Taggles at Widdershins had an excellent account of yesterday’s “round table discussion” of health care reform at the Senate Finance Committee’s meeting. Today she has a great follow-up. Basically, her take on the whole infuriating farce is, WTF!?!?

WTF indeed, Taggles.

Watch as the pompous, clueless, and criminally condescending members of the Finance Committee (Democrats AND Republicans) make it painfully obvious that not only do they not give a flying FIG what real, live American citizens want them to do, they have lost ALL sense of WHY they were elected and WHOM they were elected to serve:

The heckler protesters who interrupted the Lords of the Senate were doctors who are outraged that single-payer advocates were not given even ONE seat at the so-called Round Table to discuss reforming our health care system.

Now, there are MANY views and interests and complexities to consider when discussing health care reform in our country. Candidate Hillary Clinton’s plan was NOT single payer, and lord knows there are cogent arguments as to why single payer may not be a perfect panacea. There is also some merit to the argument that it is quixotic to fight for single payer, universal health coverage since it is inconceivable that the current congress would pass it. Political realism and all that. But most agree that Clinton’s health care plan was the strongest one going and the one most likely to lead to real universal health coverage sooner rather than later.

So, I agree that the issue of health care reform, like immigration reform, is NOT simple. Neither of the ideological wings of the major parties has the RIGHT and EXCLUSIVE solution. But I ask you this: Do YOU trust the members of Congress to have an open discussion about reform, in which ALL of the possible options are considered and discussed? In which ALL of the major stakeholders have a seat at the table and a voice in the discussion?

What kind of a democracy are we living in when the ONE group that should be considered the PRIMARY stakeholder, the American PEOPLE, is not even allowed a seat at the table? Poll after poll shows that the majority of American citizens favor some sort of single-payer, public option health coverage. Small business owners want it. Families want it. Sick people who have been dropped from their insurance companies’ rolls want it. Grown children who are caring for parents who became ill before they reached the Medicare age want it. MILLIONS and MILLIONS of Americans want real, universal, affordable health coverage.

WHY does this Senate Finance Committee so smugly dismiss our concerns, our interests, and our voices?

Here’s some political realism for you: Because they have been bought and paid for by the for-profit industries that make BILLIONS of DOLLARS a year milking money from American citizens.

MEMBERS OF THE SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE WHOSE TOP DONORS ARE THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY

Add it up Girls and Boys. That’s $10.7 MILLION dollars paid DIRECTLY to eleven members of the Senate Finance Committee by the for-profit health care industry. Of the 23 members of the committee, fully HALF of them receive the lion’s share of their reelection camapign funds from corporations whose WORST FEAR is that any form of single-payer, public option health coverage is enacted in the United States.

Oh, and that $10.7 million was paid in just the latest election cycle ALONE. Over the course of their senate careers these jokers have received hundreds of millions of dollars from profit-seeking health industry firms. The list also does not include the millions that are funneled into the Senators’ campaign bank accounts by lobbying firms. It also does not include the millions of dollars donated to Senators on the committee like John Kerry, Jay Rockefeller, and John Cornyn. Those players are not included on the list because they happen to be more in the pocket of industries like oil and gas, real estate developers, and the banking industry. But they got big bucks from the health industry as well.

To: Senate Finance Committee

NO MORE PAY TO PLAY POLITICS!

Why are there no advocates for Single Payer or Universal Health Care included in your discussions of health care reform?

Could it be that the Finance Committee of the United States Senate is a Pay to Play system just like Rod Blagojevich’s Illinois?

That’s $10.7 MILLION dollars paid DIRECTLY to eleven members of the Senate Finance Committee by the for-profit health care industry in just the last election cycle alone.

No more Pay to Play in the U.S. Senate! Real Health Care Reform NOW!

I like the idea of Obama’s top ten lies, but it’s tricky…because some of the “lies” were false beliefs that only in the demented imaginations of his followers…ie, that he was “antiwar.”

We should therefor also consider having a “myth-busting” list.

A personal message to my friends and family in Florida-please pass this on:
______________________________________________________

Dear Friends,

Can you spare just a moment?

There’s a woman running for office in your state-her name is Mimi Planas.

Mimi is running for Miami Dade County Commissioner, District 10.

I know that’s not your district-but please keep reading!

Mimi’s opponent has held this office since 1993-he is currently serving his 5th term!
It’s time for a change.

Click here for more info on the issues that are dear to Ms. Planas-and please note her “Open Door” policy, which will make her accessible to all constituents. How refreshing is that?

http://www.mimiplanas2010.com/Key_Issues.php

Let’s help this bright and qualified woman get elected.
We need more women like Mimi in all levels of government.

You can help by getting the word out.
Please forward this email to your friends and family.

Mimi’s opponent plans to win by outspending her.
We can’t let that happen.

Please help if you can. Click here to make a donation to Mimi’s campaign.

http://www.mimiplanas2010.com/

All amounts are welcomed and will be used for advertising and other campaign costs.

In addition, a campaign fundraiser will be held at La Carretta restaurant in Miami on June 2.
Stop in and meet Mimi if you’re in the area. You’ll be glad you did.

Let’s take back our government, one office at a time.

Thanks to all.

Liar, Liar!!!

Freedom of Choice Act is far from passage

Updated: Monday, May 4th, 2009 | By Angie Drobnic Holan

At a press conference marking his first 100 days in office, President Obama answered a question about the Freedom of Choice Act, a law that affirms abortion rights.

“As a candidate, you vowed that one of the very first things you wanted to do was sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” the reporter said. “Do you still hope that Congress quickly sends you the Freedom of Choice Act so you can sign it?”

Obama reiterated his support of abortion rights as well as his sympathy for those who oppose it.

“Now, the Freedom of Choice Act is not my highest legislative priority,” Obama concluded. “I believe that women should have the right to choose, but I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on. And that’s where I’m going to focus.”

Our research indicates that the Freedom of Choice Act has not been introduced in the current Congress.

The Pay for Play U.S. Senate
by murphy on May 6, 2009
What kind of a democracy are we living in when the ONE group that should be considered the PRIMARY stakeholder, the American PEOPLE, is not even allowed a seat at the table?
—————————————————————-
I think we are living under the start of what history will label “Obamaism.” Different writers, analysts, and bloggers compare BO to various governmental styles such as oligarchy, fasism, socialism, etc. I see BO taking the worst of collectivism, communism, democracy, despotism, facism, machiavellianism, marxism, oligarchy, and socialism. Our republic is being turned into a country with an “Obamaism” form of government. I expect to see him listed, in the future, with Karl Marx and Niccolo Machiavelli; another leader who created such upheaval that their leadership style is named after them.

A reading of the Declaration of Independence right now, thinking of BO instead of the King of Great Britain shows how history is repeating itself.

Hellllooo – We survived NY !! Its good to be back. It was a good trip overall – hard work but not as stressful as I had imagined. In fact we set up and took down the show in less time than we normally did. IT was a relief.

Saw very little sign of swine concern , just two people with masks at the hotel and one at the airport. Had a customer from Mexico city – I kept my distance when speaking to her. A buyer from UK said she wasn’t too concerned, life goes on, there’s just too many scares in the world to live in fear… So that was the report from NY. A few people thought about not coming to a crowded trade show but decided to do it anyway. So perhaps there was a lot of hype afterall.

Too bad there isn’t a way to make this thing link to all our prowl emails, like all the superdelegates that were bought by the Jackass away from supporting Hillary, or to the entire congress, to the entire news media online, etc.
That way we could prowl all day long and fill up their email boxes until they exploded. PUMAspam.

Does it send the whole blog page or can we highlight?

if you click on the little green “Share This” icon in the left sidebar, just above Mimi’s bumpersticker, you’ll be sending a link to the whole blog or main page, ie http://www.pumapac.org.

If you click on the little green “Share This” icon at the bottom of each post or prowl then you’ll be sending a link for that particular post or prowl.

oops, forgot to remind everyone to read Cinie today:

“There are many reasons I didn’t want Barack Obama to win the Democratic nomination for president last year, other than the fact that he’s a lying, cheating, race-baiting, race-traitorous, unqualified, inexperienced, corporate shill, whose only reason for running was to be a front man for the Money Mafia. However, the main reason is that it was patently clear from the beginning that if he were to be elected, the closest we would get to comprehensive health care reform would be a long-winded, TelePrompTer read, apologetic, “what a good boy am I,” insurance company-favoring, less-than-nothing, “compromise was the very best we could do” speech about why we won’t get it. There was only one candidate in the entire field who was likely to fight for true health care for all, and that’s exactly why she’s not president right now.”

Welcome home Freddie, I missed you and glad the trip was better than you expected.
The Swine Flu is not as dangerous in the US as it was in Mexico.
No idea what the cause for this is or if the flu returns – will it mutate into something stronger or die out.

No one knows yet.

NYT: OBAMA UNDER ‘INCREASING PRESSURE TO ENGAGE’ ON GAY ISSUES
Wed May 06 2009 18:36:06 ET

President Obama was noticeably silent last month when the Iowa Supreme Court overturned the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

But the days when the president can keep quiet on an issue that gays view as central to their civil rights may soon be coming to an end, the NY TIMES is set to Page One on Thursday, newsroom sources tell DRUDGE.

“Just four weeks after the Iowa ruling, Obama — who opposes gay marriage but campaigned as a self-described ‘fierce advocate’ of gay rights — is under increasing pressure to engage on a variety of gay issues that are coming to the fore amid a dizzying pace of social, political and legislative change,’ reports the paper’s Sheryl Gay Stolberg.

Gack….

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) – Sukaina al-Zayer is an unlikely beauty queen hopeful. She covers her face and body in black robes and an Islamic veil, so no one can tell what she looks like. She also admits she’s a little on the plump side.

But at Saudi Arabia’s only beauty pageant, the judges don’t care about a perfect figure or face. What they’re looking for in the quest for “Miss Beautiful Morals” is the contestant who shows the most devotion and respect for her parents.

Most devotion to keeping her body covered in black from head to toe so the pervs in her country, commonly known as ‘men’ won’t reach out and grab, rape, stone or behead her.

Islam sucks on it’s own lack of morals.
