How dare a WOMAN, even Caroline Kennedy, insult the ALMIGHTY MEDIA? It MUST be her INEXPERIENCE. (She is inexperienced, but that doesn’t mean the shoe doesn’t fit)

Caroline Kennedy Busts on New York Times Reporter in Interview
The potential next U.S. senator from New York tells the city’s biggest newspaper that their reporters aren’t such a crack political team while also inadvertently insulting women’s magazines.

powered by BaynoteU.S. Senate candidate Caroline Kennedy seemingly accused two New York Times reporters of working up a puff piece on her because they asked her in an interview when she decided she wanted to be the senator.

After being criticized for not taking questions from the press recently now she’s under scrutiny for the answers that she’s given in a flurry of interviews in recent days.

Three New York newspapers all published stories Sunday after interviewing Kennedy a day earlier at a diner in her upper East Side neighborhood of New York City.

The New York Daily News painted Kennedy as defiant, quoting her saying she would not be beholden to anyone. The New York Post cast the daughter of President John Kennedy and holder to the Camelot myth in warmer familial tones with headline saying her kids and husband are all aboard a run for the Senate and President-elect Barack Obama is encouraging her.

But The New York Times said while Kennedy is forceful, she remains elusive, and noted that she never answered directly whether she would actually run in an election for the Senate seat if she weren’t appointed first.

Kennedy said she did think it would be easier for her to hold a campaign of sorts as a way for the public to get to know her before she gets selected by Gov. David Paterson to replace Hillary Clinton, who is likely to join the Obama administration as its secretary of state.

” I think that actually a campaign would be an easier way, because I think it would give me a chance to explain exactly what I’m doing, why I would want to do this, and, you know, and get people to know me better,” she said.

But Kennedy appeared to insult women’s magazines when she responded to a question by one of the reporters to recall, for the sake of storytelling, the moment she decided that wanted to be the senator from New York.

“Have you guys ever thought about writing for, like, a woman’s magazine or something?” she asked, to which the reporter countered by asking what she has against women’s magazines?

“Nothing at all, but I thought you were the crack political team here,” she answered.

The unscripted response was followed by Kennedy saying she wishes she could draw on a moment and will think about it a little more.

A female hopeful for the Senate seat apparently insulting women’s magazines may not be received warmly despite her talk of her being a mother and spouse.

It also highlights what many New York political insiders are questioning, which is the validity of her experience. Kennedy has never held political office or shaped public policy. But she has worked with the New York Board of Education for the last six years and said she can use her well-known name to focus attention on New York’s need for a larger share of federal stimulus money.

Kennedy did not answer questions about the other candidates nor address how she would manage a position that also has to handle foreign affairs. There is a saying in New York politics that it’s all about the three I’s, Italy Ireland and Israel. The U.S. senator from the state must deal with constituencies that require deft handling.

airforcehusker, if they weren’t diseased in some way, they gave sight to two people who may have been in my group. I can see today due to the donation of two people who died and donated their corneas. We owe the Lions’ Club a HUGE debt of gratitude for running the EyeBanks around the world.
We think of our corneas donors quite often… and speak of them lovingly….. so whoever got your sister’s eyes went from blind to SEEING again, and that is something that most people just don’t fully understand until they’ve gone through it themself. We are so grateful to people like your sister… two people are seeing today because of her generosity….

Barack Obama has nominated a Jewish woman to serve as his solicitor general.

Elena Kagan, dean of the Harvard Law School, would be the first female to serve in the job if confirmed by the Senate. The solicitor general represents the US government at the Supreme Court, arguing cases before the court and filing briefs stating the government’s position when the government is not a direct party to the case. The solicitor general position is often seen as a stepping stone to a future Supreme Court nomination.

Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism director Rabbi David Saperstein praised the appointment of Kagan, whom he dealt with when Kagan was a lawyer and policy adviser in the Clinton White House.

“She’s the quintessential Barack Obama appointment: She’s intellectually brilliant, and politically gifted at finding common ground and finding consensus,” said Saperstein, who added that Kagan “knows First Amendment issues very well” and “really knows the Jewish community well.”

Here’s the lyrics:

One Two Three Four
Tell me that you love me more
Sleepless, long nights
That was what my youth was for

Oh teenage hopes are lying at your door
Left you with nothing
But they want some more

Oh, oh, oh
You’re changing your heart
Oh, oh, oh
You know who you are

Sweetheart, bitter heart
Now I can’t tell you apart
Cozy and cold
Put the horse before the cart

Those teenage hopes
Who have tears in their eyes
Too scared to own up
To one little lie

Oh, oh, oh
You’re changing your heart
Oh, oh, oh
You know who you are

One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, and ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then
One, two, three, four, five, six, nine, and ten
Money can’t buy you back the love that you had then

Oh, oh, oh
You’re changing your heart
Oh, oh, oh
You know who you are
Oh, oh, oh
You’re changing your heart
Oh, oh, oh
You know who you are

Dances … I apologize about the other night, I could not get back on to the puma site. I called TexasT. and she told me that the site had been going down all day. I am just now getting back because I had to go out of town for work.
I was “freaking out” when I could not get back on here … I thought that I had once again “destroyed” my computer. Audra had to work all night at the hospital, so all I could think was … she is going to KILL ME if I have done something again to this computer! LOL
Anyway, you had asked me about choosing an “action” and I wanted to ask you about what you thought and/or your opinion. In other words, what “action” needs the most help or attention at this time etc… Since, I have been gone for approx. a month, I feel so out of touch with what is going on, so I thought you may know where I am most needed.

Snowboards with photos of naked women spark free speech row

The boards, made by a Vermont snowboard manufacturer called Burton as part of its Playboy range, have antagonised local parents, politicians and even the state’s Girl Scouts, who are considering political action.

Opinion in famously liberal Vermont, the main skiing state on the East Coast, has divided sharply over the boards, with their supporters arguing that the right of people not to be offended out on the slopes is less important than the constitutional right to free expression.

City leaders in Burlington, where the boards are made, have asked Burton – one of America’s biggest snowboard makers – to stop making the range, whose images are taken from 1970s Playboy magazines.

The company’s founders have in turn insisted that the criticism has been “hurtful and out-of-line”, pointing out that it targeted the sort of 18-year-old man who want gear “their parents would never be caught dead in”.

However, several Vermont resorts including Killington and Stowe have banned their staff from using the boards and the Girl Scout Council of Vermont is considering taking the issue to state legislators next month.

Brittany Wieland, a 16-year-old Girl Scout, told the Boston Globe that resorts should only allow people with offensive boards on to the slopes when children were not around.

“Snowboarding and skiing are supposed to be a family thing, not ‘Hey, look at the naked person on my snowboard’,” she said.

TOPIC: BLAGO & Oblahblah

Reposting, I like this quote:

“The Governor of Illinois, for all his well-documented faults, has performed at least one valuable public service. He has made it clear to the meanest intelligence that our new President-elect emerged from a hopelessly corrupt political culture. Barack Obama oozed from the same stinking Chicago swamp that produced Blagojevich, and a man whose formative years were spent wallowing in the muck with such creatures isn’t likely to be long in White House before the stench of pay-to-play politics begins to pervade the place.”–David Catron, AmThinker, 01/06/09.

Anybody still up?
Here is a song I really like right now, by the group KEANE. Their new CD is also very good.

I like the imagery & opening lines of this song:
“I walked across / an empty land / I knew the pathway like the back of my hand / I felt the earth, beneath my feet / sat by the river and it made me complete”

…very PUMA-esque!

I’m not even going to try to catch up. Tonight is my regular night to meet and have dinner with my Haida elder. He been gone, having spent the last 3 2eeks in Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil.
Hearing how the people who live there, who are not wealthy, have to live their livesmakes me mor grateful for how I get to live mine.
I really love him. However he has a hard time with me being PUMA, because he says no matter what our sex/gender, height, weight, location, we are ALL equal.
And he, very adamantly refused to see things differently.
We believe we can only change the world and the reality we live in one person at a time. And the only one I really have any control over enough to change is me.
So I led the discussion back to how we exert a positive influence to promote a willingness to change in others.
He says itis by believing in that you are intrinsically something with great capacity for good, and then live it so as to be an example to others.
Because if they can’t SEE it, then they prolly aren’t going to figure it out for themselves. The Creator brought us together at just that moment to experience the awareness of a possiblity, conceived here in this blog.
The possibility of working with someone to change the belief and attitudes of men. My mentor commands great respect because of the example he sets.
He trys to love everybody. To help anyone that is set before him in need. Pansy? Hardly! The man served 4 combat tours with Special Forces attached to CIA in Viet Nam/Southeast Asia.
I got him to nibble tonight and he said he would give it serious thought between now and next time. I asked how to reach more men. He said, “Man or Woman, set example of the change you want to see the world.” I said I would love to set an example that is much larger than the conversation between him and me. That I would like to carry the message. There are classes for girls and women everywhere, but not that many for boys.
He liked the idea of developing and implementing a plan to take a program in to schols and other youth organizations.

He told me of his recent experience after arriving back in Seattle at SeaTac Airport. e and his partner decided they wanted espresso, so stopped on HWY 99 on the way into Seattle.
The spotted a small place called the Spotted Cow. He and she both did a double take at the drive-up, when the woman leaned out the window to take their order, clad only in Victoria’s Secrets Bra and Thong.
He was really upset and said he would NEVER even drive on that street again. Then he got all worked up about how id people quit BUYING all that shit they advertize with sex everywhere, a lot of it would go away. Enough to begin getting people’s attention.
He said that people who buy it have no respect for women, not even their own mother, wife, daughter, sister, not even those who condemn it.
I’m excited to have such a wonderful relationship with this Shaman. He is a well-known and respected elder among Native Ameican communities all over the Pacific Northwest states and Alaska. He and one other perform most of the traditional ceremonies. And he calls me on ALL my shit. He supplicates with me to be the spiritual being I am. He doesn’t cut me any slack. We are all, each and every one of us, a holy person. We just don’t act like it and everyone of us is guilty of some character defect. But some recognize it and change their beliefs because they have seen the right way. They become willing to stand on the ground of their ethics that all are created equal; equally free, equally accountable. The karma of those who are ignorant about the Reverent Goddess called Woman, and fail to accord them respect, and love and dignified honor, will probably be condemned to come back as A woman.
We are all about what we have been taught and exposed to since birth. There is another way, the way of choice. The choice to have and live for values that make our life experience one of wonder, as a child views the world. I am talking with men. I make them uncomfortable. But some of them listen. some have genuine respect and love for all women. And SOME are willing to consider that. If it’s not in their face, it’s not something they are likely to think about on their own.
123
mountainsong 01.07.09 at 1:07 am
To be ‘equal’ means to be the same.
If all women are different, then we are the same.
And…………
124
mountainsong 01.07.09 at 1:21 am
I’m encouraged because I see that the change we crave is a process that is already happening. Not all men are sex-crazed abusers. Some are truly offended at the disgrace of the uncouth demanding they live without principle.
As with most of life, it is always easy to see and focus on the ugly, and unjust, and negative and lose sight of the idea that not all are bad. That both will always exist in our worlds because we judge everything as good or bad. Everything from our weather, our jobs, our children. so that it is like we are taught to make, the default everything we view as negative, or unacceptable. We become ‘angry’.
And no one likes to be around an angry person. At least I don’t.
My elder inspires me to be better because of his gentlenss and regard for life and love of the Creator. He is an example I choose to follow. I see a lesson in all this.
125
mountainsong 01.07.09 at 1:28 am
Once, I asked him how he could be so mellow after all the stuff he’s been thru.
He said he hangs out with that kind of people and talks to the Creator. I laughed. In a more gutteral way, he said, “In other words, I don’t ever hang out with Assholes.”
126
mountainsong 01.07.09 at 1:35 am
He also says that if men are respectable, then women will respect them…and if women are respectable, then men will respect them.
He said, “But, I have NO respect for that woman in the espresso stand. She doesn’t have to disrespect herself by dressing like that to serve others or disrespect us, who see no need for that in a world already confused.”

They are people used to living without hope of a better life. But it’s their choice to believe that. It’s based on an earlier choice to believe they aren’t worth it. Because if they did feel they are beautiful children of the Creator they would know they are made perfect and would have no need for ‘religion’. Or wars, or anything else that detracts from the quality of life for every soul.

Good Morning PUMA world

Can someon explain to me why we are not promoting PumaPac.org as the best political blog in the universe?

62

VTcat 01.07.09 at 8:40 am

sue66: He apparently pled guilty in a deal that was supposed to include NO jail time, but then became fearful that the judge would send him to jail anyway and fled the country. The AP says he’s been “in exile” when in fact he was fugitive from justice. As a 44 year old man (not), he raped a 13 year old girl. There are fleabags out there that don’t see it as rape, but to me a 13 year old girl in incapable of giving consent, no matter the circumstances. I hope he rots in hell.

63

MamaPuma:

Do you mean for the weblog awards? I nominated 7 blogs and Puma Pac was one of them, and I saw Puma Pac get good votes, but we never officially campaigned here at Puma PAC–at all.

Now the finalists are all locked in so we can only promote the finalists.

But, you are right! Maybe we should make our own award. ;)

Oh and maybe we can also offer Pumablog Awards for best Non-Cheating Blog. So far, the confluence and uppity woman, et al are winning that category.

I am with you on that. I remember the case but was unaware of the “deal”. That judge needs a good swift kick for good measure as well. Most 13 year old’s can’t decide what to wear in the morning, no less consent to sex. I’m glad they at least raised the age of consent to 16 here, most places it is still 14.

73

Alice Rodham Puma 01.07.09 at 9:53 am

They sure will be, Kat. It is a very uncertainy future with gas, oil and energy. There is not enough of it to go around. That is yet another reason I admired Hillary Clinton and want she was saying about alternative energy and energy independence. She is the true visionary but unfortunately the bobots managed to cheat and steal the nomination and then the election. The pensioners here cannot afford the gas prices to keep their houses warm and have to get government handouts and I am sure that the Gas Companies are also making the most of the opportunities to keep putting the prices up.

Obama had the least amount of energy ideas of all candidates.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s staffers to speak at ethics lecture for state workers

—Steve Schmadeke
January 6, 2009

Only in Illinois?

As legislators weigh impeaching Gov. Rod Blagojevich and federal prosecutors prepare to indict him on corruption charges, his acting chief of staff and a deputy governor will be keynote speakers Wednesday at an “Ethics in the Workplace” seminar for some 200 state employees.

The governor’s acting chief of staff, Clayton Harris III, is new to his post; his predecessor, John Harris, was arrested the same day as the governor and resigned Dec. 12. Deputy Gov. Dean Martinez started his job a month ago.

But is it wrong for any members of the Blagojevich administration to instruct state workers on ethics?

A Takoma Park police officer yesterday shot a man who was holding a knife to the throat of a blood-soaked woman he had beaten with a religious cross, authorities said. A bullet passed through the man’s chest and struck the woman’s arm.

Neither the suspect nor the victim was critically injured. The suspect, who has been accused of domestic violence in the past, was taken into custody on attempted murder and other charges, police said.

sue66…. it might be difficult finding one newspaper that will cover the whole state. For example, Wisconsin isn’t that big of a state but even here you won’t find any one newspaper that everyone gets. While the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal http://www.jsonline.com/ might be the closest to fit that bill, I don’t know many in the Fox Cities who get it, nor in the Green Bay area… the Fox Cities has Appleton Post Crescent http://www.postcrescent.com/ , and Green Bay has the the Green Bay Post Gazette http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/ and I’m sure the western portion of the state has their own, such as Eau Claire….

Oh, and I will read that article now.

Yes, I learned in a women’s studies course that women married to men in the military/ police force/ law enforcement have a higher incidence of domestic violence. (I suppose the stress, the hours, and low down nature of these professions adds to already violent temperaments.)

Meanwhile, that’s only what is reported…one can imagine a woman being married to a cop and not wanting to call the cops on him…not only could it be perceived as a familial humiliation but the woman may also weigh the economic burden of husband losing job. I think the level of secrecy concerning domestic violence is different for these woman.

Awards
Is there no award for ethics?
A “most ethical blog” on the lines of Molly Ivins? You can define ethics on the basis of hate speech against various groups, demeaning language, images, ..
You know what I like even better, there is an organization called “transparency international” that rates countries for ethics, info is gathered from people who do business there, like NGO’s and indicates how much bribing you have to do to get something done in the country. the U.S. comes in around 16, the Scandinavian countries are higher. You could rate blogs like that too. have exact standards so blogs become more aware of the language they use. whether they get their sense of importance from ridiculing the powerless. whether they speak truth to power.

105

Nijma 01.07.09 at 11:43 am

I say Burris will be in. Seating him early will give an advantage to the Democrats, as he will have seniority over those who enter with the new incoming group that was just elected. It has been said here that the Illinois Sec of state doesn’t have to sign the gov’s appointment, that the senate can put him in without that.

Fitz term is expiring and I’m sure he wants to make himself useful to the incoming administration for job security, but the gov isn’t even indicted. He’s still the gov and the appointment was made publicly. He did it on teevee, after all. He has to appoint a senator or he isn’t doing his job as required by law. The Illinois legislature hasn’t exactly stepped up to the plate to find someone else.

The dems have a huge majority or they wouldn’t be quibbling about seating their own dems.

even my mother has never sent me cleaning advice.
there might be something to the vinegar thing though. Think of how the big corporations market all the cleaning stuff to women. Vinegar is so cheap, and it is an ingredient in window cleaning products that you pay a lot of money for to have repackaged as a window cleaning product. It’s an interesting thing to know, but I’m not going to get anal about it. there are plenty of guys around here, single dads and stuff, who buy their own cleaning supples too, so you can’t say it’s just a female thing. I hate it when women obsess over cleaning though, as if it’s the only thing in their lives they can have a conversation about.

Sorry this is long, but if interested, here is 60 uses of vinegar
1. Arthritis tonic and treatment; 2 spoonfuls of apple cider vinegar and honey in a
glass of water several times daily.
2. Thirst-quenching drink: apple cider vinegar mixed with cold water.
3. Sagging cane chairs: sponge them with a hot solution of half vinegar and half
water. Place the chairs out in the hot sun to dry.
4. Skin burns: apply ice cold vinegar right away for fast relief. Will prevent burn
blisters.
5. Add a spoonful of vinegar to cooking water to make cauliflower white and clean.
6. Storing cheese: keep it fresh longer by wrapping it in a vinegar-soaked cloth and
keeping it in a sealed container.
7. Remove stains from stainless steel and chrome with a vinegar-dampened cloth.
8. Rinse glasses and dishes in water and vinegar to remove spots and film.
9. Prevent grease build-up in your oven by frequently wiping it with vinegar.
10. Wipe jars of preserves and canned food with vinegar to prevent moldproducing
bacteria.
11. To eliminate mildew, dust and odors, wipe down walls with vinegar-soaked
cloth.
12. Clean windows with vinegar and water.
13. Hardened paint brushes: simmer in boiling vinegar and wash in hot soapy
water.
14. Clean breadbox and food containers with vinegar-dampened cloth to keep
fresh-smelling and clean.
15. Pour boiling vinegar down drains to unclog and clean them.
16. Clean fireplace bricks with undiluted vinegar.
17. An excellent all-purpose cleaner: vinegar mixed with salt. Cleans copper,
bronze, brass, dishes, pots, pans, skillets, glasses, windows. Rinse well.

I seem to remember my mom not using not much more than vinegar and baking soda to clean with. In these cost cutting times, could be interesting to know.

Burris will be seated, as he should be.

Watching Blago maneuver and Reid squirm and obama bumble has been rawther amusing, but they’re going to have to seat him. Not because he’s black — that’s just part of Blago’s cynical ploy, distasteful perhaps, but Rod “The Hair” Bloagojevich is not one to worry too much about taste I think — but because to NOT seat him would be a usurpation on the part of the legislative branch (congress) of executive branch (governor) powers. They have to seat Burris and let him face the voters in 2010.

——-
I enjoyed reading about your conversation with your Shaman and I see why you respect him so much.
I too think that being respected does not come out of anger and expecting to be respected. I think our society often replaces respect with being PC and gets us further from the truth.
I have often been upset at many of the comments about men on this blog. Sexism has become such a big focus but seeing men in general as all sexist dogs isn’t being honest. I, as a single mom have worked very hard to educate my son to respect women and he is very sensitive to the hurt of women and there are many men out there that deserve respect because they are kind and genuine.
Just like we don’t like to be lumped into the category of ‘angry old women’, let us not make the same generalization about men.

The same with weight. There is a difference in being obsessed with appearance– as the “fat is a feminist issue” thing talks about–I think it is from the 70’s.

But in those days, the role of heart attacks in women’s health was not well recognized–and i think it is the second leading cause of death in women.(?) Weight plays a role in heart attacks, strokes, and what about post menopausal fat? Fat cells manufacture hormones, and after menopause they kick into high gear. Where is the research on this? and where is the research on progesterone for hot flashes? this is something all women will need to know about at some point in their lives. But the culture is so tuned in to piling on women for getting old–after all, what is the utility of a woman who doesn’t look like a supermodel–that these basic women’s health issues end up on the obot point and laugh list.

OK, was on the phone with my dr twice, had to work on a couple applications for my support group, made dinner and cleaned up, and now will be off on business and pharmacy for the rest of the day, LOL. However, wanted to share this with you. I HOPE that Reid will “give in” like he did with Burris, but unfortunately, I think it’s doubtful. Even if Coleman manages to get a court to open it’s doggone eyes and SEE what the OBVIOUS is- that Franken STOLE this election- Reid won’t let him (Coleman) back into the senate:
http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/0109/Reid_Coleman_will_never_ever_serve.html
Reid: Coleman will “never ever serve”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered the toughest language he has ever used in arguing that Norm Coleman’s career in the Senate is finished.

“Norm Coleman will never ever serve [again] in the Senate,” Reid told Politico’s Manu Raju. “He lost the election. He can stall things, but he’ll never serve in the Senate.”

Al Franken was declared the winner today by the state’s Canvassing Board in the closely-contested Minnesota Senate race, defeating Sen. Norm Coleman by 225 votes. Coleman’s campaign has said it is contesting the result, preventing Franken from receiving an election certificate until all the legal challenges are resolved.

Reid added that he will not be trying to seat Franken in the Senate on Tuesday. When asked if Franken would be sworn in tomorrow, Reid said: “No.”

In his victory statement today, Franken said he was “ready to go to Washington and get to work just as soon as possible.” But a Franken campaign spokesman said he has not yet made plans to travel to Washington.

Senate Republican leadership has threatened to filibuster any attempt to seat Franken before his victory is officially certified.

sue66, I am thinking about an earlier essay with the same title. I hope that in rejecting media’s unhealthy images of women as chattel, we do not throw out the baby with the bathwater and forget about health. Women do have heart attacks. It’s not necessarily a matter of looking like something on the outside, but what your arteries look like on the inside.

“(Susan’s Note: It’s important to read Uppity Woman’s story below. The far left is ganging up on every blog that does not “toe the line” for Obamabots. They don’t notice that we’ve posted stories praising some of Obama’s appointments (see also “Inspired Choices for DNI and CIA?” by Larry Johnson), and our economic expert LD posted a report approving of Obama’s latest economic plan. But the rigid left can’t see that we have flexible minds and simply wish the best for our nation. Why? Because WE ARE PATRIOTS. We CARE about our country. FIRST, and forever. Vote for us, every day. And for Uppity Woman, also a NQ writer. Blogs like NoQuarter and Uppity Woman are “endangered species”; we are among the few blogs left that haven’t been bought by special interests, politicians, or the media. We eschew “group think.” These days, most blogs are indentured servants. Now, Uppity’s report on the insidious efforts by the left.)”

I agree. Burris needs to be seated. Blago is still our Gov. He has not been impeached or found guilty…yet. Legally, he needs to fill the seat, not sell the seat. I think he has done that with the Burris appointment. Illinois needs representation from 2 working Senators. We effectively haven’t had 2 cause Obama has been too busy campaigning. I called his office during the bank bailout fiasco and his mailbox was full. No one even answering the phones.

Nijma 01.07.09 at 1:54 pm

Oh, I just finished a little excursion of a few obot groupthink sites, and they’re still miffed about some of the pumas voting for McCain. I notice they don’t list all the wonderful things Teh Messiah has done for women..like…like..oh, it will come to me in a minute. The biggest thing they can think about to complain about McCain is that he had a female running mate. They don’t mention how such a large percentage of his own senate staff is female, and that unlike Obama, McCain actually pays his female staff the same as the male staff for doing the same jobs. And they forget McCain’s pledge to put women in cabinet positions. What is Teh Messiah’s record on that so far? The obots are strangely silent on that one. No guts at all, except when it comes to ridiculing the sick and the weak.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women – responsible for more deaths in women than all forms of cancers combined. Where are the PSAs telling women about the different symptoms they wilL experience so they can save their lives by getting to the hospital in time? Perhaps Oprah could include that information in her new “platform.”

According to the American Cancer Society, among the cancers, lung cancer and breast cancer are the leading cause of cancer deaths in women. They say lung cancer primarily due to smoking, but I know many of mother’s friends who have died of lung cancer and never smoked nor did their spouses or family members. However, they had immaculate houses and constantly cleaned…so my theory is that they breathed in all of those cleaning products and that is why I use vinegar for cleaning.

As far as breast cancer, I read that having a family history of breast cancer is not considered that much anymore since so many women are getting it without a family history. So, is there any connection between breast cancer and hormones (long use of birth control pills, hormones in milk and some meats, premarin menopausal meds)? Some breast cancer sites say there are. There should be more research on this, but then it may cripple some drug companies – read sarcasm.

I found this the other day…..

Hormone Replacement Therapy and Breast Cancer Relapse
Key Words
Breast cancer, hormone replacement therapy. (Definitions of many terms related to cancer can be found in the Cancer.gov Dictionary.)
Summary
Breast cancer survivors who took hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to relieve menopausal symptoms had more than three times as many breast cancer recurrences as survivors who did not take HRT, a new study from Sweden has found. The study – which was stopped ahead of schedule because of these findings – was the first randomized clinical trial to examine the effect of HRT in women with breast cancer.

146

michelle47 01.07.09 at 2:18 pm

Hey mountainsong! How is it going?

147

mountainsong 01.07.09 at 2:27 pm

I have a real concern about horones. When I was in my late 30’s I read an article about Elizabeth Taylor and Joan Collins. Bit opted to undergo HRT as a means of staving off menopause and remaining youthful” So, I visited my doctor, in Seattle at the time, and started off.
I have taken ‘hormones’ for the last 28 years. For a long time I used injections, then switched to Premarin, until I read how Premarin is produced about 10 years ago, when I switched to Estradiol.
I maintain, and actually thrive on a dose that is at leat 5 times higher than what is normally prescribed to a ‘normal’ menopausing female. So, yes, I have concerns, but I also have my blood monitored 3-4 times a year to gauge the effects on my organs.
I used to refer to hot flashes as ” intense tropical vacations of short duration”.
But, it works for me.
Both Elizabeth and Joan put off menopause until they were 65 and remained quite youthful until then.
As I’ve said, I live in a complex for seniors and I get lots of comments about my ‘youthful appearance’. I don’t tell them my secret, in addition to clean diet and tons of exercise, about Estradiol.

148

Nijma 01.07.09 at 2:28 pm

Scarlett, yes, women’s heart attack symptoms are not the classic ones associated with male heart attacks. Who indeed is getting the word out?
The hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopausal symptoms and osteoporosis as been totally dropped by the mainstream medical establishment, but it looks like on very small amount of research that was not statically significant. What does that mean for bone health? Would different results be seen with different dosages or different hormone combinations? And breast tumors have different characteristics. some have estrogen receptors and some don’t. Did they control the study for the type of estrogen receptors found when the tumor was biopsied?

We need more women in medicine and in decision-making positions. When that happens there will be more research into women’s health problems. Women will be on the committees that control the research topics and women will be the actual researchers. Can you imagine a world where there is as much research into hot flashes as there is into breast augmentation? One of my relatives has been having hot flashes for ten years–can you imagine having your sleep disrupted for that long?

And what is Teh One’s solution? Just keep playing “I’ve got 99 problems and a b*tch ain’t one”, and “hey, let’s invite this Ludicris fellow to the inauguration”.

Nijma 01.07.09 at 2:28 pm I so totally agree. For the longest time, i felt like I was getting inadequate attention from the male doctors I was seeing. I experienced alot of sexist bullshit from them. Finally, it occured to me that female doctors just might know a thing or two more about being female that the men. So I switched about 12 years ago.

I still believe that the high incidence of heart attack and heart disease in women is directly attributable to poor diet and sedentary lifestyle.
I mean, I am thriving and lovin it.

Is there any chance that you could get some of these people to stop live updating us from obot sites? I don’t know about them, but my universe doesn’t revolve around obots, nor do I care one iota about what they’re doing, saying, or thinking. They are non-beings to me. And, if I did care at all, I would go to their sites myself, instead of blog clogging this site with their bullshit.
By the way, it’s always the same one(s), who does this. Bety, you’ll never see her doing this same othing on her own site. Interesting, that.

I have come out of lurk mode…It is good to see you also mountainsong!

I am still a staunch Obama NONFAN! My youngest daughter is a junior in high school and attends a private, catholic school that costs a whole lot of money. She informed me that on inauguration day all the girls ( strictly an all girls academy ) were asked to bring a bagged lunch so that they could have lunch with the new president, needless to say I am beyond pissed off! There was no offer of an alternative for those girls that may not be interested in the swearing in of the new messiah. I am not letting this slide, if an alternative is not offered, my daughter will be missing school on the 20th.

I cast my votes for today, and what ever your opinion is of Glenn Beck ( I like him) this is a snippet of a funny article from him:

January 07, 2009

On The Grind by Stephen J. Cannell

On Today’s Program

Why is Oprah fat again?

For all of you who don’t have wives that force you to watch Oprah—she’s fat again. She’s struggled with her weight publicly over the years and she’s coming out now to announce that she is indeed back on the fat train. She’s added about 40 lbs (roughly 91 Quarter Pounders with Cheese) to her frame, but that’s not the stat that is most concerning. Glenn conducts a Freak Jury to find out why she gained the weight—was it because money doesn’t buy happiness? OR was it because she wants to make more money? Glenn explains. Read the transcript. Insiders listen to the audio here.

162

Nijma 01.07.09 at 3:17 pm

Dances, you can say sh** and da** to me all you want, but I do believe the 19 million who voted for Hillary did so because the Obama campaign ignored the valid interests of women everywhere and not because they were raaaaaacist. McCain campaign made special effort to identify and respond to women’s interests–like paying his staff equally and not based on whether they had penises–and hiring women for his own staff. It is a standard that the *liberal* blogs need to have held up to them again and again and again. The Obama record on women is shameful and it cost him votes. It will continue to cost him votes when he runs for reelection. If you can think of a more succinct way to put it to the many new guests that are being accommodated here as a result of the bandwidth increase, do put it out there, because American needs what every Puma has to offer.

163

danzig 01.07.09 at 4:11 pm

McCain may have pandered to women but he ignored the progressive agenda. Any so called liberal democrat who voted for McCain was trying to cut off their nose in spite of their face….and “Regan” Democrat is just code for racist white person who is normally at least smart enough to vote against their economic interest unless the candidate is black.

164

Nijma 01.07.09 at 4:38 pm

What progressive agenda danzig? FISA??! Reproductive rights? Separation of church and state? The working class? Obama upheld NONE of the traditional progressive values. He was Bush Lite. And Obama invoked Reagan in more speeches than McCain ever did–Reagan was practically his patron saint. Hey that means Obama must be…..raaaaacist!!!!

165

Nijma 01.07.09 at 4:40 pm

And since when does the “progressive agenda” exclude 51% of the American population? The woman haters are not progressives, they are just haters.
