H/t to Bostonboomer for the neologism. Sacramento’s tent city grows by the week, and as BB points out, in Elkhart, Indiana, more than 1,600 people lined up for food provided by the charity Feed the Children. You may remember Elkhart — it’s the town O’logo used as a publicity backdrop when he was making televised sales calls for his Stimulus Muddle last month.
Jim, a California man who worked construction for 30 years, and now lives in a tent in Sacramento’s Obamaville said, “It wasn’t even in my wildest dreams to be in a place like this.”

I really think many of those construction workers out of jobs should get government jobs in New Orleans, we know illegals are making money there, give these workers the jobs jeeeeeeeeesss.
It must be like a nightmare living in a tent where you can see maybe something you helped build. Totally unacceptable, give that money we want to send to help rebuild the gaza to give these people jobs.

Why the hell do we need to outsource technology jobs when we have the talent right here?
Submitted by Robert Oak on Fri, 03/13/2009 – 01:31. bribery fraud H-1B Insourcing/Outsourcing Kundra outsourcing Vivek
This is one hell of a story. One week after President Obama announced his new CIO of the United States, the FBI raided the very office where Kundra just held the position of CTO and arrested Kundra’s former CSO and another former employee, for massive fraud and bribes.
D.C.’s top IT security official charged with bribery
Arrested this morning was Yusuf Acar, who currently is the District of Columbia’s acting chief security officer; police said they found $70,000 in cash in his Washington home. Acar’s annual salary is $127,468, according to court documents.
The second suspect arraigned on bribery charges is Sushil Bansal, CEO and founder of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp. (AITC), a Washington-based outsourcing vendor that has won a number of contracts from the district’s IT department.
This is where Vivek Kundra was CEO just one week ago. Bansal is on a H-1B guest worker Visa, previously worked also for D.C. city government and magically started his own company for which he is now indicted for fraud and bribery by the FBI.
Now there are multiple questions.
How can someone on a temporary non-immigrant H-1B Visa start a company in the United States in government and in security?
Secondly, how can the Obama administration put someone in a CIO position with these kind of connections and seemingly is promoting offshore outsourcing?
How in God’s name can the government even promote the offshore outsourcing of government jobs? How can the government not realize the security issues in using offshore outsourcing?
How many other government contracts, I.T. security issues do we have these kind of offshore outsourcing agenda, bribes, hand rubbing and so on?
This is not the direction you want to take a ever more critical security area, never mind the fraud, bribery and abuses.
Now even more unbelievable, Bansal was named entrepreneur of the year by the Association of Indians in America.
Ok, the entrepreneur of the year is somehow on a non-immigrant Visa yet seemingly self-sponsoring and forming a company which was pure fraud and bribery all the while offshore outsourcing American jobs.
The relationships of these people being former, close employees of Vivek Kundra at minimum shows incredibly bad judgment. It’s hard to imagine one not being aware this was going on under their nose…
What was Kundra doing in the first place using a H-1B for a government job? There are numerous Americans out of work who have all of these skills and yes, they too can incorporate themselves and manage a firm…and they can do it even without fraud, bribery and abuse!
So, considering those facts, who knows what the FBI will discover, I’m just glad they are looking.
This is government, security issues and that assuredly should require U.S. citizenship so why was anyone on a temporary Visa even allowed to apply or provide any services in the first place?
More to come on the details but at minimum putting someone so close to offshore outsourcing and H-1B Visas as the top CIO sends a horrific message to all U.S. workers.
It’s supposed to be our government….right?

Corporate oil booms in low-tax Switzerland
ZUG, Switzerland, March 12 (Reuters) – The tidy towns and mountain vistas of Switzerland are an unlikely setting for an oil boom.
Yet a wave of energy companies has in the last few months announced plans to move to Switzerland — mainly for its appeal as a low-tax corporate domicile that looks relatively likely to stay out of reach of Barack Obama’s tax-seeking administration.

Speech at the dedication of Abraham Lincoln Hall at the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
Excerpt:
Quote:
We cannot continue to push the burden on to our military alone, nor leave dormant any aspect of the full arsenal of American capability. And that’s why my administration is committed to renewing diplomacy as a tool of American power, and to developing our civilian national security capabilities. This effort takes place within the walls of this university, where civilians sit alongside soldiers in the classroom. And it must continue out in the field, where American civilians can advance opportunity, enhance governance and the rule of law, and attack the causes of war around the world. We have to enlist our civilians in the same way that we enlist those members of the armed services in understanding this broad mission that we have.

Boston Globe: Many Boston teens surveyed say Rihanna is at fault for assault
The Boston Globe published a horrifying article today titled “Many Boston teens surveyed say Rihanna is at fault for assault”. The article reports the results of a survey conducted by the Boston Public Health Commission.
Here are a few quotes:
” Nearly half of the 200 Boston teenagers interviewed for an informal poll said pop star Rihanna was responsible for the beating she allegedly took at the hands of her boyfriend, fellow music star Chris Brown, in February.”
“Health counselors are specifically concerned with teenagers’ views of the controversy. Of the teens questioned, more than half said both Brown, 19, and Rihanna, 21, were equally responsible for the assault. More than half said the media were treating Brown unfairly, and 46 percent said Rihanna was responsible for the incident.”

“Obama’s Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth”
“Polling data show that Mr. Obama’s approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama’s net presidential approval rating — which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve — is just six, his lowest rating to date.
………
A detailed examination of presidential popularity after 50 days on the job similarly demonstrates a substantial drop in presidential approval relative to other elected presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries. The reason for this decline most likely has to do with doubts about the administration’s policies and their impact on peoples’ lives.”

(Sorry if someone already posted these poll results. I lose track of polls.)

Chris Brown and Rihanna Record a Duet
Even with a criminal case pending, Chris Brown and Rihanna are making music together.
Brown, 19, who is charged with two felonies in the alleged beating of Rihanna, recently recorded a duet with her, the song’s producer, Polow Da Don, tells PEOPLE. “My heart goes out to both Chris and Rihanna for what has happened in the past,” says Polow. “They are both great artists to work with, and I wish them well.”
To the shock of friends and family, the pair reconciled days before Brown’s court appearance and have now spent time together recording a song that, a source tells PEOPLE, is “sweet and sentimental” and “expresses the challenges of a love relationship.”

Giving The Fingerprint: Home Law Raises Concern
Sellers Will Be Required To Provide Thumbprint Before Deal Is Approved
Real estate certainly has its risks and fraud is a growing problem, but now there’s a new law that’s supposed to protect buyers. As CBS 2′s Mike Puccinelli reports the new law will also place an unusual burden on the seller.
Fingerprinting is something we often associate with crime. So the fact that Cook County home sellers–and homeowners across the state–will soon have to provide a thumb print left some people shocked.

Raped and killed for being a lesbian: South Africa ignores ‘corrective’ attacks
The partially clothed body of Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa’s acclaimed Banyana Banyana national female football squad, was found in a creek in a park in Kwa Thema, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Simelane had been gang-raped and brutally beaten before being stabbed 25 times in the face, chest and legs. As well as being one of South Africa’s best-known female footballers, Simelane was a voracious equality rights campaigner and one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian in Kwa Thema.

NBC now has the gruesome story highlighted by taggles #25.
South Africa gangs using rape to ‘cure’ lesbians.
Gangs of South African men are raping lesbians in the belief it will “cure” the women’s sexual orientation, an aid agency said Friday.
NGO ActionAid said in a report titled “Hate Crimes: the rise of corrective rape in South Africa” lesbians were increasingly at risk of rape, particularly in South African townships where homosexuality is largely taboo.
South Africa has one of the world’s most progressive constitutions and became the first country in Africa to allow gay marriage in 2006, but homosexuality is still widely frowned upon and same-sex unions are often decried as “un-African.”

That homeless story is shocking. I hope something will be done about it.
The story of the rape and murder in South Africa is horrifying. I can’t bring myself to watch the video though.
Alice Rodham Puma 03.13.09 at 12:20 pm
Of the 31 cases, only two cases were brought to South African courts and there has been only one conviction. South Africa has one of the world highest rates of rape but activists say very few cases end in conviction, and women’s groups say police and the justice system have failed to tackle the problem.
ActionAid estimates there are 500,000 rapes in South Africa every year.
It said the police were particularly reluctant to investigate crimes against lesbians and said support for survivors was inadequate.
