Ronald Reagan had “Trickle Down.” George H.W. Bush had “Voodoo.” And now comes obama with his very own, personalized flavor of flam-flam financial theory: Mirage Economics. Yep, that’s right — if you HOPE for it hard enough, you’ll be able to see a “faint glimmer” waaaay off in the distance. Leave it to the guy who campaigned with a straight face and a strategy so abundantly empty of substance that it must have been helium he was pushing on his followers — it made them so HAPPY and lightheaded and silly. What a bunch of chimpmunks.
The Tea Parties being held nationwide seem to be attracting Americans from a WIDE spectrum of political ideologies — Republicans, certainly, but also Independents, Libertarians, moderate Dems, and Pumas — not to mention a smattering of obama Democrats who can’t take it anymore (Welcome back!). While the organizers and financial backers of these protests may have right-wing agendas, I find it hard to believe that most of those showing up share those views. Krugman and the rest of the commentariat is WRONG — it’s not like people join focus groups or fill out detailed questionnaires about their precise political positions on fifty different issues before they show up at a protest or rally. For hard-core organizers we can know what the agenda is (because they TELL us upfront, der). But who’s to say WHY that middle aged dude or that college student showed up? Curiosity? Spontanaeity? Just passing by? The truth is, whether or not the mainstream media or SCFP choose to report it, if tens of thousands of Americans show up to protest today it will be because of popular DISGUST with government in general and the policies of obama in particular. Whether it’s primarily a tax protest or a budget deficit protest will be splitting hairs. Not that the BOIZ won’t split hairs, of course, being as how they have the mental subtlety of chimpanzees, splitting hairs and picking nits is WHAT THEY DO BEST! (well, maybe not BEST. Being jackasses is what they do best.)
If you’re going to a Tea Party, let us know — desrcibe your sign, take pics and send them to actioncenter@pumapac.org!

I’m a little late replying to KerryLINY’s question about what people (or Pumas) are protesting today. To boil it down to it’s simplest essence, it’s a protest by taxpayers against the government using our tax money to pay for all the bailouts, as well as the other wasteful and corrupt programs they pass.

Matt Lauer ‘Worried’ Government Won’t Be Able to Dictate to Business Any More
The announcement that Goldman-Sachs may be able to pay back its bailout loan, sooner rather than later, was met with a grim assessment by NBC’s Matt Lauer, on Tuesday’s “Today” show as the co-anchor fretted to the Obama administration’s Christina Romer: “I’m worried if you think if that’s a good thing. Are they doing this because of financial stability or might they be talking about that, simply to get out from under the thumb of the federal government and be allowed to go back to running the business the way they want to run it as opposed to the way the government wants them to run it?”

WHAT WOULD BE A PARTY WITHOUT PARTY POOPERS?
As anti-tax protesters organize tea parties across the country on April 15, rumors are swirling that a backlash is brewing.
Some believe ACORN, which has been under scrutiny for accusations of voter fraud, is preparing to crash some of the tea parties. But ACORN says it is only helping to organize dozens of rallies on the same day in support of President Obama’s first budget.
“This is the first we’ve heard of these so-called ‘tea parties.’ And, frankly, a bunch of small get-togethers by fringe conservative activists dedicated to simply saying ‘no’ is of little interest to us,” said ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring.
He did not say where the pro-Obama rallies would take place, leaving open the possibility that they may clash with some tea parties.
Tea party organizers, meanwhile, say they’re not worried at all about possible disruption.
“If ACORN wants to send some of their paid, pretend activists to show up, that’s fine,” John O’Hara, who is holding a tea party in Chicago, told FOX News. “They don’t have a message that resonates with the American people or resonates with this broad coalition that’s upset with the spending that’s going on in Washington.”

Kick ass post murphy. But, not to brag, but I’ve been saying this for 2 fucking years–the emperor is BARE ASS NAKED and no matter how hard they try to tell me his dick isn’t a toothpick I keep telling them I am looking at it right fucking now.
Oh, and I want to restate something that got little play because I posted it so late. I am VERY not okay with the treatment of Ziegler and his movie. Remember this, and think about it and maybe even TALK about it–No fucking leftist, no fucking liberals, no super duper fucking democrats made a movie about sexism in the last election. THINK ABOUT IT!! I am really pissed off that we made an enemy of this man when he might have been an ally. I would sleep with George Bush TWICE if it meant we could have NBC for one hour to speak PUMA. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE. No one is going to be perfect–even pumas have issues–but we did not have to vote for this man we just had to use him and his movie to promote the sad fact that a woman won the presidential election and the fucking democrats and leftist idiots stole it from her. and us. THINK ABOUT IT.
Oh, and something else I want to talk about. The Tea Party’s ROCK. Some pumas whom I love dearly need to OPEN THEIR EYES and think about the fact that the majority of people in attendance at these social uprisings DO NOT LIKE OBAMA. We need these people if we want to make a difference. Fuck democrats, fuck republicans, I want people who are ready for something new. I want people angry enough to take a sick day to tell the govt. to fuck off.
And finally, even though perhaps I have not discussed the underpinnings for this statement enough for it to get any real play, I am going to succinctly state that conservatives hurt women less than liberals. Liberals have brought us–and protect these things with money, the ACLU, and the media–pornography, cultural sensitivity (i.e. excusing things like genital mutilation, selling women and children, sexual slavery, etc., etc.), laws that protect rapists, pedophiles, internet freaks (rapists, pedophiles), etc., etc. Sure conservatives ARE NOT GREAT, but when you add the lists up I will take a conservative over a liberal any day. That being said, they can both go to hell if they are not helping me, but Ziegler was helping…..

Oink! Group Calls Out Top Congressional Porkers
Lawmakers asked for nearly $20 billion in earmarks or “pork-barrel projects” in their homes states in 2009, a nearly 15 percent increase in funding from last year, according to a prominent taxpayer interest group.
“Despite repeated claims by members of Congress that earmarks have been reduced, the Pig Book belies that claim,” said CAGW President Tom Schatz, who noted that this year’s spending bill also included 221 anonymous earmarks amounting to $7.8 billion of the spending that no lawmakers took credit for.
The book highlights a number of “egregious” projects, including $1.8 million for swine odor and manure management in Ames, Iowa, $3.8 million for the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy in Detroit, $1.9 million for a water taxi service in Connecticut and $380,000 for a fairgrounds area in Kotzebue, Alaska.
Schatz said the group released the book one day ahead of April 15 IRS deadline to ensure Americans were cognizant of where their tax dollars are being spent.
While GOP leaders have hammered Democratic bills this year for allowing too much wasteful spending and earmarks, CAGW found that House and Senate Republicans account for about 40 percent of the earmark requests.

Not to be a fear monger, but be safe, all. If the Right pundits agenda is to use the scare tactic of “socialism” and the Left pundit counter is “racism”, that’s a pressure cooker. Again not to be a fear monger at all, but stay away from the instigating freaks.
“With fringe elements, irresponsible pundits, buzz word baiting (e.g. ‘racism’ and ‘socialism’) and an economy that increasingly threatens social stability, civil debate can turn ugly on a dime.”

America Celebrates Tax Freedom Day®
America Will Work 8 Days Less to Pay Taxes in 2009 than in 2008; Recession, Stimulus Package Push Date of Celebration Up
Washington, DC, March 31, 2009 – Tax Freedom Day will arrive on April 13 this year, according to the Tax Foundation’s annual calculation using the latest government data on income and taxes.
This is eight days earlier than in 2008, and a full two weeks earlier than in 2007, for two reasons: (1) the recession has reduced tax collections even faster than it has reduced income, and (2) the stimulus package includes large temporary tax cuts for 2009 and 2010.
Nevertheless, Americans will pay more in taxes than they will spend on food, clothing and housing combined.

OT
My epiphany.
Monday night, MKfromLA drove down to spend the night at my house in order to drive me to the hospital by 8AM, on Tuesday.
MamaPuma called me at 6:45 AM on Tuesday to wish me well.
At the hospital, I gave MK power of attorney. (Do Not Resusitate: I’ve had enough. Or, at least not for the next 4 years.
)
When I wennt into curtained pre-op room to strip down and get into the double layered hospital gown, the first thing I noticed was the gown had a black paw print logo printed on it!
Next, the booties… many pairs of black paw prints all over them! Wow! Pumas are here with me, I thought.
Then the pre-op nurse came in and I couldn’t focus on whatever it was she was saying because… she sounded EXACTLY (and I mean EXACTLY) like MamaPuma!!
“Boston, right?” “Yep!” MK came in to say ‘good-bye” (standard hospital procedure), and said the same thing to my nurse… “You sound EXACTLY like a friend of ours in Boston!!)
I was surrounded by the support and protection of Pumas!!!
Between the blog, email well wishes, phone calls, snail mail cards, the offer by Freddie to come by and assist, Casper’s offer of chciken soup, and the generous, considerate, loving care of MKfromLA (the earthly embodiment of Hanuman), and PumaBear… I’ve been moved beyond words.
I know Puma PAC is a family, but my epiphany arrived with the realization that PumaPAC IS MY family, and I mean that in the most profound sense of the word.
Thank you.
PS Surgery was a piece of cake. Feel a little bruised, but that’s it.
What this surgery took from me is nothing compared to the gifts it has given to me.
I hope I haven’t said too much, and I hope I have said enough to convey the sincerity of my sentiment.

Okay, BURGER KING SUCKS….after their DISGUSTING ad about women drooling over minideadcowsonbread they pull an ad because it offended Mexicans showing a man supposed to be Mexican who was ‘short and fat.’ Well HOT DAMN go to http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090415/od_nm/us_burgerking_odd to read more on this bullshit.
So, it is okay for Mexicans to complain about being used in advertising, but women have to put up with not only that but some ‘typecasting’ to say the least in porn. OHMYGOD when will the hypocrisy ever end and WHEN will women stop eating fast food. I say let’s dump rotting meat by the truckloads at every Burger King in America with a sign that says “real women don’t eat shit”

“mirage economics”?
More like trickle up poverty/misery. Here is another example of democrat stupidity when it comes to business and taxation. Even their hero JKF knew that lower taxation increased revenue across the board.
But these clowns just want the misery and the power it will bring them.
This Tax is for You
Today is the dreaded April 15, but at least in Oregon it’s even going to cost you more to drown in your tax sorrows. In their sober unwisdom, the state’s pols plan to raise taxes by 1,900% on . . . beer. The tax would catapult to $52.21 from $2.60 a barrel. The money is intended to reduce Oregon’s $3 billion budget deficit and, ostensibly, to pay for drug treatment.
If it passes, Oregon will overnight become the most taxing state for suds, one-third higher than the next highest beer tax state, Alaska. The state may do this even though Oregon is the second largest microbrewery producer in the U.S. The beer industry and its 96 breweries contribute 5,000 jobs and $2.25 billion to state GDP. Kurt Widmer of Widmer Brewing Co. says the tax would “devastate our company and small breweries throughout the state.” Adds Joe Henchman, director of state projects at the Tax Foundation, “This microbrewery industry has gravitated to Oregon in part due to low beer taxes.”
For Oregon to enact punitive taxes on its homegrown beer industry makes as much sense as Idaho slapping an excise tax on potatoes or for New York to tax stock trading. Even without the tax increase, taxes are the single most expensive ingredient in a glass of beer, according to the Oregon Brewers Guild.
But Democrats who run the legislature are desperate for the revenues to help pay for Oregon’s 27.9% increase in the general fund budget last year. If they have their way, every time a worker steps up to the bar and orders a cold one, his tab will rise by an extra $1.25 to $1.50 a pint. Half of these taxes will be paid by Oregonians with an income below $45,000 a year. Voters might want to remember this the next time Democrats in Salem profess to be the party of Joe Six Pack.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123976316293519743.html
—————————-
Now class, can anyone tell me what the end result of this may bring?
…”Democrats: “Hey! I’ve got an idea! Let’s tax them fuckers right out of business or force them to relocate out of state!!!” Effing BRILLIANT!!”………

Regarding my above, when we come up short in our own household budgets, we cut back, make adjustments, save, stop spending, do with less, go out and find a way to EARN some more income.
The government never ever does. There are no brakes, there is no accountability. If they come up short, they threaten to cut such things as police/fire, and hike more taxes.

I don’t put it past ACORN to be into the thick of the Tax Protesters, trying to cause trouble which they can blame on “Conservatives”. My morning paper used “conservative protest” as the big talking point on several pages. How can it be just conservatives who don’t want their grandchildren to be paying for these bailouts, and how can it be just conservatives who do not want to lose our guaranteed civil rights, and how can it just be conservatives who do not want the country over-run by illegal aliens, etc. etc.

Hello Pumas! Long time lurker – and I plan to melt back into the shadows after this… just wanted to bring this news story to your attention, as I didn’t see it posted elsewhere. It made me stand and applaud this woman, while obviously horrified she was put into this situation in the first place.
article here
From the article, you can see another asshole decided it was time to kill his wife and members of his family. So he loaded a gun, stating which bullet was for which person as he went. By the time he got it loaded and pointed at his wife, she had gotten her own gun, and decided only one person was getting shot today – HIM! And she let him have it! The only downside is that he lived. But he gets to face 5 counts of attempted murder now, and the wife’s shooting has already been ruled as self-defense!
Anyway, thought you Puma’s might like to hear this story (unless it was already posted and discussed, in which case, I apologize for being late to the party)

Hope they didn’t leave out some of racist “Minute Men” sitting lawn chairs on the AZ/Mexican with their guns while drinking BUD, and threatening to “pick off Mexicans” who cross the border. Napolitano is familiar with them with first hand experience as out Governor for 8 years. There are “threats” out there on the far right and far left. I live across the street from one.

“I woke up to an American Flag and a Confederate Flag hanging on the flag pole of my neighbors house. I saw him putting up the 20 foot flagpole yesterday. I just expected the American Flag and an Arizona flag.
He advocates “picking off” Mexicans as they try to cross the border. My other neighbors are from Afghanistan. And then we have kool-aid drinkers on the other side. And then we have us militant lesbos.
Oh, joy, oh, joy. What a block party we will have around here.”

IRS workers angry at the double standard.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-wed-geithner-tax-0415-apr15,0,6037514.story
The Treasury secretary, who oversees the IRS, didn’t pay all his taxes. Neither did five other top nominees for the Obama administration, or their spouses.
Now, as Wednesday’s tax deadline looms, some Americans are wondering why they should comply with the arcane requirements of the Internal Revenue Service when top administration officials failed to do the same. Even some IRS employees are upset at what they see as a double standard.
The most criticized example has been Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who admitted not paying $34,000 in payroll and Social Security taxes, saying his failure to pay was an oversight. Five other nominees disclosed similar tax issues, including one as recently as two weeks ago when Kathleen Sebelius, President Barack Obama’s pick for secretary of health and human services, admitted she didn’t pay $7,040.
“Our members are upset and angry,” said Colleen Kelley, president of the National Treasury Employees Union, referring to concern bubbling up within the IRS over unusually strict rules that can cost agents their jobs if they make a mistake….
…….Robert Schriebman, a California tax lawyer who has testified before Congress, said his clients are seething over the tough treatment they get from the IRS, while some in the president’s Cabinet apparently were able to duck paying their taxes.
“Politically powerful people are less likely to get bothered by the IRS,” Schriebman said. “It is more than a question of fairness. Not only is the IRS looking away from confronting influential people, the IRS is getting a lot tougher and nastier toward the little guy.”
IRS employees have reported that taxpayers are occasionally citing the Geithner case when they are asked to pay their tax bills. “It’s making the compliance conversation harder,” Kelley said.”………

I am going to a TEA party myself because the couple of people I asked, said OK but clicked on the link and had the feeling it was Obama bashing and declined because they didn’t feel it was “focused” enough or some lame excuse.
I think there is always a percieved “fear” that something bad will happen if you step outside of your comfort zone or do something out of the ordinary. Of course there is. Just like driving the car on the street, something could happen. Just practice commonsense and be aware. Sometimes, it can be a very empowering experience. We are all arm chair politicians – sometimes it is safe to go a bit further. IMHO.

I sent pics of my signs to the action center, hope to see some PUMA’S in my neck of the woods today!

I’m a longtime lurker here since the beginning. I blog only at a carefully chosen handful. Murphy, you’re one of my all-time favourites, a stalwart I can count on, in an upside-down Amerika.
I might be a fiscal conservative; hard to say since I haven’t had much money to conserve lately. Count me in as a liberal of the old-fashioned kind, who sure knows it when I’m being bashed with the “radical lunatic fringe” label. So now I’m a lunatic, an idiot, a conspiracy nut, a basher…? It’s par for the course if you’re a woman with a brain and self-respect.
To those of you who support the *real* tea parties, my Impeachment U.S.A. art project– a collection of free banners and buttons, a little poetry, plus Special Commentaries– might appeal to your sense of humour as well as outrage.

Maybe they can better understand why those “terrorist” and “anarchist” deserve to be on a watch list. They have the anarchist, protectionist nerve to protest the G8 and G20 no matter whether it has been a Dem president or Republican president.
They were the ones that were actually right all along that it would lead to this. Fear of speaking out against BO, BS. Maybe if you would have supported Hillary in the primary you would know who faced fear. Go protest a G8 summit. Maybe you missed the one in Seattle.

Murphy or Dance, can we reproduce some of the images that have been created for the “Human rights is an idea, not a priority” to pass out. Do they have copyrights on them?
————–
PumaPAC and I own the burqa-obama poster copyright, the 9/11 and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. images can be replaced with stock / copyrigfht free images if need be.
Cinie,
Thank you. Gall bladder removal surgery yesterday. All is relatively well today. Thanks, again.

boogieman, are you going to the San Antonio Tea Party?

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.

Has anyone seen or hear of this movie……….. Murphy?
My young son sent it to me and I am watching it in pieces, it’s two hours long and I have to keep up appearances at work.
Zeitgeist: Addendum
What I have seen so far in the first third of the movie:
- How the Federal Reserve creates money out of nothing which makes workers slaves, social manipulation.
‘Economic hit men that try to bribe leaders of other countries to make deals profitable for America, if they don’t agree to a bribe they are taken out by the CIA…….
Even though the first few minutes of the movie is kind of artsy, the rest is a documentary and is spell binding. My head is spinning.
Hope some of you watch it and let me know what you think.

BillieJo, you may want to check out “Modern Money Mechanics” plus other articles and the video at The Money Masters site:
Two Step Plan to National Economic Reform and Recovery
1. “Directs the Treasury Department to issue U.S. Notes…to pay off the National debt.”
2. “Increases the reserve ratio private banks are required to maintain from 10% to 100%, thereby terminating their ability to create money, while simultaneously absorbing the funds created to retire the national debt.”
They detail the Jekyll Island meeting, and they offer a FAQ on how the Federal Reserve, not to mention private banks, indeed “create” money without any gold or silver backing up the amounts– just by entering the digits on the computer, and printing new bills to keep the market flooded.

Just catching up to responses to my comment yesterday taking a FIRM stand for not joining the tea party movement and saw that sunshinelvr and BigCatLover took time to explain the rationale for joinging a tea party protest which I read with appreciation. I could not disagree one bit with your takes on what you are protesting. I hope it turned out well and that your message was heard and look forward to the pictures. I ended up sticking with my prior position whick is kind of close to

“Maybe I am to idealistic. I don’t think we should just give our power away to any group that needs PUMA’s for bodies. We end up looking like we don’t have ideas or an agenda of our own, when we do.”
Me thinks PUMAs are individuals and may have interests and causes outside of PUMA as cjv and bj articulated well. I just prefer a disciplined approach and dont think we should coopt all interests and causes under PUMA when the alignment can not be established without smearing or contradicting our true common movement objectives. I could detail that further (using the four bullet points from murphy above) but right now I’m just going to enjoy the pictures and the stories brought back.
