perverted slime ball , and if I had the resources I would go to NYC and take a bucket of outhouse offal and dump it on him . Yes I would.
#3.I support Sarah Palin as a feminist and a candidate ..not on the basis of gay rights, or choice issues,or health care; because she has said in plain english that the voice of the people should rule in those issues ; but on her stand on the ECONOMY and ENERGY because I
think that is where her HONESTY AND INTEGRITY and care for the people become her priorities .
#4 Fashion is a choice… and if you set yourself up or happily participate in being hailed as a fashion icon ,by allowing yourself to be compared to REAL fashion icons ; you are open to criticism in that area from the puiblic as a consequence of making those choices . So if you choose to wear an entire outfit in the same color as a Pepto Bismol Bottle , you may be called on it ,
and this in no way represents hypocrisy or lack of feminist sensibilities on the part of the callers.
#4 Conspicuously flaunting wealth , while the people of the country your husband represents are suffering thru an economic crisis, is also a choice , and the person perpetrating this behavior may be called on it ; and this in no way represents hypocrisy or lack of feminist sensibilities on the part of the callers. Imelda Marcos comes to mind for some reason.
#5 I have also been reading CAROLINE GLICK , http://carolineglick.com/ and find her to be deeply truthful, and relevant .
#6 Murphy Rocks ..
# 7 I would say more but I have to fix the animations in the chat room , and all of the above are my opinions, take what you like and leave the rest .

My guess is that some of it is blowback from Sarah quitting as governor. Some PUMAs (not myself) may have had high hopes that she quit to run in 2012, and not knowing for sure if this is the plan may have have hit a new low in the hope department. Not sure, just guessing.
PUMAs have very few female polititions to support that are taking up the good fight for women… and a potential loss of Sarah may be too painful?
She might pull though and run, win the nomination…but I think her not finishing her term as Gov. may have hurt her severely. (It doesn’t make me feel that confident in her right now, but I am not invested emotionally in her as I am in Hillary, I do like her a lot though…so don’t get me wrong)

He not only used his enormous talent to deeply move people all over the world on behalf of Aids, children and ending poverty, he donated all of the revenues from those efforts as well as from his other projects.

I have been doing research on how, what and why the suffragist movement worked and the womens movement of today is not working.
Since Anthony, Paul and Cady-Stanton were Quakers I started there.
What I found interesting is that the Suffragist movement was created based on the belief that ” All things God created were equal”
Woman deserved to vote because they were equal to men in the Quaker Religion.
That simple. But I can’t help but think if these great leaders were around today by the standards we judge women today they would have been placed in the Christian Convervative box and called Religious fanatics with a Religious Agenda.
However because the Quakers believed that Abortion was between a woman and God and no bodys business but theirs.
That war was wrong no matter what. All sex even same sex was a gift from God.
Well they would have been called liberal with a left wing agenda.
These great leaders would have been silenced because many would have found fault with their beliefs.
So maybe just maybe we need to hear what all women have to say because what made a difference was they were not placed in any box.
Right wing woman left wing woman,
That which so divides us today and has us the minority instead of the majority.
As we do today
They simply believed Equal rights for all and everthing else fell into place.
Beliefs & practices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)

Back to researching.

Levi Johnston (Bristol Palin’s former fiance): Palin resigned to cash in on fame
Johnston came forward, Butler said, because Alaskans want to know why Palin has decided to resign, effective the end of the month.
Johnston is pursuing his own book deal and movie deal while working as a carpenter.
Asked if he would vote for her if she ran for president, Johnston said: “I think she’s a great lady, but after seeing what she did now, you know, leaving Alaska, I would have to say, ‘no.’ Obviously she’s stressed out as governor. I mean moving up to the vice president or president is huge. I just don’t think anymore that she’s cut out for the job.”

The article and clips of ‘Littleman’s’ leering, sleazy/smarmy interview with Emma Watson should be viewed alongside the photo of BO blatantly ogling (nearly patting???) the woman’s posterior in Italy. Those images sum up quite succinctly the sexist/misogynistic attitude of the U.S. mainstream media and the regressive/repressive/patriarchal jackass who shares their woman-hating views, and whom they ensured of election last Nov. (all probably achieving some sort of national erection in the process…remember the ‘tingle’ up Matthews’ leg???) Maybe PUMAs could come up with a caption? “Littleman and BO show what buttheads they really are.” How long are women going to put up with this sexual objectification from the MSM and even our government???!!! (BTW,IMO, the B.S. about abortion is just another form of the sexual objectification of women because it attempts to reduce full-fledged, adult, thinking, independent female human beings to nothing more than their female biological parts!)

The drama at the Confluence is older than you all think. That being said, let it go, it adds nothing to the debate. There are discussions being held throughout the PUMAsphere about viscerally held, deep seated emotional issues, there’s going to be drama and fireworks. Nobody’s skin is thinner or thicker than anybody else’s. With that in mind, sometimes things are better left unsaid, and everybody benefits from a few well-timed deep breaths and timeouts.

Rancho and Shadowfax, yup. Today is a new day, yesterday is over. thanks sincerely to all the Pumas who make nice comments about me, they really do make it seem worth it on some days when the snipers are flying.
I read pretty much every post at TC and TW and Cinies and the other Puma blogs — all the bloggers in the Pumasphere rely/depend on each other for insights, inspiration, ideas. I love reading them whether I agree or not, like everyone else.
anyway, getting psyched for Simo’s barbeque and practicing some Zen and the Art of Minivan Maintenance here at Puma PAC HQ — changed the tire with help from my girls, that was fun! and tried to jump start the battery. Totally dead, but no acid burns thank gawd.

How you saw it was an “attack” is part of the problem.
I was a HILLARY RESPONDER, from day one with her campaign, and that was my job, I being HEARTSICK at what they did to her.
I knew DAILY the ATTACKS she endured, and I was summoned to

I believe it’s the Plain family that concluded his “contributions” to the family were no longer needed.
I’ll bet he’s still wondering why as we speak.
He’s in the Letterman camp imo – They have no concept of “perception”.
I thought it didn’t get any dumber than Letterman’s apologizing for “having creating others’ perceptions”. How dumb was that?
Levi’s statements explained Letterman’s apology. When Totally Dumb takes the stage… it’s all about “perspective” not “perception”. Dumb asses.

FYI, here’s the letter I received from Congresswoman Cynthis Lummis (R, Wyoming) in response to my letter opposing ‘Crap n Trade/Cap n Tax.’ I sent her the prowl, even though the bill went to the Senate, because of the importance of this issue to Wyoming. Regardless of what one believes about ‘global warming’, hers is one of the most cogent, no-nonsense, sane, thorough responses I’ve seen re this ill-conceived bill.
Thanks.
——-
“Dear Friend:
Thank you for sharing with me your views on the controversial climate change proposals currently being considered by Congress. I appreciate hearing from you.
There is no disputing that our planet experiences climate change – it has been cycling between cooling and warming periods long before we were here to experience the effects. However, I believe the jury is still out on how mankind can best alter that trend. Regardless of if or how much human activities are impacting our climate, it only makes sense to find ways to use our energy resources more efficiently and by the cleanest methods possible.
The problem before us is that many in Congress want to put the cart before the horse by sending mandates to our states and industries that current technologies simply cannot support. Our nation’s focus should be on developing those needed technological applications, not growing government through a new bloated bureaucracy such as a federally-run cap-and-trade or, perhaps more aptly named, “cap-and-tax” program.
Regardless of the legislation’s significant failings, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Democrat-crafted “cap-and-tax” bill on June 26th by a slim vote margin of 219-212. I opposed the bill’s passage.
As you may know, in a cap-and-trade program, the federal government first establishes an overall limit, or “cap,” on carbon emissions. Then, the government mandates that private industry takes whatever steps necessary to reduce overall emissions below that cap. It achieves this reduction by either selling or issuing “allowances” to individual carbon-emitting sources. The “trade” aspect in a cap-and-trade program comes into play when an entity sells any unneeded emission allowances to sources that emit more than their respective allowances provide for.
While this process seems simple enough on its face, actual implementation would strain our economy and your pocketbooks to an unprecedented level. In simplest terms, the climate change plan put forward by President Obama represents a $646 billion tax that will impact the energy costs of nearly every American family and small business. One recent study shows that family energy costs could rise on average by more than $3,100 a year. Economists generally agree that low income families will feel this pinch the most dramatically as they spend a greater portion of their income on energy consumption.
Another negative impact of a federally-implemented cap-and-trade system would be significant job losses across our country. Various studies suggest anywhere from 1.8 million to 7 million jobs could be lost when energy-intensive facilities and the energy industry they depend on must change the way they do business (or relocate overseas) to meet these sweeping new government mandates. Wyoming’s energy-based economy will likely be one of the first to suffer from these job losses. Wind, solar, and other alternative energy resources pose great economic opportunities for our State and we should pursue them in full. Even if we doubled the use of these alternative energy sources in this country over the next year, it would still equate to less than one percent of our total energy output. Alternative energy sources may supplement, but could never supplant, traditional fuels in the near- to mid-term.
The most frustrating aspect of the cap-and-trade proposals being discussed in Washington, however, is the fact that all of the economic sacrifices outlined above will be made for the sake of negligible to no actual environmental benefit.
According to the Council of Economic Advisers’ Report to the President, global carbon dioxide emissions will be virtually unaffected by U.S. carbon reductions unless developing countries participate – and they’ve given no indication that they will. Instead, we will hamstring our own economy while our primary trade competitors reap the benefits.
Democrat Congressional Leadership has made it clear that getting this or a similar bill signed into law this Congress is its first priority – above addressing all other challenges facing our nation. If successful, they will be sacrificing substance for expediency on a climate change plan that will have dramatic effects on our nation’s energy reliability and the pocketbook of nearly every American taxpayer.
I appreciate the value of your comments on this complex and controversial issue.
Sincerely,
Cynthia M. Lummis
Member of Congress”

Since it is Friday and almost Happy Hour
A woman in a hot-air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, “Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”
The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, ”You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.
“She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.”
“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”
“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”
The man smiled and responded, “You must be an Obama Democrat.”
“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”
“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are or where you are going.. You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s my fault.”

How’s this for an oxymoron:
Civil Rights Group Divided Over Gay Marriage
By JENNIFER STEINHAUER
LOS ANGELES — The Southern Christian Leadership Conference — the 50-year-old civil rights organization founded by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others — is seeking to remove the president of its Los Angeles chapter in response to his support of same-sex marriage in California.
The effort by the Atlanta-based organization is meeting stiff resistance in Los Angeles from both the board of the local chapter, whose chairman is secretary of the state Democratic Party, and the City Council president.
During the battle last fall over Proposition 8, an amendment to the State Constitution that banned same-sex marriage, the chapter’s president, the Rev. Eric P. Lee, was more than a tangential figure for the opposition. He was front and center at an opposition group’s large rally at City Hall and marched in the blazing sun for 15 miles in Fresno. Many other local African-American pastors prepared mailings featuring church leaders in support of the proposition and linking their views to President Obama, then the Democratic nominee for president.
Mr. Lee “was very helpful to us,” said Rick Jacobs, head of the Courage Campaign, a left-leaning political action group in Los Angeles that fought to the initiative.

Bombings Across Iraq as Violence Continues to Soar
Scores Killed in Last 48 Hours, Over 250 Wounded
The death toll in a series of bombings today continued to rise, as Iraq faced the deadliest day since its celebration of “National Sovereignty Day” marked the formal pullback of US troops from the nations cities. Nearly 90 Iraqis have been killed in the past 48 hours, and over 250 wounded.
The biggest single incident was the bombing in Tal Afar, in which bombers dressed in police uniforms attacked a residential neighborhood, killing at least 36 and wounding 84 others. Other bombings today hit Sadr City and Kirkuk.
373 civilians were killed in Iraq in June, nearly triple the number killed in the comparatively quiet month of May. Most of the June deaths came in the second half of the month, and those hoping the spate of high profile bombings in late June were an aberration need only look at the last two days to see the violence is enduring.
Despite the rising death toll, US officials continue to maintain that there is significant progress in Iraq’s security situation. It is never explained, however, how the security situation has managed to become so disconnected with the civilian body count.

Just saw the postperson pick up the letters on the “Nineteen Prowl”
Thanks Rancho and PumaBear, MK, gojoy, Murphy and PumaPac Blog for this –
I reduced the postcard graphic and positioned it on the return address side of the envelope. It printed out a little larger than a designer postage stamp but looked so PumaPac impressive!
It felt really, really, really great to prepare them and sign them!
Alice Paul lives!

GM’s eBay play
Dealers would be able to list inventories on auction site through a California pilot project.
Peter Valdes-Dapena, CNNMoney.com senior writer
Last Updated: July 10, 2009: 5:16 PM ET
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Fresh out of bankruptcy, the new General Motors hopes to soon start selling its whole line of cars on eBay through a pilot program.
While the marketing effort would initially be limited to California, it could go national if it proves to be successful, said GM Chief Executive Fritz Henderson at a news conference Friday.
A tie-up with eBay wouldn’t be entirely new for GM. The automaker has been placing all of its “GM Certified” used cars on eBay for over a year. Toyota and Chrysler have similar programs for their certified used cars, as well.

I posted this on another blog last week and thought I would share the thought. I marked out the name(s) of the woman’s organization that I was addressing):
Women represent 51%. If the “—-” is not willing to confront this historically misogynistic, sexist, politically and economically oppressive system with all of the appall and force of the Woman’s and Civil Rights Movements of the past – the —- will not only be NOT “new” but just as ineffective as “—-” has been over the past 20 years.
In fact, anything less will only serve us up as being willing to “negotiate” HOW we will continue being relegated to a position with far less social, economic and political influence and rights than most all minority groups in the United States.”

One would think it would be obvious to them.

Yes and I thought it would be “obvious” to the leaders in the GLBT community also.
If it weren’t for so many affected – I would say, “You got what you deserved for being so star struck, dog and pony show stupid. You didn’t really expect him to fight for “YOU” by making YOU an exception to his past political usury? When is the GLBT you going to learn that if a politician doesn’t have a consistently clear, outspoken record on Woman’s or Gay Rights, it’s a pretty good bet that he is a narcissistic, sexist bigot sucking up to disposable income.”

Good evening to all Pumas,
I was not aware that Murphy was being put down. I
don’t read anything but Murphy’s posts and think
she does a GREATTTTTTTTT job.
Dances # 41……one thing I can add is that Murphy
is also a friend. I feel very close to her, yet know
we don’t agree on all the issues, but that does NOT
matter. We have to stick together.
I only know some of you but respect each and everyone
of you.
Lots of love
admin 07.10.09 at 8:25 pm
aw, 2pumasisters! I think of you as a friend too!
honestly, i wasnt overtly being put down. More like I objected to a generalization and oversimplification of Puma PAC’s views, and a conflation of what I write/think with the comments/opinions of commenters here.
some of our loyal members are just so incredibly supportive and protective of me and us (and they have a little bit of “passionate” Italian in them!) that they wanted to publicly protect us and voice their objection.
thankfully whatever drama there was is long over, and the GOOD points of all of our discussions — here and there — remain.
Rancho 07.10.09 at 8:30 pm

*Murphy, you are not sending prowls to our emails anymore? Or did I just get left out?
BTW..when people attack you, it is usually because of the
*green*
monster! You do a terrific job!

Murphy
Your comment #2 sure made me laugh. I can really relate and if I were not such a night owl I’d get up before 9:30am to do vodka shots with ya.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me with my computer skills.
Up until now, the only way I knew how to cut and paste was with a scissors and glue.
admin 07.10.09 at 9:29 pm
sadly no, Rancho — the saga of the MVOD continues, though still glowing about changing the damn tire with the girls.
LOL!
got your email and getting ready to read away! also sending back about Phase 2 of the PRoWL.
sorry Sunshinelvr, that was an oversight on my part,
p.s. Why are you all down here?? there’s a big party at Simo’s happening RIGHT NOW!!

Thanks for that dose of reality. The people who were attacking Palin for Alaska’s preditor population control policies are irrational. Along with the facts that you have mentioned it is important to note that wolves are at the top of the food chain and have no animal preditors. After bring on a protected list animals like wolves often have too much of a population boom and then need to be controlled for various reasons including public safety.
Peta even attacked Obama for killing a fly during an interview.
God, I hate to defend Obama but really-get a grip Peta.

Obama and Sarkozy should co-star in a Burger King commercial.

“– killing predators from a plane makes sense when there are no roads – wolves may look pretty, blah blah blah but they are still a predator and they do kill………..as a matter of fact, they were put back on the endangered list here in MN after being taken off –”
_____________________________________________________
Because, of course, elsewhere wolves, deer, elk, etc., all keep to the roads. You fail to make your case because Alaskans don’t hunt the animals they actually eat from the air. Lack of roads doesn’t seem to stop them from taking caribou, elk and moose.
You do make two valid points. Wolves are still endangered and require protection. And of course, they’re predators. The negative effects of predator suppression on prey species have been documented for decades. When there are no predators to cull out the weak and the sick, prey species expand beyond the carrying capacity of their habitat, and then you have a prey species crash. In Alaska, where there is a significant amount of subsistence hunting, especially among Alaska Natives such as the Gwitchi’in people, that could lead to human as well as ecological disaster.
Sorry, but I don’t think greed for hunting tourism dollars is more important than
waterpanther 07.10.09 at 10:45 pm
the overall health of the environment.
Oooops, lost the last line, there.
