Heidi Li just blew my mind:
“If President Obama and the Democratic Congress were to horse-trade away men’s rights to control their health care, I am confident that there would be hue and cry. But this is because the baseline assumption in our society is that men are entitled to control their own bodies. No man of any color is the property of the state, nor may the state dole out its aid starting from the presumption that the state has more say so over men’s bodies then men themselves do.
But since President Obama has decreed “there’s not a minute to spare” before he gets the stimulus package he is willing to settle for, apparently he has not a minute to spare to fight for women’s rights to control and care for their bodies.”
Emphasis mine; ability to rearrange brain cells Heidi’s.
Holy Smokes. So, obama’s decision to cave on ONLY ONE PIECE of his TRILLION DOLLAR BOONDOGGLE just HAPPENS to be the one that would be an enormous relief to millions of poor and working class women who worry about unwanted pregnancies and taking care of their families.
what. a. JACKass.

I bet there are a lot of women over at Ms. Magazine slinking off to the corner tonight. Boy, they are going to rue the day that labeled that man a feminist! The man is not a feminist because he has never taken a feminist position in his life. Voting irregularly as a Democrat would, when you are from the bluest district in all of Illinois, does not entitle you to be called a feminist.

Here’s something you may want to ask you health care provider(s), how do they dispose of health records once a person is no longer their patient. How do they store that person’s file until the required number of years before disposal are reached.

PUMAbear, downstairs asked:
“Does anybody know if this community organizing and stabilization plan is going to include “faith” based organizations? or organizations like MoveOn.org reinventing themselves as political meet-ups?
A big donation to MoveOn.org would probably recoup plenty of dough for George Soros and the World Savings guy(?) that put up so many millions for BO. Somehow I don’t think George Soros ever planned to lose money on his investment.”
the answer is YES YES YES! and it AIN’T pretty:
SM77 wrote about it yesterday at the Confluence:
“(From USA Today)
Many people assumed that any Democrat would restore the secular work of government and strive to remove religion from politics. But Obama has indicated that he intends to expand, not eliminate, the faith-based programs. Indeed, he has stated that Bush’s faith-based office “never fulfilled its promise” due to a lack of funding. This “lack of funding” cost this country $2.2 billion in 2007 alone.
Obama reportedly plans to change the name from the “Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives” into his own “White House Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships.” The old office would become 12 offices to carry out the expanded program. Not exactly the change that many secularists and liberals were hoping for.”
here’s the link to SM77′s whole piece — it’s DEFINITELY worth the read:

Repost. Y’all always leave me downstairs is it because I’m a racist?
Just a little food for thought about the electronic medical records. I belong to the Tricare system, the military’s medical system which is contracted to Humana. A few years ago, several computers were stolen from a Tricare site out west compromising the social security numbers and medical information of hundreds of thousands of veterans like myself. I had to put a freeze on my credit and spent months hoping my identity would not be stolen. As far as I know those computers were never recovered, so I’ve had to be vigilant about constantly checking my credit ever since.
Honestly, the thought of a database with the private information of nearly everyone in this country in the hands of the government gives me a very uneasy feeling.

Everyone has probably gone to bed but I will post this anyway.
I was doing some research for my daughter tonight on Quotes about Communication and I came across three interesting one which I shall post below. I especially appreciate the one by Dick Morris, because we are sending Representative and Senators communication about the HR1.
Power in America today is control of the means of communication.
Theodore White—–(MSM)—-
A monopoly on the means of communication may define a ruling elite more precisely than the celebrated Marxian formula of monopoly in the means of production.
Robert Anton Wilson
Anybody who thinks that getting a communication from a voter in your district is spam – that guy is pork. Roast pork unless he changes his point of view.

“What Red Ink? Wall Street Paid Hefty Bonuses
By BEN WHITE
By almost any measure, 2008 was a complete disaster for Wall Street — except, that is, when the bonuses arrived.
Despite crippling losses, multibillion-dollar bailouts and the passing of some of the most prominent names in the business, employees at financial companies in New York, the now-diminished world capital of capital, collected an estimated $18.4 billion in bonuses for the year.
That was the sixth-largest haul on record, according to a report released Wednesday by the New York State comptroller.
While the payouts paled next to the riches of recent years, Wall Street workers still took home about as much as they did in 2004, when the Dow Jones industrial average was flying above 10,000, on its way to a record high.
Some bankers took home millions last year even as their employers lost billions.”

Ok, so this is a confusing issue now. First, the conservative spin was that Nancy Pelosi was trying to get american citizens to not procreate because it would be good for the economy (and that was pooh poohed) by funding birth control, now the cessation of this funding means Barack Obama is throwing poorer woman under the bus.
Ouch! Opposite positions both jockeying their viewpoints and confusing many out there.

Murphy #6 & 9,
Somehow I think throwing poor women and family planning under the bus is part of the usual Obama shuffle that appears to be carrying out a liberal agenda (stimulus package) while currying favor with the repugs AND the religious right..the old “Family Planning” feminist issue under the bus. Obama wants to take over “feminism” and use it for his ends. I think all will become clear soon. MoveOn.com has adds saying THEY need more professional organizers.
The old leftists were completely anti-female-the on your backs bit**es types. I think Obama was raised in a culture that puts women at the BOTTOM, but I’m not sure he’s a leftist. He’s absorbed the dissembling character of both the right and the left. I’m going to compose something about COINTELPRO. Remember them? Probably not, but they pretty much brought the “rights” movements of the 1960′s and 1970′s to their knees.

Meanwhile…it will be interesting to see what unfolds with this week’s story about Hillary’s ideas for talking with China:
Secretary of State Clinton Calls for Comprehensive US-China Dialogue
http://www.voanews.com/english/2009-01-27-voa46.cfm
And, last week’s story re-her 3-D approach:
Development, Defense, Diiplomacy – The three d’s are ‘equal partners’ in US security: Clinton
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5juI5FnC_PEaUhjjpKxN0UdQ_08OQ
“…The approach boosts the image of a “country that is not just militaristic but is also one that has shared interests with their problems as well,” said Lancaster, who now teaches politics at Georgetown University.
“She has already begun to wrap all of these things up into a bigger theme of her foreign policy, which is both traditional and humanitarian and development oriented.”
Lancaster acknowledged that funds were tight during the current economic crisis but suggested a “hard look” at accounts could turn up funds for important projects.
The former USAID executive expected Clinton would push projects linked to universal education and would involve women more in development projects.
Clinton may also stress projects to mitigate the effects of climate change on farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. These could involve plans to plant more drought-resistant crops, Lancaster said.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/28/AR2009012802916.html?nav=rss_opinion/columns
“…To my chagrin, the PR offensive seems to be working, not only with TV talkers who often confuse celebrity with more serious attributes, but with journalists who ought to know better.”

Murphy,
Isn’t weird that a president would have “community groups” organized to swing into action immediately against HIS opponents. Phone banks organized to send millions of emails (MoveOn did it and now one is called to take action against Rush Limbaugh)MoveOn members can also make quick strikes or arrange to picket or boycott people that oppose , not the democrats, but Obama himself. (Sounds kinda brown-shirty). I’m sure people are hired to swarm any blog or publication that is remotely critical of the One. You should have read the comment section of the NYT with Bob Woodward talking about an Obama WH scandal. Hundreds of emails and ALL of them obots.
No wonder the dems wanted FISA, even though they pretended they didn’t.

Here’s my reply to a blog entry titled “$200 million for condoms?”
$200 million is what would be SAVED by this provision. Here is a cite from the Washington Post, quoted and linked at Heidi Li’s blog,
http://tdg.typepad.com/heidi_lis_potpourri/2009/01/a-week-or-so-into-our-new-presidential-administration-and-the-strange-sensation-of-living-in-a-universe-that-only-partially.html
As the House version of the legislation came to the floor on Tuesday, Democrats stripped from it a provision that Republicans had ridiculed as having nothing to do with economic stimulus, one expanding federal Medicaid coverage of family planning services. (The Congressional Budget Officehad estimated that the provision would actually save the government $200 million over five years by reducing pregnancy and postnatal-care expenses.)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – Arkansas didn’t give President Barack Obama its six electoral votes and a House committee won’t be sending him any congratulations, either.
The House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs voted down a nonbinding resolution to congratulate Obama, after some lawmakers questioned wording that referred to the United States being founded by slave owners.
Six members – five Democrats and one Republican – voted Wednesday to recommend the resolution to the House, while 11 members voted against the recommendation. Several of the critics took issue with a sentence that began, “whereas, a nation founded by slave owners…”
“My recollection of American history is that while some of the founders were slave owners, some of them were abolitionists. And some of them were sent to the constitutional convention from states that made slavery illegal,” said Rep. Dan Greenberg, R-Little Rock.

Let me get this straight… funding for birth control has been stripped, after NARAL and NOW kissed the feet of “The One.”
Media access has been denied, after the MSM kissed the a** of “The One.”
Is anyone else starting to get the feeling that worshipping this man is not the way to get something back from him?
This is what I was taught was the difference between a bribe and a reward. In a bribe, the reward is front-ended, and gives all the power away to the bribed.
In a reward system, the reward is promised… in exchange for a certain behavior.
What NOW, NARAL, and Ms. Mag did was to proffer a bribe. They have, thus, given away all their power to negotiate. I can scarcely believe they were this stupid….
And to think, at one time I admired them.

Get Ready Pumas..more being added to bailout bill!
JANUARY 29, 2009 From Yachts to Textiles, Perks for Special Interests
WASHINGTON — The economic stimulus plan could include dozens of special-interest provisions pushed by lawmakers to help constituents such as the South Florida yacht-repair industry, Manhattan subway riders and California wine makers.
President Barack Obama wanted to keep the package free of such narrow provisions, partly to hold down the cost of the plan. But the business-as-usual process for handling the legislation on Capitol Hill is swelling its price tag to nearly $900 billion and giving Mr. Obama a refresher course on the congressional sausage-making process.
Many of the special-interest projects were included in a version of the stimulus plan that passed the House on Wednesday. In the Senate, lobbying groups from the agriculture to timber industries are working with home-state senators to add their pet items to the Senate version of the bill, which is set to be debated on the floor next week.
House lawmakers voted to add substantial funds to transit programs in New York, such as the city’s long-awaited Second Avenue Subway line.
On Wednesday, Democrats from New York, Chicago and other cities added $3 billion in funding for transit systems. New York would be in line for several hundred million dollars for transit projects, such as the planned Second Avenue Subway and the East Side Access Tunnel. The extra funding “will be a great boon to New York in particular,” New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler said after lawmakers voted to add the funding in a House floor vote.

Senator Schumer Standing Up for Gillibrand..
The night Caroline Kennedy pulled out of the New York Senate scrum, Chuck Schumer was burning up the lines to Gov. David Paterson, breaking down the other prospects like they were first-round picks in the NFL draft.
Paterson made the final call on Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, a blonde-bobbed 42-year-old former corporate lawyer with right-of-center positions on guns and immigration.
But Schumer never made a secret he admired Gillibrand’s fundraising prowess, and he didn’t exactly shout “No way!” and slam down the phone — as he’s been known to do. That prompted many Democrats in Gotham to surmise he was the invisible hand behind the Gillibrand selection — and injected New York’s senior senator directly into the middle of the growing controversy surrounding the surprise selection.

Bush the Dummy:
“Last month, Karl Rove revealed that he and Bush spent the past three years in a furious competition to see who could read the most books. It started, fittingly, with Team of Rivals. In 2006, the year Republicans lost the Congress, Rove out-read Bush 110-95. Rove went on to win the next two years, 76-51 and 64-40. That’s an astonishing 436 books … .”
Any big brains who can beat that?

Did you also notice how Matthews did not even call Dick Armey on his sexist comment to Joan Walsh. Matthews next guest, a black man from the New York Times, said Dick Armey owes Joan Walsh an apology. It was only after that comment and a break that Matthews addressed it – too late. This really hit home with me. I had the same thing happen in the private sector when I stood up to a man. He said he couldn’t believe anyone would stay married to me…actually news to him, I’ve been married for 38 years. I attribute it to the fact that my husband would never treat or talk to me like that. Our marriage has been between two equals. Actually, I feel for Dick Armey’s wife. He probably treats her like a rug on the ground. Women need to stand up for themselves and other women and not accept sexism at home or in society (especially MSM).

OH – SWEET ,SWEET IRONY !!!!!
This story on my local news this morning ..
Apparently , Obot supporters who spent the $75 dollars for the Barack Obama coins from the infomercial are a bit disappointed to find that their Barack Obama coins are nothing more than a normal half dollar or quarter with a STICKER of Obama attached to the front !!!!!!
“”The whole front comes off. Its just a sticker stuck on top of a regular quarter or regular Kennedy half dollar. Its just a Barack Obama sticker stuck on top”, says Thomas.
PERFECT !!!!! Imposter coin for an imposter President !
Wait until they get to see what is under the empty suit they elected ! lol

The Obots were rampant on my daughter’s university campus last fall. She is a history major, and took a course in American History and part of that major. A whole section of the course was SUPPOSED to be about women and their struggle to obtain the vote. Another section was SUPPOSED to be about Native Americans and their plight. All the professor talked about the whole course was civil rights and slavery and how Obama would reverse that sin. On the days the other two subjects were to be discussed, he spent less than 10 minutes of an hour and a half class talking about them.
At the end of the course, every teacher/professor is anomously evaluated by the students. There are a number of categories in that evaluation, including how well they covered the course material. Daughter gave the man a poor rating on that section. In her comments she told the university why she had given that rating.
Yesterday she needed to be in the history department to see another professor about a totally unrelated issue. It was then that she discovered the two teachers have adjoining offices and share a reception area. The prof from last semester walked up to her in the reception area and verbally attacked her about her evaluation. He got right up into her face and shouted at her, saying that he always knows who said what on their evaluation because of their discussions in class and things they wrote on the narative sections of their exams. Another student was with Daughter. After the shock of the attack wore off, they decided not to allow this breech of protocol to pass unchallenged.
The two of them are filing a complaint against the professor today. I don’t see how they can afford to do otherwise. It was bad enough that Professor didn’t cover the material, but to verbally attack a female student in front of another female student because he failed to appropriately teach a major part a course, replacing it with his political views is beyond the pale.
My daughter is a PUMA. Perhaps that made a difference?

I think I have an answer to the questions raised over and over about why development and maintenance (sod) for the National Mall is part of the stimulus bill. David Obey (D) is head of the House Appropriations Committee (correct meif I’m wrong on the committee name) and he lobbied hard on the floor of the House all yesterday to get the bill to a vote and passed. On C-Span’s Washington Journal this morning the host read from one of the newspapers that his son has a high position with the park service that maintains the Mall. I will try to locate which newspaper it was in and post a link here when I do. BBL
Heneri 01.29.09 at 8:55 am
The truth is: Or nation’s capitol city is in a poor state of repair. From the cherry trees to the monuments, delayed maintenance is rampant. I saw a documentary on it recently. Bush diverted funds from anything and everything into his war. The way the national mall has been maintained is a disgrace.
To repair anything of that size takes money and lots of labor. Much of it would be farmed out to subcontractors. Materials for the job would be purchased from the private sector. This is the kind of stimulus that we need, believe it or not.
The ‘blue dog democrats’ were on Lou Dobbs last evening. They are pushing for the repeal of NAFTA and the most favored nation status of China. They say these are two major issues that would cost the government nothing to take care of. This is just proof once again that there are more than two ways to solve a problem. I hope somebody listens to these 49 Blue dogs.
honora 01.29.09 at 8:59 am
I used to live on Capitol Hill and the Mall served as a park for all of us. We had picnics, football games, etc. I am afraid that once they spend all this money on the Mall, it will be deemed too good for regular people to use. Was there money in the stimulus package for ‘Do Not Walk On Mall’ signs, with $500 fine in little letters?
BigCatLover 01.29.09 at 9:00 am
It’s the Washington Times that had the story on Obey’s son:
A top House Republican is demanding an investigation into whether the more than $2 billion for national parks in the House stimulus package is proper in light of the fact that the chief lobbyist for the National Parks Conservation Association is the son of House Appropriations Committee Chairman David R. Obey.
NPCA is a major player in advocating for national parks funding, and its senior vice president for government affairs is Craig Obey, son of the Wisconsin Democrat who has long been his party’s top Appropriations Committee member.
The money included in the stimulus bill that passed Mr. Obey’s committee – $2.25 billion – was about equal to the National Park Service’s total yearly budget, and would be a staggering increase and almost three times the $802 million that the Senate Appropriations Committee approved for park spending in its stimulus bill.

Evaluations are supposed to be confidential. Students are not supposed to put their names on them. One student is supposed to collect them and bring them to the appropriate office without the professor seeing them. I have always believed that professors do recognize handwriting and do know who writes a particular eval, so I have always been circumspect. But the whole idea is to get accurate feedback about a professor without fear of retribution on a student. Obviously the whole process here has been compromised. There is a leak in the office as well.
There are independent rating services like pick-a -prof and others where you can read independent comments by students. If a professor is teaching Obama worship instead of covering the course materials, I would be very interested in knowing that before choosing that particular course. I suspect the stink that will follow this professor will dry up any future editions of that class.
The obamatrons need to be TAKING a course in women’s history, not teaching one.

Ann Lewis, Senior Advisor for Hillary Clinton for President, has served as the Director of Communications for HillPAC and Friends of Hillary 2005-2007 and from 1997 –2000 as Director of Communications and then Counselor to Bill Clinton.
She was head of Political Division of the DNC in 1981-85.
Lewis is the sister of United States Congressman Barney Frank.
She was Director of Communications and Deputy Campaign Manager for the Clinton-Gore Re-Election Campaign in 1995- 1996, and Senior Advisor to the campaign of Hillary Rodham Clinton for U.S. Senate in 2000. As the National Chair of the DNC Women’s Vote Center, she led the Democratic Party’s major initiative to reach, engage, and mobilize women voters from 2003- 2004.
In 2001, Lewis was the Richman Visiting Professor at Brandeis University, teaching a course on the Presidency entitled “The West Wing and The Real World” and a Public Policy Fellow at the Annenberg School of Communications of the University of Pennsylvania.
There’s more on Wilipedia. I’m not sure about the purpose of the new group she’s emailing about.

So they striped the women’s health funds from the stimulus package because it had nothing to do with stimulating the economy… how many other things in that package have nothing to do with stimulating the economy? Acorn for one…
ipotter 01.29.09 at 1:15 pm
Not that I think the women’s health funding really can’t be considered a stimulus–it would help fund clinics (and jobs) for those who provide health services to low-income women. The same rationale can be used on just about any part of the stimulus package IMHO… one can just about all of the items do not stimulate the economy if using the rationale they used to cut women’s health funds.
