Someone on the previous thread mentioned the book Infidel. Apparently it was written by an anonymous African woman who is trying to get a visa to live in Holland.

Assuming the inflammatory title of the book doesn’t tip you off right away to what kind of book it is, here is a sample of the type of reviews it received:

The book was also praised by Andrew Anthony in The Observer, though with a critical note: “But of course in voicing her opinion in the style she does, she risks lumping together over a billion people from different nations, cultures and traditions as a single ‘problem’”.[10] A book review in the The Economist echoed Anthony’s sentiment, stating “much as she tries, the kind of problems that Ms Hirsi Ali describes in Infidel are all too human to be blamed entirely on Islam. But the West’s tendency to seek simplistic explanations is a weakness that Ms Hirsi Ali also shows she has been happy to exploit.”[11] Lorraine Ali in Newsweek magazine gave the book a negative review, claiming that the reader will feel “manipulated” by Hirsi’s story and “Hirsi Ali is more a hero among Islamophobes than Islamic women.” and said that, Hirsi sounds as “single-minded and reactionary as the zealots she’s worked so hard to oppose.

I USUALLY avoid the word–it just slipped out (I did a BO), but it is so fitting in some strange way without the societal connotations and historical relevances if you know what I mean.

What to call mean purposively dumb women is quite a conundrum….smarter minds than mine may need to come up with the right word…until then I will just use the next best word which is asshole (gross and right to the point)

Dances, worst comes to worst with the flyer…only the first page needs to be printed out. Sucks I can’t figure it out, makes my geek ego hurt.

I think it’s because part of the footer is too low on the second page, margin thing like you said. It says that when I print it out. Don’t know how to fix that margin, even decreased the entire flyer with lots of room on the bottom that was blank and it still had a blank second page.

Obomas inauguration is looking like it will cost around $150 million dollars, 30 million will be covered by hollywood donors what about the remaining 120 million. You and me the tax payer gets that bill. is it me or is there something severly wrong with this.

I fixed the word doc flyer, too little spacing left after the text which was forcing the document to create a new set of clumns, I reworded one of the lines to allow for the space of a few characters to be removed, which in turn moved up the last line on th epage 1 and removed page 2 automatically.

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S’s: slavery, secession, segregation and now socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs. It was Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and sent troops to Arkansas to desegregate schools. President Eisenhower also appointed Chief Justice Earl Warren to the U.S. Supreme Court, which resulted in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision ending school segregation. Much is made of Democrat President Harry Truman’s issuing an Executive Order in 1948 to desegregate the military. Not mentioned is the fact that it was Eisenhower who actually took action to effectively end segregation in the military.

A New Partnership With State And Local Parties

1. The Urgent Need

In a life spent advancing our conservative principles, I have had the privilege to serve as a county chairman, a state chairman, a candidate and an elected official. But my greatest appreciation for the important work our party came from my time door knocking, stuffing envelopes and talking to voters. These experiences have each consistently illustrated for me a key lesson: the road to victory is paved by discipline, hard work and collaboration. In each instance, I’ve had the opportunity to view the RNC through various lenses and can bring to the chairmanship a local activist’s and candidate’s sensibilities. Yet, that alone will not be enough. No one person’s experiences will be enough to transform the RNC. To bring as much insight and wisdom into our operations as possible, I will build strong bridges to state party officials and develop a seasoned staff who will support my efforts to create build a party unified in message but also in operation.

My plan for winning the future relies on collaboration as the foundation to the road to victory. We need to forge a new working relationship between the RNC and state and local parties that will deliver a unified message and assure an amplification of resources. This will require constant dialogue. It will require a free and open exchange of ideas. And, it will require an immediate and collaborative examination with the Republican leaders of every state and the leadership of the RNC on what is and isn’t broken. Each state Party must examine how the Republican brand, and Republican ideals, can best be advanced in their ongoing efforts to improve. As leaders, our role is to listen to a broad universe of stakeholders, to unify around our common goals and then to create solutions that work.

As history has repeatedly shown us, our success depends on winning campaigns at all levels of government: local, state, and federal. This will demand a heuristic approach with its roots in a strong relationship between those local, state, and national activists.

While each state Party is different – with different constituencies and different needs – we must position the RNC to extend itself to each as a trusted and constant teammate as we develop messages, recruit candidates, reach out to new voter groups, organize volunteers, and raise money. And it starts with making you a partner in the process at the inception of our plan for 2009 and beyond.

Steele is my choice as well. I have been listening to him during the election, and I knew of him before. I think he will be the right choice as the head of the RNC. He knows his stuff, and he’s not afraid to say what he thinks.

Paulson is Bush’s Treasury Secretary, who got us into this mess and took part of the bank bailout $700B and gave it to the auto companies. The new team (Clinton Restoration) wants to do what Hillary and Geithner say: use the rest of the bailout money to prevent foreclosures etc. (See midstreamnews.blogspot.com)

FL Barabara, I can’t say about him exactly, but early detection is important. When meningitis hits a community usually it isn’t recognized right away and sometimes one dies before they can diagnose it. Once they know it is going around, they are all on alert and they test for it very quickly and the chances are better.

Hollywood’s Sundance Kid is hurting poor people.

So say some East Coast ministers and conservative activists, who took to the streets in front of a downtown Salt Lake City theater on the eve of Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Festival to accuse the actor of holding down low-income Americans with his opposition to oil and gas drilling near national parks in Utah.

The protesters, led by the Congress of Racial Equality’s national spokesman Niger Innis, suggested Redford should “relinquish his wealth” and live like a poor person. They complained that the filmmaker’s anti-drilling stance could lead to higher energy prices for inner-city residents, forcing them to accept a lower standard of living.

The clergymen prayed for Redford “to see the light” and linked his environmental activism with racism.

“The high energy prices we’re going to see this winter are essentially discriminatory,” said Bishop Harry Jackson Jr. of the Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, Md., chairman of the High-Impact Leadership Coalition, a petroleum industry advocate.

The Senate is/was supposed to vote on the motion to proceed to debating this bill. Reid had filed cloture on the motion to proceed to debate S181 on January 13 and, from what I have read, there will be no Senate hearings before the vote.
