Some say we should shut up and stop saying things like, “Islam sucks,” and stop using terms like “woman-lynching,” and stop pointing out that violence is an epidemic that almost exclusively affects the males of the human species.
Others say we should shut up and stop calling the president of the United States a “jackass” or a “dumbass” or an “O’logo” or an “Oblowme” or an “Ojustgoaway.” They try to link our principled opposition to obama and his movement with the despicable views of racists and the discredited theories of cuckoo bird conspiracy theorists.
Sorry, Boys — not going to happen. The following acts and words were also condemned by many, many people for being “inflammatory” or “irresponsible” or too “absolutist” to gain traction in “polite” society:

Luckily, the brave Americans who ignored calls to “tone it down” or “be more ladylike” persevered. As today’s quote of the day reminds us, “It is not necessary to hope in order to undertake; nor to succeed in order to persevere.”
Keep being inflammatory Women. Confucian’s mother, who was WAY smarter than he was, said: Well behaved women rarely change history. Or something like that.

Well, I watched the entire video on the George Stephanopoulus interview with ambassador Susan Rice and while he showed the beating video, he did not say what it was reportedly for. But I read the article that Admin linked to and it reported both versions. Did you catch the line in the article where the Pakistani guy said that PUBLIC violence against women was not tolerated in Pakistan.

Isn’t it time for him to go home yet? It is good, in theory, that the new President of the United States is taking so much time to tour Europe. He arrived in London last Tuesday, has been to Strasbourg, Prague yesterday and now he’s off to Turkey. It shows, I suppose, that he cares about the outside world and that is ‘A Good Thing’. But his long stay means that we are hearing rather a lot from him, way too much in fact.”

which reminds me, the reading for next week’s Secret Matriarchy Club is posted in the Matriarchy Club forum:
here’s a taste to whet your appetite:
“BIRTH CONTROL PILLS AND BLACK CHILDREN:
a statement by the Black Unity Party (Peekskill, NY)
The Brothers are calling on the Sisters not to take the pill. It is this system’s method of exterminating black people here and abroad. To take the pill means that we are contributing to our own GENOCIDE.
However, in not taking the pill, we must have a new sense of value. When we produce children, we are aiding the REVOLUTION in the form of NATION building. Our children must have pride in their history, in their heritage, in their beauty. Our children must not be brainwashed as we were.”
AND . . . here’s where it really gets good:
“A RESPONSE
by black sisters
September 11, 1968
Dear Brothers:
Poor black sisters decide for themselves whether to have a baby or not to have a baby. If we take the pills or practice birth control in other ways, it because of poor black men.
Now, here’s how it is. Poor black men won’t support their families, won’t stick by their women — all they think about is the street, dope and liquor, women, a piece of ass, and their cars. That’s all that counts. Poor black women would be fools to sit up in the house with a whole lot of children and eventually go crazy, sick, heartbroken, no place to go, no sign of affection — nothing. Middle-class white men have always done this to their women — only more sophisticated-like.
So when whitey put out the pill and poor black sisters spread the word, we saw how simple it was not to be a fool for men any more (politically we would say that men could no longer exploit us sexually or for money and leave the babies with us to bring up). That was the first step in our waking up!
Black women have always been told by black men that we were black, ugly, evil, bitches and whores — in other words, we were the real niggers in this society — oppressed by whites, male and female, and the black man, too.”

Therefore he must go amongst his constituents and give them speeches as well.
Everyone should have the opportunity to hear what the teleprompter has to say.

FLBarbara…and also hear him take questions without the teleprompter.
On Sat. he took a few questions from male (of course) US reporters and one of them actually asked about women’s rights in the middle east where child brides amount to child rape!
Obama’s answer? Well, human rights is an ideal, but not a priority. The priority? Bush-redux: “protecting Muricans from Al Qaida.”

KerryLINY 04.06.09 at 6:35 pm
I hope this article was not in reference to some caution I voiced in prior thread – whose main thrust I otherwise supported wholeheartedly.
Inflamatory is good. Against oppression and against injustice. Like the pictures suggest. They are vindicated in time. The truth is never held back indefinitely.
Inflamatory in the sense of advocating infanticide against boy children, male genetic inferiority or whatever nonsense, and incessant references to killing and exterminating will not advance any agenda. Inflamatory in the sense practiced by Malcolm X will never regard him a hero while inflamatory in the sense encouraged by MLK and Alice Paul will. Inflamatory in totally trashing and refering to a fellow PUMA (who I believe a victim as well) as “it” amongst other things I cant see advancing anything. What gain is it to us if Nijma goes away dejected? Is she the focus or the oppressor? Is it not better if she leaves thinking about what was said. Maybe she wont but dejected wont more likely change any mind either. We made a very strong argument I believe sans the insults which should be reserved for the horrible extremists. And I truly believe it is valid to state that “islam sucks” based on clear evidence and explain it as we did.
(Maybe I havent been following all the threads and she’d done some other thing I was unaware of – that I would stay out of and this part of the comment may be ignored.)
Some more inflamatory rhetoric that will never be whitewashed by history:
- Rev. Wright was inflamatory
- Malcolm X was inflamatory
- Ahmajinedad is inflamatory
- I’m sure we can populate this list further.
Otherwise, inflamatory is an excellent tool to gather focus on very important issues that everyone continues to excuse or ignore.
NO ONE should be shut up anywhere in voicing outrage or protest to obvious injustice.
Zee 04.06.09 at 6:38 pm

Hmmm….Kerry…I missed it if Nijma has threatened to go away. She was on late last night, iirc.
She’s not Islamic…she’s said she’s Christian. But she offers some insights on foreign culture.
“Islam sucks” is not as insulting, imo, as those (I don’t mean Nijma, I mean men from Obama on down) who chalk up horrific human rights abuses against women as “cultural differences.”
i infuriated a male friend the other day by shutting him down when he started that “cultural differences” bs. As if women are complicit in their own slavery.
Currently, there are two American women imprisoned in Iran for trying to cover the women’s rights movement in Iran. These women under Islamic rule are not complying out of some sort of “cultural difference.” They are under threat of imprisonment, disfigurement or death, morons who think they agree with their own enslavement!

Great post Murphy.
Back in the 80’s my youngest daughter and I would discuss feminism often. She noted the worst thing for women was not just being one but to be poor, black and gay was the worst possible scenario. I would tell her at least they would not have to have forced pregnancies and she said her friend at college was raped and did have a child…..her Mother had her child and 3 others from her sisters and was working and trying to support them all. Shhit poor grandma! Daughters friend was going to N. Adams State, paid by the State but dropped out. Must tell my daughter also dropped out but did go back and graduate on her dime not mine the second time around! Ah bless BIRTH CONTROL!!!!

glenn greenwald is being pretty inflammatory: accusing obama as being as bad as W:
“What’s being asserted here by the Obama DOJ is the virtually absolute power of presidential secrecy, the right to break the law with no consequences, and immunity from surveillance lawsuits so sweeping that one can hardly believe that it’s being claimed with a straight face. It is simply inexcusable for those who spent the last several years screaming when the Bush administration did exactly this to remain silent now or, worse, to search for excuses to justify this behavior. As EFF’s Bankston put it:
President Obama promised the American people a new era of transparency, accountability, and respect for civil liberties. But with the Obama Justice Department continuing the Bush administration’s cover-up of the National Security Agency’s dragnet surveillance of millions of Americans, and insisting that the much-publicized warrantless wiretapping program is still a “secret” that cannot be reviewed by the courts, it feels like deja vu all over again.
This is the Obama DOJ’s work and only its work, and it is equal to, and in some senses surpasses, the radical secrecy and immunity claims of the Bush administration.”

“Monday Night soROARity
Co Authors
Dr. Phyllis Chesler & Marcia Pappas
“Gender Apartheid–Not Our Agenda“
The authors have both been speaking out about honor killings in the West and have both described the recent Buffalo beheading of Aasiya Z. Hassan by her husband as an Islamist-style honor-related killing.
Marcia Pappas, the President of NOW-NYS, has been scolded by national NOW’s President and criticized by a coalition of domestic violence advocates for her views about this.
Dr. Phyllis Chesler, the author of thirteen books, including Women and Madness, has been writing about Islamic gender apartheid and its penetration of the West for many years. She, too, has been challenged, even condemned, for her views about honor killings in general and for her views about the shocking case of Aasiya Z. Hassan, in particular.”
Pappas and Chesler will be tonight, April 6th, at 10pm eastern (7p, pacific)

On the good news front…another woman hero in office:
Congresswoman Jackie Speier has introduced a new bill….
http://www.speier.house.gov/?sectionid=48§iontree=46,48&itemid=148
Speier bill establishes Women’s Commission
04/02/09
WASHINGTON – On the ninety-second anniversary of Jeanette Rankin being sworn in as the first female Member of Congress, Congresswoman Jackie Speier introduced a bill today to establish a Presidential Commission on Women.
“Despite advances in the lives and livelihoods of women since Ms. Rankin took her oath of office, their remains in our society many forms of subtle but insidious discrimination,” Congresswoman Speier said. “The issues that affect us all – poverty; violence; inequities in healthcare, housing and employment – are still shouldered disproportionately by women. A Presidential Commission on Women will be able to examine these and other issues in a thorough, rational and bipartisan manner and help illuminate a path toward a brighter and more equitable future.”
HR 1887 would establish a 15 member non-salaried Commission on Women charged with examining “the circumstances that contribute to discrimination, inequality and economic hardship faced by women throughout the country…”

Najma, I went back to read “your answers” to my questions, but all you wrote basically were more questions and more mumbo jumbo and it was all very boring. I did not see anything complex about your answers.
You have a tendency to answer a question with a question that is what I call avoidance or lack of knowledge about the subject matter.
And basically what I have learned about the Muslim’s religion with their jihad and their suicidal encouragements, andthe bogus promise of 74 virgins when they get to heaven, is something no thinking person could abide with.

One of the things that has been responsible for PUMA’s longevity thus far, has been Murphy’s amazing talent for love and tolerance of others, even when I KNOW she must be gritting her teeth and muttering thru clenched jaws.
And we keep coming back.
