Today is our First Birthday!

First, a quick rundown of the news:

President Olookatme is a LIAR.
He’s also a MUSLIM now apparently.
And he’s breaking hearts left and right. Well, maybe not Right, but definitely LEFT.

I’m reprinting some excerpts of posts from Puma’s first few days. Here’s the first post evah:

Puma PAC was inspired by SM, a commenter at Riverdaughter’s incomparable blog,The Confluence, as well as by the shared wisdom and frustrations expressed by the regular commenters there. All of the wonderful writers and readers of that blog, as well as of the blogs on the blogroll are welcome here — to comment and post.

All who are tired of being ignored by the Democratic party; who are not ready to have our voices in the national political conversation silenced by a divisive movement and its complicit media enablers; and who are not willing to give up our seat at the table of government are welcome here!

Regulars will know that there is another, more defiant meaning for the acronym P.U.M.A., and until the voices of Pumas are once again listened to by the leadership of the Democratic party, we will be guided by that defiance.

Puma PAC is a political action committee organized in June 2008. We are motivated to action by our shared belief that the current leadership of the Democratic National Committee has abrogated its responsibility to represent the interests of all democrats in all 50 states. They are misleading our party and aim to mislead our country into nominating an illegitimate candidate for president in 2008. Our goals are fourfold:

To support the candidacy of Hillary Clinton

To lobby and organize for changes in leadership in the DNC

To critique and oppose the misogyny, discrimination, and disinformation in the mainstream media, including mainstream blogs and other outlets of new media

To support the efforts of those political figures and groups who have allied themselves with Hillary Clinton and who have demonstrated commitment to our first three goals

June 2, 2009

Among the six U.S. servicemember deaths so far reported in June, one soldier has become the 5,000th casualty of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to Icasualties.org the wars have cost at least 4,308 lives in Iraq and 695 in Afghanistan.

Military Families Speak Out noted the milestone in a press release published today. The antiwar group, which was formed by military families in 2002, asked President Obama to swiftly end the wars, as promised during last year’s presidential campaign.

However, as the U.S. Congress returned from a weeklong Memorial Day break yesterday, the lawmakers’ main war concern was not ending either campaign, but in finalizing a new war funding bill for the president to sign.

President Obama originally asked for $84.3-billion to continue the wars. Both chambers then added their own items, bringing the final tally for the House to $96.7-billion and the Senate’s to $91.3-billion in additional funding.

Obama has now announced, on the eve of his pilgrimage to make obeisance to the entire Islamic world, that the US can be seen as a Muslim country:

‘And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world,’ Mr. Obama said.

Uh? Here are some statistics of the number and percentage of Muslims in various countries:

Indonesia: 207,105,000 (88.2%);

India: 156,254,615 (13.4%);

Turkey: 70,800,000 (99%);

Egypt: 70,530,237 (90%);

WASHINGTON (AP) – The government accidentally posted on the Internet a list of all civilian nuclear sites and their activities in the United States.

The 266-page document was published on May 6 as a transmission from President Barack Obama to the U.S. Congress. According to the document, the list was required by law and will be provided to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Some of the pages are marked “highly confidential safeguards sensitive.”

While there is security at the facilities, the list could presumably be useful for terrorists or anyone else who would like to harm the United States.

The publication of the list was first reported in an online secrecy newsletter Monday.

The document details the location of the nuclear sites and what is being done there.

For instance, there are nuclear reactors at the Westinghouse Electric Company in Pittsburgh, Pa. This facility is currently working on research into what happens when there are accidents with the nuclear reactors. The project started in 2006 and is expected to end in 2012, according to the document.

The document was posted on the Government Printing Office Web site, and has since been removed.

and, that 4.5 million number is wildly disputed. Some say it’s a PR number used by Muslim Americans to increase their political clout. I’ve looked it up a million times and tried to find a credible source for estimates and I can find none. The most conservative estimate is around 1.5 to 2 million muslims in the US.

Daniel Pipes is a very biased source, he says Islam Sucks. But in this link he provides links to other, mostly credible sources.

As a blog reader for years before starting Puma PAC I always preferred the sites where the commenters were smart, funny, and welcoming — not rude, insular, or disgusting.

Things have been fairly sucky the past couple weeks but nothing can diminish the friendships I’ve made here or the inspiration I get from Pumas.

Blears announced she was leaving

It then asks MPs to sign the letter and send it to a particular email address. It will only be “published” once 50 MPs have signed it.

The email was revealed on the day that Communities Secretary Hazel Blears said she was resigning from the Cabinet and the day before the local and European elections.

You can get a blog through TypePad and WordPress as you know, or maybe ask friends to let you piggyback on their site if they have their own domain and server. Most web hosting packages have plenty of space & power for installing a blog, so a friend who already has such a service will probably have extra leeway for letting you add either your own domain or simply a separate sub-directory (aka folder) for holding your blog. Another option is to become a front pager at that friend’s blog. Then it’s all gravy!

Thank you for finding my first post Murphy. It sure brings back memories. That was my very first time blogging. I posted about two times at Hillary’s site, only to ask what PUMApac was and lurked for weeks. I was such a newbie to blogging that I was afraid to jump in for quite awhile. Yes, I never thought I would be pissed off enough to vote for McCain until the drama played out and also Sarah was picked and trashed like Hillary. I ended up voting for McPalin in protest anyway. I also would have voted for the Jackass if he picked Hillary for VP. I took a lot of crap on the blog for it, but as it turned out, he dissed her and it made my vote for McPalin easier.

Funny “coincidence,” I had dinner tonight with Anne from 18 Million Voices, with wine, of course, here in Portland. A mini-reunion of sorts. We discussed at length the travesty in Denver, I went to Powell’s books & bought the book by ex-Goldman Sach’s employee Naomi Prins, and Anne says she has many friends she hopes to be bringing onboard PUMA.

I know many will gush over President Obama’s Cairo speech and I’m likely swimming against the tide of the media and my fellow Democrats and progressives. But reading the transcript, I was struck by two things:

1. Aside from a few platitudes, it is disappointingly weak on human rights and specifically women’s rights.

2. It betrays a naiveté, perhaps feigned, about how the Arab world works.

So let me get this right.
