Evidence of endemic  pro-bama-ganda mounts: During his first two months in office, Bill Clinton benefited from the 27% of news stories about him that were positive or praising in tone. George W. Bush dealt with a press only slightly less enamored of him: 22% of stories about him were positive.

But along comes barack obama and the press cannot CONTROL themselves. Fully 44% of the stories about obama are positive in tone, AND there are twice as many stories about obama’s personal life. We’re not talking about blogs or new media websites. We’re talking about PBS, NBC, The New York Times, Washington Post, etc. Twice as many positive stories and twice as many about his personal life.

Obama has inspired a collective fawning. What started in the campaign (the chief victim was Hillary Clinton, not John McCain) has continued, as a study by the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism shows. It concludes: “President Barack Obama has enjoyed substantially more positive media coverage than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush during their first months in the White House.”

The study examined 1,261 stories by The Post, the New York Times, ABC, CBS and NBC, Newsweek magazine and the “NewsHour” on PBS. Favorable articles (42 percent) were double the unfavorable (20 percent), while the rest were “neutral” or “mixed.” Obama’s treatment contrasts sharply with coverage in the first two months of the Bush (22 percent of stories favorable) and Clinton (27 percent) presidencies.

Unlike George Bush and Bill Clinton, Obama received favorable coverage in both news columns and opinion pages. The nature of stories also changed. “Roughly twice as much of the coverage of Obama (44 percent) has concerned his personal and leadership qualities than was the case for Bush (22 percent) or Clinton (26 percent),” the report said. “Less of the coverage, meanwhile, has focused on his policy agenda.”

When Pew broadened the analysis to 49 outlets — cable channels, news Web sites, morning news shows, more newspapers and National Public Radio — the results were similar, despite some outliers. No surprise: MSNBC was favorable, Fox was not.Another study, released by the Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, reached parallel conclusions.”

In other news, GM’ Bankruptcy filings reveal the giant, failed company is $172 BILLION dollars in debt. Staggering.
And an Air France Airbus 330 crashed off the coast of Brazil, en route to Paris, this morning. All 288 passengers and nine crew members are presumed dead.

This is very, very bad news and we know the printing of money must stop, this too will be an utter shock to the obots! We will all suffer……….

=================================
The next crisis has already begun
We’ve survived a financial meltdown, and we’re working through a recession. But another phase — when all the money printing melts down the dollar — is just getting started.

Memo to Obama attack dog Robert Gibbs: stop pooping on our lawn

Barack Obama, enough Kool-Aid already, Robert Gibbs, slobbering US media bias

Memo to US Press secetary Robert Gibbs

1. Congratulations. Your presidential regime has managed to secure the most supine, slobbering, spineless, unquestioning media coverage since Enver Hoxha’s Albania. A report last month by the Center for Media and Public Affairs said Obama has received more coverage than his two predecessors combined. On ABC, CBS and NBC news the majority of evaluations – 58 per cent – have been favourable. (Compare GW Bush – 33 per cent; Bill Clinton 44 per cent – in first 50 days of office). More importantly, you have Pravda. Yes, no less than 73 per cent of all evaluative comments in your chief propaganda organ – aka The New York Times – have been favourable to Obama.

2. Sure your congenitally libtard Mainstream Media were probably biased that way anyway, but you have played your part. Your combative style – which led you to dismiss the entire British print media just now in one glib, sneering phrase – has earned you the nickname “The Enforcer.” You have a reputation for coming down hard on any media outlet which doesn’t follow your approved version of reality. “I work the referee a little bit,” as you once put it. (A reference, perhaps, to when you played goalkeeper for your college football team).

3. If you are going to make clever-sounding football references displaying your rich understanding of the British press, try to get your terminology right. We call it the “Champions League.” Not the “Champions League cup.”

4. That’s only the beginning of your problems, matey. Your treatment not just of the British media but of Britain generally smacks of a risible ineptitude. First, you let President Obama send back the Winston Churchill bust. Then, you insult our visiting prime minister with a dismally low-key reception (worthy of a minor African head of state, not your closest and most loyal ally) and shoddy gifts (those DVDs). Then you compound the insult by having one of your monkeys declare, Chicago-politics-style, “”There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.” OK so we know Obama’s not much interested in foreign affairs and has a special loathing for Britain because it roughed up his Kenyan granddad during the Mau Mau insurrection. But don’t you realise, that one of your jobs as his press secretary is to make out like he loves us so much even his underpants have a union flag on them?

5. Insulting the British print media. Big mistake. We know we’re not angels. We know we can go over the top sometimes. But unfortunately that’s a much bigger problem for you than it is for us. You see, while a lot of your mainstream media will hold fire on stories which they think may reflect poorly on your wondrous Obamamessiah – what his half-brother has been up to, say – we have fewer qualms about telling it like it is. So far, you’ve had a pretty easy ride. The Obama Kool Aid has proved almost as popular beverage in Britain as it is in the US. But just you wait till we start showing our teeth.

6. A lot of Americans know this. They appreciate our irreverence. They enjoy our frank criticisms of all the myriad areas where Obama is getting it so badly wrong – everything from his disastrous cap and trade measures, to his brutal treatment of Chrysler dealerships which didn’t support him, to his pork barrelling, to his failure to do anything that looks remotely like rescuing the US economy. That’s why they come to read us online: because they can and there’s nothing you can do to stop them.

7. We had a guy just like you over here once. Guy named Alastair Campbell. Did for our now heavily discredited prime minister Tony Blair what you do for Obama: a little light press bullying; professional turd polishing; that kind of thing. We hated Alastair Campbell, really loathed him. But he got away with bullying us because in those days we didn’t know any better. We were still going through this sort of dumb-cattle phase where we still had some vestigial respect for politicians and trust that they knew what they were doing.

8. But we don’t respect politicians any more. Not our politicians, and not yours either. Imagine how this new strain of irreverence bordering on utter contempt is going to affect our reporting of political affairs. Actually, you’ve no need to imagine. Just read some of our Telegraph blogs.

Good morning Murphy,

**** Off topic ****

At the risk of ruffling some fur, I have an important housekeeping question …

Murphy, have the FEC issues in the links below been taken care of? If PUMAs are going to promote honest financial accountably, I think it’s VERY important for this pac to be open and transparent with the FEC records.

Granted, I was pretty broke this past year, so I haven’t donated as much as some, but I have managed to donate about $100 bucks to PUMApac over the past 10 months.

The credibly of this group will be damaged if this kind of stuff isn’t a priority. Just saying.

New Solar Cycle Prediction

According to the forecast, the sun should remain generally calm for at least another year. From a research point of view, that’s good news because solar minimum has proven to be more interesting than anyone imagined. Low solar activity has a profound effect on Earth’s atmosphere, allowing it to cool and contract.

Meanwhile, the sun pays little heed to human committees.

Hi HP Boston,

No one sent me to ask. I make it a habit to research groups that I contribute to so I went to the FEC site here http://www.fec.gov/ and typed in PUMApac for the financial records and I noticed that Murphy hasn’t filed for the last 3 quarters.

I’m not upset over it, I’m just asking her an honest question, … to find out if it was have taken care of it, … because like I said, it’s a important issue for this pac to be seen as tranparent, open and honest. I don’t want my donation back, I’m just asking a valid question.

DancesWithPumas #20,

The last PUMApac quarterly report on the FEC site is July 2008. You can go to the site and check it yourself. I have no agenda here, and there is no need to be secretive with my question and with Murphy’s answer. I would hope that Murphy would agree that she has nothing to hide from us or any lurkers.

Youre having conversations with Pumas that only Murphy can answer. Her reposts contain personal information, of more than just herself.
You’re time may be a coincidence, but suince mountainsong has been sending vile insults continually, and mass emailed false accusations, and theres been a short parade of people over the past two days asking, directly, or indirectly, the same questions: Is Murphy a high ranking member of ACORN, etc. I found your timing suspect. I don’t make it a habit to get involved with the drama on this site, so I have no idea what you are talking about in regards to Mountiansong or any emails.

These FEC reports are made public for a reason, and regardless of any personal information, PUMAs should all be concerned about the quarterly reports. Again, if PUMApac is going to promote transparency, then it needs to be seen as transpartent too, right?

I am not outraged in the least for Eminem (aka Marshall Mathers). He had it coming, MTV set him up for it with the help of a willing Sacha Baron Cohen, and now Marshall’s huge freaking sexist anti-gay Ego and his whole gangsta persona are trashed!!! Anticipating getting their share of the Obama stimulus package, animals that were formerly self-sufficient are already modifying their behavior to take advantage of what they expect to be a new set of societal norms in the next four to eight years.

This black bear from Montana has ceased hunting for a living and is sitting outside the US Fish & Wildlife Service office in Kalispell, apparently waiting to be fed and to have his winter den dug by government employees.

The residents of Kalispell are calling him Bearack Obama.

Obama’s support for the new Graham-Lieberman secrecy law

It was one thing when President Obama reversed himself last month by announcing that he would appeal the Second Circuit’s ruling that the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) compelled disclosure of various photographs of detainee abuse sought by the ACLU. Agree or disagree with Obama’s decision, at least the basic legal framework of transparency was being respected, since Obama’s actions amounted to nothing more than a request that the Supreme Court review whether the mandates of FOIA actually required disclosure in this case. But now — obviously anticipating that the Government is likely to lose in court again (.pdf) — Obama wants Congress to change FOIA by retroactively narrowing its disclosure requirements, prevent a legal ruling by the courts, and vest himself with brand new secrecy powers under the law which, just as a factual matter, not even George Bush sought for himself.

Debunking Sotomayor’s race-based decision making…

Glenn Greenwald

Sotomayor’s dissent in Pappas should end the slurs against her

The accusation that Sonia Sotomayor has – as The New York Times uncritically put it — a “race-based approach to the law” is turning out to be one of the most reality-detached arguments to make it into the mainstream since Saddam’s mushroom clouds. All the relevant evidence — all of it — proves how false that accusation is.

O’Reilly’s campaign against murdered doctor
By Gabriel Winant

May 31, 2009 | When his show airs tomorrow, Bill O’Reilly will most certainly decry the death of Kansas doctor George Tiller, who was killed Sunday while attending church services with his wife. Tiller, O’Reilly will say, was a man who was guilty of barbaric acts, but a civilized society does not resort to lawless murder, even against its worst members. And O’Reilly, we can assume, will genuinely mean this.

But there’s no other person who bears as much responsibility for the characterization of Tiller as a savage on the loose, killing babies willy-nilly thanks to the collusion of would-be sophisticated cultural elites, a bought-and-paid-for governor and scofflaw secular journalists. Tiller’s name first appeared on “The Factor” on Feb. 25, 2005. Since then, O’Reilly and his guest hosts have brought up the doctor on 28 more episodes, including as recently as April 27 of this year. Almost invariably, Tiller is described as “Tiller the Baby Killer.”

The Murder of Dr. Tiller, a Foreshadowing

For those who would like to think today’s murder in church of Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider, is an isolated incident, here’s the horrifying news: You are wrong. The pattern is clear and frightening.

In March 1993, three months into the administration of our first pro-choice president, Bill Clinton, abortion provider Dr. David Gunn was murdered in Pensacola, Florida. That was the beginning of what would become a five-fold increase in violence against abortion providers throughout the Clinton years.

Today’s assassination of Dr. George Tiller comes 5 months into the term of our second pro-choice president. For anyone who would like to believe that this is a statistical anomaly, a coincidence that doesn’t portend anything, again, you are wrong.

The more I learn, the more I despise this evil, manipulative man named Obama…

In an excerpt from his book, Renegade, Daily Beast columnist Richard Wolffe reveals a tarmac showdown with Hillary and an unknown summit with Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

…at Reagan National Airport. Clinton asked to talk to Obama and she apologized to him for comments by her New Hampshire co-chairman. Billy Shaheen had suggested that Republicans would exploit Obama’s self-confessed drug use if he won the nomination. Such comments had no place in her campaign, Clinton assured Obama, and Shaheen would resign. But Obama was not satisfied: he felt it was part of a pattern, which included an email forwarded by a Clinton volunteer in Iowa, suggesting that he was Muslim. Clinton grew agitated, waving her arms and poking her finger at him, as she hurled his own negativity back at him. Wasn’t he the one who just called her disingenuous for saying she couldn’t release her own White House papers? Wasn’t it his donor, David Geffen, who accused her and her husband of lying with ease? Instead of responding with anger, Obama tried to chill his rival, placing a hand on her arm. Clinton recoiled from the gesture, which seemed either patronizing or restraining, or both. Obama boarded his plane with a new sense of wonder. “I never saw that look of concern in her eyes before,” he told his senior aides. “I think we can we can win this one.”

Share June 01, 2009 11:36 AM

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Attendees at this week’s gathering for progressive activists in Washington, the “America’s Future Now” conference, aren’t getting an appearance from President Obama.

But they are hearing from Howard Dean.

As Congress prepares to take up health care reform efforts in earnest, Dr. Dean is reemerging as a major voice inside the Democratic Party — playing an inside-outside game that’s might make him to health care what former Vice President Al Gore is to the environment.

Suddenly, Dean is everywhere, talking up the issue that first animated his presidential candidacy in 2004 (though would later become subsumed by the war in Iraq).

He’s out with a new e-book next week offering his “prescription”

Suspect Identified in Killing of Doctor

JOE STUMPE and MONICA DAVEY
Published: June 1, 2009
WICHITA, Kan. — The suspect in the fatal shooting of one of the nation’s only doctors to perform late-term abortions had professed an anti-government, anti-abortion philosophy in years past, some who knew him said on Monday.

Dr. George Tiller, one of the nation’s few late-term-abortion providers, was killed Sunday in church.

Scott Roeder, 51, of Merriam, Kan., whom authorities have described as a suspect in Sunday’s fatal shooting here of George Tiller, was once a subscriber and occasional contributor to a newsletter, Prayer and Action News, said Dave Leach, an anti-abortion activist from Des Moines who runs the newsletter. Mr. Leach said that he had met Mr. Roeder once, and that Mr. Roeder had described similar views to his own on abortion.

Commenting on Dr. Tiller’s death, Mr. Leach said, “To call this a crime is too simplistic.” He added, “There is Christian scripture that would support this.”

White House Seeks a Proper Invitation for the Queen

According to reports, Queen Elizabeth is decidedly displeased that she was not invited to the commemorations of the D-Day landings. The Obama administration is working with their French counterparts to make sure that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth — reportedly miffed, according to the British Press, at not being invited to the D-Day anniversary festivities in Normandy this weekend — gets a formal invitation.

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said on Monday that President Obama thinks the queen should be present at the event on Saturday. “We are working with those involved to see if we can make that happen,” Mr. Gibbs said.

In Recognition of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month 2009

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of State
Washington, DC
June 1, 2009

Forty years ago this month, the gay rights movement began with the Stonewall riots in New York City, as gays and lesbians demanded an end to the persecution they had long endured. Now, after decades of hard work, the fight has grown into a global movement to achieve a world in which all people live free from violence and fear, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In honor of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month and on behalf of the State Department, I extend our appreciation to the global LGBT community for its courage and determination during the past 40 years, and I offer our support for the significant work that still lies ahead.

At the State Department and throughout the Administration, we are grateful for our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees in Washington and around the world. They and their families make many sacrifices to serve our nation. Their contributions are vital to our efforts to establish stability, prosperity and peace worldwide.

Human rights are at the heart of those efforts. Gays and lesbians in many parts of the world live under constant threat of arrest, violence, even torture. The persecution of gays and lesbians is a violation of human rights and an affront to human decency, and it must end. As Secretary of State, I will advance a comprehensive human rights agenda that includes the elimination of violence and discrimination against people based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Though the road to full equality for LGBT Americans is long, the example set by those fighting for equal rights in the United States gives hope to men and women around the world who yearn for a better future for themselves and their loved ones.

This June, let us recommit ourselves to achieving a world in which all people can live in safety and freedom, no matter who they are or whom they love.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Monday that he does not believe Saddam Hussein was involved in the planning or execution of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney says Saddam Hussein “provided sanctuary … and resources to terrorists.”

He strongly defended the Bush administration’s decision to invade Iraq, however, arguing that Hussein’s previous support for known terrorists was a serious danger after 9/11.

Cheney, in an appearance at the National Press Club, also said he is intent on speaking out in defense of the Bush administration’s national security record because “a clear understanding of policies that worked [in protecting the United States] is essential.”

“I do not believe and have never seen any evidence to confirm that [Hussein] was involved in 9/11. We had that reporting for a while, [but] eventually it turned out not to be true,” Cheney conceded.

But Hussein was “somebody who provided sanctuary and safe harbor and resources to terrorists. … [It] is, without question, a fact.”

Gibbs declines to give cost for Obamas’ NYC trip
From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) – White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Monday would not disclose the total cost of President and Mrs. Obama’s weekend foray to New York City, but said the first couple would have taken a commercial flight to the Big Apple if the Secret Service allowed.

“I think the president, would, could he have, based on the Secret Service, he would have taken the shuttle,” Gibbs said. “But I would say that the costs are proportionate with travel for presidents and I would encourage you to look up previous coverage on travel costs because they are analogous.”

:::snip:::

Republicans have also questioned the cost to tax-payers for the brief excursion — which included three Gulfstream-size planes to transport the presidet’s security detail, staff, and White House reporters.

“If President Obama wants to go to the theater, isn’t the presidential box at the Kennedy Center good enough?” RNC Press Secretary Gail Gitcho said Saturday.

At least the French are inviting us to the celebration this time. My husband (then boyfriend) and I just happened to be in Paris in August of 1985 (we had just taken the Bar Exam and were traveling around). There was a big celebration for the Liberation of Paris, but we noticed that all the flags and military parades were 100% French. I remember looking at my husband and noting that it was great to celebrate the French liberating themselves.

CNN) — Nevada is legalizing domestic partnerships, with the state Assembly voting Sunday evening to override a veto by the governor, officials said.

The decision by the Nevada Legislature follows a tumultuous week for proponents of same-sex marriage.

The Assembly voted 28-14 to override Gov. Jim Gibbons’ veto of a domestic partner bill, said Kathy Alden of the chief clerk’s office.

With the vote, Nevada will extend most of the rights given to married couples to couples in domestic partnerships, including those of the same sex.

Oblahblah’s Statement –

From the White House:
LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2009

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.

LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society. There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in all professional fields, including the arts and business communities. LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic and have played a vital role in broadening this country’s response to the HIV pandemic.

Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their lives openly today than ever before. I am proud to be the first President to appoint openly LGBT candidates to Senate-confirmed positions in the first 100 days of an Administration. These individuals embody the best qualities we seek in public servants, and across my Administration — in both the White House and the Federal agencies — openly LGBT employees are doing their jobs with distinction and professionalism.

The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect.

My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to advance a wide range of initiatives. At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans. These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security. We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the United States.

These issues affect not only the LGBT community, but also our entire Nation. As long as the promise of equality for all remains unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every American will benefit. During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists….

Sincerely, Homofauxbama

Will Maryland recognize gay marriages?
By 365gay Newswire
06.01.2009 6:00pm EDT

Maryland’s attorney general is deciding whether gay marriages performed in other states will be legally recognized by his state, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler is a Democrat and a strong advocate for equal marriage. Maryland defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but it also has a “longstanding tradition” of recognizing marriages performed in other states, the Sun said.

While Gov. Martin O’Malley and the General Assembly have extended a number of rights and benefits to gay and lesbian couples, they have stopped short of endorsing same-sex unions, the Sun said.

Gay marriage debate complicates SF mayor’s future
By The Associated Press
06.01.2009 9:08am EDT

(Sacramento) San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has been linked to gay marriage ever since he directed city clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in 2004. Now he’s running for governor and trying to broaden his appeal, but fate appears to be working against him.

The state Supreme Court’s decision to uphold California’s constitutional ban on gay marriage – and the prospect that an impassioned initiative to overturn it could share the ballot with next year’s governor’s race – holds consequences for candidates from both parties, but especially for the one most deeply associated with the issue.

The intensity of a statewide vote on same-sex marriage could make it difficult for Newsom to connect with centrist voters, millions of whom voted no on the issue last year.

Did anyone check today on the Andy Martin new conference on Sonia Sotomayer. It was certainly not what I expected. In fact it might be good for her to get this out in public if it is true. I do not see this as a big problem today. There is suppose to be another report tomorrow. Anyway for completeness here is today’s report. If this report is true it might provide a good discussion here on PUMA.

http://contrariancommentary.blogspot.com/

MARTIN SAYS SOTOMAYOR MAY HAVE ENGAGED IN A “SHAM” MARRIAGE AND OTHER ACTIONS TO CONCEAL HER SEXUAL IDENTITY

IS A VOTE FOR SOTOMAYOR A VOTE TO APPROVE GAY MARRIAGE AT THE U. S. SUPREME COURT?

MARTIN SUGGESTS SOTOMAYOR IS A “DEEPLY-CLOSETED” LESBIAN OR, POSSIBLY, A “COUGAR-STYLE” SEXUAL PREDATOR

SONIA SOTOMAYOR HEADS TOWARDS AN “ADVISE AND CONSENT” MOMENT

Sotomayor’s “boy toys” could be evidence of inability to function in a normal male-female environment or, once again, “beards” designed to conceal her deeply-closeted sexuality.

Whether Sotomayor is deeply-closeted, a factor that may be explained by the fact her legal career began in an era when lesbianism was potentially disqualifying behavior and therefore deeply repressed and suppressed, or whether she is a frustrated “cougar” whose predatory “boy toy” sexuality takes more from a skit on Saturday Night Live than what is expected of a U. S. (Second) Circuit Judge, or a Supreme Court justice, remains to be finally proven.

Either alternative raises serous questions about Sotomayor’s character and personal behavior that need to be fully explored by the United States Senate.

For example, both supporters and opponents of gay marriage have a right to know whether Sotomayor’s secret life reflects a disqualifying bias on that controversial issue.

Our investigation is continuing. We invite responses from persons having knowledge of Sotomayor’s “secret life.”

She Plays With Boys, and Rivals Don’t Like It

In the last two years, Hannah Berner has used a rare combination of power and precision to win nearly every high school tennis match she has played. On Sunday, she played her final match for the Beacon High School team, a run made all the more remarkable by the fact that she was competing against boys.

At Beacon, a small magnet school on the Upper West Side where Ms. Berner is the team’s third-ranked singles player, there is no girls’ tennis program. “Not having a girls’ team, this is where you play,” said Bayard Faithful, the team’s coach.

snip
After Ms. Berner won one recent game, the coach of the opposing team complained that she should not have been allowed to play with the boys because her gender unnerved her opponents.

This article by Pravda “American capitalism gone with a Whimper” doesn’t surprise me a bit. I live in an area highly populated with refugees from the former Soviet Union. Many of them came out in support of Hillary Clinton then and or for John McCain. They all seemed to have one thing in common; they recognized Obama as a Marxist. This artical is chilling. I thought that the 5th paragraph described Obama’s former church to a tee.

She Plays With Boys, and Rivals Don’t Like It

Chris Lacopo, who coaches the Horace Mann team, which lost to Beacon in the semifinals, offered a different assessment. “It’s great for a boy to deal with a really good girl player,” Mr. Lacopo said. “In order to play her, you just have to say she’s just a tennis player. She’s not a girl, just an opponent who’s going to be hitting the ball back.”

Ms. Berner’s days of playing with the boys may be over. On Monday, she resumes against female competition as the top-seeded girl playing in the individual — as opposed to team — Mayor’s Cup tournament. She will join the University of Wisconsin women’s tennis team in the fall.

I have been searching for days for info on swine flu, found this:
snip
Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC’s interim deputy director for science and public health program, said last week that the newly identified H1N1 swine flu virus continues to behave much like seasonal H1N1 viruses, which may partly explain why this flu strain affects more younger people. “Seasonal H1N1 often causes more disease in younger people, compared with the other strains that can be more common in older people,” she said.

Some older people may have partial immunity to the H1N1 swine flu virus because of possible exposure to another H1N1 flu strain that circulated prior to 1957.

‘Out of Context’
By Thomas Sowell

In Washington, the clearer a statement is, the more certain it is to be followed by a “clarification” when people realize what was said.

The clearly racist comments made by Judge Sonia Sotomayor on the Berkeley campus in 2001 have forced the spinmasters to resort to their last-ditch excuse, that it was “taken out of context.”

If that line is used during Judge Sotomayor’s Senate confirmation hearings, someone should ask her to explain just what those words mean when taken in context.

What could such statements possibly mean– in any context– other than the new and fashionable racism of our time, rather than the old-fashioned racism of earlier times? Racism has never done this country any good, and it needs to be fought against, not put under new management for different groups.

Looked at in the context of Judge Sotomayor’s voting to dismiss the appeal of white firefighters who were denied the promotions they had earned by passing an exam, because not enough minorities passed that exam to create “diversity,” her words in Berkeley seem to match her actions on the judicial bench in the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals all too well.

The Supreme Court of the United States thought that case was important enough to hear it, even though the three-judge panel on which Judge Sotomayor served gave it short shrift in less than a page. Apparently the famous “empathy” that President Obama says a judge should have does not apply to white males in Judge Sotomayor’s court.

The very idea that a judge’s “life experiences” should influence judicial decisions is as absurd as it is dangerous.

It is dangerous because citizens are supposed to obey the law, which means they must know what the law is in advance– and nobody can know in advance what the “life experiences” of whatever judge they might appear before will happen to be.

It is absurd because it flies in the face of the facts. It was a fellow Puerto Rican judge on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals– Jose Cabranes– who rebuked his judicial colleagues for the cavalier way they dismissed the white firefighters’ case.

On the Supreme Court, the justice whose life story is most like that of Sonia Sotomayor– Clarence Thomas– has a very different judicial philosophy from hers.

The clever people in the media and elsewhere are saying that “inevitably” one’s background influences how one feels about issues. Even if that were true, judges are not supposed to decide cases based on their personal feelings.

Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said that he “loathed” many of the people in whose favor he voted on the Supreme Court. Obviously, he had feelings. But he also had the good sense and integrity to rule on the basis of the law, not his feelings.

Laws are made for the benefit of the citizens, not for the self-indulgences of judges. Making excuses for such self-indulgences and calling them “inevitable” is part of the cleverness that has eroded the rule of law and undermined respect for the law.

Something else is said to be “inevitable” by the clever people. That is the confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. But it was only a year and a half ago that Hillary Clinton’s winning the Democratic Party’s nomination for president was considered “inevitable.”

The Republicans certainly do not have the votes to stop Judge Sotomayor from being confirmed– if all the Democrats vote for her. But that depends on what the people say. It looked like a done deal a couple of years ago when an amnesty bill for illegal aliens was sailing through the Senate with bipartisan support. But public outrage brought that political steamroller to a screeching halt.

Nothing is inevitable in a democracy unless the public lets the political spinmasters and media talking heads lead them around by the nose.

The real question is whether the Republican Senators have the guts to alert the public to the dangers of putting this kind of judge on the highest court in the land, so that they will at least have some chance of stopping the next one that comes along.

It would be considered a disgrace if an umpire in a baseball game let his “empathy” determine whether a pitch was called a ball or strike. Surely we should accept nothing less from a judge.

MAblue at TC had a pic of a scantily clad young girl at the top of his *breakfast read* post this morning.

The picture has now been removed and replaced with a black and white of a newsboy.

His comment, which said that he would remove the pic of the girl if anyone found it offensive, has also been removed.
(Why, if he even thought it would be offensive to readers, did he put it there in the first place??)

A few days ago, in the same *breakfast read* column, he referred to someone as a “whining little bitch.”
When a female commenter objected he amended the post and belittled her for being offended.
He was later forced to remove both the amended phrase and the attack on the commenter.

I will continue to boycott this offensive crap.

FU MAblue.

In part, don’t life experiences form our political, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, perspectives? Aren’t they part of what makes one chose one political position / party over others? If not, why would presidents chose one candidate over another as a nominee for SCJ? Couldn’t they just select a high;y qualified candidate out of a hat instead?

Andy Martin’s positions are not interesting in the least. The anti-semitic is focusing on the sensationalism of of “lesbianism”. (BFD). Instead of invading Sonia Sotomayor’s privacy via her sexual proclivities / orientation, maybe he should direct his energies toward lesbians/ gay equality.
Then, sexual preference/orientation wouldn’t be a potentially disqualifying factor.

Funny how they use their best fantasies as ammunition for their attacks.

Whether it’s through email or blog, my question still remains unanswered. Btw, when did it become taboo to ask Murphy a question about this site on the open blog?

Obama’s Rattner loots GM pension fund to pay off banksters
Tue, 06/02/2009 – 7:48am — lambert
I’m shocked. Greg Palast:

Here’s the scheme: Rattner is demanding the bankruptcy court simply wipe away the money GM owes workers for their retirement health insurance. Cash in the insurance fund would be replaced by GM stock. The percentage may be 17% of GM’s stock – or 25%. Whatever, 17% or 25% is worth, well … just try paying for your dialysis with 50 shares of bankrupt auto stock.

Yet Citibank and Morgan, says Rattner, should get their whole enchilada – $6 billion right now and in cash – from a company that can’t pay for auto parts or worker eye exams.

So what’s wrong with seizing workers’ pension fund money in a bankruptcy? The answer, Mr. Obama, Mr. Law Professor, is that it’s illegal.

Obama to Israel: ‘Part of Being a Good Friend Is Being Honest’
Political Punch: Obama explains his tough-love approach with ally Israel.

In an interview that aired last night and this morning, President Obama told NPR that in terms of the U.S. relationship with Israel, “part of being a good friend is being honest. And I think there have been times where we are not as honest as we should be about the fact that the current direction, the current trajectory in the region, is profoundly negative – not only for Israeli interests but also U.S. interests. And that’s part of a new dialogue that I’d like to see encouraged in the region.”

Later today the president will fly to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he will

White House frames health care as economic problem

WASHINGTON – Fixing the economy requires overhauling the U.S. health care system, a White House report concludes — just the message the administration needs to help implement a sweeping new social welfare program during a recession.

The report by the White House Council of Economic Advisers says that health care costs — now about 18 percent of the gross domestic product — will rise to 34 percent in 30 years if left unchecked, wreaking havoc on the federal deficit, businesses and working Americans.

“Health care reform is incredibly important not just for the American people but for the American economy,” said Christina Romer, chairwoman of the Council of Economic Advisers. “Good health care reform is essentially good economic policy.”

Critics were quick to dismiss the report.

“Everyone agrees that reducing the cost of health care would benefit our economy, but the administration hasn’t offered a credible plan to do so without raising taxes or rationing care,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

a very interesting commentary on Sotomayor, identity politics, and ethnicity here

Sotomayor and Scalia: A Brief History of Whiteness

I see several bloggers today pointing out the hypocrisy of conservative politicians and pundits accusing Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor of promoting identity politics while themselves assuming “white male” to be the neutral baseline from which all other identity groups diverge.

In particular, several observers have compared the reaction to Sotomayor’s Puerto Rican identity with the treatment of Scalia and Alito’s Italian heritage.

For more than ten years, advocates have been urging the federal government to expand hate crimes laws to include protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Ten years is long enough to wait.

- More likely to become young mothers.
- More likely to drop out of school
- Twice as likely to suffer domestic violence

Actually, the link is to change.org – the subdomain is for immigration action.

I happen to not support amnesty for illegal immigrants, but that is actually not relevant.

I posted the article because it reminds us to be aware of possible preconcieved notions around “identity politics” … identity compared to what?
