Billie Jo and Zee started an excellent conversation overnight about Puma PAC plans for the summer. A protest bus tour was brought up as well as some other great ideas. I’m planning on a Washington D.C. protest over the May 31st weekend and want to plan something for Independence Day as well. Let’s think out loud this weekend and let our minds run wild with possibilities.
Keep in mind that pulling off a small protest (like the Burqua protest in D.C. in May) will cost a minimum of $5,000. Bigger events, like a multi-city bus tour will be more like $50,000. We CAN do that with enough participation and enthusiasm, but it is something to bear in mind.
I know that the Tea Party protests have rubbed a lot of Pumas the wrong way because the organizing and behind the scenes work was paid for by right wing groups. I don’t deny that and I share the frustration. I support the PEOPLE who are fed up and protesting but I’ll never support Richard Mellon Scaife. The only way around this however, unless we are content to merely object rather than participate, is to raise our OWN money, to do our OWN behind the scenes organizing work.
We certainly CAN do it — we did it for Denver and our story was told all around the world. The question is, who wants to do it again?
(I certainly do, do you?)
