Breaking news: A Continaental Arlines pilot died while in the middle of a flight. A first officer is going to pilot the plane and try to land it safely. This is on Fox tv news.

They’re going totry to land in Neward, but the fog is so thick there you can hardly see the planes sitting on the ground.

That’s Newark where they are trying to land.

The pilot happened to be 61 years old and last year the FAA bumped up the mandatory retirement age from 60 to 65. I suppose a controversary will start about that. The really scary thing was that this was an international flight from Brussels and I believe I heard the news man say he actually died last night, but I can’t confirm that now.

Thank goodness the plane has landed safely, my son and his band sevendust on tour in europe after entertaining the troops in iraq, so im just freaking here with all these planes having various issues, thank goodness they landed safely.

I have been thinking about why obamas poll numbers remain high it light of any “concrete results” but then again obama was “elected” without having any concrete results of any of his chosen careers.

If you asked people during the campaign “what has he done?”
You would get that blank stare. I ask people now “what has he done that has you still shouting Yes he can? I get that blank stare.

I doubt we will ever see a major decline in his approval ratings because the people who elected him without any need for concrete results still have no need for any concrete votes. It was a non issue then and it will remain a non issue.

Dare I say Obama was elected because he was the first black president and as long as he remains black he will have their approval.

Since AmeriCorps began in September 1994, about 2,600 nonprofit and community groups a year have worked with volunteers to improve communities. For their service, volunteers get a $4,725 education award for college or graduate school and a living allowance.

The AmeriCorps’ office of the inspector general began looking at Hood Corps in April 2008; in preliminary findings last September, it found that two St. HOPE employees received AmeriCorps living allowances and education awards – duplicating their salaries.

The inspector general also found that AmeriCorps volunteers were engaged in activities beyond the scope of the grant – such as recruiting students for Sac High and for a new charter opening in Harlem and doing clerical tasks at Sac High. Alice Paul and others broke from the mainstream women’s-rights movement and created a more radical wing, daring to push the boundaries of political protest to secure women’s voting rights in 1920. In light of what Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin have had to endure, do we not see history repeating itself!?

I can’t let this go. My own Republican rep. has NOT signed on to co-sponsor, even tho’ he DID in the last session of Congress. (I met with his senior field rep. yesterday, and it seemed like I had his ear. We discussed Sarah Palin at length and how PUMA, a predominantly Dem. organization overwhelmingly reached out in support of her! THIS FEELS VERY BIPARTISAN TO ME. My fervor for this might be a bit annoying for some, so my apologies in advance. Some others have asked, so I felt you all were due for an update.

Great work, rancho! I worked on behalf of the ERA and ERA Extension back in the late 70s/early 80s. I gave an “Alice Paul Birthday Celebration” at a local venue with reps from various women’s organizations, which included Barbara Feldon (played Agent 99 in TV’s “Get Smart.”) I researched Alice Paul and prepared a writeup for the event’s program and press release. She was an amazing feminist and wonderful role model. I loved one quote of hers in relation to the work for equality of rights for women, “Once you put your hand to the plow, you don’t quit till you reach the end of the row.” I feel that way, not only about equality of rights for women, but equality of rights for all.

Yes CJK! I BELIEVE that quote was something her mother always said to her.

Every supernova starts as a modest spark. Even Michelangelo began his career with less than Sistine-worthy work. What, exactly, was he doing? According to the 16th-century art-stargazer Giorgio Vasari, the master’s virgin effort was a smallish, slightly customized painted copy of a German print.

The print, an engraving by Martin Schongauer called “St. Anthony Tormented by Demons,” was in wide circulation when Michelangelo began his art apprenticeship in Florence in 1488. It was at this time, according to Vasari, that he produced the painting. He would have been 12 or 13. It was only later that he turned his attention to sculpture.
