Third Wave Feminism Crashing and Burning

Third Wave Feminism Crashing and Burning

Brand Obama is losing the message. The recoil among the lowly public has already registered with pollsters. But a collective resistance to his epic fraudulence, which likely started in the anti-war movement and soon spread to the LGBT community, now appears to have affected even his most blindly ardent supporters: the United States mainstream media.

The publisher of Harper’s Magazine is pulling no punches in THIS left hook to the pretendidential jaw piece:

“Obama has been lying on a pretty impressive scale. You just have to get past his grandiloquent rhetoric — usually empty of substance — to get a handle on it. I offer a short, incomplete list, which I’m sure others could easily enlarge.

• Obama portrayed himself as the peace candidate, or at least the anti-war candidate. He is not a peace president, nor is he stopping any wars. True, he promised military escalation in Afghanistan (to blunt John McCain’s accusations of wimpishness), but well-meaning folks believed their new hero would genuinely move to end the occupation of Iraq and seriously try to negotiate with the Taliban. Instead, he has not only increased the number of troops and attacks against the Afghan insurgency, he has also expanded on George Bush’s cross-border raids into Pakistan, which have killed many civilians. The way things are going, Pakistan could become the new Cambodia and Obama the new Nixon.”

Obama? The new Nixon?? But, but he’s the darling of the green, groovy, granola crowd. How could he possibly have pulled off such a masquerade? What’s that you say? The So-Called Free Press gave him a hand with that? Oh, right. Read the whole thing — it’ll make you chuckle. In an evil, smirking sort of way. (h/t Ben Smith)

I guess the dimwits who were so desperate for validation they were willing to believe a well-known liar and cheat are the same ones who are now trying to console themselves about the upset election at NOW with fairy tales about legions of stealth anti-abortion PUMA Palin supporters infiltrating the membership in order to destabilize and destroy the National Organization of Women. Holy Smokes. Good lord! What is it going to take for these people to wake up and smell the coffee?! Obama is NOT A FEMINIST. Never has been, never will be. He’s a Class A PANDERER. He says what you want to hear in order to get your vote. And if he has to lie like a rug to tell you what you want to hear, no problemo!

Wake up, Amanda. MILLIONS of experienced, politically active Democratic FEMINISTS were toweringly OUTRAGED by the sexism and misogyny that went down last year in the Democratic primaries — perpetrated by DEMOCRATS, which only added fuel to our fire, and then dragged like a disgusting stink bomb into the general election to be used with even greater ferocity against Governor Cunt of Alaska.

We’re still here. We’re still voting members of NOW. We still know how to tell the difference between bold, historic leadership and a market tested, lavishly funded Product Launch. We haven’t forgotten Amanda. And we never will. Not because it’s comforting to nurse grudges, but because what happened last year was SO bad it will continue to motivate us for YEARS to make sure it never happens again, and that the organization which purports to represent and speak for us actually, you know, REPRESENTS US. So long as the national leadership of NOW was intent on compromising its CORE mission in order to cozy up to a candidate and administration which had and has zero intention of advancing the goals or enhancing the power of women, that leadership’s days were numbered.

Because the women who used to lead NOW may be political failures as feminists, but the members of NOW are certainly not.

Iranian authorities scramble to negate Neda Soltan ‘martyrdom’

The Iranian authorities have ordered the family of a student shot dead in Tehran to take down mourning posters as they struggle to stop her becoming the rallying point for protests against the presidential election.

Neda Salehi Agha Soltan, 26, was killed as she watched a pro-democracy protest, and mobile phone footage of her last moments have become a worldwide symbol of Iran’s turmoil.

The authorities had already banned a public funeral or wake and have prevented gatherings in her name while the state-controlled media has not mentioned Miss Soltan’s death.

A ‘confused, disoriented’ whistle-blower?

As recent AmeriCorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin tells the story, when a White House aide called him on June 10, Walpin thought the administration was calling him to enlist his support – as a prominent Republican member of the New York bar – for the confirmation of Sonya Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Instead, Special Counsel to the President Norm Eisen informed Walpin that President Obama wanted Walpin out of his job.

sorry, longish, from the WSJ Political Diary (no link):

“Beware Obamacare’s Fine Print

In a desperate scramble to pay for the soaring costs of President Obama’s health care plan, the Senate Finance Committee is contemplating taxing for the first time the health insurance benefits workers get from their employers. One approach would tax the benefits only of workers earning over $100,000. An alternate proposal would tax the value of health care benefits that exceed a cap.

But the taxes wouldn’t be applied equally. Union members serving under collective bargaining agreements would be exempt, even though they often have the richest and most extensive packages of benefits. Union officials have told Democratic leaders of Congress that because collective bargaining agreements can last several years, they should be exempt from any tax because contracts can’t be changed quickly enough to avoid it.

The real reason, of course, is that unions have political clout and are exercising it. The exemption is “a means of making sure that unions are foursquare behind any reform bill that comes out,” Henry Aaron, a Brookings Institution scholar, told the Washington Examiner.

There’s a reason the Obama health care plan is being rushed through Congress this summer — because the American people would likely never support it if given time to absorb and understand such fine print. If the union carve-out isn’t sufficient to excite public anger, wait till you hear about the version of the Obama plan prepared by Senator Edward Kennedy, which would specifically exempt Members of Congress from many of its provisions.

As the U.S. Office of Personnel Management notes, Members of Congress “enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country.” According to page 114 of the Kennedy bill, a similar array of choices would not be available to other Americans in the future. Instead, they would be shunted into health insurance plans under the straightjacket of whatever the government decides is a “basic” plan.

The goal would be to restrict care for the general public in order to control costs, while making sure Congress gets the gold-plated attention it’s accustomed to. Ultimately, the rest of us would be asked to trade a private insurance company as gatekeeper for a government gatekeeper. The difference, of course, is that most of us can fire our insurance gatekeeper. Just try to do that once the government fills that role.

– John Fund

The Kevin Johnson Mystery

When Gerald Walpin, the inspector general of the government service program AmeriCorps, was fired by the White House, he complained that it was due to his dogged investigation of misspent AmeriCorps money in a program run by Kevin Johnson, the Sacramento mayor who was a major Obama backer last year.

Many in Washington dismissed Mr. Walpin’s allegations, even though his probe had resulted in a settlement in which Mr. Johnson’s St. Hope Academy returned approximately half of the $850,000 it had received from AmeriCorps. But now comes word the FBI has launched its own probe of St. Hope following a whistleblower’s revelations.

On the very day that President Obama fired Mr. Walpin, the executive director of St. Hope suddenly resigned his job. Former bank executive Rick Maya’s resignation letter charged Mr. Johnson and several St. Hope directors with ethical violations. He accused one board member of deleting emails from Mr. Johnson that were the object of a federal subpoena. Mr. Maya says that when he alerted St. Hope’s board about the possible obstruction of justice, it did nothing but notify Kevin Hiestand, St. Hope’s legal counsel and a longtime friend of Mayor Johnson. There is no evidence that Mr. Hiestand did anything with the information. Now the FBI is apparently interested enough to launch its own investigation.

“There is seemingly always a skeleton poised to fly out of Johnson’s closet,” Sacramento Bee columnist Marcos Breton commented last week. The same could be said of Mr. Obama’s handling of Gerald Walpin’s firing, in direct contravention of a law protecting inspectors general that Mr. Obama himself had co-sponsored last year as a Senator. That law required Mr. Obama to specify reasons for Mr. Walpin’s removal and give him 30 days notice. Mr. Obama has since complied with those provisions, but the reasons he gave for the firing look increasingly flimsy and forced in light of the new FBI probe of Mr. Obama’s friend, Mr. Johnson.”

Thanks for the link to the article, Puma-SF. Another example of the shell game that the fraud and his pets in Congress continue to play. “Watch the pea. No, it’s not under there; it’s over here.” That’s the way they keep bamboozling the public, by diverting attention to what they’re really doing. Both pieces of legislation need to be defeated. Also, seems to me the Dems are running scared because of the fraud’s falling approval rating. They want to rush through as many crap bills as possible before the sh– really hits the fan and they won’t be able to.

Sarah Palin vs. Hitler’s’ children

John Ziegler had said that he knew David Letterman would not lose his job, and he is probably right on that count. But this protest, getting significant media coverage, was the beginning of a true revolt against what has become the media’s acceptable bashing of women, using a Republican icon and her girls as their target. Even the Huffington Post had recently published an article called “Letterman Quietly Ushers in the Next Wave of Feminism.”

And PUMA-PAC, the die hard Hillary supporters with a low opinion of “party unity” are still very much alive and now taking a strong stance against not only David Letterman but also attacking Bill Maher’s defense of Letterman, urging canceling of HBO service, Maher’s employer.

RICH, isn’t it??

summary:

Americans get sucky healthcare unless they are a union or a congress member.

If they go with taxing “value,” what happens in parts of the country (like the northeast-MA, CT, NY..) where the “value” is higher?
How could that method be applied fairly?

And where is that 5K refundable tax credit offset that alt least Mccain was going to give every American?

One thing that won’t change under the new plan are the HUGE profits the insurance companies will make.
This “reform bill” was approved by them.

How is ACORN Cashing in on Foreclosure Mitigation?

Last May, ACORN Housing was awarded a $7.8 Million National Grant for Foreclosure Prevention Counseling to support ACORN Housing’s foreclosure counseling intervention efforts.

The funds from the National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program were approved by Congress in the FY08 Consolidated Appropriations Bill. The National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program is administered through a competitive application process by NeighborWorks® America, within guidelines defined by Congressional legislation.

In addition to that grant, they were apparently awarded another $100,000 to offer these services to homeowners in foreclosure in the St. Louis, Missouri area by tyhe City of St. Louis under the leadership of Slay.

Earmark ‘unlikely’ for Rainier Club

While descending a tiled staircase into The Rainier Club lobby, U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott said Monday he doubts his request for a $250,000 earmark to cover renovations at the exclusive downtown Seattle club will win approval from federal lawmakers.

“Given what’s going on in the country these days, it seems unlikely to me,” the Seattle Democrat said, amid a backdrop of fine artwork and antique furniture. “I’m not going to say definitively they won’t. That’s just my opinion.”

Asked if he felt a private club with wealthy members deserved a federal earmark, McDermott said the same question can be asked of the Seattle Art Museum or the UW, which possesses “a huge endowment.”

Does this help? This is the shorter version webfoot posted on the previous thread. Can you copy and paste this into your e-mail to send to your members of Congress, AARP, etc.

Gentlemen:

I’m writing simply as an American citizen to express my grave concerns about the future of equality of rights in America in light of the patently unwarranted, illegal and unconstitutional firing of Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS/Americorps) Inspector General Gerald Walpin. I trust that you both share these concerns and I urge you to honor the profound trust the people of this nation have reposed in you – in your positions where partisan politics have no place – by joining Mr. Walpin and members of Congress in demanding a full Congressional hearing and investigation into Mr. Walpin’s firing.

The people of the United States have made great strides in combating racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and other forms of discrimination. We must not allow age-based discrimination to stand unchallenged, particularly when perpetrated by individuals at the highest levels of government. We must remain as vigilant and vigorous in recognizing and combating ageism as we have remained in recognizing and combating other forms of bigotry.

The despicable act of ageism against Mr. Walpin must be addressed firmly and swiftly. Allowing the unwarranted, illegal, unconstitutional firing to stand will send a chilling message to other Inspectors General; the wrong message. These individuals must remain unfettered by any threat of retaliation in order to properly do their jobs as “watchdogs” who work diligently to ensure appropriate use of hard-earned taxpayer dollars. It would also send a message of despair to all Americans – particularly older Americans like me – that their rights are expendable in the face of political cronyism, corruption and thuggery.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

42

Did Obama work with Huff Post?
By MICHAEL CALDERONE | 6/23/09 2:34 PM
Was the Iran question a coordinated exchange?

Reporters typically don’t coordinate their questions for the president before press conferences, so it seemed odd that Obama might have an idea what the question would be. Also, it was a departure from White House protocol by calling on The Huffington Post second, in between the AP and Reuters.

CBS Radio’s Mark Knoller, a veteran White House correspondent, said over Twitter it was “very unusual that Obama called on Huffington Post second, appearing to know the issue the reporter would ask about.”

According to POLITICO’s Carol Lee, The Huffington Post reporter was brought out of lower press by deputy press secretary Josh Earnest and placed just inside the barricade.

So the f*ck what if “Sarah Palin supporters/defenders” swung the NOW election? Maybe that will scare the third-wavers who think the patriarchy wrapped in a pink bow = feminism into their senses.

And when the f*ck did Sarah Palin become the wicked witch of the west that we all have to fall all over ourselves explaining how we “don’t agree with her, but she shouldn’t be called a slut/smeared/slurred” with such bogus crap re: rape kits & “abstinence only?” Has that what this world has become that we have to preface our defense of how much we don’t like the woman but still don’t call her a slut? F*ck that shit — I’m done apologizing for being a WOMAN FIRST.

And to paraphrase yttk over on Violet’s site: being a “bitter old white woman” isn’t a f*cking insult either. There’s not an organization in this country, not a single social movement that didn’t have “bitter old white women” carrying a big part of the load. Judging from all the fear bitter old women have inspired, they must hold some real power. Sounds like the key to social change is to rally up more of them.”

Hi PUMAs — Just wanted to let you know that I also faxed my letter re the Walpin firing to the Acting Chairman of the EEOC as well as to the Director of the Center for Civil Rights. I received a call from someone named Michelle in the Executive Office of the Secretariat (in the office of the manager of correspondence for the EEOC Chair) asking for a mailing address. She also wanted to know my gender. When I asked why, she said it was in order to properly address the reply. She said I should be receiving a response within 30 days. She said this was “the first piece of correspondence” she had seen on this issue. She said she is aware of the Walpin matter because of the news. I thanked her for taking the time to call, and reiterated the seriousness of my concern re the future of equality of rights in America, particulary in terms of older Americans.

Here are fax numbers for the Acting Chairman of the EEOC and the Director of the Center for Civil Rights:

So, does this mean future prowls defending Palin won’t contain phrases like “even though we don’t agree with Palin’s policies…”

I was very disappointed to see that in the Letterman prowl and I couldn’t sign the damned letter because of it.

(anyway, which policies don’t we agree with? The same sex partner benefits signing or the pro-choice female judge appointments? Or is it her balanced budgets, ethics reform, leaving her personal beliefs out of government..?)

CJK 06.23.09 at 4:10 pm

P.S. The woman who called me actually saw/read my fax. She had to have called the mail services outlet I used for faxing the letter to get my phone number, which was required on the fax cover sheet that also gave the outlet’s phone number. I also faxed the letter to members of Congress who would be appropriately interested in the Walpin firing (e.g., Senators on the Special Committee on Aging, and members of Congress concerned about the apparent violation of the IG Reform Act of 2008 and its predecessor law.), as well as a few others. I can post those fax numbers if anyone’s interested. Please share this and my previous post with those interested in this matter. Thanks.

yup, I hear you Persephone. I was writing that with our enemies in mind — the losers who try to diminish us by lying about who we are and what we’re about. But you’re right — and angienc and yttk (who actually wrote that comment. i think. it’s so hard to keep track!).

Personally, I disagree with her pro-forced pregnancy stance. vehemently. I also want to clearly distance myself from many of her vocal Republican supporters, those who popped popcorn and watched in GLEE as the obama movement used sexist lies to hobble Clinton. Some of Palin’s followers are a bit deranged and cult-like. Their “feminist” outrage seems more than a little manufactured.

Palin’s pro-forced pregnancy position doesnt exclude her from the feminist club, by my definition anyway. I argue that not only does she qualify for protection from sexist/misogynistic attack (as ALL women do. how can they be soooo stupid as to deny such an obvious fact!?!?!?), she also qualifies AS a feminist herself.

how the CRAP can you get elected the governor of Alaska, with ZERO insider connections, as Riverdaughter pointed out this morning, and set up your family situation so that your husband is bascially a stay-at-home dad for cripes sakes, making you the Alpha Earner of the family, and NOT be a feminist???

are they as stupid as they seem or is this concerted propaganda?

Cop taped beating Chicago bartender gets probation

CHICAGO (AP) — An off-duty Chicago police officer convicted of pummeling a female bartender half his size was sentenced Tuesday to two years probation and anger management classes for the videotaped attack that appeared worldwide on the Internet and cable news channels.

Cook County Circuit Judge John Fleming also gave Anthony Abbate a home curfew of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and ordered him to perform 130 hours of community service.

“If I believed sentencing Anthony Abbate to prison would stop people from getting drunk and hitting people, I’d give him the maximum sentence,” Fleming said.

Earlier this month, the judge rejected Abbate’s claim he acted in self-defense and convicted him of aggravated battery. A tavern security video shows a drunken, 250-pound Abbate punching and kicking the 125-pound Karolina Obrycka as she tended bar in February 2007. The altercation happened after she refused to serve him more drinks.

“He’s not a bad man, he did something bad,” said defense attorney Peter Hickey.

So easy to beat a woman. He got probation and community service. I don’t want him in my community.

Obama’s Af-Pak mess gets messier:

“ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A rival of Baitullah Mehsud, the powerful Taliban leader who has carried out a string of bloody suicide bombings in recent years, was shot dead Tuesday in northwestern Pakistan, police officials said.

The death of Qari Zainuddin, the rival leader, comes as a serious blow to the government, which had supported him as a counter to Mr. Mehsud in its campaign against the Taliban.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/24/world/asia/24pstan.html?hp

at the same time that his LIE about “ending the war in Iraq” looks more and more ridiculous:

FALLUJA, Iraq — Falluja was supposed to be a success story, not a cautionary tale.
After all, by last year the city, a former insurgent stronghold, was considered one of the safest places in the country. Local Sunni sheiks had driven out the insurgent group Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia and held successful elections, and American engineers were hard at work on a showcase reconstruction project: a $100 million wastewater treatment plant meant to be a model for civilian advances in Iraq.

Then a series of troubling attacks began cropping up this year. One in particular, at the end of May, seemed to drive home the possibility that things were changing for the worse. On a heavily patrolled military road between a Marine camp and the wastewater plant, a huge buried bomb tore through an armored American convoy, killing three prominent reconstruction officials and striking directly at hopes that the way was completely clear for peacetime projects.”

“Governor Palin Signs Domestic Violence Legislation

June 23, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today signed legislation expanding the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. The bill adds a rural representative to the council. It also adds a representative from the Department of Corrections.

“As Alaska’s governor, as a wife, mother, and as a woman, I am very aware of the atrocious domestic violence and sexual abuse and exploitation statistics that plague our state,” Governor Palin said. “Objectification contributes to high rates of abuse and exploitation by reinforcing a victim’s belief that he or she has to endure abuse instead of being empowered to break away from it. This council’s expanded efforts can help stop this violence. Together we can stand for what’s right and end abuse in Alaska.”

House Bill 63, sponsored by Representatives Anna Fairclough, Lindsey Holmes and John Coghill, adopts membership and employment recommendations of a legislative task force charged with reviewing the effectiveness of the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. HB 63 expands the number of public members on the council from three to four; those members cannot be state employees.”

The Tea Party group made some comments about the “homosexual agenda” and when I questioned them I got a barrage of negative e-mails — so I don’t feel compelled to hang out with a group of “haters” —

All day long I have been blasted by this woman telling me I need to be more American and come together with everyone.

WTF? I don’t want to protest with them anymore. Is that so wrong? WTF? I would rather hang out with people I like. Sounds like what the Obots do. You must do this – you must to that. I don’t give a rats ass if someone else wants to protest with them.

I couldn’t agree more.
Sarah Palins 90% approval rating exists because she has served her constituants amazingly well. She is far more of a progressive leader than most in my own party. Giving up a private jet, negotiating profit sharing with big oil, contracting what will be America largest engineering endeavor-natural gas pipe line to the lower states. I could go on and on. She is a completely self made feminist who doesn’t put up and shut up for anyone. All 18 bogus ethics charges against her have been dismised, but no news of that in the MSM.
This woman is the greatest threat to Obama, and it would be poetic justice to see her take the presidency away from him in 2012, or sooner!

My idea on the newish NOW election.

I could tolerate having Repubs and Dems work together long enough to ratify the ERA, and fight for women’s rights. Don’t like the pro-life/pro-choice fight between women. Don’t like it’s past mistakes not defending Hillary, nor being in O’s pocket now.

Sort of like herding cats again. Men must love the fight between women, why the ERA hasn’t passed…

Me neither shadowfax. I think it has been an excellant ploy to keep women divided. Some of the most progressive pro-choice state legislation has passed, ironically enough in California while Regan was governor and in Texas while Bush was governor.
And Sarah Palin has appointed a pro-choice judge to Alaskas supreme court.
So many women I know who didn’t originally drink the Kool-Aide, ultimately let themselves be manipulated with the abortion issue and the anti-Palin propaganda. To bad they couldn’t see that Palin and McCains position on abortion was in no way different than the position of Jimmy Carter.

The New York Times in 2005 called this crowd nonviolent, yet dangerous. Russia and Germany have banned them.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is the Jihadist group. Not ‘a’ Jihadist group, it is the Jihadist group. The core principle of this group is the restoration of the Caliphate.

HT is not a terrorist organization, but it can usefully be thought of as a conveyor belt for terrorists. It indoctrinates individuals with radical ideology, priming them for recruitment by more extreme organizations where they can take part in actual operations.

HT(Hizb-ut-Tahrir or the Party of Liberation), envisions a three-step process.

The focus in the first stage is on building the party through recruitment and propaganda. Prospective candidates are brought in through study groups.

In the second stage, members are asked to blend in with the population and infiltrate the government.

When the second stage is complete, the ground will supposedly be ripe for the third: an Islamic state. HT believes it can carry out the revolution in a nonviolent manner, relying on the penetration of government institutions and the recruitment of key officials.

Today, HT is active in more than 40 countries, and on the Internet. In the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia, HT aims to overthrow governments, since it sees regimes there as direct obstacles to resurrecting the caliphate.

Hi webfoot. The woman who called me from the correspondence office of the Acting Chairman of EEOC was responding to my fax. I posted the list of fax numbers I used, and am re-posting below, just in case anyone missed them earlier. I also asked Dances to post them in the Action Center, too. I’ve been out on errands and haven’t yet checked the Action Center. I just don’t have full confidence in e-mails. I know they typically generate almost instantaneous responses, but one never knows whether they’re routed to someone who can actually do anything or whether they just wind up in someone’s deleted e-mails.
But, I think sheer volume of e-mails is an important statement, too.

So is sheer volume of faxes! So, here are:

Fax numbers I used for my letter re the Walpin firing. Thanks.

And thank you for posting the additional information on Khilafah. As I understand it they are also banned in some middle east countries.
As a member of Act for America I receive this kind of information regularly. I cannot believe that America has become so wreaklessly naive about the threat of Islamitization of American citizens.
The N.Y. times burying of the story on a home grown terrorist’s murder of an Army recruitment officer was shameful. N.Y. times also avoided using the terrorist’s choosen Islamic name, referring to him instead by his given American name.
We really need to wake up as Americans. Islam is a threat and is spreading like a cancer througout the world.
There is no other person we could have elected president who would have been more hospitable to the Islamitization of America than Barak Obama.
Is it any surprise that this Khilafah conference is being held just outside of Chicago?

Shadowfax #89

Don’t like the pro-life/ pro-choice fight between women.
—————————————————————-

——
I agree. Here’s what I wrote earlier today, but was reluctant to post it. Your comments gave me the courage. I hope I’ve expressed my thoughts clearly. Or, maybe I need to go back and rethink.

A thought: Can one not be “pro-choice” and “pro-life” at the same time??? Before I get verbally walloped and accused of being one of those ’stealth anti-abortion PUMA Palin supporters’ or a flatout rightwing wackadoodle, let me explain. Please set aside your assumptions about those labels for a moment, if you can. I’m sure the Dems did studies that showed the abortion issue to be the absolutely pivotal ‘wedge’ women’s issue (if not, why else would Ofraudo and cohorts have used it like a tire iron during the campaign to get the dimwits to vote for him??? We know he didn’t give a rat’s patootie about any other women’s issues!!!) Anyway, I raise my question because of what I recall to be HRC’s position on the matter, which to me is inherently “pro-life” at the same time it is “pro-choice.” I believe HRC’s position (paraphrased in my clumsy way) is that we should be doing everything possible to ensure that women retain the option to terminate an unwanted pregnancy if/when necessary, while we should also be doing everything possible to minimize the need for women to have to make that choice. Thus, HRC’s position is actually “pro-choice” and “pro-life” in the best sense of those words (minus all the nasty stereotypes that have grown up around them). When you get right down to it, is anyone really ever not “pro-life,” meaning is anyone really ever “pro-abortion” in the sense of actually favoring or promoting the act of abortion? Speaking from a personal perspective, I doubt that most women who ever faced an unwanted pregnancy and chose to terminate it were, in fact, complacent about it. It is a deeply traumatic decision that no responsible woman would want to face. I agree with HRC’s position: Continuing to do whatever is necessary to ensure every woman’s right to privacy and free choice in matters of her reproductive health/life, but at the same time also continuing to do whatever is necessary to ensure availability/affordability of a range of pregnancy prevention counseling, education, literature, devices/prescriptions (for sexually active women AND their sexual partners!) in order to minimize the need for abortion. I would venture a guess that there are lots of people who agree with HRC’s position. We just keep getting hung up and unnecessarily enraged by the stereotypes that go along with those labels. Maybe we should just get rid of the labels???Okay, let the walloping begin…..

o/t question..are we still doing pig of the day? This Cook County Circut Judge John Flemming certainly qualifies. He let off the cop who brutally beat a woman bartender off with 2 years probation. On the news it said that the NOW are planning a protest against the judge. I went to the website but did not see anything. This is a quote from the judge and a link to the article:
Cook County Circuit Judge John Fleming sentenced Anthony Abbate in a downtown courtroom Tuesday, imposing a home curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and ordering Abbate to perform 130 hours of community service.
Quoting a line from one of his favorite movies, “Animal House,” Fleming admonished the defendant.
“Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son,” he said.

I think the judge qualifies for a pig-of-the-day award. I saw a news clip of the security videotape of the guy beating the woman bartender. It was horrendous.

Another worthy nominee is the judge who went light on sentencing Chris Brown for beating up Rihanna. She looked like she’d been through a blender.

I understand your position very well. I have always considered myself to be pro-choose life. Meaning that life is a beutiful choice when it is just that, a choice and not a mandate.
Most of our presidents have been able to separate their moral convictions from the legality issue on abortion.
I aslo believe that banning abortion could be equally harmful to children as to women who wish to have an abortion. One example would be a woman who is not capable or not willing to raise a child with, Downs Syndrom. I give great respect to Sarah Palin for giving her child a chance at life, and she is fortunate to have a strong family support system. But if a women feels incapable of raising a child with Downs Syndrom perhaps aborting the child might be better than the alternative-a life for that child in a state facility. I don’t hate people who are pro-life, especially those who also oppose the death penalty. Life is good. Choice is good.
And neither John McCain nor Sarah Palin have allowed the issue to affect their appointment or acceptance of a choice for state or US supreme court.
I did find Obama’s defeat of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act to be beyond extreme. I mean after a child is born and issued a birth certificate as required by law, there is no longer a choice. That child has rights, and everybody in the U.S. senate understood that. Then State Senator Obama, did not understand that.
He doesn’t understand alot of things.

Bank says it needs subpoena from Issa’s panel
By Silla Brush
Posted: 06/24/09 12:15 AM [ET]
Bank of America has signaled that it would cooperate if Congress subpoenaed details of a VIP loan program that doled out cut-price mortgage deals to senators and other government officials.

In a written response to questions from Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), ranking member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the bank said it would not respond without subpoena. The committee has not issued a subpoena so far, and Issa’s letter seeking information came without the signature of committee chairman Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-N.Y.).

There is a Very Great Deal of Cr@p in the news today. Murphy has a short list. Lady Boomer NYC has a longer list. And if you ask me, it is a Very Good Thing. I felt inspired (as usual) when I read Cinie’s post:

… In other words, people who’ve been paying attention, regardless of party affiliation or anything else, are fully aware of the gamesmanship of the Pretendident’s Obacolytes, and, either fully embrace and support them as necessary and novel, or, reject them as…well, what they are. Cheating. …

All this lying, cheating and stealing. Being perpetrated by the latest in a “succesion of frauds“. Everyone’s up in arms about the election in Iran? Good! Perhaps it will remind them of the DNC’s selection of That One. Or the Supreme Court’s selection of That Other One just eight years back. Republicans are righteously angry about the firing of Inspector General Gerald Walpin? Good! Then maybe they’ll be reminded of Bush’s

My comments to Donna Brazil’s e-mail:

When I think of voters rights, I do not associate the Democratic party with this term anymore. I am not surprised,(more embarassed)that you had the gall to send out this e-mail. After the sham that was suppose to be the Democratic Convention in Denver, I, like others, realized my party did not want or respect my vote on the issues at hand. Never, have I witness a more biased, fixed and downright exclusion of the party members, as I did last year. That’s why I am now an Independent after being a life-long Democrat. I’m sure I will be labeled a racist, or a angry woman. I am not a racist, angry woman….yes!

As a matter-of-fact Donna, there are many angry woman,(including your black sisters) and men out there that feel both political parties are a sham and both treat women like second rate citizens.

Be thankful Donna, that there are those of us that will fight until we see the 51% of Americans that are women, truely represented by our government. We will work to see that a woman canidate from any party can focus on the issues at hand and not have to justify her hairstyle, her pantsuit, her make-up, her family, her lifestyle or any other media deemed “news.” We will fight until women are treated exactly like men. No real scrutiny, no real hard questions, and definitely no real vetting! Yes, Donna, hold your breath, because women will gain the highest office one day if your voter’s rights are truly protected by the law. Women will be able to go to a polling place without fear of harassment, or concern that their vote is being tampered with. Women will be in charge one of these days, and Donna, there will be a reckoning for those women that stood by and let this bullshit happen.

“CJK, yes loved RD’s post and this Dana Milbank from Washington Post. My God, could it be we may get out “freedom of speech back” in the media?”

As I read the Milbank article (thanks for posting the link),I couldn’t help but recall how often Reagan was the butt of jokes from the media and the so-called Dem/liberal left intellectuals about his role in the film “Bedtime for Bonzo.” I was a Dem for 40 years, so I’m not speaking as some rightwing whackadoodle. (I distinctly recall standing in front of the TV being totally depressed when Mondale/Ferraro lost to Ronnie, because I wanted so much to see a strong woman at the top echelon of our government. No, I didn’t actually think Mondale was so wonderful, but I loved Geraldine Ferraro.) While I’m sure that BO’s PR machine believes his constant TV presence is generating some kind of “star quality” to dazzle the public and delight/amuse the press, it seems to me that it runs the risk of casting him in the light of just another Rev. Wright. If you don’t pay any attention to what he actually says, he may be a hoot to watch, but do you really think he can lead the world’s most powerful nation, especially at a time like this? Also, I would like to believe the MSM is becoming disillusioned with BO and may be waking up to the First Amendment, but BO’s constant presence on TV these days reminds me of the 24/7 presence of dictators du jour on state-controlled TV in countries such as China, N. Korea, Iran, etc.

173

CJK 06.24.09 at 11:34 am

P.S. Anyway, loved the Milbank piece. We can only hope that it indicates some among the media may be emerging from the ‘Kool-aide stupor,’ and actually seeing BO in the cold light of reality, finally realizing what PUMAs have recognized all along, like the child in “The Emperor’s New Clothes” — “But, the emperor is naked!”

… I mean, really, if the Obaporn fluff staff of the GE donor-owned pseudo news source ever fully turned on the object of their affection, a squadron of rocket-propelled, pamphlet-dropping, DayGlo painted Goodyear blimps with flashing strobe lights, amped-up calliope music and bungee cord-connected, dangling dancing girls booty bumping parachuting Elvis impersonators clad in Christmas tree light festooned black velveteen sequined jumpsuits and Ronald McDonald clown masks, all leaping and cavorting mid-air while special jets pumped out multi-colored cotton candy-like skywriting messages proclaiming, “So what if he’s black? Obama sucks!” would be required, at a bare minimum.
