Good news from Governor Paterson’s office: two-term, upstate Representative Kirsten Gillibrand will replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate. Gillibrand is young, centrist, and kick-ass. I like her. Harking back to yesterday’s conversation on the blog, she also has two young children, which makes her unique in Congress. Best of luck to Gillibrand and congratulations to Governor Paterson for choosing based on merit and experience, AND for maintaining the number of women in the Senate. Nice goin.
Riverdaughter says that the New York Times has been acting positively WEIRD about the Caroline Kennedy candidacy. They certainly seem to be bending over backwards to make Paterson look like an incompetent who bungled the process. You don’t think the pooh-bahs at the NYT favored Kennedy, do you? But, but that would be BIASED! Short on facts, long on innuendo, this article reads really strange.
And speaking of the So-Called Free Press, WHY ON EARTH do they keep reporting with a straight face that Geithner’s tax evasion was an “honest mistake”?? The IRS informed him he owed the taxes YEARS ago. Geithner actually told the IRS to take a hike on the unpaid taxes for which he claimed the statute of limitations had expired. It wasn’t until he was named as obama’s nominee as fox to guard the henhouse that Geithner decided to stop playing chicken with the IRS and pay the damned taxes that he damned well KNEW he owed.
That was NOT a mistake. It was STRATEGY. Geithner thought he could get away with not paying the older amounts, but then changed his strategy when he realized he was about to be in the spotlight. At that point he hurriedly wrote the check to the IRS. Reporting otherwise is DISHONEST.
Do the Geithner Prowl HERE.
And, yes, Donna Brazile CAN sit on it.
