RANDOM ODD PHOTO
Obama’s Glorious Economic “Recovery” has stalled.
It’s hard to blame Third Wave feminists for voting for obama. They are pretty dumb.
Sen. Max Baucus ($5 million from the Medical Industrial Complex) is new gatekeeper for troubled Obamacare effort.
There is something so wrong about a President on a Permanent Campaign. After tonight’s propagandafest for health care “reform” that rewards private insurers and bankrupts taxpayers and DOES NOT deliver efficiency or better outcomes, be prepared for an obama movement onslaught this weekend. If you don’t yet have PUMA stickers to affix to your screen doors to ward off obamabot canvassers, just click HERE.
Stealth debate on immigration in Congress?
Going back to the ABC Probamaganda Show scheduled for tonight, ABC’s own poll shows that only 16% of the public believe the Obamacare plan will improve things. Meanwhile, 72% of Americans favor a public option. We have an opportunity right NOW for REAL health care reform in this country. The timing could not be better. Imagine if, while facing down an economic recession of historic proportions, the average American could AT LEAST feel secure about their health coverage. Imagine what a jolt to the economy it would be if consumers suddenly had thousands of freed up dollars to spend every year AND the peace of mind to not worry about spending or investing it.
Tragically, obama is politically outclassed in this enormous effort and, even IF his intentions were pure (which I am absolutely convinced they are not, given his hitherto utter lack of principled convictions on ANY issue), his inexperience and D.C. rookie status would predict a whiff performance. Add to that, the entrenched and bought-off Senators who collectively hold the keys to reform, and it’s clear to me that real health care reform is in fatal jeaopardy.
This really is a tragedy. Hillary Clinton most certainly would have done better. She’s been around the beltway block a thousand times and the Villagers just can’t touch her. True, Clinton dropped out and the Insider Politicians got their Obama Dream Wish Pony, but that was only accomplished by distasteful campaign operatives, and their attacks only started to work when obama pulled out the Race Card AND started hitting Clitnon with sexism and misogyny. And even THEN the DONC needed to use cheating and backroom dealing to win not technically win. Oh, and a fawning press helped too. Just a bit.
At a time in our political, economic, and social history when America really NEEDED an untouchably strong and incorruptibly confident leader; when we HAD one within our grasp, we got robbed and handed a fraudulent lightweight. How bad is he going to screw up health care reform? Will he ruin it so completely it will take another GENERATION before a true leader gets another crack at it?
Jackass.
(Yes, the rain still has not let up in the Great Metrowest. How’d you guess?)
PROWL coming up shortly.

Well, in my post downstairs I noted perhaps I was cautiously optimitstic-
I know I am a day late and a dollar short on this piece- but it is interesting none-the-less, especially in light of the state sponsored propaganda spewing out of ABC- I really can’t find a television station worth it’s salt anymore:

hello!
Murph, I can sympathize from Portland, regarding the rain situation. Our sun is finally shining here…
I’ve been thinking lately…watching O, Brazille et al lie about their support of “peaceful protest” and “fair elections” ….. WTF!!! Did they walk that walk last year? I think not.
I wish there had been more opportunities for PUMAs to mobilize and hit the streets a year ago. I realize some people located near the heart of things did so, but it would have been great to do more synchronized protests across the US. If ever the chance comes again….let’s be ready!

Stay Tuned for More of ‘The Obama Show’

In his first daytime news conference yesterday, President Obama preempted “All My Children,” “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless.” But the soap viewers shouldn’t have been disappointed: The president had arranged some prepackaged entertainment for them.

hi PUMAs.
Not much to say on health care because I just agree with what you’ve said, Hillary would have sorted it out, it sounded like a much better plan.
But on Iran: despite what the crazy Iranian regime say, I don’t think Britain and the USA are involved in Iran this time, seen the old flag burning again yesterday!
Certainly not as suggested by the crazies that the BBC shot Neda! WTF?
This is unconfirmed but via twitter/ the Guardian blog and other video it is very sad what it looks like is very possibly happening to those people who want freedom in Iran, seems like there is a massacre going on right NOW. It looks like it is getting VERY BAD.

UNITED WE SERVE
First Lady Michelle Obama and Cabinet secretaries fanned out across the country Monday to participate in community service projects as part of the launch of United We Serve, which runs through a new National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11.
President Obama is urging people to help in the nation’s economic recovery by volunteering at schools and hospitals and pitching in on community projects such as tutoring and trash pickup.
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-youth-jobs23-2009jun23,0,4863487.story
This summer, President Obama is calling on all of us – young and old, from every background, all across this country – to participate in our nation’s recovery and renewal by serving in our communities. From June 22 to September 11, United We Serve will begin to engage Americans from coast to coast in addressing community needs in education, health, energy and the environment, and community renewal.

Okay, I don’t watch much TV anymore. But last night, I happened to be waiting for someone, and forced to watch CNN during Campbell Brown’s coverage of BO’s presser. Is it just me, or do BO’s eyes always seem to look like he’s higher than a kite??? Also, I was watching with no sound (because it was a crowded, noisy place) and just reading the captioning. Brown’s interview with Axelrove, who was attempting to clean up after BO’s obvious dodging of questions re Iran, was interesting. She had the most incredulous look on her face as Axelrove gave vague PR spin non-answers to her questions. In fact, several times, it seemed as though she was on the verge of shaking her head. The facial expressions and body language seemed to say, “who are these bozos pretending they’re leading this country?” Or, does she just act that way all the time?

Count me in – I’m happy to be a NWest point person. I have no idea how marches are organized but happy to learn. Blogging is great; crowds have impact. i was just over at Confluence and was reminded that the atmosphere in Denver last year was so oppressive. I wanted nothing more than a winning lottery ticket to be able to take off and travel to be where the protesting was.
Apparently it wouldn’t have mattered….

CRAIGSLIST FOR SERVICE
So how do you find volunteer opporunities in your area? Leave it the tech community and Craig Newmark (Craigslist)
From Craig’s Blog :
Hey, the deal with the United We Serve AllForGood.org thing is that we’re making it easy to find volunteer opportunities near you.
This is the “craigslist for service. ”
Check out the right hand side, top, of this page. You’ll see a “gadget”, just enter your zipcode or similar starting with the location link, and you’ll get it, no problem.
You can also click the search icon, the magnifying glass, to search more broadly.
AllforGood.org explains on their website that they are
made up of volunteering enthusiasts from places like Google, Craigslist Foundation, UCLA, YouTube, FanFeedr and Aha! Ink. As a contributor to the All for Good project, Google is hosting the All for Good website and products. Several Google engineers worked on All for Good as a 20-percent project (Google lets engineers spend a day a week on projects that interest them), collaborating with a broader team to build the product.
So now that you are inspired to go out and make a difference, you know where to start looking!

Yet again, he makes it up as the wind blows…
WE ALL KNEW IT WAS A STUPID IDEA
WASHINGTON (CNN) – The Obama administration is seriously considering not extending invitations to Iranian diplomats for July 4 celebrations overseas, senior administration officials tell CNN.
The officials said intense discussions on the issue were taking place, but the final decision had not been made.
Late last month the State Department sent a cable to its embassies and consulates worldwide informing them they “may invite representatives from the government of Iran” to their July 4th celebrations.

Pope to meet Obama July 10 during evening audience
VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Pope Benedict XVI will welcome U.S. President Barack Obama to the Vatican July 10 for an audience scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Obama will visit Italy July 8-10 to participate in the Group of Eight summit, a meeting of leaders of the world’s wealthiest nations. The meeting will be held in L’Aquila, site of a devastating earthquake in April.
After the G-8 summit, the president and his wife, Michelle, are scheduled to fly to Ghana, arriving late July 10.
Although Pope Benedict usually meets heads of state and government in the morning, the Vatican agreed to host Obama’s first visit to the papal palace the evening before he flies to Africa.

IGs from other agencies — Barofsky, Gwynn, Weinhold — also have been under pressure from BO, and have either resigned or told their contracts would not be renewed, etc. It appears BO must see IGs as an inconvenient impediment to his complete dictatorial takeover of the United States.

EMAIL FROM MICHELLE TODAY
scarlett –
National and community service has been a cornerstone of my life, as I know it has been for many Americans. And with the daily struggles now confronting so many families, it’s especially important for us to reach out to one another and offer a helping hand.
I’ve just launched United We Serve, a national initiative to tackle our toughest problems by working hand-in-hand in communities across the country. We aim to make a real difference right now and bring more and more Americans into a tradition of life-long service to make an even greater difference down the road.
I’d like to invite you to be a part of it by joining Organizing for America’s National Health Care Day of Service this weekend. You can join up with other local OFA supporters to help improve health care services in your community and make a difference as we work to reform America’s health care system.
Sign up now to participate in a National Health Care Day of Service event this Saturday, June 27th.
There’s an old Thomas Edison quote I’ve always liked: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” It’s no secret that our country faces some enormous challenges right now, and meeting them will take a lot of hard work. But in that work lies an equally great opportunity — a chance to serve. And I do believe the chance to serve is a precious gift indeed.
Service has played a transformative role in my life — bringing me tremendous joy and helping me find the path that led to where I am today. As a parent, I believe service is a great way to demonstrate values and to teach our children firsthand what it means to commit to a purpose beyond ourselves.
It should be a part of everyone’s life. From the moment someone can walk to the day they leave this planet, service should be a part of how we give back, how we say thank you, how we express our gratitude for the lives that we’ve been given.
So I’m deeply honored for this chance to support our United We Serve initiative and Organizing for America, and I hope you’ll be able to participate this weekend. Please sign up now to volunteer at a local event:

Then I forced myself to watch some of the news coverage that night….and altho I am not a regular viewer, I, too, was kind of impressed with Campbell Brown! Also, she really was starting to nail Axelrove and they cut immediately to a commercial break!!! It was so disgusting I turned off the tv, but since when do they cut to commerical in the middle of an interview? They always say, “we have to break now.” And then either thank the person for the interview or say “we’ll return after the break.”

here’s some great news i found out yesterday a day before im supposed to get my teacher retirement check for june 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i got a card in the mail and it says my net benefit will be lower because thanks to the American Recovery Act of Investment Act 2009 the IRS issued new tables to incorparate the key tax provisions. This change increased many monthly benefit payments, by having less tax withheld.
The IRS has now reversed it’s February decision. This changes is intended to prevent retirees from receiving a smaller refund or even a balance at the end of the tax year.
Oh wow, hmmmmmmmm, they are looking after me by paying
35.00 bucks less a month or 420.00 less a year. Oh wow, im soooooooooooo glad the government is looking out for me!!!!!
That is what’s gonna happen with any health plan you have now, you will see more money taken and less help from your doctor, and even single payer aint gonna help, they will find a way to get you money, If you dont think this administration is out to get your money you are living in a fantacy world and all the Hillarys and Palins in the world wont help you.
Oh, I’m pretty sure that craigslist was doing community service long before Brand Zerobama co-opted it. I remember long ago craigslist had some type of “wish lists” that school could ask the cl community for. There are probably other examples. I’m disgusted with craigslist for other reasons—they need to have a special flag to immediately remove the sex ads because they’re showing up in odd places.
But what was it Miss Overalls was wearing when she was handing out soup? I can’t remember….jewelry? designer duds?
CJK 06.24.09 at 1:42 pm
Thanks, Zee. Maybe some among the media are waking up. Let’s keep hoping. BBL. Don’t forget the Walpin protest at the Action Center. We can’t let BO continue to hamstring and/or fire IGs. They are the independent watchdogs (there were 63 of them) who oversee the appropriate expenditure of taxpayer dollars in various agencies. Walpin was one of four IGs either fired or forced out in recent weeks by BO. These IGs work for all of us, and we must not allow them to be made the targets of BO’s retaliation for just doing their jobs on behalf of all of us beleaguered taxpayers. Thanks.
Hi rhpdx, thanks very much for the comment! (silly me — i was thinking alphabeach was my neighbor in nearby Portland, MAINE. oh well.)
3rd Wave feminism is feminism since 1990 — I think the 3rd wave started as a legitimate and needed refinement or new wave or what have you of the 2nd Wave of feminism.
roughly speaking:
First Wave Feminism: Susan B. Anthony to Alice Paul. The struggle for BASIC civil and political rights
Second Wave Feminism: Women’s Lib, Gloria Steinem, Ms Magazine, NOW: The struggle for social and cultural and economic power AND reproductive freedom
Third Wave: Anita Hill, Equal Pay, LGBT, Political Correctness, Free to Be Slutty. The struggle for control of media messages?
third wave is a bit of a mystery to me. I think it got bogged down in campus politics and a vapid youth movement.
here’s wiki on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third-wave_feminism
p.s. You should join our Secret Matriacrchy Club. It’s fun! and feminist!
Dear Michele Obama,
I found your email about volunteering to clean up America in my spam mail box. Sorry I opened it because my head exploded reading it.
Let’s see your husband has spent trillions to stimulate the economy and create jobs but you want citizens to take time off from looking for those jobs created or take time off from one of their 3 jobs that they now need in order to pay taxes for the trillions spent in stimulus money to create jobs to now “volunteer” to stimulate the economy?
Do I have that right?
In any event your email is now in the trash so you can pick it up while your volunteering to be a sanitation worker to help stimulate the economy.
from that wiki entry on the third wave:
“Third-wave feminism is a term identified with several diverse strains of feminist activity and study from 1990 to the present. The movement arose as a response to perceived possible failures and backlash against initiatives and movements created by second-wave feminism of c. 1960s through the 1970s. It also addressed issues that were not delved deeply into in the 1960s and 1970s, such as sexual harassment, largely due to the Anita Hill hearings in the Senate and violence against women. In 1992, the “Year of the Woman” saw four women enter the United States Senate to join the two already there. The following year another woman won a special election, bringing the number to seven. The 1990s also saw the first female United States Attorney General and Secretary of State, as well as the second woman on the Supreme Court, and the first First Lady to have an independent political, legal, corporate executive, activist, and public service career.”
yup. that first first lady to be so unique was Hillary freaking Rodham Clinton. She was, in a sense, a FOUNDER of the 3rd wave of feminism (remember her “women’s rights ARE human rights” speech in Beijing in 1995?). Back before it morphed into some sort of weird “free to enjoy burgers like blowjobs” or some such baloney.
Hillary was actually part of the ’second wave’, as I was during the peace and love generation…it took on new meaning as the years passed and women reached higher positions and almost cracked their heads on the lead ceiling.
As with the tides, waves are not isolated in themselves, but a progression caused by events (energy).
Each new generation sees the world from new eyes, they often do not experience the same repression as their mothers before them. Their mothers have swept the path to make things easier for their children. That is our job.
My mother never thought going to college was a good idea. She thought that being too smart would make it difficult for me to find a good man to love. Maybe she was right, they are hard to find.
During the peace and love days, the AAs were having most of the trouble and the Niet Nam war brought on more distractions. When Hillary was in the Whitehouse with Bill, many were pissed that Hillary had worked on Universal Health Care and Human Rights. Most of the public thought she should be happy to just redecorate the WH and be a fashion plate for the country like Jackie was.
Sound familiar…Michelle’s victory garden and her bare arms…
Well now that Mark Sanford is done you can start stacking the dominoes as 2012 will officially be the race of Palin Vs Obama. I have followed politics all my life and this will be the ticket in 2012. i am shaking as i am writing this because i just see the stars lining up for all of this. We will have lost this country in 2011 and americans will no longer by into the crap we have been served. I am seeing this already all over the place. Hell i heard that a Democratic Congressman in long island new york went to a townhall meeting to meet his voters on a general meet and great type of event and was met with a raucus crowd and he had to be escorted out of the arena by law enforcement. This was in a hard blue district where people were yelling about high taxes, wrongfully supporting the stimulus bill and his general support of the one. Now if this is happening in a hard blue district what is happening elsewhere through out the country. Things are changing folks and i bet the one will no longer be the one when it is all said and done. By the way you wont see these stories on ABC the Always Barrack Channel…
RememberNovember 06.24.09 at 3:16 pm
I notice that so many Pumas are in favor of a single payer system. Having come from the UK I have to say I am not certain that this is the way to go for the US. I have personally witnessed rationing of health care for elders (parents and friends) and read daily about other problems with the NHS in Britain (long wait times to see a specialist, people dying while they wait, withholding of drugs because of cost, etc..). I guess I sense a trend in this country towards discarding the older population in the policies coming out of the WH and that should make us all uncomfortable because we will all be old eventually. I do believe that we must have health care for everyone – I liked Hillary’s ideas.
Anyway, if you have not made up your mind about healthcare a good source of information and ideas can be found in:
Sick around the world (UK, Germany, Taiwan, Switzerland and Japan)
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/countries/
Each of these countries has a health care system that delivers health care for everyone – there are remarkable differences among them. You can watch the program online or check out each country. If you still have not made up your mind – this might be a good source of information.
Nope, a Rep will not win the 2012 election, not with Palin nor Romney…
Neither are supported by the majority of Repubs. 20% of Repubs did not vote last time and were willing to stay home on election day.
Their best hope is to put someone more ‘mainstream’ Repub.
That’s my guess.
I just wished that Hillary would knock Brakaco out of the Whitehouse, but I don’t think she is ready to go though that nightmare again this soon.
One thing to remember about the GOP and to their credit they will no longer be nominating the “next in line candidate” anymore. They realize they lost this with Dole vs Clinton and now McCain vs Obama. You will not see these guys walking in anymore because it was simply their turn. There is a young movement in the GOP which is more state level and i can tell you that is where the GOP will find its roots. It wont be with all the old stoggies in washington who have lived their like dinosaurs. Speaking of young what is your all feeling about Sanfords possible replacement to the GOvernors house…
The healthcare insurance industry is already rationing care by not covering the testing costs for people with chronic conditions like they do the same tests done for prevention and not accepting those with preexisting illnesses. Single payor does not automatically mean rationing.
You are absolutely correct about the current situation. I honestly do not have the answers but I am interested to know why you believe (if you do) a single payer would be the best for the US. Another major problem with the current system is that it is so inefficient and costs are astronomical, in part, because of all the paperwork involved. A single payer (the government) should theoretically improve that but unless such a system also covers all government employees and those in the unions, Obama’s propensity to shove folks under the bus makes me nervous. I guess a single payer system would be good if the coverage was the same for everyone. Also when has a government beaurocracy demonstrated efficiency?
I’m stiull cogitating.
Spin alert:
White House Spokesperson/Bullshit artist Robert Gibbs, responding to questions about paying for Obamacare by taxing employer provided healthcare benefits, is saying what’s the big deal? We got the idea from John McCain and the Republicans!
Ahem. Bullshit.
John McCain’s plan would have given every American a $5,000.00
Most people would have MADE money on that deal.
Even those taxpayers in the 50% bracket would have at least broken even.
airforcehusker and shadowfax-It is interesting reading your dialogue today because, for some reason, last night I started thinking about if the Gov. Palin would be the Republican’s pick in the next election and if the Democrats pick would be SOS Clinton. My thoughts on it are that the Democrats won’t pick Clinton because there are just too many people within the party who don’t like the Clintons. Lots of other reasons too; I’m just trying to be concise. I’m undecided about if the Republicans will pick Gov. Palin. I think there are a lot of men in the Republican party who are scared of Gov. Palin. In addition to being a strong woman, she doesn’t just follow the party line. Those two issues frighten the men. I don’t know that they can see that those two issues are what appeal to Independents and moderates in both parties. And that there are those in the media that saw her capabilities which is why they had to torpedo her to ensure BO’s selection.
I think there are a lot of men in the Republican party who are scared of Gov. Palin. In addition to being a strong woman, she doesn’t just follow the party line. Those two issues frighten the men
you are more right than you realize. Palin is a populist and she will not carry party line nor will she carry the water for the washington elite and that and that alone is what will sell here to you, me and the mom and pops across this country. Isnt it about time we get someone from outside of washington to do our bidding. It will happen and i believe we will see a national resurgence led by Sarah. You wont notice it until around 2010. She will be instrumental in the midterm elections not just for the Republicans but for you and me. She will be all about throwing out the trash in washington just like in alaska and it wont matter what party they are from. Should people be scared. Yes but that is the sign of a leader who stands for something.
Airforcehusker,
#118 – I like your enthusiasm for Palin… that being said, I’m afraid that there is no way in heck she will top the ticket.
Basically for all the reasons you just stated.
The corportists will not let it happen and the attacks on Palin will continue till they wear her down. Everybody has limits to what they will expose themselves and their families to.
IMHO it is to early to be set on any one candidate for 2012 at this time. We are only 6 months into the “O” regime and have another 42 to go… right now that seems like a couple of life times for me…
I’m not trying to dampen your belief in Palin… just explaining why I can’t just jump on any bandwagon at this point. We need to effectuate change where and as we can on issues of importance right now (speaking for myself). I don’t think we can afford to wait on any one politician to come into their own right now.
Senator Baucus raised something like 23% of his total campaign contributions from the health care industry.
Comment by Surfered | 2009-06-24 14:28:27
We don’t need “health care” reform as much as we need “health insurance” reform. Last year, the eight largest health insurance companies spent $30 billion for “selling, general and administrative expenses.” Not one dollar of that went to health care. It went to pay for that cute duck we see on TV. Their overhead is 20-30%. Medicare’s overhead is 1-2%.
rofl. I’ve half Spanish so your comment hit home with me. One time, shortly after we were married, my husband was watching a number of my aunts and uncles and me sitting at a table playing Uno and talking. During a brief lull in the conversation he said, “How do you all keep from hitting each other?” We just looked and him and then I said something along the lines of, “Huh?” with a puzzled expression. He pointed out that in addition to laying down the cards for the game our hands were flying around the table as we talked. And we never once bumped into each other.
Speaking personally about all my friends who drank the Koolaid, the answer is ‘NO’. One of them had the nerve to warn me about what I read – me – I’m sure he didn’t attempt to read the stimulus bill and the text of many pieces of legislation passing through Congress and I am sure he does not routinely check out multiple sources to get at the truth that the MSM just cannot and will not take the time to do. My guess is that he, an intelligent and reasonably well read individual, is quite typical.
Khamenei made an indirect reference to the letter in his sermon on Friday at Tehran University.
“The U.S. president said that we were waiting for a day like this to see people on the street,” the Iranian leader said. “Some people attributed these remarks to Obama, and then they write letters to say we’re ready to have ties, that we respect the Islamic Republic, and on the other hand, they make such comments. Which one should we believe?”
Key democrats struck a deal on the energy/cap and trade bill yesterday. Farm state democrats won concessions that will delay the EPA from drafting legislation that will hamper the ethanol industry. Even though the bill is over 1200 pages long, I guess the EPA gets to draft more legislation to control global warming.
No one really knows the cost of all of this. Some say it will cost a typical family an extra $150 a year in electric/gas bills and others say it will cost $1800 a year. Not only will electric/gas bills go up, but energy is needed for everything from food to homes and I suppose we can expect that to do go up, too.
In the meantime, China and India have no laws about emitting pollutants into the air. You will see companies moving to those countries who don’t have cap and trade laws and that will result in job losses for Americans.
Some of the very people who are supporting this energy bill will get rich. Generation Investment Management is a company that invests in other companies that will benefit from global warming. Governments and citizens across the globe invest in alternative energy driving up the shares of the company. The market for carbon emissions rights will be huge as soon as the restrictions are signed into law and the market for carbon offsets will grow, too.
http://www.generationim.com/
Global warming (now called climate change since the globe is not warming in the opinion of some scientists) is a consensus. Not all scientist say global warming is true. However, now carbon dioxide has become a precious commodity. Who would have thought?
So what is carbon trading?
Carbon trading — also known as “cap and trade” — is a system designed to cut the carbon emissions which contribute to global warming. Generally in a market-based cap and trade system, a central authority — such as a government or international body — sets a limit on the amount of carbon which can be emitted and then divides this amount into units which are allocated to different groups. These units can then be traded as any commodity would.
Carbon trading can occur both between countries and amongst industries within countries.
A second approach to carbon trading involves a country or business generating carbon credits by investing in “green” projects — usually in developing countries — that are said to reduce emissions.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/09/01/carbon.trading.pv/index.html
Climate Exchange plc [LSE:CLE]: Owns the European Climate Exchange, responsible for 80% of exchange-traded volumes of carbon dioxide in Europe, as well as the Chicago Climate Exchange, the only carbon dioxide emissions trading platform currently functioning in the US. Goldman Sachs has a 10% stake in Climate Exchange.
The CCX, run by Britain’s Climate Exchange Plc (LSE: CLE.L – news) , is a voluntary carbon market. Members like companies and cities agree to cut emissions of greenhouse gases by a certain time. If they fail to do so, they are legally bound to buy credits representing emissions cuts generated by other members or projects, such as destroying the potent greenhouse gas methane from rotting pig waste at farms.
Do you think the legislators are all real busy right now reading the Energy Bill?
“The naginata was also used extensively by women warriors. It is a common misconception that women of that era were submissive and subdued. In reality, they were highly trained warriors who were well versed in the use of the naginata as well as many hand to hand fighting techniques. One of the most famous women warriors was Itagaki. Famous for her naginata skills, Itagaki was in charge of a garrison of 3,000 warriors at the Torizakayama castle.”
A very good and interesting read in Our View… Don’t know if the link will work letters@PE.com Here is just a part… “Candor on Iran”? “Obama should conduct his diplomacy with a clear-eyed realization of what Iran is, not what he wishes it would be. Iran’s rulers are enemies of the United States, and have been since the regime took power in 1979. Tehran abets terrorism in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories and eleswhere. It backed the bombing of a U.S. Air Force barracks in 1996 in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 American servicemen. It slays its own people. This is a ruthless and fanatical regime, not one that has proved itself open to reason”…. The article also addresses Neda Soltan and her death..
Because he has nothing better to do.
Because he wants to succeed in health care where he thinks Hillary failed.
It’s not your fault Cinie… at least humans check on MSNBO to let us know how far they have descended into the sewer… just like any adolescent boiz when no grownups are watching, they must browse urban dictionary for ideas to entertain themselves with, regularly.
Is MSNBO still a for profit? Seems like an HD community access station in an alternate reality.
alphabeach 06.24.09 at 10:13 pm
imho – putting our records online just helps the insurance companies deny benefits. it’s all packaged as “cost saving” and “consumer-friendly” but the consumer loses out in the end.
I work in IT and this is all the rage right now. We can’t let the public buy O’s sweet talk that this is actually progress in the right direction. He’s in bed with the big money. I’m all for simplifying recordkeeping but believe me, it’s not to the benefit of the patient.
Economist, journalist, Demos senior fellow and former investment banker Nomi Prins thinks that Obama’s new plan is not such a sweeping overhaul of the financial system, after all.
She is the author of the forthcoming book It Takes a Pillage: Behind the Bailouts, Bonuses, and Backroom Deals from Washington to Wall Street. Her latest article is an assessment of Obama’s reform proposals. It’s called “Obama’s New Economic Plan: The Good, the Bad and the Weak.” It was just published in Mother Jones. She joins us here in our firehouse studio.
Here’s an excerpt from Prins’ “Other People’s Money” -
“…particularly from the 1970’s on, regulatory bodies and the laws they are supposed to enforce have been systematically weakened if not actually nullified by corporations, financial institutions, and their collusive puppet legislators.
In early November 1999, Glass-Steagall was repealed by the US Senate in an almost unanimous biparisan vote. It ushered in a period of mergers between securites firms and commerical banks, further consolidating an already consolidated industry, and enabled the use of insured customer money as carrots in the form of cheap credit for big corporate business. The George W. Bush administration was not just ill-equipped, but also unlikely to regulate the conditions that led to the post-1990’s bust; it has too much to gain politically and financially by maintaining the status quo. Even in the aftermath of the dramatic downturn, and at the time of this writing, more deregulation is still under way on the Hill, rendering tough reform talk a joke.
Yet, this corrupt market upheavel touched more Americans from an investment and personal wealth standpoint than did the crashes of the 1920’s or late 1980s. The percentage of middle-class households with at least some investment in the stock market tripled from 15 percent in 1983 to 46 percent in 1998, mostly though new types of pension plans…”
~
She’s very readable – using phrases like: “The Wall Street, Corporate America, and Washington Triangle.”
I’m reading ‘Other People’s Money’ right now, & it is excellent…highly recommended reading. You may as well read it now, since likely many more will pick up her new book when it comes out.
I think that I might just switch my party to republican to support Palin in the 2012 republican primary. I know some dems who did that to make sure a moderate like McCain was nominated.
I like Palin very much and I take every opportunity to let Obamabots know that she is a far better public servant and way more progressive than O’Bullshit could ever be.
My only problem is waiting until 2012. I am furious with so many democrats, and lets face it, Obama is the head if the democratic party, which more than makes me not want to be one.
I hope that N. Korea and Iran will wake people up to realize that America needs a leader that is for America, and not this spineless opportunist that calls himself our president.
Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz of Utah proposes that The United States Postal Worker conduct the April1 2010 Census, instead of ACORN.
He wants to present this plan to the president. The Postal Service would call a one day postal delivery holiday to conduct the survey.
I think this is a great idea and a much needed slap in the face of ACORN. I will write my Congresswoman to ask her to support Congressman Chaffetz’s excellant plan. No way is ACORN coming into my home to ask a bunch of questions that’s non of their business.
I haven’t been following the Mark Sanford affair story that closely, but this morning the morning shows are showing video of his wife walking around outside passing out a written statement telling her side of the story. Good for her not being the quiet little wife standing by his side while he spins the story at a press conference. And why do they do press conferences to announce their affairs, why don’t they just release a written statement. Anyhow, something forced him to go public with this, so I’m expecting more to come.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. John Kerry must have been channeling his inner Letterman yesterday.
The Bay State senator was telling a group of business and civic leaders in town at his invitation about the “bizarre’’ tale of how South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford had “disappeared for four days’’ and claimed to be hiking along the Appalachian Trail, but no one was really certain of his whereabouts.
“Too bad,’’ Kerry said, “if a governor had to go missing it couldn’t have been the governor of Alaska. You know, Sarah Palin.’’
The Democratic-centric crowd laughed.
Obama, the African Colonial
By L.E. Ikenga
Had Americans been able to stop obsessing over the color of Barack Obama’s skin and instead paid more attention to his cultural identity, maybe he would not be in the White House today. The key to understanding him lies with his identification with his father, and his adoption of a cultural and political mindset rooted in postcolonial Africa.
Like many educated intellectuals in postcolonial Africa, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was enraged at the transformation of his native land by its colonial conqueror. But instead of embracing the traditional values of his own tribal cultural past, he embraced an imported Western ideology, Marxism. I call such frustrated and angry modern Africans who embrace various foreign “isms”, instead of looking homeward for repair of societies that are broken, African Colonials. They are Africans who serve foreign ideas.
The tropes of America’s racial history as a way of understanding all things black are useless in understanding the man who got his dreams from his father, a Kenyan exemplar of the African Colonial.
Before I continue, I need to say this: I am a first generation born West African-American woman whose parents emigrated to the U.S. in the 1970’s from the country now called Nigeria. I travel to Nigeria frequently. I see myself as both a proud American and as a proud Igbo (the tribe that we come from — also sometimes spelled Ibo). Politically, I have always been conservative (though it took this past election for me to commit to this once and for all!); my conservative values come from my Igbo heritage and my place of birth. Of course, none of this qualifies me to say what I am about to — but at the same time it does.
President Obama suggested at a town hall event Wednesday night that one way to shave medical costs is to stop expensive and ultimately futile procedures performed on people who are about to die and don’t stand to gain from the extra care. He added: ”Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller.’
I wonder if barry will have the nerve to tell Sen. Kennedy that he should have died a year ago, rather than spend all that unnecessary money. He should have just taken a painkiller for that headache.
Oops – I forgot. Govt employees are exempt from barry’s diabolical plan.
Let’s see we could list a whole bunch of folks in congress that should just take pain killers, but yeah you are right they are excluded from this plan as are all federal employees, wow, they wont be paying for it either, wow, how convenient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didnt watch his glorious “i know everything show” never planned on it to begin with, i have seen the congress at work on tv, chris dodd is in all his glory, he’s really something to watch. I dont hear any common sense coming out of his mouth.
The plan is nearing thousands of pages now, who the hell will know what’s in this bill just like who the hell has know what is in any of these bills? Do you really know what is in any of them.
Im 900 dollars a year in the red already because of two of his bills he’s passed already.
So, if polled today and asked are you better off since obama has been in office it would be a definite NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
