Support the Lilly Ledbetter Act

in Action,Obadministration,PROWL,The Habit of Freedom,Women Who Smoke

Contact your reps in Congress and tell them to vote YES on the Lilly Ledbetter  Fair Pay Act (H.R. 11) and the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 12).  These important bills may be voted on as early as today, so get PROWLING.

These two important bills make it much easier for women to demand equal pay for equal work. They also makes it far less likely that employers will even try to pay their women employees less in the first place.

This is a two-part PROWL. First, copy and paste the letter below and send it to your representative in Congress. Edit the letter as you like, our simply use it as is.

Second, CALL your congressional rep today and ask her or him to support the Ledbetter Law and Fair Paycheck law, with no weakening amendments.

p.s. To learn more about the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the Fair Paycheck Act, please visit the National Women’s Law Center.

(h/t to Ladyboomer NYC for today’s PROWL)

Reposted from downstairs:
Prowled, Growled and voted today. You are right, it was very easy to send. Thank you, Murphy.
Barry sent an e-mail asking me to pay five dollars for his historic inaugural event open to the public. He can reach into his own pocket and pay for his party with the petty cash he has left over from his historically corrupt campaign.

Did this already this morning when I got the e-mail,, plus sent it out to everyone in my address book, repubs and dems alike- just forgot to post here!

I wanted in on the Blagojovich comments- I say good for him for calling Reid’s bluff- I wish more dems of power had done the same thing over the primary season- perhaps if that were the case, we would actually have a leader getting ready to take the POTUS position instead of a puppet to the most incompetent and ineffective democratic congress ever.

Let’s not forget when we look at the trillion dollar deficit, W didn’t create that by himself, the blame-everyone-else-but-us-incompetent-democrats had a big hand in it- Frank, Pelosi, Reid, Dodd to name a few.

And good for Feinstein to stand up and open her mouth re:Panetta and Burris- perhaps some democrats are starting to find their – ok- what is the politically or gender correct term here? As much as I hate to say it- balls- certainly finishes that sentence nicely- and I am a feminist!

Not surprisingly, Lilly Ledbetter was a very vocal and strong Hillary supporter for as long as she could be.

Will complete the prowl after class….

Obama the Fraud is at it again. This is part of the email that I received asking for a donation in hopes of getting a seat at his inauguration..

“On January 20th, our journey to bring change will officially begin.

We’re organizing the most open and accessible inauguration in our nation’s history. And we’re doing it without contributions from Washington lobbyists or big corporations.

Just like we did on the campaign, we’re relying entirely on supporters like you — ordinary people giving whatever they can afford to make this an event for all Americans.”

BO’s stimulus plan or tax cut is really welfare plan for businesses, individuals and families. In other words instead of the government taking in tax dollars to fund all these programs, his administration is giving out welfare checks to all.

So, the minority of businesses and people paying income taxes will continue to fund his welfare plan. BO is going to bankrupt this country. America wake up to this fraud before we become a Socialist and third world country!!!!!!!!!

“In 1980, the bottom 50 percent of the nations paid 7 percent of the national tax bill, after refund and credits. It now pays 3 percent under Obama’s plan, it would pay less than nothing ( that is, it would net a profit from the IRS).” Source NY Post

BillieJo 01.08.09 at 2:42 pm

Hi (((((Go))))))))
Thanks for that post, here is some of it:

The city of San Francisco is challenging a California state law allowing “gender rating,” a practice that permits insurance companies to charge women higher rates than men for policies in the individual health insurance market, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera sent a letter to the state attorney general indicating that the city intends to sue the state if the legislation allowing gender rating is not repealed. The letter targets two state statutes passed in 1991 and 2005, which came to city officials’ attention a few months ago after the release of a national study on insurance rates. The laws are based on the assertion that women are more expensive than men to insure, even without considering the cost of maternity care, because women tend to visit doctors more often and are more likely to have certain chronic diseases. Gender rating currently is illegal in 10 states and restricted in two others, the Chronicle reports. Herrera said that gender rating “acts in a discriminatory way over women who are seeking health insurance.” He added that the practice places a greater burden on county governments when women cannot afford high insurance costs and “are forced into getting their health care from San Francisco General Hospital and city clinics.”
——–
1- Women go to the doctor more often then men…… (Agree)
2- “…and are more likely to have certain chronic diseases.

What chronic diseases do women have that men don’t? (PMS?)
Doctors treat more women then men because men don’t go to the doctors. Insurances companies don’t want to be charged for treating illnesses.

They want women to die at an earlier age so men and women will be more equal, or they want women to pay for health care when they are attacked, and raped by men?

Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

“2- “…and are more likely to have certain chronic diseases.

Let’s see
Heart Disease: women & them. check
Diabetes: women & them. check
Severe mental illness: them & women. check
COPD: women & men. check
Cancer: women & men. check. Wait, do they mean we have more areas affected by cancer than they do? Hmmmmm.

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, H.R. 2831, S. 1843 (110th Congress)

Lilly Ledbetter is a woman from Alabama who for two decades got paid less than her male counter parts in the same job. Now the Congress for the last few years has been kicking around the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. For which I hope passes…
Here once again lies the problem, we have NOW, Womens Law Center, just to name a few. These organizations raise millions of dollars of your money, with this Fair Pay Act you would think they would be spending this money in the media trying to get women involved to get the word out for them to call their legislature. “Nope” on the eve of the vote they now reach out to members to mobilize.
Why I ask you do we support these inept groups, they have drop the ball time and time again. This is why Alice Paul started her own group, and thank the stars she did or it probably would have been thirty or fifty more years, women would have fought to get the right to vote…
I say we get on the horn contact every representative we know that if they do not do all in their power to get this past we will see them ousted out of their job period.
I say we send Now, and any other womens groups we can think of that has been around for more than a year and has raised more than a few million in a year. Send them the Alice Paul salute, boot them like the National American Women’s Suffragettes Movement, or else we will never see the ERA come to fruition. Send these organization one line “I am not waiting fifty years and you do not represent me anymore”, I will be avenge or I will support the first Alice Paul that comes along…

Obama’s Social Security Treachery

Obama has now revealed what his legacy is to be – the destruction of Social Security.

Ignore the flowery words, Obama is planning a great treachery. Expect PINOs to be silent.

Obama today mouthed another “big speech” on the economy. Ignore it. Obama is doing the ol’ Razzle Dazzle to distract from his real plans.

“The Obama economic plan, the so-called “stimulus” – all are stalking horses for the destruction of Social Security.

PINO Big Blogs? We’ve checked – silence. Not a word about the great Obama treachery. [Even the "Hillary supporting" blogs have been strangely silent or more likely unaware or distracted by sideshows such as Roland Burris.]”

http://www.hillaryis44.org/?p=843

Who is more like to be on Social Security in their senior years for the longest?
Answer: Women

The ability of the Precious One to mau-mau an election has made him the archetypal Edsal of American politics. He comes to the fore with enormous ballyhoo, promises and pretentious labels (Office of the President Elect) but no substance. Instead, we get flim-flam – the latest version is the ridiculous demand to “Reform” Social Security.
A – it is not an entitlement if recipients have paid premiums all their working lives.
B – it is not a major fiscal problem and can be rejuvenated by taking the cap off salaries that pay into the system.
C – it is a very large fund of savings from American workers which is routinely stolen by federal bookkeepers in
a pathetic effort to conceal the hideous reality of the deficit they have squandered on our behalf.

Every time The One starts bloviating about a problem he is going to solve I know we have to watch his “other hand”. You can bet your bippy that he is going to cause a lot more problems than he solves.

I’m off and on today, but an exit plan is pretty much what kat described in the last thread. She just can’t really shake what happened to her before. She has her own bank info, always carries her daughters health and birth cards. She has a safe house near where she lives with a box that includes copies of all documents, cash, clothes, things a baby would need and updates the contents if needed. She has 10 prepaid cab rides in her name and every cabbie in the city knows the woman’s shelter. I have a similar box in my basement. I don’t know if there is more abuse now with her generation or just more knowledge of it. I do know respect, or should I say lack of respect, has something to do with it.

If I had a dime for every time a “green” person insisted that oblowme was the answer to all the problems regarding sustainable living. How he would listen to THEM when he got in office, etc… well, it’s obvious who he is listening to, now isn’t it?

The Organic Consumer’s Association is now trying to block obambam’s pick for Agriculture Secretary. He has chosen Monsanto ally and former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to the position of Secretary of Agriculture. Vilsack has a disappointing record of promoting controversial genetically engineered foods, biopharm crops, and animal cloning, as well as cheerleading for unsustainable biofuels derived from corn and soybeans. In addition Vilsack has come under fire for aiding and abetting chemical and energy-intensive industrial agriculture, including Iowa’s infamous Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs).

They go on to say that Vilsack is far from representing the “Change” which Obama has promised… (can i say just one word please… DUH! )

Anyway, here is a petition which obots are sure to be signing to oppose Vilsack’s confirmation. Perhaps we can join them on this one:

Digital TV shift may be delayed

Posted January 8, 2009 10:45 AM

by Frank James

Don’t get rid of those old analog televisions yet. The national transition to digital television was supposed to occur next month on Feb. 17. But some key members of Congress and the Obama presidential transition may engineer a delay of a few months because of problems in the transition.

There’s been growing concern that the Federal Communications Commission has mishandled the roll-out in a way that could potentially leave millions of viewers with analog TVs unconnected to cable without the ability to get a signal.

Just remember… Obama is still putting the economy down and making it worse… remember what happened in the Jimmy Carter era… when he came out and said how really bad things were…. let’s not forget history… what is Obama’s reason for making everyone fearful? He doesn’t want to hold the anyone responsible, but he wants to forfeit our children’s future…. This is the home of the “brave”….

I did neither but thought the only reason he is talking like that about women wearing those is because men in this country want women to look sexy.

The result is the same though. Women can’t just be women. They are slaves to sex in mens minds either looking sexy or being covered up. Same result. No diff.

Those Senate Dems have made out like bandits! That is why they did nothing. These people are not “Real Democrats” they are all crooks.

I suggest we start a campaign and vote these people out. What happened to that goal?

This is off topic, but if the world does not wake up to the threat of these people – the fact that they want to go back to barbaric times, the Lily Ledbetter, Chicago politics etc. will be nothing to worry about.

From the ACLU

Take Action Today: Equal Pay up for a Vote in the House Tomorrow, January 9th

The new Congress is only days old, but already we have a great opportunity for equality with two critical bills that will come up for a House vote tomorrow, January 9th.

If enacted, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (H.R. 11) will correct a grave injustice perpetrated by a wrong-headed 2007 Supreme Court decision. In the Ledbetter case, the Court ruled that an employee must challenge pay discrimination within 180 days of the employer’s initial decision to discriminate or forever forfeit his or her right to demand equality. Absurdly, this is true whether the employee knows about the discrimination in that time period or not.

The legislation now before Congress will restore the well-established right of people to sue to recover lost wages for ongoing pay discrimination that, in many cases, lasts years and years.

The vitally important Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 12) is also up for a vote in the House Friday. This bill will put an end to loopholes and weak remedies that have made the Equal Pay Act, a 45 year-old law that was supposed to ensure equal pay for women, less effective than it should be in combating wage discrimination.

Together, these bills will provide the tools needed to gain equal pay for equal work and combat the damaging effects of wage discrimination faced by hard-working employees and their families.

The Senate is expected to take up these bills very soon as well. We expect the margin to be razor-thin. A strong House vote for both these bills will help convince on-the-fence Senators to do the right thing.

>>Take Action Today: Tell your member of Congress to support equality and pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.
