As theamericanway said in comments. You might as well turn it off and get ALL your news from the internet. Seriously. Pretend it broke or something. Break it yourself so you won’t be tempted. Most of us have a TV addiction, that is, we turn it on out of HABIT, not because we expect to feel better after watching or in order to be truly entertained. Trust me. I speak from long years of experience and habit. Don’t be afraid — once you’ve pulled the plug, you’ll be able to find EVERYTHING you want and need on the internet: from comedy to breaking news to video games. Heh, that would be a good idea for a reality show: “Pulling the Plug,” in which my character, kind of like Cesar Millan, goes and lives with a family, forcing them to give up their TV addiction and spend their time more enjoyably and productively. It could be a huge TV hit!
But it’s true — TV is AWFUL, and it makes you feel bad. For example, I feel sort of shocked and sad that Michael Jackson died. It’s brought up memories of the 80’s and when I was young. I remember watching him get weirder as I got more mature and responsible. My memories of Farrah Fawcett are even fonder — waiting up to watch the show with my sister (getting to stay up past our 7:30pm bedtime!) and playing Charlie’s Angels with our friends at the beach (I always wanted to be Sabrina). Anyways, they’re both dead — it’s kind of sad. But from what I hear over at Violet Sox’s place, watching television would make you believe that Michael Jackson’s death marks a new epoch in human history (did we even HAVE human history before Michael? CNN wants to know.) Violet’s two latest posts on the subject make me happy — by not turning on the TV I’ve kept my fond memories of MJ and Fawcett safe. If I had been inundated with non-stop wall-to-wall coverage of the events, I think I would end up HATING the two of them for being famous enough to make the US media self-implode on a stupendous excess of phony smarm.
Meanwhile, over on the internet, Violet Sox is disarmingly and quietly profound:
“I’m reminded of when John F. Kennedy, Jr. (John-John) and his wife died in that plane crash. In short order there appeared at my local supermarket a glossy sort of magazine-cum-book, with big photos of the dead couple and bathetic remembrances of them.
I asked my boyfriend-at-the-time, “why do people buy things like that?”
“To feel sad,” he said.
There isn’t enough already to feel sad about? I thought.
I’m also reminded of the missionaries who accompanied the Spanish conquistadors to the New World. They tried to tell the indigenous people about The One who had suffered and died and then risen from the grave. “Do you know this man?” the Indians would ask, puzzled.
No, the missionaries should have said, but we like to imagine we do.”

Contact your SENATORS. Tell them NO WAY on Cap and Trade.
Click HERE to reach your senators’ offices and use a the letter below to send:
Dear Senator,
I am your constituent and a member of Puma P.A.C. (http://pumapac.org). I am urging you to VOTE NO on the Cap and Trade bill, a version of which was passed by the House last week.
I fully support efforts to reduce greenhouse gases, lessen our dependence on foreign oil, and heal our environment, BUT
this bill is little more than a government handout to Wall Street insiders to make a fortune in a new, bubble-prone financial market.
Consumers and taxpayers will PAY in order for those we already KNOW are untrustworthy to make millions, if not billions of dollars. And there is very little scientific evidence this bill will even reduce emissions at all.
The American people are paying attention and we DO NOT SUPPORT THIS CAP AND TRADE BILL.
The Sunlight Foundation and the Sierra Club are both very displeased with the way the Congress and the White House RUSHED this bill through, with no chance for members or citizens to read and understand it.
Additionally, Greenpeace and other environmental protection groups are actively opposed to the bill on its merits.
Please VOTE “NO” THE CAP AND TRADE BILL!
Sincerely,
Your Name

Ousted president, replacement duel for Honduras
Jun 29, 7:26 AM (ET)
By WILL WEISSERT and FREDDY CUEVAS
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) – A military coup has divided Honduras between two leaders – one recognized by world bodies and another backed by the country’s congress, courts and military.
Presidents from around Latin America were gathering in Nicaragua for meetings Monday on how to resolve the first coup in Central America in 16 years, while the European Union offered to help start talks between the two sides.
Once again, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez took center stage, casting the dispute as a rebellion by the region’s poor.
“If the oligarchies break the rules of the game as they have done, the people have the right to resistance and combat, and we are with them,” Chavez said in the Nicaraguan capital, Managua.
There is a deep rift between the outside world – which is clamoring for the return of democratically elected, but largely unpopular and soon-to-leave-office President Manuel Zelaya – and congressionally designated successor Roberto Micheletti.
Micheletti rejected any outside interference and declared a two-night curfew, while Chavez vowed that “we will overthrow (Micheletti).”
Zelaya was seized by soldiers and hustled aboard a plane to Costa Rica early Sunday, just hours before a rogue referendum Zelaya had called in defiance of the courts and Congress, and which his opponents said was an attempt to remain in power after his term ends Jan. 27.
The Honduran constitution limits presidents to a single 4-year term, and Zelaya’s opponents feared he would use the referendum results to try to run again, just as Chavez reformed his country’s constitution to be able to seek re-election repeatedly.

I no longer watch television and do scour the net for news each morning. I generally check several different sources before forming an opinion about any issue because all media sources, including those on the net, seem to be biased in one direction or the other.

Supreme Court Rules for White Firefighters in Affirmative Action Case
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: June 29, 2009
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has ruled that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.
New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

CNN did a report on the energy bill this morning. The lying reporter said that no republicans supported it (lie), that John Boehner was only to speak for 4 minutes (lie) but he took an hour to read parts of the bill (pantsonfire reporter didn’t bother to say he read the parts that were presented to legislators at 3 am) and when he showed a clip of Boehner reading, there were boos (lie, the boos came from the republicans at another time. There was applause when Boehner finished reading – not boos).
Because I saw all of the events that the reporter was talking about live as it appeared on CNN, I guess CNN is not to be believed.

The US House of Representatives passed HR 2454 on Friday June 26, 2009. The 8 Republicans who voted FOR the largest tax bill ever passed by a session of Congress have 5 days to change their votes. The deadline is Wednesday, July 2, 2009.

The First Draft: Recess!
Posted by: Deborah Zabarenko
There’s a real school’s-out feeling around Washington today. Congress left town last week after the House voted for bill to curb climate change, and most lawmakers won’t be back until after the July 4 holiday weekend. The Supreme Court issues its last rulings of the term, with a full sheaf of decisions expected — but then the justices will be gone for the summer.
President Barack Obama’s hosting Colombian President Alvaro Uribe at the White House, with a joint appearance in the afternoon. In addition to a full plate of U.S.-Colombian issues, the two leaders could address last weekend’s military coup in Honduras. Obama has already called for peaceful resolution of “tensions and disputes” but he may have more to say.
Later in the day, Obama celebrates the accomplishments of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans at a White House reception. This community has criticized the president for what they see as foot-dragging on repealing the Defense of Marriage Act — which defines marriage as between one man and one woman and says states need not recognize gay marriages performed in another state — and the U.S. military’s Don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy.
On Capitol Hill, even though most members of Congress are back home, there’s one decision most will be interested in — a possible ruling by the Minnesota Supreme Court on just who has won a hotly contested Senate seat: Republican Norm Coleman or Democrat Al Franken. If Franken is declared the winner, it would give Democrats a 60-vote majority, which means Republicans can’t delay legislation with a jaw-fest called a filibuster.
Outside Washington, questions still swirl around the death of Michael Jackson, with lawyers, doctors, relatives and others opining on morning television about the circumstances of the pop star’s demise, and the fate of his three children.
There was plenty of attention focused on an expected day of reckoning set for a New York City courtroom, too: the sentencing of Ponzi schemer Bernard Madoff. Legal experts suggest he’ll get a virtual life term.

I Want My Money Back! (Pres. Obama!)
by Marie Marchand
I want my money back.
I gave $20 a week for seven months, plus $60 every once in a while for a t-shirt and sticker. I gave of my modest purse joyfully. Once I add that all up, it makes a grand total of… $106 billion?! Wait a minute, I thought I was supporting change I could believe in, not more of the same bloodshed and war!
Betrayal is a part of life. After awhile, you just come to expect it. Yet, the initial shock always hits you as a surprise. Alas, the nature of betrayal. Humans are vulnerable to being betrayed because underneath our husky shells, our pain and hardened hearts, we are soft and trustful creatures. We want to believe in people.
I’m not that young, so I possess some cynicism. But I’m not that old either, so I manage some idealism. Sure, I am used to being betrayed by my government. But I thought my days of calling the White House in tears were over. To think that Barack Obama preyed on this naive hope in me and millions like me is unforgivable.
(sniffle, snurfle..)
more:
I knew I was naïve; yet like millions of Americans, I had no choice but to believe. Our hearts were desperate for hope. We saw Barack Obama as an oasis in the desert. To think that he may be just a mirage is heartbreaking.
Oh, and please consider supporting my grassroots campaign to get my $680 back so I can donate it to the Whatcom Peace & Justice Center. Thanks.

Hate it.
There is good information on tv at PBS. C-Span (where I go every morning and callers call in with questions and complaints) and also love the History Channel. You just have to be cynical and discriminating about the things you hear. Anyhow, I know the internet is your thing, but I had to lobby a little for tv even though most of it is crap. I have the computer on all day (95% on this blog), tv is on too much and I’m working on that, and I am reading everything I can get my hand on (hard copy – hate reading online). Court Fails to Decide on Anti-Hillary Clinton Movie
The Supreme Court has failed to decide on whether a scathing documentary about Hillary Rodham Clinton that was shown during the presidential race should be regulated as if it were a campaign ad.
The court said Monday it will hear arguments in the case again in a special session on Sept. 9. The justices said they want lawyers to address whether the court should overturn its earlier rulings on limiting corporate and union contributions in federal elections.
Citizens United, a conservative not-for-profit group, wanted to air ads for the movie in Democratic primary states and also make the film available to cable subscribers on demand without complying with federal campaign finance law.

If you need any more reasons to adamantly oppose ‘Crap n Trade/Cap n Tax,’ please see the article at the following link. It’s about the so-called ‘Managers Amendment’ that apparently was slipped in at the last minute. A sample re the ‘Managers Amendment’: “It moves these billions in new expenses into programs that govern every aspect of human life including, but not limited to, farming; fertilizers; animal husbandry and animal diets; feedstock; soil; land use (forested, cleared, wetlands, etc); “manure management”; and creates gigantic new government bureaucracies (unionized, of course) to regulate, monitor and control American citizens.”

Madoff Sentenced to 150 Years in Prison for Ponzi Scheme
JACK HEALY
Published: June 29, 2009
A federal judge sentenced Bernard L. Madoff to 150 years in prison on Monday for operating a huge Ponzi scheme that devastated thousands of people, calling his crimes “extraordinarily evil.”
In pronouncing the sentence — the maximum he could have handed down — Judge Denny Chin turned aside Mr. Madoff’s own assertions of remorse and rejected the suggestion from Mr. Madoff’s lawyers that there was a sense of “mob vengeance” surrounding calls for a long prison term.
“Objectively speaking, the fraud here was staggering,” the judge said. “It spanned more than 20 years.”

The Climate Change Climate Change
The number of skeptics is swelling everywhere
By KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL
JUNE 29, 2009
Steve Fielding recently asked the Obama administration to reassure him on the science of man-made global warming. When the administration proved unhelpful, Mr. Fielding decided to vote against climate-change legislation.
If you haven’t heard of this politician, it’s because he’s a member of the Australian Senate. As the U.S. House of Representatives prepares to pass a climate-change bill, the Australian Parliament is preparing to kill its own country’s carbon-emissions scheme. Why? A growing number of Australian politicians, scientists and citizens once again doubt the science of human-caused global warming.
Among the many reasons President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority are so intent on quickly jamming a cap-and-trade system through Congress is because the global warming tide is again shifting. It turns out Al Gore and the United Nations (with an assist from the media), did a little too vociferous a job smearing anyone who disagreed with them as “deniers.” The backlash has brought the scientific debate roaring back to life in Australia, Europe, Japan and even, if less reported, the U.S.
In April, the Polish Academy of Sciences published a document challenging man-made global warming. In the Czech Republic, where President Vaclav Klaus remains a leading skeptic, today only 11% of the population believes humans play a role. In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy wants to tap Claude Allegre to lead the country’s new ministry of industry and innovation. Twenty years ago Mr. Allegre was among the first to trill about man-made global warming, but the geochemist has since recanted. New Zealand last year elected a new government, which immediately suspended the country’s weeks-old cap-and-trade program.
The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers. Joanne Simpson, the world’s first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak “frankly” of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming “the worst scientific scandal in history.” Norway’s Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the “new religion.” A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton’s Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists’ open letter.)

sad thing is if Ayers actually did ghost write for Obama..(AND was the real father of the Obama girls..)
Obama would STILL say he was “just some guy who lived in my neighborhood”
and the Obots would be just fine with that.
If the media managed to ignore all the Obama-Ayers ties during the campaign I doubt this will make even the damnedest bit of a difference.
What a sleazeball though.
I suppose I can add it to the long list of lies I pass out to O’s supporters..
They should have listened to Sarah when she said Obama was “palling around with terrorists.”

creeping sharia:
June 29, 2009
Creeping Sharia
Thomas Lifson
At least 85 Sharia Courts already exist in the UK, dispensing often illegal advice, according to the left wing Guardian:
Decisions concerning marriages not recognised under English law, polygamy, and disputes regarding children are being made by at least 85 sharia courts, according to the report by the thinktank Civitas. …
Muslim arbitration tribunal (MTA), a network of sharia courts, has been operating in London, Manchester, Bradford, Birmingham and Nuneaton since 2007 under the 1996 Arbitration Act. These make decisions that are legally binding and can be enforced by the English courts, provided they do not conflict with English law and both parties choose to use them. …
“The establishment of Muslim Arbitration Tribunals is an important and significant step towards providing the Muslim community with a real opportunity to self determine disputes in accordance with Islamic sacred law,” a statement from the organisation said.
But today’s report claims that many smaller and often informal courts are making decisions under sharia law beyond their legal remit.
“About two-thirds of Muslim marriages are not being registered under the Marriages Act, which is illegal,” said Neil Addison, a barrister specialising in the law on religion. “A woman with such a marriage would have no choice but to go to a sharia tribunal … But it’s not the way arbitration is supposed to work.”
There are 57 countries officially describing themselves as Muslim, and therefore plenty of place for emigrants to go where Sharia operates freely. If they choose the UK, they have an obligation to accept its system of justice.
The UK is in the process of giving up its system of justice by half steps. This is insane.

[MESSAGE FOR YOUR FRIENDS:
Hi,
Did you know that the military is still discharging soldiers who are gay and want to serve their country?
One of these soldiers is California's Lt. Dan Choi -- an Iraq War veteran and Arabic linguist. Lt. Choi is fighting the discharge and fighting the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. And he needs your help as soon as possible.
Lt. Choi goes on trial on Tuesday. I just signed a letter of support via the Courage Campaign for Lt. Choi, which he will bring with him to his trial. With just a few hours left before Lt. Choi's trial, more than 90,000 people have also signed on to the letter.
It's important that Lt. Choi walks into the courtroom holding as many signatures of support as possible for his fight to continue serving his country, no matter who he loves.
Will you join me in signing and urge your friends to do the same before Tuesday's trial?:

Whatever happened to transparency??? Just another f*ckin’ lie by our former good friends – the dems – maybe if we can take down the server or crash the switchboard they might change their minds………..or not – there are so many pages to it that there could be any number of additional little tidbits in there that could see the light of day……….

Obama prioritizes energy-efficiency standards
By Sam Youngman

Even as he conceded that the issue isn’t “sexy,” President Obama announced Monday that his administration is prioritizing energy-efficiency standards for home appliances, specifically light bulbs.
The president announced that the Department of Energy will accelerate the spending of a “$346 million investment under the Recovery Act to expand and accelerate the development, deployment and use of energy-efficient technologies in residential and commercial buildings.”

ABSOLUTELY, Persephone: ANY and ALL Puma’s, especially Murphy-
She’s our leader and always will be—— in my heart.
I think it’s time for us to organize, before the next
election kicks in gear and it will in 2010.
At least start, I don’t want to be the Honcho, I just want to do Something to help, but more constructive. Been a puma for more than a year, and of course, the first thing would be for us to MEET.,
I think we’re too big, for us to do it AT ONE TIME—
we’d have to organize by geography. It’s already JULY,
and these things take Time and Planning.
I just hope we don’t lose too much time, and be too late, again. Most of us have families so it would be Hard for ONE person to do this. It will take a PUMA VILLAGE for sure. I think
it’s going to take more than letters and blogs, this time around.
Anyway, if it’s just a BBQ, to START, that works for me.

Next up at bat – Russia:
Russia holds major war games in Caucasus
Jun 29, 7:17 AM (ET)
By MIKE ECKEL
MOSCOW (AP) – Thousands of troops, backed by hundreds of tanks, artillery and other heavy weaponry, began rumbling through the North Caucasus on Monday, as Russia began its largest military exercises since last year’s war with Georgia.
The Caucasus 2009 war games are being seen by many experts as a direct threat to nearby Georgia, where the government says it has rearmed armed forces and where NATO recently wrapped up its own exercises.
Experts say the exercises may also be a signal to the United States that Russia will give no ground in its efforts to maintain its sphere of influence in Georgia and other former Soviet republics. The exercise runs through July 6 – the day that President Barack Obama arrives in Moscow for a highly anticipated summit with Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev.

A little OT: but important:
————-PLEASE DO NOT BE CONFUSED – A PUBLIC OPTION IS NOT A SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM
[The following is from the prepared text of the remarks given bySteffie Woodlander, M.D., M.P.H. at a hearing on health care reform conducted by the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee on June 24 in Washington.]
"I am a primary care doctor in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and associate professor of medicine at Harvard. I also co-founded Physicians for a National Health Program. Our 16,000 physician members support nonprofit, single-payer national health insurance because of overwhelming evidence that lesser reforms — even with a robust public plan option – will fail.
Private insurance is a defective product. Unfortunately, the Tri-Committee health reform plan would keep private insurers in the driver’s seat, and, indeed, require Americans to buy their shoddy goods.
Even middle-class families with supposedly good coverage are just one serious illness away from financial ruin. My colleagues and I recently found that medical bills and illness contribute to 62 percent of all personal bankruptcies — a 50 percent increase since 2001. Strikingly, three-quarters of the medically bankrupt had insurance — at least when they first got sick.
In case after case, the insurance families bought in good faith failed them when they needed it most. Some were bankrupted by co-payments and deductibles, and loopholes that allowed their insurer to deny coverage. Others got too sick to work, leaving them unemployed and uninsured. And insurance regulations like those proposed in the committee bill cannot fix these problems…
As research I published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed, a single-payer reform could save about $400 billion annually by shrinking health care bureaucracy — enough to cover the uninsured and to provide first dollar coverage for all Americans. A single-payer system would also include effective cost-containment mechanisms like bulk purchasing and global budgeting. As a result, everyone would be covered with no net increase in U.S. health spending. But these savings aren’t available unless we go all the way to single payer…
A public plan might cut private insurers’ profits, which is why they hate it. But their profits account for only about 3 percent of the money squandered on bureaucracy. Far more goes for marketing (to attract healthy, profitable members) and demarketing (to avoid the sick). And tens of billions are spent on the armies of insurance administrators who fight over payment and their counterparts at hospitals and doctors offices. All of these would be retained with a public plan option.
And overhead for even the most efficient competitive public plan would be far higher than Medicare’s, which automatically enrolls seniors when they turn 65 and disenrolls them only at death, deducts premiums directly from Social Security checks, and does no marketing.
Unfortunately, competition in health insurance involves a race to the bottom, not the top. Insurers compete by NOT paying for care: by denying payment and shifting costs onto patients or other payers. These bad behaviors confer a decisive competitive advantage. A public plan option would either emulate them — becoming a clone of private insurance — or go under. A kinder, gentler public plan option would quickly fail in the marketplace, saddled with the sickest, most expensive patients, whose high costs would drive premiums to uncompetitive levels.
In contrast, a single-payer reform would radically simplify the payment system and redirect the vast savings to care. Hospitals could be paid like a fire department, receiving a single monthly check for their entire budget, eliminating most billing. Physicians’ billing could be similarly simplified.
Eight decades of experience teach that private insurers cannot control costs or provide families with the coverage they need. A government-run clone of private insurers cannot fix these flaws. Only single payer national health insurance can assure all Americans the care they need at a price they can afford."

Midwest Puma here (Ohio). I think the Midwest pumas are too spread out to make it practical to choose a location and have everyone travel – not like the NE where distances between cities and states are small. I would consider going to a NE meetup.

some interesting (i.e. outrageous) articles in The Advocate -
Bob Vander Plaats, a likely Republican gubernatorial candidate for Iowa in 2010, vowed over the weekend that, as governor, he would issue an executive order to ban same-sex marriage until a constitutional amendment could be placed on a statewide ballot

An incendiary one-hour special that claims gay people are attempting to subvert and convert America aired Saturday afternoon on an NBC affiliate in Tampa, Fla.
To add insult to injury, the special, titled Silencing Christians, aired the same day that nearby St. Petersburg celebrated Gay Pride. The special concerned the “homosexual agenda” and the civil rights advances that gays and lesbians have made in recent years. The special also advanced the idea that gays can be “converted” to heterosexuals.

Yes, and you should see my collection of baby teeth! Started off at .25 per under the pillow tooth, now, after bush’s wars, and obowout continuation of bush’s policies (war and more war), combined with inflation and a big time sucky economy, I’ve been leaving between $1 and $2 dollars per tooth! Aside from the PUMAs I met in Denver last August, I think MK and PB were the first Pumas I met in person. I’ve met with more local Pumas since, but even if it was only the three of us in So CA, it’s still worth the connection. It makes a huge difference in moral support.

Watching the press conference it’s obvious that she has to tow the line for BO while at the same time trying to do what she believes is right. The press were confused, asking if she thought the coup might be legal (I believe it was approved by their Congress, not just the military)because she wasn’t condeming it and did not threaten to cut off aid.
Knowing all the consequences of his leadershipand watching her do this song and dance makes me miserable!

I was wndering, in light of the Supreme Court’s decision today to over turn another decision that Judge Sotomyor made, how does that affect your support or non support of her as a candidate for the supreme court.
I really want to see many more woman on the Supreme court. I am just not too sure Sotomayor is the right one. I am certain that she will be confirmed however and that Obama’s artful exploitation of the race card will once again result in a victory for him.
It’s typical that the N.Y. Times titles it’s article Supreme Court rules in Favor of “White” Fire Fighters.

Blinded by ignorance and stupidity…. They will all burn out after a short time…. It’s a well known pattern in Politics…. So, keep doing what you are doing and stay focused and true to the course… And, the rest will fall into place…..

A couple suggestions on the prowl letter.
Kill the caps. Not even the most brainless Congresscritter is going to take you seriously if you yell at it.
“Greenpeace” is one word. And you won’t need to tell even the aforementioned witless politcal retard that it’s “a famous environmental organization.” That sounds more as if the writer is unfamiliar with it.
“Groups” is plural and needs a plural verb: “are,” not “is.”
Here endeth the grammar lesson.

I stand by the caps on the grounds that even the smartest people in Congress basically ignore and don’t read what voters send them. Putting a few lines in all caps will get their attention.
I try to walk a line between VERY SHORT letters which don’t express our views well enough, and letters which end up WAAY too long to have a ghost of a prayer of being read.
And in all cases, members/readers should always feel more than free to edit-add to- or completely re-write PROWL letters. I write them to make it easier for people to actually get the PROWLS done.
thanks again.

Michelina, when you want to type a smiley, remember to hit your space bar 3 times before you type your smiley and 3 times after you type it in. For example:
each time I type the code for smiley’s I leave 3 spaces before and after for them to work… and, yes I am on a slow and older computer too!

what’s wrong with it is, once you blush, people pile it on to make you blush more… and then when you’re really done blushing, they start tickling you… and then they either hug you and stuff or get you in a half nelson and give you knuckle noogies on your head.
All in all, blushing is the beginning of a loathsome process.

The light bulbs that Al Gore has been pushing on the America people.
The are full of mercury and therefore have ridiculously complicated and laborius directions for disposal. God help you if you break one, in fact God help your small children and pets too. These dim-bulbs are floresent and floresent bulbs are known to be bad for you health. They cannot even be manufactored in the US becuse they are so f**king toxic. I am pretty sure that all of them are manufactored in China where they are not concerned with the danger to factory workers.
The idea that any product that contains mercury could be envirnomentally sound is ridiculous. Plus the put off hardly any light. You would probably get better light from fire-flys in a jar.

Juliette, you are absolutely right… Here in the City of Riverside that very question was asked of our Public Utilities Director…. He responded: there is so little mercury that it won’t be a concern if the bulbs are disposed of in a special way….. OK, what about Millions and Million, and Billions of the freaking Bulbs that won’t be disposed of properly? What then…? And, do you think the American people will dispose them properly? (whatever that means)… No, they will go in the trash where everthing else goes and mulched up and used for land soil and that folks is where your new home may be built or where the new agricultural fields will be harvested to grow your veggies and fruit or maybe a park… Oh, Cities and Counties love to build Parks on cheap land…Of course that is land that has been contaminated, because the contamination is too costly to remove… How very sad!!!!!!!

Your comment was way up on the thread but I went over to the site and didn’t see much explanation of what the programs it dislike entailed.
Regarding some of the manure and livestock programs they are more important and relevant than they may seem. Many of them were put in place during the FDR administration because the cultural farming practices employed in the Great Plains up to the 1930’s created the catastrophic “dust bowl”.
I think the programs were a life saver. Here’s my link: http://www.history.com/encyclopedia.do?vendorId=FWNE.fw..du102200.a

My thoughts on television.
I used to enjoy the occassional laugh from a 30 min sit-com. There aren’t many of them to be found today, mostly really stupid reality shows and I can’t tolerate them for a minute.
Writing on most comedy shows has declined so much I can only scratch my head and think; do people really get paid to write this stuff?
Since the election I have to say that it is hard for me to support the Hollywood movie industry. I can hardly look at Scarlet Johannson, Tom Hanks and the rest of the Obama groupies.
I pretty much boy-cott any movie or T.V. show that supported Obama.
When I do watch T.V. its Fox News of course. I think that they are helping to get people to wake up to what Obama is doing to this coutry. Of course I used to hate all of the usual subjects over at Fox, but God how everything has changed.
Bill O’Reilly reported on Burger King’s vulgar advertising tonight. Glenn Beck has been a great help in getting people to become active citizens.
Other than that my guilty pleasure is All My Children. Pretty progressive for a soap opera. They even have an Iraq War veteran who suffered severe burns to his face and body. It’s amazing to me that a soap opera could get people to see the beauty of this character.
Yes T.V. and Hollywood movies are pretty much dead to me.
But I have really enjoyed watching my volume one series of the 70’s prime time soap by Norman Lear, “Mary Hartman Mary Hartman.”
Now that was entertainment.

This morning I got an intuitive hit to look up the history on Goldman Sachs for you PUMA’s. Like, who started it, when, & where? Like, history from a long, long, time ago (in a distant galaxy).
So I did, and so here it is, just for you (check out 3rd para!):
Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869 by German Jewish immigrant Marcus Goldman.[2] In 1882, Goldman’s son-in-law Samuel Sachs joined the firm which prompted the name change to Goldman Sachs.[8] The company made a name for itself pioneering the use of commercial paper for entrepreneurs and was invited to join the New York Stock Exchange in 1896.
In the early 20th century, Goldman was a player in establishing the initial public offering market. It managed one of the largest IPOs to date, that of Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1906. It also became one of the first companies to heavily recruit those with MBA degrees from leading business schools, a practice that still continues today.[citation needed]
On December 4, 1928, it launched the Goldman Sachs Trading Corp. a closed-end fund with characteristics similar to that of a Ponzi scheme. The fund failed as a result of the Stock Market Crash of 1929, hurting the firm’s reputation for several years afterward.[3] For this case and others like Blue Ridge Corporation [9] and Shenandoah Corporation [10] John Kenneth Galbraith wrote: The Autumn of 1929 was, perhaps, the first occasion when men succeeded on a large scale in swindling themselves. [11]

Yemeni plane crashes with 154
(CNN) — A Yemeni jetliner with more than 150 people aboard has crashed in the Indian Ocean off the island nation of Comoros, aviation officials in Yemen said Tuesday.
The jet was en route to Moroni, the capital of Comoros, from Yemen’s capital Sanaa when it crashed about an hour before reaching its destination, officials from the national airline Yemenia said. There was no immediate news of the fate of those on board.

Thanks for the heads up, Dances! Sounds like Caspie and I have quite a lot in common. ; )
Back to my serious side…ahem…Here’s a link to an article re the case concerning ’sharia-compliant finance.’ IMO, we all need to be concerned about this. Remember, under sharia (Islamic law), there is no separation of church and state, and sharia controls/dictates every aspect of an individual’s public and private behavior. If an individual does not adhere to the state’s controls/dictates, there are dire (often fatal)consequences. Also, under sharia/Islam, the state is under no requirement to protect/uphold non-Muslims. So, though ’sharia-compliant finance’ may sound benign, it absolutely is not. Our Constitution was written from the premise of a separation of church and state. I believe ’sharia-compliant’ finance or anything else, violates the very basis of our Constitution. Thanks.

Topic: Corporate America, Wall Street, & Washington
“…Reform can never truly be complete without an examination of the myriad causes of malfeasance and a true willingness to do something about them. According to James Lynn, who coordinates US Investors with Ralph Nader, “Reform is a constant project that must be worked on and can’t be forgotten; it is a long-haul project.” It requires a tremendous amount of focus and energy and desire to address the causes and not gloss over them. All activist groups stressed that if changes don’t come from Congress, they will come from workers and shareholders.
“…In order to have a lasting impact, the groups and individuals that do believe a more secure, less corrupt corporate America is possible need to grow substantially larger and become part of a much-needed system of legislative checks and balances by forcing significant change at the federal level. Without those numbers and the votes they represent – and the wider attention of the American public – there will be no true change and no hope of a more stable economic system.”

Kevin Muray is a U.S. Marine who filed a federal complaint against the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board alleging that A.I.G.’s promotion of Shar-iah-compliant insurance products violate the Establishment Clause because the federal gov. owns and controls 80% of A.I.G. and A.I.G.’s actions have becomes govenments

Good morning!
One last salvo about tv before Murphy changes the topic: I don’t watch anything except news. I agree with Julitte that FOX News Channel does the best job. I like the interviews of controversial people such as our IG that got fired and Alan Carlin whose report was squashed by the EPA. O’Reilly and Beck got on ACORN’S case and Louisiana is now investigating them. Greta had Trump talking about price-fixing by OPEC…etc. From FOX & Friends this morning-Bloomberg.com states refineries will start CLOSING if Cap & Trade is enacted. Here’s an article about how oil refineries are treated. Notice they gave out permits/bribes to get votes.

The scramble for Iraq’s ’sweet oil’
With proven oil reserves of around 112 billion barrels and up to another 150 billion barrels of probable reserves, Iraq is the greatest untapped prize for international oil companies.
To put that in context, if Iraq does turn out to have around 300 billion barrels of oil, it will rival the world’s biggest producer Saudi Arabia – which has around 160 billion barrels of proven reserves.
So it is little wonder that giant international oil companies are lining up to get back into Iraq after the industry was nationalised in the 1970s and the oil majors were kicked out.
On June 30 major companies – including Exxon, Shell, BP and Total – will gather at Iraq’s oil ministry in Baghdad for a two-day meeting to take part in the first bidding round for oil service contracts.

Re-posting from last night. This is a solid summary of the issues in the marine’s lawsuit against the feds re AIG and sharia-compliant business. We need to stay alert on this! ‘Creeping sharia’ is a huge problem because of all the companies that received TARP funds (our taxpayer dollars!)
Here’s a link to an article re the case concerning ’sharia-compliant finance.’ IMO, we all need to be concerned about this. Remember, under sharia (Islamic law), there is no separation of church and state, and sharia controls/dictates every aspect of an individual’s public and private behavior. I’m quietly celebrating the turnover of security to Iraqis today-don’t want to jinx it!
—————————————I am not putting any hope or faith in this “plan” I believe it will be a a “planned” disaster and troops will be put back in
“as needed security”……………..wars are necessary for the Admin to have greater power. Obama is a war president just like bush..more power.

contrary to the opinion of many PUMAS, I think that really, really SUCKS.
why anyone would be celebrating a dem senate majority after what those effing thugs did last year and are continuing to do is beyond me.
(and al franken really grosses me out.)
simofish 06.30.09 at 2:15 pm
OK — uppity has it going on today !!
simofish 06.30.09 at 2:17 pm
#432 – PHONE — I am so with you — I hated it when the GOP pranced around drunk on power and now the DEMS are doing it. It’s like watching 2 gangs fight each other — bunch of fucking thugs !!!
al franken grosses me out too !!

Maybe even franken and 60 will not help BO now. He has lost his momentum. Rasmussen has his approval index at -2% again today. Hopefully some of the real Dems will junp ship and save themselves. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Here is a slightly different presentation of the Rasmussen data where you can project him out to 6 months in office. BO Stinks.

I tell you what – I get so sad & depressed when I read his shit or listen to the freakin’ lies, lies and more lies & then to listen to the rationalization from the sheeple on why it’s all gonna be okay – kinda surprised that he hasn’t adopted “don’t worry, be happy” as his continuous campaign theme song.
Can we impeach the ratbastard yet???

WE (PUMAS) need a lawsuit CZAR! WE (PUMAS) need to sue the the government. If Obiecornonthecobbie can have CZARS so can we…….
We need a czar for the 2010 elections
We need a czar to bring the troops home
We need a czar to rally all Americans to go independent we will be the new party…………..
We need a czar to rally a NO to the 2010 census
We need a czar to stop buying TVs and listening to any news
We need a czar to boycott all of O’Lairs “words” (lies)
add yours to the list……..

Al Franken in the Senate should be some good comedy. And you thought Biden blew! Wait until you hear this guy. Or do the Dems think they can control the nut job?
