Take Action Today: Equal Pay up for a Vote in the House Tomorrow, January 9th

The new Congress is only days old, but already we have a great opportunity for equality with two critical bills that will come up for a House vote tomorrow, January 9th.

If enacted, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (H.R. 11) will correct a grave injustice perpetrated by a wrong-headed 2007 Supreme Court decision. In the Ledbetter case, the Court ruled that an employee must challenge pay discrimination within 180 days of the employer’s initial decision to discriminate or forever forfeit his or her right to demand equality. Absurdly, this is true whether the employee knows about the discrimination in that time period or not.

The legislation now before Congress will restore the well-established right of people to sue to recover lost wages for ongoing pay discrimination that, in many cases, lasts years and years.

The vitally important Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 12) is also up for a vote in the House Friday. This bill will put an end to loopholes and weak remedies that have made the Equal Pay Act, a 45 year-old law that was supposed to ensure equal pay for women, less effective than it should be in combating wage discrimination.

Together, these bills will provide the tools needed to gain equal pay for equal work and combat the damaging effects of wage discrimination faced by hard-working employees and their families.

The Senate is expected to take up these bills very soon as well. We expect the margin to be razor-thin. A strong House vote for both these bills will help convince on-the-fence Senators to do the right thing.

It would not surprise me one bit. He did not in the slightest seem concerned or upset that is supposedly beloved grandmother passed away. He has no emotions or a conscience. He is all about power and he will walk ALL over anyone that gets in his way, including his grandmother.

I hope the Sinclair book does come out soon. Even though Bambi and his pals will try to discredit it, I’m sure Sinclair will have too many documented details that will get some people wondering if he’s telling the truth. I had heard that Bambi is NOT happy this book is being published.

BO’s economic plan
The $350 billion – WSJ analysis – Companies would write off hugh losses incurred last year – The catch is companies making a profit or individuals paying income taxes will not get this tax rebate/check. BO rewards businesses that fail and people not paying income taxes – BO’s tax cut = welfare plan

Second provision – the investment write-offs would be retroactive to expenditures made as of Jan. 1 – This is the real tax cut – BO or the government is micromanaging these businesses

As I said before – cut corporate taxes, eliminate capital gains for several years, cut spending.

BO wants us all dependent on government handouts -isn’t this socialism?

Wasn’t there supposed to be like a million people? Hillbuzz says it was more like 150,000 and most were gone by 11. I’m just saying where’s the reporting of things like this? Like Sarah getting huge crowds–no reporting. Obama SAYING there will be huge crowds–BIG HEADLINES even though those huge crowds… uh, never really came. I swear to you, ask your resident-MSM consumer how many people were in Chicago for election night, I guarantee you’re going to get some people saying, “Oh, there were at least a million” because that’s what they heard PRIOR to the event.

Can anyone answer this question legally?

Is it possible for women of the US to form a Class Action Law Suit against either the Congress or the remaining 15 states that have not passed the Equal Right Amendment giving women the same rights as men in the Constitution? The only rights women have from the Constitution is they can vote!

I am serious with this question and would appreciate real legal answers.

TOPIC: Note to Fauvre!

Since you are Obama’s speechwriter and I am not, surely that means you know more about politics and language and psychology than I do?
Then again, maybe not.

So in the spirit of trying to be a good American, here are some tips for Obama and for any future speeches you might write for our anointed one, I mean, President-elect:

1. Encourage people. Remind Americans how well they have pulled through during hard times. Remind them about things like gross national product, keeping a stiff upper lip, and work ethic. Tell us to keep working hard, and not to give up, tell us to try to find the pleasure in the little things, remind us that winter won’t last forever and spring will be here again before we know it. Give people confidence, tell them “we’ve done it before, we can do it again.”

2. Now that you won the election is not the time to drop your hopey-changey message. Don’t talk about how bad things are, give people reason for hope. Remind them they have sons and daughters or grandkids, that you care about these future generations, and are working hard to come up with solutions for the current economic mess.

3. America is a land of opportunity, but things are not equal for everyone, especially WOMEN. Try, try hard, to give women some reason to be hopeful about their futures as workers, wives, mothers, volunteers, and voters.

4. Our economy may be down, but in terms of our natural resources we are still one of the wealthiest nations on earth. Again, give Americans reasons for hope, and pride. Talk about our national landmarks, national parks and forests, all of the natural resources we have that are tremendous assets if we just care for them properly.

5. Everyone has heard you speak by now, and you talk too much. Shorten your speeches and you will have extra time to acknowledge the accomplishments of others besides yourself, what a refreshing change! This will also give you the extra time you need to roll up your sleeves and GET TO WORK!!!

supreme court is the only court to have authority over congress….an individual can not apply directly to the supreme court….
