Yes he CAN say with a straight face. “But those values upon which our success depends – hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism - these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility.”
Holy smokes and pass the Hopium Pipe, Folks. That man is so full of baloney it’s no wonder his eyes are brown. Today’s crappy speech by Jon, The Groper, Favreau is a wonder of hypocrisy of profoundly deep shallowness. Just like our new president!
Oh, and go read Cinie — you’ll be glad you did. Here’s a taste to whet your appetite:
Suppose The View’s Elizabeth Hasselbeck announced that she was running for president in 2012? As a Democrat? Feminist? What if she hired a sharp, ruthless, barracuda of a campaign manager who stage-managed an almost flawless production, assembling bright, committed women and men willing to think outside the box in order to get the job done, using the mysteriously acquired unlimited funds at her disposal to get Elizabeth’s unique, yet poignant story to the masses?
– snip –
As her campaign grew, with Caroline Kennedy and Nancy Pelosi enthusiastically endorsing her, and female Democrats and Republicans of every race coming forward to embrace her and her story, and every male, Democrat and Republican, hurrying to align themselves with her, too, lest they be tarred with the chauvinistic, closet abuser brush her campaign cleverly wielded as a sword of implication hanging perilously over their heads, would you be cheered by the prospect of the seeming inevitability of finally putting a woman in the White House? Or, would you watch in horror, transfixed by the spectacle, with a permanent “what the fuck?!” expression etched upon your face, questioning her experience as your friends, family and co-workers questioned your sanity?”

Yeah! I’m first……
“The press is impotent when it abandons itself to falsehood.” –Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Seymour, 1807.
Tom Brokaw needs to retire! He compared Cupcake’s inauguration to the Velvet Revolution when the Communists were overthrown in Prague. Here’s the info…
TOM BROKAW: “You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of the Velvet Revolution. I was in Prague when that happened. And Vaclev Havel was a generational leader and was in the square in Prague and the streets were filled with joy. And we’re not overthrowing a communist regime here, obviously, but an unpopular president is leaving and people have been waiting for this moment. And there’s that same sense of joyfulness and possibility even though, as in Czechoslovakia, they had enormous problems and we do as well.”

Hi Murphy & Dances.. I’ve been blissfully keeping away from news of the coronation of their Messiah. As Jenni says, He’s not my president.

Carol H,
That has been “my take” as well! As much as everyone dislikes and/or hates Bush, I am afraid that Obama will make Bush seem like a “cake-walk”!
For the sake of this country, I HOPE and PRAY that I am wrong!
antifish 01.20.09 at 11:56 pm
Oh whoopteedoo Obama is the new Messiah of us all! His skin and the pigments within will turn the whole world into a euphoric mass of orgasmic wonderment as to why we ever thought of fighting a war or ignoring the plight of any soul on God’s green earth. How dare we?

Posting fashion commentary from Sugar N Spice….
” Gosh, I actually had high hopes for the gown tonight. The get-up that the First Lady wore today was okay. It wasn’t anything earth-shattering, but it was okay for her considering some of the train wrecks that we’ve seen her wearing. But, that gown tonight, while the color looked nice on her, there was just far too much chest, arms and back out on a First Lady in my own opinion. I mean, who knew it was a toga party? And, must she slam her arms into her thighs after she waves them high? So unlady-like. I suspect that she will get better at this–First Lady stuff–but gosh she’s got a ways to go. Five words for her: Andre Leon Talley and speed dial. Oprah should be able to hook that up. Sheesh. He’ll tell Michelle’s ass the truth.” –SUGAR

Ex-DemInVA 01.21.09 at 12:02 am
The previous post on The One’s speech is great Murphy. Your comments definitely enlightened a boring, sappy speech. It was very hollow – a bunch of words that said basically nothing.
I sure hope that Hillary is sworn in as SOS immediately. We NEED her at the helm.
I am so glad that this day is over. I caught some of the swearing in ceremony – he should not have interruped Roberts. I can’t figure out why he did. It threw him him.
I hope that it is not all that is talked about at work tomorrow. I don’t want to hear it.

They need to leave Mrs Obama alone. All the men have to do is throw on pants and a jacket that masks their paunch and beer bellies, and is designed to give them squared off shoulders through the miracle of padding, tie a colorful noose around their necks, and theyre ready to go.
Double standard.

If Hasselbeck can come out undestroyed in 22 debates with one in Hillary’s calibre and take out McCain in 3 (2/3 if you prefer Fox’s interpretation) and she has 11 years in elected office as state senator or congress man, lead the taking down of the death penalty under a republican admin, voted 131 times present out of 2000 actual votes, or taught constitutional law. Still she will need to be able to inspire folks on the campaign stump for 20 months take questions from sundry and plumbers on the trail and if she can fool 67 million folks then they’ll deserve what they get.
Let’s not get too trite or cute or we will be as obots koolaid drinnkers feeding each other hyperboles and might just underestimate our challenges.

KerryLINY, if you don’t get the analogy, fine. But Obama didn’t do any of the things you allege other than serve part time in the Illinois State Senate, 2 years in Congress, run for office and fool 67 million people with the help of funny money and a curiously compliant media. He did not emerge unscathed in debates, and nothing I wrote is akin to Obot mania. The death penalty legislation was put on the table by the governor who went to jail after he put a moratorium on executions.

Gov. Paterson:
Asked if he was feeling pressure to replace Clinton with a woman, Paterson said, “I don’t consider it pressure, but there were 17 women in the United States Senate when the women’s population is nearly 52 percent, and now without Hillary there would be 16. So I would think it’s a valid point. I wouldn’t say it’s pressure. I wouldn’t say it’s a factor, but it is a point that people have raised.”

Time heals all wounds. Either the Democratic cabal that put him in and are pulling his strings, putting words in his mouth etc will be successful in some of their efforts, or he and they will all lose favor within the next year. Every failure will be explained away for a while. But, just like the man they patterned this fiasco after, he will lose the will of the people who put him there when reality of his foolishness becomes apparent to the point where reality sets in.
Our role in this? We need to keep pushing for the right kind of change. We need to keep aware and informed, be reasonable, be diligent, and support only the things that make sense, refuse to worship, refuse to support anything that is foolish, and support unaffiliated candidates who are on the right beam.

Heneri: Our role in this?
—————
This morning I realized how lucky we were to leave Bush behind; I’d like the same option for O should he remain POTUS for eight years. Which brings me to a personal urgency for opposing the repeal of two term limit. I’m a bit more agitated about it because NYC mayor Michael Bloomburg has made great progress in repealing the two-term limit that had threatened the bid he has decided he wants for yet another term. Point being: precedent for overturning two terms is being set in NY. Think we’d better not let coattail effects take over on this legislation.
Scarlet; thanks for Senate schedule. Hillary is uppermost in our minds but truly I did not know where Ledbetter stood.

THE BLOGOSPHERE IS SILENT
I do not know if all the O’bots partied too much and are hung over this morning, but they are all very silent. Last night there was some really ugly stuff being posted about BO on some of the less monitored boards. Very little rebuttle. Now that they have what they want, they do not know what to do. Do you think they are all going to show up and serve their master now?
clintondemocrat 01.21.09 at 10:50 am
Okay, I personally think (given the conditions that exist) that it is funny and awesome that Bill and Hillary are on the FRONT ROW on the inaguration prayer service. It goes like this obama, that woman, Joe Biden, Dr. Biden, President Clinton, Secretary of State Designate Clinton. I mean honestly, it isn’t all those jerks from the DEM party. It isn’t even Pelosi who is actually the third in line. It is Bill and hillary and I think it’s great. I heard Dr. Jill Biden is going to continue her university work. I didn’t know she had a PhD
Back Bay Style 01.21.09 at 11:49 am
I don’t think this is so far-fetched. No, it won’t be Elizabeth Hassleback, but the method of modern elections is now established. And I have had the sinking feeling for a long time now that the only way we will see a woman in the presidency is from the Republican party, and she will be someone very like Elizabeth Hassleback. After all, Rove invented the method, Axelrod only modernized and marketed it.
